DEEP PURPLE - Four Live Double CDs Due August 16thEagle Rock Entertainment has announced the August 16th release of four double-discs of the deepest of DEEP PURPLE’s onstage action: Scandinavian Nights, In Concert 1970-1972, Live In London and MK III: The Final Concerts.
Scandinavian Nights, from 1970, features the most classic of Purple lineups, lead guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord, vocalist Ian Gillan, drummer Ian Paice and bassist Roger Glover. Recorded for Swedish radio while on tour in support of their groundbreaking In Rock album, the band, a well-oiled machine of epic proportions, rips through elongated versions of 'Speed King', 'Into The Fire', 'Child In Time', 'Wring That Neck', a cover of the ROLLING STONES’ 'Paint It Black' (as a Paice drum solo), 'Mandrake Root' and 'Black Night'.
The same lineup In Concert 1970-1972 recorded two shows for the BBC. The 1970 gig is four songs stretched out to almost 50 minutes in true DP style like no other band ever - 'Speed King', 'Child In Time', 'Wring That Neck' and 'Mandrake Root'. In the ’72 concert, they performed every song off their classic Machinehead album (except 'Pictures Of Home') including a 21-minute version of 'Space Truckin''.
This is the first time Live In London has been released in North America on CD. Complete with new frontman David Coverdale and new bassist Glenn Hughes (essentially giving the band two lead singers), the band were back home in London in 1974 performing in support of the Burn album. The band, indeed, burned through the title track, 'Might Just Take Your Life', 'Lay Down Stay Down', 'Mistreated', 'Smoke On The Water' and, on Disc #2, 'You Fool No One' and 'Space Truckin’'.
A year later, with no idea its lead guitarist and co-founding member Ritchie Blackmore had already decided to leave the band, Deep Purple, with Coverdale and Hughes now solidly entrenched and performing magnificently, embarked on a European tour in support of Stormbringer. MK III The Final Concerts excitingly documents Blackmore’s swan song with the band on 'Burn', 'Stormbringer', 'Gypsy', 'Lady Double Dealer', 'Mistreated', 'Smoke On The Water', 'You Fool No One', 'Space Truckin’', 'Going Down/Highway Star', and alternate versions of 'Mistreated' and 'You Fool No One'. 3

GOTTHARD To Release \'Homegrown - Alive In Lugano\' In SeptemberSwiss hard rockers GOTTHARD will release a live album entitled "Homegrown - Alive In Lugano" on September 30 via Nuclear Blast Records. On September 2, a previously unreleased track entitled "The Train", featuring the band's late singer Steve Lee on vocals, will be made available.
"Homegrown - Alive In Lugano" contains a live recording of GOTTHARD's July 17, 2010 concert in Lugano, which turned out to be one of the band's last performances with Lee.
Steve was killed on October 5, 2010 in what has been described as a freak road accident in Nevada. Due to Lee's sudden passing, the CD's release was postponed — until now.
"Lugano was where it all began and so the circle is closed of all that we've experienced with our friend Steve Lee," comments GOTTHARD bassist Marc Lynn.
"The memories of the past 20 years on stage with Steve are brought again to life intensively with this album. They reflect the memorable times that we were able to enjoy on the Mount Olympus of rock 'n' roll."
The concert in Lugano took place during a local HOG Rally, a big annual event organized by Harley-Davidson bikers. Being able to play for the Harley circle in the band's hometown was an unforgettable experience. All the GOTTHARD musicians are enthusiastic Harley-Davidson bikers themselves and perform at such events and take part in rallies at every opportunity they get. In addition, "Homegrown" was one of the very few concerts GOTTHARD got to play in its hometown.
"Steve was warmer and more cheerful than he had been in a long time," GOTTHARD guitarist Freddy Scherer said. "The chemistry between him and the audience couldn't have been more intense, despite the fact that there were more than 20,000 people standing on the piazza. It is a stroke of good luck that we recorded this memorable concert, for unfortunately it was one of the last ones with Steve."
"Music has allowed us to travel round the whole world together during the last 20 years," GOTTHARD guitarist Leo Leoni explains. "In doing so, we've shared lots of unforgettable moments that rank among the best times of our lives. Anyhow, returning to Lugano has always been something special. It's the place we belong to and where we have strong and deep roots."
"Homegrown - Alive In Lugano" marks the end of an era for GOTTHARD, which is currently searching for a new lead singer. 6

BLACKMORE\'S NIGHT Singer CANDICE NIGHT To Release Debut Solo Album Part fantasy, part weaver of magic, part willow the wisp: singer and song writer Candice Night releases her debut solo single, "Call It Love". The single is the first taste of Night's first solo adult contemporary album, "Reflections", set for release on September 27. "Call It Love" is now available for purchase on iTunes.
Commenting on "Call It Love", Night states, "So many people are so afraid of the word 'love.' It's all-consuming, life-changing and can leave you so open and vulnerable that saying 'I love you' for the first time can be a scary moment. We hide behind so many other words to describe the emotion: fate, a dream, luck that we met the right one... but once you give in and surrender to the truth of being in love, there is a comfort and a warmth of completion that doesn't come until you give yourself fully to that incredible feeling of being in love. And there is nothing else like it."
Night was born and raised on Long Island, New York, and is often dubbed "one of the most beautiful women in the world" by the international media. She is frequently identified as a mix of Karen Carpenter's voice and a young Stevie Nicks, for her flowing skirts, but her ethereal voice and lyrics are all her own. As a frontwoman for the band BLACKMORE'S NIGHT, she also plays seven medieval instruments on stage, lending to the excitement and mysticism of the music of her group.
Night sang background for DEEP PURPLE in 1993; and on RITCHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW CD "Stranger In Us All", she co-wrote four songs. She received a gold record in Japan for her co-writing efforts and one of her songs, "Black Masquerade", was chosen as "Best Song Of The Year" in 1995. Her song "Ariel" won accolades in Europe and charted at #2, as well as being the official German soccer song, and "Black Masquerade" was #1 in Japan.
Night is the lead singer and writes all the lyrics for the songs for her current group BLACKMORE'S NIGHT. Their first album, "Shadow Of The Moon", earned Night a second gold record in 1997. Since then, she has been awarded gold records and other many international awards for her writing and performances in BLACKMORE'S NIGHT. In addition, Night has appeared on a PBS special. The most recent BLACKMORE'S NIGHT album, "Autumn Sky", entered the Billboard New Age chart at No. 1. Many celebrities have gathered to see Night perform live in concert, including Sarah Brightman, Cuba Gooding Jr. and many others.
Night is now releasing her first solo project, "Reflections", which is an adult contemporary album that showcases a different side to her extraordinary talent and voice. "Reflections" is emanated from Night's personal experiences as a woman, devoted mother and musician.
Allow yourself a chance to get lost in the passions, the mysteries, and the ever-changing kaleidoscope of Candice Night — reflected in her vocals, her lyrics and her music. 5

\'The World Needs\' DISTURBED, Says TRIVIUM FrontmanTRIVIUM guitarist/vocalist Matt Heafy and GODSMACK drummer Shannon Larkin, whose respective bands are currently on the road with DISTURBED as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival tour, spoke to Artisan News about the speculation regarding DISTURBED's future, which DISTURBED singer David Draiman started last month when he hinted that the group's current tour could be its last for a while — if not for good.
When asked if he has heard grumblings about a DISTURBED split on the Mayhem tour, Heafy said, "As tours go, it's like high school, so anytime you hear anything, it spreads like wildfire and it always changes up a little bit. But I've said to the guys in the band myself, even last night, and I'll say it here… The world needs that band. We're big fans of them, we look up to them. I don't know what's going on, I don't know what the deal. I'm sure it's a lot of rumor-mill stuff and there's some stuff… No one really knows what's going on but them. They're one of the best bands in what they do. There's so many other bands that are gonna try to take that, and they're the kings at it — they can actually play and sing what they make. There's so many bands that can't do that, there's so many bands that can't perform what they say they can on their records. And DISTURBED are an amazing bunch of guys. They treated us better on [the recent] Australian [leg of the 'Music As A Weapon'] tour than any band's ever treated us. So [I] at least [hope] for them to stay around so they can keep bringing us out." 6

AMORAL: Another New Song Available For Streaming"(Won't Go) Home", a brand new song from the Finnish metal/hard rock outfit AMORAL, can be streamed using the SoundCloud player below. The track comes off the band's new album, "Beneath", which is scheduled for release in October.
Whereas the CD's first single, "Same Difference", leaned towards hard rock, "(Won't Go) Home", with its riff-oriented structure and growling vocals, represents the heavier side of the new LP.
"'(Won't Go) Home' is a heavy and technical track through and through," singer Ari Koivunen said. "Masi's [Hukari, guitar] Indian-flavored solo is also one of my favorites. Vocal-wise, this song was the hardest to pull off, as my voice was pretty blown after two weeks of singing in the studio. I ended up recording the vocals by myself during the small hours, and I'm very happy with the results."
