Ex-MEGADETH Guitarist CHRIS POLAND Guests On LION_DROME Single

Ex-MEGADETH Guitarist CHRIS POLAND Guests On LION_DROME Single

Guitarist extrordinaire Chris Poland (MEGADETH, DAMN THE MACHINE, OHM:) contributes a nearly 90-second outro solo to the extended version of alt-rockers LION_DROME's first single, "Curve Of The Earth". The track proceeds an expected full release by LION_DROME in 2013.

LION_DROME is a new project from lead guitarist Mike Lopez, a former member of GASHEAD, one of Colorado's premier thrash and instrumental bands which existed between 2003 and 2012. In 2010, GASHEAD released a single called "Skeletal", which also featured Poland's considerable talents.

LION_DROME sees Lopez continuing his lead duties but also stepping in on lead vocals for the first time. The project's musical direction is closer to the modern/alt rock of U2, JEFF BUCKLEY, PORCUPINE TREE, RADIOHEAD and THE CARS. Hard rock and metal sensibilities remain in the guitar solos, with nods to Joe Satriani, George Lynch, Jeff Beck and James Mankey (CONCRETE BLONDE).

THAUROROD Begins Recording New Album

THAUROROD Begins Recording New Album

Finnish/Swedish power metallers THAUROROD will enter Rockstar Productions studio in the band's hometown of Hyvinkää, Finland to start recording their new album for an early 2013 release.

Commented the band: "Finally the time has come! We are proud to announce that THAUROROD will enter the studio for drum recordings of second studio album today, 29th of November! The band is feeling stronger than ever! We have had pretty hectic rehearsel period over the last weeks and the songs sounds absolutely fucking mind-blowing!"

THAUROROD recently announced the addition of Swedish singer Andi Kravljaca (SILENT CALL, SEVENTH WONDER) to the group's ranks.

Commented the band: "We made two shows with Andi in Finland warming up for WINTERSUN and everything felt amazing and we had so much fun together! He easily impressed the band and the audiences with his energetic performances on both shows... what a crazy dude on stage!"

THAUROROD parted ways with Italian singer Michele Luppi in July. They attributed the split to the fact that Luppi "[didn't] have enough time for THAUROROD" and the group's desire to find someone who was "more motivated [and] who share[d] the same passion and hunger to go on with THAUROROD as the rest of the band."

THAUROROD's debut album, "Upon Haunted Battlefields", came out in Europe on September 24, 2010 via NoiseArt Records and Rock The Nation.

RUSH Leads Fan Voting For 2013 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

RUSH Leads Fan Voting For 2013 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

With about one week left to let fans' voices be heard for the first time on who deserves to get into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame next year, RUSH has pulled in nearly a quarter of the votes at 24.3%, followed by DEEP PURPLE at 17.1%. HEART is third with 12.4% of the votes cast.

Although the public vote could influence the outcome of who is inducted and who isn't, it will most likely be used only as a tie-breaker. The top five acts will comprise a "fan's ballot" that will count as one of the more than 600 ballots that determine the Class Of 2013. The results will be announced in mid-December.

RUSH has been eligible for the honor since 1999, 25 years after the release of the band's self-titled debut album.

"I'm really happy for the RUSH fans who feel that it is really important, and I hope we're inducted for their sake," RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson told NorthJersey.com. "Personally it never really mattered to me, but at the same time it's nice to be nominated."

According to Lifeson, the Rock Hall induction would pale in comparison to the band's having received one of the prestigious Governor General's Performing Arts Awards for Lifetime Artistic Achievement in March, the highest honor bestowed on artists by the Canadian government.

"The acknowledgement we got from the Canadian government, and by extension Canadians, is very dear to us," Lifeson said. "The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is more a popularity contest."

The April 18, 2013 event is set for Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, marking the first time the ceremony will be held in the city since 1993. HBO will tape the show for broadcast at a later date.

TESTAMENT Guitarist:

TESTAMENT Guitarist: 'When You're A Thrash Band, It's Not A Good Idea To Add Rap'

Matthew Parker of MusicRadar.com recently conducted an interview with guitarist Eric Peterson of San Francisco Bay Area metallers TESTAMENT. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

MusicRadar.com: 2012 marks the 25th anniversary of TESTAMENT's debut album, "The Legacy". What were your initial expectations of the band?

Eric: "[Initially], none. I just wanted to put a record out. Then when [second album, 1988's] 'The New Order', came out, we had a seven record deal with Atlantic Records and we just thought, 'If we can live out that term, that would be awesome. We were watching a lot bands around us fold on their second or third album. We realized how hard it was. The playing is the easy part, it's just everything in between — that's what breaks bands up. I don't think it's the music at all, it's the chemistry. It's dealing with all of the downtime in between the two hours you're onstage."

MusicRadar.com: What's the most important lesson you've learned in your years as a musician?

Eric: "Just being consistent and sticking to your blueprint. It's easy when other bands come into the scene that are like a whole new different style to go, 'I wanna be like that now!' But we have a following and we've got to be like, 'This is how we are!' It's very important that you stick to your guns. When you're a thrash band, it's not a good idea to add rap, or start wearing trippy clothes — the fans can see right through that crap."

MusicRadar.com: Alex Skolnick has been back with the band since 2005. Has the way you divide guitar duties changed over the years?

Eric: "The duties have changed a little bit. Alex is still the lead guitarist, but I'm starting to do a little more soloing now. As players, we've all grown a lot. Alex has got a lot of influences and it really, really shows in his playing. When you hear his leads, you know it's him. But when Alex left the band I started taking on more. The other guitar players that I jammed with, first Glenn Alvelais and then James Murphy, were all like, 'Dude! How come you don't play leads? You're killer!'"

MusicRadar.com: So that gave you the impetus to start developing your leads...

Eric: "It wasn't like that before. No one said to me, 'Play leads!' It was just 'Alex is the lead guitar player, you're the rhythm. This is how we're doing it.' When Alex came back I said, 'I'm not going to step on your toes — we're not going to fight for solos here — but it's just going to add more to it.' And he was like, 'Totally, dude! You should totally do that.' That was a real breathe of fresh air, because the old way would have been, 'Well, I'm the lead guitar player.' We've all grown up now and it's such a better band [for it]."

Video: Former WHITE LION Frontman Performs Solo Acoustic Concert In Sutton-In-Ashfield

Video: Former WHITE LION Frontman Performs Solo Acoustic Concert In Sutton-In-Ashfield

Fan-filmed video footage of former WHITE LION singer Mike Tramp 's November 22 solo acoustic performance at The Diamond in Sutton-in-Ashfield, United Kingdom can be seen below.

During an appearance at last month's Swedish metal convention Rockmässan in Malmö, Tramp stated about the possibility of a WHITE LION reunion, "WHITE LION is a combination of [original WHITE LION guitarist] Vito [Bratta] and I writing the songs together, and that's sort of how it comes out. But there's no chance in hell that that will ever happen, and it's all because of the feedback I get from Vito. And also, I'm not fighting to put WHITE LION back together. These days, when I go out and play the songs from WHITE LION, it's to give it to the fans who just wanna hear the songs that night. I try not, again, to call myself WHITE LION, but more like, 'Mike Tramp celebrating the songs of WHITE LION,' so you come to the club tonight and we'll just play the songs and enjoy the songs. But if I go out there with four new guys, I don't feel good calling it WHITE LION. I did it for a short time, and when I look back, I kind of almost regret it. I could have called it something else, because it's not WHITE LION."

Regarding WHITE LION's split, Tramp said: "We never got a chance to say goodbye to the fans. We never got a chance to make a statement to the press. … WHITE LION was playing the last show and Vito and I just went to the airport — I went to California and he went to New York — and we just said… We didn't even look at each other. And it wasn't that we were fighting. And the interesting thing… [People say] 'Well, why shouldn't you carry on?' [But we got] no call from the record company, no call from the managers, no call from the merchandising company… All these people were making millions of dollars off us. It's like we just disappeared. There was never any closing. So it's taken me many years to really understand what the fuck happened here."

Tramp recently completed work on a new solo album, to be released before the end of the year.

DEMONICA Taps Former SLAYER/TESTAMENT Drummer PAUL BOSTAPH For Sophomore Album

DEMONICA Taps Former SLAYER/TESTAMENT Drummer PAUL BOSTAPH For Sophomore Album

DEMONICA — the project featuring MERCYFUL FATE guitarist Hank Shermann alongside FORBIDDEN/SPIRALARMS axeman Craig Locicero — has tapped drummer Paul Bostaph (SLAYER, EXODUS, TESTAMENT, FORBIDDEN) for the band's sophomore album, which is expected to be recorded sometime in 2013.

"Hank is busy until March and he wants me to write the majority of the record with [bassist Marc] Grabowski and Paul," Locicero tells BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "I've started riffing. That's where it's at. I want Hank to contribute, so I'm taking it slow."

He adds, "For the next few months I'm really concentrating on SPIRALARMS. That's where my heart is."

DEMONICA made its "official" live debut on August 6, 2010 at Lakei in Helmond, The Netherlands. The band also played a "secret" show the night before in Copenhegen, Denmark.

DEMONICA in 2010 inked a North American deal with Giddy Up! Records. The band's debut album, "Demonstrous", was released domestically in June of that year. The CD, which was made available in Europe via Massacre Records, was recorded in the Bay Area, the Rocky Mountains and Copenhagen (Denmark), and was mixed at Flatline Audio in Denver, Colorado with Dave Otero (CEPHALIC CARNAGE, MARTRIDEN, COBALT).

Clips below were shot on August 6, 2010 at Lakei in Helmond, The Netherlands:

JASON MCMASTER

JASON MCMASTER's BROKEN TEETH Releases 'Devil On The Road' Single

BROKEN TEETH is the Austin-based hard rock quintet featuring DANGEROUS TOYS/WATCHTOWER vocalist Jason McMaster, has released a new single, "Devil On The Road", via all digital platforms, including CDBaby, iTunes and Amazon.

BROKEN TEETH is all about keeping real rock 'n' roll alive. The band, which is influenced by classic hard rock acts like AC/DC, ROSE TATTOO and THIN LIZZY, is comprised of McMaster, drummer Bruce Rivers, guitarists Jared Tuten and David Beeson, and, presently, bassist Robb Lampman (SKREW).

Travis Weiss, a founding member of Austin band DUKE — which recorded a new album last year with producer Paul Soroski (PODUNK) that is expected to be released on RockArmy Records sometime in 2013 — served as touring bassist for BROKEN TEETH over the past couple of years, and performed on the band's new single. Tragically, Weiss unexpectedly passed away in September, forcing both bands into temporary hiatus.

The release of "Devil On The Road" is both a tribute to Weiss — since it represents the final recording he made before his death — and a call to arms for BROKEN TEETH to continue carrying the flag for classic rock 'n' roll in Austin.

"Devil On The Road" is “the only song we have a recording of with Travis on bass, making it special to the band and to his family and fans," says McMaster, "and his loss was so sudden… we had just gotten off the road, and all of us — the band, his friends, his family — are still in shock."

BROKEN TEETH will donate a portion of the proceeds from all sales of "Devil On The Road" to Weiss' family.

A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH To Release Sophomore Album In The Spring

A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH To Release Sophomore Album In The Spring

A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH, the band featuring Brooklyn, New York native Sal Abruscato — who played drums on three TYPE O NEGATIVE albums ("Slow, Deep & Hard", "Origin Of The Feces", "Bloody Kisses"), as well as four LIFE OF AGONY releases ("River Runs Red", "Ugly", "River Runs Again", "Broken Valley") — on guitar and vocals, is putting the finishing touches on its sophomore album for a late spring release via Steamhammer/SPV. The group has once again commissioned famed artist Sam Shearon (a.k.a. Mister-Sam; ROB ZOMBIE, FEAR FACTORY, RAMMSTEIN) to create the artwork for the as-yet-untitled CD.

Regarding the musical direction of A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH's forthcoming album, Abruscato states: "The sound has evolved and become a bit more orchestrated. More harmony work has been done on this album, including new elements such as a Hammond B3 organ and piano. To me, the album has an even darker sound and feel than the first one."

He continues: "The new album is a natural progression in songwriting and vocals yet keeping continuity with the first album musically and artistically. Fans of our first album will find all the traits they love melded with even bigger production and mastering.

"Ted Jensen of Sterling Sound will be mastering the album."

A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH's debut album, "And Hell Will Follow Me", came out last year.

The band made its live debut on February 20, 2011 at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey as the support act for MONSTER MAGNET and SEVENTH VOID.

A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH is:

Sal Abruscato - Lead Vocals, Guitar
Matt Brown – Guitar, Backing Vocals
Johnny Kelly - Drums
Eric Morgan - Bass
Eddie Heedles - Guitar

EARTHEN GRAVE Announces New Drummer

EARTHEN GRAVE Announces New Drummer

Chicago's EARTHEN GRAVE has announced the addition of drummer Chris Wozniak (LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR) to the group's ranks.

Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, Wozniak has performed on drums in a variety of rock, folk, and metal bands for over 20 years. He has played with local acts TRIFOG and BLOOD OF MARTYRS, and is currently the drummer for national acts I KLATUS and LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR.

In reference to LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR's 2008 release "War Metal Battle Master", Decibel magazine described Wozniak as being "skilled at treating his drum kit like trash cans that must be killed." It's this very intensity which made him the perfect fit for Chicago's epic doom collective.

EARTHEN GRAVE's previous drummer, Scott Davidson, played on the group's 2009 "Dismal Times" debut EP and recently released full-length album, "Earthen Grave".

EARTHEN GRAVE will perform a Full on Metal show at the Double Door in Chicago this Friday, November 30, and in June comes Days of The Doomed 3 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with additional live actions to be confirmed in 2013.

EARTHEN GRAVE was founded in 2008 by guitarist Jason Muxlow (THE LIVING FIELDS, WINTERING) bassist Ron Holzner (formerly of TROUBLE, DEBRIS INC., PLACE OF SKULLS), and drummer Scott Davidson (ex-STONEHENGE, Rebel Radio). The trio recruited vocalist Mark Weiner (TRIFOG), guitarist Tony Spillman (SPILLAGE), and renowned classical violinist Rachel Barton Pine who performs on extended range electric flying V violin. In late April of this year, EARTHEN GRAVE released its mammoth first album titled "Earthen Grave". Produced by Ron Holzner, and released via his own Claude & Elmo Music, this layered opus showcases the range and diversity of the band's epic and commanding material.

Rumor: CARCASS Putting Finishing Touches On First Studio Album In 17 Years

Rumor: CARCASS Putting Finishing Touches On First Studio Album In 17 Years

Reactivated British extreme metal legends CARCASS are rumored to be putting the finishing touches on their first studio album in 17 years with acclaimed producer Colin Richardson (FEAR FACTORY, MACHINE HEAD, NAPALM DEATH, SLIPKNOT, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE). The band has yet to secure a label home for the effort, which is expected in early 2013.

Guitarist Michael Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson, who have been touring with CARCASS since the band's reunion was announced in 2007, are no longer involved with the group due to scheduling conflicts with their main band, ARCH ENEMY. Joining guitarist Bill Steer and bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker in the studio for the new CD recording sessions was drummer Matthias Voigt of German death metal and hardcore fusionists HEAVEN SHALL BURN.

CARCASS is in the process of booking a number of live shows for 2013, including appearances at next year's Maryland Deathfest and Chile's Metal Fest.

In a May 2012 interview with Metal Forces, Amott said about CARCASS' future plans, "I'm not working with CARCASS at the moment. From what I hear they're working on something new, but it's not with me. I'm not included in it. I don't know. I don't comment. [laughs] I don't really know what they're working on, so it's not really for me to say, but whatever it is I wish them well, of course. I had a great time doing the reunion shows; we played a lot of shows in 2008, 2009, 2010, and I had a fantastic time at those shows. I'm a very busy guy as well, so I could see why I wouldn't be included. I've pretty much got a full-time thing going on with ARCH ENEMY, and I'm with SPIRITUAL BEGGARS on top of that. It's very difficult for me to fit in a third band with touring and everything."

CARCASS' last album, 1996's "Swansong", was re-released in July 2008 via Earache Records. The reissue came fully remastered on a DualDisc (combined CD and DVD) in a deluxe digipak with extra artwork and a free sticker sheet featuring exclusive CARCASS designs, and included part 5 of a mini-documentary series entitled "The Pathologist's Report" as bonus video material, plus an exclusive bonus track, "Deathrider Da". The documentary consisted of interviews, filmed in London and Liverpool at the end of 2007, featuring the members of CARCASS — drummer Ken Owen (who is not involved in the band's current reunion because he suffered a near-fatal brain hemorrhage in February 1999 and has had some rather serious health problems since then), Steer, Walker and Amott — who met up for the first time in ten years and were filmed discussing in-depth the story behind the band's development from their gore-soaked grind beginnings to the more refined, melodic moments of their later output.

AC/DC Sells 48,000 Digital Albums And 696,000 Songs In iTunes Debut

AC/DC Sells 48,000 Digital Albums And 696,000 Songs In iTunes Debut

According to Billboard.com, AC/DC's 25 albums — which became available digitally for the first time on Monday, November 19 — sold a combined 48,000 downloads and its songs shifted 696,000 in the U.S. in the week ending November 25.

AC/DC's top-selling album for the week was 1980's "Back In Black" with 15,000 — more than 10,000 ahead of its second-biggest title, 1979's "Highway to Hell" (a little under 5,000). Coming in third for the week was the brand new "Live At River Plate" (4,000), followed by 1976's "High Voltage" (just under 3,000) and "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" (2,000). The most downloaded song was "Thunderstruck" (85,000), followed by "Back in Black" (68,000), "You Shook Me All Night Long" (64,000), "Highway To Hell" (50,000) and "TNT" (40,000). 14 AC/DC songs sold at least 10,000 last week.

All tracks were mastered for iTunes, and fans have the ability to download full albums or simply purchase their favorite individual songs. Fans can also choose from two specially packaged digital compilations: "The Complete Collection", the complete iTunes-exclusive AC/DC catalog; and "The Collection", which includes all 16 studio albums.

The full catalog which has all been mastered for iTunes includes:

Collections:

* The Collection (all studio albums for $99.99)
* The Complete Collection (all studio albums, live albums and box sets for $149.99)

16 studio albums:

* High Voltage (1976)
* Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (1976)
* Let There Be Rock (1977)
* Powerage (1978)
* Highway To Hell (1979)
* Back In Black (1980)
* For Those About To Rock We Salute You (1981)
* Flick Of The Switch (1983)
* 74 Jailbreak (1984)
* Fly On The Wall (1985)
* Who Made Who (1986)
* Blow Up Your Video (1988)
* The Razors Edge (1990)
* Ballbreaker (1995)
* Stiff Upper Lip (2000)
* Black Ice (2008)

Four live albums:

* If You Want Blood You've Got It (1978)
* Live (1992)
* Live (2 Volume Collector's Edition) (1992)
* Live At River Plate (2012)

Three compilation albums:

* Bonfire (1997)
* Backtracks (2009)
* Iron Man 2 (2010)

AC/DC had previously rejected iTunes distribution in an attempt to preserve the concept of the album.

"Since iTunes came into existence, we've actually increased our back-catalog sales without being on the site. We were sternly warned by our management team and our record label that the complete opposite would be the case," guitarist Angus Young said in an interview.

"I know THE BEATLES have changed but we're going to carry on like that," Angus told Sky News. "For us, it's the best way. We are a band who started off with albums and that's how we've always been. We always were a band that if you heard something [by AC/DC] on the radio, well, that's only three minutes. Usually the best tracks were on the albums."

Speaking to The Telegraph in a 2008, Young said, "If we were on iTunes, we know a certain percentage of people would only download two or three songs from the album — and we don't think that represents us musically."

"Maybe I'm just being old-fashioned, but this iTunes, God bless 'em, it's going to kill music if they're not careful," singer Brian Johnson told Reuters. "It's a...monster, this thing. It just worries me. And I'm sure they're just doing it all in the interest of making as much... cash as possible. Let's put it this way, it's certainly not for the... love, let's get that out of the way right away."

The band's sophomore effort, "Come What(ever) May" (2006), moved 81,000 units in the U.S. its first week out — triple what STONE SOUR's gold-selling debut album (2002) shifted its first week.

STONE SOUR has tapped Johny Chow as its live bassist for the band's tour behind "House Of Gold And Bones". Chow has formerly played with metal acts SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and FIREBALL MINISTRY, and replaces Shawn Economaki, who bowed out of the band earlier this year for personal reasons.

DEATH: 'Spiritual Healing' Deluxe Reissue First-Week Sales Revealed

The latest chapter in Relapse's DEATH reissue campaign, the landmark, genre-defining album "Spiritual Healing", sold 1,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Originally released in 1990, "Spiritual Healing" marked a new turn in the DEATH discography, one which ushered in cleaner production, a new level of boundary pushing musicianship and songwriting skills that were previously unimaginable from a metal band. "Spiritual Healing" sets the standard for riffs, insane time changes and of course mainman Chuck Schuldiner's masterful guitar solos. Now reissued as a double CD housed in super deluxe packaging featuring brand new liner notes from DEATH players James Murphy and Terry Butler, Chuck's sister Beth Schuldiner and VOLBEAT frontman Michael Poulsen, Disc 1 features a completely new remaster of the original album and Disc 2 contains 16 previously unreleased rehearsal, outtakes and studio instrumentals.

In addition to the 2-disc edition, limited-edition (2000 machine-numbered copies) triple CD digipak is available exclusively from Relapse.com. The third CD features a never-before-released live set recorded in 1990 featuring the "Spiritual Healing" DEATH lineup. An iTunes deluxe edition was also released containing five additional previously unreleased pre-"Human" rehearsal tracks not available on either of the CD versions.

"Spiritual Healing" follows the recent Relapse Records reissues of DEATH classics "Individual Thought Patterns", "The Sound of Perseverance", "Human" and the live collection "Vivus!" plus Chuck Schuldiner projects MANTAS and CONTROL DENIED. Like those reissues, this collection will contain extensive liner notes from previous members and never-before-seen photos of the band.

"Spiritual Healing" track listing:

Disc 1 - "Spiritual Healing" - Remastered

01. Living Monstrosity

JOE LYNN TURNER Has

JOE LYNN TURNER Has 'No Idea' If He Will Be Included In Possible PURPLE 'Rock Hall' Induction

Robert Cavuoto of Guitar International recently conducted an interview with legendary singer Joe Lynn Turner's (RAINBOW, DEEP PURPLE, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN). An excerpt from the chat follows below.

Guitar International: What was it like to be in the RAINBOW legacy and perform the Ronnie James Dio songs?

Joe Lynn Turner: I loved doing the Dio songs. I grew up listening to him, David Coverdale and Ian Gillan. I performed a lot of those songs in cover bands, but to be standing on the stage next to Ritchie Blackmore was a whole other level, of course.

Guitar International: Your legacy in RAINBOW spawned the most video and commercial radio hits for the band. Was that the intent?

Joe Lynn Turner: That's was the actual design of it. We were supposed to be more commercial. When Ritchie got me in the band, he point-blank told me that we were going after a commercial market. Other bands on the label were going that way like DEF LEPPARD who were getting played on the radio. Ritchie wanted to get played on the radio too. I said then let's go after their throats; we are going to write songs that are hook, line, and sinker hits. That was mission and we accomplished it.

Guitar International: Do you still keep in touch with Ritchie?

Joe Lynn Turner: Not much. It's pretty difficult with the whole personality thing. It could be one line in an e-mail. I could send an email saying congratulations on this or that and he would write back, "Thanks." [laughs]

Guitar International: Do you have any insight into the DEEP PURPLE Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction?

Joe Lynn Turner: I have read that he was not going to attend. He was never one of those guys that believe he needed an award. In a way, I respect that. There are a lot of people that think it is a scam, money and politically oriented. So I understand what he means.

Guitar International: I ask because you were in DEEP PURPLE and was wondering if you were going to be included in the induction?

Joe Lynn Turner: That would be interesting. I really have no idea. I have no idea which of the other members of DEEP PURPLE will be included. I don't know if it's just the Mach 5 lineup. DEEP PURPLE is a band that had a lot of members run through it. I haven't really pursued it or tried to find out, because I'm personally half and half about it. I have a little bit of Blackmore's attitude in the sense that DEEP PURPLE should have been in 20 years ago. What's that all about?

Former NIGHTWISH Singer TARJA TURUNEN Becomes First-Time Mother

Former NIGHTWISH Singer TARJA TURUNEN Becomes First-Time Mother

On Wednesday (November 28), former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen posted a picture on her official Facebook page in which she could be seen holding a small baby in her arms (see below). "[It] is time to go to the airport," she wrote in the accompanying message. "In few days, a new tour will start in Germany. It will be a very special one for us indeed."

Turunen's spokeswoman has since confirmed that the woman in the picture is really Tarja and that she is holding her and her husband and manager Marcelo Cabuli's first child.

"The baby is their biological child," Taija Holm told Iltalehti.

Turunen, who currently resides in Buenos Aires, Argentina with her husband, kept her pregnancy a secret until the very end.

Cabuli and his business partners last year demanded nearly 100,000 euros (approximately $135,000) in defamation damages from the parties behind "Once Upon a Nightwish: The Official Biography 1996-2006".

The book, which was published in Finnish in 2006 and in English three years later, blames Cabuli for the events leading up to Turunen's dramatic expulsion from the band in late 2005.

The court ruled that the book — which criticizes Cabuli on only a few of its 380 pages — did not detrimentally affect his work or reputation in South America. In addition, the court determined that the book's author did not maliciously portray Cabuli in a negative light.

Turunen was fired from NIGHTWISH a year before the book was published.

CRASHDÏET: New Album Details Revealed

CRASHDÏET: New Album Details Revealed

Frontiers Records will release "The Savage Playground", the fourth album from Swedish rockers CRASHDÏET, on January 25 in Europe (excluding Scandinavia) and January 22 in North America.

A leading force in the Swedish "sleaze rock" scene of the 2000s — a revival of the glam metal of the 1980s, but with a more pronounced punk element — CRASHDÏET for the first time manage to release their brand of down and dirty rock and roll simultaneously all over the world.

In April 2010, the band's third album "Generation Wild", pretty much summed up the extraordinary but yet tragic history of a band, determined to never give up their dream.

CRASHDÏET has become known as a band with a huge following of diehard fans, and the massive interest for them never seems to fade.

There has been extensive touring during the course of "Generation Wild" and the absolute highlight saw the band conquer Hollywood and New York City with sold-out shows at Whisky A Go Go and Webster Hall. The band also supported their heroes MÖTLEY CRÜE and OZZY OSBOURNE. "Supporting MÖTLEY CRÜE in Helsinki and headlining Whisky A Go Go have been the highlights of the 'Generation Wild' tour," says guitarist Martin Sweet.

With the "The Savage Playground" recorded during summer/autumn 2012 at Kingside Studios outside Stockholm with producer Otto Wellton, the band has their minds set to break through on a worldwide basis with a tour that will see the band going back to the U.S. as well as going to Japan for the first time.

"We will put a lot of effort into the U.S. for our new tour," continues Sweet. "We will start in Scandinavia in February, Then we head to the U.S. and Canada. Coming back end of April to do U.K. and then Europe and Japan will follow with festivals in the summer and then South America to kick off in the autumn."

The new album sees CRASHDÏET going in a heavier and direction. "'The Savage Playground' is our playground, it's the beginning and the end, it's the place where we eat and breed," says Sweet. "We thought the time was right for us to do a edgier and not-so-polished-sounding album, kinda like what we sound like live. It's more organic and rough-sounding. And, of course, we're always evolving as musicians and like to try new ways of expressing ourselves, and that can most definitely be heard this album."

"The Savage Playground" track listing:

01. Change The World
02. Cocaine Cowboys
03. Anarchy
04. California
05. Lickin' Dog
06. Circus
07. Sin City
08. Got A Reason
09. Drinkin' Without You
10. Snakes In Paradise
11. Damaged Kid
12. Excited
13. Garden Of Babylon

The first single, "Cocaine Cowboys", will arrive on December 12.

LORD:

LORD: 'Because We Can' Video Released

"Because We Can", the new video from Australian melodic metallers LORD, can be seen below. Filmed by Dusk Music Video Production, the clip features ESP endorsees Lord Tim and Mark Furtner as they battle each other with their ESP weapons of choice, and also highlights a jaw-dropping bass solo by fellow Australian ESP endorsee Andy Dowling.

Lord Tim commented: "Yes, we're aware this video is dumb and contains ridiculous amounts of arguably tasteless shredding. Why do it? .... well, have a guess ;-)".

"Because We Can" comes off LORD's new album, "Digital Lies", which will be released in early 2013. The cover art was once again created by Felipe Machado (BLIND GUARDIAN, IRON SAVIOR, ICED EARTH, GAMMA RAY).

The track listing for the CD is as follows:

01. Incipio
02. Betrayal Blind
03. Digital Lies
04. Point Of View
05. Walk Away
06. 2D Person In A 3D World
07. Final Seconds
08. The Last Encore
09. Because We Can
10. The Chalkboard Prophet
11. Battle Of Venarium

Commented the band: "Every artist says their new album is 'their best work' or their 'heaviest' or 'most brutal.' We'll skip those clichés and say that we believe we have a solid album of good music that we're proud of and we believe stands up to anything we've released so far.

"If you're familiar with LORD, you'll know what to expect for the most part; a very diverse album ranging from traditional metal to commercial rock to extreme metal and everything in between.

"If you're wanting an album full of thrash songs, AOR songs, or progressive epic movie orchestral jazz djent punk songs that all sound the same, then I'm afraid you'll be a little bewildered when the style shifts from song to song. It's the LORD you know with a few new elements that have fallen into the melting pot since the last album."

LORD is essentially a continuation of DUNGEON, one of Australia's longest running and highest-profile heavy metal bands that disbanded in 2005. LORD has released three full-length albums, two EPs and a digital-only release live album, and continues to play the DUNGEON back catalog live. The band has shared the stage with the likes of GAMMA RAY, NIGHTWISH, QUEENSRŸCHE and most recently ICED EARTH and continues to tour internationally. Their last critically acclaimed album, 2009's "Set In Stone", featured guest appearances by Craig Goldy (ex-DIO), Pete Lesperance (HAREM SCAREM), Glen Drover (ex-MEGADETH), Felipe Andreoi (ANGRA), Olof Mörck (AMARANTHE) alongside a host of other well-known musicians.

GOD SEED:

GOD SEED: 'Alt Liv' Video Released

"Alt Liv", the first video from GOD SEED, the Norwegian band featuring former GORGOROTH members King (bass; real name: Tom Cato Visnes) and Gaahl (vocals; real name: Kristian Espedal), can be seen below. Shot in the depths of the Norwegian wilderness, the clip was produced by Mats Willassen.

"Alt Liv" comes off GOD SEED's debut album, "I Begin", which was released on October 30 in Europe and October 23 in North America via Indie Recordings. The CD was written, arranged and recorded between the fall of 2009 and May 2012. The group laid down 11 new songs which "will show the band from a different side but well-rooted in what Gaahl and King are known for in the past," according to a press release.

"I Begin" is available as a limited embossed deluxe digipack with bonus tracks, and as regular CD.

"I Begin" track listing:

01. Awake
02. This From The Past
03. Alt Liv
04. From The Running Of Blood
05. Hinstu Dagar
06. Diversions 1 (bonus track limited edition)
07. Aldrande Tre
08. Lit
09. The Wound
10. Bloodline
11. Diversions 2 (bonus track limited edition)

GOD SEED earlier in the year announced its new lineup. It is as follows:

* Tom Cato Visnes (a.k.a. King) (TEMPLE OF THE BLACK MOON, OV HELL, GORGOROTH) - Bass
* Kristian Espedal (a.k.a. Gaahl) (GORGOROTH, TRELLDOM, WARDRUNA) - Vocals
* Stian "Sir" Kårstad (TRELLDOM, DJERV) - Guitar
* Kenneth Kapstad (MOTORPSYCHO) - Drums
* Geir Bratland (DIMMU BORGIR) – Keyboards, Noise
* Lust Kilman (THE BATALLION, GRIMFIST) - Guitar

Commented King: "All members of GOD SEED have been carefully picked for their musical skills and devoted personalities. We aim to release an album which will sound different than what we have done in the past. The new members have been very important for creating a sound that hopefully will come across as unique and defining the new GOD SEED sound. From this moment, GOD SEED should not be viewed as a duo anymore, but as a band with six members."

GOD SEED's "Live At Wacken" DVD and CD was released on January 27 in Europe and January 31 in North America via Indie Recordings.

"Live At Wacken" includes footage of the group's infamous live show from the 2008 edition of the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany where they performed on the main stage in front of 75,000 screaming fans. The effort features session players Nick Barker (drums) and Ice Dale (guitar) alongside King and Gaahl.

GOD SEED came to life after Gaahl and King lost a court battle in early 2009 against guitarist Infernus (real name: Roger Tiegs) over the rights to the GORGOROTH band name.

Commented King: "GOD SEED represents a more spiritual side to us than what GORGOROTH did. GOD SEED represents the will to grow; the will to be the super man, so to speak. I think it's a suitable name for what we will represent in the future. I am also aware of the fact that we use the word 'God' in the name. It will challenge the weak-minded in the respect that we in the past used the word Satan a lot, but it's all about the same thing. The God within man, and the God within nature. I never believed in a Christian force named Satan. I believe in the God within man."

Gaahl left GOD SEED in 2009 because he chose to retire from metal music, but has since rejoined the group.

* Somebody That I Used To Know (GOTYE)

Released on March 29, 2011 the CD was produced by Daniel Gibson and is based on a comic book story written by script writer Steven O'Connell (BloodRayne, Dark 48). The band asked comic artist Romano Molenaar (Witchblade, Darkness, X-Men) to draw the characters and scenery of "The Unforgiving", which was made available via Sony Music in Continental Europe and Roadrunner Records in the U.S., U.K. and Ireland, Japan and Australia.

WITHIN TEMPTATION guitarist Robert Westerholt last year announced that he would step down from touring duties in order to focus on taking care of the three children he has with the band's lead singer, Sharon den Adel. His replacement on stage is Stefan Helleblad, who has been working with the band behind the scenes for a few years.

THE ACACIA STRAIN Forced To Drop Off VEIL OF MAYA Tour Following Van Accident

Massachusetts metallers THE ACACIA STRAIN have been forced to leave their co-headlining tour with VEIL OF MAYA "due to a serious van accident." According to a press release, "members of the band and crew are being treated for minor injuries."

ALICE COOPER Performs On

ALICE COOPER Performs On 'Conan'; Video Available

Legendary rocker Alice Cooper performed the song "I'll Bite Your Face Off" on last night's (Wednesday, November 28) episode of Conan O'Brien's nighttime talk show on TBS, "Conan". You can watch video footage of Alice's appearance below.

"I'll Bite Your Face Off" comes from Alice's latest album, last year's "Welcome 2 My Nightmare", which sold 18,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 22 on The Billboard 200 chart. Cooper's previous CD, 2008's "Along Came A Spider", opened with just under 10,000 copies to land at No. 53.

Recorded with longtime collaborator Bob Ezrin, who produced the original multi-platinum "Welcome To My Nightmare" album in 1975, "Welcome 2 My Nightmare" picks up right where they left off, with Alice trapped in his own warped mind.

"This is Alice's nightmare 35 years later," said Cooper of the new "Nightmare" CD. "Bob and I created this character and we know how to write for him. I play the part but we're not writing for me, we're writing for Alice. We kept the first 'Nightmare' album very personal to us, on this one we found more humor and we were more open."

He continued: "This was our world and we want to present it to the fans. The original album was my first solo album after all those huge hit records with the original band and now that nightmare is exposed, this one can be a little bit more open. The music crosses all sorts of boundaries; we went where the lyrics took us."

OZZY On New SABBATH Album:

OZZY On New SABBATH Album: 'I Hope People Who Have Waited All These Years Aren't Disappointed'

Scott Kara of The New Zealand Herald recently conducted an interview with the legendary BLACK SABBATH singer Ozzy Osbourne. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.

On how BLACK SABBATH came to be such a respected band:

Osbourne: "It's a really weird thing, because what we did, we just did. We didn't go, 'Oh, we're going to write this way, and we're going to record that way, and it's going to come out like this'. And 45 years up the road who would have thought it's still going to be current and people were going to look upon it as the foundations of heavy metal? I mean, you don't realise that sort of thing, you just do it."

On not being completely confortable with BLACK SABBATH being considered originators of the "heavy metal" genre:

Osbourne: "Not everything BLACK SABBATH did was about the devil, or about heavy metal because 'Changes' was a beautiful song. But all they ever remember is that I sing about the devil and 'Iron Man', you know."

On how the members of BLACK SABBATH — with the exception of drummer Bill Ward, who is sitting out the band's reunion due to a contractual dispute — are getting along nowadays:

Osbourne: "What's different now is that none of us get drunk or stoned or any of that stuff. We're all clean, and all in control of ourselves, we're not intimidated by each other, there are no arguments, and it's the way it should be. But when we were kids we had egos. When you're 21 and you get some success it takes a while to get your head around. You have an ego, you have the spoils of success, the cars, the houses, the money, the alcohol, the drugs, the groupies, and all the rest of it, and if you go through all of that and you are lucky enough to survive you get married, you get divorced, you get married again, and it's a journey. But we've done it all so what it boils down to now is the music - and that's what got us where we are in the first place. We have come through the other side, we're still able to work together, and that's where the enjoyment comes from. It's been a lot of fun making this record."

On the recording sessions for the new BLACK SABBATH album, which were interrupted by guitarist Tony Iommi's diagnosis with lymphona at the beginning of this year:

Osbourne: "[The treatment] has been a bit rough on him but he still manages to come up with those great riffs. It's been more than 30 years since I really seriously worked with the guys. We had a try a few years back but nothing came of it. But for some reason the timing is right and we've done about 15 songs. BLACK SABBATH is very unique in the respect that nothing is formulated. It's very unpredictable. I just hope the people who have waited all these years aren't disappointed."

Video: DORO PESCH Performs RONNIE JAMES DIO Tribute Song In London

Video: DORO PESCH Performs RONNIE JAMES DIO Tribute Song In London

Fan-filmed video footage of German metal queen Doro Pesch performing her tribute song to legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio, "Hero", on November 20 at Relentless Garage in London, England can be seen below.

"Hero" appears on Doro's new album, "Raise Your Fist", which sold 585 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 65 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

In a recent interview with Geeks Of Doom, Doro stated about her inspiration for the "Hero" song, "I had the great honor to meet [Ronnie] several times. It was actually [on] my second big tour in the '80s — my first tour was actually with JUDAS PRIEST and my second big tour was with Ronnie James Dio in 1987 and it was such a great tour. PRIEST was my favorite band and Dio was my favorite singer, so needless to say, I was in heaven! It was so great and we got along great, always joking, laughing; he had a great sense of humor. And we had another long tour in America together, it was actually in 2000, and there we became really great friends. It was the time when grunge was on the way out and it was the first real metal tour again in the States and it was DIO, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and us. Oh, man, it was such a great tour. So much energy. The fans were having such a great time and we started in San Francisco… and then we ended in Florida. It was three gigs in Florida, I was always watching the show every night of Ronnie and it was so overwhelming. I must say I learned a lot and it was so great to watch it and to hear his voice every night and the songs. Then one time he walked off the stage and everybody said, 'Where is he going?' and then my band, they were always watching with me, and they said, 'Oh, you know what's coming up!' I said, 'No, what's coming up?' and, man, Ronnie came back with a second microphone which he got from the monitor guy and I thought, 'Oh, no, oh no!' [laughs] I start shying away and then my band is [saying], 'No, go onstage!' and Ronnie said, 'Hey, Doro, let's sing the encores together.' I said, 'Ronnie I don't know exactly the lyrics,' and he said, 'It doesn't matter, just let's have fun!' We sung the last three shows, always the encores, together and it was such a great time.
