SLIPKNOT is slated to reissue its 1999 self-titled major label debut on September 9 to celebrate the record's 10th anniversary and the band's decade as recording artists.

Corey: "This box set will include the first album, a bunch of deep cuts from the vault, a video showing you exactly what we had to go through in the first year and a half.

"It meant a lot to us that you've been with us for this long. It's gonna mean a lot to us to check out where we've been.

"10 years is a long time for this band, and it's gonna be another 10 years. So enjoy it."

SLIPKNOT has been commemorating the upcoming anniversary for much of the past year since issuing its latest record last August, "All Hope Is Gone". Taylor told The Pulse of Radio that things couldn't be going better for the group at this point. "Everything that we've always wanted, and that we've always pictured for this band is kind of coming true in this last year and a half," he said. "You know, this is kind of the culmination of 10 years of just barreling through the mud, you know, sweating through the dark times, and this is really the payoff. And the great thing is, is that we're old enough to appreciate it."

Reactivated New Jersey thrashers WHIPLASH have posted a new song, "Feeding Frenzy", on their MySpace page. The track comes off the band's new album, "Unborn Again", which is scheduled for release before the end of July via Pulverised Records. The CD was recorded at Mozart Studio with world-renowned engineer/producer Harris Johns (SODOM, KREATOR, HELLOWEEN, SEPULTURA). The band mixed and mastered the CD at Spiderhouse Studio.

EYES OF NOCTUM, the California-based black metallers fronted by Weston "Arcane" Coppola Cage (18-year-old son of actor Nicolas Cage), are in the middle of a short U.S. tour which will bring them to O'Brien's Pub in Allston, Massachusetts tonight (Wednesday, July 15) alongside CLOSED CASKET, WHO CARRIES THE LANTERN and BONE RITUAL.

"We don't drag with us the essence of Hollywood," Weston tells BostonHerald.com. "I have a dark maniacal side and sometimes I want to decimate every person in the room. But I also want to enlighten. We have a variety of different fans and get different reactions."

He adds, "I've always had a certain sentiment in me I couldn't define. As a teenager, I gravitated toward more darker music."

EYES OF NOCTUM's debut album, "Awakening", is due later in the year through Morbid Rose Records. The CD was recorded at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden with acclaimed producer Fredrik Nordström (DIMMU BORGIR, IN FLAMES, HAMMERFALL). Norwegian drummer Hellhammer (MAYHEM, DIMMU BORGIR) and Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw (THERION, DREAM EVIL, KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE, MEMENTO MORI, NOTRE DAME) both make guest appearances on the CD.

The deluxe expanded editions of BLACK SABBATH's 1970 self-titled debut and 1971 third album "Master Of Reality" — both with alternate studio versions, demos and instrumentals of classic songs and in the case of the latter, previously released track "Weevil Woman" — were made available late last month via Sanctuary/Universal Music.

Guitarist Lord Ahriman of the Swedish black metallers DARK FUNERAL has issued the following update:

"Finally! Today, July 10 we will enter the Abyss studio together with producer Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN) to begin the recording of a new, yet-untitled, full-length album. Not sure how long it’ll take to finalize and nail the new stuff, but we’re roughly expecting to spend the next four-five weeks or so in the studio.

"Since we won't have regular access to Internet while we work on the new record, we have set up a Twitter account. This way we can text in short updates to keep you all as updated as possible throughout the entire recording session.

"During the recording session, we will also write some more in-depth studio reports, of course, but through Twitter we can provide you with short and daily updates. We will also be filming, so keep your eyes open for video reports as well."

Guitarist/vocalist Tony Freed of reactivated Swedish death metallers GODHATE (formerly THRONEAEON) has issued the following update:

"After some heavy touring throughout the world, we are back in the studio doing the final mixing of the [new GODHATE] album. It has taken longer than I could ever imagine (10 months all in all), but I guess it had to be done. And finally I can say that I'm proud of what we have achieved. It sounds very harsh and raw but still with a very good production and a production which is far better than we have ever had. It contains some of the best songs we have ever written and this is, by far, the best CD we have ever recorded. This is the masterpiece!

"The new CD is entitled 'Equal In The Eyes Of Death' and will be released during the beginning of fall 2009!

"I'm also glad to say that we finally made it to the U.S.!! The tour we did between May 7 and May 22 is a milestone for GODHATE. This was a great success for us and we expect to be back in the states in October!!

"But this wasn't the only good thing that happened to GODHATE...

"In February, we started with a Sweden tour with VOLTURYON and OVEROTH, did the Hardline therapy festival in Czech Republic and we finished our 'Spring Tour 2009' with another four days in Ireland, again with OVEROTH.

GODHATE recently uploaded music from its forthcoming album to the band's MySpace page. The song "Godhate" and a sample featuring parts of different songs (all from the upcoming CD) are available for streaming at this location.

The new GODHATE album was engineered by Dino Medanhodzic (CARNAL FORGE guitarist) at Elastic studio.

According to The Pulse of Radio, LINKIN PARK singer Chester Bennington's side project, DEAD BY SUNRISE, has launched its MySpace page and posted a song there called "Morning After". With its keyboards and layered guitars, the song is reminiscent of what HardDrive Radio calls "the early days of DEPECHE MODE." The group's debut album, titled "Out Of Ashes", is tentatively scheduled for a September release, with Bennington saying in a statement that the project is "more personal" than anything he's ever done before.

The album's tentative first single is called "Crawl Back In".

Bennington began working on DEAD BY SUNRISE back in 2006, explaining, "I came up with a few songs that felt and sounded really good, but I knew they weren't right stylistically for LINKIN PARK. They were darker and moodier than anything I'd come up with for the band. So I decided to work on them on my own rather than turn them over and have them transformed into LINKIN PARK tracks."

The band, which is Bennington on vocals, guitarists Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh (from ORGY/JULIEN-K), bassist Brandon Belsky, drummer Elias Anda (also from JULIEN-K), and keyboardist Anthony Valcic, recorded "Out Of Ashes" in Los Angeles with producer Howard Benson (MOTÖRHEAD, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE).

The band has played just a handful of live shows, but has been confirmed for the lineup of England's Sonisphere festival on August 1-2. The event is headlined by METALLICA and LINKIN PARK.

Finnish melodic death metallers NOUMENA have issued the following update:

"We have had a slow-motion period going on for some time. Things will change as we enter frantic rehearsing and composing stage. There are a couple of new NOUMENA songs written already, but we need more. Just to show NOUMENA is alive and kicking, please get familiar with a demo version of a brand new song called 'Sleep' at our MySpace page. The song also introduces a stunning new voice in NOUMENA soundscape. Female vocalist Suvi Uura will give you some shivers...

"At the moment we don't have a record deal with any label. No need to mention, but our goal is to get one and release a convincing album in future!

"We might play some gigs in Finland later this year or in the beginning of 2010. Let's see. Nothing is certain, but we shall continue our journey as stubbornly as the previous 11 years."

MIDNATTSOL — the German-Norwegian band featuring vocalist Carmen Elise Espenaes (the younger sister of LEAVES' EYES singer Liv Kristine) — has parted ways with guitarist Fabian Pospiech. According to the band, "Fabz [recently] became father of a little son. Such events always also bring some changes in life, thus Fabz decided to concentrate increasingly on his family and his new job. Unfortunately, this also means that Fabz won’t be able to play at MIDNATTSOL any longer. We can understand his decision very well and wish him all the best and good luck for the future!"

The band continues, "To complete the lineup and blast off again we are searching for a band experienced and creative guitarist. Do you already have live experience, are you motivated and ready for headbanging? Then please write to newguitarist@midnattsol.com and give us a short description about yourself (if possible with a picture) and what you have musically done so far.

"What you can expect at us? A record deal, a rehearsal room at Ludwigsburg near Stuttgart, festivals and tours and of course us, a bunch of Midnattsols that like to party. We are currently writing songs for our third album and would be happy if you immediately join us with this and at the forthcoming Metal Female Voices Fest in Belgium. Musicians from Ludwigsburg / Stuttgart and the greater region will be preferred."

British gothic metal pioneers PARADISE LOST are streaming a new song, "As Horizons End", on their MySpace page. The track comes off the band's new album, "Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us", due on September 28, 2009 in Europe and October 6, 2009 in the U.S. via Century Media Records.

Commented vocalist Nick Holmes: "This song is about someone who's on a downward spiral. Working too hard and trying to claw back some positive spirit by participating in all the so-called joyous occasions in life, socializing and networking but to no avail, the long days have crushed the soul till only disappointment and cynicism remains. This song was inspired by the thousands of disheveled-looking middle-aged businessmen I see in airports each year. This track has had a dozen facelifts since its inception and in true fashion, it was never intended to be the first track. Once it was mixed though it was hard to imagine any other song opening the album."

Added guitarist Greg Mackintosh: "The whole point to this song was to capture a feeling of foreboding. Like when a thunderstorm is approaching. All the chord progressions are supposed to give an ominous sense of dread. The mid section lulls you into thinking that you're safe only to discover there is much bigger storm on the horizon."

"Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us" was recorded at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden with producer Jens Bogren. The highly anticipated follow-up to 2007's "In Requiem" features around 10 tracks, including "First Light", "Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us", "Frailty" and "My Last Regret".

Holmes recently stated about the album's title, "The thoughts behind the title 'Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us' are very much self-explanatory. There is so much division in the world caused by obstructing religious belief. We are all made of the same flesh and bone. What makes one religion better than the other, and would any true god allow his creation to destroy itself? The vast number of different so-called faiths around the globe just helps to strengthen my complete denial of any god and force the belief that religion is nothing more than a man-made, cash-induced fabrication to exploit a human being's natural fear of death."

Regarding the band's decision to work with Bogren this time around, Holmes previously stated, "We are very happy with [producer] Rhys Fulber's work on the last album ['In Requiem'], but after working on three albums together, we decided it was time to go for a different approach. After hearing the work he did with our 'Anatomy Of Melancholy' live DVD, we decided that Jens Bogren was the man for the job."

He continued, "Our approach this time has leaned even more towards the heavier side of things, even more so than the last. It is vital not to lose touch with our musical trip over the last 20 years. Our music may have had different facelifts, but it has always been 'dark' and the new album will be no exception. Musically and lyrically.

"Writing a new album is always exciting; we never get bored of writing music, and for me, it is the best part of being in a band. Each album is like a challenge to better ourselves, or at the very least, do something that's different to everyone else. We strive to make the ultimate modern gothic metal album, and for me that has nothing to do with the common trend of 'romance' and 'roses.' It should be music to be murdered by."

HYPOCRISY, the Swedish extreme metal band led by guitarist/vocalist Peter Tägtgren (also of PAIN), has set "A Taste Of Extreme Divinity" as the title of its new album, due on October 23 in Europe via Nuclear Blast Records. Peter states, "I'm at the end of the recording and mixing; a few songs left to sing on. The rest are done mixing-wise. It's just been too busy with touring and recording bands, and I didn't wanna burn myself out totally." He adds, "We're happy [with] the result so far; it got everything a HYPO album should have in our own point of view."

Reunited Oakland, California thrashers DEFIANCE have issued the following update:

"As of yesterday, DEFIANCE has finished tracking the new album for Candlelight Records! Candlelight is looking at a September release date for first album from DEFIANCE since 1992's 'Beyond Recognition', released by Roadrunner Records.

"We finished up at Trident Studios on Sunday with Jim [Adams; guitar] and Mike [Kaufmann; bass] completing the last of their parts, and Steev [Esquivel; also of SKINLAB] came down to help arrange some last-minute additions to the lead sections with Jim on a couple of songs. Snake came by in the afternoon to deliver all the completed vocals he recorded at his studio in Berkeley, Greendot Studios.

"All we have left is to get Glen's [Alvelais; FORBIDDEN, TENET, TESTAMENT] solos and to have Juan [Urteaga, producer] finish mixing and mastering the album!

"DEFIANCE is working with Travis Smith on the album cover artwork and concept.

"Once the album is released DEFIANCE will be looking to support the effort in Europe and perhaps the U.S., if the right opportunity arises."

DEFIANCE recently posted a new song, entitled "The Voice", on the band's MySpace page. Along with the new album, DEFIANCE is also working on putting together a DVD, tentatively titled "Decade(s) of Defiance", that will chronicle the band's entire career from 1985 to the present.

Part of the so-called "second wave" of Bay Area thrash (which also included the likes of FORBIDDEN, VIO-LENCE, DEATH ANGEL, and TESTAMENT), DEFIANCE officially disbanded in 1993 after the departure of vocalist Steev Esquivel (who would go on to form SKINLAB, and later RE:IGNITION), while the remaining members, with the addition of vocalist Dave Godfrey White (HEATHEN), formed INNER THRESHOLD, which would also eventually disband.

In 2005, rumors of a reformed DEFIANCE sent waves of interest through the burgeoning thrash metal community until it was finally confirmed that the band had in fact reunited and were at work on their first new material in over a decade.

Metal Mind Productions released "Insomnia", a three-CD digipack containing remastered versions of the following DEFIANCE albums: 1989's "Product of Society", 1990's "Void Terra Firma", and 1992's "Beyond Recognition". This special collector's edition includes classic material from Roadrunner Records' archives, digitally remastered using 24-bit technology and released on golden discs. The three-CD digipack edition is limited to a hand-numbered 2,000 copies and contains a 28-page booklet with lyrics to all songs, full story of the band, and over 20 bonus tracks taken from the band's archives.

Italy's Rock TV conducted an interview with METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich when the band played Milan on June 22, 2009. Watch the chat in two parts below.

Regarding METALLICA's future plans, Ulrich said, "Right now the only plan in METALLICA is we're more or less trying to survive this tour. We've got another 14 months — we're going out through August 2010. It's difficult for me to think about another record, so there are no plans. But the experience with [producer] Rick Rubin [who worked on 2008's 'Death Magnetic'] was a very positive one that I'm pretty sure that we're going to make another record with Rick; I would like to make another record with Rick at some point."

Guitarist Rudolf Schenker of German hard rock veterans SCORPIONS will release his official German-language autobiography, "Rock Your Life", in Germany on October 14. An English-language version is also planned. More details will be revealed soon.

SCORPIONS recently extended their record deal with Ariola, which is part of the international media conglomerate Sony BMG Music Entertainment. The band's new album, for which the SCORPIONS recently recorded six new songs at Rudolf Schenker's studio, is not expected to arrive before 2010.

SCORPIONS' latest CD, "Humanity - Hour 1", was produced by James Michael and co-produced by songwriter/producer Desmond Child, who has worked with such high-profile pop/rock artists as AEROSMITH, BON JOVI, ALICE COOPER, KISS, RICKY MARTIN, CHER, MICHAEL BOLTON and BONNIE TYLER.

The Best Buy edition of "Humanity - Hour 1" includes an exclusive track, "Cold". "Cold" was previously included on the Japanese pressing of the CD along with another bonus cut, a radio edit of "Love Will Keep Us Alive".

"Necrology", the new album from the Swedish death metal band MY OWN GRAVE, can be streamed in its entirety at the Pulverised Records MySpace page. The stream will be available until July 23.

"Necrology" is scheduled for release on July 20. The CD was produced by Dan Swanö at Unisound (DISSECTION, DARK FUNERAL) in Sweden while the artwork was created by illustrator/tattooist Jon Zig (SUFFOCATION, DEEDS OF FLESH, SINISTER).

Commented Swanö: "When I hear albums like this, it makes me proud to be a part of the Swedeath phenomenon. Great songs with well-crafted hooks and a musicianship to die for. The perfect blend between old-school and modern death fucking metal!!"

German progressive black metallers SECRETS OF THE MOON will release their new album, "Privilegivm", on September 11 in Germany and September 14 in the rest of Europe via Prophecy Productions. According to the band. The CD's cover art, which was designed by "France's best media artist" Metastazis, can be viewed below.

"Privilegivm" was was produced by Markus Stock and was mastered by Peter in De Betou at Stockholm, Sweden's Tailor Maid Production.

According to JonLord.org, former DEEP PURPLE keyboardist Jon Lord has confirmed three Russian concerts for October — in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg.

The concerts are Jon Lord's first solo appearances in Russia, and they will feature the Concerto for Group and Orchestra with a selection of his solo pieces plus a couple of DEEP PURPLE songs — all performed by Jon Lord with local orchestras.

Between the three concerts, Jon Lord will travel some 2,800 km within Russia.

The three dates are:

Oct. 09 – Yekaterinburg (1,600 km East of Moscow)
Oct. 12 – St. Petersburg
Oct. 15 – Moscow
