SUN & SAIL CLUB: First Studio Clip Posted OnlineFU MANCHU guitarist/vocalist Bob Balch and drummer Scott Reeder have joined forces with former KYUSS bassist Scott Thomas Reeder in SUN & SAIL CLUB. Their debut album, "Mannequin", will be released in early November via Satin Records.
The first in a series of video clips featuring footage from the "Mannequin" studio sessions can be seen below.
Said Balch: "In between FU MANCHU tours, I was writing all this material that was really frantic and dark. Lots of notes and strange chords.
"A lot of times I would go interview a guitar player for my site PlayThisRiff.com and come back inspired and full of ideas. Just to make Scott Reeder laugh I would send him a file to play drums on.
"Well, anybody who has seen FU MANCHU live knows Reeder is a monster behind the kit. So I would try to throw him some curveballs to trip him up. No such luck. Every riff I sent him he nailed. After a while, there was an album's worth of stuff.
"I really wanted Scott Thomas Reeder to play bass on it. I love the work he has done in his recording studio too, so I figured that if we recorded stuff there, hopefully he'd dig it and play on it.
"I remember after the first take we walked into the control room and Reeder said, 'I had an idea!' He asked to play on it and I almost crapped myself. I don't think I've ever said 'Yes!' faster.
"His bass lines are insane. Lots of drop-A stuff which is probably pretty hard on bass. He nailed it too!
"Once the bass tracks were in place, we needed vocals.
"I had lyrics and melodies in my head. A lot of the vocal parts were four-part harmonies. Crazy stuff. So I laid down vocals on the home demos using a vocoder and a guitar.
"I thought if I could get an unmixed album with vocoder vocals together, I could start sending it out to singers that I liked to see if they had any interest. I went back into Scott Thomas Reeder's studio to lay down the vocoder parts as a guide for singers. I did the track 'Gang Justice' first and Reeder turned around and said, 'That's how the vocals will stay. It's inane.' He asked, 'Do you have stuff for every song using the vocoder?' I did. So we went to work. The only song I didn't have vocals for Reeder sang. It's named 'I'm Not Upside Down'.
"Overall, this record is heavy and dark. It's inspired by DEVO, VOIVOD, KRAFTWORK, TORCHE, SLAYER and much as it's inspired by ASWAD, JOE PASS and WES MONTGOMERY. The riffs are heavy and the vocoder vocals are full of harmonies.
"I wanted a super-heavy groove that would support angelic vocal harmonies. I think we achieved that.
Added Scott Thomas Reeder: "Yeah, Bob from FU MANCHU came into The Sanctuary do some recording with the other Scott Reeder — the drummer from FU MANCHU. I was stoked — been wanting to meet that guy for years! So they knocked out some crazy tracks all in a day — jaw- droppingly great stuff. I didn't know if it was supposed to just be drums and guitar... so I asked later on, 'Who's playing bass on this stuff?' They hadn't decided yet, but Bob was gonna come back and put some bass tracks down later. I suggested that maybe I take a stab at it, and they were down! It's really crazy stuff, the most challenging material I've done since I was in THE OBSESSED. I got through most of it — there were a few 'guide tracks' in there that I asked Bob to put down that were flawless — I ended up leaving those in. Spent just a few more days with Bob coming back to the ranch to add some textures with his arsenal of effects.
"I was kinda bummed when we wrapped on tracking! It was a blast working with these guys, and I'm glad the the other Reeder is a great guy and a monster drummer — can't wait for the confusion that is sure to come from having both of us on this thing."
Said Scott Reeder: About two years ago, Bob and I started trading riffs and beats back and forth via the wonders of modern technology. Sometimes he would be sending me three different things in one file and I would just throw up a 57 as an overhead and record my whole kit and send it back. Or I might have a beat and say, 'Hey, play something to this.' 'Whites Of Your Eyes' started that way. It was much faster and I was just warming up around the kit and got inspired to get it down. Then we got together and just slowed down the tempo and he added new parts.
"We agreed that most of the stuff needed not to be super picked apart and scrutinized. It was more of a 'first-thought-best-thought' approach. And whatever made us just laugh and go, 'Yeah, that's super weird. It's gotta be that way!!'
"It all springs from Bob's riffs; he can play anything, but he plays it the way you want to hear it!! As always, that's the most fun stuff to play to. I think that shows up in recording. It's fun to listen to.
"We blasted through 10 songs of basics in four hours. We were just having a great time, so we just knocked it out!! And to have that great bass playing of Scott's in there, I could not imagine it sounding heavier but, of course, he just blew me away."
Continued Balch: "In the end, we had J. Robbins (CLUTCH, THE SWORD, THE HIDDEN HAND) mix the record. I loved his work and I'm a big fan of the band he played bass in GOVERNMENT ISSUE. He mixed THE HIDDEN HAND's 'Mother, Teacher, Destroyer', which is one of my favorite-sounding records. I wanted to get a heavy sound like that, but I also wanted a DEVO 'Duty Now For The Future' or RUSH 'Moving Pictures' vibe. I think that those ingredients play off the vocoder really well.
"I've never even met J. Robbins. It's funny, I don't even know what he looks like. We spoke on the phone about the approach I wanted and then I sent the tunes to the East Coast to have him work on it. He did an insane job and was a total pleasure to work with.
"We picked Dan Coutant at Sun Room Audio to master the record. He has worked with CLUTCH and COLISEUM in the past. We saw eye to eye immediately."

MÖTLEY CRÜE: Fan-Filmed Video Footage Of Sunday's Las Vegas ConcertFan-filmed video footage of MÖTLEY CRÜE's September 22 concert in Las Vegas as part of the band's second residency at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino can be seen below.
The fall shows, dubbed "Evening In Hell", are an all-new production and the band is pushing its own envelope once again. The production was designed exclusively for The Joint in partnership with AEG Live and sees the band performing in front of just 4,000 people per show max, a far cry from the arenas MÖTLEY CRÜE is accustomed to playing.
"There is no show like this. There never has been, and there never will be," MÖTLEY CRÜE lead singer Vince Neil told Robin Leach of the Las Vegas Sun. "You've seen video fire from other rock acts on tour, but never the real thing."
Vince continued: "It's more than any rock group has ever produced or attempted. It really is entering the depths of hell. There's fire all around and fire coming down from above.
“There's no question this is the most dangerous theatrics ever created and far more than anything we expected. But, hey, this is Vegas, and we do bigger, bolder, badder, sleazier here better than any other place on Earth.
"We have the best fire tech experts in the world. This is so over the top, the only thing cool is what we do! Basically, we're setting everything on fire in a way that's never been done before."
Vince also spoke about the challenge of singing nonstop for 90 minutes. "I don't get one break," he told the Las Vegas Sun. "We start with a song from when we began 30 years ago. We've reached back over the years to old hits to match up with new hits. It's a difficult setlist for me vocally — 'Too Young To Fall In Love' is no easy song to perform." 1

EDEN'S CURSE: 'Symphony Of Sin' EPK AvailableAn EPK (Electronic Press Kit) for "Symphony Of Sin", the fourth studio album from multinational melodic metallers EDEN'S CURSE, can be seen below.
"Symphony Of Sin" will be released on October 4 via AFM Records. Produced by Paul Logue and mixed and mastered by the group's longtime engineer, PINK CREAM 69 and UNISONIC bassist Dennis Ward, the CD is the first EDEN'S CURSE release with new Serbian vocalist Nikola Mijic (ALOGIA, DREYELANDS) and Welsh keyboard wizard and POWER QUEST mainman Steve Williams.
The cover artwork for "Symphony Of Sin" was once again created again by Thomas Ewerhard (EDGUY, AVANTASIA, JORN) and marks the return of a familar face in "Eve," who previously graced EDEN'S CURSE's debut album cover.
"Symphony Of Sin" track listing:
01. Symphony Of Sin02. Break The Silence03. Evil & Divine04. Unbreakable05. Fallen From Grace06. Losing My Faith07. Rock Bottom08. Great Unknown09. Turn The Page10. Sign Of The Cross11. Wings To Fly12. Devil In Disguise13. Where Is The Love?
The "Evil & Divine" video can be seen below. The clip was shot on location at the famous St. Andrews in the Square location in Glasgow under the direction of Ryan Priddy and his team at Independent Element.
Hailing from Senta, in the North of Serbia, Nikola is a vastly experienced singer despite his tender years. For the past ten years, he has been fronting Serbian outfit ALOGIA and more recently Hungarian prog rockers DREYELANDS, who released their debut album on Lion Music in 2010. In 2008, he also featured heavily on the prog rock project album "Expedition Delta".
Said Nikola: "I'm really honored to be part of the metal journey of EDEN'S CURSE with their new upcoming album that is coming out on 4th October and I'm looking forward to rock with you guys!"
Added EDEN'S CURSE drummer Pete Newdeck: "For me, when I heard a lot of the auditions, Nik's was the one that stood out. It stood out mainly because of its originality. His voice was strong, it was soulful and he had something different to offer. That's really why I championed him, because I think he could offer something different, change the face of the band and possibly help this band move forward."
Stated EDEN'S CURSE bassist Paul Logue: "When Nik sent his audition of 'Evil & Divine', that's when we really began to sit up and take notice and say that this guy was something special. He is the complete package."
Guitarist Thorsten Koehne enthused: "He's just an amazing talent, one of the most amazing singers I've seen in recent times. He's just so versatile in what he can do and he just fits the band perfect because with EDEN'S CURSE, we're very diverse, as far as the music, so there's not just one particular style that we are doing. So we were really looking for a singer that could keep up with that and have a range in his vocals. Nikola is just perfect because he can do so many things, from blues to metal stuff and everything in between."
Williams, a former member of DRAGONFORCE, commented: "It was a real thrill to be asked by Paul and the boys to get involved in EDEN'S CURSE. I've been a fan for a long time, I've known the guys a while and it's great to be here getting myself right cursed, I can tell you."
Added Logue: "I've known Steve for a while, and when Ale left, he recommended we look at Steve. It was very easy choice for us, as we were already good friends and with POWER QUEST calling it a day, it was a perfect time in both our careers to join forces. Steve is a smashing player and one of life's true gentlemen. He is an utter joy to have on board and I am genuinely excited to see what we can produce together in the years to come as I am a big fan of his songwriting."

The limited-edition box-set version of "Dream Theater" is available for $99.99 from the Roadrunner Records webstore.
"Dream Theater" is likely to sell between 30,000 and 35,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on September 24 via Roadrunner
DREAM THEATER's previous CD, "A Dramatic Turn Of Events", opened with 36,000 units to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 8. The band's 2009 effort, "Black Clouds & Silver Linings", premiered with 40,000 copies to land at No. 6. This was roughly in line with the first-week tally registered by its predecessor, "Systematic Chaos", which shifted 36,000 copies in 2007 to enter the chart at No. 19. 2005's "Octavarium" premiered with 27,000 copies to debut at No. 36.
Speaking to Ultimate-Guitar.com, guitarist John Petrucci stated about "Dream Theater": "I think it's building on [what we did on the "A Dramatic Turn of Events" album], but taking it to the next level. One of the things I really wanted to do on 'A Dramatic Turn of Events' was to create something that was sonically very rich and high-def and powerful and I think we accomplished that. But on this album, I wanted to take that even further…. [I wanted to] get more cinematic with it and more earthy and aggressive and bigger. I wanted a bigger, more forward in-your-face kind of sound. I think that kind of dictated the sounds we went for while we were writing and recording and then ultimately how it was mixed. So yeah, it was kind of building on that, but taking it to the next level. You always need to progress and to try and do something different and kind of have a little bit different take on it and a different perspective. But hopefully make it better as you go."
The nine-track disc was recorded at Cove City Studio in Glen Cove, Long Island, with Petrucci producing and Richard Chycki engineering and mixing. It's the band's second album with drummer Mike Mangini, and the first one on which he was a part of the writing process from Day One.
In January, Petrucci said of Mangini's work: "When people hear the drumming on this album, they're gonna be pretty freaked out. On the last album, he did a great job, but he wasn't there for the writing process and he was interpreting drum parts that I had programmed. Even though he used his creativity, of course, to change them up and do his thing, I feel like now he's just Mike Mangini unleashed. It's all him. It's all his creativity, all his decisions and ideas and man, the guy's an animal."
"Dream Theater" track listing:
01. False Awakening SuiteI. Sleep ParalysisII. Night TerrorsIII. Lucid Dream02. The Enemy Inside03. The Looking Glass04. Enigma Machine05. The Bigger Picture06. Behind The Veil07. Surrender To Reason08. Along For The Ride09. Illumination TheoryI. Paradoxe de la Lumière NoireII. Live, Die, KillIII. The Embracing CircleIV. The Pursuit of TruthV. Surrender, Trust & Passion
"Dream Theater" was made available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard and special edition CDs, 180-gram double LP, and a limited-edition box set.
The video for the song "The Enemy Inside" was directed by Bill Fishman (RAMONES, STEVE RAY VAUGHAN). The strictly conceptual clip deals with the torment of a soldier who's struggling with reintegrating into his life back home due to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Regarding the song's lyrics, Petrucci told Billboard.com: "At the time that we were in the studio working on the [new DREAM THEATER] album and I was writing lyrics, the Boston Marathon bombings happened. There was a lot of discussion of terrorism and PTSD as if affects people who witness traumatic events like terrorism, so it was just very on my mind. It linked very well with the mood of the song, and as we started to get into it, I watched some documentaries and things like that. I was like, 'This is really something that needs to be written about.'" 1

CARCASS: New, Previously Unreleased Song 'Zochrot' Available For StreamingA new, previously unreleased song from reactivated British extreme metal pioneers CARCASS was made available through Decibel magazine's Flexi Series. "Zochrot" was included in the subscriber version of the magazine's October issue.
You can now stream the track at this location.
A limited number (fewer than 30) of copies of the issue that includes the flexi is available for sale in the Decibel webstore.
CARCASS' new album, "Surgical Steel", sold around 8,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 41 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on September 16 in the U.K., September 13 in the rest of Europe and September 17 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. The effort was produced by Colin Richardson (FEAR FACTORY, MACHINE HEAD, NAPALM DEATH, SLIPKNOT, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE) and mixed by Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ACCEPT, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY).
Joining guitarist Bill Steer and bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker in CARCASS' current incarnation are new drummer Dan Wilding (ABORTED, TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED) and guitarist Ben Ash (PIG IRON, DESOLATION, LIQUEFIED SKELETON).
In a recent interview with Chile's Radio Futuro, Walker stated about the new CARCASS CD: "We think we've made a good album, so it's gonna be very interesting when people get to hear the record. We can't wait to see what people think."
He continued: "It sounds like CARCASS. Even the drumming sounds like CARCASS. Everything about it… I think it's gonna shock people, how good it is. I think it's got all the elements that people like, yet it still sounds fresh. So that's all I can say, really, 'cause we don't really sound like any other band, and the fact that after 17 years, we wrote music and it still sounds like CARCASS, I think it's good."
Regarding the direction of the new CARCASS album, Walker previously stated: "We've taken stylistic cues from all the albums because it's in our blood, but it's no rehash or mess of ideas. I think it sounds almost like the missing link between the third and forth albums but with some groove in there. I've jokingly christened some parts 'trad blast' and some 'death sleaze'… don't think for a minute this is just some nostalgic throwback album — we're setting up another 17 years of ideas for other bands to copy and clean up on. [laughs]" 4

CODE: New Song 'Glimlight Tourist' Available For StreamingU.K.-based avant-garde metal outfit CODE will release its third album, "Augur Nox", on November 19 in Europe and November 26 in North America via Agonia Records.
"Augur Nox" is the first album featuring CODE's new lineup of Aort, Wacian, Syhr, LORDt and Andras. The brand-new material demonstrates the band's fresh personnel in a vivid light, confirming CODE's position as a radiant gem in the extreme metal world. It displays a multifaceted approach: from stunning wide-ranging vocals, otherworldly clean passages, and barbed metallic riffery, all filtered through a refined prism of avant-garde black metal. The album is CODE's most progressive effort to date, yet always captures the band's distinct eerie and arcane vibe.
Featuring ten tracks and 2 interludes over a 55-minute playing time, "Augur Nox" is a bold step forward where acute songwriting and expansive experimentation go hand in hand.
CODE's sound has been both refined and exaggerated at the same time, to produce a melodically dense and ambitious piece of work. The band describes the forthcoming release as their "most dynamic and challenging material to date."
"Augur Nox" was mixed and mastered at Orgone Studios (GHOST, CATHEDRAL, ULVER) in London after three years of development and pre-production.
"Augur Nox" track listing:
01. Black Rumination02. Becoming Host03. Ecdysis04. Glimlight Tourist- Dx. (interlude)05. Garden Chancery06. The Lazarus Cord07. The Shrike Screw- Rx. (interlude)08. Trace of God09. Harmonies in Cloud10. White Tryptych

PRIMAL FEAR, Ex-IN FLAMES Members Guest On ANGELICA's 'Thrive' AlbumFrontiers Records will release the debut album from Swedish singer ANGELICA, "Thrive", on November 29 in Europe and December 3 in North America. Best known for being the singer in THE MURDER OF MY SWEET, Angelica Rylin finally decided to pursue her childhood dream and to walk in the footsteps of such amazing singers such as Ann Wilson of HEART, Leigh Matty of ROMEO'S DAUGHTER and Robin Beck and record her debut solo album in a true melodic rock style.
Some melodic rock songwriting luminaries answered the call in order to create the magic harmonies and music displayed on Angelica's debut album. "Harry Hess, Daniel Flores, Robert Sall, Alessandro Del Vecchio and Anders Wigelius all contributed," says Angelica, and some excellent guitarists such as Jesper Strömblad (IN FLAMES), Magnus Karlsson (PRIMAL FEAR), Per Berquist (SMASH INTO PIECES) also appear on the album. There is also a very special performance by keyboardist Matt Guillory (JAMES LABRIE). Still, Angelica wrote or co-wrote several songs on her record, showing another side of her abilities.
"I got the chance to step out of my comfort zone and just focus on being a great singer. I also got to do a couple of amazing co-writes, for instance with Harry Hess of HAREM SCAREM," continues Angelica. "But what I'm most happy about is that I got to include a couple of my own songs too. It's a great mix of classic but modern AOR love songs."
Helped by producer, drummer and songwriting partner Daniel Flores (FIND ME, SEVENTH WONDER, THE MURDER OF MY SWEET), Angelica managed to create a superb album which offers soaring and instantly likeable hook lines, solid guitar riffs and a crisp sound.
"After releasing two albums with THE MURDER OF MY SWEET, I get an opportunity to show my fans a slightly different side of me and at the same time have fun and explore another side of rock music that I grew up with and truly love," says Angelica. "I have pushed my boundaries vocally on this album and grown as a singer, which is very important for me on a more personal level. I guess this is every singer's dream."
"Thrive" track listing:
01. Breaking My Heart02. I Am Strong03. To Your Rescue04. Can't Stop Love05. Nothing Else You Can Break06. Riding Out The Storm07. Rain On My Parade08. Losers In Paradise09. You Will Never Win10. SYLOSIS: Photo Of Damaged RV Posted OnlineBritish metallers SYLOSIS were forced to drop off their North American tour with TRIVIUM, DEVILDRIVER and AFTER THE BURIAL after being involved in a serious RV accident Tuesday night on their way to a show in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
A photo of the band's damaged vehicle can be seen below.
In a posting on the band's Facebook page, SYLOSIS guitarist/vocalist Josh Middleton writes: "Wanting to thank everyone for their support these past few days. It's been overwhelming.
"We're really feeling it pretty hard today and are looking like a bunch of slow, old men when we walk.
"Aside from the physical issues that prevent us from continuing on with the tour, it has also put us in thousands of pounds worth of debt due to losing the deposit (and now paying extra) on the RV, damaged trailer, booking new flights home, equipment damage and we're now incurring all kinds of transport/accommodation costs as we make our journey home.
"The last thing we want is for people to think we're now cashing in on the accident and taking advantage of people's sympathy, but we need some help right now so we've just released two exclusive t-shirts where all the profits will go towards clearing our debts. Both of the shirts are available as a pre-order at this location. One is the tour t-shirt (now with the majority of the dates cancelled) and the other is a brand new design we were waiting to release when we launch all our new designs in the a few months time.
"We like the idea of you guys helping us and actually getting something for your money, but we will also accept PayPal donations of any kind to: [email protected]
/* */
"I can't stress enough that we do not intend to exploit the situation.
"Thanks to all of you guys and the entire metal community right now for showing us so much support these past few days."
SYLOSIS' latest album, "Monolith", was recorded with Romesh Dodangoda in Wales at Monnow Valley Studio and was mastered by Jens Bogren (SOILWORK, AMON AMARTH, BLOODBATH) at Fascination Street Studios. The concept for the lyrics were loosely inspired by the Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. The artwork was created this time around by Dan Goldsworthy (ACCEPT, HELL). "Monolith" can be purchased on Amazon, iTunes and the Nuclear Blast webshop.

SLASH Reveals His Top 5 Horror Films (Video)Legendary guitarist Slash (GUNS N' ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER) revealed his "Top 5 Horror Pix That Scared The Slash Outta Me" during an appearance on "George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight", the Canadian television talk show broadcast on CBC television and hosted by George Stroumboulopoulos. You can watch the segment below.
As previously reported, Slash and Myles Kennedy are set to perform a new song, "Nothing Left To Fear", tonight, Thursday, September 26 on "Conan", airing at 11:00 p.m./10:00 p.m. CT on TBS.
On October 4, Slash will release the soundtrack album for the first-ever motion picture he has co-produced, "Nothing Left To Fear", via his company Slasher Films. "Nothing Left To Fear The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" will be released on October 4, exclusively at PledgeMusic.com, the same day the film opens in select theaters.
Written and produced by Slash and Nick O'Toole, the "Nothing Left To Fear" soundtrack includes the film score plus two original songs: "Nothing Left To Fear", which features vocalist Myles Kennedy, and the instrumental "Welcome To Stull".
Available on Blu-ray Combo-pack, DVD and On Demand starting Tuesday, October 8, "Nothing Left To Fear" is a harrowing tale in the spirit of the terrifying horror films of the 1970s. The movie is inspired by the legend of Stull, Kansas, which is surrounded by Internet folklore proclaiming the town to be one of the Seven Gateways to Hell. Wendy (Anne Heche), her husband Dan (James Tupper of "Revenge") and their kids have just moved to the small town of Stull, Kansas, where Dan is the new pastor. But in this sleepy community of friendly neighbors, a horrific series of occurrences awaits them: Their teenage daughter (Rebekah Brandes of "Bellflower") is being tormented by grisly visions. Her younger sister (Jennifer Stone of "Wizards Of Waverly Place") has been marked for a depraved ritual. And deep within the heartland darkness, one of The Seven Gates Of Hell demands the blood of the innocent to unleash the creatures of the damned. Ethan Peck ("10 Things I Hate About You") and Clancy Brown ("The Shawshank Redemption") co-star in this demonic shocker featuring original music by producer Slash and inspired by the real-life paranormal legacy of Stull.
"Nothing Left To Fear" is the first film from Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer Slash's production company Slasher Films, and was written by Jonathon W.C. Mills and directed by Anthony Leonardi III.
"As a longtime fan of the horror genre, I want to produce films that are in an older tradition of the genre," said Slash. "That is to say, films that leave more to one's imagination, that are psychologically scary and character-driven, and what scares you is more cerebral than superficial. Slasher Films is my vehicle to realize that aim, and 'Nothing Left To Fear' is the first film with more to come." 4

ENABLER - Impending EP To See Release Via New Division Of EarsplitMilwaukee-based wrecking crew ENABLER have confirmed the imminent release of the Flies EP, the newest swarm of embittered and volatile metallic punk/hardcore anthems to pour forth from The Beer City outfit.
The material on Flies was thrown down over two spur-of-the-moment sessions in Minneapolis and Australia earlier this year, and following a recent mastering job by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (FROM ASHES RISE, INTEGRITY, TRAGEDY, ALL PIGS MUST DIE), these random recordings have culminated into an upcoming joint assault between Enabler and The Earsplit Compound.
"The Flies EP was such an unplanned and fun thing to put together," explains Enabler's founding guitarist/vocalist Jeff Lohrber. "We recorded three of the tracks while holed-up in Minneapolis this past April, with the other three tracks being recorded during an off-day of our Australian tour in Sydney in July. We were able to track five new songs altogether, in addition to finally recording our cover of Sepultura's 'Arise' with vocal help from our tourmates in Urns. The initial plan was to self-release this digitally, but when I brought it up with Dave/Earsplit he offered to release it as the first release under this awesome new label. This is a release that I did not see happening this year at all, and yet here it is! We will still be releasing this digitally as a pay-what-you-want download, with all profits helping us fund our next record, but if you're like me, you're gonna want something to hold in your hands."
Enabler will initially unleash the EP digitally through their Bandcamp page next Tuesday, October 1st. A digipak CD version is in the final stages of plotting, the physical copies set to serve as the first release from a brand new division of Earsplit, aptly entitled The Compound, just in time for Samhain. Stay tuned for more on Flies and The Comopund's other upcoming actions in the coming days.
Following a steady supply of DIY and independent EPs and split releases, Enabler's patented alloy of crusty, morosely melodic hatesongs fueled by their enraged, bleak perspective on humanity in general was most widely publicized in 2011 when Southern Lord issued the band's debut LP, All Hail The Void. Since then, the band ravaged stages on multiple continents including taking part in the first Southern Lord label tour across North America with BLACK BREATH, BURNING LOVE, MARTYRDÖD and others, a full European assault with ROTTEN SOUND and Martyrdöd, an Australian invasion with Urns and more, in the meantime releasing a new EP via Think Fast! Records, entitled Shift Of Redemption. Following the upcoming release of the Flies EP, Enabler will record their next LP for release in early 2014.
Flies tracklisting:
'Switch'
'Flies'
'Meaningless Life'
'Sickened By The Wake'
'Sleep Forever'
'Arise'

SLAYER Is 'Definitely Working On New Music'Mitchell Peters of Billboard.biz recently conducted an interview with Scott Sokol, SLAYER's booking agent at Pinnacle Entertainment for the past 15 years.
Asked if there were ever discussions about taking a break from touring after the May 2013 death of SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman, Sokol said: "I think if it happened while they were on tour it might've been different. But Jeff hadn't been [touring] with the band for close to three years at this point. So it wasn't like [Hanneman's replacement] Gary Holt [of EXODUS] was new to the equation. At the time of Jeff's passing, Gary had been in the band for two and a half years. It wasn't going to help anybody to cancel what they were doing. The band likes to go out there and play. Not that I'm a counselor, or anything, but I think part of the way they deal with things is to do what they love. And they love to go out there and do their thing."
Sokol also spoke about how SLAYER's live show has changed since Gary Holt joined the band to replace Jeff Hanneman. "I don't think they've really missed a beat there," he said. "There's no replacement for Jeff. Gary doesn't replace Jeff, who is a legend unto himself. But Gary Holt, to a degree, is also that. He's just a little different stylistically. Brian Johnson and Bon Scott are different frontmen for AC/DC, but both are legendary in their own right. So in some way you could look at it like that."
Regarding whether there are plans for the band to record some new material soon, Sokol said: "They're definitely working on new music. More things will be revealed in the coming weeks."
SLAYER's 25-date fall 2013 North American tour kicks off on October 22 in Anchorage, Alaska. GOJIRA and 4ARM will provide support on all dates.
It was announced on May 30 by SLAYER's Tom Araya (bass, vocals) and Kerry King (guitar) that Paul Bostaph would be behind the drum kit for the remainder of the band's 2013 international tour. Bostaph was SLAYER's drummer from 1992 until 2001 and recorded four albums with the band — the gold-certified "Divine Intervention" (1994), the 1996 punk covers album "Undisputed Attitude", "Diabolus In Musica" (1998), "God Hates Us All" (2001) that received a Grammy nomination for "Best Metal Performance", as well as the DVD "War At The Warfield" (2001), also certified gold. In addition to SLAYER, Bostaph has been a member of FORBIDDEN, EXODUS, SYSTEMATIC and TESTAMENT.
Original SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo sat out the band's Australian tour in February/March due to a contract dispute with the other members of the group. Filling in for him was Jon Dette (TESTAMENT, ANTHRAX). 12

DOWN, OPETH, OVERKILL, ARMORED SAINT Featured On ROCK HARD's Covermount Live CDThe September 2013 issue of Rock Hard magazine will include an exclusive live CD (recorded at Rock Hard Festival) that will be not available in record stores. "Archives - Best Of 2007-2012" is the follow-up to many outstanding recordings Rock Hard released with the magazine (KREATOR, OPETH, OVERKILL, various compilations) and features some of the finest names in metal.
Says Rock Hard publisher Holger Stratmann, who is responsible for the CD production: "I‘ve been trying to select a good mixture of classic and brand new artists.
"The songs are all well-performed festival highlights and we have been trying very hard to get the best possible sound for our anniversary issue. Besides that, I can only hope the compilation will be considered 'tasty.'"
Adds OVERKILL bassist D.D. Verni: "I think Rock Hard Festival is the best in the world. We have been to a lot of them and I really enjoy them all, but Rock Hard is just the right size, where it feels like a club show in a way. The fans that come there are always totally psyched and ready for a great show. They remind me in a way of New York sports fans. They are smart.
"Some festivals, you get a lot of curiosity seekers, or just people who want to party, and that's cool. But at the Rock Hard festival, there are always real fans of music! And beer drinkers, of course. You can feel the buzz from the crowd, so I genuinely look forward to it each time we play."
"Archives - Best Of 2007-2012" track listing:
01. JON OLIVA - "City Beneath The Surface/Sirens"02. OVERKILL - "Hello From The Gutter"03. DOWN - "New Orleans Is A Dying Whore"04. ENSLAVED - "Fusion Of Sense And Earth"05. DREGEN Will Not Tour With MICHAEL MONROE This FallBACKYARD BABIES and MICHAEL MONROE guitarist Dregen (real name: Andreas Tyrone Svensson) will not be touring with the former HANOI ROCKS singer for the remainder of the year so that Dregen can focus on promoting his debut solo album, available now in Sweden via Universal Music.
Says Dregen: "I was part of making two damn good rock n' roll records at the same time. Both records are too good not to tour them and neiter Michael Monroe or me will disappoint our fans! The fantastic guitarist Rich Jones will temporarily fill in for me [on the road with Monroe].
"Please try to catch a show with both Dregen and Michael Monroe this autumn! They will both rock. And roll."
Michael Monroe's new album, "Horns And Halos", was certified gold in Finland for sales in excess of 10,000 copies within the first week of the CD's release.
Released on August 27 via Spinefarm Records, "Horns And Halos" is the follow-up to the 2011 critically acclaimed "Sensory Overdrive", winner of Classic Rock magazine's "Album Of The Year" and a No. 1 record in Monroe's Finnish homeland.
The official video for Dregen's first solo single, "Just Like That", can be seen below. The song received its world premiere on August 10 on Swedish national radio P3. It was then released on August 14.
Produced by Dregen and Pär Wiksten (THE WANNADIES), Dregen's first solo venture in a 25-year career that has seen him at the core of such internationally acclaimed acts as BACKYARD BABIES and THE HELLACOPTERS features all new material, and is a contemporary and inventive distillation of the Stockholm-based guitarist's far-reaching record collection.
Recorded for the most part in Pär Wiksten's Hospital1 studio in Stockholm, with mixing handled by Michael Ilbert at the legendary Hansa Tonstudio in Berlin, these 10 tracks come in a variety of hues and colours, moods and textures, veering from hard-hitting blues ("Flat Tyre On a Muddy Road"), through sinewy, snake-hipped funk ("6-10") and onto kool, KISS-inspired strut 'n' roll ("Mojo's Gone").
BACKYARD BABIES announced in November 2009 that they were going on an indefinite hiatus after completing a European tour. 2

SYLOSIS Frontman: 'In Car-Accident Terms, We're Alright'British metallers SYLOSIS have been forced to drop off their North American tour with TRIVIUM, DEVILDRIVER and AFTER THE BURIAL after being involved in a serious RV accident Tuesday night on their way to a show in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
In a posting on the band's Facebook page, SYLOSIS guitarist/vocalist Josh Middleton writes: "Myself, Rob [Callard, drums] and [Alex] Bailey [rhythm guitar] have just been released after over ten hours in hospital. Carl [Parnell, bass] is being kept in overnight as he's in too much pain to walk but should hopefully be released tomorrow morning (Montreal time) once some of his muscle pain/swelling has subsided.
"All four of us and our driver were hospitalized, but seeing as Bailey was the only one who didn't get taken in on a stretcher and a neck brace, he wasn't treated as urgently. He's just had his back sewn up and is off to the scrap yard where the RV was taken to get people's clothes and some personal items — hero.
"We're all very lucky. We've mostly just been stitched up (my eyebrow, a few on Carl's legs and Bailey's back), badly bruised and what feels like full-body whiplash.
"In car-accident terms, we're alright, but in general terms we're not physically capable of continuing on with the tour and aim to get back to our families and friends [as soon as possible] to recover.
"We want to thank the paramedics, the passersby who came to our help, the staff at the hospital and all of the fans and bands that have wished us well. It means the world to us."

SATYRICON: 'The Infinity Of Time And Space' Lyric Video ReleasedThe official lyric video for the song "The Infinity Of Time And Space" from Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON can be seen below. The track comes off the band's new, self-titled album, which sold around 1,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. This is roughly in line with the opening-week performance of the band's previous CD, "The Age of Nero", which premiered with 1,700 units back in November 2008.
"Satyricon" debuted at position No. 1 on the official chart in the band's home country — the first time one of the group's releases has topped the chart in Norway. "Satyricon" has also seen success internationally, debuting at No. 6 in Finland, No. 23 in Germany and No. 26 in Austria. By comparison, SATYRICON's previous studio album, "2008'a "The Age Of Nero", entered the chart at No. 5 in Norway and No. 73 in Germany.
Comments SATYRICON vocalist Sigurd "Satyr" Wongraven: "SATYRICON fans have shown that there is still room for authentic music with an analog sound. They have shown it to the degree that it has given us formidable chart positions in very competitive European markets and in Norway a Number 1 record. It is the most important record that we have done and now our fans are clearly sending out a very strong message by getting behind it. We are very thankful and proud."
"Satyricon" was recorded in Norway between January and May 2013 and was produced by Satyr. Mixing took place in Seattle by Adam Kasper and Satyr.
Speaking to Noisecreep at this year's Inferno festival, Satyr stated about SATYRICON's new album: "To me, it sounds very authentic, it's organic-sounding. And in this digital age where music is mostly played through computers, a lot of that analog vibe gets lost in translation when you play music through medias like that, but I still wanna do it because there's nothing quite like it. To me, it just makes everything sound the way it's supposed to sound — it's dynamical; the music is alive, it's not overly compressed, the levels are not pushed. So, musically speaking, it's a very atmospheric record… This record is full of life. There are a lot of surprises here, but I think it's gonna be a record that's gonna help the black metal movement perhaps find a new way for the future." 11

IMPENDING DOOM To Release 'Death Will Reign' In NovemberSouthern California juggernauts IMPENDING DOOM will release their new album, "Death Will Reign", on November 5 via eOne Music. Recorded, produced and mixed by Will Putney at The Machine Shop (SUICIDE SILENCE, LAMB OF GOD), this is the band's most ferocious material to date.
"IMPENDING DOOM have never sounded uglier and more desperate than on 'Death Will Reign'," says Alternative Press.
IMPENDING DOOM has crafted a stunning, deliberate and unrelenting collection with a sense of purpose, drive and continuity. "Death Will Reign" is the culmination of all that has come before, mining the bleak darkness and "scare" factor of last year's "Baptized in Filth" and the dynamic fury of "There Will Be Violence" and "The Serpent Servant". All of those elements are injected with the return of the gritty rawness found within the unpolished grind of "Nailed. Dead. Risen", IMPENDING DOOM's squealing cult-classic debut that introduced the world to their unique combination of reverent worship and sick gore-core, dubbed Goreship. "We wanted this album to sound very natural and unpolished," explains IMPENDING DOOM's longtime bassist David Sittig, a part of the lineup since before the first album's release. "There's no crazy digital stuff. There are no fake drums. We wanted it to have the feel of our first album with the songwriting from the last one. We've gotten better at song structures and so forth over the years, but we wanted to recapture that old-school vibe, too."
IMPENDING DOOM's fourth full-length album, "Baptized In Filth", sold 4,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 106 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released on March 13, 2012, the CD was produced by Andreas Magnusson (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, THE FAMINE) and was mixed by Machine, who has previously worked with LAMB OF GOD, SUICIDE SILENCE and DEMON HUNTER, among others.

SLIPKNOT Drummer's SCAR THE MARTYR: Entire Debut Album Available For StreamingThe self-titled debut album from SCAR THE MARTYR, the new band led by SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison, is available for streaming in its entirety at relics.scarthemartyr.com. The CD will be released on October 1 via Roadrunner Records.
Recorded at Sound Farm Studios in Des Moines, Iowa, SCAR THE MARTYR's album was helmed by Rhys Fulber, whose production and mixing credits include FEAR FACTORY, ROB ZOMBIE, MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY and more. The CD was written by Joey and lead vocalist Henry Derek Bonner (BLOOD PROMISE), and joining them in the studio were keyboardist Chris Vrenna (NINE INCH NAILS), as well as Simon and Norris, who collectively handled all lead guitars on the album.
"Scar The Martyr" track listing:
01. Intro02. Blood Host03. My Retribution04. Soul Disintegration05. Cruel Ocean06. Dark Ages07. Sign Of The Omeneye08. Anatomy Of Erinyes09. Prayer For Prey10. White Nights In A Day Room11. Effigy Unborn12. Never Forgive Never Forget13. Mind’s Eye14. Last Night On Earth
Bonus tracks:
01. Flatline & Fracture02. Digging For Truth03. Coat Of Arms04. Complications
SCAR THE MARTYR was recently on the road as the support act for DANZIG on a North American tour which also included performances by former MISFITS guitarist Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein and HUNTRESS. The trek kicked off August 9 at Sound Academy in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and wrapped up on August 31 at Tempe, Arizona's Marquee Theatre.
In addition to Jordison, SCAR THE MARTYR's lineup for the tour featured singer Henry Derek Bonner (BLOOD PROMISE), guitarists Jed Simon (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD) and Kris Norris (DARKEST HOUR), keyboardist Joey Blush and bassist Kyle Konkiel (IN THIS MOMENT).
"With this project, I focused my efforts on writing for the better of the song," said Jordison. "I wasn't worried about flash or persona... It's all about writing a good solid song. I'm writing music that people can grasp and hold on to...something that resonates. If you don't have that, then you have nothing."
"I'd been working on new SLIPKNOT material since the end of the 'All Hope Is Gone' tour cycle, but I ended up with so much stuff I had to take a step back and stop working on it," he explained to Metal Hammer magazine. "The time wasn't right. But I came up with a bunch of material that was really killer and heavy and started taking some of it in a different direction. I started focusing on a lot of the post-punk and industrial stuff that I've always loved and started putting super heavy and brutal guitars over the top of it. That's how it started. It's taken me a couple of years to get to this point, but I can honestly say this is the most satisfied I've ever been in the studio. I can't wait for everyone to hear this shit."
SCAR THE MARTYR will support ALICE IN CHAINS on their U.K. tour in November.
