MOONSPELL Working On Ideas For Next Studio AlbumThe German edition of the Metal Hammer magazine conducted an interview with MOONSPELL vocalist Fernando Ribeiro at this year's Summer Breeze festival, which was held August 13-15, 2009 in Dinkelsbühl, Germany. Watch the chat at this location.
When asked if there are any plans for MOONSPELL to record a new studio album in the not-too-distant future, Fernando replied, "It's in the making. I already have all the story in my head, all the concept... It will be something more blasphemous but also more elegant [than what we've done before] . . . We're [getting there] and I hope we can record and release [the new MOONSPELL CD] in 2010. 'Night Eternal' [MOONSPELL's most recent studio LP, which came out in 2008] is not such an old album, but I think you should do albums when you feel like it, and we feel like definitely doing a new album in 2010."
Regarding whether the forthcoming MOONSPELL album will be a concept effort based on one particular theme, Fernando said, "I think it's gonna be made up of little stories. MOONSPELL never did, actually, these conceptual albums, as they are, like KING DIAMOND's 'Abigail', which is like a story with different chapters, or [QUEENSRŸCHE's] 'Operation: Mindcrime'. I think we always have been a conceptual band — 'Wolfheart' [1995] is a concept, 'Irreligious' [1996] is a concept, 'Memorial' [2006] is a concept, 'Night Eternal' is a concept, but never in the way of those albums I [mentioned]. I think everything has to tie with each other, and I think that's what we do with MOONSPELL — work hard that the music and the lyrics can tell someone a story, and to do that, you have to be conceptual, definitely."
MOONSPELL released a DVD, "Lusitanian Metal", in December 2008 in Europe via Century Media Records. The first disc features one complete live show recorded live in Katowice in 2004, all video clips (from "Opium" to "Everything Invaded"), an in-depth interview with all current band members and a detailed discography. The second disc offers a historical overview of the Portuguese metal group's period as a Century Media recording artist, with no less than 50 live tracks, starting with some very old-school live rehearsal recordings back in 1992 and ending with live footage from the "Spreading The Eclipse Tour". 10

SCAR SYMMETRY: \'Dark Matter Asteroids\' Game Online Swedish progressive modern metallers SCAR SYMMETRY have launched an exclusive online game for their upcoming album, "Dark Matter Dimensions". Check out "Dark Matter Asteroids" at this location and beat the highscore to win a meet-and-greet with the band at the upcoming Neckbreakers Ball Tour 2009.
"Dark Matter Dimensions" will be released on October 2 via Nuclear Blast Records.
The track listing for the CD is as follows:
01. The Iconoclast
02. The Consciousness Eaters
03. Noumenon And Phenomenon
04. Ascension Chamber
05. Mechanical Soul Cybernetics
06. Nonhuman Era
07. Dark Matter Dimensions
08. Sculpture Void
09. A Paranthesis In Eternity
10. Frequencyshifter
11. Radiant Strain
12. Pariah (exclusive limited-edition digipack bonus track)
Commented drummer/lyricist Henrik Ohlsson: "The album title came from the scientific fact that you can't see at least 95% of the universe and despite that fact we behave like we know everything there is to know. We trust our eyes even though they give us a very limited range of perception and we dismiss things because they seem to defy our narrow and cynical sense of logic. The title 'Dark Matter Dimensions' stands for an appreciation and acknowledgement of the unseen worlds and dimensions, because without the existence of these unseen forces our physical universe would never be able to exist. These so-called 'dark matter dimensions', a term I use for everything unseen, orchestrates everything our eyes are allowed to see. And you can bring this down to a personal level as well, from the macrocosmic to the microcosmic, and realize that our appearance stands for a small percentage of who we are. At least 95% of what we are consists of consciousness, thoughts, feelings and other unseen activities. So the term 'dark matter dimensions' applies on both macrocosmic and microcosmic levels. As above, so below. As for the artwork [see below], I view at as a peek into a possible dark matter dimension, a surreal planetary body that defies our sense of what a planet looks like. Spontaneously I come think of it as a symbolic version of the current state of the earth." 3

TRISTANIA Joined By Former OCTAVIA SPERATI GuitaristNorway's TRISTANIA have issued the following update:
"We are very happy to announce that Gyri Losnegård has joined the ranks of TRISTANIA as a permanent member! It was never a hard decision to ask her to get on board. We quickly got to know her as a hard-working, talented guitar player, skilled songwriter/lyricist, and, most of all, an easy-going, loving person, that fit straight in the family from day one! Please give her a warm welcome!"
Gyri commented: "Two years ago, in August 2007, I met this very cool girl from Sardinia at Wacken Open Air in Germany. We quickly connected and ended up hanging out for the rest of the festival. She told me she was going to Norway in a couple of weeks to audition for a band, and for my part there was no surprise when only a few weeks later, Mariangela announced that she was assigned as the new singer of TRISTANIA.
"A year passed. After eight years of great adventures, my band OCTAVIA SPERATI decided to put band activities aside. I told Mariangela, and incidentally it turned out that her band was short of a guitar player at the time. She asked me to get in touch with the guys, and so I did. February 2009 I met with the band to rehearse for the first time, and at the end of that weekend I was welcomed into TRISTANIA as a live guitarist.
"I want to thank the guys for accepting me as a band member so quickly. So far in my musical career I had only played in one other band; a band that started out, and always kept being, a project between friends. You can't imagine how relieved I was to find that behind the name TRISTANIA was a bunch of very, very great people. I'm probably not the most outgoing of persons, but these guys are really easy to get along with and to become fond of, and each and every one already feels like family. I was asked to join in permanently after my first two gigs with TRISTANIA in June, and I find it a privilege to be playing with this band. I hope I will stand up to the task of being the second guitar player of TRISTANIA.
"Glimpsing into the future, I see good things happening for the band. The new material is great, it is groovy, energic and a pleasure to play live. I've done a few more gigs with TRISTANIA now, met some of the fans and seen their reactions to the new material, and I'm excited. I can't wait to get out and play again and meet even more of the people who are the reason we want to keep doing this.
"I know there's been a lot of changes to the band lately and that people, especially the fans, are not sure what comes next. But I'm confident that we will be given a fair chance, and that we will live up to your standards and deliver — in every way. 7

METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH And ANTHRAX To Tour Together? SLAYER guitarist Kerry King has told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine that he has heard through the grapevine that METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich is plotting a tour that would include METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX.
Should this tour materialize, this would be the first time that the so-called "Big Four" of thrash have toured together as part of the same bill. MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX were joined by opening act ALICE IN CHAINS for the U.S. Clash Of The Titans tour in 1991, while METALLICA and MEGADETH last shared a U.K. stage at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1993.
In an interview conducted yesterday (Wednesday, September 2) in London, Metal Hammer asked Kerry if there had been a temptation to bring the co-headline tour that SLAYER are about to embark on with MEGADETH in Australia and Canada to U.K. shores.
"I think it would be cool but I knew we had this planned before all of this MEGADETH stuff started happening," said King. "They're going to Australia with us, they're going to Canada again with us. I think it would be cool for the European fans to bring that over here because, shit, we didn't even consider playing with those guys since 1990."
So could it be possible that we could get a tour that includes the "Big Four?"
"I've heard people referencing Lars," said King. "I don't know Lars that well and I haven't heard it from Lars, but apparently he's talking to somebody about it. Maybe us, METALLICA, MEGADETH (and), I think he even threw in ANTHRAX and I said in this day and age, I know we had that time together, but how do you leave out MACHINE HEAD? There's better options than ANTHRAX and that's nothing against ANTHRAX, but they've just been in pieces for quite some time and that doesn't make as much sense to me." 58

TRIARII + ORDO ROSARIUS EQUILIBRIO = TRIOREThis fairytale started to unravel four years ago with the release of Triarii’s "Piece Heroique" (ES-05). A sinister seed was planted in the fertile soil of northern Europe as Christian Erdmann (Triarii) and Tomas Pettersson (Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio) gave birth to the track "Roses 4 Rome". And now finally, the progeny has been conceived and fully developed; and what they call TriORE, has ultimately been born. Both participants go beyond themselves and step out of normal character, but TriORE is nonetheless the embodiment of all that which is Triarii, and all that which is Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio; like a succulent apple in two opposite pieces just waiting to be devoured. The bombastic touch of Triarii is still there; the string sections, the choirs, the martial drums and much more; alongside the eloquence of Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, musically, melodically, as well as lyrically. This is what all lovers of both bands have been waiting for, a complete forty minutes of Art Deco Industrial Pop. This work begins where Roses 4 Rose left us, and takes all the way from the rising of victory, through the trenches and all the way till Europa falls. Released on Cold Meat Industry and available September 30th, 2009.
01 The First Three Hours
02 Victory rising
03 After Summer we Fall
04 Another Love, another Hate
05 No Tears are shed for You and Me
06 Pleasures & Tortures
07 Fires burn, like Fires do
08 Let us meet in the Trenches
09 There’s a Smell to Life that dies
10 Europa’s Dream
11 The Last Three Hours 4

SCORPIONS Hard At Work On New AlbumVocalist Klaus Meine of German hard rock legends SCORPIONS has issued the following update:
"Dear fans, the last few months on the road just flew by — and as always, it was fantastic and exciting to play for you. But now we are back in our studio in Hannover with our Swedish producers Mikael 'Nord' [Andersson] and Martin Hansen [the team behind THE RASMUS' "Dead Letters" CD] to work on our new album. We have a lot of new songs and are very much looking forward to the creative time ahead of us. Hopefully, when this time comes to an end, we will be able to present another awesome album that rocks and finds a place in your heart. If everything goes as planned, our new album will be released to the public spring of 2010.
"There's more: This October, the world wide release of our new DVD, 'Amazonia –Life in the Jungle!' will be heading your way."
Added guitarist Rudolf Schenker: "It is such a great feeling to be back in the studio and creating something new and genuine. As early as the first recording day with my bandmates, I realized pure creativity is in the air. I am sure that our new album will surprise all our fans. We are up to something big, so let your curiosity get the best of you!"
Stated guitarist Matthias Jabs: "Now that our 'Humanity World Tour' is over and we toured the world twice very successfully, it is time to record new songs, to write new songs — songs that come from the heart and relate to our fans' emotions around the world. I am very excited about recording our new album with lots of energy and feeling. As always though, the bar is set very high, especially as I like to measure it with our albums 'Blackout' and 'Love at First Sting'." 2

MARDUK Frontman Creating His Own PathStefan Raduta of Blistering.com recently conducted an interview with vocalist Daniel "Mortuus" Rosten of Swedish black metallers MARDUK and FUNERAL MIST. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Blistering.com: But where do you see the black metal scene going today?
Mortuus: The thing is, this question is almost impossible to answer, because a portion of the scene is going in one direction, while the other one is different. There is only one path for me, as far as I'm concerned.
Blistering.com: So what is black metal to you, then?
Mortuus: Black metal to me is as simple as it gets: it's metal music with a Satanic, destructive message, or a devil-worshipping message. That's it, nothing else.
Blistering.com: Were you nervous the first time you went on stage with [MARDUK]?
Mortuus: I was not nervous but was actually not a very good show for me, I think. When I look back at it now, I realize that a lot of my energy went into trying to remember the lyrics. I wanted to be really well rehearsed so I could focus on my presence on stage…but instead of that I had to think of the what the following line was going to be. I think that affected the outcome, in my views, anyway.
Blistering.com: Recording "Plague Angel" had to be a very interesting experience. Did you have to adapt yourself to the album's songs, did Morgan ask you to do anything different than you would have normally done it?
Mortuus: No, I didn't concern myself with what they might have expected from me. I went in and did it my own way. I look at it like this: This is what I want my black metal to be like, sound like and feel like. If the band has a problem with it they can obviously tell me and we could work it out, but since I've been with MARDUK it's never been the case. Everyone seems happy so it's OK.
Blistering.com: [FUNERAL MIST's] "Maranatha" got a lot of mixed reviews…
Mortuus: I know.
Blistering.com: Either it was taken as it was and got praised, or it was just seen less intense than "Salvation" and it got destroyed, there was no in between. I personally love it. Is it what you wanted it to be? It's definitely different than its predecessor…
Mortuus: In a way, it is and it is not. I totally stand behind this album. First of all, I never ever recorded any music just for the sake of being different, for wanting to stand out. I don't believe in that. I stayed in the studio until I was 100% satisfied with the result like I always have; until my original vision was fulfilled. If it takes me ten years to record something, then so be it, that's what it takes. Secondly, it was not my intention to record "Salvation II". I've already recorded "Salvation" so I never had a plan to record a follow-up. For me it's not a step up or a step down, I don't see it in these terms. It's more like a step on the side, if anything. This album is all I wanted it to be, so take it or leave it, that's how I see it. I don't concern myself with what others do, I don't try to top anyone.
Blistering.com: Which is not what MARDUK is doing either…
Mortuus: Absolutely. We create our own path.
Blistering.com: So today I got to listen to the new MARDUK album, "Wormwood", set for release in late September…I was totally blown away, it's so crushing! "Plague Angel" is definitely my favorite after "Panzer Division". "Rom 5:12" had a lot of fresh ideas and it took me a while to get over the fact that it wasn't as straightforward.
Mortuus: OK, if that's how you see it…
Blistering.com: "Wormwood" just breathes of FUNERAL MIST, it feels soaked in its blood, I feel "Maranatha"'s influence all over it. In my eyes it's obvious this is your input, because MARDUK's never really been so sophisticated, so varied and occult. How much of it is written by you?
Mortuus: Look, I wrote some of the music, I wrote some of the lyrics. The most important thing is that just like the last two albums, "Wormwood" is recorded by MARDUK, as a whole unit. It doesn't matter who did what, who came with what idea. We are as one.
Blistering.com: Where do you see this band going in the future? We can already talk about a great past…
Mortuus: Actually, we are not at a point right now where we can think so far ahead. We're just about to release this album, and we're touring a lot in the near future. We're taking it day by day. Who knows what will happen years from now, we're not worried about that. 7

Legendary NIRVANA Gig To Shine On Upcoming ReleaseAccording to The Pulse of Radio, NIRVANA's legendary August 30, 1992 headlining appearance at the U.K.'s Reading festival will make its official debut on CD and DVD on November 3, followed by a vinyl edition on November 17. Titled "Nirvana Live At Reading", the set will come as both a separate CD and DVD, as well as a deluxe CD/DVD package. The show has been circulated on bootlegs for years, but the DVD will feature a pristine copy of the original film, while the audio portion will be taken from the original recordings.
NIRVANA's Reading show featured early performances of several songs that would not make their recorded debut until 1993's "In Utero" album: "All Apologies", "Dumb" and "Tourette's". The show also included rare cover tunes and obscure songs from the band's pre-"Nevermind" days, as well as nearly every song from that 1991 breakthrough release.
Drummer Dave Grohl recalled the show as one of the biggest highlights of the band's initial success. "It was a huge show, and we were headlining, and we hadn't practiced for about three months, and we just stepped onstage and we expected it to suck really bad, and it turned out to be totally amazing," he said.
The Reading gig was ranked No. 1 in Kerrang! magazine's "100 Gigs That Shook The World" and was voted as "NIRVANA's Number One Greatest Moment" by fans in a poll sponsored by British music outlet NME.
Only two of the set's 25 songs have been officially released until now.
The set list for "Nirvana Live At Reading" is:
01. Breed
02. Drain You
03. Aneurysm
04. School
05. Sliver
06. In Bloom
07. Come as You Are
08. Lithium

BRING ME THE HORIZON: Remixed Version Of \'Suicide Season\' Due In NovemberAccording to Rock Sound, British metalcore act BRING ME THE HORIZON will release a remixed version of its latest album, "Suicide Season", on November 2 via Visible Noise. "Suicide Season - Cut Up" will also include the original version of "Suicide Season" as a bonus and will be packed with "additional treats and good stuff."
"It all started because I had a friend who is into making electro stuff and I asked him if he wanted to remix one of our songs," vocalist Oli Sykes told Rock Sound. "We were stoked on the end result and I thought it would be awesome if we could get every song remixed! We told our label and managers about the idea and they thought it was a good one. From there, we came up with a list of people we would love to remix our songs and started mailing people."
Tek-One, Robot Sonic, Ben Weinman from THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, Outcry Collective, L'Amour La Morgue (Ian Watkins from LOSTPROPHETS), Utah Saints and Shawn "Clown" Crahan from SLIPKNOT are among the musicians and producers who remixed and reinterpreted BRING ME THE HORIZON's music to create "Suicide Season - Cut Up".
According to Sykes, the album will be a surprise to both fans and critics alike.
"To be honest, there's not a song on there that really sounds like the original," he told Rock Sound. "What's great though is the diversity of each song. There's dub-step to hip-hop, electro to drum and bass. It's great!" 6

SEBASTIAN BACH Performs SKID ROW Classics With Country Duo BIG & RICH; Video AvailableEx-SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach performed two classic songs from his former band — "Youth Gone Wild" and "I Remember You" — with American country music duo BIG & RICH on August 25 at Telus Field in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
"John Rich [from BIG & RICH] asked me to come on a whole Canadian tour in January, tentatively," Bach told Noisecreep in a recent interview. "If it goes well in Edmonton, he said, 'Dude, let's take this thing across Canada — 20 gigs, BIG & RICH. You're on the bill every night, every city.' I'm like, 'You tell me when. Give me the plane ticket, and I'm there!' because I just love playing. I love playing music."

SLAYER: \'World Painted Blood\' To Be Released In NovemberCalifornia thrash metal veterans SLAYER will release their new album, "World Painted Blood", in the U.S. on November 3 (one day earlier internationally) via American Recordings/Columbia Records.
The final track listing for the CD is as follows:
01. World Painted Blood
02. Unit 731
03. Snuff
04. Beauty Through Order
05. Hate Worldwide
06. Public Display Of Dismemberment
07. Human Strain
08. Americon
09. Psychopathy Red
10. Playing With Dolls
11. Not Of This God
"As we're so excited about 'World Painted Blood'," said the band's drummer, Dave Lombardo, "we wanted to do something special for the packaging, and have been working with some really cool ideas. They've taken time to get just right, and with our headlining the Mayhem tour for most of the summer, it's just taken that much longer to get all these great ideas exactly the way we want them."
There will be three different editions of "World Painted Blood" —a limited-edition CD with multiple CD covers, a deluxe edition CD/DVD, and a high-quality, 180-gram vinyl edition; specifics for all editions will be detailed shortly.
"We hope our fans will like everything about 'World Painted Blood' as much as we do," Lombardo continued. "Recording this new album has been one of the greatest experiences we've had as a band. We were together during the writing process more than we had been for past albums, we worked more collectively, everyone's suggestions and ideas were heard and considered, and that camaraderie is definitely heard in the new album." 2
