Original ALICE COOPER Band Performs At REVOLVER GOLDEN GODS AWARDSShock-rock godfather Alice Cooper received the "Golden God Award" — which is given to one special honoree a year who embodies the spirit of hard rock and metal — at the third annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards, which took place last night (Wednesday, April 20) at Club Nokia in Downtown Los Angeles.
The original ALICE COOPER band — consisting of rhythm guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, drummer Neal Smith, plus Steve Hunter standing-in for the late Glen Buxton — played four songs at the event: "Eighteen", "Under My Wheels", "Billion Dollar Babies" and "School's Out". Video footage of their performance can be viewed below.
Alice Cooper was inducted into the 2011 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame on March 14 at New York City's Waldorf Astoria. Cooper was inducted by recent touring partner Rob Zombie, who said during his introduction, "Alice Cooper invented the rock show. Before Alice Cooper, there was no rock show. They're more than a band. They were more like a murderous gang of drag queens — in a good way."
Cooper and the original Alice Cooper band played "Eighteen", "Under My Wheels" and "School's Out", after which Alice gave his acceptance speech, "We've always been a hard-rock band," he said. "We just wanted to decorate it a little bit differently." He also saluted guitarist Glen Buxton, who died of complications from pneumonia in 1997, calling him "the heart and soul of the band, as black and dark as it may be." 2

New WHIPLASH Lineup Performs In GreeceVideo footage of the brand new touring lineup of New Jersey thrashers WHIPLASH performing the song "The Burning Of Atlanta" live at An Club in Athens, Greece on April 4, 2011 can be viewed below.
Commented WHIPLASH guitarist/vocalist Tony Portaro: "It was an honor to unveil the new WHIPLASH 'Power And Pain 2011 Tour' in Greece. It was the maiden performance there for WHIPLASH and the reception was fantastic.
"We followed up the Athens and Thessaloniki shows with a performance in Italy where the crowd was also thrashing like mad. We cannot wait to return, but we are very much looking forward to this year's Hellfest, where we will be performing on Saturday, June 18 with SCORPIONS, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, THIN LIZZY, CORONER, KREATOR, SODOM, DESTRUCTION, BAD BRAINS, D.R.I. and many more."
WHIPLASH recently parted ways with the group's original drummer, Tony Scaglione, and replaced him with Dan Foord of the U.K.-based metal band SIKTH.
Commented Foord: "It's an honor to be asked to join one of the pioneers of thrash metal. I grew up on thrash so it wasn't a hard decision to make when I was asked to come and play with WHIPLASH. I'm looking forward to writing new music and getting on the road, doing my utmost to win over the WHIPLASH fans."
WHIPLASH is a three-piece power trio hailing from New Jersey. The band was assembled back in 1984 when Tony Portaro (guitar, vocals) and Scaglione joined forces, then recruited Tony Bono on bass.
"Unborn Again", the latest album from WHIPLASH, was released in 2009 via Pulverised Records. The CD was recorded at Mozart Studio with Harris Johns. The band mixed and mastered the album at The Music Lab in Berlin, Germany. The cover artwork was created by Ed Repka (DEATH, ATHEIST, MEGADETH, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, POSSESSED). 1

EXODUS Guitarist To Perform With SLAYER At \'Big Four\' Show In CaliforniaGary Holt from veteran San Francisco Bay Area thrashers EXODUS will once again act as SLAYER's guest guitarist for this Saturday's (April 23) "Big Four" show in Indio, California, temporary filling in for Jeff Hanneman who is still recovering from surgery.
In a recent interview with Austria's Stormbringer.at webzine, SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo stated about the decision to hire Holt as the initial temporary replacement for Hanneman, who is recovering from an infection thought to have been caused by a spider bite, "Well, that was a hard decision to make. We had to think to ourselves, 'Do we cancel — again? Or what do we do? Do we keep going?' It was a difficult decision, but we had to make it — to find a guitar player to take Jeff's place until Jeff gets better. And Gary, really, was a no-brainer — meaning, we didn't have to think about it. Because at Hellfest in France [in 2010], Kerry [King, SLAYER guitarist] and myself were watching EXODUS. And SLAYER and EXODUS go waaay back. We go back to '83 or '84 when we first got together and did shows up in San Francisco together. So we saw Gary play with EXODUS [again last year], and we loved it. And Gary's performance was outstanding. So the first person that came to our minds was Gary — to take the place for Jeff. Again, it was difficult to make that decision, but we had to do it to fulfill our shows; we couldn't cancel again."
Hanneman underwent emergency surgery on his right arm in January. He is now recuperating at home and is expected to make a full recovery. He will return to the SLAYER lineup as soon as he has fully recovered.
While Hanneman's doctors were not able to definitively identify the infection's origin, they diagnosed necrotizing fasciitis, an infection caused by bacteria. According to WebMD, necrotizing fasciitis can destroy skin, fat, and the tissue covering the muscles. The disease sometimes is called "flesh-eating" bacteria. 8

TWISTED TOWER DIRE: New Song Available For Streaming Virginia-based classic metal outfit TWISTED TOWER DIRE has completed work on its fifth full-length album, "Make It Dark", for a May 3 North American release via Italy's Cruz Del Sur Music. According to a press release, the CD is "probably the most mature album the band has written to date. With a direct approach, the band has been able to write a very compact-sounding release, made of some immediate hit songs as well as others marked with more traditional TWISTED TOWER DIRE taste. 'Make It Dark' is the sum of those elements which are the pillars of rock/metal music in general and that are so greatly expressed by the band in this release: guitar and vocal melodies above the standards, catchy refrains and most important of all, the feeling that each and every one of these songs bears the potential to become a new metal classic! Strengthened by Chris Salamone's (WHILE HEAVEN WEPT) post-studio work, it features cover art by U.K. artist Martin Hanford (SLOUGH FEG, BAL-SAGOTH, WARHAMMER)."
The song "White Ghost" from "Make It Dark" is available for streaming at Apochs.net.
