Hard-hitting Danish four-piece THE BURNING has revealed the cover artwork for its new album, "Hail The Horde", due in Europe on October 25 via Massacre Records. The cover art was created by Brent Elliot White, who has previously worked with MEGADETH, DEATH ANGEL and WHITECHAPEL.

"Hail The Horde" was produced by Jacob Bredahl (HATESPHERE, PURIFIED IN BLOOD), while the drum recordings and mastering were handled by Tue Madsen (SUICIDE SILENCE, HEAVEN SHALL BURN, SICK OF IT ALL). Legendary US southern trend-killers PANTERA are celebrating the original release of Cowboys From Hell with a 20th Anniversary Edition due out on September 14th via Rhino. An Ultimate Edition of the album will be available on November 23rd. BraveWords.com spoke with drummer Vinnie Paul (HELLYEAH) about the landmark release and he revealed that all Pantera albums will be treated similarly.

"We plan on doing this with all the Pantera releases as they come up on the 20th year," Paul mentioned while discussing the Cowboys From Hell anniversary. Which means 1992's Vulgar Display Of Power is up next. "We've got two years to go for that," he laughs, "but I know that it's already in motion and there's another track that we discovered that we never put on the record. It will have one more jam that nobody has ever heard. We were always a band that believed when it came to song-writing it was all about quality and not quantity. A lot of bands would write 40 songs to see if they have ten good ones to put on the record. We wrote what was on the record - ten or eleven and that was it. We rarely had any extras and that's why there hasn't been any hidden b-sides or anything like that. 'The Will To Survive' (one of the unreleased tracks on the Cowboys From Hell 20th Anniversary) came up and then this other one that's going to be included on the Vulgar package. So there will be something new on there that people haven't heard."

A four-minute trailer for "Live In Europe", the new live album from Dutch singer Anneke Van Giersbergen (AGUA DE ANNIQUE, ex-THE GATHERING), can be viewed below. According to Anneke, "the vast majority of the CD's 12 songs were recorded during our spring 2010 tour in France and Spain. The touring band consisted of Ruud Jolie (guitar), Jacques de Haard (bass) and Rob Snijders (drums). Yours truly sang, shook her booty and played piano and guitar. My front-of-house engineer Erik-Jan Dodd recorded and mixed the album. I'm really excited that the energy of a live show is captured well on this release!

"There will be three brand new up-tempo songs on it: 'Fury', 'Laugh It Out' and a song called 'Who I Am'. I wrote that one together with Devin Townsend while we were working on his 'Addicted' album. I've also re-recorded an old favorite of mine: 'Shrink'. I wrote this song when I was 19 years old and I first recorded it for a demo I made in 1992. It ended up on THE GATHERING's album 'Nighttime Birds' (1997) and now it's revived on 'Live in Europe'. It's a song dear to my heart and I'm proud to share it with you in a new arrangement.

"I had already chosen a picture for the album cover when Mehmet Turgut sent me a photo from a shoot I did with him in Turkey earlier this year. I fell in love with that shot instantly! Arda Aktas made a beautiful cover design."

According to NME.com, GUNS N' ROSES' appearance at the Reading festival earlier tonight (Friday, August 27) was cut short after the organizers pulled the plug on the band's performance due to curfew issues.

GUNS N' ROSES kicked off the show at 10:30 p.m. — over an hour later than scheduled — and managed to play the majority of its set until roughly midnight despite earlier warnings from festival organizer Melvin Benn that he would not tolerate the band playing past 11:30 p.m.

GUNS N' ROSES walked offstage after playing "Nighttrain" and tried to return for an encore, at which point the band's sound was cut. According to NME.com, the group "still tried to launch into 'Paradise City', though only the drums could be heard as all other instruments had been switched off. As the crowd started to sing the track, [singer Axl] Rose tried to greet members of the audience while singing through a megaphone." This went on for roughly five minutes, before the GN'R bandmembers came together on the stage for a final bow and walked off.

GUNS N' ROSES will play U.K.'s Leeds festival tonight (Sunday, August 29) despite singer Axl Rose's previous claim that that the band would pull out of the gig because the group's appearance at the Reading festival on Friday (August 27) was cut short. In two separate message on Twitlonger.com, a related Twitter site where one can post messages longer than 140 characters, Rose wrote, "We are in constant talks to ensure the fans attending Leeds get what they paid for without undue bureaucratic interference. We thank you for your understanding. . . In regard to Reading, we feel at the very least the fans deserve an apology from those responsible for the nonsense. We'd also like to thank the fans for being so great, singing along n' not tearing the place apart!!"

GUNS N' ROSES reportedly started its Reading festival performance at 10:30 p.m. — more than an hour later than scheduled — and was given an extra half hour to play, until roughly midnight.

In a statement to BBC News, the Reading festival organizers said, "GUNS N' ROSES wanted to 'extend' the new agreed curfew but were prevented from doing so in order to comply with the entertainment licence issued by Reading Council."

GUNS N' ROSES played the final song of its set, "Paradise City", with no guitars and the crowd shouting along despite the lack of sound with Axl Rose singing through a megaphone, according to BBC News.

Although GUNS N' ROSES guitarist D.J. Ashba subsequently aplogized for the band hitting the stage "a little late," he accused the organizers of the festival of having "a personal grudge" with GUNS N' ROSES stemming from eight years ago when the band last played the Leeds festival.

Ashba's GN'R bandmate Richard Fortus (guitar) echoed D.J.'s sentiments, writing on his Twitter profile, "I don't think there is another band out right now that has the balls to do what we did last night. Axl insists on doing things his way and not playing by the fucking rules. You can love him or hate him for it, but the fact of the matter is.... he's the real fucking deal. skin, blood and soul. Deal with it or not, but it won't ever change."

British vocalist Tony Mills (ex-SHY), who currently fronts Norway's most famous hard rock sons TNT, suffered a heart attack at Oslo airport Saturday afternoon (August 28) on his way to a gig with the rest of the band. Mills is now in recovery and will be moved out of intensive care today (Monday, August 30).

Mills, 47, wishes to thank all the personnel who helped him at Oslo airport and in the intensive unit at the hospital. He and the rest of TNT also want to express their gratitude to all the fans and friends for their support in the last two days. "I look forward to coming back and singing!" says Mills.

Portuguese prog-rock/metal band DARK WINGS SYNDROM have posted two new songs for exclusive streaming at the band's official MySpace page

Swedish progressive/experimental metallers THERION have issued the following update:

"The tour schedule has changed: The shows in Caracas (Venezuela), Chihuahua and Puebla (both Mexico) have to be cancelled and the show in Santiago de Chile has moved to the Teatro Caupolican. In Europe there will be an additional show — on the 11th of December THERION will play in Istanbul, at Refresh the Venue (which is really named like that).

"We are very sad to announce that the shows in Chihuahua and Puebla in Mexico have been cancelled. The situation with the drug cartels is becoming worse and worse in the north and the local authorities strongly advise against playing concerts in Chihuahua (and, of course, Monterray which also has been rumored we would be playing), so the national promoter in Mexico has decided to cancel Chihuahua as the safety of the band, crew and fans cannot be guaranteed at this point. The Puebla festival has also been cancelled due to some sort of drug cartel-related civil unrest problems. There seems to be no risk for the remaining shows in Mexico and the band hope that there will be other shows to replace the cancelled ones in other parts of the country.

"Seems like the world is going crazy at the moment, as the Caracas show in Venezuela will be cancelled as well. Local promoter is having economic problems and didn't want to risk fucking everything up from what I've heard. So better to cancel and try to replace it with another show in some other country than to risk standing there with thousands of fans buying tickets and maybe making a long journey from another city just to end up with no show happening.

"We hope we will be able to do Venezuela some time in the future; we were really looking forward to playing there."

Mike Meyer of the Phoenix New Times recently conducted an interview with SOULDLY/CAVALERA CONSPIRACY mainman Max Cavalera. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Phoenix New Times: As the lead singer and primary songwriter for two bands, how does your songwriting process work? Do you sit down with the intention of writing a song specifically for SOULFLY or CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, or do you just write songs and decide later which group they're for?

Max: I write the songs without knowing which band they're for. I just write the songs first. Later on, when I listen to it back, when I'm choosing the songs for the albums, that's when I pick — "Okay, this one goes for SOULFLY, this one goes for CAVALERA CONSPIRACY" — and that seems to work out better. That way I just write nonstop. It doesn't stop my pattern of thought on the writing. I keep writing nonstop. I've got a lot of songs I have not recorded yet. I just write all the time. I'm not one of those guys that writes just for the album. I write all the time, even when I don't have to. I love to just sit down with the guitar and write riffs. It's one of my favorite things to do. I've got tons and tons of songs that I haven't used yet, that I'm gonna use for the next [album] or the one after that. I kind of just listen to them later and then pick and choose which one's gonna go to which.

Phoenix New Times: Next year will mark the 25th anniversary of SEPULTURA's debut album, "Morbid Visions". You're probably sick to death of this question, but will we ever see a reunion of the original lineup?

Max: That's something I don't know. That's a hard one. A lot of people ask me that, and sometimes I feel optimistic. I convinced Igor [Max's brother and former SEPULTURA drummer Igor Cavalera] to do it, 'cause he didn't want to have anything to do with those guys [bassist Paulo Jr. and guitarist Andreas Kisser] ever again. I convinced him to do it for me, and he said he'd do it for me if that was the case, but the other two guys, it's kinda hard. They're still trapped in an old mindset, so it's just something that's gonna have to wait. I mean, it would have been cool to do it next year. There's a lot of cool offers for us around the world. People want to see that reunion, so I just kinda wait and see. In the meantime, I'm super busy with both bands. SOULFLY is going to Israel and China and Australia next month, and I'm going to Brazil with CAVALERA CONSPIRACY for a huge festival in Sao Paulo. So I'm pretty busy with both bands anyway, so I just kinda wait. If that happens, it's cool. If it doesn't, it's still cool. I'm busy anyway.

Former NIGHTWISH singer TARJA TURUNEN has issued the following update:

"The summer shows are over and it’s time to relax a bit and wait anxiously the album release.

"Thank you guys for the great summer! We had a blast. I also want to thank you all who sent me birthday greetings and presents on my birthday. I just wish you to know that the best gift is knowing that you are there. I am working on the album promotion at the moment at home in Buenos Aires. Even though there is a lot of work to be done, it feels so nice to be in one place for a longer period!

Also it gives me a chance to get myself in good condition for the tours that are ahead of me. Actually I can’t wait for them to begin already! But first comes first; the new album. Next week is the time I have been waiting for many long months.

Finland will break the ice on September 1st followed by Germany, Austria and Switzerland on the 3rd. All the rest will wait until 6th, but I know there are always some countries that will not make it in time. US will finally have the album available on September 14th of.

Guitar virtuoso Joe Stump (HOLYHELL, REIGN OF TERROR) has issued the following update:

"I've compiled quite a bit of high-quality concert video footage over the last several months, so some type of full-on concert DVD of my solo stuff will be released before the end of this year. It'll be a two-DVD package. DVD one will be me performing tracks from [Stump's latest solo album] 'Virtuostic Vendetta' in a combination performance/instructional type of thing, and the second DVD in the package will be a full concert with maybe some bonus clinic and bootleg concert footage in there as well."

Influential Greensburg, Pennsylvania-based heavy music act ZAO has commenced work on material for its next studio album, which the band plans on releasing through its own label. The group explains, "The music industry has made enough money off of bands and wasted it. Why not put it out ourselves and sink the 'profits' back into future releases?"

Regarding the progress of the songwriting sessions for the next CD, ZAO states, "We are writing, we have been exchanging songs. We have tossed songs that are 'too standard for ZAO,' we are trying new things. It's liberating. We are doing our best to get Russ [Cogdell, guitar] on the album (as we tried with [2009's] 'Awake?'). Needless to say, we are taking our time because we can.

"So as of right now, ZAO is writing, self-managing and planning on self-releasing."

"Awake?", the latest album from ZAO, sold around 2,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD debuted at No. 19 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Swiss melodic metallers EMERALD will release their fifth album, "Re-Forged", on November 20 through Pure Steel Records/Twilight. "Unbreakable", the new video from Chicago-based metallers VEIL OF MAYA, can be viewed below. The clip was filmed with director Scott Hansen, who has previously worked with A DAY TO REMEMBER and BURY YOUR DEAD. The song comes off VEIL OF MAYA's new album, "[id]", which sold around 5,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD landed at position No. 1 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Chicago based multinational extreme-metal act AGAINST THE PLAGUES has commenced the songwriting process for its as-yet-untitled second album.

Commented co-founder Varyen Chylinski: "We have six songs almost finished and another two in progress. Next month we will start recording them as a pre-production material and as soon as we have them ready we will expose some of them on our website.

"We are working with new music in our practice room in Chicago and as I see after several rehearsals, new songs are much more faster and extreme than the previous album, 'Decoding The Mainframe'.

"Great Are The Eyed", the first official video from AGAINST THE PLAGUES, can be viewed below. THE PROJECT HATE MCMXCIX — the Swedish band featuring Jörgen Sandström (vocals; VICIOUS ART, KRUX, ex-ENTOMBED, GRAVE), Lord K. Philipson (guitar; TORTURE DIVISION, ex-GOD AMONG INSECTS, HOUSE OF USHER, LEUKEMIA), Anders Bertilsson (guitar; COLDWORKER), Tobben Gustafsson (drums; TORTURE DIVISION, VOMITORY) and Portuguese vocalist Ms. Roque (a.k.a. Ruby Roque of WITCHBREED) — has inked a deal with Season of Mist. Bassist Simon Holzknecht has left Austrian symphonic melodic metallers SERENITY due to personal reasons.

Commented the band: "Within the last couple of years Simon was a constant and important part within the band and his bass playing completed our releases (2007's 'Words Untold & Dreams Unlived', 2008's 'Fallen Sanctuary') as well as our live performances.

"We have a lot of great memories to share from our weeks and weeks on tour, in studio, rehearsing or simply having fun with each other.

"We know how much effort and idealism is needed for a band such as SERENITY and so we fully understand and back up his decision. Of course, we wish him the best for his future career — no matter in which direction it may lead.

"Simon stated that he will not join another band immediately — what the future holds... we will see (or better hear)."

"Fabio plays in several bands and runs his own studio in Verona, Italy. The fact that his other bands only perform some single shows a year made it quite easy to get him on board our battleship cruiser. He is fully addicted to music and we are looking forward to a whole lot of new touring experiences as well as gorgeous 'Austrian-English-Italian-translations' (this will be pain in the ass ;-))!

"If Fabio will become a full SERENITY member is a decision to be made by all of us in the future to come."

According to The News Tribune, Stephen Wesley Ungerbuehler — who was known as Steve Unger (MySpace page) when he played bass for METAL CHURCH from 2004 to 2009 — was arrested Monday (August 23) for allegedly leading a three-county marijuana-growing operation in the Washington state. He was charged Wednesday with leading organized crime, unlawfully manufacturing a controlled substance and money laundering. Pleas of not guilty were entered on his behalf.

He's being held in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Ungerbuehler's attorney, Jay Berneburg, told The News Tribune his client "adamantly denies" the allegations against him. Berneburg said Ungerbuehler is a professional musician who travels and has earned his money legitimately through record sales, concerts and other contracts.

"This is another case of the war on drugs run amok," Berneburg said.

Legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio — best known for his work with BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW and his own band DIO — will be posthumously honored at the first-ever Classic Gold Music Awards (CGMA), set to take place August 27-30 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The four-day entertainment industry gala to benefit local school arts and music programs will include celebrity parties, music seminars and multicultural exhibits culminating in an August 30 ceremony hosted by actor/comedian Michael Winslow ("Police Academy") and showcasing musical performances from yesterday and today's most popular performers.

Also captured is Beatallica playing the unreleased track 'Please Please Me (Or I'll Beat You)' (see video below), which the band announced has been prevented from release by lawyers, presumably by those representing the Beatles due to objectionable lyrical content. Vocalist Jason McMaster will hit the road again with his other main band, BROKEN TEETH, for a string a dates across the US, and Beatallica has announced another round of US dates for their Masterful Mystery Tour late this fall.

ALL THAT REMAINS' touring photographer Jeremy Saffer has put together a collection of images taken over the past five years in which the band's guitarist, Mike Martin, is flipping off the camera. The collection is available as a 2011 calendar at this location.

Commented Saffer: "Mike Martin is best known as the guitarist of the American metal band ALL THAT REMAINS.

"What some don't know about this western Massachusetts legend is that he has an affinity for flipping off my camera.
