With their dynamic and captivating music, with lyrics sung in Swedish, and looking like they have recently arrived from a fantasy world, they have taken enthusiasts of both metal and folk music by storm. Grimner’s lyrics revolve around Norse mythology, folklore, historical adventures of Vikings and life in the same era. With some songs dark and brooding; others fast, jovial and folkish, Grimner’s music is as awesome as it is entertaining.

IRON MAIDEN's BRUCE DICKINSON: Fans Need 'To Be Educated About The Fact That Music Has Real Value'

IRON MAIDEN's BRUCE DICKINSON: Fans Need 'To Be Educated About The Fact That Music Has Real Value'

Ornella Carlone of Comebackstage conducted an interview with IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson about his recently released autobiography, "What Does This Button Do?" You can now watch the chat below.

Speaking about the obstacles up-and-coming artists are facing in trying to make it in the music business, Bruce said: "They have a tough job, actually, because digital downloading… well, not digital downloading now in itself, but the result of Napster and things like that, even though downloading is now kind of mainstream, Napster destroyed the concept of music having any value, which is terrible. I think the guy [who started Napster] should be locked up, and maybe he has been — he deserves to be. It was an act of pure selfish destruction. And what he did was he used the enthusiasm of the audience… Because the audience is not guilty — they could get all this great music for free. Why wouldn't they do that? They didn't realize that what they were doing was destroying an entire culture.

"For a band like us, actually we still make records, but we pretty much accept that we don't really make hardly any money out of making a record," he continued. "We still do it because we have to, because we love it and we have to do new music. But the great thing with us is we can tour and make money [by playing] live. Other bands, bands who are coming up doing great music, they don't get that luxury. And it's hard to see where a whole generation of musicians is gonna come from now. People who are brilliant musicians don't get paid for doing amazing jobs.

"I get paid when they sell a [copy of my] book. The difference is, I took two and a half months to write this book, and I get paid a royalty, and, actually, it's very reasonable, it's very fair. If this book was a record and I took two and a half months to make it, I would have to give it away, because people will pay for a book, but they won't pay for an album. That is really sad and it's wrong. Now, I don't know where we're gonna get to in the future. It's possible that the digital downloading world will start to charge a little bit more money and artists will get paid a little bit more.

"When you consider that most people, when they sit down and listen to an album, they might drink a pint of beer or have a can of an energy drink or something else like that. So they'll pay the price of a can of energy drink, but they won't pay the price for the album. And it's sad.

"I think everybody needs to be educated about the fact that music has real value and musicians have real value; they spent years working on their craft to entertain people."

Last November, "What Does This Button Do?" landed at No. 10 on the New York Times "Hardcover Nonfiction" best sellers list. It was released in the U.S. on October 31 via Dey Street Books (formerly It Books), an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.

Bruce has said in interviews that he wrote his autobiography by hand in a notebook while sitting in his local bar.

ANTHRAX's SCOTT IAN 'Understands' Why SLAYER Is Calling It Quits

ANTHRAX's SCOTT IAN 'Understands' Why SLAYER Is Calling It Quits

ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian says that he understands why the members of SLAYER have decided to call it quits.

Last week, SLAYER, one of metal's most popular and influential bands of the past four decades, announced its "final world tour" via a 30-second video. The group also confirmed that its last-ever North American run of dates would feature support from LAMB OF GOD, ANTHRAX, BEHEMOTH and TESTAMENT.

In an interview with Meltdown of Detroit's WRIF radio station, Ian was asked how felt about SLAYER pulling the plug on an impressive three-and-a-half-decade career.

"We've obviously been friends for a very long time, and even in the last seven or eight years, we've played quite a few shows together — a couple of major tours in the States and Europe," Ian said (hear audio below). "So when we got the call a couple of months ago asking if we'd like to be a part of this… At the time, when I first heard about it from our agent, there was no inkling that this was going to be some type of goodbye tour; it was just, like, 'Do you wanna be part of this sick metal package with SLAYER and LAMB OF GOD and BEHEMOTH and TESTAMENT?' And I was, like, 'Yeah.' I got excited. I'm always excited about touring, but that e-mail comes in, and I got excited like a kid, like, 'I can't wait to get tickets for this.' 'Cause that hasn't happened in a while. The Mayhem tour's been gone now for a couple of years, so there hasn't been a major summer metal tour in a long time, and this obviously fills that void in a big way. And I got really excited."

According to Ian, he was unaware that the upcoming tour would mark SLAYER's final run "until the day they publicly announced" it. "I saw that just like everyone else out there, that this was the beginning of the end," he said. "And I was, like, 'Wow!' I had no idea. I mean, I've known… Obviously I'm friends with the guys and I know from speaking to them that this day was going to come and their schedule had slowed down as compared to what it had used to be. But I didn't know it was happening now. My only hope is that their goodbye tour will take about three or four years to finish. My hope, as a fan of SLAYER, that they really, really pound it into the ground because there's a lot of people that are gonna wanna see 'em a couple of times before it's over, probably."

Scott said that he "gets" why SLAYER would want to end its touring career five years after the band's co-founding guitarist, Jeff Hanneman, died from alcohol-related cirrhosis of the liver. Hanneman is credited for writing many of SLAYER's classic songs, including "Angel Of Death" and "South Of Heaven". "I understand," Ian said. "I've been around those guys long enough; I get it. And look, obviously, losing Jeff a couple of years ago, that's something that… as great as it's been, and [Hanneman's replacement] Gary's [Holt] a motherfucker on guitar and there's nobody else that could have filled that role better than Gary Holt, but still, they lost Jeff, and I understand how, after that, certainly for Tom [Araya, bass/vocals] and Kerry [King, guitar], nothing will ever be the same. I can understand that they were able to come to what was obviously a very tough decision to say, 'All right. Let's put an ending on this.' And you know what? All the best things have a great ending, whether it's a book, a movie, a TV series. If you don't stick the ending, it's almost like what was the point in the first place? And I like the way they're doing this and I really think they're gonna go out in a big way and really stick the ending."

Ian believes that SLAYER is making the right decision by going out on top and not just hanging around way past its expiration date. "It's the way you've gotta do it — especially being in a band," Scott said. "People ask me all the time, 'How long can you do this for?' and I'm, like, 'I can do it for as long as I feel like I'm giving everything I have every night.' The last thing I want is being on stage and not being able to perfom at what I consider to be my level of performance, let's say. I never wanna be on stage and someone in the audience can look at me and say, 'Oh, man. He's phoning it in,' or, 'He doesn't even move around anymore.' I would hate to ever disappoint anyone in that way. Playing live for me, being on a stage is that sacred ground, man. That's such a privilege to be there in front of an audience, and for me, if I can't give what I feel like I need to give, then I shouldn't do it anymore."

SLAYER will kick off the first leg of its farewell world tour with a May 10 concert at San Diego's Valley View Casino Center, with dates running through June 20 at Austin's 360 Amphitheatre.

ANTHRAX will release its long-awaited live-in-concert DVD, "Kings Among Scotland", on April 27 via Megaforce. The DVD is preceded by ANTHRAX's North American co-headline tour with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE — "KillThrax 2018" — which kicked off January 25 in Montreal.

MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE Would Love To Play 'Big Four' Show Where All Bands 'Got Treated Fairly'

MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE Would Love To Play 'Big Four' Show Where All Bands 'Got Treated Fairly'

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine says that he would love play a "Big Four" show where all the bands "got treated fairly" instead of METALLICA performing a longer set and getting more stage space than the other groups on the bill.

The so-called "Big Four" of 1980s thrash metal — METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX — played together for the first time in history on June 16, 2010 in front of 81,000 fans at the Sonisphere festival at Bemowo Airport in Warsaw, Poland and shared a bill again for six more shows as part of the Sonisphere series that same year. They reunited again for several dates in 2011, including the last "Big Four" concert, which was held on September 14, 2011 at Yankee Stadium in New York City. Since then, METALLICA, SLAYER and ANTHRAX have played a number of shows together, including the 2013 Soundwave festival in Australia. They also performed at the 2014 Heavy MTL festival in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

During a brand new interview with SiriusXM's Eddie Trunk, Mustaine was asked if MEGADETH and the other bands would be interested in playing more "Big Four" shows before SLAYER finally pulls the plug on its touring career.

"I think if you asked the three of us [MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX] that our camps would probably say yes," he responded (hear audio below). "If ANTHRAX, SLAYER and MEGADETH all wanna do it, and METALLICA doesn't, then what do we do? The 'Big Three'? I'm sure that a lot of people would like to see that, and that may be what it is. You know, you may end up having it be the 'Big Three' plus No. 5, if we have EXODUS play with it.

"But it's not about just doing concerts for the sake of concerts — it was about the movement, it was about what we did together as a group," Mustaine continued. "And excluding ANTHRAX, we were all like neighbors almost, 'cause we all lived so close; it was just a half hour to an hour at the most between each other's houses on the freeway.

"So I think it would be great to do more 'Big Four' stuff. [We could] do one in Japan, do one in South America — we never did one in South America, we haven't done one in Asia. Give the people an opportunity to see it before it goes away forever."

Asked by Trunk if there was a highlight moment for him at any of the previous "Big Four" shows that made the experience "extra special," Mustaine said: "Not really. They all had significance to it. I think that the playing at the end was fun too. But I think it always kind of soured to me when you watch [METALLICA guitarist] Kirk Hammett say on the DVD ['The Big Four: Live From Sofia, Bulgaria'], when they're praying, and he says that 'we're the Big One.' That just kind of shows you how the mentality was there — that it really wasn't the 'Big Four'; it was METALLICA and then the three of us."

Mustaine added: "I would love to see it done in a way where we all got treated fairly and we all played together, same amount of time, same kind of stage situation, but I don't think that's gonna happen. And it's cool, because SLAYER's gonna down in history, and they don't need the 'Big Four' to make them any more legendary than they already are. Nor do I."

SLAYER announced last week that it will embark on one "final" world tour before calling it quits as a touring act.

Hammett said last year that he believed that the "Big Four" idea would be revisited again. He explained: "I see those shows as kind of like a celebration — a real celebration of each other, and a real celebration of the music that we all make, and a real celebration of the audience embracing [what] we've done. And why not have more of that?"

Five years ago, SLAYER frontman Tom Araya said that the only thing that was standing in the way of further "Big Four" shows was "the politics of character in one particular band," with some fans speculating that he was talking about Mustaine and MEGADETH.

In his autobiography, "Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir", Mustaine addressed the issue of where his band fit in the "Big Four" order. According to The New York Times, he assured the reader that he was not offended by being put behind SLAYER. But he added an interior monologue: "O.K., we'll play ahead of you guys on this trip, and God willing we'll do it again sometime in the near future and we can flip things around."

Mustaine was a member of METALLICA for less than two years, from 1981 to 1983, before being dismissed and replaced by Kirk Hammett. He went on to form MEGADETH and achieve worldwide success on his own.

Mustaine feuded with the members of METALLICA for more than two decades before finally patching things up over the last few years. He has jammed with his ex-bandmates on several occasions during "Big Four" shows and at METALLICA's 30th-anniversary concerts in 2011.

METALLICA Manager Explains How Band Tripled Ticket Prices

METALLICA Manager Explains How Band Tripled Ticket Prices

According to The Pulse Of Radio, METALLICA co-manager Peter Mensch has explained in a new BBC documentary series how the band was able to triple ticket prices over the last few years without upsetting fans. Speaking on the second episode of the show, titled "Hits, Hype & Hustle: An Insider's Guide to the Music Business", Mensch recalled that the arrival of Napster and other file-sharing services impacted record sales dramatically and forced musicians to hit the road to make money.

Mensch explained: "Demand went through the roof and ticket prices soon followed. We hadn't made a record in years. This is just what we do — we play in front of our fans. Rock bands have always had to bring it to the fans. We did some tests in the last couple of years. We realized the top price for a METALLICA ticket could be much higher than it used to be, and we charged it — and there was no audience pushback on it... The ticket price thing has changed everything."

Mensch told Music Week last month about the success of METALLICA's latest LP, "Hardwired...To Self-Destruct", and last summer's sold-out North American stadium tour: "They hadn't put out a record in eight years, it was quality music and then they went and played a bunch of quality shows... in America where they just completed an absolutely sold-out stadium tour, they hadn't played in eight years."

METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo told The Pulse Of Radio not long ago that the band felt like it had to prove itself all over again to American audiences. "It feels like there's a new beginning, and in a way we're challenged 'cause we're winning people over with new music and new production, you know, new show," he said. "You know, we're blessed and we understand that and we work hard to hopefully provide the best concert experience we can."

METALLICA's "WorldWired" trek was the fifth-highest grossing tour of 2017, with 1.5 million tickets sold and $153 million earned. The band was also the top-selling rock act of the year and had the third best-selling rock album.

METALLICA will resume touring next month with a new round of European dates.

CORELEONI Feat. GOTTHARD Guitarist, RAINBOW Singer: 'Walk On Water' Performance Video

CORELEONI Feat. GOTTHARD Guitarist, RAINBOW Singer: 'Walk On Water' Performance Video

A performance video of the song "Walk On Water" from CORELEONI, the new project founded by GOTTHARD guitarist Leo Leoni to pay a very personal tribute to his rock and roll past, can be seen below. The track is taken from CORELEONI's debut album, "The Greatest Hits - Part 1", which will be released on February 23 via Frontiers Music Srl.

Leo Leoni is joined in CORELEONI by Ronnie Romero (LORDS OF BLACK, RAINBOW) on vocals, Hena Habegger on drums, Jgor Gianola on guitar and Mila Merker on bass.

Says Leo: "On the 25th anniversary of the release of the first GOTTHARD album, I wanted to pay tribute to songs like 'Downtown', 'Firedance', 'Higher', 'Here Comes The Heat', 'In The Name', 'Ride On…', 'Let It Be' and 'All I Care 4'. Songs that with GOTTHARD we have kind of left aside. We've re-recorded, refreshed, and 're-brushed' them in a respectful way. These songs are very dear to me and they are part of a period that will remain forever with me."

Leoni dusted these songs off and brough a new life to these overlooked masterpieces from his past.

"Walk On Water" is the sole new track featured on "The Greatest Hits - Part 1".

"This CORELEONI project made me feel so many emotions and memories, filling my heart with joy," says Leo. "I hope hearing these new versions gives all the GOTTHARD fans, especially the ones who knew and loved the band in the early days, the same great emotions that it has brought to me."

BELPHEGOR Releases 'Baphomet' Performance Video

BELPHEGOR Releases 'Baphomet' Performance Video

European diabolical death/black metal kings BELPHEGOR have released a performance video for the song "Baphomet". The clip was shot last December at the Saving Christmass festival in Nörrköping, Sweden by the band's friend and Norwegian shaman Espen Dyngen.

"Baphomet" is taken from BELPHEGOR's latest album, "Totenritual", which was released last September via Nuclear Blast. The disc was recorded at Stage One Studios in Germany and Studio Mischmaschine in Austria and was mixed by Jason Suecof and mastered by Mark Lewis at Audiohammer Studios in Florida. The artwork was once again created by Greek artist Seth Siro Anton, who also painted the cover artwork for 2006's "Pestokalypse VI" and 2014's "Conjuring The Dead".

BELPHEGOR singer, guitarist and founder Helmuth Lehner stated about "Totenritual": "It is the most brutally heavy offering we have consecrated thus far. The drums are precise and very technical with loads of breaks, fills and tempo changes. The bass is like a panzer tank. Also, the rhythm guitars are utterly aggressive and obscure. You don't hear guitars like that anywhere with such a massively low tuning."

HAMMERFALL To Enter Studio In Early 2019

HAMMERFALL To Enter Studio In Early 2019

Swedish metallers HAMMERFALL will spend most of this year working on music for the follow-up to 2016's "Built To Last" album. "We're gonna probably start recording early next year, so there's some time to write new material," bassist Fredrik Larsson told Heavy New York at this past weekend's NAMM show in Anaheim, California (see video below). "And we're gonna do some festivals this summer after the full U.S. tour."

Larsson and HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak also talked about their upcoming North American tour with FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, which will kick off May 17 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and criss-cross the continent before concluding on June 19 in San Antonio, Texas.

"That's basically the most important thing that we do [this year]," Oscar said. "First of all, it's the next thing we do, 'cause we have nothing planned until mid-May. But also because it's the only big tour that we have still left for this year. We were gonna do maybe a week or two in Europe; we haven't decided yet. We'll see what happens with that. But no big touring anymore this year. So that's gonna be the next big thing for us, so we're really looking forward to it." Fredrik added: "Especially since the last tour here in North America was fantastic. We had a great response, and we did a co-headline with DELAIN, and it was fantastic."

"Built To Last" was released in November 2016 via Napalm Records.

Drummer David Wallin left HAMMERFALL two years ago in order to focus on his family life. He has since been replaced by Johan Koleberg, formerly of THERION and LION'S SHARE.

Listen To New DEATHWHITE Song 'Contrition'

"Contrition", a new song from enigmatic dark metal outfit DEATHWHITE, can be streamed below. The track is taken from the band's upcoming full-length album, "For A Black Tomorrow", which will be released February 23 via Season Of Mist.

"For A Black Tomorrow" was produced and engineered by Shane Mayer of Cerebral Audio Productions.

Pre-orders for the album are available now at the Season Of Mist e-shop.

"For A Black Tomorrow" track listing:

01. The Grace Of The Dark
02. Contrition
03. Poisoned
04. Just Remember
05. Eden
06. Dreaming The Inverse
07. Death And The Master
08. Prison Of Thought
09. For A Black Tomorrow

Formed in 2012, DEATHWHITE was created, in part, to follow in the path created by dark metal torchbearers such as KATATONIA, MY DYING BRIDE, PARADISE LOST and ANATHEMA. The band's earliest work gave rise to their impactful blend of heavy, melodic and deeply emotional metal.

DEATHWHITE's profile grew significantly with the 2015 release of their "Solitary Martyr" EP, which was hailed by critics as "...spun gold, thick with emotion..." and "wonderfully engrossing."

The official music video for the song "Dreaming The Inverse" can be seen below. The clip was directed by David Brodsky of MyGoodEye.

Comments the band: "Our first video foray, 'Dreaming the Inverse', details a man's inability to forgive and his resultant descent into madness after receiving similar treatment from his scorned significant other. While the song itself could be applied to a variety of situations, in this instance, we felt it was necessary to visualize the oftentimes complex dynamic between two people who have effectively wronged each other. We feel the video accomplishes this in more ways than one. Beyond that, we are indebted to director David Brodsky and his team, the video's actors and everyone else who helped make this a reality."

Sweden's BLACK ROSE Join Sliptrick Records Roster

Joining the ranks at Sliptrick Records this week: Swedish melodic hard rock/metal band, Black Rose.

Black Rose was originally formed in 1990 in Fagersta, Sweden. Their debut album Fortune Favours The Brave was released in 1993 and this once followed by lots of gigs in Sweden and the release of a couple of mini-cds and demos during the following years. A spurt of recording in the early 2000’s, culminated with the release of two albums in short succession. 2002 saw the release of their self-titled album and a follow up CD, entitled Explode, was released in 2004. After another period of time, Black Rose released their last album, Turn On The Night, in 2013. The Black Rose style of music has always stayed strong and constant, even though different music-trends have come and gone since the band began.

Throughout the bands existence, they have continually gigged around Sweden and Europe. They have also played support to bands such as Fate, The Poodles, Pain Of Salvation, Nocturnal Rites and Soul Sign (Yngwie-members). In August 2015, a new member joined the band, the powerhouse vocalist Jakob ”Jacke” Sandberg and this finalized the current Black Rose lineup. The group are now putting the finishes touches to their brand new album, A Light In The Dark, to be released worldwide via Sliptrick Records later in the year.

PUREST OF PAIN Featuring DELAIN Members Streaming New Song "Terra Nil"; Solipsis Album Due In March

PUREST OF PAIN Featuring DELAIN Members Streaming New Song "Terra Nil"; Solipsis Album Due In March

Dutch melodic death metal band Purest Of Pain announce the release of their debut album, Solipsis on March 1st to follow their 2013 single "Momentum" and 2011 EP Revelations In Obscurity.

Lead by guitarist and main songwriter Merel Bechtold of Delain, whom also performs in much respected bands MaYaN and The Gentle Storm/Anneke van Giersbergen, the energetic quintet from Holland, which now includes Delain drummer Joey de Boer is a force to be reckoned with. Combining Scandanavian metal influences with groove, ambiance, tone and melody, the band has unleashed their first single "Terra Nil". Listen to the track below.

Seven years in the making, from the writing process up to the final mastering to launching a successful online crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo (raising over 18,000 Euros, thank you video here), along with increasing their funds through live performances, which saw them open for such bands as Opeth, Textures, Suicide Silence, Unearth and Attack Attack! plus an unforgettable slot at Wacken in 2014. Solipsis is 14 tracks of brutality blended with groove and emotion produced by Merel Bechtold with recording done at Mantis Audio Studio (Delain) and mastering by Jens Jorgen (Opeth, Arch Enemy, Soilwork).

Guitarist Merel Bechtold comments: "Solipsis is a guitar oriented record, is has been recorded as organic as possible: partly at home, partly at Mantis Audio Studio. The song ‘E.M.D.R.’ is written by fellow guitarist Michael van Eck. All the other songs were summoned by myself. The lyrics are written by vocalist J.D. Kaye. And even though the music isat times technical and challenging, it's undeniably driven by relentless groove, enhanced by hugely melodic passages, wonderful tone and moments of ambient clarity."

Solipsis will be available on CD, Vinyl plus as a digital release and is available for pre-order here. Their single "Terra Nil" is available for download and stream on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Spotify, Deezer.

Canada's GATEKEEPER Joins Cruz Del Sur Music; East Of Sun Album Due In April

Canada's GATEKEEPER Joins Cruz Del Sur Music; East Of Sun Album Due In April

Cruz Del Sur Music has announced the signing of Canadian epic metal force, Gatekeeper. The band's first full-length, East Of Sun, will be released this April worldwide on compact disc (including two bonus songs), vinyl and digital formats.

Originally formed in 2009 as a solo project by guitarist Geoff Blackwell, Gatekeeper has assembled an impressive array of EPs and splits, including an appearance on Metal Blade's Metal Massacre XIV where they contributed the song "Bell Of Tarantia". Their signing to Cruz Del Sur will mark a new, exciting era for the band.

Comments Blackwell: "Cruz Del Sur has been a bastion for great heavy metal for a long time and it's a pleasure to be included alongside a host of bands that have been influences on our music and bands that we consider our contemporaries. Above all, Enrico [Leccese] has been extremely fair and willing to work with us so that we can present the album the way we've envisioned."

Recorded over the span of six months at Harbourside Studios in Vancouver, Canada, East Of Sun was produced by Mike Rogerson, whose previous credits include Annihilator, Aggression, 88 Mile Trip and Loverboy, with additional production assistance provided by Angelo Boose, who, according to Black "stayed up through many all-night recording sessions with us."

The East Of Sun title is a shortened version of a book of Scandinavian folk tales that parallels the content on the record where each song stands on its own. The album's cover art was created by Duncan Storr, who has previously worked with Skyclad, Rage and Cruz Del Sur's own Dark Forest.

East Of Sun boasts a mixture of older, unreleased material written by Blackwell which are complemented by live staples that have recently been updated. "It's pure heavy metal with a sword and sorcery flourish," says Blackwell. "We wear our influences on our sleeves, but we don't want to be a pale imitation of them. We try to capture the spirit of what we love without copying anyone's' notes. This album has our fastest song and it's got our biggest, most epic slow-burner and many songs in between. It has melodic electric guitar playing coupled with fierce riffs, thunderous rhythms, mystical acoustic passages and, of course, a unique and varied performance from our singer, Jean-Pierre. And these things are just the start."

Gatekeeper's immediate plans include assembling live dates near their Vancouver home base and on the west coast of Canada. Currently, they are scheduled to play the Northwest Metal Fest in Seattle this March alongside Q5, Heir Apparent, Glacier, Wild Dogs, Skelator, Substratum And Riot City. Aside from that, Blackwell says Gatekeeper has its sights set on even bigger territories, namely Europe:

"With Cruz Del Sur on our side, I think it's just a matter of time before we cross into European soil, so beware!"

Gatekeeper is:

Jean-Pierre Abboud - Lead Vocals, Chorus
Geoff Blackwell - Rhythm/Lead Guitar, chorus
Kenny Kroecher - Lead/Rhythm Guitar
David Messier, Bass guitar, chorus
Tommy Tro - Battery

Former Suffocation guitarist Guy Marchais - who played on the albums Souls To Deny (2004), Suffocation (2006), Blood Oath (2009) and Pinnacle Of Bedlam (2013) - has been diagnosed with cancer. Emily Parks has launched a GoFundMe page for Marchais, "Fighting For Guy", hoping to raise $100,00. Current donations total $6,488.

A fundraiser description states: "On January 19th, 2018, we found out that Guy Marchais was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is a blood cancer effecting the body’s immune system and lymph nodes. This comes just 80 days after his niece was diagnosed with the same exact thing. Although not genetic, lighting struck twice in our family. I’m calling to everyone to donate what you can. Even with health insurance, bills are piling up in the thousands. There are many more tests to be done before starting his treatment plan on February 5th, which includes chemo and possibly radiation. Our family is struggling and could really use your help."

Says Guy: "I would like to thank everybody for their donations. This means so much to me and will be a huge help. I appreciate and love each and everyone of you very much, thank you."

ANDREW W.K. Releases Music Video For 'Ever Again'

ANDREW W.K. Releases Music Video For 'Ever Again'

Andrew W.K. continues his quest to reach "pure party euphoria" with the release of "Ever Again", the second single from his upcoming album, "You're Not Alone" (due out March 2 via RED Music/Sony Music). The new track debuted this morning as Zane Lowe's "World Record" on Beats 1/Apple Music. In a surprise twist, Zane himself requested that Andrew take over the entire broadcast as Zane's first-ever guest host. The official music video for "Ever Again" premiered at Noisey, which said: "Andrew W.K.'s 'Ever Again' video will literally save your soul… please listen to this song and watch the video and just try to feel cynical."

Andrew describes the song as: "A fantasy in which I imagine what it would be like to actually know the meaning of life — an ecstatic nightmare in which I've returned from the brink of annihilation, having clawed the Ultimate Insight from out of its hiding spot, and am finally able to solve the riddle of existence while I cry out in triumphant elation. The desire to possess this total internalized clarity — not only knowing what life really means, but actually feeling the Truth from the inside out — is a mirage for the mind, but a reality for the heart. But coming from a place of confusion and despair, perhaps simply having faith in the possibility of 'the answer to everything' is enough to see us through those frequent moments of painful disorientation. I'm not singing from the perspective of someone who has found this ultimate answer to everything, but as someone who's dreaming about how incredible it would feel if I had. And in a mysterious and strangely uplifting way, it seems that a belief in the possibility of an absolute Truth gives us access to something quintessential and crucial for our own survival — it connects us with a part of ourselves that's both primal and divine — an empowering, enlightening, and energizing force of unyielding and overwhelming feeling. A feeling that transcends emotion. A feeling that overwhelms all thought and language. A feeling that can't be understood, but can only be deeply and joyously experienced. And thus, celebrated in worshipful glee. Partying is born."

Andrew is asking for fans to listen responsibly to his new single so there isn't another incident like Luke Mitchell's now-infamous speeding ticket party last week. Luke was driving while listening to "You're Not Alone"'s debut single, "Music Is Worth Living For" on the U.K.'s BBC Radio 1 when he found himself overtaken by pure party propulsion and began to accelerate far past the legal speed limit. To his dismay, he was pulled over by a police officer and given a ticket, which Andrew caught wind of and promptly offered to pay. Andrew explained that he felt responsible for the "sonic party power" which compelled Luke to drive too fast.

Andrew will will be taking his party on the road (while obeying all traffic laws), in celebration of his new "You're Not Alone" album, and announces a string of new tour dates. Performances begin at the South By Southwest festival and Treefort fest in March, continuing with a U.K. tour in April, before the full U.S. run kicks off on April 28 in Jacksonville at the Welcome To Rockville festival.

Watch FOZZY's Music Video For 'Painless'

Watch FOZZY's Music Video For 'Painless'

FOZZY's video for the song "Painless" can be seen below. The track is taken from the band's latest album, "Judas", which was released last October via Century Media.

FOZZY singer — and WWE wrestling superstar — Chris Jericho recently told AXS that he felt "Judas" was going to be a "turning point" for his band. "I mean, you hear that every time a band releases something, but this album really does feel different," he said.

"There's a big hierarchy in rock radio. There are the B-level stations and then there's the A-level that are really the elusive ones," he continued. "They are very, very hard to land. If you can land those, that can get you to the Top 10 and it still means something for you to be able to do that, and 'Judas' has opened some of those doors for us. I think 'Painless', which is going to be our next single, will probably swoop right in there and take over."

Jericho went on to say that "Judas" was a collection of 11 potential singles. "We worked really hard to put together a record that could do that," he said. "I'm not gonna say we were set up to write that way, but once we started getting into a groove, we all really felt these songs were perfect for radio.

"These songs are just very memorable, hook-laden, melodic songs that sometimes don't have a guitar solo in them," he added. "We looked at is as if it doesn't feel right, then all right, there won't be one. For a rock and roll band to do a song without a solo is strange, but for us, we realized if it's not going to add anything to the song, then let's not do it. Once we got that mindset, then the record just came flowing out."

FOZZY will continue to rock its fans across America on the "Judas Rising" tour. Set to launch February 28 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the 25-date trek will cross the entire country before coming to a close on April 8 in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.

The production duties on "Judas" were handled by Johnny Andrews, who co-wrote FOZZY's "Lights Go Out" track back in 2014 and has written songs with the likes of ALL THAT REMAINS, THREE DAYS GRACE and HALESTORM in the past.

DELIVERANCE To Release The Subversive Kind Album In February; Details Revealed

DELIVERANCE To Release The Subversive Kind Album In February; Details Revealed

Deliverance have announced that they are working with Roxx Records and 3 Frogz Records, to officially release their brand new album, The Subversive Kind, on February 23rd.

Hailing from Los Angeles, the band is comprised of members Jimmy Brown (founding member, lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Glenn Rogers (original member, lead/rhythm guitar), Victor Macias (formerly of Tourniquet, bass), and Jim Chaffin (formerly of the Crucified drums), with guest lead guitar work by Greg Minier.

"After so many years touring and recording I was honored to be asked back in Deliverance,” says Rogers. "We have unfinished business, and with The Subversive Kind coming out I hope the fans will rediscover what Big D is all about."

The Subversive Kind is a true return to form for these Christian thrash pioneers, boosting eight brand new tracks that truly bring the thrash back.

Bill Bafford of Roxx Records had this to say about the new partnership - “We are very excited to once again be partnering with 3 Frogz, Jimmy Brown and Deliverance to bring you this awesome new thrash release. The fans that have been requesting a 'Weapons part 2’ will be ecstatic with this new release."

And the results speak for themselves, as evidenced by the newly unveiled lyric video for one of the album’s standout tracks, “The Black Hand”, which can be found below.

“’The Black Hand’ was one of the first tunes Jimmy and I hashed out together,” says Chaffin. “His articulation of what a panic attack feels like was spot on. Mental illness is a major problem in our country and I’m stoked to be able to give people some hope through music.”

“Anxiety has not only been a hot button issue, but a condition that is still being studied to understand,” adds Brown. “’The Black Hand’ is a vivid description of vitals, and emotions experienced in part by a person when going through such an experience.”

Collectors are also in luck - several different configurations are available for pre-order:

- Red vinyl
- Black vinyl
- CD

Head here to pre-order other release configurations.

Lastly, Brown says he couldn’t be happier with the band’s current lineup. “After 33 years, the band has evolved and morphed throughout, but has returned to the roots of why we started doing this years ago! The current lineup is a dream come true for me, and we can’t wait to bring it live.”

MONSTER MAGNET Streaming Title Track Of New Album

MONSTER MAGNET Streaming Title Track Of New Album

"Ladies and gentlemen, I humbly present for your consideration the title track from our new album: Minducker. We got the rock if you want it! I hope you can dig it", says Dave Wyndorf, Monster Magnet frontman. The title track and first single, "Mindfucker" is a available for streaming below.

Monster Magnet puts the pedal to the metal with Mindfucker, their 11th record. Mindfucker is different, a step forward and a step back at the same time to the almighty roots of hard rock music, kindled by the unpretentious Proto-punk era. Up tempo, savage in both sound and spirit, Mindfucker is the real deal. The album has the potential to surprise and to whip up the love for the genre, while still giving the sludgies and stoner freaks exactly what they wish for in a new Monster Magnet album.

Mindfucker will be released on March 23rd, and can be pre-ordered right here.

“Mindfucker is a fuzzed out, headbangin’ celebration of hard rock and 21st century paranoia” says Dave. “Ten fuel injected, nitro burning tracks of fiery rock ’n roll and garage psych madness, all done Monster Magnet style. It’s also an album that gets right to the point: the world is out of it’s fucking mind and I’m livin’ it….for better or worse. It’s simple, really. In these crazy times I’ve been wanting to just drive my car at 100 miles per hour and howl, you know what I mean? So I wrote songs I can do that with. And with lyrics that don’t deny the times we’re living in. Feels good, feels right. Rock is alive, baby!”

Will There Be A New SLAYER Studio Album? 'I'd Say It's A No,' Says GARY HOLT

Will There Be A New SLAYER Studio Album? 'I'd Say It's A No,' Says GARY HOLT

Jimmy Kay of Canada's The Metal Voice conducted an interview with SLAYER and EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt at last night's (Wednesday, January 24) Hall Of Heavy Metal History awards gala and induction ceremony in Anaheim, California. You can now watch the chat below.

When asked about SLAYER's announcement that it was embarking on its "final" world tour, Holt replied: "My middle name is 'No Comment.' See you at the shows. Seriously, no comment."

After Kay suggested that the members of SLAYER might reconsider retirement from the road, similar to the way SCORPIONS changed their minds after announcing in 2010 that they would end their career following a three-year farewell tour, Holt said: "Noooo. C'mon! But I love the SCORPIONS. I hope [their tour] never ends.

"We are wrapping it up," he continued. "The tour dates have been announced. The tour is huge. It's gonna be awesome. And I'm honored and proud to be a part of it. And we're gonna make it something for people to remember. It's gonna be epic."

Pressed about whether there will be a final SLAYER album to complement the band's decision to stop touring, Holt said: "No. No, there's no new album. I'd say it's a no. But my name is Gary 'No Comment' Holt today. I don't know nothing. You've seen the dates, you saw the press releases. And come out and celebrate the mighty history of SLAYER, which I'm lucky to have been part of for the last seven years now. It's been a ride, it's been remarkable, and we're gonna end it in gloriously violent fashion."

Holt also confirmed that he has been writing material for EXODUS's follow-up to 2014's "Blood In Blood Out" album. "I'm taking my time," he said. "I'm super proud of it. It's heavy, of course. It's crushing. It's brutal. But it's something else — it's something altogether different."

SLAYER's latest album, "Repentless", was released in September 2015. Holt did not contribute to the songwriting process on the disc, although he did lay down guitar solos on most of the album's twelve tracks.

Holt joined EXODUS in 1981 shortly after their formation, and has been the band's main songwriter ever since. Holt has performed on every EXODUS album, and is considered highly influential in the world of thrash metal. In 2011, he began filling in for SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman at live shows, and became the band's full-time co-guitarist as of 2013, while remaining a member of EXODUS.
