HATEBREED Add Second GuitaristHATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta has posted the following message on the band;'s official web site:
"We've decided to become a five-piece again. Mainly because of the new album having a lot of parts that involve second guitar, but also because me and [bassist Chris] Beattie started this band as a five-piece and feel like it's an integral part of our sound and vision. We'd like to welcome Cleveland native, hardcore legend and all-around great guy Frank '3 Gun' Novinec to the band. Some of you may know him from his past bands RINGWORM and INTEGRITY, and more recently, TERROR. He's one of my oldest best friends, so he fits in perfect! We'll be making another big announcement in a day or two so stay tuned! We are in the studio now making the best album of our career. Be ready to hear the most charged, in-your-face, crushing HATEBREED album ever. It's pure adrenaline."
Drummer Matt Byrne added: "I'm psyched to be playing with this guy. I've known him for several years, playing in bands and being at shows, etc. He brings another dynamic to the fold that can only make us a tighter, heavier and stronger element in the metal/hardcore scene. All that... plus, now I have a new drinking partner."
As previously reported, HATEBREED's video for the song "To the Threshold" has been posted online at this location. The clip was shot on February 25 and "tells a story of young kid who uses our music to escape the abuse of a man his mother is seeing," says Jasta. "We shot our performance stuff at a really cool place called Fastlane Studios in Brooklyn [New York] and the majority of shots for the narrative part of the video were shot at Igor from GRAVESEND's apartment. He is the man for letting us take over his crib!"

DEF LEPPARD: \'Yeah!\' Release Date, Final Track Listing RevealedComing hot on the heels of their platinum-certified two-CD hits package "Rock of Ages", DEF LEPPARD have announced that they will release their 12th studio album, "Yeah!", on May 23, 2006. View album cover here.
On their highly anticipated new album, DEF LEPPARD have created a heartfelt and hard-rocking tribute to their musical heroes of the late '60s and '70s — THE KINKS, BADFINGER, T. REX, DAVID BOWIE, SWEET, ROXY MUSIC, MOTT THE HOOPLE, FREE, FACES, and THIN LIZZY. Recording essential versions of the music that influenced their youth, the band have brilliantly merged the "Now" with the "Then" to create a buzz that can only be summed up in one word: Yeah!
Said vocalist Joe Elliott, "I thought it was about time we showed the world what our true roots were... British pop rock from the early-to-mid-'70s. The songs on this album are at least partly responsible for us making the kind of music that we do."
Added guitarist Phil Collen, "We didn't want to make the standard covers album and gave this a lot of deep thought as Joe has been going on about doing this sort of project for 26 years. We wanted to express ourselves through these songs and approached the recording process as if they were our own."
The final tracklisting for "Yeah!" is as follows:
01. "10538 Overture" - originally recorded by ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA in 1972
02. "20th Century Boy" - originally recorded by T.REX in 1973M
03. "Don't Believe A Word" - originally recorded by THIN LIZZY in 1976
04. "Drive-In Saturday" - originally recorded by DAVID BOWIE in 1973
05. "Hanging On The Telephone" - originally recorded by THE NERVES in 1977 and BLONDIE in 1978
06. "He's Gonna Step On You Again" - originally recorded by JOHN KONGOS in 1971
07. "Hell Raiser" - originally recorded by SWEET in 1973
08. "Little Bit Of Love" - originally recorded by FREE in 1972
09. "No Matter What" - originally recorded by BADFINGER in 1970
10. "Rock On" - originally recorded by DAVID ESSEX in 1973
11. "Stay With Me" - originally recorded by FACES in 1971
12. "Street Life" - originally recorded by ROXY MUSIC in 1973
13. "The Golden Age Of Rock & Roll" - originally recorded by MOTT THE HOOPLE in 1974

AGALLOCH Unveil Artwork And Track Listing For \'Ashes Against The Grain\'The Pacific Northwest's AGALLOCH have unveiled the track listing and artwork for their forthcoming album, "Ashes against the Grain", to be released later in the year on The End Records. The album is the follow-up to the critically–acclaimed 2002 opus "The Mantle". A new track, titled "Falling Snow", is available now on The End Records' sampler "Alternate Endings: A Diverse Sound Collective Featuring a Distinguished Ensemble", and can also be downloaded at this location.
Commented vocalist/guitarist John Haughm: "The album sounds distinctively like AGALLOCH but heavier and with elements of pure black metal, folky Scandinavian prog, and a touch of post rock. I was heavily influenced by recordings like THULE's 'Natt' album while writing 'Limbs' and 'Fire Above, Ice Below' and you can definitely hear that sort of brooding darkness in those songs. 'Not unlike the Waves' is easily the heaviest thing we've ever recorded; yet at its foundation it is a neo-folk song. There's also some up-tempo material like 'Falling Snow' and moments of total ambience as well. This is definitely not an album that can be judged by one or two songs. Everything flows together as a dynamic whole and the red thread of the lyrics holds the album together. The lyrics this time unfold as an abstract and surreal folk tale. Although there is a framework of a concept, I wanted to create more of a dreamlike feeling with words than to merely 'tell a story.' My source of inspiration for the lyrics came from the surreal films of Alejandro Jodorowsky, Andrei Tarkovsky, and Sergei Parajanov as well as Northern Folklore and myths, Siberian Vodka, and the crumbling world around us all."
"Ashes against the Grain" will be released in standard jewel case and digipack formats. The digipack will contain different artwork, courtesy of Tolonen from NEST. There is also a plan for a vinyl edition to be released a couple months after the CD. A studio gallery is available here.
"Ashes against the Grain" (view artwork at this location) track listing:
01. Limbs
02. Falling Snow
03. This White Mountain on Which You Will Die
04. Fire Above, Ice Below
05. Not unlike the Waves
06. Our Fortress Is Burning... I
07. Our Fortress Is Burning... II - Bloodbirds
08. Our Fortress Is Burning... III - The Grain

DEATH IN JUNE - Live in New York City DVDThis beautiful and unique documentary piece, recorded at the Walker Stage in New York City on November 10, 2002, is a career-spanning collection of 30 tracks, each receiving a definitive live performance in Death in June's more recent stripped-down acoustic arrangements.
Evolving from the seminal political-punk band Crisis in the early 80s, Death in June has been the vehicle for Douglas P. to create a unique fusion of electronics, martial drumming, and esoteric lyrics and visual symbolism. His work has spawned a new musical genre of its own, which some have called “neo-folk.” Along the way, he has collaborated with most of the influential artists in the industrial, neo-folk and experimental/noise scenes, including Boyd Rice, Rose McDowall, John Balance and Michael Cashmore.
While this disc will help the uninitiated to catch-up with one of the most important musical voices performing today, fans will appreciate that this DVD memorializes a concert that was nearly 21 years to the day that the band made its live debut, opening for The Birthday Party in London. The intimate setting allows Douglas P. to interact directly with the audience, taking spontaneous requests from fans and providing charming background stories for each song: which one was written while sleeping on David Tibet’s library floor, or which one actually knocked the Rolling Stones off the British charts.
88 minutes long. Available in NTSC and PAL formats.

POISONBLACK To Release New Album In The FallThe current lineup of POISONBLACK — Ville Laihiala (vocals, guitar, formerly of SENTENCED), Janne Markus (guitar), Marco Sneck (keyboards), Antti Remes (bass) and Tarmo Kanerva (drums) — are continuing to write material for their sophomore album, which they hope to begin recording this spring for a tentative late summer/early fall release via Century Media Records.
Commented Kanerva: "We haven't entered the studio yet 'cos we've been working on some killer songs that we definitely want to be included on the album. We'll start the recordings in April and right after we're done, the album will be mixed at the Antfarm studios in Denmark. The release date is still not confirmed, but most likely the album will be out in August/September (and this time we're talkin' about THIS year!)."
Laihiala had previously stated about the new album's musical direction: "The new one has the same spirit and theme that was on [the debut album, 'Escapextacy'], but presented with a lot more dirtier and rougher sounds without forgetting the melodies," he said. "But if you are waiting for a soft goth-rock album you'll be surprised."
POISONBLACK released their debut album, "Escapextacy", in 2003 via Century Media. CHARON frontman Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto sang on the CD, but his touring and recording commitments with his main band eventually forced him to quit POISONBLACK.

In a recent interview with MTV.com, GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna had the following to say about the follow-up to 2003's "Faceless": "It's a killer record, and I'm really curious to see what the public's going to think of it. It's still GODSMACK — I don't think it's lost the integrity of what GODSMACK has built our career off. The toughness of the sound is still there. But we've expanded a little bit more. After 'Faceless', we started to spread our wings a bit and reintroduce guitar solos and stuff like that. The acoustic record [2004's 'The Other Side'] was a departure and it was very well received. It opened up a new audience for us — a lot more adults were coming to the shows, bringing their kids and having a glass of wine. That gave us a permission slip to take it to the next level."

APOCALYPTICA Sign With 20-20 ENTERTAINMENTLars Brandle of Monsters and Critics is reporting that Finnish "cello rock" group APOCALYPTICA has signed a worldwide, multi-album recording deal with 20-20 Entertainment, Martin Dodd's New York-based joint venture with Sony BMG International.
According to a statement issued Monday (March 20) from Sony BMG, the band is to enter the studio later in the year to record their sixth album, which will feature new material with unidentified collaborations.
"We are immensely proud to sign APOCALYTICA," comments Maarten Steinkamp, president, Sony BMG Continental Europe and chairman/CEO of the company's German operations. "APOCALYPTICA are unique and we look forward to working with them and developing their success yet further."
In the statement, Steinkamp describes the decision to sign the act as "another example that shows how highly committed we are to working and breaking repertoire from all across Europe."
Since the release of their debut 1996 album "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos" on Finnish indie label Zen Garden, the band has sold roughly 2.5 million albums, Sony BMG says. Until recently, the act was signed to Universal Music Germany. Their most recent album, "Apocalyptica" (Vertigo/Universal), its first set of original material, was released in Europe in early 2005.

DIO: Guitarist CRAIG GOLDY Back In The FoldAccording to a posting on DIO's official web site, guitarist Craig Goldy "has recovered his illness and is back in the fold," writing and rehearsing for the band's new album and tour.
Craig was previously said to have hurt his arm last fall while touring with DIO in Russia. Goldy initially tried to continue playing the shows on painkillers, but was eventually forced to leave the trek. One-time DIO guitarist Doug Aldrich stepped in and completed the tour, but has since returned to WHITESNAKE.
Aldrich's sole studio recording with DIO came in the shape of 2002's "Killing the Dragon", after which he toured with the group before leaving to join WHITESNAKE.
As previously reported, Eagle Rock Entertainment has set an April 18 North American release date for DIO's "Holy Diver Live" CD (one day earlier internationally). Captured live in 2005 in front of a sold-out London crowd, "Holy Diver Live" features the classic "Holy Diver" album in its entirety, from start to finish, recorded live for the very first time. It also includes, among others, "Heaven & Hell", "Sign of the Southern Cross" and "Mob Rules" from vocalist Ronnie James Dio's BLACK SABBATH days, "Tarot Woman", "Man on the Silver Mountain" and "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" from the RAINBOW era and "We Rock" from his solo career.
DIO's follow-up to 2004's "Master of the Moon" is expected before the end of the year.

ROSE TATTOO Guitarist PETE WELLS Loses Battle With CancerROSE TATTOO guitarist Pete Wells passed away today after a long battle with prostate cancer. The 58-year-old guitarist, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2002, had been undergoing treatment, which had caused him to stand aside from touring with ROSE TATTOO.
A posting on the ROSE TATTOO official web site reads: "We have to announce with much sadness that Pete Wells passed away today. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. The good news is that Pete's music will live on for the inspiration of generations to come. R.I.P., Pete Wells, a great musician, a rock 'n' roll legend, and most importantly a great friend."
In an August 2005 interview with Australia's "60 Minutes", Wells said that a visit to his doctor three years earlier revealed he had prostate cancer that was so widespread, not even surgery could help.
"That's the point about the bloody thing is that if I got it early — a year or six months earlier or something — it would have saved an awful lot of inconvenience, I can tell you — pain and misery and the rest of it, you know," he said. "So the trick is to get it early. I mean, they can fix this damned thing."

Producer: New IRON MAIDEN Songs Are \'Very Progressive With Catchy Choruses\'The first of the IRON MAIDEN studio updates from producer Kevin Shirley, as well as some new studio photos, has been posted at this location. An excerpt from the report follows:
"After our first week of knuckling down and beginning to cut basic tracks, we had a very interesting second week. We've cut 10 long songs for the new album, as well as four songs for B sides, which show quite an interesting side to the band. Don't worry, there's nothing like the 'interesting-or-maybe-not' B sides which were all that were left over for the Dance of Death singles. These are great cover versions with a terrific and humourous spirit!
"Anyhoo, the spirit in the band is as high as I've ever seen. Wing Commander Biggles (as I call Bruce [Dickinson]) is running around like a chicken with its head cut off, singing every take live, like it was his last — 'Arry, or Steve [Harris] is sounding better than I've ever heard since I began producing the band, galloping along very strongly — and the material is definitely the 'groovingest' in a decade. The songs are very progressive, with catchy choruses and I have to confess to being VERY optimistic about the material."
IRON MAIDEN recently confirmed a full European leg of their world tour for this coming winter 2006. The trek will start in Scandinavia on November 9 and will include new album material which will be released prior to the tour. They are currently considering album artwork and the production for the tour, which of course will be in true MAIDEN tradition with spectacular stage production and massive sound and lights ... and, of course, Eddie!! 1
