Finnish thrashers DEAD SHAPE FIGURE have posted a new track entitled "Felix Culpa" on their MySpace page. According to the band, "[this is] the first song we composed with our drummer Mohkis when he came back last year. It's kind of a 'traditional' thrashy DEAD SHAPE FIGURE song but with a little bit of a melodic twist. The chorus section features some multi-harmony singing ala ALICE IN CHAINS by our singer Galzi and it came by a surprise for us that he is capable of delivering those kind of vocals... We are probably going to use that kind of singing more often in our songs so that some big label will sign us and give us a shitloads of cash so we can buy some good crack and old American cars."

DEAD SHAPE FIGURE's full-length debut, "The Grand Karoshi", was released in May 2008 via Season of Mist. Download the song "Blithering Icon" at this location.

SHRINEBUILDER, the project that features in its ranks Scott "Wino" Weinrich (ST. VITUS, THE HIDDEN HAND), Scott Kelly (NEUROSIS), Al Cisneros (OM, SLEEP), and Dale Crover (MELVINS), will release its self-titled debut album in October via Neurot Recordings. According to a press release, the CD is "a powerful culmination of its members' distinct styles that coalesce into an entity of its own. Comprised of five epic passages showcasing this group's grandiose merging of soulful doom dirges, spiritual mantras, monstrous buildups and chest-collapsing grooves, the debut is truly a must-hear album of 2009."

With industrial behemoths Rammstein almost ready to unleash a new slab of sonic terror Terrorizer’s princess of the dark Joy Lasher snuck a listen to eight tracks from their brand new, as yet untitled album.

‘Rammlied’
Billed as a celebration of all things Rammstein, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that ‘Rammlied’ is just the sort of dark gung-ho industrial metal we’ve come to love from the German band. Reminiscent of their early years, the song mixes traditional mittelalter with the industrial revolution.

‘Ich Tu Dir Weh’
Literally translated as ‘I Hurt You’, this is a no-shit, fuck you that sits on top of some particularly dirty, S&M-infused electro beats. With its brute-force chorus, you just know this is going to be a floor-filler once it hits the clubs. “Ich liebe dich nicht,” spits frontman Till Lindemann, which means “I don’t love you” and boy does he mean it!

‘Waidmanns Heil’
This is apparently what hunters said to each other in the olden days to wish them luck in their game and those naughty Rammstein boys have used it as a sexual innuendo here. It’s a full-on marching anthem, in the same kind of vein as ‘Links 2-3-4’ but with added military fanfare. Expect more unwarranted accusations of them being Nazis to follow….

‘Pussy’
WTF! Rammstein go Steel Panther on us! “You’ve got a pussy/I’ve got a dick/So what’s the problem?/Let’s do it quick!” sings Till with his tongue firmly in his cheek (We think that’s his tongue anyway). Hearing Rammstein sing such overtly sexual lyrics in English is quite surreal and it does beg the question of how serious they really are with this song. The music behind it is equally as cheesy as tonka beats mix with harder edged electro-industrial. And who says Germans don’t have a sense of humour?

‘B******’
Drop-kick drums, grinding riffs and horror-driven keyboards – it could almost be a Rob Zombie song were it not for Till’s unmistakable vocals. Whatever those stars might stand for, this is a real foot-tapper.

‘Haifisch’
Meaning shark, this is another floor-filler with its cheesy keyboards, orchestral touches and even a harp. There’s definitely a touch of ‘Mutter’ about this one.

‘Wiener Blut’
‘Mein Teil Part 2, this is Rammstein’s take on the Josef Fritzl case complete with a bombastic industrial metal racket chorus. More orchestral parts and even some strings demonstrate how the band’s sound has matured over the years.

‘Mehr’
About as close as Rammstein are going to get to a ballad this time round, ‘Mehr’ mixes the band’s classic thundering beats with those distinctive vocals and chucks in some strings to complement the whole thing. OK, so it’s not even remotely like a ballad – thank fuck for that!

Richie Kotzen's (ex-MR. BIG, POISON) will issue a new album called "Peace Sign" this fall. The exact release date for the effort will be announced soon.

Richie Kotzen'd first-ever live DVD, "Bootlegged In Brazil", was released in Europe on December 5, 2008 via Frontiers Records.

A perfect complement to the recent CD-only release "Live In Sao Paulo", "Bootlegged In Brazil" is the first official live performance to be made available by the acclaimed guitarist/vocalist.

The DVD features a performance from Kotzen's South American tour in 2007 and includes classic tracks from his repertoire: from the rhythmic labors of "A Love Divine" to "Go Faster" (off Kotzen's last studio album, "Return Of The Mother Head's Family Reunion") and the great "Doin' What The Devils Says To Do".

Richie Kotzen's sound is influenced by such classic artists as BAD COMPANY, FREE, early VAN HALEN and CREAM. They are the inspiration for his songs, but having deep Philadelphia roots, Kotzen tends to combine rock with the Motown influences he heard as a kid, offering the fans a soulful and timeless approach to the music.

Due on October 21 in Europe and November 11 in the U.S. via Regain Records, the CD was recorded at Tomas Asklund's Monolith Studio and features Infernus on guitar, Frank Watkins (OBITUARY) on bass, Pest on vocals and Tomas Asklund on drums.

Since Infernus wrote all the music for the album and extensive rehearsals and a pre-production recording had also been completed before second guitarist Tormentor rejoined the band last year, it was decided that it would be more convenient for Infernus to record all the guitars on the LP.

As previously reported, GORGOROTH recently spent time at Threeman Recordings in Stockholm with producer Nico Elgstrand (ENTOMBED). During the sessions, GORGOROTH frontman Pest replaced Gaahl's vocals for the "True Norwegian Black Metal - Live in Grieghallen" album, which was originally released in June 2008 via Regain Records. According to a posting on the group's web site, Infernus (guitar) "has already consulted legal representatives regarding this album, and is prepared to support Regain Records in the label's ongoing legal conflict with two of the band's ex-members, if any such support is needed."

Infernus recently won a court battle against vocalist Gaahl and bassist King ov Hell over the rights to the GORGOROTH band name. According to a posting on Infernus' MySpace page, "The court has decided that King ov Hell's trademark registration of the band name GORGOROTH is NOT valid and shall therefore be deleted. The court states that King ov Hell and Gaahl excluded themselves from the band GORGOROTH when they tried to fire Infernus in October 2007. The court further states that Infernus cannot be excluded from GORGOROTH, unless he himself decides to quit."

Infernus filed a lawsuit against King ov Hell in September 2008 claiming that King (the sixth bass player in GORGOROTH's history) went behind his back in September 2007 and secretly applied for trademark protection of the GORGOROTH bandname and logo, which Infernus had been using since 1992.

Former SCORPIONS drummer Herman Rarebell has finished laying down his drum tracks for the new HERMAN ZE GERMAN album with producer/guitarist Duke Jackson at 420 Studios in Collinsville, Illinois. The CD will be mastered in Munich, Germany at Plectron Studios. Songtitles set to appear on the as-yet-untitled effort include "Fast As Lightning" and "Don't Lose Your Trust".

SCORPIONS headlined the Scorpions Festival 2009 on July 6 Karaiskaki stadium in Athens, Greece. This year's edition of the event included a so-called SCORPIONS "reunion," featuring appearances by various former members of the band, including Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker and Rarebell.

NEVERMORE's Van Williams has finished recording the drums for the band's new album, "The Obsidian Conspiracy", in the group's hometown of Seattle with producer (and SOILWORK guitarist) Peter Wichers (who previously worked with Warrel Dane on Dane's solo debut, "Praises to the War Machine"). The rest of the instruments will be tracked at Wichers' studio in North Carolina. Longtime friend and collaborator Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ARCH ENEMY, EXODUS, MACHINE HEAD) will once again be handling mixing duties.

Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Emptiness Unobstructed", "And The Maiden Spoke" and "Without Morals". The band is also recording two cover songs during the current sessions: "The Crystal Ship" by THE DOORS and "Transmission" by THE TEA PARTY.

According to Dane, the song "And The Maiden Spoke" "is going to blow your minds; it's twisted, progressive lunatic fringe riffing with vicious hooklines."

The follow-up to 2005's "This Godless Endeavor" is tentatively due in early 2010 via Century Media Records.

Added Dane: "These songs are full of newfound rage, lyrically and musically. Jeff Loomis has come up with some amazing new riffs that will no doubt please old and new fans alike. Also, I think the combination of Peter and Andy will result in something very, very special."

The German edition of Metal Hammer magazine conducted an interview with Jeff Loomis at this year's Wacken Open Air festival, which was held July 30 - August 1, 2009 in Wacken, Germany. The chat can now be viewed at this location.

When asked if his instrumental solo album, "Zero Order Phase" (which was released in September 2008 through Century Media Records), affected the musical direction of the new NEVERMORE material, Loomis replied, "I wanted to do an instrumental CD for so long, just because I'm a fan of that style of music, and I finally had that opportunity. But I think that with the new NEVERMORE, it still sounds like the band, but I think I'm giving Warrel [Dane, vocals] a little bit more room this time around for more vocals rather than all the notey, kind of complex stuff and all that, so this time around it's just a little bit more wide open musically for him to really be able to do whatever he wants vocally this time around. So we'll see what happens. It's gonna be an interesting album for us, for sure.

NEVERMORE's "The Year Of The Voyager" DVD last year entered the German DVD chart at position No. 82.

Dutch black/experimental metal act GNAW THEIR TONGUES will release its new album, "All The Dread Magnificence Of Perversity", on September 8 via Crucial Blast.

Picking up where 2008's "An Epiphanic Vomiting Of Blood" left off, the new CD contains nine new tracks of "fearsome blackened orchestral chaos and abstract horror that still sounds like little else out there," according to a press release.

"On 'All The Dread Magnificence Of Perversity', we're feeling an even heavier bass-assault compared to the other releases, and this is easily the heaviest GNAW THEIR TONGUES release yet. This monstrous, noxious bottom-end roar that skulks and slithers throughout the album suggests a foul fusion of ABRUPTUM and Leonard Rosenman's most nightmarish film scores, piled in towering heaps of sadistic noise, warped orchestral strings, degraded samples, shrieking voices, and punishing lurching doom draped in suffocating atmosphere. Hyper-abstract black metal sound-collage? Wagnerian avant-doom psychosis? You can try, but GNAW THEIR TONGUES remain ultimately impossible to pin to any one genre."

Video footage of FAITH NO MORE frontman Mike Patton swallowing a two-foot shoelace from a piece of footwear that was thrown onstage during the band's August 16, 2009 performance at the Sziget Festival in Budapest, Hungary can be viewed below (go to around six-minute mark in the bottom clip).

According to the Italian news blog Musica Metal, Patton attempted to continue singing with the shoelace halfway down his throat, before spitting it out and handing it back to the audience. After returning to the stage, Patton commented, "I saw some eyebrows raised during my last stint, but that's my show, and now let's move on!"

"Night Is The New Day", the eighth studio album from Swedish masters of melancholy KATATONIA, has had its release date pushed back to November 2 in Europe and November 10 in North America via Peaceville Records. Nasso Ruskov of Bulgaria's Tangra Mega Rock recently conducted an interview with vocalist Zak Tell of the Swedish rap/metal combo CLAWFINGER. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Tangra Mega Rock: What's new in the CLAWFINGER camp then?

Zak: Hmm…. That's a hard question to answer, but I'll put it in a few words. What's new is that we're just trying to survive like all the other bands out there. The business is very different from what it was 15 years ago. You can't survive only by being in a band these days, so we're working and doing what we have to do to pay the rent and trying to find time for CLAWFINGER. The only plan we have for a release at the moment is a remake of "Deaf Dumb Blind" for the 20th anniversary . The plan is to re-record all the songs from that album and bring in guests. We've been talking to some of the guys from RAMMSTEIN and Peter Tägtgren from PAIN and HYPOCRISY. We've made some friends through the years and hopefully we can get them to add their own flavorings and colorings to those old tracks.

Tangra Mega Rock: So you're going to completely re-record the songs?

Zak: Yes. Because next year is the 20th anniversary since we started the band, so… it's a sort of celebration. I mean, we celebrate every time we're out playing anyway. It's also like a special treat for the fans who've stuck with us. It remains to be seen how it turns out, but if we can actually gather with these musician friends, then it can hopefully be something more than just a cheap remake that sounds more or less like the original. The plan is to make something a bit different.

Tangra Mega Rock: I was just about to ask you about RAMMSTEIN. Seeing as your drummer Henka plays in Richard Kruspe's side project EMIGRATE. are you friendly with those guys?

Zak: We actually don't have Henka with us anymore, but it's true that he did play with Richard on his solo album. I don't know how much you can actually know guys in other bands these days because all bands are busy doing their own thing. What a lot of people don't know, though, is that RAMMSTEIN supported us in 1995, when we were bigger and they were smaller. So we've known them since then, more or less. And of course they paid us back by letting us support them on their 2001 tour. I mean, there is some history there, we've done remixes for them and a bit of this and that, so there is some sort of connection, but it's not as if we call each other every day and chit-chat.

Commented singer Jason Wood: "We're really pumped about this new record and finally releasing it for our fans!

"We know a lot of fans are curious about the delays with this new album, but we assure you, if we could have gotten it to you sooner we would have! We have had so many problems with the studio we build to record this album. After spending close to $12,000 on building a completely enclosed soundproofed studio in the house that Mike [Hatalak, producer/guitarist] and I lived in and spending over two months finishing pre-production and tracking, our efforts were thwarted with a forced move out of the house. That move forced us to tear down our entire studio (salvaging about $2,000 of materials) within a holiday weekend. So we moved to a new house and rebuilt the studio.

"I'm looking forward to hearing reactions from our fans and foes and hopefully this album will make up for the long wait!".

ASSAILANT, the Umeå, Sweden-based band featuring guitarist Oscar Norberg ("little brother" of Emil of PERSUADER/SAVAGE CIRCUS fame and Nils Norberg of NOCTURNAL RITES), has issued the following update:

"Our keyboard player, Peder Sandström, has decided to leave the band due to the lack of interest. And, of course, we feel that it's a damn shame and a bit sad but we are happy for his sake. It is never easy to leave something you've invested so much time in, but then again, one should never force oneself to stay just because."

Marking the 20th anniversary of NIRVANA's debut album, Sub Pop will reissue the platinum-certified "Bleach" on November 3, 2009. This expanded CD/double-LP will include a never-before-released live performance, special packaging and the first run of the double-LP will be on 180g white vinyl (the first run of the original LP was also on white vinyl). Both formats will be available for pre-order at SubPop.com leading up to this edition's release.

Originally recorded over three sessions with producer Jack Endino at Seattle's Reciprocal Recording Studios in December 1988 and January 1989, "Bleach" was released in June 1989 and remains unequivocally/unsurprisingly Sub Pop's very favorite NIRVANA full-length. The album initially sold 40,000 copies, but was brought into the international spotlight following the release and worldwide success of their 1991 sophomore effort "Nevermind". Subsequently "Bleach" went on to sell 1.7 million copies in the U.S. alone, according to Nielsen SoundScan. This 20th-anniversary edition has been remastered from the original tapes at Sterling Sound in a session overseen by producer Jack Endino.

This edition will include an unreleased live recording of a complete February 9, 1990 show at the Pine Street Theatre in Portland, Oregon. Dutch death/thrash metal act DETONATION will enter the studio this weekend to begin recording the follow-up to 2007's "Emission Phase". Vocalist Koen Romeijn states, "Michiel [van der Plicht] will kick off the pre-production of our fourth studio album. He's got the weekend scheduled to record all the drum tracks for nine new, brutal songs. In the producer's chair, we have our good friend Harry van Breda (I-CHAOS).

"After this, Michiel will start touring across the world with GOD DETHRONED until mid-November. So in the meantime, we will work on the recordings, and get this thing rolling again.

"Can't wait to get into that whole recording process again; it's been almost three years since we recorded 'Emission Phase', so it's about time, goddamnit!

"So what can I tell you about the new stuff? Well, first of all, it's fucking brutal! You could say that we changed our sound into something new. It still has DETONATION written all over it, but this stuff is way more intense, faster, more metal and just better sounding than before. Michiel's drums are sick, Mike's riffs even sicker, and my vocals the sickest I have ever produced, haha!

"Some of the songtitles are 'Feeding On The Madness', 'Ruptured', 'Insults To My Heritage' and 'The Thirst To Slaughter'."

Professionally filmed video footage of LINKIN PARK singer Chester Bennington's side project, DEAD BY SUNRISE, performing the band's new single, "Crawl Back In", live in concert earlier this summer can be viewed here. The studio version of the song is available for streaming on the group's MySpace page.

DEAD BY SUNRISE recently finished filming videos for the songs "Crawl Back In" and "Let Down". with director P.R. Brown (SLIPKNOT, MÖTLEY CRÜE, KORN, GODSMACK, AVENGED SEVENFOLD). Both tracks will appear on the band's debut album, "Out Of Ashes", which is scheduled for release on October 13.

Bennington began working on DEAD BY SUNRISE back in 2006, explaining, "I came up with a few songs that felt and sounded really good, but I knew they weren't right stylistically for LINKIN PARK. They were darker and moodier than anything I'd come up with for the band. So I decided to work on them on my own rather than turn them over and have them transformed into LINKIN PARK tracks."

The band, which is Bennington on vocals, guitarists Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh (from ORGY/JULIEN-K), bassist Brandon Belsky, drummer Elias Anda (also from JULIEN-K), and keyboardist Anthony Valcic, recorded "Out Of Ashes" in Los Angeles with producer Howard Benson (MOTÖRHEAD, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE).

ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET, the Swedish band featuring former THE CROWN vocalist Johan Lindstrand, has issued the following update:

"The search for a new guitar player is over. We have found the perfect guy for this band. But we will wait with the presentation of him until we have played our show at the Festival Ilha Do Ermal [in Portugal] on the 28th of August, where we will do the last show with our great friend and session guitar player, Mr. Rune Foss [RECLUSION]. We are looking forward to this festival show very much as well as what the future might bring for the new lineup further on."

Longtime ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET guitarist Mikael Lagerblad quit the band on April 1.

Lagerblad said in a statement: "After three albums and almost five years in the band, I have decided to quit. It has been a great time and I'm proud of the music that we have created. Even though ONE MAN ARMY has been a big part of my life, I feel I'm ready to move on. During the last couple of months my motivation and inspiration has not been at the high level it used to be. It might sound like a cliché, but there's no bad blood between us and I'm comfortable with my decision."

ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET's third album, "Grim Tales", was released on October 24, 2008 via Massacre Records. The CD was made available as a limited-edition digipack containing a bonus DVD. It was recorded at the Black Lounge Studios in Avesta, Sweden with producer Jonas Kjellgren (SCAR SYMMETRY).

Vitamin Records has set a September 29 release date for the "Vitamin String Quartet Tribute To Alice In Chains".

A description of the album reads as follows: "First you hear the distorted roar, then the piercing wail, and your only choice is to let ALICE IN CHAINS take root in your soul. Commented guitarist Scott Hedrick: "The art really sums up the new album and what drew me to heavy metal in the first place: it's brutal, evil, and in a sadistic way, it's f#$king fun! 'Breathing the Fire' is meaner, faster, and far more sickening than 'Beyond the Permafrost', and the art reflects that. We went for the jugular, and so does Andrei's art. He did an amazing job. It's f#$king killer when the artist and band share a similar approach: organic. Blood and sweat, ink and paint, tubes in amps, and non-triggered drums. A set of balls. Not gym shorts, sterile computer generated art, effects pedals and redundant arpeggios."

SKELETONWITCH began recording "Breathing The Fire" on June 14 with producer Jack Endino (NIRVANA, HIGH ON FIRE, TOXIC HOLOCAUST). The CD is being tracked in Seattle at both Studio Litho (owned by PEARL JAM guitarist Stone Gossard) and Endino's own Soundhouse Recording. An October 13 release via Prosthetic Records is expected.

SKELETONWITCH will team up with CHILDREN OF BODOM for a North American tour in the fall. Also appearing on the bill is THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER.

Throughout the first few months of 2009, SKELETONWITCH has continued to tour extensively in support of its latest album, "Beyond The Permafrost". In recent weeks, the group delivered a show-stealing performance at the inaugural Scion Rock Fest, played multiple South By Southwest (SXSW) showcases with labelmates KYLESA and crossed the country with AMON AMARTH.
