Report: 14-Year-Old MARILYN MANSON Fan Shoots Four, Kills Self At Cleveland High SchoolThe Associated Press reports that a 14-year-old suspended student, wearing a black MARILYN MANSON concert shirt, black jeans and black-painted finger nails, opened fire in his Cleveland, Ohio high school Wednesday, wounding four people as terrified schoolmates hid in closets and bathrooms and huddled under laboratory desks. He then killed himself.
A fellow student at SuccessTech Academy alternative school said Asa H. Coon, who was suspended for fighting two days earlier, had made threats in front of students and teachers last week.
"He's crazy. He threatened to blow up our school. He threatened to stab everybody," Doneisha LeVert said. "We didn't think nothing of it."
Coon was armed with two .38 caliber revolvers, and police found a duffel bag stocked with ammunition and three knives in a bathroom, officials said. Parents were angry that firearms got into a school equipped with metal detectors that students said were intermittently used.
Officials said two teachers and two students were shot, and that a 14-year-old girl fell and hurt her knee while running out of the school. 12

DARK FUNERAL's EMPEROR MAGUS CALIGULA Joins DEMONOIDDEMONOID, the Swedish old-school death/thrash metal project featuring THERION members Kristian Niemann (guitar) and Johan Niemann (bass) along with former SOILWORK/CHIMAIRA drummer Richard Evensand, has recruited DARK FUNERAL vocalist Emperor Magus Caligula to replace THERION's Christofer Johnsson, who sang on the group's debut, 2004's "Riders of the Apocalypse". "We're extremely excited to have [Emperor Magus Caligula] aboard and we can't wait to unleash some seriously face-melting metal upon you," the band writes in a statement.
DEMONOID is working on material for its second full-length CD, tentatively due next year. "The writing for the new album is going quite well....it will crush," says Kristian. "Of course. Imagine a 100-ton block of concrete falling on your nutsack (or head, if you're a girl)....that's how much it will crush!!!!! Now if you don't have: a) a nutsack, nor b) a head, well then.....you just have to take my word for it!"
According to the band's official bio, "the musical concept of DEMONOID is not symphonic metal like THERION; in fact, the band strived to go back in time and create a fresh and challenging combination of basically old school death and violent thrash metal elements, also mingled with a touch of modern black metal. Both Kristian and Johan have gotten into the more brutal forms of metal quite lately and some of their references are CRADLE OF FILTH and DIMMU BORGIR, while Christofer, having been the growler of THERION in earlier days, has extended knowledge of the thrash and death scene from late '80s and early '90s. Thus bands like SLAYER and BATHORY as well as all the old-school death metal bands from those the early times rank among his main references. Those facts create a very interesting combination, featuring Kristian's more than awesomely awesome guitar work, Christofer's by far best vocal performances up to now, Richard's insanely powerful and technical kick-ass drumming and Johan's crushing, inventive, heavy-as-a-brick-on-your-scrotum bass lines." 1

SYSTEM OF A DOWN Members Recording 18 Songs For SCARS ON BROADWAY DebutSYSTEM OF A DOWN drummer John Dolmayan has issued the following update on SCARS ON BROADWAY, his new project with SYSTEM OF A DOWN's Daron Malakian (guitarist, vocalist, songwriter):
"Yesterday [Thursday, Sept. 27], Daron and I began recording SCARS ON BROADWAY's debut album. We've gone in with close to 18 songs. The music is expansive, experimental, and sometimes in your face...
"We're very excited to get it down and get it out to all of you."
Malakian co-produced (with Rick Rubin) SYSTEM OF A DOWN's multi-platinum albums "Toxicity" (2001) and the dual-disc "Mezmerize/Hypnotize" (2005), all three of which hit the No. 1 spot on The Billboard 200 chart.
SYSTEM OF A DOWN has been on hiatus since last year, with its members working on various side projects. This has naturally led to rumors that the band was breaking up permanently. But bassist Shavo Odadjian told The Pulse of Radio that SYSTEM OF A DOWN is far from over. "SYSTEM is alive and well," he said. "We're just not working together right now. We kind of like split up at first, but you know, we're brothers, man, we'll take bullets for each other. So it's like, you kind of miss each other after a while and you, one guy makes the first move, then another starts making phone calls....this is a juggernaut, man. SYSTEM OF A DOWN is my lifeline. It'll never go away. We could not make a record for 10 years — that's not gonna happen, but I'm just saying we could — and we'll come back strong."
SYSTEM OF A DOWN vocalist Serj Tankian will release his first solo CD, titled "Elect the Dead", on October 23. 2

Reunited CARCASS Confirmed For Next Year's WACKEN OPEN AIR FestivalReactivated British extreme legends CARCASS have been confirmed for next year's installment of the Wacken Open Air festival, set to take place July 31 - August 2, 2008 in Wacken, Germany. Also scheduled to appear are IRON MAIDEN (headliners), CHILDREN OF BODOM, AVANTASIA, KREATOR and SONATA ARCTICA.
Commented CARCASS bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker: "Well, they said it would never happen. In fact I said it would never happen. Then I noticed no one pays attention to what I say anyway and I sounded like an idiot...
"Summer 2008 will be the twentieth anniversary since the release of CARCASS' first studio album. It will be fourteen years since we last played live.
"We've decided to exhume the old corpse next summer at Wacken. The timing is purely coincidental — it's been a long journey to get to this point where myself, Bill Steer [guitar] and Mike Amott [guitar; also of ARCH ENEMY] have enough common desire again to make it possible. We're finally conceding to the demand that seems to be at an all time high and doesn't appear to be going away any time soon. Any past reasons we may have had for not wanting to do it, or thinking it was impossible, have simply dissipated in the face of overwhelming interest in us performing THOSE riffs for a generation of believers who never had the opportunity back in the day. We could say we're doing it for 'the kids' — but fuck that ! We're doing it 'cos it will be fun again to play the classic CARCASS tunes!!
"Of course, it would seem inappropriate for us to contemplate to do this without Ken Owen [drums], but I assure you he'll be there, and we'll push some sticks in his hands and make him play, plus we'll have a killer drummer to sit in and play HIS parts.
"Myself, Jeff Walker on bass and vocals, 'the semi-legendary' Bill Steer and Mike Amott on lead guitar and Daniel Erlandsson [ARCH ENEMY], filling in for Ken on drums look forwards to mutilating your hearing.
"And if we don't do it? Who else will overshadow the LED ZEPPELIN reunion?
"Ha!
"Prepare to rot and roll."
In a recent interview with MTV.com, Michael Amott stated about the possibility of CARCASS reunion, "It seems like it never goes away — like this ghost that's always hanging over me. It's nice. It's a pleasant ghost, because [CARCASS are] a band I'm proud of, because it was one of the better bands to come out of that style of music at that time. The band itself seems bigger now than when we packed it in [back in 1995]. I can't believe it."
"With [CARCASS], you have four people who have all moved on and do different things now," he said. "For the last few years, I've been quite open about [my desire to reunite CARCASS]. ... It's not a question of, 'Do I want to play this kind of music?,' because I still totally love metal. I would love to do it."
The ex-members of CARCASS hooked up in 2006 to rehearse (as first reported by BLABBERMOUTH.NET on September 18) for the first time in many years.
"We thought, 'Let's just try to get our schedules together, jam a little bit, and see if it's even feasible,' " Amott said. "The question always comes up in interviews, and we kind of all became intrigued ourselves, if it would actually work. So we met up, rehearsed for about a week, and by the end of the week, it sounded amazing."
He added, "The band wouldn't set out to write or record new material, because "the old stuff was just that good. It would just be a blast to go out and play those — dare I say it — classic tunes again, those riffs. It would be fun. Bill's guitar playing was amazing — he was one of my heroes before I joined the band. So yeah, I would love to do it again. I love that band, love the music. We'll see — maybe it would shut people up. Let's hope the CARCASS can come back." 7

STRATOVARIUS Guitarist: 'True Friendship Keeps Its Promises'STRATOVARIUS guitarist Timo Tolkki has posted the following message on his official MySpace page:
"After writing those Mother Theresa's words, I have had to think about them carefully.
"Very strange developments have happened to me lately. A string of people that I considered to be my friends started to act in ways that I did not understand. They made unreasonable demands on me, did not keep their promises, repeatedly ignored their promises, changed their views 360 degrees, but expected me to understand them immediately and could not see things from my point of view.
"No matter how hard I tried to explain that there is no way I can change things so quickly, it did not matter. Then I realized what I knew before, many people are very self-centered and they cannot step into other person's shoes. This inability is sometimes called narcisissim. I used to have it too and I worked very hard to achieve that I would never hurt anyone because of my actions. Or that I at least would try to see it from the other perspective. It taught me a lesson, that although Mother Theresa's words are truly important, we have to sometimes make painful decisions that are not always so saintly.
"I have put my own well being as a priority and if that is in danger of being corrupted, then I remove these 'friends' from my life. Carry on, disappointed, but carry of anyway.
"It is not easy to tell people that I have to terminate our friendship, but it is important one, because as Dio has written: 'The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes then steal your dreams it's Heaven and Hell.'
"True friendship keeps its promises and does not try to take advantage of you. It is hard to find." 13

OPETH Mainman: 'Drip Drip, From Your Sagging Lip!'OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt has issued the following update:
"I spent a few days in London and guys... I've met a few very interesting persons, namely the original line-up of COMUS, one of my all time favourite bands. Me and my friend Stefan Dimle (owner of the Mellotronen store) had dinner with them and I tell ya, it was amazing! Stefan is putting together a fantastic package for an upcoming gig, due to take place in March 2008 on a ferry cruise between Sweden and Finland. COMUS will play on this boat for the first time since 1974! I'm still in shock!
"I had Glenn Goring play 'The Herald' in front of my fucking face! I can't believe it...there's a clip on YouTube [watch the clip below — Ed.] that Stefan posted and I look like a grinning idiot! Wow! I have met Roger Wootton, my hero...the guy who've inspired me a 1000 times and more! I got a miniature boat as a gift from Bobbie Watson, who is probably one of the sweetest person I've ever met. I had Andy Hellaby insist on paying my beer after having slammed a copy of their ultra-rare 7" single on the table before my eyes. I guess you cannot understand my excitement if you're not.....me.
"Later that day I met Pete French, for me legendary for his vocal work in bands like LEAFHOUND (also playing on the boat), ATOMIC ROOSTER and CACTUS. Perfect gentleman and he told some great stories too! As I went to bed, instead of my usual dreams about filthy sex I was dreaming about 7" COMUS singles, LEAFHOUND original LPs and the chance of hearing 'Diana' live! Dreams can come true...sorry for that fucking cliché...really, sorry!
"Anyways, I had to share that with you.
"Also saw DREAM THEATER last night and they were great! Listening to..... 'Songs of Experience' by DAVID AXELROD! Great record!
"Playing 'Bioshock'....great game!
"Melinda [Mikael's three-year-old daughter] is now a big fan of KISS, and me and my wife have to listen to 'Dynasty' maybe 3-4 times a day. I have nothing to do with it, she's just a fan...now, all of a sudden. Anyways, good choice I must say...we bought her a personal vinyl copy of the album so she can listen to it as much as she wants."
As previously reported, OPETH will support DREAM THEATER on the prog-metal giants' next North American tour in April/May 2008. More details will be announced soon.
