Gothika

Gothika - Japanese interpretation

Prologue
Russian music market really lacks in show-business production from Japan. That’s why the news about the Moscow gig of Japanese industrial project Gothika on the 21st of December was very promising. Despite some obstacles connected first of all with the way the Russians are used to organizing concerts, the show was just faery. Two creatures as if they had just come out from Japanese mythology, played a very interesting and intensive show, using just a notebook and a microphone. Having attended their show we sent a couple of questions to Japanese capital to the band vocalist Andro. And he answered – quite quickly…
Gothika
“120 Days Of Sodom” is your first longplay. Tell me how much your hopes and plans, concerning the further status of Gothika, are justified after release of the album?

This is GOTHIKA's first full album. And this is quite different from our previous products we
released when our band name name was EUTHANASIE. This album includes no guitar sound and this album is a complete electronic album. Actually we wanted to perfect electronic album like this.
Gothika
But now we are in the center of "shift period". We are not satisfied by this album, so we want to make new songs soon.

It's not difficult to guess what the whole album is about, the title is pretty exciting. Could you explain what does this phrase mean for you and what themes are revealed in songs?

I selected this title from my favorite movies. "120 Days of Sodom" is my favorite Italian movie created by Pasolini. The lyrics of some songs i

n this album are related to this movie. The theme of this album is various kinds of taboo (including sex and religion). I expressed this kind of atmosphere in this album. But I'm not a fascist.

Why have you decided to rename the project to Gothika after EUTHANASIE?

This name is very dangerous. When we played in Germany in 2006, we had to change our band name. It is deeply related to German history. Every promotor in Europe (especially in G
Gothika
ermany) told us to change our band name. So, we decided to change our band name at last. And GOTHIKA started at the beginning of 2007.

Here in Russia we don't have enough music from Japan. Tell me how does it go with electronic and industrial music in Japan and what would you recommend to listen to?

I think Japanese electronic and industrial music scene is very small. (Almost are acquaintance.)
I think Russian music scene is much bi
Gothika
gger. Our support member's band is cool.

Do you know any Russian musical performers?

Of course. I know DJ RAM. And we played in Radio Inferno festival in St. Petersburg in 2006.
We played with some interesting musicians there.

Your music represents interesting synthesis of industrial, pop and ethnic japan music. Could you tell some words about the creative process
Gothika
within the band? How do you write songs - do you manage with computer or also use some natural instruments?

First, #449 creates the music. And listening to the music, I write the lyrics. Finally we both arrange the song, listening together. We use only computer and synthesizer. But it takes much time to complete only 1 song because there are many ideas.

What kind of impression of Russian audience has remained with you and are
you g
Gothika
oing to visit Russia in the foreseeable future?

They are very enthusiastic. When we played in Russia for the first time, I felt something like fate. We have already played 4 times in Russia. Maybe this year, too.

You have arrived in Moscow in incomplete staff but looked wonderful and all-sufficient on stage. What had happened with the others who wasn’t with you on stage?

Actually we were just 2 persons in Moscow. But we
Gothika
are usually 4 persons (other 2 persons are support member) in Japan. It was a disadvantage for us. But we are professional. So, we must do the best even if in any situation.

What modern and classic bands do you listen to and what inspires you at all?

Classic bands. I prefer 80's new wave. Depeche Mode, cure, DEAD OR ALIVE, Laibach, etc.
Recently my favorite bands are many. Das Ich, AND ONE, VNV NATION, COVENANT, DIORAMA, Unheilig,
Gothika
etc.

Is music the main thing in your life or you have another very serious undertakings?

I am working at fetish bar in Japan. But it is also my hobby.

To what thing do you aspire? What must happen in your life to make you feel total satisfaction?

Just singing wearing strange costume on stage. But it is much better in Europe.

What have surprised you in Russia. is there something that fundamental differs from life in Japan?

When I saw night view of the city of St. Petersburg from airplane, I was really impressed. Because there was my first foreign country.

Do you play computer games and if you do what kind of games do you prefer?

Only in childhood. Now I am so busy, so, I cannot play. If I play computer games, I might not be able to do music.

And at last the classic question: what is your message to your listeners? Some words for your fans.

Please enjoy our music and our show freely. And if you listen to our music deeply and if you
understand my lyrics, you will feel our whole music and atmosphere. Please keep supporting us.
We never forget the audience in Russia.
