METALLICA's August 24, August 25 and August 27 concerts at Rogers Arena were shot in 3D for the band's upcoming feature-film project.
The group earlier in the year tapped award-winning director Nimród Antal to helm the movie. Charlotte Huggins ("Journey To The Center Of The Earth", "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island") is producing.
The film will be a marriage of narrative and concert and will star the "five" members of METALLICA — James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo, and the fans. It will be released in the summer of 2013.
Antal is best known for writing and directing the Hungarian-language film "Kontroll" (2003) that won several awards, including the Award of Youth at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and the Gold Hugo prize at the Chicago International Film Festival. He also received a European Film Award nomination for Best Director. His credits include "Vacancy", starring Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson, and "Armored", starring Matt Dillon and Laurence Fishburne. In 2010 he was hired by Robert Rodriguez to direct "Predators", featuring Adrien Brody.
Ulrich did hint to Rolling Stone a few months back what the film might be like, saying, "Imagine if you took [LED ZEPPELIN's concert film] 'The Song Remains The Same', which is 75 percent concert, 25 percent other stuff, and flipped it around. And all the non-concert footage, instead of being about the band members, is a story that unfolds, set against the backdrop of the concert."

COAL CHAMBER On Buenos Aires Radio Station: More Pro-Shot Performance FootageCOAL CHAMBER, the reformed '90s alt-metal band fronted by current DEVILDRIVER singer Dez Fafara, took part in an interview and live performance yesterday (wednesday, September 5) on the Buenos Aires, Argentina radio station Vorterix Rock 103.1. Check out video footage below.
COAL CHAMBER played its first reunion dates in late February and early March as part of Australia's Soundwave Festival.
In a 2011 interview with Australia's Loud magazine, Dez stated about how the COAL CHAMBER reunion came about, "In '05, Meegs [Miguel Rascón, guitar] started coming around. He apologized to my wife for the way things went down with COAL CHAMBER, because when COAL CHAMBER split up I had to move my family into a one-bedroom apartment and start all over. So when he apologized to my wife, I thought, 'Well, OK, he's got a big heart inside him. And he's clean off the hard drugs now, let's see if this goes awhile.' So let's fast forward a few years to '09, he and Mikey [Mike Cox, drums] were still clean off hard drugs, Meegs came out and did 'Loco' onstage with DEVILDRIVER. After that he gave me a hug onstage and in my ear he said, 'Let's do this again.'"
Asked how he feels about performing the COAL CHAMBER songs again, Dez said, "[Meegs and Mikey] been clean off hard drugs, they've got their lives together, I've got my life with DEVILDRIVER, we miss playing together onstage. I miss... Those guys have got a serious fucking aura on stage, no doubt about it. I miss that. I miss those songs. I miss everything about it. . . It's ten years later, everybody's fucking one hundred percent focused, and we're coming down for one reason only, and that's to own the day and take everybody to the bank. Period."
Regarding why neither of the two former COAL CHAMBER bassists — Nadja Peulen or Rayna Foss — is involved in the band's reunion, Dez told Full Metal Jackie in a separate interview, "Rayna was not [asked to be a part of it]. Rayna has been out of the band for a very long time. We did speak to Nadja. She has other things going and it wasn't really in the headspace where we were at as a band. We found Chela; she's Canadian and she's a bad-ass player. She's been playing for nearly 12 years. She plays five-string and it's going to be good to have her on bass. She grew up with COAL CHAMBER. She's only 26-27 years old. She knows the songs, and just hearing her on the phone, the excitement [in her voice], that's really what I wanted brought to the table. Where Meegs and Mikey and I am right now, we're really excited so we needed someone that filled that excitement drawer and she did for sure; she's stoked." 2

DEGRADEAD Announces New DrummerStockholm, Sweden-based melodic death metallers DEGRADEAD have announced the addition of drummer Amit Mohla (RAID) to the group's ranks.
Commented Mohla: "It's really an honor to share thoughts, rehearsal studio, stage, friendship and the world with a band that I've heard so much about in the Swedish rock scene.
"Being a band member in DEGRADEAD is a big step in my life and, of course, my music career.
"When we played together at the first audition, I felt it clicked right away between us, which turned out to be a beginning of a new chapter in the history of DEGRADEAD.
"To play music that is both heavy, hard and creative was one of the thousand reasons that made me apply for the DEGRADEAD role. Diversity, music without boundaries were others.
"It will be very interesting to hear how the next album will turn out with a new band member, new influences and a new sound. I'm really looking forward to 2013 when the new album will be released and you'll get to know me a bit better!
"Now when the auditions have ended and the band is complete again, hard work is expected from everyone involved in the DEGRADEAD family. The gigs are booked and the set list is written. Now we have to rehearse a lot for the Killfest Tour, Russia tour and the gigs in Sweden. There is so much to do in a short amount of time. This is what I signed up for!"
A four-minute video introduction of Mohla as DEGRADEAD's new drummer can be seen below. Also available is a photo of the band's new lineup.
DEGRADEAD's third album, "A World Destroyer", was released in North America on June 28, 2011 via Metalville Records. The CD was recorded at Peter Tägtgren's (HYPOCRISY, PAIN) Abyss studios in Pärlby, outside Ludvika, Sweden, with producer Jonas Kjellgren (SCAR SYMMETRY, CENTINEX, WORLD BELOW).
On August 6, 2010, DEGRADEAD played for their first time at the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken. Germany. Their full set, as performed on the W.E.T Stage before an enthusiastic audience, along with many extras, is included on the DVD release, "Live At Wacken And Beyond", which was released on February 28 via Metalville Records. The disc also contains "From Tullinge To Hyderabad", a 50-minute documentary following DEGRADEAD from their first years in Tullinge, a small suburb south of Stockholm where the band was formed, to their successful tour of India in February 2011. It includes interviews, live clips and a lot of other "interesting stuff for the fans."

LITA FORD Performs Acoustic Set In Austin (Video)'80s hard rock queen Lita Ford performed a short acoustic set at Waterloo Records in Austin, Texas on September 4. You can now watch fan-filmed video footage of her appearance below.
Lita's new solo album, "Living Like A Runaway", was released on June 19 in North America via SPV/Steamhammer. The effort was made available in four configurations: a double LP, limited-edition CD, standard CD and digital download. The artwork for the album was created by famed rock photographer Mark Weiss.
In a recent interview with Über Röck. Lita stated about "Living Like A Runaway", "This was an album I wrote during one of the darkest times of my life. I was going through this divorce and I needed somewhere to channel my feelings. My hurt, my pain, my aggression, my sadness, my happiness... all of these feelings are in this record. When you listen to the tracks, they are believable because they are real. . . It just came together; it was like a gift from God, this album. It took a year to write, it was a slow process, seeming like two years, and it came to me a piece at a time."
Lita has previously referred to "Living Like A Runaway" as her "real comeback album." She explained, "The last album I did was called 'Wicked Wonderland'. I put it out with Jim Gillette, and we were married at the time. It is kind of a Jim/Lita album and not a really true Lita album. I got a lot of spiel about that. . . I really wasn't that comfortable with that record — not at all, to tell you the truth. There are parts of it that are good, but it doesn't sound like a Lita record. When it got released, a lot of my fans felt weird about it and said it wasn't a Lita album. [It] turned out to be more of a Jim album. We worked pretty well together. It doesn't suck, it's not a bad album; it's just not a Lita album."
Lita's current touring band consists of the following musicians:
Lita Ford - Guitar, Vocals
Mitch Perry - Guitar
Marty O'Brien - Bass
Scot Coogan - Drums

LED ZEPPELIN's 2007 Reunion Concert Rumored For DVD ReleaseAccording to a posting (since removed) on the web site of Belgian classic rock radio station RTBF, LED ZEPPELIN's reunion for the Ahmet Ertegun tribute concert at London's O2 Arena in December 2007 will finally be released on DVD and CD in November. Citing sources at Warner Music, the site reported that the set will consist of a double DVD accompanied by two CDs.
An estimated nine million people applied for the 18,000 tickets to the O2 Arena show, which featured Jason Bonham taking his late father's place behind the drum kit.
In its review of the concert, NME.com wrote that LED ZEPPELIN singer Robert Plant spoke little during the show, but when he did, it was mostly to pay tribute to Ertegun, who he said after first encore "Whole Lotta Love", "ran the best label in the world" in Atlantic Records.
Speaking to the Los Angeles radio station KLOS in December 2010, Jason stated about the prospect of the concert being released on DVD, "Nothing is official, as yet. I only know that because Robert had said that he'd watched it. I really do hope that it eventually will see the light of day. It's just nice to know that Robert had seen it, so I knew something, but it was nice that he rang up and said, 'Wow, it sounded great.' Fingers crossed, everybody… fingers crossed."
In an interview with U.K.'s Telegraph.co.uk, Plant was asked about ZEPPELIN's 2007 reunion concert. "I really had a wonderful time," said Plant. "It was the best LED ZEPPELIN gig since 1975."
When asked if he would do it again, Plant replied, "I don't think so. You've got to have a lot in common with the people you're working with at this time in your life. Everything has to move on and forward, in all relationships.
"I know that bands that haven't put out a record for 10 years are playing to 20,000 people a night. But that's not the achievement. The achievement is to knock yourself out. It's a very selfish thing. The tail must never wag the dog."
A few months back, radio personality and "That Metal Show" co-host Eddie Trunk tweeted, "Heard from a very reliable source backstage at AEROSMITH show that there will be some sort of LED ZEPPELIN activity around Christmas." 5

Original ANTHRAX Singer Performs 'Metal Thrashing Mad' In Hollywood (Video)Multi-camera video footage of DEATHRIDERS — the power/thrash metal band led by former ANTHRAX singer Neil Turbin — performing on July 21 at the iconic Whisky a Go Go on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, California can be seen below.
According to a press release, "at a recent DEATHRIDERS rehearsal at Hollywood's Swing House Studios, the band sounded fast and heavy with strong old-school 'Fistful Of Metal' vocals which caught the attention of Steven Tyler (AEROSMITH, 'American Idol'). In an even further testament to the 'molten-metal' performance given by the band even at a simple rehearsal, Tyler who had been listening outside the studio, came into the rehearsal room unannounced and stayed to watch the band perform their track 'Give 'Em Hell' and was [seen] headbanging along the whole time."
DEATHRIDERS is currently recording its full-length debut, "The Metal Beast Is Alive", at Blue Pacific Studios in Los Angeles.
DEATHRIDERS is
Neil Turbin (ANTHRAX) - Vocals
Seb Agini (AXECUTOR - Sofia, Bulgaria) - Guitar
Sean Elg (NIHILIST - San Diego, California) - Drums
Arnold Gonzalez - Guitar
Michael Lopez - Bass

WORLD UNDER BLOOD: 'Into The Arms Of Cruelty' Video Released"Into The Arms Of Cruelty", the new video from WORLD UNDER BLOOD — the melodic death metal project led by CKY guitarist/vocalist Deron Miller — can be seen below. The clip was directed by Shan Dan Horan, who has previously worked with WINDS OF PLAGUE, VAMPIRES EVERYWHERE!, ARSONISTS GET ALL THE GIRLS and THE BREATHING PROCESS.
"Violence towards children is an appalling, disgusting and unfortunately a rampant occurrence amongst millions of households." states Miller.
"WORLD UNDER BLOOD will always campaign to bring harsh reality straight to your senses, no matter how ugly and offensive, to bring awareness to its existence.
"Any misunderstanding that we condone any kind of despicable behavior like the variety found in this music video is false and idiotic."
"Into The Arms Of Cruelty" comes off WORLD UNDER BLOOD's debut album, "Tactical", which sold around 900 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 32 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
The artwork for "Tactical" was brought to life by the twisted mind of Pär Olofsson (IMMORTAL, THE FACELESS, ABYSMAL DAWN) and can be seen below.
The drum tracks on "Tactical" were laid down by Tim Yeung (DIVINE HERESY, VITAL REMAINS, HATE ETERNAL).
WORLD UNDER BLOOD recently announced the addition of drummer Mike Heller (FEAR FACTORY, MALIGNANCY) and bassist Kyle Konkiel (IN THIS MOMENT) to the group's ranks.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY's 'Eye For An Eye' To Be Reissued In NovemberCandlelight Records has set a November 6 North American release date for CORROSION OF CONFORMITY's "Eye For An Eye". This special reissue has been remastered/packaged and includes the EP "Six Songs With Mike Singing". Both titles have been out of print for years. It follows the successful release of the band's self-titled album earlier this year. A deluxe digibook edition of the album, limited to 1000 for North America, will be available at limited retailers and via Candlelight's official webstore. The digibook version includes extended liner notes and a rare pictorial gallery.
Twenty-six songs showcase the early sonic years of the North Carolina-based band. Far more punk than their later recordings, the album found an immediate fanbase. Amazon customers over the years have called the album an "undisputed classic," while noting it is "for the true skaters of the mid-to-late '80s," and "brings me back to a good time of hardcore/punk."
Comments guitarist Woody Weatherman, "We were just kids when we wrote and recorded these tunes." Vocalist/bassist Mike Dean notes, "Making that album was our dream and we worked hard to make it happen because it was the vehicle to allow us to go out and play two hundred shows a year, like the bands we looked up to — BLACK FLAG, BAD BRAINS, D.O.A."
Originally released in 1984, "Eye For An Eye" featured the original lineup of Weatherman, Dean, drummer Reed Mullin and vocalist Eric Eycke. Reissued to incorporate the 1989 EP by Mike Dean (who left the band between 1987-1992), "Eye For An Eye" is raw in sound but focused on message. The years that followed would see the band rise to worldwide popularity with breakthrough and Billboard-charting releases "Blind" and "Deliverance".
Formed in Raleigh in 1982, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY quickly transformed heavy music. Politically charged and socially aware, the band has influenced countless others and today remains humble about their accomplishments. With over 1.1 million albums sold in the United States, the band continues to find new fans via nonstop touring.
"We had a lot of fun doing it and it's great to have this album officially back out there again," says Weatherman. "I had basically written this off as being our sloppy beginner's effort but listening to it now, I really hear a few songs that hold up well," adds Dean.
"Eye For An Eye" track listing:

We're definitely going to do 'Countdown To Extinction' in its entirety and if we get a second night, we'll probably play most of 'Peace Sells'. TREMONTI: 'All I Was' Extended Trailer ReleasedAn extended trailer for "All I Was", the debut solo album from ALTER BRIDGE and CREED guitarist Mark Tremonti, can be seen below.
The CD, which was released on July 17 via Fret 12 Records, a company Mark started with his brother, Daniel Tremonti, and Tom Stanley, sold more than 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 29 on The Billboard 200 chart.
United Stations' nationally syndicated radio show "HardDrive" recently announced the 2012 "HardDrive Live Tour" featuring TREMONTI and MAN THE MIGHTY. The fourth annual trek will begin in Flint, Michigan on September 20, and is scheduled to hit thirteen cities across North America. TREMONTI with CHARM CITY DEVILS will be doing two warm-up dates, "The Road To HardDrive", on September 11 in West Greenwich, Rhode Island and September 12 at the Highline Ballroom in New York City.
"HardDrive" host Lou Brutus will be on hand for some of the dates.
With two bands and a solo career, The Pulse Of Radio asked Tremonti how he knows which project the songs he writes are best suited for. "I've just gotten this filter, this intuition that tells me what songs go to which band, and with my solo stuff, the rhythm section is so different from the other bands, I think it really stands apart," he said. "I think it's a little more aggressive than both the other bands, but you just have to hear it, I guess."
His solo band, also billed TREMONTI, features ALTER BRIDGE and CREED bassist Brian Marshall in the lineup along with guitarist Eric Friedman and drummer Garrett Whitlock.

HELSTAR released its latest album, "Glory Of Chaos", in November 2010 via Germany's AFM Records.
Formed in Houston in the early '80s, HELSTAR cut its teeth playing backyard parties and small club gigs. It soon became apparent that HELSTAR had much more to offer then its contemporaries. Combat Records snapped up the band and released HELSTAR's debut, "Burning Star", in 1984. Next came "Remnants of War", followed by HELSTAR's breakthrough album, "A Distant Thunder", in 1988. The success of "A Distant Thunder" ultimately set up HELSTAR's most critically acclaimed album, 1989's "Nosferatu".

BLACK VEIL BRIDES Completes Recording New AlbumLos Angeles theatrical rockers BLACK VEIL BRIDES have completed recording their new album for a January 2013 release. The band was assisted by GOLDFINGER's John "Feldy" Feldmann during the tracking sessions for the new CD.
Commented BLACK VEIL BRIDES frontman Andy Biersack: "[There is] still some stuff to finish up, but I'm so happy, excited and proud of this album!" He added, "Thank you, [Feldy] for helping us to create something we are all so proud of! This entire record is a dream come true!!"
Biersack told NME earlier this summer that the follow-up to "Set The World On Fire" was going to be "more of a punk rock record than anything we've done before. It's SOCIAL DISTORTION meets METALLICA." Biersack also confirmed that the album has a title, but declined to reveal it, explaining, "Of course we've got a title. I don't do anything unless I think about it six months in advance. We've got a title, we've got a story. It's a bit of concept record, there's a very serious story behind it. It's full of surprises."
BLACK VEIL BRIDES' new song, "Unbroken", appeared on the soundtrack to this year's movie, "Marvel's The Avengers". "Unbroken" is included on "Avengers Assemble", a 14-track compilation of music from and inspired by the film. "Avengers Assemble" was released on May 1.
BLACK VEIL BRIDES' latest EP, "Rebels", was released last December, exclusively through iTunes.

KING DIAMOND: 'We're Not Going To Play Without The Full Production, Pure And Simple'Danish heavy metal singer King Diamond (KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE) (real name: Kim Bendix Petersen), was interviewed on a recent edition of Full Metal Jackie's nationally syndicated radio show. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below.
To see a full list of stations carrying the program and when it airs, go to FullMetalJackieRadio.com.
Interview (audio):
Full Metal Jackie: First I want to talk to you about your health, because your first performance after triple bypass surgery was a year later with MERCYFUL FATE during METALLICA's run of anniversary shows. Was that overwhelming — not just METALLICA acknowledging your influence but that you were healthy enough to be there?
King Diamond: I didn't even know if I was going to be able to do it. It was a tough round, of course, with rehab and a lot of changes in your life. I cut out cigarettes completely — I had to do it; haven't had a drag since a year and a half ago — so changing of the diet, working out more and all this stuff. I have totally changed, I can also see in my body how everything has changed for the better. The first thing was, three months after, they're pretty tough on you. The surgeon said after ten days I was home from the hospital, first day he said, "You've got to go out and walk half a mile." [I was like] "Are you serious? I can barely stand up." I had to have help to get out of a chair. Everything was totally weird but that it how they do it. One week later I was doing a mile, so you're pushed out there and you almost feel like you shouldn't be here, that you've been given a second chance, but it's strange. I had to literally ask my wife when we were walking if she could really see me and feel me that I was actually there, and not as a joke, but really I had to have that confirmed so many times and that faded slowly down the road. Eventually, I got the chance three months after the surgery, I got to go down to say "Hi" to some friends, crew guys that also work with a band called VOLBEAT, and met them during the day and got the chance to get up onstage during their soundcheck and that made everything in my chest rattle. It felt so bad I had to get out of there that was then. Six months after that I got to go see what was going on with METALLICA — that was actually a year after with METALLICA — but still I did not know what was going on. My surgeon said everything in my chest looked good and it was back together well, 'cause they saw you open and open you like a double door practically and then when they put it back together I saw for the first time an x-ray. A month or two before going to METALLICA's anniversary I had like a braided metal rod, sitting all the way down and that's what was tying together the rib cage and had then had the rib cage screwed together around that. It's amazing what they do but the whole thing of learning how to breathe again was pretty hard. Breathing is completely different now. The voice is a million times better — it's like if I finally got to experience what it's like to drive a brand new car and always use to have used cars for instance. That's how my voice feels now. It's easier to sing all the things than ever before and it sounds clearer all because of the no smoking. It's so much better and easier but getting up onstage that afternoon of the show and see what the loud sounds and the vibrations are going to do to me this time. Am I gonna tell them it's not gonna work and I have to fly back? That was a possibility. So that was a pretty anxious moment when they turned the sound up and I felt nothing, no different and that's what my surgeon had told me a month or two before when I saw the x-rays and all that stuff. He cleared me for doing it so I did that and it worked and that was quite a big relief, but there are so many other things that you have to go through. Three months later I had a benefit that I participated in and sang three songs with some local musicians, two KING DIAMOND songs and one MERCY, and that was even better, so it was like, "Wow, this is going to be really interesting. It might be time to see if we can do a couple full shows." That's what we did two months ago and we did more than that actually because the rehearsals for it. We hadn't been playing together in a long, long time so I had a theater in Denmark and we rehearsed there for a week and in six days I did five full shows practically — had a day off then did Sweden Rock and no problems. The breathing and moving around on this new production which is really big, we've never had a production that big before and running around that set, not feeling out of breath at all was very new and very nice to experience. Now these last tests have been done and they went perfect, so now it's a matter of getting out there. We are arranging for everything now, setting everything up the right way. We have a new Internet store for the first time and I know the fans for good reason have been haunting us for this stuff because it's embarrassing. We've been so sloppy with that stuff, of course, for our own sake, too. You can certainly make some money off it to which is good for business, because we like to turn around and invest a lot of it, too. The money we made from these festivals and we invested the whole thing into the production. We're already getting invitations for other festivals next summer and I see us touring Europe, festival appearances, maybe even doing one before that here in the U.S., and then I hope we can do the U.S.and do shows, not club shows but with the full production, maybe sometime in October. We'll see, because they're working on all this stuff. For the U.S., we're just about to set up with a brand new agent over there, so that's going to be a powerhouse and doing things a whole different way. I would say a much bigger scale. Same lineup that we've had for years, so it's all good, and there will be new music, too, down the road. It won't be too long before we start writing some new stuff. So, yeah, a lot of stuff very busy. I'm trying to not be too busy because stress is not a friend of mine anymore.
Full Metal Jackie: Now being more conscious of your health, how has having triple bypass surgery been a life-changing event for you?
Oh, man, you have no idea. [laughs] There are so many things that go into it — just the way you look at life afterwards is certainly different. It's not like you become born again or anything life-changing in that respect; I'm totally the same person. The best way to explain it is, actually… Let's say I'm here at my house and I look out of the windows and now and then I see things through those windows — now it's like I have the double amount of windows. I see so much more, I pay attention to so many more things — the smelling sensation, the taste sensation are enhanced by a hundred because I don't smoke anymore. Taking walks sometimes bring back memories of my childhood because a smell might trigger a memory. For instance a wooden fence, I walked by and I smelled it and suddenly I'm with my parents who are dead now, and with my brother on a vacation in Norway when we were kids and we're walking the Viking ships somewhere, they've been sprayed by this special mist to preserve them and it just triggers memories like that suddenly. It's different, you're more alert, more aware. I don't take anything for granted anymore, I'll tell you that. If I'm not here tomorrow, well, so be it. I don't want that, but I'm much more prepared for that kind of scenario now. It is weird, but also the feeling in the beginning of not knowing. "Can you see me? Can you feel when I do this?" and my wife is like, "Hey, why are you being weird now?" You see people drive to work and we're out walking after the operation and you get that feeling of, "Man, I could have just as well not have been here." Then there's all the stuff that comes with it, the hardship of you can't lift a cup, you can't get out of a chair, you can't do anything. When they cut you up, all the nerves are trying to find each other again, and they still are today. You get these little pains here and there, but I've been told it's going to go on for years. The thing about them having punctured your lungs is that you have to learn to breathe again; it's a very, very weird feeling. I couldn't drive or doing anything in the beginning, of course. I love driving cars, so I went behind the wheel before I was allowed to do it. It was a matter of not being able to move around the steering wheel properly with your arms, but it's just these things that — I want to move on. I don't want to just sit in a chair, and that was the same thing in the hospital, two days after the operation I was up walking around with the help of a nurse, of course. Then when they set me free from that, I was off to a normal department to continue to get better. It was also the more you walked the sooner you'll get out of there and I was walking day and night. It reminded me of lyrics from "The Graveyard", for instance, walking the halls at night, no one was up it was just me walking these empty halls — such strange feelings, but I can tell you I brought so much with me out of there for the next album. I got some of the ultimate horrors waking up from the operation. [it] was the worst I've ever experienced in my life, but when I came to a little bit, my wife was there but I couldn't see her. What I saw was only in black and white and I saw doctors leaning in over me, it could have been in a spaceship, if they exist. They didn't look quite human, it looked weird and then I started remembering that they told me, "You will be on a breathing tube and very uncomfortable." You want to try and breathe on your own, but you can't because you are forced to breathe in a certain way and you can try and give signals to these doctors to let them know that you can breathe on your own but you don't know if you can, you have to learn breathing again. When I came to, I was desperately trying to signal something, but it was like I couldn't communicate; I had this tube in my mouth, I couldn't do anything, I was blinking my eyes, trying anything. I think panic was striking and I tried to pull this tube out of my own mouth and then they came in and tied me down to the bed, they grabbed my hands and my legs and they tied me down. That feeling of being tied down and not being able to communicate, I felt horror, I felt like I was being choked to death slowly because I couldn't breathe properly. I got so far out, had they been able to hear me they would have heard me begging them to please kill me because it felt that bad. I just really wished for them to kill me to end it. Then you wake up later on and find the wife is there and it's like, "Wow, you pulled through." I was on the operating table for seven and a half hours and I was on two days back to back. The first day they had to do an operation for four hours, the day before, where they go in your thigh through a vein — you're actually totally alert. That went well but it looked bad and it had something to do with the way its been in my family so it was hereditary. They said I couldn't have gotten such bad figures in my blood even if I tried eating the worse stuff and smoking 50 cigarettes a day, could not have given me that. I never really ate bad stuff, but there's a lot of things you find out afterwards now that I've been through meetings with nutritionists and my wife has become an expert on this stuff. You find out seafood is great, not shrimp, that thing has the most cholesterol I didn't know that before. Yeah, it's a weird thing, but it hasn't changed anything of my being, the way I am, how I think. It's just broadened my horizon, big time.
Full Metal Jackie: You mentioned new music earlier. Will everything that has happened find its way into this new music?
Oh I'm sure. [laughs] I'm sure there will be. A lot of that stuff that I experienced, that will be woven into a new album. It not be a story of what I experienced, but the feelings behind it, those will come across maybe in other ways. There has been so much in the old albums, too, throughout the career, much more than anyone will ever know is real or real feelings behind it, then you add something to it, to make the story fluent. There are so many more things in the stories and sometimes I really felt like, "Oh, man, you're showing way to much of yourself here," and then I think, "Well, no one's going to know if I don't tell them." It will be a lot of that here, too. It might hit home for a lot of people, maybe even deeper than before.
Full Metal Jackie: Coming from Denmark, your music and stage persona is very European. What's the most unusual way in which living in Texas has affected your songs?
Oh, man. See, the writing process, it doesn't affect it, because people write songs. Different bands use different inspirational moods to help create these songs. Some will like to sit by the ocean, some will like to this and do that for atmospheric influence. I just need a room that is dark, as dark as possible, with enough light to see — that's it. Even when I record vocals, I have just enough black light right over the lyrics so I can see the lyrics in case I need them. Otherwise, the room is black, and then there's a window into the control room. That way I can totally put myself where I want to be in the stories and create all those pictures. Each character that had ever been created, I know intimately, I know all their habits, their this and that. Knowing that while you create them and bring them into the studio when you record your vocals, it's essential so you can really put all your feelings behind what you're doing. So I need a dark room and I still can play guitar, of course, I can barely see what I'm doing, but that's what I need — that's it. A dark room in Denmark is the same as a dark room in the U.S., it's not a big difference for me in that respect. Texas, in some way, is a little closer to Denmark than, for instance, L.A. or New York is. It would have been harder for me to adjust to live in New York. I lived in L.A. for a year and a half and it was too different for me from Denmark. It's a bit more laid back in Texas, I feel. Some people have come and said, "Hey, what about all the Bible stuff?" and "Don't you feel this and that?" and not at all, I don't feel any of that stuff. I feel a lot of people seem to be extraordinarily friendly. I have no problem like that at all. One of my neighbors used to be a priest and very nice person and respectful person, too. He only once invited me to his church he said, "You're welcome anytime you want, if you want. I'm only going to tell you this once because I know what you're doing." [laughs] I was like, "Well, that's very nice of you. You won't see me, but…"
Full Metal Jackie: But that's a nice invitation.
Absolutely. He actually came by… He grew up with BLACK SABBATH and stuff, he liked that kind of music too. It didn't have to be weird just because he was a priest. It's a matter of how people are. I'm sure there are some priests that are so narrow minded that you wouldn't even want to wave at them because you feel like, lightening coming out of their eyes.
Full Metal Jackie: Is there anything you can tell us in terms of a timeline for new tour, new music and anything else, or is everything still up in the air at this point?
It's up in the air, because there's a lot of arrangements going on and negotiations going on, but we are talking next summer. Before that, we're working on finalizing the new record, it's so closed to being finalized. There's a lot of things that have changed, that's why. We went through this with a mindset that I'm going to pass a certain tests to do all this stuff and now it has happened. In the meantime we've tried to develop certain scenarios: if this happens, we should do it this way. Now we've gotten all the right personnel where everything looks so much better than it has ever looked before. So the way we're gonna do things it's going to be different. We're not going to play without the full production, pure and simple. If there's no room for it, then we don't play, it has to be all or nothing, no more playing with a half production and then the other half sits out in the truck, no more. It seems like that something has happened while we've been away, it seems like our style of music has come very full circle and for some reason it seems like we've taken several steps up the ladder without having done anything practically except for escaping death.
Full Metal Jackie: I think you guys have influenced so many bands that are starting to get recognized today and people are finally starting to take notice.
I think that's true, too. There's a lot of different components that are built into us being able to headline those two festivals we were at, at least those stages. We played the second to last band of all the bands on Sweden Rock Festival, headlined the second biggest stage there. MÖTLEY CRÜE headlined the biggest stage at Hellfest. It was packed as far as I could see, their arms were up, people were singing a long and it was mind-blowing — about 40,000 people right there. We played last that first night, the Friday night, but I think MEGADETH would have played last, to be honest, that night, but they had a schedule to catch certain things so they played right before us then they had to be somewhere else to play, I guess. We had full production on the stages we played on, and they were the ones that had the biggest audiences. It was really amazing to see and feel that and also the money that was there that we were able to put into finally doing this right and not just having to figure out to make ends meet and do a half-assed job. It's going to be really cool for the future to come up and really have a show that works out. We started a YouTube channel, too, where we did some interviews with some of the guys, I'm going to show some special footage we have from our rehearsal we have at that theater in Denmark. We were rehearsing the day METALLICA played in Denmark. We went to that show later on, but in the day we were rehearsing and we got to the last song, "Black Horseman", and it was the very end and something was moving out camera around – it was actually sitting on a flat case up, way up in the theater and our lighting engineer was standing in the center of this row and even have pictures of where the flat case was up there. The weird thing is was the camera was actually suddenly moving down, it was pointing downwards, meaning it would have gone into the case. I don't see that's possible and then it moved back up and it was moving a little and some inverted crosses were lighting up on stage and it started focusing in on those and then it stops as if nothing else happened from there on. If someone had moved it around even if there had been a person but there was no one but our lighting engineer there but if someone had moved they could not hold it physically, they could not hold it that still, it's impossible. There was no one there and twice that same day something had screamed at our lighting engineer behind him, there was no one in the theater. He showed me his arm with the hair standing and he said, "God, man, I'm telling you, there's stuff here," and then we show people the video and they're like, "Whoa." We also have a photo — I went out Monday I did a turn around and went to L.A. and [taped a guest appearance on] "That Metal Show" and it was just killer, so many cool people there it was Mark Tremonti was there [from] ALTER BRIDGE, Doug Aldrich from WHITESNAKE was there and the guys from the show and everybody there was just awesome. It was a great experience, but we got to show a picture from Sweden Rock Festival. It was the weirdest I've ever seen. It's me sitting with a lantern on a platform in front of the drum riser and our actress Jodi Cachia, she's from Philadelphia. She should have been standing behind me, but all you see [is] one leg up to her thigh the rest is not there. We'll post that up on our YouTube channel as well, so people can clearly see it. It was taken by a Norwegian called Håkan with a super digital camera; double exposure is not a possibility, you can't cut your leg off and leave it behind and then move the rest of your body so quick that the camera doesn't pick it up. The picture is physically impossible unless you're living in a parallel universe or something and she was in another universe for a split second coming in right when that photo was taken. I don't know if you're familiar with that show "Fringe"; I've seen it quite a few times. I like it, it deals with these possible parallel universes, and if that was the case, we should call "Fringe" [laughs] to take a look at this area, because it is freaky. I saw it at night time in my hotel in Denmark and we were discussing whether we should call Jodi at her hotel and ask her to be careful in the next couple days in case she has an accident and might lose her leg or something. It almost felt like seeing a snapshot of "The Omen" movie, but it's the weirdest thing. It looks like a shadow of her leg of that one leg that is shown, it looks like there is a shadow up against the drum riser, but when you zoom in a little that a black clone of it. There's a shape from the one kick drum where all the shiny metal stuff and the outside of the kick drum you can't see, it's shiny only on one of them. It's so weird, but you should definitely try to check it out once it goes up on our YouTube channel of if you can get a still picture from "That Metal Show". There's so many weird things that follow us. I could tell you more stories but it was so funny. [KING DIAMOND guitarist] Andy La Rocque said to me, "Well, duh, it's not that strange. Take a look at the set. It looks like a big antennae for the occult." It really does. It's a pretty big set. Very dark but it's fun. 8

MUMAKIL Begins Recording New AlbumSwitzerland's death/grind maniacs MUMAKIL have entered the studio to record their third full-length album for an early 2013 release via Relapse Records. The band's first CD in four years is being produced by the bandmembers themselves at Terrier 5 in Geneva, Switzerland and will feature 24 brand new tracks of brutal grindcore with more of a death metal influence than their previous release, "Behold The Failure". Tentative songtitles set to appear on the effort include "Death From Below", "Hailing Regression", "Designed To Fail" and "More Meat For The Grinder".
Commented the band: "This will be our best album in terms of production, riff quality, variation and songwriting. It is going to be a great mix between everything we love in grindcore and death metal, with subjects like war, anger, pain, personal experiences and deceptions, and an overall theme about mankind's permanent will to destroy itself."
MUMAKIL plans to tour in Europe and Canada following the new album's release. More details will be announced shortly.

SPHERIC UNIVERSE EXPERIENCE: 'The Day I Died' Video Released"The Day I Died", the new video from French progressive metallers SPHERIC UNIVERSE EXPERIENCE, can be seen below. The song comes off the band's fourth album, "The New Eve", which will be released on September 11 via Nightmare Records. According to a press release, the CD sees the band "succeed[ing] where most have failed; growing as a band musically and creatively from one album to the next. With 'The New Eve' the band take yet another huge step forward creating one of the most compelling melodic prog metal releases of 2012, bringing freshness again to the ever expanding genre."
SPHERIC UNIVERSE EXPERIENCE began in 1999 when guitarist Vince Benaim decided to create a progressive metal band with a few friends. In summer of 2004, S.U.E. signed a worldwide record deal with the French label Replica Records as well as an American licensing deal with Nightmare Records. In 2005 the band released their debut album, "Mental Torments".
In 2007 S.U.E. released "Anima", a strong follow-up building on what they created and achieved with their debut. Like their previous album, those around the band helped them achieve their vision.
2007 and 2008 saw the band perform at two ProgPower festivals: ProgPower Scandinavia in 2007 and ProgPower USA in 2008. Their shows captivated the audience expanding SPHERIC UNIVERSE EXPERIENCE's fan base while exposing them to more fans of the genre. While touring with U.K. progressive metallers THRESHOLD, the band found time to write and record their third album entitled "Unreal". The CD was released worldwide in May 2009. "Unreal" saw the band expanding and strengthening their sound even more. With "Unreal", the band added another notch to their belt of spectacular sound of technical and melodic metal.
"The New Eve" track listing:
01. Shut Up
02. The New Eve
03. Escape
04. Never Heal
05. Angel

RUSH's Secret To Longevity RevealedNick Krewen of GRAMMY.com recently conducted an interview with bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee of Canadian rock legends RUSH. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
GRAMMY.com: Your first concert for the upcoming tour is Sept. 7 in Manchester, N.H. Is touring easier these days?
Geddy: Easier? I find it more stressful than when I was younger. I think the physical part of it takes its toll on me, and the other guys I know for sure. Staying healthy becomes a more difficult challenge, and as the tour winds on, nerves fray in a different way than they used to. Although, you have more confidence than when you were younger, and more command of your instrument [and], as a result, more command of your audience's attention, which makes it easier. There is kind of a physical price you pay as the tour winds on, whereas when I was younger I could be in almost any condition, get out there and bang it off. I'm grateful for the audiences that we have, wherever we go. But it's a difficult thing for me to do right now.
GRAMMY.com: What do you think is the reason for RUSH's longevity?
Geddy: It's a little mysterious to me. There's a particular obvious chemical reaction we have with each other as players. We all like making the same kind of music, which I think is the one thing that kills a lot of bands: the fact that their tastes start changing, and the thing they want to put in their music is not something the other guys agree with. We don't have that problem here. The other thing that breaks up most bands is interpersonal relationships. We don't have that problem either, because we do get along well and we respect each other. Most of the time the biggest concern we have is, who is going to say something funnier? Where we get into one-upmanship is in the comedy department, not the music department. I think those things combined have really helped keep this band going.

SLIPKNOT's SHAWN CRAHAN Reacts To Charges Against PAUL GRAY's DoctorSLIPKNOT co-founder/conceptualist/percussionist Shawn M. Crahan (a.k.a. Clown; pictured below) spoke to DesMoinesRegister.com about the involuntary manslaughter charges brought against a Des Moines, Iowa, doctor today (Wednesday, September 5) in connection with the death of the band's bassist, Paul Gray. Physician Daniel Baldi is accused of prescribing large amounts of narcotic painkillers to patients who later died of overdoses, including Gray.
Asked about the charges against Baldi, Crahan said, "None of it is going to bring back our brother Paul."
He added, "This epidemic of this sort of activity is becoming more and more … evident. It truly is becoming a problem amongst people. And it trickles all the way down to the youth. And awareness needs to be brought about."
Crahan made it clear that he was referring to "not only substance abuse but the ability to acquire substances, to get chemicals and the efficiency of it."
"Hopefully justice will be served," he said.
According to charging documents released at the doctor's court hearing today, Baldi is believed to have unintentionally caused the death of Paul Gray by writing "high-dose prescription narcotics to a known drug addict" starting on December 27, 2005.
Paul was found dead in a hotel room in May 2010 in a suburb of Des Moines, Iowa, leaving behind his wife Brenna and daughter October. He was 38 years old.

BRET MICHAELS: Why SLASH Wasn't The Right Guitarist For POISONIn a recent interview with the Austin American-Statesman, POISON singer Bret Michaels was asked why Slash wasn't chosen to be the guitarist in POISON when he auditioned for the band prior to forming GUNS N' ROSES in 1985.
"Slash is one of my all-time favorite guitar players and I believe he would have steered our sound a little more in the AEROSMITH direction," Bret said. "He was basically the same guy he is today. What you see is what you get. It never really had a chance to work out or not. The band decided C.C. [DeVille] was the best choice for us."
In a 2010 interview with Classic Rock Revisited, Slash explained how his POISON audition came about, stating, "I was living in L.A. and I had just gotten done working in a band with Axl [Rose], actually, called HOLLYWOOD ROSE. Steven Adler was in that band as well. I just quit. I told Axl I couldn’t handle it anymore and I walked. That was right after the first time Axl and I ever worked together. Matt, the original guitar player for POISON, who was actually a pretty cool guy, had gotten his wife pregnant or they were getting married or something like that. He was moving back to Pennsylvania. He goes, 'You should try out for POISON.' I hated POISON but in those days you did whatever you had to do to keep moving. Being very ambitious, as I was, I went and auditioned for POISON. I ended up being one of two guitar players left that they were going to pick from. I remember kicking the shit out of the songs they had. There was no denying that I could play them but there was an issue about makeup and stuff. Bobby Dall [POISON bassist] asked me what kind of shoes I was going to wear. I was like, 'What?' It was kind of obvious that this was going to go nowhere. As I was walking out of the audition, C.C. DeVille was walking in. He had on pancake makeup and a ton of hairspray. I actually remember thinking right then, 'That should be the guy.' The next day I got a call from Bobby and he said, 'You know, you are great and all but I think we are going to pass on you and go with this other guy.' It was C.C. and it really did make all the sense in the world. I was in a couple of bands after that and then we started GUNS N' ROSES." 3

VINCE NEIL Explains Las Vegas Parking-Lot OutburstMÖTLEY CRÜE frontman Vince Neil has offered his version of the events that led to his outburst at a Las Vegas parking lot.
Neil was videotaped late last month screaming at a group of Miracle Mile Shops parking attendants after a valet refused to return the singer's Rolls-Royce because Neil couldn't produce a claim ticket.
In the clip, Neil could be seen walking over to the valet booth, yelling, "Give me my fucking car! Give me my fucking car! Give me my car!" and then banging on the window.
Vince continued, "Call the police! This is my car. What the fuck is wrong with you?"
After the parking attendants apparently told Vince that they wouldn't hand over the vehicle because he couldn't produce a parking ticket, Vince responded, "They didn't give me a fucking ticket!"
According to TMZ.com sources, police were called to the scene, but by the time they arrived, Vince had already taken off, and the valet company decided against filing a report.
In a statement released exclusively to the lifestyle program "More Access" on Las Vegas's Fox 5 television station, Neil said about the incident, "I was not given a valet ticket when I first parked my Rolls-Royce. They then refused to give me the car even though it was parked only ten feet away. I gave them my license and told them to simply open the car and look at my registration, and again they refused. This could have been avoided except for the stupidity and incompetence of the valets and security." 1
