HATE ETERNAL Signs With METAL BLADE RECORDSMetal Blade Records has announced the signing of death metal legends HATE ETERNAL to worldwide deal. The band is currently writing material for the follow-up to 2005's "I, Monarch", which is expected to be recorded at HATE ETERNAL mainman Erik Rutan's own Mana Recording Studios in June/July 2007.
Formed in 1997, HATE ETERNAL's goal has always been to challenge musical limitations and create new boundaries with no compromise; to obtain goals aimed at by many yet reached by only a select few; to create music that not only defies all clichés, but that creates a true sense of power, dissonance and consonance, heaviness and speed, melody and brutality, simply put horrific hymns. Guitarist Erik Rutan has crafted an impressive career by attaining that goal consistently for well over a decade with his legendary work in RIPPING CORPSE and MORBID ANGEL. Not to mention his other career as engineer/ producer for bands such as CANNIBAL CORPSE, SOILENT GREEN, SIX FEET UNDER, CELLADOR, VITAL REMAINS, PREMONITIONS OF WAR, GOATWHORE and INTO THE MOAT, just to name a few.
Metal Blade Records owner/CEO Brian Slagel, stated: "I am truly honored to be working with HATE ETERNAL. They are a legendary band and I am so happy to welcome them to the Metal Blade family."
Erik Rutan commented: "Signing to Metal Blade for us reconfirms that all the hard work, blood, sweat and tears we have put into the band has been worth every single moment. This is completely amazing. We know we will forge on with all the support and confidence a band can ask for from their record label. We are proud to be a part of the hugely successful Metal Blade family and look forward to bringing our music to the next level."

AUTUMN TEARS Finishes Recording 'The Hallowing'Dark Symphonies recording artist AUTUMN TEARS has finished recording its long-awaited new release, entitled "The Hallowing". Mainman Ted Tringo says: "All that is left now is the final mixing, mastering and completion of the layout. Expect the album to be ready within a few months at the latest."
After a decade of evolving, the band has finally shed its shell of neoclassical, darkwave and gothic sound, opting to pursue a more traditional classical and chamber music style. Drawing influences from such masters as Bach, Brahms, Hayden, Mahler and a host of others, AUTUMN TEARS boasts rich and diverse musical arrangements based on music theory and employs fully live instrumentation including a live string section, woodwinds, oboe, french horn and their trademark operatic vocals.
AUTUMN TEARS' last release was 2004's "Eclipse".

MAYHEM: New Song Available For DownloadA brand new MAYHEM track, entitled "Anti", is available for download at this location. The song comes off the Norwegian black metallers' new album, "Ordo Ab Chao", tentatively due in April via Season of Mist. The CD will come in very exclusive packaging.
Commented guitarist Blasphemer (a.k.a. Rune Erickson): "The sound is raw and powerful, and listening to it, it reminds me of the 'Wolf's Lair Abyss' era, only more varied and more philosophical. The album also contains the most aggressive songs in the MAYHEM history as well as the most wicked and darkest."
The upcoming CD will mark MAYHEM's first release since 1993 with vocalist Attila Csihar back behind the microphone.
Csihar rejoined MAYHEM in November 2004 as the replacement for departed singer Maniac (real name Sven Erik Kristiansen).
MAYHEM's last studio album, "Chimera", entered the Norwegian album chart at position No. 28 upon its release in March 2004.

SHADOWS FALL: New Album Release Date AnnouncedMassachusetts-based metallers SHADOWS FALL will release their new album, "Threads of Life", on April 2 in Europe via Roadrunner Records and April 3 in North America via Atlantic Records. The CD will include the songs "Redemption", "Burning the Lives", "Another Hero Lost" and "Venomous". The band irecently wrapped up the mixing process with Zeuss (HATEBREED, UNEARTH). Nick Raskulinecz (FOO FIGHTERS, VELVET REVOLVER) produced the disc in Los Angeles at Dave Grohl's Studio 606.
"Nick helped us to push our performances to new heights and experiment a lot more with vocal harmonies and guitar layers that have really added new dimensions to these songs," frontman Brian Fair said in a statement. "This record has a real ebb and flow throughout, covering a wide variety of emotions and levels of intensity. There are the full-on thrash tunes, just balls-out and metal, some technical shred tunes and some acoustic melodic moments that offer a nice contrast to the more brutal moments."

APOCALYPTICA: 'The Band Is In Great Mood, Motivated And Working Hard'Eicca Toppinen, the primary composer of the Finnish cello-rockers APOCALYPTICA, has issued the following update:
"We are still working on pre-production for the [new] album, so there is nothing special to announce beside that we've decided to start drum recordings with Mikko [Sirén] beginning of March. It's still too early to know release date as there is many open issues, especially regarding guest artists...
"Anyhow, the band is in great mood, motivated and working hard so we should end up with really great album!"
As previously reported, APOCALYPTICA will release its double-DVD set, "The Life Burns Tour", in the U.S. on February 6.
SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo took part in a recording session with APOCALYPTICA during SLAYER's recent "Unholy Alliance" tour stop in Helsinki, Finland for a song on APOCALYPTICA's upcoming album.
Lombardo's appearance on the new APOCALYPTICA CD will mark the third time he has played on an APOCALYPTICA album, having previously performed on 2003's "Reflections" and then again on 2005's "Apocalyptica".

BRAINSTORM: Early Album Reissues To Include Bonus MaterialMetal Blade Records Europe will reissue the first two BRAINSTORM albums, "Hungry" and "Unholy" with tons of bonus material. Both albums will be released on March 23 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and March 26 in the rest of Europe. Each release (two-CD double-digipack) will be available for the price of a regular CD.
Commented BRAINSTORM guitarist Torsten Ihlenfeld; "When we played our tour for 'Liquid Monster', we realized after a few glasses of wine that in 2007 it would be ten years since the release of our debut album 'Hungry'. Besides the typical wining around how fast time flies by, etc… we also came up with something creative. Why not re-release the debut album as well as its successor 'Unholy'? Both records were not available anymore for quite some time and the timing seemed perfect to us. No new album in 2007, but two re-issues of our first two albums. Of course we didn't just want to re-release the albums in [their] original versions and after searching the archives, we found some really cool bonus material to include. Next up it was clear that we wanted to remaster both albums and even remix the 'Hungry' album if in any way possible — and we did!!! This is definitely the best possible sound you can get of the first two BRAINSTORM albums! Compare it to the originals which are included as a bonus in the very same package(s)."
"About the bonus material (remastered as well!)… The 'Hungry' album includes our '5th Season demo' from 1994 with six songs and a running time of 30 minutes. This demo gives you the chance to travel to the very early days of the band and yes, we are still very proud of the demo and quite satisfied with it! 'Unholy' includes two demos, 'Heart Of Hate' from 1993 and the 'Promo 96' demo, plus the original Japanese bonus track of 'Unholy'. Five songs in total clocking in after 25 minutes.
"We as a band celebrate the first decade of BRAINSTORM releases with these re-issues and we hope you guys out there enjoy these albums as much as we still do!
"On another note, a BRAINSTORM DVD is in the works where you can (among tons of other stuff) also see footage from the old days. We hope to release the DVD by the end of June, 2007.
"And to all those asking for a new album. Be cool! A new BRAINSTORM album will be recorded later on this year to be released in early 2008! We will continue our crusade and hope the next decade will be even more successful than the first one!"

MACHINE HEAD: 'The Blackening' Artwork RevealedThe cover artwork for MACHINE HEAD's upcoming sixth studio album, "The Blackening", has been posted online at this location. The artwork was created by longtime MACHINE HEAD artist Paul Brown (MARILYN MANSON).
Regarding the cover image, MACHINE HEAD frontman Robert Flynn previously told The Gauntlet, "It's a metal carving from the 1500s. Back then they used a lot of crude metal carving images… almost as propaganda. It was kind of like scaring people about going to hell or whatever. A lot of it had to do with devils and death and stuff like that. They were eventually banned for a while.
"The cover right now is like a skeleton sitting on a throne with his foot on top of the world and he's holding up a mirror and the mirror says 'The mirror which flatters not.'
"The reason we chose that image is that this whole record is like holding up a mirror to ourselves. It's talking about things that are going on now, but it's not necessarily specific to this time.
"There are two songs that have a pretty strong anti-war sentiment, but it's not the type of thing that's just about this war, you know what I mean? It's not necessarily a concept record in that sense, because the songs don't all tie together thematically. There isn't a story being told. I probably would have lost my mind if I would have had to tie all the lyrics together (laughs). It is about holding up a mirror to society."
Tentatively due on March 27 via Roadrunner Records (one day earlier internationally), "The Blackening" was recorded at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, CA, with MACHINE HEAD frontman Robert Flynn returning to the producer's chair, and Mark Keaton once again handling engineering duties. Longtime MACHINE HEAD collaborator Colin Richardson (CANNIBAL CORPSE, TRIVIUM, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE) mixed the record alongside Flynn in London.
"The Blackening" final track listing:
01. Clenching the Fists of Dissent
02. Beautiful Mourning
03. Aesthetics of Hate
04. Now I Lay Thee Down
05. Slanderous
06. Halo
07. Wolves
08. A Farewell to Arms
