VOIVOD: 'Target Earth' Video Released"Target Earth", the video for the title track of the new album from Canadian progressive metal pioneers VOIVOD, can be seen below. The clip, created by Italian filmmaker and multimedia artist Nicola Piovesan, recreates in 3D motion graphics the visions and artwork of VOIVOD drummer Michel "Away" Langevin.
Comments Langevin: "I met Nicola Piovesan at the VOIVOD/UNKIND show in Helsinki on October 31, 2012. We had a discussion about my 3D graphics for the album 'Negatron' and Nicola mentioned the possibility of him doing a 3D motion video for our new album, 'Target Earth'. After viewing his fantastic video for 'The Core' by the band ON|OFF|MAN, we knew he was the right person to capture the cyber world of VOIVOD. To us, the result is simply spectacular!"
Check out stills from the video at this location.
Nicola Piovesan (aka: chaosmonger) is an Italian filmmaker and multimedia artist living in Finland. He was born in April 1979 in Venice and moved to Bologna in 1999 where he graduated in cinema in 2004. Piovesan started making videos in 2001, and they have been screened in about 70 festivals worldwide to-date, winning more than 30 awards. He has worked as a freelance since 2005, collaborating with various production houses and private clients to produce independent short films, documentaries, music videos, and much more. In 2008 he also started teaching cinema in a high school in Como, which resulted in him moving to Milan. In the fall of 2011, Piovesan stopped teaching and moved to Helsinki, Finland where he currently lives, continuing his work as a filmmaker and visual artist.
VOIVOD's new album, "Target Earth", sold around 1,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD was issued on January 22 via the band's own company, Iron Gang Factory, and Century Media.
VOIVOD's previous album, "Infini", opened with around 840 units back in July 2009.
"Target Earth" was recorded in early 2012 at Pierre Rémillard's (OBLIVEON, CRYPTOPSY, KRISIUN, MISERY INDEX) Wild Studio in a small town called St-Zénon in Quebec, Canada and was mixed by Sanford Parker (PELICAN, NACHTMYSTIUM). The follow-up to 2009's "Infini" contains the band's first music to be written with guitarist Dan Mongrain (MARTYR) following the passing of original axeman Denis "Piggy" D'Amour in 2005. The original art was once again drawn by drummer Michel "Away" Langevin and features color schemes from each one of the band's previous albums. 4

WATAIN: New Song 'The Child Must Die' Available For Streaming"The Child Must Die", a brand new song from Swedish black metallers WATAIN, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. The track comes off the band's new album, "The Wild Hunt", which will be released on August 19 in Europe and August 20 in USA via the band's own label His Master's Noise through Century Media Records.
Produced once again by Tore Stjerna at his Necromorbus studio in Alvik, Sweden, "The Wild Hunt" is a sonic and lyrical tour-de-force that explores WATAIN's roots, such as BATHORY and DISSECTION, while also remaining truly unique. Having lost none of their integrity, WATAIN continues to push the boundaries of the scene with their fifth full-length, refusing to compromise their sound and vision. Amid the tracks teeming with the band's classic sound, "The Wild Hunt" also features clean vocals (a first for the trio!) which, as frontman Erik Danielsson puts it, "is just us being brutally personal and honest. It shows another important facet of the WATAIN world."
Executed in oil and mixed materials, the cover of "The Wild Hunt" was created by Zbigniew M Bielak, the very same artist who was responsible for the "Lawless Darkness" artwork. The piece depicts one of the inmost shrines of WATAIN's temple. As on every classic still life, each object has a significant meaning, while each song of the album is also connected to an object.
"The Wild Hunt" will be released worldwide in the following formats (see below for product details and availability):

SOULFLY: Performance Footage Of New Song AvailableFan-filmed video footage of SOULFLY performing a new song, "Bloodshed", on July 7 at L'Atabal in Biarritz, France can be seen below. The track will appear on the band's ninth album, "Savages", which will be released in October via SOULFLY's new label home, Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The CD was produced by Terry Date, who is known for his work with such acts as PANTERA, DEFTONES and SOUNDGARDEN, among many others.
Date previously mixed SOULFLY's "3" (2002), "Prophecy" (2004) and "Dark Ages" (2005) albums, but has never produced any of the group's CDs.
The drum tracks on the new SOULFLY CD were laid down by Max's 21-year-old son, Zyon Cavalera, who joined the band as its touring drummer for its recent rampage through North America.
Zyon previously played with SOULFLY during the band's tour of Brazil in February 2012.
It is Zyon's unborn heartbeat that can be heard during the intro of SEPULTURA's classic song "Refuse/Resist", which appeared on the band's RIAA-gold-certified "Chaos A.D." album, released three years before Max's departure from the group.
Drummer David Kinkade (BORKNAGAR, ARSIS, MALEVOLENT CREATION), who played on SOULFLY's eighth album, "Enslaved", left the band last October in order to focus on his personal life. 5

Lyric Video For ROB ZOMBIE's Cover Version Of GRAND FUNK RAILROAD's 'We're An American Band'The official lyric video for Rob Zombie's cover version of GRAND FUNK RAILROAD's classic "We're An American Band" can be seen below.
Asked how they decided to cover "We're An American Band" for Zombie's latest album, "Venomous Rat Generation Vendor", Zombie guitarist John 5 told Live-Metal.net: "We were thinking about covers, and I can picture me and Rob talking about this. I was like, 'Yeah, what if we did this one or this one?' We were going back and forth for a little while, and Rob goes, 'Man, 'We're an American band.' And I was like, 'That's it. We have to do it, we have to do it.' And a cool part of that song is, in the original, there's a lyric that goes, 'Up all night with Freddie King, poker is his thing;' in the Rob Zombie version, it says, 'Up all night with Kerry King.' We kind of snuck that in, so the next time you listen to it, listen for Kerry King's name."
Rob Zombie's fifth album, "Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor", sold 34,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 7 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record arrived in stores on April 23 via Zodiac Swan/T-Boy/Ume. The CD was produced by Bob Marlette, who has previously worked with everyone from BLACK SABBATH and ALICE COOPER to WILSON PHILLIPS and LYNYRD SKYNYRD.
Zombie told Artist Direct in an interview that "Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor" could one day make it to the big screen as a Zombie-directed film. The rocker and filmmaker explained, "I think it could. I made it with that in mind. At least in my mind — no one else knows this — I wanted to have a storyline that runs through the record so if someday I wanted to make it into a movie musical like THE WHO's 'Tommy' or 'Quadrophenia', there was a structure to follow. I'm not really talking about what it is because I think it's sort of relevant at this point."
Zombie and FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH are headlining the 2013 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, which kicked off on June 29 in San Bernardino, California. 3

LORDI: Pro-Shot Footage Of Entire HELLFEST ConcertProfessionally filmed video footage of LORDI's June 23 performance at Hellfest in Clisson, France can be seen below.
LORDI's new album, "To Beast Or Not To Beast", was released on March 1 in Europe (excluding Finland) via AFM Records. The CD was made available in North America on March 19 through The End Records.
"To Beast Or Not To Beast" registered the following first-week chart positions:
Finland: #8
Germany: #56
Switzerland: # 95
"To Beast Or Not To Beast" was recorded last fall at WireWorld Studio in Nashville, Tennessee with renowned producer Michael Wagener (METALLICA, OZZY OSBOURNE, SKID ROW, DOKKEN, RAVEN, MEGADETH). The CD marks the recording debut of LORDI's new members, keyboardist Hella (replacing Awa) and drummer Mana (replacing Otus).
"The road to this album has truly been paved by hardships," LORDI leader Mr. Lordi says. "However, the new lineup of the band has given us new and fresh touch and an energetic edge to the recording process, and to the album itself."
He added: "The album cover painting is actually a part of a larger picture. The original artwork had this vintage-styled lady holding a horned skull, which, however, was not the main point of the art piece. There was something not quite right with the setting, so I made experiments with various versions and framings. Album title was 'Upgradead' at that point in time, and the painting was done with that title in mind. But now, with a changed concept of the artwork, the title did not seem to fit anymore. We did not consider it an A-class name either. Our guitarist Amen came up with the final title, which we felt suitable and perfect both for the cover artwork and the album."
"To Beast Or Not To Beast" track listing:
01. We're Not Bad For The Kids (We're Worse)
02. I Luv Ugly
03. The Riff
04. Something Wicked This Way Comes
05. I'm The Best
06. Horrifiction
07. Happy New Fear
08. Schizo Doll
09. Candy For The Cannibal
10. Sincerely With Love
11. SCG6: Otus' Butcher Clinic
LORDI previously worked with Wagener on 2010's "Babez For Breakfast", which sold around 1,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 43 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

The band's 2009 effort, the epic concept album "American Soldier", premiered with 21,000 copies to debut at No. 25. This was roughly half the first-week tally registered by QUEENSRŸCHE's "Operation: Mindcrime II" album, which shifted 44,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release back in April 2006 to land at No. 14 on The Billboard 200 chart.

QUEENSRŸCHE's top-selling album by far is 1990's "Empire", which was certified triple-platinum in October 1994 for sales in excess of three million copies in the United States. The original "Operation: Mindcrime" release (1988) attained platinum status in August 1991, while 1994's "Promised Land" reached the same plateau in December 1994.
"Queensrÿche" marks the debut release from the lineup comprised of La Torre (vocals; ex-CRIMSON GLORY), Michael Wilton (guitar), Parker Lundgren (guitar), Eddie Jackson (bass) and Scott Rockenfield (drums). The drums for the album were recorded at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, Washington with producer James "Jimbo" Barton — the man who engineered and mixed the band's classic 1988 LP, "Operation: Mindcrime", and its 1990 follow-up, "Empire", and co-produced 1994's "Promised Land". The rest of the music and vocals were laid down at several different facilities on the West Coast. The cover artwork was created by Craig Howell, who has previously worked on designs for "Star Wars", SLIPKNOT and "American Idol", to name a few.

MACHINE HEAD: Fan-Filmed Video Footage Of Mansfield ConcertFan-filmed video footage of MACHINE HEAD's July 16 performance at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts as part of this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival can be seen below.
Bassist Jared MacEachern (pictured below) made his live debut with MACHINE HEAD on June 24 in Spokane, Washington.
Some fans might remember MacEachern from MACHINE HEAD's 2007 "The Black Tyranny" tour, on which he performed with his previous band, SANCTITY. MACHINE HEAD, challenged to find a fill-in bass player for the North American tour after an injury sidelined their then-four-stringer Adam Duce, also found themselves in need of someone to sing harmony with singer/guitarist Robb Flynn.
Earlier this year, MACHINE HEAD conducted an extensive search for candidates through various channels, the most fruitful of which proved to be video submissions. Sifting through more than 400 videos, the band personally reviewed and evaluated everyone's performances, including MacEachern, who made the short list without a second thought.
After reviewing all of the submissions, the band narrowed down the 400-plus candidates to a short list of seven, each of whom took a trip to Oakland to perform a handful of songs in person and spend the day hanging with the band.
Frontman Robb Flynn reflected: "We really wanted a guy that was hungry for this, someone who could live and breathe this with us. Dave [McClain, drums] would joke around that we didn't want to get someone too green that'd be, like, 'Oh my god, is this a dressing room?!', but we also didn't want someone who was too jaded by the whole thing and 'been there done that.' We thought the perfect guy would be someone who'd paid some dues, who had done nine or ten crummy van tours, and wasn't broken by that, but inspired to keep going and play music, and in many ways that was Jared. I mean, hell, the guy's only rode in a bus for two nights, one of which was with us! It brings a really cool level of appreciation to the table, and it shows where his heart's at." 1

LINGUA MORTIS ORCHESTRA: Video Footage Of MASTERS OF ROCK PerformanceFan-filmed video footage of LINGUA MORTIS ORCHESTRA's July 12 performance at the Masters Of Rock festival in Vizovice, Czech Republic can be seen below.
On Friday, August 2, LINGUA MORTIS ORCHESTRA will release its new album titled "LMO". The three RAGE musicians — Victor Smolski (guitar), Peavy Wagner (vocals and bass) and André Hilgers (drums) — worked at full stretch to finish their opulent orchestral project that can be considered a continuation of 1996's "Lingua Mortis" album, back then a true piece of pioneering work.
The entire album was composed by Victor Smolski, who cooperated with two orchestras from Spain and Russia, enlarging the number of this mammoth project's participants to more than 100. Together with longtime co-producer Charlie Bauerfeind (BLIND GUARDIAN, HAMMERFALL), Victor Smolski produced and mixed the record in Twilight Hall Studio in Krefeld, Germany.
"LMO" follows an exciting concept on the burning of witches in Gelnhausen in 1599, written by vocalist Peavy Wagner and based on a true story. Apart from the three RAGE musicians, two female vocalists belong to LINGUA MORTIS ORCHESTRA's regular cast: Jeannette Marchewka and soprano singer Dana Harnge. Guest vocals were contributed by Henning Basse (ex-METALLIUM), among others.
"LMO" track listing:
01. Cleansed By Fire
a) Convert The Pagans Pt. 1
b) The Inquisition (instrumental)
c) Convert The Pagans Pt. 2
02. Scapegoat
03. The Devil's Bride
04. Lament
05. Oremus (instrumental)
06. Witches' Judge
07. Eye For An Eye
08. Afterglow
The cover artwork was created by Felipe Machado Franco who's also been responsible for the latest RAGE artwork, "21". The band photos were shot by Pia Kintrup.
On May 4, a rough mix of "LMO" was presented to a group of international journalists. Journalist Martin Stark of Germany's Rock It magazine describes the record as an "opulent metal opera, more orchestral than anything else, partly heavier than RAGE and melodic beyond my wildest dreams from end to end." Guitar editor Nico Ernst states: "Never before has the combination of band and orchestra worked that well." Metal.de writer Florian Schörg takes the thought further and judges: "The perfect symbiosis of two worlds sparkles with both fantastic melodies and heaviness. The gigantic spectrum of emotions can be considered the cream topping on this extraordinarily delicious sound cocktail." 2

VARG VIKERNES' Former Lawyer Says Evidence Is 'Thin' In Case Against BURZUM MastermindVarg Vikernes' former defense attorney says that there is very little legal basis for the BURZUM leader's arrest in France on suspicion of planning "a large terrorist act."
Vikerenes, 40, who has been living in France for the past three years, was taken into custody Tuesday morning (July 16), along with his French wife, Marie Cachet, as a preventive measure after Vikernes posted aggressive racist, xenophobic and anti-Semitic comments on Internet forums. The couple's home was searched and five guns were found, including four rifles legally purchased by Varg's wife as a member of a rifle club.
"This person, who has close ties to the neo-Nazi movement, poses a potential threat to society, which he has shown through his expressions on the Internet," French Interior Minister Manuel Valls told reporters.
"His wife had recently acquired four guns. The investigation will include establishing the terms of such purchases, and their real goal."
Vikernes' former lawyer in Norway, John Christian Elden, said the musician "has expressed extreme views on race mixing for several years, built on Norse teachings."
According to the French news bureau AFP, Vikernes had been under police surveillance for many years, but it was only when his wife acquired weapons that police started a formal investigation.
Elden, who said that Vikernes has not contacted him since being detained by French police on Tuesday, stated that the musician's arrest appears to have been carried out in part because Vikernes was one 530 supporters to have received the manifesto of Anders Breivik, the man responsible for the July 2011 bomb attack in central Oslo, Norway and shooting rampage in Utøya island that resulted in the deaths of 77 people. In addition, Vikernes' blogs, which include extreme expressions of opinion, and the fact that his wife had bought weapons contributed to the police's decision to arrest the pair. "It's less than what Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) tend to have every time they arrest Islamists in Norway and release them a short time later," Elden said.
French police can hold suspects in terrorism cases for up to 96 hours before bringing preliminary charges.
In 2011, Vikernes called for the French to vote for the National Front (FN), writing on his official web site that doing so would be the only way to avoid the scourge of mass immigration.
In the open letter, entitled "Dear France," he said: "Your parents may induce you into a vote other than for the FN, but do not listen. They are responsible for the plight of today’s France, because they were too ignorant and too loose, or too brainwashed, to do as they should. They have already proved to the world that they have failed and betrayed France."
Varg was convicted in 1994 and sentenced to Norway's longest prison term of 21 years for the August 1993 murder of MAYHEM guitarist Oystein Aarseth (a.k.a. Euronymous) and for burning down three churches, including the original Holmenkollen Chapel next to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump in Oslo. He was released from prison in 2009 after serving 16 years of that sentence.
Vikernes wrote on his blog that he was "forced out of Norway by greedy lawyers" who claimed he owed their clients money. 51

Video: DAVID DRAIMAN Joins MEGADETH For Live Debut Of 'Dance In The Rain'David Draiman (DISTURBED, DEVICE) joined MEGADETH on stage this past Saturday night (July 13) in Lubbock, Texas to contribute guest vocals on MEGADETH's song "Dance In The Rain" from the album "Super Collider". This was the first time MEGADETH played the track live. After the show, MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson called Draiman's performance "powerful and amazing, as you would expect from David Draiman."
Fan-filmed video footage of the "Dance In The Rain" debut from the Lubbock concert can be seen below.
In a recent interview with Loudwire, MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine stated about the band's collaboration with Draiman on "Super Collider": "Well, David had come out to the studio and we looked at four different songs and his ideas were all great but some of them made MEGADETH sound more like DISTURBED or DEVICE and it wasn't really a suggestion I could pull off. It would sound like me trying to be like David. But there were a couple moments where he did something and I would be like, 'Ooh, I like that,' and one of them was the little whispering part in 'Forget To Remember'. Right before the choruses, there's kind of a scat, adlib kind of thing and I never really did that kind of stuff. Then the chorus for 'Dance In The Rain', he and I came up with a melody for the chorus which I thought was a risk for me, because I don't sing and hold notes for very long — I'll do a bunch of different notes, because I don't have a huge lung capacity from my years of smoking as much as I did. I'm not going to tell people not to smoke, but man, if I had to do it over again, I never would have done it, because it affects my singing. We were just in Switzerland, and God, talk about needing an iron lung, but I digress.
"Dave lives out in Austin and I hooked up with him out there because we had talked about him doing Gigantour with us, and I love his new project. We had dinner, went over to his house and he wanted to show me some band he produce,d and I like TRIVIUM, so I listened to it and he plays his new DEVICE stuff, and I'm like, 'Do it, Dave. Do it. Go and ask him. Don't be a chicken.' And so I'm like, 'What do you think about singing on 'Dance In The Rain'?' and he goes [in his best Draiman voice] 'I would be delighted. It would be an honor.'
"I had told him that I was changing one word because one word has the power of changing the interpretation of something. People are so obsessed with everything I say right now, trying to dissect it and turn it into something awful and so I was just taking a look at how I'm wording stuff. The implication is still there, but it can't be misinterpreted. I told him about it and he re-sang it and I loved his part.
"The ending of 'Dance In The Rain', I wanted to give the impression that all hell has broken loose and we're living in that Orwellian kind of future where we're being told what to do with all intensive purpose with all the monitoring and everything that's going on it's looking like that's happening. I had done the part that he sang and I liked it, it was good enough, but when he did it, it just took on a whole new character and it was cool because I just pictured Dave in his normal vibe. If that song connects with the public and ends up being a video, I can imagine his participation, and I'm sure he'll be just as great visually as he is vocally. 2

Video: PEARL JAM Performs New Single 'Mind Your Manners' Live For First TimePEARL JAM played its new single, "Mind Your Manners", live for the first time last night (Tuesday, July 16) at Budweiser Gardens in London, Ontario, Canada. Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.
According to The Pulse Of Radio, PEARL JAM has revealed that its new album is titled "Lightning Bolt" and will be released on October 15 in the U.S. In addition to confirming the new album info, the band has released "Mind Your Manners", which is available for download on PearlJam.com and can be heard now at rock radio stations. The group has yet to unveil the full track list for the disc, which is its 10th studio album.
Guitarist Mike McCready was asked a while back how PEARL JAM has managed to stay together for more than 20 years. "With a lot of careful effort and talking to each other, I think, and hopefully having as clear lines of communication between each other as possible," he said. "I think we take the time to want to find solutions for the stuff that goes on in our band, if there's issues and problems and things, 'cause I think we love each other, and I know we love each other, and I know I love playing music with these guys."
The album can now be pre-ordered at the band's website and iTunes.
PEARL JAM has been working on the new disc since 2011. It follows up 2009's "Backspacer".
The news about the record was broken after a second countdown clock at the PEARL JAM web site hit zero on Thursday (July 11). A previous countdown clock led to the announcement of a North American tour.
That trek will begin on October 11 in Pittsburgh and wind down on December 6 in the band's hometown of Seattle. 1

CHEAP THRILL Featuring CINDERELLA Members: Las Vegas Concert Footage AvailableCHEAP THRILL, the new band featuring CINDERELLA bassist Eric Brittingham and guitarist Jeff LaBar alongside vocalist/guitarist Brandon Gibbs (formerly of THE GIBBS BROTHERS) and drummer Troy Patrick Farrell (WHITE LION, GILBY CLARKE), performed this past Friday, July 12 Count's Vamp'd in Las Vegas, Nevada. Video footage of the concert can be seen below.
CHEAP THRILL brings you a sound flavored with CINDERELLA tunes such as "Nobody's Fool", "Heartbreak Station" and "Hello Or Goodbye" from LaBar's soon-to-be-released CD, along with the newest song from Brandon's solo record, "This Town", which is currently featured on ESPN 2 for the NHRA season. This show is littered with popular covers and stadium rock songs.
When CINDERELLA isn't touring, Gibbs and Brittingham have always found themselves working together off and on over the last five years. With the recent addition of LaBar, the Nashville-based group CHEAP THRILL made its debut on the Monsters Of Rock cruise in March 2013, with two more rock and roll cruises immediately following.
Brittingham and LaBar are pumped about CHEAP THRILL and the opportunity to work together again and alongside Gibbs.
"Being able to transition from a three-piece acoustic show to a full band keeps the project fun and versatile," says Brittingham. "It's all about the music," adds Gibbs. "We have finetuned a product that will appeal to audiences of all ages."
In a recent interview with RockMusicStar, LaBar stated about CHEAP THRILL: "Brandon Gibb has been doing this for years with his brother. And Eric got involved with them a couple years ago and played bass for them, and they played as a trio. And Brandon called me about two months ago about joining up with them. He told me to learn three songs and we rehearsed a couple of times, and ever since we've been off to the races. We started out a few weeks ago in Florida, we played one acoustic set and then an electric set."
"We perform a few acoustic versions of CINDERELLA songs. It also has a bit of a modern music influence, because Brandon is a bit younger than Eric and me.
"When I joined this project, there was already a setlist. So, there are songs from the '90s and 2000s, as the setlist covers all decades. Since I joined, I brought in some songs that I enjoy singing, like some '70s songs such as PINK FLOYD and THE FACES. And the CINDERELLA songs that we do, have a bit of a country feel to them. But overall, Brandon also does his owns songs, we do some of my original songs, some CINDERELLA songs and some cool versions of some classic songs."
