UNDEROATH Shares New Single 'Lifeline (Drowning)'

Metalcore outfit UNDEROATH has released a new standalone single, "Lifeline (Drowning)", via MNRK Heavy. The band most recently released the acoustic version of its single "Let Go", which received acclaim from Revolver, Alternative Press and Kerrang!, and launched UNDEROATH into a U.S. headline tour with PERIPHERY. Both songs, which will be included on UNDEROATH's upcoming full-length album, set for release in early 2024, showcase the band's new direction with unmatched creativity and innovative storytelling.

Speaking on the new single, UNDEROATH said: "'Lifeline (Drowning)' is a cry for help… I feel like we've all been there, be it as simple as miscommunication or a full on toxic relationship — that very feeling that you cannot tread water like this any longer or you may end up drowning. We wanted to create a song centered around the melody that could still hold the energy of a full-blown heavy song."

UNDEROATH recently announced its summer tour dates, beginning on July 5 at Peterson's Event Center in Pittsburgh. The trek includes co-headlining dates with THE GHOST INSIDE, with support from WE CAME AS ROMANS and BETTER LOVERS, additional shows supporting FALLING IN REVERSE and ICE NINE KILLS, and appearances at the Inkcarceration, Ohio Is For Lovers and Tennessee Is For Lovers festivals.

"This tour has been a long time in the making and I couldn't be more pumped," said UNDEROATH. "The fact that we've never toured with any of these bands before is wild but the fact that we're all on one tour is making me count down the day till it starts. Insane summer ahead!"

UNDEROATH reinvents the balance between chaos and harmony with each successive release. Their compositions, conjured from creative tension, become iconoclastic anthems. Even when the band almost combusts, the crackling energy coalesces into something deeply resonant for millions.

Their pair of gold albums and three Grammy nominations stand in stark defiance of the idea of commercial compromise. The UNDEROATH catalog weaponizes noise, aggression, and ambiance as skillfully as melody. The combination of heaviness and headiness found on "Define The Great Line" makes it the only record of its kind to debut at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

The heart of their sound, which delivers naked vulnerability with thrilling force and cinematic lushness, can be heard in generations of bands who've pursued their trail.

Walking an artistic tightrope between immersive access and isolationist otherness, UNDEROATH owns the space between huge choruses and forward-thinking heaviness, both on record and onstage.

SMASHING PUMPKINS Release 'Spellbinding' Music Video

SMASHING PUMPKINS have shared the official music video for "Spellbinding", taken from their critically acclaimed trilogy album "Atum". Directed by Kevin Kerslake, who previously directed videos for the band ("Cherub Rock" and "I Am One"),worked closely with Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, James Iha and Jeff Schroeder to create digital avatars of themselves, existing within an otherworldly fictional universe that is "Atum", created by frontman and founder Billy Corgan.

Speaking on the making of this video, Kerslake shares: "We adopted a virtual production model for the 'Spellbinding' video, creating it entirely in the gaming engine; unreal, with digital avatars moving through fantastical worlds that play a key role in the 'Atum' storyline. Billy and I share an interest in the fusion of old-world elements with state-of-the-art technology, and all the stars aligned on this video to break new ground."

The "Spellbinding" video coincides with the launch of SMASHING PUMPKINS' North American "The World Is A Vampire" tour, which kicked off last night (Wednesday, June 28) at The Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. Produced by Live Nation, the 27-date tour will feature special guests INTERPOL, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and RIVAL SONS as support on various dates, as well as some of the world's biggest champions from the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA),who will be competing in most cities. "The World Is A Vampire" tour has already sold-out 30,000-plus-capacity shows in Mexico City this year, as well in cities across Australia this year, and is set to expand to more countries in the future.

The sequel to 1995's "Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness" and 2000's "Machina/Machine Of God", "Atum" features 33 tracks in three acts and was written and produced by Corgan over the past four years.

In other news, Corgan's popular podcast series "Thirty-Three With William Patrick Corgan" continues to quench the thirst of dedicated PUMPKINS fans all over the world, offering listeners the chance to hear never-before-heard "Atum" insight, as-well as diving into various aspects of the band's illustrious history. "Thirty-Three With William Patrick Corgan" is distributed by iHeart Podcasts and available on iHeartRadio and everywhere podcasts are heard.

When SMASHING PUMPKINS first emerged out of Chicago in 1988, the world had never heard a band quite like them. They spun together rock, pop, shoe-gaze, metal, goth, psychedelia, and electronic into a kaleidoscope of saccharine melodies, fuzzy distortion, bombastic orchestration, incendiary fretwork, eloquent songcraft, and unshakable hooks. Upon their formation, their sound was different, iconoclastic, and wholly new — and it still is today. As a result, they've sold over 30 million albums worldwide and collected two Grammy Awards, two MTV VMAs, and an American Music Award. Their catalog is highlighted by the platinum "Gish" (1991),the quadruple-platinum "Siamese Dream" (1993),diamond-certified "Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness" (1995),platinum "Adore" (1998) and gold "Machina/The Machines Of God" (2000). In 2018, they embarked on one of their most successful tours ever, the "Shiny And Oh So Bright" tour.

Exclusive: WE ARE SOVEREIGN Premieres “Don’t You Dare Quit (Resilience)” Video

BraveWords is hosting the exclusive premiere of the new video by British metalcore quartet We Are Sovereign; “Don’t You Dare Quit (Resilience)”, which is set for release on July 3, 2023, ahead of the release of their debut album Step Out Your Comfort Zone on September 4, 2023.

We Are Sovereign have a simple message for fans and casual listeners on their new single; “Don’t You Dare Quit (Resilience)”.

Speaking about the new single, co-vocalist Laura Russell had this to say:

“We Are Sovereign stands for resilience. This is the sole reason the band We Are Sovereign exists today. I ask you, if you're reading this and you have a dream; stay focused. Find your resilience. Believe in yourself Even if nobody else does. Don’t you dare quit.”

Russell concluded by saying:

“For those who have dreams, the dreamers, the ones who imagine themselves in places others couldn't. For those that are wanting to break doors down and conquer what others see as the impossible.”

Life is a crazy and unpredictable journey, and British metalcore quartet We Are Sovereign want to take you through every part of it with their music. Their motto is, “We speak for those who feel like giving up, we speak for those who feel like they have lost the way, and we speak for those who fear the unknown.”

It all started in 2019 in an apartment bedroom of co-vocalist and founder Laura Russell. After suffering with Gender Dysphoria since their teenage years, and having spent years battling mental health issues, Laura had a life changing operation to feel comfortable within their own skin. The emotions of Laura’s experience are where a lot of the inspiration for the music, concepts and lyrics come from. When Laura had recovered from a journey of healing and finding themselves, they began to recruit members.

Co-vocalist Ash Ho replied to an ad from Russell. They set to work writing and recording vocal demos while still hunting for the rest of the members. Despite setbacks caused by the pandemic, WAS headed into the studio with Ben Gaines at the Godhand Initiative in Derby to prep their debut album, Step Out Your Comfort Zone. Their debut singles, “Bridges Burnt Lessons Learnt (Betrayal)” and “Nostalgia (Acceptance)” did well with the media.

The band spent the remaining months of 2022 in the studio working on the album and preparing behind the scenes to hit the stage. Despite the story and journey of the band almost playing out backwards, they now have everything in place and are set to conquer stages across the UK in 2023. With a view to bring their message of inclusivity and autonomy to the masses. Their mission is to encourage people to stand up to be who they want to be and yearn for people to be comfortable within themselves.

Finnish Thrashers TAKALAITON Release "Get What You Asked For" Video

It's time to "Get What You Asked For" as you enter the monstrous moshing pit from Finnish thrashers TakaLaiton, and their new music video in support of their debut album Mindfection, produced by Teemu Aalto (Omnium Gatherum, Insomnium) being released on July 28, 2023 via Rockshots Records.

"Get What You Asked For", is the purest form of TakaLaiton's musical mayhem. The lyrics are based on today's society in the way of how we're nothing but ready to kill our own if we don't think the same about everything in general, along with the idea that everything and everyone has a price.

"Corporations are ready to destroy mother nature for the sake of the dollar and everyone who stands in their way has a price that makes them back off," adds the band.

"Get What You Asked For" came together in one hungover morning at Laiton Studio when the band was having a songwriting weekend. Vocalist/guitarist Juho came up with the riffs for the song, but he was missing a chorus riff. Pasi, the band's lead guitarist added that in and the band managed to build the song structure on that very day. Not long after that, Juho wrote the lyrics in two days.

Hailing from Finland's far north, TakaLaiton garners a powerful melodic groove thrash-influenced attitude that is best seen in their super-energetic live shows that have always left fans with a sore neck and bruises from the moshpit. With a risk-taking thrash-fueled demeanor, TakaLaiton superbly blends fast-paced energy, and a bone-crushing groove, with melodies that can only be inspired by the dark, depressing, and frigid far-north. Not to mention the band's lyrical onslaught, sung in both Finnish and English. Since their inception, the band has covered a lot of territories while on tour, bringing their rowdy stage presence to the Scandinavian regions, the rest of Europe, and Asian continents.

TakaLaiton has a "break the rules, exceed all limits" approach, as their name suggests; deriving from a Finnish baseball term for "swing the ball over the borders.'' With that fierce frame of mind, the band has won Heavy Metal Heart 11 - a National Music Contest in Finland; and is ready to follow up their 2019 double EP SisuKastraatio I & II, with 2023's Mindfection; their first full-length that is based on today's society, where we as people do everything to be a part of it and what's sickening to the band is that people are ready to do anything in the name of a couple minutes of fame. This album is based on this sick way our world has come to be.

"We think this will be the album that the TakaLaiton fans will consider a classic in the future. The well-known crushing sound and the rage are in there with the heartwarming melodies, which TakaLaiton fans are familiar with. We are absolutely psyched about the album's release and the fact it's coming through Rockshots Records! We spent literally everything we had when it comes to effort and money on this album and the final result turned out to be magnificent with the producer Teemu Aalto. With our great partners in Rockshots Records, we know that this album will find everybody that it has to!"

VORAATH Feat. XAEL, RAPHEUMETS WELL Members Announce New Vocalist CHELSEA MARROW; “Siren Head” Music Video Released

Voraath, the brutal horror-inspired extreme metal band featuring members from Xael, Rapheumets Well, Implosive Disgorgence, and Sweet Blood has announced new vocalist Chelsea Marrow (Visitant, The Monster Factory - Death Metal Choir for the video game DOOM Eternal) to their lineup. To debut her vocal prowess they are unleashing a re-envisioned, remixed, and remastered version of the single and music video "Siren Head" along with the addition of guest melodic vocals from Taylor Presnell to be distributed by Exitus Stratagem Records.

Band founder and drummer Joshua Ward comments:

"This was the first song we wrote as a band, it was a fun song inspired by our children who were fans of the horror creature ‘Siren Head,’ which is a creature developed by Trevor Henderson. So for us, this was a bonding song for us and our kids. Our lore features interdimensional deities anyways so it was not out of our conceptual scope to write a song about Siren Head. With our new vocalist bringing so much to the table and revitalizing the project, we wanted to remake the song to introduce her sound and stylistic approach to our music, setting the pace for what's to come with the full album."

Voraath is an otherworldly and experimental death metal band that brings together emotional yet brutal music and science fantasy appealing to both metal enthusiasts as well as those who appreciate the lore of the music. The band's origin began with an idea to merge extreme metal with storytelling by band founder and drummer Joshua Ward (Xael).

"I wanted to create more than just another metal band but an intricate brand with lore to explore alongside the music. We are creating a metal multiverse," adds Ward.

Integrating science fantasy, soundscapes, and metal, Voraath looks forward to tantalizing audiences and leaving them anticipating their forthcoming debut album, which is currently in the works.

As they tour across the American Midwest, they promise an onslaught of theatrics, bringing their stories of the music to life. Atmospheric and driving, the medley of blast beats, chugging bass, and heavily distorted solos will be both intense and immersive.

"Our stage wear is directly from the lore. Each one of us is a character in the lore of our music. Tactical dystopian armor, Alien-like helmets with red glowing lights, we try to represent the vibe we are writing about," says Ward.

Lineup:
Chelsea Marrow - Vocals
Tylor Kohl - Guitar
Paul McBride - Bass
Joshua Ward - Drums, Keys, Vocals, Studio Guitars

Watch: MEGADETH Joined By FEAR's LEE VING For Performance Of 'Nothing Is Something' From MD.45

Lee Ving, frontman for the legendary punk band FEAR, joined MEGADETH on stage last night (Saturday, June 24) during the latter band's concert at MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa, Florida to perform the song "Nothing Is Something" from Ving's 1996 collaboration with MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine, MD.45. Video of Lee's appearance can be seen below.

Both FEAR and MEGADETH served as the support acts for MISFITS at the Tampa show, with the horror punk pioneers making their first Florida appearance featuring the classic lineup of original singer/songwriter Glenn Danzig and original bassist Jerry Only with longtime guitarist Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein.

In 1996, Ving and Mustaine released "The Craving", the sole album from the duo's side project MD.45. That version included vocals and harmonica by Ving. In 2004, Mustaine reworked the album, replacing Ving's tracks with his own. In Mustaine's 2011 autobiography, "Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir", he stated the change was "an effort to entice interest from MEGADETH fans who might have overlooked the original."

"The Craving", was a critically panned affair that featured a musical style once described by Mustaine as "the New Wave of British Heavy Metal crossed with a punk singer, and whatever influences the two of us have melted into one."

In a May 2020 interview with "The 80its" podcast, Ving said that the 2004 re-release of "The Craving" was done "without any notification or preparation, like notifying the guy who sang it first." When asked if Mustaine had contacted him since, Ving said that Mustaine had "not reached out in practically any way."

But Ving said that he wanted some closure to the matter. "In fact," Ving said of Mustaine, "if I knew how to call him, I would, just to get pressure off the matter. And we could be what friends we could be."

Back in 2004, Mustaine revealed in an online post that he got $250,000 from his then-record label Capitol to make the MD.45 album. But he claimed that Capitol "did not market MD.45 at all because it would have possibly interfered with their other priority, the successful band MEGADETH. However, the great people of EMI allowed me to go back in and re-issue this record, which I am totally pumped about."

Mustaine and Ving reportedly created the MD.45 band name by reversing their initials. Mustaine's reversed are "MD" and Ving's are "VL," which is 45 in Roman numerals.

Two decades ago, Mustaine told Classic Rock magazine that "a lot of" the music on "The Craving" "was intended for MEGADETH, but every time I turned around, Marty [Friedman, then-MEGADETH guitarist] had a solo record coming out; Nick [Menza, then-MEGADETH drummer] had his own solo project. Y'know, was this MEGADETH or not? I said, 'You don't see me going off to play with anybody else. If I'm not doing it, then none of you guys are. And if I do it, then we all can — but I might not come back.' By the time I got into the studio with Lee, I figured it was a case of goodbye. But we got back together after a little period of time."

FINAL GASP To Release Debut Album, Mourning Moon, In September; Title Track Music Video Posted

Boston’s Final Gasp have signed to Relapse, and will unleash their debut album, Mourning Moon, on September 22. A harrowing journey through all things hardcore, metal, and goth, Mourning Moon drags the listener through twelve thrilling tracks. Vocalist and guitarist Jake Murphy delivers an unmatched, soulful performance while taking on the weightiest of topics.

“The whole record has to do with loss,” he explains. “The title comes from that anxious feeling you have when you go to bed and you’re thinking about everything all at once. You’re regretting decisions you’ve made - or didn’t make - and you’re up all night thinking about it.”

Mourning Moon’s hook-laden title track explodes out of the underground and aims straight for the stars. It’s downright catchy and showcases Final Gasp’s knack for expert songwriting and lyrical craft.

“Mourning Moon professes eternal love through a lens clad in black and morbid as ever, dripping in melancholy while being propelled forward by a cavernous beat. “I wrote this song for someone but it ended up being about so many people who are either here or gone. It’s a love letter to loss,” Murphy explains.

The lead single is available today accompanied by a cinematic video shot in the North Shore of Massachusetts, and directed by Caleb Gowett. He tells, “Dumah and Azrael have been banished from Heaven. Azrael on the Earth realm, and Dumah below. Azrael must trick the mourning Groom into helping him summon Dumah. But first Dumah will need an earthly body. The Groom’s recently deceased Bride will do just fine. Azrael and the Groom complete the summoning ritual and bring Dumah to the Earth realm. Reunited again, the Angels of Death light the flames of war and begin their reign over Earth. Destroying humanity one soul at a time.”

Final Gasp recorded Mourning Moon in Philadelphia with famed producer Arthur Rizk (Ghostmane, Cavalera Conspiracy, Sumerlands). Its foundation was built by the band’s two previous EPs - 2019’s Baptism of Desire (Primitive Propaganda) and 2021’s Haunting Whisper (Triple B). “Every song was  written with nothing but a natural feeling for what felt right,” Murphy tells. “There’re tons of different influences, like Killing Joke and Die Kreuzen, even Echo & The Bunnymen and SSD.  But we’re not really thinking about other bands. We feel like we’ve tapped into something that’s our own.”

Mourning Moon proves to be one of the most inventive journeys this side of the genre in recent times - now, Final Gasp are ready to emerge from the shadows, and step into the forefront of extreme music's new guard.

DRAGONFORCE Frontman MARC HUDSON Announces First Solo Album, 'Starbound Stories'

DRAGONFORCE frontman Marc Hudson has signed a worldwide contract with Napalm Records. Hudson's first solo album, "Starbound Stories", will arrive on August 25. The effort is described in a press release as "a sparkling, anime-inspired power metal ride, heavily influenced by both Japanese music and video game soundtracks, and featuring a horde of notable guests.

Hudson comments: "It is with great pride that I can finally announce my signing to Napalm Records. I'm very grateful for the label's belief in me as a solo artist and can't wait to have Napalm on my side to show 'Starbound Stories' to the world!"

The first single from "Starbound Stories" is "Astralive", which marks the start of an exciting new chapter and serves as a first taste of Marc's upcoming solo debut, accompanied by an official music video. "Astralive" lures with an undeniably catchy chorus whilst also featuring fast drum patterns, spellbinding guitarwork and keys, and skillful power metal vocals that reach for the skies.

Hudson states: "'Astralive' is the first single from the album and takes the listener on a power metal journey through space and time. This song explores the cosmic mysteries of the universe and mankind's eternal search for wisdom beyond the stars."

Instrumental album opener "As The Twilight Met The Sea" acts as an introduction to the soundscapes of the album and features samurai metal master Ryoji Shinomoto (RYUJIN, previously known as Gyze) on traditional Japanese instruments. Shinomoto also lends his vocals on the following track, "Freedom Heart", which also features a solo by guitar virtuoso Syu (GALNERYUS). Explosive power metal anthem "Dracula X" features a guitar solo by Jacky Vincent (ex-FALLING IN REVERSE, ex-CRY VENOM) and guest vocals by Adrienne Cowan (SEVEN SPIRES). Beautifully emotional successor "Stars" features classically trained violinist Mia Asano on electric violin. Energetic "The Siren" is led by a tingling melody and ballad-like vocals. "Swansong" starts off with a beautiful keyboard intro that could be pulled from a movie soundtrack. Sentimental vocals approach before the song progresses into a full-blown power metal ballad, with high screams and plenty of effects that further enhance the magical atmosphere while backing up the guitars and drums. Steve Terreberry, known on YouTube as Stevie T., performs a guitar solo on "Call Of The Martyrs" and is joined by prog guitarist Galen Stapley (AZURE). Stapley also provides a solo on the following title track, "Starbound Stories". "One More Sight Of The Sun With You" is sung in Japanese, staying true to the main themes of the album and closing the entire offering on an uplifting note.

Hudson's debut solo album is an outstanding musical adventure balanced between power metal, video game soundtracks, Japanese music and even pop influences, showcasing virtuosity throughout all of its grand instrumentation.

SEVERED ANGEL Release "Wide Awake In Screamland" Music Video

Northeastern US melodic metal band, Severed Angel, has released their new music video, for the song "Wide Awake In Screamland", from their self-titled debut album, self-released by the band on CD and digital format back in May.

The video was generated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and was produced by Severed Angel drummer Wayne Noon. Watch below.

Says the band: “Do you ever have trouble falling asleep? Well… then this song is for you. Simply put, this song is about insomnia. While you lie awake in bed, your mind races through so many different topics and ideas. It’s almost as if your brain becomes your enemy. As the hours pass, you become more and more desperate for sleep. You get mad at yourself as your mind continues to betray you. Frustration turns to anger and you just want to scream. Before you know it, your morning alarm is going off. This song will take you through the emotional roller coaster that leaves you Wide Awake In Screamland.”
