HIGH PRIEST OF SATURN: Debut Album Due In MarchSvart Records has set a March 22 release date for HIGH PRIEST OF SATURN's self-titled debut.
Self-described as a psychedelic doom act inspired by classic stoner bands and '60s and '70s psychedelic rock, HIGH PRIEST OF SATURN is a Norwegian three-piece that consists of guitarist Martin Sivertsen and guitarist-drummer Andreas Hagen's slow-pounding riffs and beats and Merethe Heggset's eerie vocals, which seem to resonate from another dimension.
The entire "High Priest Of Saturn" opus is drenched with swirling, menacing vintage organ sounds, played on the album by Ole Kristian Malmedal. Groovy yet epic (none of the four tracks presented here are below the nine-minute mark!), HIGH PRIEST OF SATURN's debut full-length is a trip. Not only does it fulfill the many promises offered by their 2011 demo (whose two songs have been re-recorded here in even heavier and more mesmerizing versions), but it also propels this trio towards the same league as SLEEP and ACID KING, towards the sky and beyond.
"High Priest Of Saturn" track listing:
01. Protean Towers (10:30)
02. Kraken Mare (9:06)
03. Crawling King Snake (9:01)
04. On Mayda Insula (12:49)

JASON NEWSTED Says He Became Spiritually Rich From Meeting METALLICA FansKatherine Turman of The Village Voice recently conducted an interview with former METALLICA, VOIVOD and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM bassist and current NEWSTED frontman Jason Newsted. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
On NEWSTED's debut EP, "Metal":
Jason: "This was created because of the fans. I went to play the 30th reunion with METALLICA in December 2011, at the Fillmore (in San Francisco), and I got completely lit up by the fans. It was a fan-club operation, about 30 or 35 countries represented, all kinds of languages screaming at me. It made me want to come back to this. I'm doing it for them."
"I've played many different styles. With ECHOBRAIN (the side project that caused a schism within METALLICA), VOIVOD, GOV'T MULE, DJ SHADOW, all those different styles. There'd been mixed reactions as I reached out into those places, so when I come back with what I do best, the old-school metal, that's why it's getting the [positive] reaction it is."
On playing with Ozzy Osbourne in the bass slot once occupied by Robert Trujillo, who replaced Newsted in METALLICA:
Jason: "He called out a song that I hadn't rehearsed ever before, and I'm in front of 22,000 people. Ozzy screams out 'The Wizard'. He looks over at me. . . . But because I learned from BLACK SABBATH when there was only vinyl — needle back, needle back, needle back — it was all the way from my toes. I go: 'OK, how old am I? 16?' And there I was. I have posters still adhered to my bedroom wall in my room at my dad's house in Michigan — BLACK SABBATH. I saw them this Christmas. When the guy that taught you to play metal asks you to be in his band, it's a surreal experience."
On his relationship with the fans while he was in METALLICA:
Jason: "Everybody assumed their roles in METALLICA. James [Hetfield] was the songwriter, Lars was the business guy, Kirk [Hammett] was the artist, and I was the people person. I always was pushed out front — because no one else wanted to do it at the time — with fans and also the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the cancer kids. That was my bag: traveling across the country, across the world, to do some of these things on METALLICA's behalf. Little did [METALLICA] know that they were the ones missing out. But because I was the ambassador for the band, I became [spiritually] rich from it."
On the NEWSTED song "Godsnake", in which he writes about remaining humble and nonjudgmental:
Jason: "In our society now, at least in North America, the encouragement in reality TV is to be judgmental. The biggest loser, the addict, the pregnant teen, judge, judge, judge. It's the exact opposite of what's supposed to happen to make this world go round."

Reactivated CRONIAN Working On New AlbumAndreas "Vintersorg" Hedlund (VINTERSORG, BORKNAGAR) and Øystein G. Brun (BORKNAGAR mastermind have relaunched CRONIAN and are currently finishing up the production of a new album.
Comments Brun: "Due to different reasons, CRONIAN went into hibernation after the release of 'Enterprise' in 2008. We had a tight time schedule and we had to make some priorities that forced us to keep CRONIAN on ice for some years. But the urge for doing another album has been haunting us ever since.
"Shortly after the release of BORKNAGAR's 'Urd' in February 2012, we decided to gather some musical and lyrical ideas to see where it would take us. So, during the last year we have been working quite intensely with new material and we are just now about to complete the production of the new album.
"The album has evolved to become something vastly greater than we ever dared to hope for; we have outdone our visions and in terms of the music and production it pretty much feels like a leap to a greater division. From our point of view, this album represents both the peak and the culmination of our musical careers combined. The album is grandiose, monumental, diverse, flavored, catchy, heavy, profound, progressive and unique in every aspect. There is simply no better way to put it!
"The cover for the new album is already done by the Brazilian visual artist Marcelo Vasco (also been working for SOULFLY, DIMMU BORGIR, BORKNAGAR, SATYRICON, etc.) and again he has proven to be the master of visual wizardry — no less!
"CRONIAN is currently unsigned but we are in dialogue with a couple of labels and hope settle things in order to get the album out by summer/early autumn 2013. So for the first time in both our — and joint — careers, we have been able to work under 100% autonomic and independent circumstances in our respective studios — and doing absolutely no compromises in terms of budgets, tight release schedules, supervising A&Rs and so forth. In other words, we have been aiming for perfection and we can't wait to get this bastard out! Songtitles, album title and the cover for the new album will be launched soon — so keep tuned!" 1

NORMA JEAN Completes Recording New AlbumAtlanta's NORMA JEAN has finished recording its new album for a late spring release. The CD was laid down at Covenant Recording studio in Kansas City, Missouri with producer Joshua Barber (YOUR MEMORIAL, HANDS).
NORMA JEAN frontman Cory Brandan previously stated about the band's new album: "We are looking at an 11- or 12-song track listing with a few left over for other special releases.
"We have been working very closely with producer/engineers Joshua Barber and Aaron Crawford. Awesome dudes with a lot of great ideas. They've definitely helped us push ourselves to do more with the record.
"We really like the idea of talking about the songs and all getting connected to them emotionally/psychologically. It's something we learned while working with Ross Robinson. It's a great way to get all of us on the same page and fused in a common vision, even though we may have different interpretations. We believe that if we all know what every song is about, then we WILL play the songs differently and with more passion.
"We spent almost two years writing this. We have definitely found so many ways to expand on what we've done before and progress into making something new. This is definitely something new, but don't misunderstand. It's heavy! We're metalheads! Born and raised."
NORMA JEAN's last album, "Meridional", sold 9,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 45 on The Billboard 200 chart.
The band's fourth CD, "The Anti Mother", opened with more than 16,000 copies back in August 2008 to land at No. 29.
"Meridional" was released on July 13, 2010 via Razor & Tie. 2

HALESTORM was nominated for the track "Love Bites (So Do I)" , from the band's 2012 album "The Strange Case Of…"
In his acceptance speech, HALESTORM drummer Arejay Hale said: "I've gotta thank my parents — our parents — for turning us on to great music. Most parents want their kids to be doctors and lawyers, and our parents encouraged us to join the circus. So thank you, guys."

Lzzy Hale told The Pulse Of Radio that the band was in its natural state — playing live onstage — when they got the news of their Grammy nomination in early December. "It was just in time for the piano ballad, so I'm just kind of sitting by myself and Joe [Hottinger, guitar] runs across the stage, he's like, 'We got nominated for a Grammy!'" she said. "And I'm like, I mean, I must have had at least 30 seconds of just pure, like, shock on my face. [laughs] 'Really? Are you serious?' I still can't wipe this stupid grin off my face, I'll tell you that. But it was a very cool moment for all of us."

SEVENDUST: Performance Footage Of New SongFan-filmed video footage of SEVENDUST performing a brand new song, "'Till Death", on February 5 at Chameleon Club in Lancaster, Pennsylvania can be seen below. The track comes off the band's ninth album, "Black Out The Sun", which will be released on March 26 via the band's 7Bros. Records label (through Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group). The CD was recorded at Architekt Music studios in Butler, New Jersey with engineer Mike Ferretti.
"Black Out The Sun" track listing:
01. Memory
02. Faithless
03. 'Till Death
04. Mountain
05. Cold As War
06. Black Out The Sun
07. Nobody Wants It
08. Dead Roses
09. Decay
10. Dark AM
11. Picture Perfect
12. Got A Feeling
13. Murder Bar
SEVENDUST filmed a video for the CD's first single, "Decay", last month, just before its current tour with LACUNA COIL kicked off on February 2 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
SEVENDUST drummer Morgan Rose tells Billboard.com that the song actually came from a riff left over from the "Cold Ray Memory" sessions.
"We were starting to get burnt and we didn't want to push it," Rose recalls. "So we had this riff, and we said, 'Let's jam it and see if anything comes of it.' And before you know it, it became a song that ends up on the record, and everybody listens to it and they end up picking that as the single, which was pretty cool."
The song "Murder Bar" was reportedly inspired by a Butler, New Jersey bar across from the hotel where SEVENDUST was staying while recording the new CD. Rumor had it the place was popular with many of New Jersey's murderers.
"It's a basic SEVENDUST record," guitarist Clint Lowery recently told "Source Of The Sound With Wendy Campbell". "There's nothing, like, too completely different than anything we've done before. It's got a darker vibe to it. We've got a good amount of the programming element in there. It's a lot of what we do — it's heavy and it's got its melodic element in it. So if you're a SEVENDUST fan, it's more along the lines of the second and third records we did — it's kind of like that. It's got a couple of throwback vibes to it. 'Animosity' and 'Home' [1999], if I can put those two records together, it would [sound similar to the new CD]."

Plea Deal Struck Over Attack On KISS Web SitesAccording to Thesmokinggun.com, a Connecticut man has pleaded guilty to participating in a coordinated online attack on Kiss frontman Gene Simmons, whose web sites were targeted in retaliation for comments the rock star made about Internet piracy.
The October 2010 denial of service attack against genesimmons.com and two other sites--which were knocked offline--was spearheaded by the online collective “Anonymous,” which dubbed its Simmons assault “Operation Payback.”
The musician, 63, upset “Anonymous” and its various sympathizers when he advised entertainment industry figures to “sue everybody, take their houses, their cars. The music industry was asleep at the wheel and didn't have the balls to sue every freckle-faced kid who downloaded tracks.”
The FBI opened a criminal probe after a Simmons lawyer, Barry Mallen, reported the denial of service attack to federal investigators.
During a hearing last week in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, Kevin George Poe, 25, pleaded guilty to his role in the Simmons attack.

Warner Music Pays $765 Million For ParlophoneAccording to Rolling Stone, Warner Music's $765 million purchase of the Parlophone record label, which includes the rights to catalogs by PINK FLOYD, COLDPLAY, RADIOHEAD and DAFT PUNK, gives the third-biggest record label a much-needed power boost with regard to rivals Universal and Sony. Warner is the smallest of the Big Three record labels, providing just 20 percent of overall album sales in 2012, according to Nielsen SoundScan, but Parlophone should significantly increase that number.
"This is a very important milestone for Warner Music, reflecting our commitment to artist development by strengthening our worldwide roster, global footprint and executive talent," Len Blavatnik, chairman and founder of Access Industries, Warner's parent company, said in a statement.
THE BEATLES' catalog, which belonged to Parlophone, was not part of the sale. 2

STEVEN TYLER To Appear At Senate Hearing On Invasion Of Privacy BillAccording to BroadwayWorld.com, AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler initiated — and is a proponent and vocal supporter of — Hawaii Senate Bill 465, also known as the Steven Tyler Act, which would create a civil cause of action for "constructive invasion of privacy" in the state of Hawaii.
The proposed bill (SB465) was modeled after the California Civil Code Section 1708.8, which was adopted by the California state legislature in 1998. SB465 would add a cause of action for constructive invasion of privacy in addition to the current cause of action for physical invasion of privacy in Hawaii. The bill, which would provide a legal remedy for celebrities photographed while they are engaged in "personal or familial activity" and have a reasonable expectation of privacy, would go beyond the more traditional invasion of privacy, which generally requires a physical trespass, by imposing liability on people who use zoom telephonic lenses or other high tech audio devices to capture images or audio of public figures as they are in their homes, or other private places, and then turn around and sell those images or audio files.
Tyler will appear with fellow Hawaii resident Mick Fleetwood on Friday, February 8 as the bill is presented in a Senate hearing at the State Capitol in Honolulu, Hawaii.
"The paradise of Hawaii is a magnet for celebrities who just want a peaceful vacation," Tyler says. "As a person in the public eye, I know the paparazzi are there and we have to accept that. But when they intrude into our private space, disregard our safety and the safety of others, that crosses a serious line that shouldn't be ignored."
The bill after it was drafted by Tyler's attorney and manager, Dina LaPolt, at his bequest and presented to Senator J. Kalani English (Hana, East & Upcountry Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe) for consideration. 3

THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN Frontman Discusses New Project With MAX CAVALERA, TROY SANDERSDuring a recent interview with AOL's Noisecreep, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN frontman Greg Puciato spoke about the status of his much-anticipated project with Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, ex-SEPULTURA), Dave Elitch (ex-THE MARS VOLTA) and Troy Sanders (MASTODON).
"We have 11 songs written," he said. "It's me, Max, Troy from MASTODON and Dave Elitch, who played drums in MARS VOLTA for a little bit. Here's how it started. We were at a DEFTONES show in L.A. at the Palladium and we were talking backstage about old thrash metal, punk and hardcore and we found ourselves referencing many of the same things and we were like, 'Fuck, man, we should make a record together and do it as a one-off like NAILBOMB [Max's mid-1990s side project with FUDGE TUNNEL's Alex Newport].' A month later, I talked to Max again and he said we should actually do that.
"No one in metal makes collaborative records like people in jazz and hip-hop do. It doesn't have to be like a band that you're launching from the ground that you go on tour with. There is something to be said for collaboration and throwing yourself out there and learning something new from working with different people. Dave was a buddy of mine already and he's a phenomenal drummer. He was the first person I thought of to play drums.
"We [DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN] spent a lot of time touring with MASTODON and Troy seemed like a really obvious fit. We had a really easy time writing and we may actually be recording really soon, like in the next month or so. And then we'll have to sit on it. We can't release it right behind the DILLINGER record and we also have to figure out when the MASTODON record is coming out and the same for whatever Max is doing next. It's going to come out. It's just going to be a matter of logistics as to when."
Speaking to Singapore's radio show "Vicious Volume" last October, Max stated about the new project: "Troy from MASTODON just joined the band, too, so now we've got three singers for the project, which is also really killer. I'm really excited about that, too. I think it's gonna be a very original project. I don't know any other metal projects out there with three people singing like this. So it can be almost like a TRANSPLANTS of metal. TRANSPLANTS had three singers; this also has three singers, and it can be very, very great. I'm following, in a lot of ways, some of the same footsteps as NAILMBOMB in my approach to this project — a lot of do-it-yourself, punk-rock kind of feeling to the project. So the songs are written really quick — I don't think too much about it. I like it more like that, so they are very raw." 6

Produced by Alwyn Walker, Resolution is a reflection of sheer perseverance and innovation, brimming with top-notch musicianship, well-crafted arrangements and inventive hooks. Merged with a rich audio production value, void of the sterile, homogeneous and plastic instrumentation factor, which currently dominates the commercial metal market, this debut album from one of Ireland’s noteworthy metal bands is a truly refreshing piece of work.
Drummer / Percussionist David McCann comments: "Our hope is to put our music out there, make it as accessible as possible, and simply let people discover it in their own time, free of charge. While we do respect the rights of other bands and artists who want to charge for their music upfront, we believe in this new method of exposure and it's something we are willing to explore for the foreseeable future in this digital age of abundance."
Chosen is now streaming and offering their rack 'Engines Of Belief' as a free download here. The track is streaming below:
