KONKHRA Close To Finishing New AlbumDanish extreme metallers KONKHRA recently finished re-recording their long-awaited new album after encountering technical difficulties which forced them to scrap some of the previously completed early tracks.
Commented guitarist/vocalist Anders Lundemark: "We are getting very close now. Tue [Madsen, producer/mixer] has sent the first testmix, which was cool, but called for a couple of changes. Tue has to work on another band for the next two weeks, so we have time to change the little details, so we can finish the record in about three weeks. We have also seen the first roughs for the cover, which was absolutely mindblowing. Fabio, who did the 'Reality Check' cover, got the lyrics and basic ideas and within 48 hours we had what will without a doubt be the coolest cover we had grace the packaging of our music."
A new KONKHRA instrumental demo track, which has the working title "Killswitch One", has been posted at the band's MySpace.
KONKHRA released its latest CD, "Reality Check", in May 2003 through Code666 Records. The album was recorded at guitarist/vocalist Anders Lundemark's own Starstruck Studio and was the group's first since their split with longtime label Diehard Records.

CRYSTAL BALL Signs With AFM RECORDSSwiss melodic metallers CRYSTAL BALL have inked a deal with AFM Records. The group's sixth album, tentatively titled "Secrets", will be produced by Michael Bormann (ex-JADED HEART, BLOODBOUND) and it will be mixed by Achim Köhler (PRIMAL FEAR, BRAINSTORM). An October 26 release is expected.

CRYSTAL BALL's latest effort, "TimeWalker", entered the Swiss national album chart at position No. 56 in September 2005. The follow-up to 2003's "Hellvetia" was once again produced by Stefan Kaufmann (ACCEPT, U.D.O.) and includes 12 tracks.
CRYSTAL BALL features in its ranks frontman Mark Sweeney, who recently released his first solo album.

BEHEMOTH: Too Dangerous For Poland?Chris Harris and Jon Wiederhorn of MTV.com report: This week, a Polish anti-sect organization dubbed "The All-Polish Committee for Defense Against Sects" released a list of artist it claims "promote Satanism" or "encourage murder and animal sacrifice" with their music. The group plans to distribute the list to a number of Polish politicians next month, in hopes that the officials will ban said artists from performing in the Central European nation.
The list includes, among others, MARILYN MANSON and SLAYER — who, oddly enough, are touring the U.S. together this summer. Another act making the list is one of Poland's own, blackened death metallers BEHEMOTH — who'll also be touring the U.S. this summer, as part of this year's 11th annual Ozzfest.
Adam "Nergal" Darski, BEHEMOTH's frontman, said he questions the motives of the APCFDAS and thinks the attempt to ban his band from performing in his native land is, well, ridiculous.
"You have these politicians who, for some reason — probably just for self-promotion — want to fight this kind of stuff," he explained. "This is music. This is art. This is some kind of expression, and this is our expression. For some reason, they think it has a negative influence on kids, so they want to stop it. So they made this list that's going to come out next month, and BEHEMOTH is #1. ... I'm not sure if they'll [be able to enforce it], because it's a violation of the most basic democratic rules. It's very extreme and very dangerous." 7

HEARSE: 'In These Veins' To Receive North American Release In September HEARSE is the Swedish "death 'n' roll" band featuring former ARCH ENEMY singer Johan Liiva and ex-FURBOWL drummer Max Thornell, will release its fourth album, "In These Veins", in North America on September 18, 2007 via Candlelight Records.
The follow-up to 2005's "The Last Ordeal", "In These Veins" was recorded and mixed by Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY, BLOODBATH) and is "definitely the best-sounding HEARSE album so far," according to the band. "Dan had pretty much free hands and gave the recording quite a rough touch even though it sounds much more modern than our earlier albums."
In other news, HEARSE is already making plans to record its fifth CD. "15 songs are pretty much finished and a pre-production has been made in the now legendary Stockholm-situated studio Gubbsjuk," the group writes on its web site. "As soon as we get a recording budget we'll begin recording the album."
Formed by longtime friends Thornell and Liiva, HEARSE recorded a demo before signing with Hammerheart Records. The band released a limited-edition 7-inch single, entitled "Torch", prior to issuing their debut album, "Dominion Reptillian", in 2003. A follow-up effort, "Armageddon Mon Amour", came out in 2004. The group's third CD, "The Last Ordeal", came out in August 2005 through Holland's Karmageddon Media.

SOLEMNITY Parts Ways With Drummer, Announces ReplacementGermany's SOLEMNITY has parted ways with drummer with Jürgen The Butcher. According to a posting on the group's web site, Jürgen was forced to leave SOLEMNITY "due to serious problems in his private life." The band adds, "We are proud to announce that our long-time friend and professional drummer Harry Reischmann (ex-LIGEIA, MAD MIXX) will record our new stuff together with us."
SOLEMNITY will record its new album, "Lords of the Damned", this summer for a tentative late 2007 release.
SOLEMNITY recently announced the addition of guitarists Robin Fischer (ex-HAGGARD, RED TO GREY) and Frank Pané (ex-VALLEY'S EVE, RED TO GREY, BURN) to the group's ranks.
SOLEMNITY's limited-edition 10-inch vinyl containing a classical version of BATHORY's "One Rode to Asa Bay" backed with a cover of LIZZY BORDEN's "There will be Blood Tonight" was released in January.
SOLEMNITY recorded "One Rode to Asa Bay" with the help of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra at the Ulmer Münster Cathedral in Ulm, Germany, which is said to be the highest Catholic church on earth. "This was the place to call on the ancient Gods and show Quorthon and all the Ases in Valhalla that they triumphed at last," the band said in a statement. "You will hear the original medieval church organ, string quartets, female and male choirs, timpanis, mouthdrums and things you can't imagine. All LIVE from the Ulmer Münster on 64-tracks!!"
SOLEMNITY's third album, "Shockwave of Steel", was released in 2005. An EP, entitled "Another Bloody Sabbath", followed in April 2006.

THE ARCANE ORDER: Songwriting Process 'Is Running Along Just Smoothly'THE ARCANE ORDER, the new Danish band featuring vocalist Kasper Thomsen (RAUNCHY) and guitarist Flemming C. Lund (INVOCATOR, ex-AUTUMN LEAVES), has issued the following update:
"The songwriting process for our yet-to-be-titled follow up to 'The Machinery Of Oblivion' is running along just smoothly. So far we have five new songs and more four songs are in the making. We are very happy about the way the first five songs have turned out. We are trying to vary the new stuff a bit more... we have tried to increase speed, we are varying the songs a lot more bpm-wise, and we seem to have found a new approach to writing riffs which make them come out more extreme and original. We will make some really fast songs and at the same time have a few atmospheric 'breathers' as well.
"Morten [Løwe, drums] returned from his NIGHTRAGE stint on their European tour 10 days ago, and later in June Morten will be joining French extreme metal masters SCARVE, temporarily replacing Dirk Verbeuren (SOILWORK) on their two perfomances at Graspop and Hellfest on June 23rd and 24th. After Morten's return we will start rehearsing and intensly prepare for the recordings in September at Jacob Hansen Studios."
THE ARCANE ORDER's debut album, "The Machinery of Oblivion", was released in August 2006 through Metal Blade Records.
THE ARCANE ORDER lineup:
Kasper Thomsen (RAUNCHY) - Vocals
Flemming C. Lund (INVOCATOR, ex-AUTUMN LEAVES) - Rhythm and Lead Guitar
Boris Tandrup (SUBMISSION, SLUGS, ex-AUTUMN LEAVES) - Bass
Morten Løwe Sørensen (SUBMISSION, SLUGS) - Drums
Kasper Kirkegaard (SUBMISSION) - Rhythm Guitar

SODOM To Release Re-Recorded Version Of 'In The Sign Of Evil' With Seven Bonus TracksLong-running German thrashers SODOM are in the process of re-recording the material from their classic first EP, "In the Sign of Evil", for a brand new release, tentatively due late summer via SPV Records. The new CD, which will be called "The Final Sign of Evil", will include no less than seven bonus tracks, all of which were originally written during the "In the Sign of Evil" era or earlier but were never officially released. As a special bonus, the album will feature return appearances by the group's original drummer Chris Dudek (a.k.a. Witchhunter) and guitarist Josef "Peppi" Dominic (a.k.a. Grave Violator), both of whom were featured on the original 1984 EP.
"The Final Sign of Evil" is being produced by SODOM's webmaster Toto, who stated about the upcoming CD, "The official name is 'The Final Sign of Evil', and follows the plan to make the 'In the Sign of Evil' a complete album. So the seven additional tracks are not a real bonus, because they fulfill an album, like it should [have done] back in 1984."
Regarding how he got involved on the production side, Toto said, "Peppi heard a demo I produced with a side project which was founded by me back in 2003. A friend of mine (Frank Hübner, he's with me in the project and his neighbour) gave it to him. And after all they decided not to work with Harris [Johns] or Andy [Sneap], they decided to run a little test with me. So in spring 2006 we started a two and a half week pre-production. They were happy with the sound and after four weeks I got the call: You're the one. Of course, that was a dream! In the following month I started to watch nearly every rehearsal, learned the songs and rehearsed with Chris, when Peppi was on holiday. A real big thing for an old mid-Eighties SODOM fan! But believe me: It's real hard work!"
On the subject of how the re-recordings are turning out, Toto said, "Some of the old songs will sound a little bit different, because Chris decided to change some of the drum parts. But don't mind it, because the classic one will stay as a classic, no matter what we're doing. Some will love it, other may hate it, that's the normal way life goes.
"Peppi and me are working on the guitars and it's a hard job for him. The last time he has been in a studio was for the recordings in 1984 for the 'Sign of Evil'. For Chris it was similar. Chris made his last recordings in 1994 for a project called WITCHHUNTER which never been released. But both [have] done their very best. It's obviously that both had a hard [time] during the recordings." 1

Former And Current MAYHEM Vocalists Record TogetherIn a move that will surprise many who bought into the rumours that there is no love lost between the two, current MAYHEM vocalist Attila Csihar has joined former MAYHEM vocalist Maniac to record vocals for a track on the debut album from Maniac's new band SKITLIV. Commented Maniac, "Contrary to what a lot of people either say or believe, Attila and I are actually very good friends, and always find rumors about how we are supposed to resent each other quite amusing."
The track, entitled "Amfetamin", also has SHINING's Niklas Kvarforth on guitar. Kvarforth, a close friend of both vocalists, recently joined SKITLIV as recording guitarist. About the track, Maniac said: "'Amfetamin' started life as a pretty disturbing piece of music to begin with. Once Niklas joined in it became even more so, and now that Attila has added his vocals, it's taken on yet another dimension; his voice is used almost as an instrument."
