In support of Hard Rock Café's "Pinktober" charity campaign to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer, Dutch female-fronted symphonic metallers WITHIN TEMPTATION will perform an exclusive unplugged set at Hard Rock Cafe in Cologne, Germany on November 17.

The performance is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be followed by a signing session.

Tickets for this event will be sold exclusively at Hard Rock Café's Rock Shop in Cologne for 10 euros.

The first 20 visitors who present a ticket for WITHIN TEMPTATION's E-Werk concerts in Cologne on November 16 and November 17 will be granted free admission to the performance at Hard Rock Café.

Commented singer Sharon den Adel: "Breast cancer remains one of the most common life-threatening cancers affecting women: One out of eight women will get breast cancer in her life. Every 13 minutes a woman dies of breast cancer. It is therefore very important to keep a high awareness level of the subject in the general public. I am very happy to make a small contribution with my band to a regular event such as Hard Rock Café's Pinktober campaign."

According to Wired.com, supervising sound editors for "The Thing" — director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.'s remake-masked-as-a-prequel of John Carpenter's 1982 cult horror classic about an extraterrestrial marauder wreaking havoc on a chilly Antarctic compound — used heavy-metal singers, various animals and a hyperventilating actress to invest the film creature with the creepy vibe.

Beyond the animal kingdom, the sound editors blended in beastly grunts from Dylan Hromadka of the Santa Clarita, California death-metal band RESURRECTING JUDAS.

"Death-metal bands are gnarly," laughed Scott Hecker, one of the two supervising sound editors. "These singers really do sound like the devil."

John Carpenter's "The Thing" was itself a remake of the landmark 1951 movie "The Thing From Another World" starring James Arness as an alien from outer space who is really a violent veggie but looks like a man or Frankenstein's monster.

CRIMSON GLORY singer Todd LaTorre will guest on "Hanging Rock", the second solo album from Tommy Vitaly, the guitar player for the Italian power metal band SEVENGATES, Due in 2012 via IceWarrior Records , the CD will feature "fantastic cover and booklet art" by Felipe Machado Franco, who has previously worked with RHAPSODY, AXEL RUDI PELL, BLIND GUARDIAN, AXENSTAR and ICED EARTH.

LED ZEPPELIN legend Robert Plant was honored in the "Album Of The Year" category at the 10th annual Americana Music Association Honors & Awards, which was held last night (Thursday, October 13) at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Plant was nominated for his work on the "Band of Joy" album, his first release since recording the six-time Grammy-winning bluegrass album "Raising Sand" with collaborator Alison Krauss in 2007.

Plant stated that he had been "dreaming about American music and coming over here" since he was 12.

He added, "I stole a great deal with my old companions, and I was very fortunate (in) the last few years to be welcomed by some spectacular people, especially in this town."

"Band of Joy" sold 49,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 5 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD enlists the help of an array of U.S. musicians, all of whom performed with Plant on tour.

The BAND OF JOY lineup includes Patty Griffin on vocals; Darrell Scott on multiple instruments and vocals; Byron House on bass and vocals; Marco Giovino on drums, percussion and vocals; and co-producer Buddy Miller on guitar and vocals.

Legendary Swedish doomsters CANDLEMASS have inked a deal with Napalm Records. The band is currently working on material for its farewell album, which is tentatively scheduled for a spring 2012 release.

Commented CANDLEMASS in a statement: "Now it is official, Swedish doom 'meisters' CANDLEMASS have signed with Austrian Napalm Records for their 11th and last studio album. The band is very happy and excited about this and are looking forward to work with such a great and growing label as Napalm, home of cool bands like MONSTER MAGNET, KARMA TO BURN and ISOLE."

CANDLEMASS celebrated its 25-year anniversary by performing an extra-long, two-and-a-half-hour set at Debaser Medis in Stockholm on December 18, 2010. The band's classic debut album, "Epicus Doomicus Metalicus", was played in its entirety for the first time with the original singer Johan Längqvist.

In conjunction with Rise Above Records, Metal Blade will release the double-disc live album "Anniversary" from U.K. mainstays and international cult act CATHEDRAL on November 21. According to a press release, "Anniversary" captures CATHEDRAL in all their raw and live glory and marks the first official live album to be ever released by the doom metal legends. Legendary U.S. metal band RIOT will release its new album, "Immortal Soul", which will be released on October 21 in Japan via Marquee/Avalon; October 26 in Scandinavia; October 28 in Germany; Austria and Switzerland; October 31 in the rest of Europe; and November 22 in the U.S. and Canada through Steamhammer/SPV. The effort will be available as a limited digipack with two bonus tracks, double gatefold LP (colored blue vinyl) and regular jewel case.

"Immortal Soul" sees Tony Moore, Mark Reale, Don Van Stavern and Bobby Jarzombek — the lineup responsible for the band's hugely acclaimed "Thundersteel" (1988) and "The Privilege Of Power" (1990) albums — reunited once more, together with Mike Flyntz who as the additional live guitarist helped bring these two acclaimed albums to life on stage.

According to The Peterborough Examiner, all charges against former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach were dropped Tuesday morning (October 11) in a Peterborough, Ontario, Canada court at the request of the Crown, citing no reasonable prospect of conviction.

Bach was charged assault, possession of marijuana and mischief on November 15, 2010 after he allegedly bit the hand of a bartender trying to throw him out of Riley's Olde Towne Pub in Peterborough.

A surveillance video posted on TMZ.com showed the singer smashing his wine glass on the ground morning and walking towards the entrance of the establishment after he was asked to the leave the bar due to his allegedly rowdy behavior.

A staff member reported Bach bit him on the hand while he was trying to restrain Bach until police arrived.

Bach was in Peterborough dealing with the estate of his father who passed away.

Bach's lawyer, Jim Hauraney, told The Peterborough Examiner parts of the tape, including the scuffle with Riley's owner Jim Kakouros, were inconclusive.

He said Bach would be making a $700 donation to a city charity to account for the broke wine glass.

Kakouros told The Peterborough Examiner he was never told that the charges would be withdrawn, and learned about the decision via the paper's web site Tuesday afternoon.

"I was more surprised that that's how the process worked," he said.

SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan has confirmed that the band has plans to record another studio album.

SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor has been ambivalent about doing a new studio album following the death in May 2010 of the group's bassist, Paul Gray, although Crahan and drummer Joey Jordison have been much more confident about the band recording again.

SLIPKNOT completed a European festival run this past summer, which marked the band's first live gigs since Gray's passing.

Asked by U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine about the band's future plans, Crahan replied, "There's plans [to make another record] but that's a way off. No one will push it, because it's going to be a big one. It'll be closer to 'Iowa', but it'll be sadder and crazier. And really thought provoking, it could even be conceptual."

He continued, "We're still taking some time to reflect on our brother [Gray]. Everybody needs to be collecting thoughts so they can get it out and no one has really had time to collect thoughts yet. But we're the fucking 'KNOT. And when we come out, you'll know your band is done."

Speaking about the prospect of recording a new SLIPKNOT CD, Taylor told Kerrang! magazine in August, "It's still too soon. At least that's how I feel. I'm not ready to make a SLIPKNOT album. I think there will be a day when we do. But for me, doing it now wouldn't make sense.

"You can't do a three-week tour then jump into the studio, especially after something like this. It makes more sense to do a few more tours and reconnect as a band first.

"If we jumped right in, it wouldn't be about the absence. It would be about the rest of us. We were the nine, but there's a piece missing. We should allow people to pay their respects before we come out with new music. We should do this right."

Jordison told The Pulse Of Radio not long ago that he thinks the band's next album could be its most intense. "We're a family, and losing a family member sucks," he said. "But you can't help that, but you need to move on and I think that what we're gonna do might be the most powerful thing that we've ever created."

According to the Corpus Christi Caller Times, young pastor Jason Houlihan and his friend David Pallotti introduced a metalcore worship format at St John's United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas to offer a different perspective of the church scene where everyone can feel welcome.

Thy Kingdom Come is the name of the service and also the band that performs Christian metalcore — a mixture of heavy metal music with Christian lyrics — at St. John's United Methodist Church every Sunday.

Palotti, 21, said, "We go to a lot of Christian metal shows and we saw all those people who didn't go to church because they were judges. That's not what church is supposed to be."

Since it launched three years ago, the metal service has attracted a conjuration aged between 16 and 26. Houlihan said, "It's been a way to connect with people who wouldn't otherwise come to church." Afterwards he invites anyone with any concerns about their lives to wait behind and chat. "We'll just hash it out. We might not always agree, but we respect each other," he said.
