Cyber Metal - Disaster Recipe

Tell me please what have you included in your coming album that 1) it became featured twice in charts of Roadrunner records, 2) it’s very high rated not only by the fans of cyber/extreme/brutal music 3) most of musical critics estimated it as to the maximum catchy 4) once again you have revealed the theme of sex and cosmic atmosphere at the same time, 5) the persons which are very close to your creative way stated that the tracks available to listen are just ten percent from the synergetic incendiary mass of “Damage Theory”?

(Dmitry) I’m very excited by your awareness in that case, as well we are very positive to hear such flattering opinions about our stuff from the musical critics. Let’s go step by step – our coming album Damage Theory will consist of 4 re-recorded tracks from EP “Synthetic Breed” as well as 7 brand new songs. You know that tracks “Cybergore Generation” and “Razor to the skin” have been featured in top-3 chart of Roadrunner records musical portal for more than month in summary. Maybe this fact is caused by the innovative and catchy atmosphere of these so

ngs, on other hand we can’t judge about such moments and be objective at the same time, only the listeners can judge and consider about which track they like most of all. Going to second point of your question – I guess our sound is not too much brutal to become unlikely for fans of not related to extreme music styles. In addition I might say that “Damage Theory” is mixed and mastered by one of the best Russian sound producers – Arkadiy Navaho at navahohut studios. According to third part of the question I need to say that I’m really surprised by such original opinion about some sex and cosmos at the same time. I might admit that sexual aspect is revealed in videoclip for the song “New Millenium Crushers”, where the role of a cybermind was played by a really busty actress, who were plaited into the tree made of electronics and mechanisms, cabels. She were painted in silver, and had an unreal make-up, but there were no casual vulgarity and direct allusions to sexual content. According to last aspect of your question I must confess – yep we’ve prepared the lots of interesting moments on our coming album like

the invited starlike musicians, such as: Tony JJ (ex-Mnemic) vocalist from Sweden, guitar virtuoso from UK Mick Priestley, vocalist of a deathcore maniacs Bleed From Within from UK – Scott Kennedy, as well as the members of one of the best Russian alternative act – AKADO: Nikita and Vasiliy (respectively vocalist and drummer) in the role of invited vocalists for the song Cybernesis. As well the CD will be inserted with a multimedia section, which includes the videoclip, photos, studio diaries. I guess our listeners would like to be acquainted with the videoclips filmed with material from our recording sessions.

How often does it happen in you concert practice that people who have come to the festival (where you’ve performed) are mesmerized from your attractiveness and finally become you fans? So what does it mean for you to have the status of a most attractive Russian cyber-metal band?

Firstly I need to admit that the appearance and the impressive concert show is a very important mechanism for the promotion of our band. Situation you’ve broached takes place

very often. It’s awesome to hear such flattering opinion about our appearance and concert show, I hope we are really worthy to wear the status of a most attractive Russian cyber-metal band, coz opinion of our fans is really important for us!

Your band has such a cute set of musicians, would you like to tell me – was it intend on purpose to be something like “backstreet boys in metal music”, or does it come natural and maybe is caused by good genes of a southern region you come from?

I need to be honest, attractive appearance serve as one of our criterion when we need to find new person for our line-up, but it’s not the main factor, at all it goes naturally and I guess it’s an Advantage for our concert show. Btw – here at the south we have a lots of attractive people so maybe genes also plays their role.

I was really excited at your latest concert in Moscow, so after that gig I started digging the industrial music, cyber culture, and revealed some perfect acts like Samael, Sybreed, Combichrist… I know you’ve changed the style,

maybe the fact of changing the musical style was also caused by something close to wonder?

Nope, the changing in our situation passed naturally. At the beginning we used to play different style of music. From time to time we were more and more influenced by idea of perfoming of a new style of metal music, where we can mix extreme modern metal with industrial and cyber/acid electronic melodies. When we have finally moved into new style niche we have revealed such awesome acts as Sybreed, Combichrist and others.

What bands have influenced you, and what bands can your fans like and listen to (in your opinion)? And vise versa – fans of what bands can really dig and like your stuff?

We are influenced by many different , but respectable acts such as Fear Factory, Disturbed, Scar Symmetry, and such bands as Suicide Commando, Infected Mushroom, Pendulum on other hand. I guess the fans of Fear Factory, Dead By April, Soilwork, Sybreed, Deathstars, The Kovenant could obtain lots of awesome impressions during the listening to “Damage Theory”

As I know, the name of your band – Illidiance – is an imaginary word, created to avoid repetition in musical market. Could you tell me how did you create such a memorable word and show me the criteria of generating your concert alias?

Yep, you’re right, Illidiance is an imaginary word without translation, born of a brainstorm, the main criterions were like “it must be: memorable, sounds cool, original, intriguing….” In case of our concert alias we also have synthetic alias, self-rendered call names formed with the same criterions. This way we have the actual line up consisted of: Me - Dimm “Xyrohn” vocals/guitars, my brother Tommy Gun “Syrex” – bass/cleanvoice, Mike Sockor – drums, Tim Viper “Integro” – guitars.

The wondering fact – as far as I know you are more famous on a foreign stage rather than on Russian one. You have more fans, more perspectives and you’re more oriented to foreign tours. Am I right? If so, how can you describe such a situation?

Yep, maybe, but we wanna have more or the same volume of tour

offers like we have in Russia, nevertheless we are going the way to have more promotion and fans outside Russia, and now the number of our foreign fans is much bigger than Russian fanbase. I might say that foreign people are more free and ready to support the new musical intentions, while Russian metalheads are more conservative. As well the problem of language base for lyrics is a common in Russia, many Russian people deny and dislike lyrics written on foreign language if band is from Russia. That’s a very strong fact of stupidity. I guess – the English based lyrics gives you a chance to be known worldwide. That’s why we are working this way and have a strong supporters and experienced representatives in UK, USA, Poland, Austria and even southern America))) The presence of a fanbased streetteams gives you a chance to play the gigs with a good attendance.

The next logical question - beyond the doubt, the result of your work exceeded all expectations, you are on the way to be very known outside the CIS countries and you know how to solve this! Could you describe the technologi

es of a promotional, PR-work which you use? For example I know you worked a lot with MySpace social network, you have recorded all studio diaries in multilingual variance. So which things and methods of promotion are you using to establish yourself on European stage, even at the time of crisis?

I need to be honest and I need to say – we wanna be more and more established on a foreign musical market, wanna be a longstanding highest quality band. Have a dream to play on wacken. Dynamo as a headliner. The technologies of a promotional work are standard, it’s are: negotiations with radiostations, zines, mediaportlas. As well we have joined some compilations released by leading European zines such as terrorizer. In the case of myspace work I might admit that this social network is very wide and gives many ways to promote yourself, and we are working hard and properly with this network.
- Maybe our English based lyrics helps us to conquer new shores. Finally I need to say – crisis is a common theme in Russia, I know that at all it’s an imaginary problem and European union can solve it,

while Russians will only discuss about it. As time goes on we talk and afraid to solve our problems then the problem will grow and its consequences will affect us more and more.

Please remove the veil of enigma from the contents of a video clip for your upcoming album.

I’m really glad to say that in the nearest time our first official musical videos will become public. The video is filmed for a song New Millenium Crushers. We were strained in case of budget, but we aimed to make it so sight as we can, as well we have performed a really exciting lines of topics. So the main line of topic might be compared with such movies as matrix, surrogates. Idea of the human mind waking from the injected delusions, translated into human brain by a cyber mind, which has no spiritual values was the main idea. The subject line with a cyber mother device role was played by a busty actress, painted in silver and tainted into tree of mechanics which symbolize the deceptive nature of cybernaut mind of the synthetic world of technocracy. it must be killed off to wake the new dawn and make the world gain a new breathe, open the eyes and see the glow of a dying sun. I hope the excitement of this image will help the watchers to understand and delve into the atmosphere we’ve already prepared.

As far as I know you’ve gained not only very good conditions of contract for coming album, but also good tour offers from the The Flaming Arts agency to hit the road and support your coming work. How have you reached these things?

The good conditions for release of “Damage Theory” were reached by the hard collaborative work, where band, management and promo agents were involved. As well you’re right, and our management (The Flaming Arts agency) now is scheduling the big and very impressive European tour for us. This tour we will play in company of respectable bands – Sybreed and Threat Signal. As well we will play already scheduled tour in CIS countries. And we are working to reach the good offers to support our coming album in US.

gig in the capital of Russia during the tour?

Yep, we will do this, I hope all the gigs will be successful!

Usually, when we talk about your concert wear and image costumes, decorations, we touch upon a subject of Syrex’s mysterious workshop. Please tell us about his studio/workshop.

Nothing mysterious, his studio is a casual workshop, placed in a big garage, arranged with lots of instruments, some lathes. There is nothing close to frankensteins dungeon or silicon valley (laughs) The main thing – you just need to have a good working abilities and experience, and if so the work will bring you satisfaction!

Do you use your own innovations, self-made devices during the recording process, or is your record session more traditional, than other aspects of your musical and image solutions?

In case of record session we are very traditional oriented, and there is nothing really new, maybe besides the fact that our electronic parts and samples are prepared already before the recording proce

ss. But we change it and update during after the mixing of all instrumental parts, and then mix them all together, and finally master it all. This decision helps us to show more bright the musical parts of samples, and have our material more properly adorned.

Do you have any interesting habits, superstitions, prejudices, something like rituals in tours or before you enter the stage?

Any musician/artists have some superstitions. For example: for me it’s prohibited to have sex before the day of a very important gig (coz this way I play more aggressive and impressive), our drummer Mike needs to drink fresh coffee before we enter the stage. We had a very funny situation with some lucky things. Thus way our previous drummer Antonio Cyclone refused to change and wash his lucky socks during the tour with Crionics (poland), he explained this fact that the laundering will remove the fortune from his socks, hehe (laughs) I dunno if there was fortune, but the disgusting smell was really torturing for all inhabitants of a tour bus!
