Hello, Chris! Can you tell me something about the working title of the new album?
Oh, yes, the new album’s concept is based on the story of the king Ludvig the second, The king of Bavaria , Bavaria is the part, e region of the Germany, where also Freedom Call came from. So just one hundred years ago.. Now a lot of metal bands are looking for the new concept in the Middle age. So we noticed tha German History is rich and it challenges are somewhere round the corner and all the things were happening in our country are interesting for us.
Why did you choose this king? Which qualities inspirited you?
Well.. The government didn’t like him, he was not free in some way.. this is the one reason; he spent money on his castles, he was free to travel through the country . he was against the rabble, he didn’t care what they re saying. As you know government told that he is mentally ill, they were trying not to let him stay the head of the country …And this was interesting for us.
Why there is the long time break between albums?
That was not our fault, because we doing the new material and we already began in September 2008 and we had finished all the recording in the March last year. And the main reasons were connected with the financial and economy crisis.. so we had to wait to be sure everything is alright.
What can the fans expect? Will there be a main theme for the album or will it be more like a story that continues from the start to the end?
So, I think this album is like the previous one and like all Freedom Call albums. We tried to keep the traditional Freedom Call sound. Bass, drums, heighted vocal! All will remind band’s own mark. We tried to combine new stuff, new elements with our old way and I think this albums is a little bit darker.
Why the album begins with a song Out Of The Ruins?
I think this song is typical from musical side because of the drums for Freedom Call. And everybody can say: “Okey, this is Freedom Call definitely.” And this song is the best start also because of the lyrical side. This song is about the crazy life of the king.. he was building up castles and didn’t care about money, about anything. This song is the good beginning to show that everybody have their own way of thinking.
How did musician conception of an album influence its design?
First of all this is really brilliant work of the artist. We wanted to show that Ludvig II was the real king, he is not fantasy-creature. We tried to display the album lyrics sense on its cover. That is why the cover is in the modern style, and it liiks more serious. It express that the band has the rich history and is still growing up.
Why did you use Area 51 studio for recording drum sets? Of course I know you were using another studio for recording another 14 songs…
For the drum recording generally you need special microphone and special room for that and most important thing- you need a lot of experience when you are recording drums/ I think now, in a modern sound you could record drums without any experience and this is what we never wanted to do about the drums. So you may be sure that our drummer play realistic and the sound is real. And that is why Freedom Call’s album sound natural
Don’t you have plans to devote an album to some Russian kings and emperors? Are you
interested in history of other’s countries crowns in general?
Maybe! I guess it could be entertaining. If you have any ideas about who can we devote the album to please tell me I ll think about it! In fact I am sure the history of Russia is really interesting and ambiguous.
Are you planning to have a tour through the Germany after releasing the album?
Yes! We are going to have nearly 30 concerts in Germany. Lots of work and energy. We re waiting for the new tour.
Maybe some gigs in Russia in this year?
We want to come to Russia but we don’t have any cities in the tour yet. We ve been in Russia seven years ago, of course we would like to come!
I know you like to play acoustic songs, and i also know that it is much harder than playing in studio version, is it because while playing acoustics you have to be closed to public? And do you agree with the statement about acoustic performances?
Yes it is harder I think. On the one side because of the sound.. we always play some acoustic songs , but people want some.. strong heavy sound, they come to the concert for emotions that our music give them.
What do you want to change in heavy music? Maybe you would like to put it into the new wave?
Some unusual instruments… but public think heavy metal bands need to have instruments like bass, drums guitars and when they hear something like… untypical they do not appreciate it I think.
Which instruments for example?
Harps, some melodically instruments. Mostly I would like people were more.. open-minded for something new.
Which is the most negative thing that has been said about you?
I don’t know! I don’t really care about negative things people says. I always listen to my friends? words, to what they re thinking about this or that situation. I try not to think about gossips and things like that.
What do you think about 2012 year? Do you believe we are all going to die?
I am sure we are not going to die in 2012! People are talking about the apocalypses for ages but the World still exist. Maybe we just need to think about the way we live… to change something.
If you got the chance to be someone else for one day, who would you like to be?
Women. I would like to be a woman! But I wont tell you why… (laughs)
What is your slogan in the way of your life?
Hmm…The life is short and try to live it perfectly.
Do you think women need to wait their princes, or we may find that one perfect man in someone who is behind us?
Women are clever. In some way they re much cleverer than we are. And they feel what they need to do. I never argue with women and I try to remember that they are different. So... I think women should do what they feel they need to do.
If this were the last day of your life what would you do?
Nothing special. I would like to spend this day as usual. Stay with my friends, with my girlfriend as long as It possible. I would try to enjoy this last day!
