Human Element in Musical Organism
How much may producer manipulate with the works of band?
It depends a lot! Sometimes I co-write the songs, sometimes I'm just checking the sounds and feeling.
Where did you study music and the craft of producing?
My grandmother (born in St. Petersburg) was a singing teacher and she had a big influence on me. I've took guitar, piano and singing lessons. Also my father was into electronics so everything came pretty much from the family. I've also studied computers a little.
How much important the role of the grey eminences in the musical power of heavy music of Finland? What do you think some people associate number episodes of suicide with heavy music?
I think it's not the music. It's loneliness.
What do you think about illegal distribution of music in the Internet?
You can't chance that thing, so you better start to live with it.
This is the question about band where you play drums, Kyrck. Did you have doubts that you must produce album "Cherno"? The new album will be released in the 2009. Don't you think that it is early?
It's Kypck, not Kyrck;) It was natural that I'll produce the album, it's my profession and my favorite hobby too.
What kind of influence has your work on your private life?
I'm sometimes frustrated at home if the thing are not going well in the studio. The work is following me home more than if I were a bus driver for example.
What positive and negative sides of your work? Have you any work except main?
Positive is that I can make music all the time. Negative is that I'm making music all the time:) I do motorcycling too and I have a small boat.
What music do you listen in spare time?
Lately Simon and Garfunkel and lot's of my old vinyls like Kiss, Van Halen and so on.
Album of which groups you want to produce and which never?
Jimi Hendrix has done great things in the studio, would have been interesting to be involved in his sessions. Maybe I wouldn't produce an album of Chrismas songs featuring some
favourite Finnish rock stars...
How does Finnish heavy stage relate to their neighbors and competitors - Norway and Sweden?
Finnish people have just right attitude of life to make heavy music. Swedish are maybe too sophisticated and Norvegians...Hmm maybe they are too smart to do it, hah hah...
With Apocalyptica you recorded two classical albums. What do you think about following works of the band and "World Collide" especially? What do you think about work of Jacob Hellner with Apocalyptica? Is it possible - your future works with Apocalyptica?
I haven't heard their latest albums, but I don't like the idea that their singers are always
stars from some other bands. I like the guys, maybe someday something happens.
Do you visit at the concerts of the metallic groups or you prefer CD's sound? Which concert did you visit last year? Which CD did you buy for some time past?
With Kypck I went to many festivals last summer and saw some nice gigs. Today I'm going to buy some CD, produced by Phil Spector. I just started a book about him.
Prolonged collaboration you have only with HIM. Why?
Many of the bands I've worked with don't exist anymore, which is sad. HIM still moves on. I have just a project going on with their guitarist Linde.
When you work at the studio, do you try to divine community spirit, to understand what is majority waiting?
I try to be an insider and outsider at the same time. So yes and no.
How much is Internet important for musicians?
It's important for everybody. I think musicians are taking too much influences from the other bands these days. Maybe internet has something to do with it.
The sheets are only seven+ Will music come up to time when no way to go forward without plagiary?
I hope rock'n'roll will not die.
You play keyboards, drums, bass+ May you continue this list? Will you record solo work anytime?
I have two other projects, The Skreppers and Emirs where I can do weird things with
music.
Do you know any Russian heavy bands? Why we don't have dignified and well-known bands?
I know Russians are great musicians and have always had great artists. I would produce a Russian band for sure, if they would contact me. The western media should pay more attention to what's happening in the music scene in Russia. The time will help, remember, ten years ago Finland didn't have any big names in music either.
What do you think about wide spread opinion that Russia and Finland - it is the most drunk countries?
I think it's true...well I saw in the news that young people in Europe are also getting into the groove of drinking...
Do you like football? Do you observe national team?
Yes I do! I follow World Cup always...Russia is doing very good! How could we have success in football here in Finland?
