Black Light Burns

Prologue
Black Light Burns
Mo
Black Light Burns
w Darkside:

* If you could choose any band to tour with, who would that be?

I'd love to tour as Black Light Burns with Esben and The Witch, or Klaxons.
I love those bands so much.

* Many bands choose to go on their own without label support. Protest
The Hero has collected over 260k dollars from fans donations within 2 weeks.
Do you think it is a new model for bands?

I think bands are becoming more independent and I like that major labels are
being cut out of the picture. With the i
Black Light Burns
nternet there's no need for a
"middle man" anymore. The majors only care about money anyway. It's rare
that you'll ever find someone in a position of power at a major that cares
about being a part of something artistically significant.

* Where do you find inspiration in your extravagant scene costumes?

>From everywhere. From the world around me. You can teach someone to be
inspired. I'm always confused by questions like this. It's like someone
asking you for instructions on how to live life. Figure it out. Do what you
like.
Black Light Burns
Being inspired can't be explained or taught.

* Tell us about your new album, Lotus Island. How long did it take for
you to record it and in what directions can fans expect to see you go with
that album?

Lotus Island was an experiment and it took about 1 week to record and mix
outside of the songs 'It Rapes All In It's Path' and 'My Love Is Coming For
You'. It's a 40 minute alternate score to the 1973 film 'The Holy Mountain'.

* Who worked with artwork for Lotus Island ? Are you satisfied with
result?

I did all the artwork for Lotus Island.

* You mixed the new Black Light Burns album yourself. How did the
process go and did you face any difficulties while working on the album?

All the difficulties faced while mixing the new album were faced before it
was mixed during the last few years. I've been learning to mix and wouldn't
have used my mixes on the final product if I wasn't sure my ability was up
to par. I tried to mix 'The Moment You Realize You're Going To Fall' but I
wasn't ready.

* As we know, "Lotus Island" will be used as an alternative soundtrack
to "The Holy Mountain" (1973) movie. Why did you choose this movie and will
there be a special remake of it with the new soundtrack?

There will not be a special remake of The Holy Mountain and as far as I know
Alejandro Jodorowsky has no knowledge of me or my alternate soundtrack to
his film. It's a piece of artistic work that had a huge impact on me and
using it as a template to make new music is kind of my way of showing thanks
to the film.

* Did your short-term involvement in Marilyn Manson band contribute to
your musicianship? Have you learned something new or started to pay more
attention to certain things?

When I was younger I had really wanted to play guitar for Manson and getting
to do so was kind of a dream come true for my younger self. I didn't learn
much.... I guess I learned that sometimes when dreams come true, they aren't
as cool as you thought they would be.

* How did Black Light Burns songs end up on the soundtrack to
"Underworld: Awakening"?

My good friend Danny Lohner is always in charge of the Underworld
soundtracks, so I always participate in some way.

* You have pretty unusual and atmospheric music videos, which help to
understand and perceive your music better. How do you work on them? Who is
responsible for the main idea behind a video?

Agata Alexander and I come up with the concepts for the videos. We
brainstorm and put our ideas into action with a lot of help from our
friends. We're the wonder twins.

* Is it hard to combin
Black Light Burns
e work in Limp Bizkit and Black Light Burns? Do
you always have energy to write new songs?

It's a challenge. Mostly with making plans and scheduling. Artistically it's
easy because the 2 bands are so different that stylistically there's no
conflict. What works as a musical idea for each band is obvious.

* Have you been to Russia before? Could it be that you have some
stereotypes related to our country?

This will be my 4th time to Russia. I love the people and have no
stereotypes in mind when it comes to your country
Black Light Burns
. Just gratitude.

* What do you expect from the shows in Russia? Are there going to be
any surprises concerning the set-list?

We are sometimes surprised with our setlist. It can change even in the
middle of a show. We react to the crowd constantly and the crowd determines
the way the show goes. It's a wild show, that's for certain.

* In Black Light Burns you can do anything you want, so do you have
any ideas for the band's further development?

I have a million ideas for the band. It's an en
Black Light Burns
dless platform for artistic
expression. We are currently on tour in Europe and on our way to Russia, as
you know and already we're writing a new album. See you soon!
