WENDY DIO Says HEAVEN & HELL Should Carry On Under Different Name Wendy Dio, the wife/manager of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio, has told VH1 Radio that she encourages the surviving members of HEAVEN & HELL — Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice — to work together again under a different moniker.
"I don't know what they're doing right now," she said. "I know that Geezer's been asked several times, and he's just ... he took it very hard. I don't really know what they're doing right now. They should do something else, with Vinny, too. I mean, the band was amazing, an amazing band and they should carry on to do something. It won't be called HEAVEN & HELL but whatever they call it, it will be great, it will be amazing."
On July 24, 2010, Iommi, Butler and Appice performed at the High Voltage festival at Victoria Park in London, England as a tribute to their fallen bandmate, Ronnie James Dio. They were joined festival by legendary former DEEP PURPLE and BLACK SABBATH man Glenn Hughes and Norwegian vocalist Jorn Lande, who sings for power metallers MASTERPLAN and recently released his own tribute to Ronnie. 18

ROOT: "The Revelation" DLP Re-releaseRoot’s “The Revelation” is unquestionably one of the most mysterious releases in this enigmatic band’s catalog. Although it was originally never intended to be officially released, it was eventually unearthed and released on CD. That CD, however, does no justice to the music it contains and was not even acknowledged as an official release by some band members. The details surrounding the recording of “The Revelation” are nearly as obscure as the music itself. Root’s debut album, “Zjeveni,” was released in 1990 and was recorded entirely in Czech. When Root began recording their second album they chose to present the lyrics in English in order to spread their message of darkness even further. At the same time, the idea was presented to also re-record the “Zjeveni” album with English vocals. Because it was never intended for actual release, this version appears only in a raw, unmixed form. In many ways, this primitive sound is more akin to Root’s sound on their demos than to that of their early albums. Another curious element of “The Revelation” is the inclusion of additional intros recorded and added to the album that are not present on “Zjeveni.” Virtually nothing else is known about how this particular recording was made or discovered. It does, however, deserve a formal place alongside the many other classic Root releases and this proper issue of “The Revelation” should ensure that it achieves its rightful status. 3

Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson RIPIt is with great sadness that this morning the Quietus is having to report that Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson of Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, Coil and X-TG has died. He was 55, and reportedly passed away in his sleep. The news was broken in the early hours of the morning by Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti, who tweeted "Our dearest beautiful Sleazy left this mortal coil as he slept in peace last night.words cannot express our grief". The Throbbing Gristle website simply features Sleazy's name, and the dates of his life: 1955 - 2010.
Only recently Sleazy had been in London for what will now be Throbbing Gristle's final ever concert at the Village Underground venue. Read our interview with Sleazy, conducted just a few months ago, here. Our thoughts are with Cosey Fanni Tutti, Chris Carter, Genesis P-Orridge, TG's manager Paul Smith and all Sleazy's friends and family.
Robin "Scanner" Rimbaud contacted the Quietus to pay tribute: "Sleazy was the sweetest gentleman. I remember him telling me after the very first Scanner CD in 1992 that it was the first album he'd listened to all the way through from start to finish in a long time and that really touched me, given that I'd been a TG fan since 1980. We remained friends since then and I will miss him a hollow heart indeed. I hope there's a hellish handsome angel out there that has kidnapped him for eternal naughtiness." 8

TARJA TURUNEN - Dreamer’s Box Set Coming SoonFormer NIGHTWISH singer TARJA TURUNEN has issued the following update:
"Let me say that I was not the only Finn whose face got serious when the plane landed at the airport in Helsinki. Why on earth our ancestors decided to stay here and make a living in such cold place? I don’t get it. Yesterday, -9° and today it is snowing a lot.
Nevertheless, the white blanket and the silence that comes with it, is beautiful. Something to miss while traveling through very different sceneries.
Well, here I am anyway trying to survive without getting cold before my Xmas and forthcoming rock shows.
I love this idea I started some years ago of 'coming home for Christmas' mood. Ending the year in Finland and offering some church concerts is always relaxing for mind and soul.
The music in my Christmas concerts is really different compared with what I’ve been doing these last months. It’s a nice refreshing change.
ALICE COOPER tour was an awesome experience. Mr. Cooper himself was so kind and told me many nice and supportive words about my singing and music. I truly hope to see him once again in the near future. I want to thank him and his talented crew and band for this great opportunity. It was fun!
When I read for the first time that we were going to have a show in the city of Bamberg, Germany, I thought that this might be just another small, normal, regular German city. I was SO wrong. It is indeed such a beautiful, old city. It was wonderful to walk around the old part of the city, take some pictures like a real tourist. Even the weather was perfect on that day!
Here I am (photo above) in my backstage signing 500 photos for a special box set of What Lies Beneath that will be coming out very soon! I am sure you will be informed about it in my web page.
I named it the Dreamer’s Box Set.
It was a nice surprise for me to receive James Kottak (SCORPIONS) visiting our show in Berlin during the tour. I met him last time in Buenos Aires where I was another Scorpion’s fan at their show in Luna Park. Thanks James for coming to say hello!
I had a really rough time in Paris with the album promotion after my amazing show in Zurich. It was just so lovely to sing for Swiss people once again.
I had to leave almost right after the show to Paris by train. The whole next day I spent talking about What Lies Beneath that is finally going to be released in France via XIII Bis Records on 29th of November. I am very happy. Thanks to my patient and loyal French fans.
I didn’t remember how beautiful and old the city of Lyon is. Last time my visit in Lyon was in 2005 and then there was NO time at all to look around. There was not enough time for it this time either, I must say. Though I had a chance to walk a bit around the old city and I was blown away.
I had a nice signing session there with my kind fans. There were even some people from Africa and USA coming to say hi to a Finnish person in France…'sometimes I wonder.'
Another part of this tour is over and everything is packed and we are ready to move on.
I’ll see you soon in my Christmas concerts here in the cold winter wonderland. 15

GUNS AXL ROSE Vs. ACTIVISION: Court Documents Posted OnlineGUNS N' ROSES frontman and sole original member Axl Rose has sued game publisher Activision for $20 million. Rose claims in his lawsuit that the company's use of the GUNS song "Welcome To The Jungle" in Guitar Hero III violated an agreement the publisher made with him not to use any images of former GUNS guitarist Slash in the game.
A copy of the court documents filed by Rose's attorneys can be found at RadarOnline.com (PDF file).
The suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that Activision persuaded Rose to authorize the use of "Jungle" by telling him that the game would not feature any reference or mention of not only Slash, but his post-GUNS band VELVET REVOLVER. According to the suit, "(Activision) began spinning a web of lies and deception to conceal its true intentions to not only feature Slash and VR prominently in GH III but also promote the game by emphasizing and reinforcing an association between Slash and GUNS N' ROSES and the band's song 'Welcome to the Jungle'."
Rose apparently found out that a character resembling Slash would appear in Guitar Hero II and immediately refused to allow "Jungle" to be used, but claims that Activision lied to him and said the image was just being used for marketing purposes. However, the singer became enraged when he got a copy of Guitar Hero III, which featured the Slash character heavily in the game and even on the cover.
Rose also claims that the GUNS song "Sweet Child O' Mine" was used in an online promotion for Guitar Hero III despite being licensed only for Guitar Hero II.
Rose's lawyer, Skip Miller, said, "This lawsuit is about protecting GUNS N' ROSES and 'Welcome to the Jungle' and is about holding Activision accountable for its misuse of these incredibly valuable assets." Activision had yet to comment on the lawsuit at press time. 4

FALCONER Begins Recording New AlbumGuitarist Stefan Weinerhall of the Swedish metal band FALCONER has issued the following update:
"FALCONER has now begun the recording of [its new album] 'Armod' at Andy La Rocque's (KING DIAMOND) Sonic Train Studios [in Varberg, Sweden]. Karsten [Larsson; drums], who is the first one to be recorded, thinks this may be his best session ever. The vibe is really awesome!"
According to Weinerhall, "Armod" "will be completely sung in Swedish except for the bonus tracks that will simply be English versions of the best (according to us) new songs." He added, ""This time we have concentrated on the traditional folk side of our music including more traditional folk songs (the majority of the material is still our own), more fiddles and flutes.
"This is a way to finally devoting an entire album to the influences and getting that out of our system, so to speak, and to do the thing some have asked for during ten years. This is not the new direction of us but just the sound of THIS album."
"Carnival Of Disgust", the latest video from FALCONER, can be viewed below. The clip, which was shot at the medieval Vadstena castle on a windy and cold April day, "exceeds [all] expectations," according to a press release. The song comes off the band's most recent album, "Among Beggars And Thieves", which was released in August 2008 via Metal Blade Records. The CD was recorded at Andy La Rocque's (KING DIAMOND) Sonic Train Studio in Varberg, Sweden. 13 songs were mixed during the sessions, including two bonus tracks for the LP's first edition.
FALCONER in 2007 extended its deal with Metal Blade for another four albums. 5

MANOWAR: Two New Audio Samples From Re-Recorded \'Battle Hymns\' AvailableMANOWAR has decided that its fans deserved to hear the songs from its debut album, 1982's "Battle Hymns", with the massive sound and production that has become the group's signature over recent years and records.
With the decision to reinterpret the music came the need to revisit the famed narration of the legendary Orson Welles. There was only one obvious choice and that was Sir Christopher Lee. Recorded at the famed Abbey Road Studios in London, his own inspired interpretation of the late, great Orson Welles on "Dark Avenger" will be another jewel in the crown of the Kings Of Metal.
"Battle Hymns 2011" release dates:
MP3 (from The Kingdom Of Steel): November 26
CD - Europe: November 26
CD - Kingdom Of Steel: December 13
CD - U.S./Canada: February 2011
"Battle Hymns 2011" will feature two never-before-released live versions of "Death Tone" and "Fast Taker" recorded during the band's very first concerts in 1982. These are the rarest bonus materials ever released to date in MANOWAR's career.
"Our fans can be sure that we have squeezed every drop of power into 'Battle Hymns 2011' that today's technology allows," said vocalist Eric Adams.
"Battle Hymns 2011" track listing:
01. Death Tone
02. Metal Daze
03. Fast Taker
04. Shell Shock
05. Manowar
06. Dark Avenger
07. William's Tale
08. Battle Hymn
Bonus Tracks:
09. Death Tone (live)
10. Fast Taker (live)
Rough-mix samples of the new versions of six songs from "Battle Hymns 2011" can be streamed below.
In a recent video message, MANOWAR bassist and producer Joey DeMaio explained the band's decision to re-record "Battle Hymns": "We've had a couple of people ask why re-record a record like 'Battle Hymns' when it's perfect... I didn't say it's perfect, but other people said it's perfect, and we thank you for that. We're not trying to make it better, because it is what it is, but there's a lot of technology now that we didn't have when we made the record and we're gonna take advantage of it to make it as loud as we possibly can. So it won't be better; it'll just be different. And the songs themselves deserve to be recorded again because they're great songs and the fans have actually requested a lot of this to happen. And also, Donnie Hamzik, our original drummer, is back in the band, and he wanted to have another go at it. We're all together and we're gonna have a fucking great time."
Video footage of DeMaio talking about the decision to re-record "Battle Hymns" and laying down bass tracks in the studio can be viewed below.
MANOWAR's latest DVD in the "Hell On Earth" series was released on November 27, 2009. "Hell On Earth V" covers MANOWAR's recent world tours, including Germany, Norway, Spain, Finland, Russia, Romania, Turkey, USA and Canada. It features live performances of old and new classics such as "Gloves Of Metal", "The Crown And The Ring", "Hand Of Doom", "Hymn Of The Immortal Warrior", "Father", "God Or Man" and many others. 3

NERVECELL Completes Writing New AlbumDubai, United Arab Emirates-based death/thrash metallers NERVECELL have completed writing the music for the as-yet-untitled new album, set for a release early next via Lifeforce Records (Europe) and Spellbind Records (Middle East).
Stated the band: "We are really thrilled that the writing process for the new album has been successfully completed and the band is eager to enter the studio next month and start recording.
"We've been working really hard on this record throughout this year and in between the tours we've had in Europe and Asia. All the pre-production for the songs are done and we're very happy with how everything has turned out for us so far.
"The new songs are sounding aggressive, fast and dark! The fans can expect a heavy dosage of old-school death metal, modern thrash metal, intertwined with our touch of Eastern melodies and brutality. Needless to say, there will be more exciting news and surprises featured on this new record to follow."
NERVECELL last year inked a deal with Lifeforce Records. The band's "Preaching Venom" CD was released in Europe on October 26, 2009.
Released in April 2008 in the Middle East (via Spellbind Records), "Preaching Venom" features PSYCROPTIC's David Haley (also of THE AMENTA, RUINS) on drums. The CD was mixed at Hertz Studio (VADER, DECAPITATED, HATE) in Poland by Wieslawscy Bros. and was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (SEPULTURA, SUFFOCATION, UNEARTH) in New Windsor, New York. 1

ZAKK WYLDE Answers Fan-Submitted QuestionsZakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE) recently answered a number of fan-submitted questions for Fret 12. The entire question-and-answer session can be viewed in seven parts below.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's new holiday single, "The First Noel", is available for purchase at iTunes.
"The First Noel" (also known as "The First Nowell") is a traditional English Christmas carol, most likely from the 18th century. In its current form it is of Cornish origin, and it was first published in "Christmas Carols Ancient and Modern" (1823) and "Gilbert and Sandys Christmas Carols" (1833), both of which were edited by William B. Sandys and arranged, edited and with extra lyrics written by Davies Gilbert.
The word Nowell comes from the French word Noël meaning "Christmas", from the Latin word natalis ("birth").
As previously reported, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY recently shot a video for the song "Overlord" with directors Eric Zimmerman and Nik Jamgocyan of Master Cylinder. The track comes off the band's new album, "Order Of The Black", which sold around 33,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 4.
Zimmerman and Jamgocyan previously worked with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY on the "Fire It Up" and "Blood Is Thicker Than Water" clips as well as the "Doom Troopin' Live - The European Invasion" DVD.
"Order Of The Black" was released in North America via E1 Music. The CD features four unique covers designed by Zakk Wylde himself — one for each territory: North America, Europe, Asia and Australia/New Zealand. 4

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS: Another New Song Available For Free Download Set to touch down in America December 4 in Grand Prairie, Texas for a seven-show run after wrapping their six-country South American tour November 27 in Bogota, Colombia, THE SMASHING PUMPKINS have officially released their seventh free track "Tom Tom". It is available for free download at www.smashingpumpkins.com; the site also offers a widget enabling fans to host the song anywhere on the web.
"Tom Tom" is also featured on the PUMPKINS' new EP "Teargarden By Kaleidyscope Vol. II: The Solstice Bare", released yesterday, November 23, via Martha's Music/Rocket Science Ventures. This physical-only four-song EP is a limited-edition, beautifully packaged CD and deluxe 12-inch vinyl picture disc with four songs: "The Fellowship", "Freak", "Tom Tom" and "Spangled" as well as an unreleased B-side track, "Cottonwood Symphony". The lid covering the 12- inch box is a metallic/foil wallpaper motif, with a 1970s design by The Flavor Paper Co. As with the band's EP "Teargarden By Kaleidyscope Vol. 1: Songs For A Sailor", which was released in May of this year, quantities are limited worldwide.
"Teargarden By Kaleidyscope Vol. II: The Solstice Bare" marks the second EP to emerge from the band's in-progress 44-song project "Teargarden By Kaleidyscope", from which songs are being released online, one at a time for free (with four-song physical EPs being issued along the way). "Tom Tom" is the third track to be released from "Teargarden By Kaleidyscope Vol. II: The Solstice Bare". The EP's first single "Freak" earned critical accolades and quickly ascended the U.S. alternative radio charts. With a cumulative audience of over 20 million, "Freak" received national airplay at the biggest Alternative rock stations in the country. The second release, "Spangled", has also earned critical attention, with Spin.com describing it as "a BEATLES-esque psychedelic jam written around a harpsichord melody. It builds with drums and a gliding electric guitar riff… (William Goodwin, 9/14/10)"
In touring news, the band — singer/guitarist Billy Corgan, guitarist Jeff Schroeder, drummer Mike Byrne and bassist Nicole Fiorentino — recently completed two runs of dates in the U.S. plus shows in Asia, Australia, and New Zealand before they embarked on their in-progress tour of South America. The upcoming U.S. shows include headlining such key Christmas radio shows as night one of KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas on Saturday, December 11 in Los Angeles at the Gibson Amphitheatre; KDGE's How the Edge Stole Christmas in Grand Prairie, Texas on Saturday, December 4 at the Verizon Theatre; KTBZ's Buzzfestivus in Houston on Sunday, December 5 at the Verizon Wireless Theater; KEXX's Double Down Concert Series in Chandler, AZ at the Ovations Live Showroom; LIVE 105's Not So Silent Night in San Jose on Friday, December 10 at HP Pavilion; and 91X's WREX the Hall in San Diego on Sunday, December 12 at the Viejas Arena.

A three-minute video clip of former PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo presenting the "Ultimate Edition" of PANTERA's "Cowboys From Hell" album can be viewed below.
PANTERA found its growl and groove on "Cowboys From Hell", a landmark album whose bone-powdering intensity, razor-sharp riffing and pummeling rhythmic assault represented a turning point in modern metal when it was released in 1990. More than just PANTERA's major label debut, many consider this album to be the official debut of the PANTERA lineup with singer Philip Anselmo, guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul and bassist Rex Brown.
To celebrate the 20-year anniversary of "Cowboys From Hell", Rhino has put together a three-disc "Ultimate Edition," a three-disc "Deluxe Edition," and a two-disc "Expanded Edition." All three editions include a newly remastered version of the original album along with unreleased and rare live performances from the "Cowboys From Hell" tour. The "Ultimate" and "Deluxe" editions also feature a disc of unreleased demos for nearly every album track, plus, "The Will To Survive", a previously unreleased song recorded during the album's sessions.
The "Deluxe" and "Expanded" editions of "Cowboys From Hell" were released September 14 at all retail outlets, including www.pantera.com
and www.rhino.com . The "Deluxe Edition" is available for a suggested list price of $29.98 (physical) and $17.99 (digital) and the "Expanded Edition" for $19.98 (physical) and $12.99 (digital).
Along with the remastered version of "Cowboys From Hell", all three sets include a disc of live music recorded during the tour for the album. It begins with seven unreleased performances from PANTERA's September 15, 1990 appearance at the Foundations Forum metal convention in California, a show recorded for radio broadcast but never released commercially. The remainder of the disc contains the five-song EP "Alive And Hostile", a collection of performances recorded in 1991 at the Monsters of Rock festival in Moscow that was previously available only in Australia as part of a 1994 boxed set.
The "Ultimate" and "Deluxe" editions of "Cowboys From Hell" include a third disc that contains the previously unreleased "The Will To Survive", along with demos for 10 of the album's 12 songs, including early versions of the title track "Psycho Holiday", "The Art Of Shredding" and "Cemetery Gates".
After being turned down "twenty-eight times by every major label on the face of the earth," ATCO Records A&R rep Mark Ross saw the band when Hurricane Hugo stranded him in Texas. The rest, as they say, is history, including another seven years and over a million miles of touring for "Cowboys" to be certified platinum (one million album sales) by the RIAA.
The album's liner notes include essays by each of the band's surviving members, producer Terry Date, and the aforementioned Ross. Recalling the first time he saw PANTERA, Ross writes, "By the end of the first song, my jaw was on the floor. The sonic power of it all — the attitude and the musicianship — blew me away. Basically, you had to be an idiot to not think they're amazing. I mean, how could you see these guys and not think, Holy shit!?"

TIMO TOLKKI, ANDRÉ MATOS Talk About SYMFONIA In New Video InterviewsVideo interviews with Brazilian singer André Matos (ANGRA, SHAAMAN, VIPER) and Finnish guitarist Timo Tolkki (STRATOVARIUS, REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE) about their new SYMFONIA project can be viewed below.
SYMFONIA features former members of HELLOWEEN, STRATOVARIUS, ANGRA and SONATA ARCTICA. The band will enter Studiomega in Varberg, Sweden on November 25 to begin recording 12 songs for its debut album, which is scheduled for a March 25, 2011 release.
SYMFONIA has signed a four-album deal with the biggest Japanese metal and rock label Marquee Avalon for the territory of the entire Asian region, including China. Negotiations for the other territories are still in progress.
A press release reads as follows: "They are all legends among the melodic metal community. By sheer coincidence, they all found themselves living on the same continent, in Scandinavia. They decided to join forces and express their talents in the form of a new melodic metal project: SYMFONIA.
"Honoring the heritage of their previous bands STRATOVARIUS, HELLOWEEN, ANGRA and SONATA ARCTICA, SYMFONIA continues their superb melodic metal tradition with an incredible musicianship that is a match made in heaven. This is a force that no serious melodic metal fan will be able to ignore."
SYMFONIA is:
* Timo Tolkki (STRATOVARIUS, REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE) - Guitar
* André Matos (ANGRA, SHAAMAN, VIPER) - Vocals
* Jari Kainulainen (STRATOVARIUS, EVERGREY) - Bass
* Mikko Härkin (SONATA ARCTICA, KOTIPELTO) - Keyboards
* Uli Kusch (MASTERPLAN, HELLOWEEN) - Drums
SYMFONIA will make its live debut on February 18, 2011 at the Finnish Metal Expo (part of the Helsinki Metal Meeting) in Helsinki, Finland.

MOTÖRHEAD \'Lemmy\' Movie To Receive U.S. DVD/Blu-Ray Release In February "Lemmy" (full title: "Lemmy: 49% Motherfucker 51% Son Of A Bitch"), the long-awaited documentary examining the life and career of MOTÖRHEAD frontman and rock icon Lemmy Kilmister, will be released on DVD (a two-DVD set "loaded with incredibly awesome bonus"), Blu-ray and digital download on in the U.S. on February 15. In mid-January, the film will hit select theaters in the U.S. (mostly major markets).
"Lemmy" co-director/co-producer Wes Orshoski told BLABBERMOUTH.NET, "We can't wait for the fans to get their hands on the DVD, which will be a two-disc set in most of the world. The North Amercian version of the film will be the only one to carry all of our bonus content, which we slaved over night and day for something like 35 days straight last summer. We wanted to really serve fans and give them everything that we could. Basically, we designed the U.S. DVD release to be a treasure trove of everything Lemmy. People will get the movie, and then something like four hours of bonus content. More details on that coming soon, but needless to say, the fans will be stoked!" 3

Singer TIM \'RIPPER\' OWENS Says He \'Knows Nothing\' About New YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Album Powerhouse American singer Tim "Ripper" Owens (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) says that he "knows nothing" about the new YNGWIE MALMSTEEN album, "Relentless", despite the fact that Owens' vocals are featured on most of the CD.
Speaking to Sweden Rock Magazine at his September 12, 2010 solo concert at Sticky Fingers in Gothenburg, Sweden, Owens said about the new Malmsteen album, "Every day people ask me if I'm gonna sing on [the new Yngwie CD], but your guess is as good as mine. It's quite possible [that my vocals will appear on it] because we recorded a bunch of songs last time around [during the sessions for 2008's 'Perpetual Flame'], but I would have to check my contract to see if they're allowed to be used on another record. I'm not really surprised that I haven't been asked to do it, even if [Yngwie and I] had a cup of coffee as late as a couple of months ago. We're both busy doing our own stuff, so I won't be hurt if he picks another singer." 14
