7Hard has announced the signing of MINUETUM for the release of the band's debut album, entitled "Haunted Spirit". The CD, featuring Jason Mercury (ex-OUTLOUD) on guitar, and Ignacio Lopez (SELIGER, LORD KRAVEN) on bass and Bob Katsionis (FIREWIND, REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE, OUTLOUD) as a guest musician on guitar, was produced by Katsionis and mixed and mastered by Timo Tolkki (STRATOVARIUS, REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE). It will be made available in Europe on July 2.

According to a press release, the new MINUETUM album is "a classic keyboard-based power metal album highly influence by Scandinavian power metal band like STRATOVARIUS and SONATA ARCTICA. All songs are based on the keyboard melodies of founding member and main composer Dimitris Melidis, a combination of neoclassical keyboard melodies with heavy and fast rhyme and lead guitars, typical power metal double bass-drums and atmospheric elements."

MINUETUM was formed in Athens in 2007 by Dimitris Melidis and Dimitris Zacharopoulos.

The new supergroup featuring former DEEP PURPLE bassist/singer Glenn Hughes alongside LED ZEPPELIN reunion drummer Jason Bonham, DREAM THEATER's former keyboardist Derek Sherinian and guitarist Joe Bonamassa has settled on a new name: BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION.

BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION (formerly BLACK COUNTRY) is a devastating head-on collision between American and British rock influences — a true supergroup that delivers a titanic rock experience greater than the sum of its supremely talented parts.

The seed for BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION was planted when Hughes and master blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa combined forces on stage in Los Angeles in November 2009 for an explosive performance at Guitar Center's King of the Blues event.

The brainchild of producer Kevin Shirley (BLACK CROWES, AEROSMITH, LED ZEPPELIN), the band added to its rock lineage with powerhouse drummer Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN, FOREIGNER) and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (DREAM THEATER, BILLY IDOL, ALICE COOPER). Named after the industrial area in Britain where both Hughes and Bonham were born and raised, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION began rehearsing and recording tracks written by both Bonamassa and Hughes at Shangri-La Studios in early 2010. Their new album, which has yet to be named, will debut in September 2010.

BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION made a surprise debut appearance during the encore at Bonamassa's March 17 concert at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium in Riverside, California. The band performed two songs — "One Last Soul" and a cover of the DEEP PURPLE classic "Mistreated".

Massachusetts metallers ALL THAT REMAINS are putting the finishing touches on the recording process for their fifth album, due this fall via Prosthetic Records/Razor & Tie.

Commented vocalist Phil Labonte: "The more these songs get into shape, the more excited I get. This isn't 'Overcome Two'. It's not 'The Fall Of Ideals Two'. It's very dynamic, heavy, and experimental. We've always had songs that went into different directions and this disc will be no different."

To engage fans in the recording process for the new CD, ALL THAT REMAINS members Phil Labonte (vocals), Oli Herbert (guitar), Mike Martin (guitar), Jeanne Sagan (bass) and Jason Costa (drums) have set up AllThatRemainsTV.com, a streaming video site set up in their recording studio. Fans can look to the band's social networking sites for detailed broadcast schedules, giveaways, and weekly chat sessions, but the feed is constantly streaming and any of the band members as well as the album's producer, Adam Dutkiewicz from KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, may pop into the chat room at a random time.

ALL THAT REMAINS will embark on a five-date tour (from June 8 through June 1) with FEAR FACTORY throughout the Northeast/Tri-State area. Phil Labonte said, "We're really pumped to be getting out on the road with FEAR FACTORY. We're having an amazing time in the studio working on the new album but it's always good to get out there in front of the fans and just perform. We've been cooped up in the studio so getting out on stage will be a nice break so once we get back in we'll be recharged to finish this heavy-ass record. Arrghhhh!!!!"

DEATH ANGEL guitarist Rob Cavestany has posted the following message regarding the passing of Debbie Abono, a well-respected and much-loved manager and promotional machine behind some of San Francisco Bay Area's strongest metal bands (POSSESSED, FORBIDDEN, EXODUS, VIO-LENCE, SKINLAB):

"Haven't been able to get online much the past few days on the road but now have had the chance to read all the posts about Debbie Abono and soak it all in.

"I want to express my gratitude and respect for all she did for our scene, my band and me individually. She was like a mom and mentor. She was there for us in so many ways at almost all the local shows and especially on one of the best tours we ever did (DEATH ANGEL - 'Act III' / FORBIDDEN - 'Twisted Into Form' in 1990).

"Miss you, Debbie. Rest in peace."

Abono passed away on Sunday (May 16) at approximately 9:59 a.m. PST after a battle with cancer. She was 80 years old.

Swiss death metallers REQUIEM will enter Stage One studio in Borgentreich, Germany in December 2010 with producer Andy Classen (LEGION OF THE DAMNED, DEW-SCENTED, TANKARD, HOLY MOSES, DISBELIEF, KRISIUN, CALLENISH CIRCLE) to begin recording the follow-up to last year's "Infiltrate... Obliterate... Dominate", tentatively titled "Within Darkened Disorder". The band states, "The songwriting process is still going on finishing the instrumental arrangements. Lyrics and vocal arrangements will be done prior to the next European tour in November 2010." An early 2011 via Twilight Vertrieb is expected.

Guitarist C.J. Pierce of Texas heavy rockers DROWNING POOL has released the following statement regarding the passing of SLIPKNOT bassist Paul Gray:

"Paul was, actually, the first person in SLIPKNOT that Dave Williams [late DROWNING POOL singer], me, Mike [Luce, drums], and Stevie [Benton, bass] ever met.

"When we were recording the first DROWNING POOL CD, 'Sinner', in L.A. back in January/February of 2001, we would go out to the Rainbow after recording to have a few drinks and hang out. We ran into Paul a few times while SLIPKNOT was recording their second CD, 'Iowa', became friends and the next thing you know we're all on Ozzfest six months later rockin' out together.

"We know what it's like to lose a brother and a family member.

"Our hearts and our prayers go out to SLIPKNOT and Paul's family. You will always be remembered.

"In memory of the ones we've lost, life will never be the same without you."

Reactivated Dutch death metal veterans HOUWITSER have completed work on their fifth album, "Bestial Atrocity", due later in the year via Sevared Records.

Spanish death/black metallers NOCTEM will spend this summer composing material for the band's sophomore album. According to a posting on the group's MySpace page, the follow-up to last year's "Divinity" will be a "logical progression of the last album, full of new nuances and based in a darker sound and a more complex composition." NOCTEM adds, "This will be the second part of the trilogy that started with 'Divinity'."

NOCTEM's "Across Heracles Towards" video can be viewed below. The song comes off the band's debut album, "Divinity", which was released in April 2009 via Austria's NoiseHead Records. The CD features guest appearances by Christos Antoniou (SEPTICFLESH, CHAOSTAR) and Leal (FOREVER SLAVE). It contains 11 tracks based on the story of the disappearance of Atlantis "from a dark and subjective point of view, speaking about its blood's desire in the battle, the darkest rituals for reaching the immortality or its society based in a polytheistic theocracy with longings of glory," according to a press release.

Vocalist Mikael Stanne of Swedish melodic death metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY has released the following statement regarding the passing of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW):

"It's been a while now and I still cannot deal with the fact that you are gone. Your voice, your passion and humility has been a constant guiding light in my life. You have always been a hero in my house and with my family. The many times I've met you, I have been amazed by your grace and generosity.

"I love you and there are no words to express how much I miss you."

Guitarist Ben Varon of Finnish metallers AMORAL has issued the following update:

"As you might've noticed, it's been real quiet here in the past few months. We've been writing, rehearsing and recording demos of the new material that will eventually become AMORAL studio album number five. There's been a nice, long break from gigs, so we've been able to fully concentrate on this, which also explains the lack of updates or news online.

"So far, we have about 50% of the next album completely written and demoed out, and we're really happy with what we're hearing. It's still gonna take a good while to complete writing the other half, figure out all the boring business side of things (new label, etc.) and actually record the album, so please be patient. We also have some shows to do during the summer, which slows the writing down a bit...

"We've posted a couple of videos of us recording new songs, one with Juffi's [drummer Juhana 'Juffi' Karlsson] beats and another with Ari's [Koivunen] vocals.

"Sorry for the lack of new music heard, but we don't wanna get the riffs out there this early in the process; we'd rather keep it fresh for when the album is actually out."

AMORAL recently parted ways with guitarist Silver Ots and replaced him with Valtteri Hirvonen.

ENGEL — the Gothenburg, Sweden-based quintet featuring guitarists Marcus Sunesson (ex-THE CROWN) and Niclas Engelin (PASSENGER, ex-GARDENIAN, IN FLAMES), drummer Mojjo (RELEVANT FEW, DRACENA) and vocalist Mangan Klavborn — released its long-awaited second album, "Threnody", in Japan on April 20 via Avex.

ENGEL recorded "Threnody" at PUK studio in Gjerlev, Denmark with producer Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, HIMSA, SICK OF IT ALL). The band is currently seeking a new label home in the U.S. and Europe following its split with SPV Records (which issued ENGEL's debut album, "Absolute Design", in 2007).

ENGEL recently filmed a video for another track off "Threnody" with director PA Nilsson. "We decided to try something a little different from the usual approach and what I can say is that making this video was so much fun and exhausting as well," stated bassist Steve Drennan.

Reactivated seminal technical metal pioneers ATHEIST will enter LedBelly studios in Atlanta, Georgia on July 5 to begin recording their long-awaited, as-yet-untitled fourth album. Engineering the session will be Matt Washburn. Additionally, the band has secured the services of one of metal's most significant talents of the past decade, Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, DEVILDRIVER), to handle the mixing of what promises to be a modern classic from the pioneers of technical metal.

"I can't believe we are about to record this album finally," vocalist Kelly Shaefer states. "We have been working our asses off for a year, and have taken great strides to make this the record we, as fans, would want to hear from ATHEIST. It's ferocious, intelligent, and dead-balls heavy as shit! When people hear this, they're going to say, 'It's ATHEIST!'"

"We are honored and totally stoked to have Jason be a part of this album with us," says drummer Steve Flynn. "He went to great lengths to make this happen for us, and we are grateful. We anticipate collectively taking extreme metal to new places.

On a related note, the band states, "We do wish to sincerely apologize to the promoters, fans, and DEW-SCENTED for the cancelation of our appearance at this year's Hellfest, and a handful of club dates surrounding it. We had to do it in order to get this album recorded. As soon as it's done, we will come see you all on tour for the next 18 months!

"We owe the continuing legacy and re-ignition of ATHEIST to everyone who has ever demanded more from their metal, and a huge salute goes out from ATHEIST to all of the bands that carry the flag that we unceremoniously planted 22 years ago with 'Piece of Time'. Guitarist Jani Stefanovic has left SOLUTION .45 and MISERATION for "personal reasons." Jani explained in a statement, "For several years I have been working with many talented musicians and done many albums in a very short period of time.

"Music is my passion, but over the last year or so, I have felt that I want to focus more on quality time with friends and family. I do not intend to quit music, but at this point I feel that I am not ready to commit to these bands as much as would be necessary. I just feel that my personal life is striving for something else than the rest of the guys in SOLUTION .45 and MISERATION.

"There's absolutely no bad blood between us and I do wish both bands great success, 'cause they are really good, with nothing but quality people in them. Us parting ways has consequently nothing to do with musical or personal differences, or anything like that for that matter. I just feel that this is not my place to be right now. I am very satisfied with the result of both the SOLUTION .45 debut album and the latest one from MISERATION and do feel that I can leave with my head held up high."

Added the remaining members of SOLUTION .45: "We want to stress two things:

1) While we are extremely sad to see our brother go, there is no bad blood between Jani and ANY of the SOLUTION .45 or MISERATION members whatsoever. We respect Jani's wishes and so should you. In fact, Jani and the boys will still be found jamming together in THE FEW AGAINST MANY and possibly future outings to come.

2) Both bands will move on, stronger than ever. We are happy to announce Patrik Gardberg of TORCHBEARER, THE FEW AGAINST MANY and AMMOTRACK as SOLUTION .45's new second guitarist. He is by far and away one of the most accomplished (and underrated) guitarists in Sweden. Actually, you can actually hear Patrik's soloing on many songs on [SOLUTION .45's debut album] 'For Aeons Past'. Patrik also gets Jani's nod of approval.

"Additionally, Jani will contribute some music for the next SOLUTION .45 album. We probably won't write that one for a good while, but we thought we'd let you know that Jani will still be a part of the band, being somewhat involved in the process when the time comes. He simply will not be a full-time member. So next time around, Patrik, Tom and Christian, and Jani as well, will all contribute to the writing for SOLUTION .45. "

The Pulse of Radio reports that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE frontman Zack de la Rocha is leading a new boycott of Arizona by musicians in protest of the state's controversial immigration law. According to Billboard.com, de la Rocha has enlisted acts such as RISE AGAINST, Serj Tankian, Joe Satriani, CYPRESS HILL, Kanye West, SONIC YOUTH and others, along with filmmaker Michael Moore, to join what he is calling the Sound Strike.

De la Rocha wrote in an open letter: "Fans of our music, our stories, our films and our words can be pulled over and harassed every day because they are brown or black, or for the way they speak, or for the music they listen to. People who are poor like some of us used to be could be forced to live in a constant state of fear while just doing what they can to find work and survive. This law opens the door for them to be shaked down, or even worse, detained and deported while just trying to travel home from work, or when they just roll out with their friends."

The Arizona law, SB1070, requires local authorities to determine a person's immigration status if he or she is suspected of being undocumented. Critics have said it could lead to racial profiling or unconstitutional searches.

De la Rocha has set up a web site for the Sound Strike campaign, asking other musicians to join the boycott and fans to sign a petition asking Arizona lawmakers to repeal the law.

CYPRESS HILL and rapper Pitbull have already canceled upcoming shows in Arizona, along with a number of regional acts.

STARING AT STARS, the new band formed by Ryche Green (ex-BULLETBOYS) and Jaime Fletcher (ex-BRITNY FOX) have completed the drum and bass tracks from the upcoming debut and newly titled 1 Part Saint, 2 Part Sinner. Scratch vocal and guitar tracks have also been completed with final guitars being laid down this week. Vocalist Jaime Fletcher will head into Movie Sound Studios to record final vocal tracks next week.

"The project is coming along nicely and we've worked up some really great new music. Some of the working titles at this point are 'She Likes Girls', 'Want You' and ' 2 Months L8R' " says drummer Ryche Green.

The band will be launching a new website and MySpace in the coming weeks.

BIOHAZARD bassist/vocalist Evan Seinfeld has issued the following update:

The Pulse of Radio reports: AVENGED SEVENFOLD releases the first single and title track from its upcoming album, "Nightmare", to radio stations on Monday (May 17). Singer M. Shadows told The Pulse of Radio that the album started out as a concept record, but that idea was dropped after the death of the band's drummer, James "The Rev" Sullivan. However, Shadows added that he kept the song's lyrics the same as a tribute to his fallen bandmate. "'Nightmare' is one of those songs that was the beginning of the record and it was setting us up for this big story," he said. "Jimmy loved the lyrics so much that when he passed away, I didn't want to change them. And I figured, if this record's gonna be about Jimmy, I'm not gonna change stuff he loved about it, 'cause there's already so many songs that are about him, or with him in it, and just have to do with that whole dark side of everything we were going through."

"Nightmare" will be available from digital retailers on Tuesday (May 18). "Nightmare" the album will arrive in stores on July 27.

his trade. Being a craftsman. Being... well, just being Ronnie.

"To just say that Ronnie Dio was a 'legend' or an 'icon,' ironically, would be
