t was during the "all-star jam" at ProgPower USA festival in 2007 when Jansen and Lofstad spontaneously joined forces on stage for some cover songs and noticed a certain creative magic between them. Although the two musicians had never met before, they soon discovered their mutual love for stripped-down hard rock and decided to write some songs together. In 2008, still barely knowing each other, they composed an entire album's worth of material in next to no time — but due to their tight schedules with their main bands, their new project named NORTHWARD never found its way to the spotlight, until today!

In 2017, the year of NIGHTWISH's break, Floor took the opportunity to contact her old friend Jørn Viggo again to see if he was still interested in resurrecting NORTHWARD — and of course he was!

"Jørn Viggo was positive about the project and we started to make the overall plans, meeting again in March of 2017 in Sweden to go through all the material together to see if we still felt happy with what we had created", recalls Floor.

Stepping free from boundaries, NORTHWARD's sound is strong, euphoric and straight in the tradition of SKUNK ANANSIE, FOO FIGHTERS and ALTER BRIDGE but also bands such as DEEP PURPLE and LED ZEPPELIN.

With the help of producer Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT), the two forged a raw diamond composed of heavy riffs and Floor's incomparable voice, free from influence of the musicians' main bands. And although the songs had originally been written in 2008, they just felt as fresh and alive upon a second hearing as they had on the very first day of their creation.

"The music is melodic, but also in-your-face and kick-ass rock," says Floor. "Cool riffs, good melodies and tasteful arrangements. We would simply like to call it 'good music.' We wanted to explore a basic rock sound, with drums, bass, guitar and vocals. Not the heavy layers of keyboards, choirs etc.".

Alongside Jansen and Lofstad, Morty Black (TNT) handled bass duties, while drums were recorded by Django Nilsen and Stian Kristoffersen (PAGAN'S MIND). You will also hear a guest appearance by Floor's sister Irene Jansen, singing a duet on the song "Drifting Islands". And finally, Ronny Tegner from PAGAN'S MIND played the piano on one song.

This year NORTHWARD is ready to break free. Jansen states: "We are happy and excited to be able to release this rock album under Nuclear Blast's name. They accepted the challenge of bringing this non-metal album into the world by believing in us as musicians, and also for the pure love for music that sounds good to them. We have both put our heart and soul into this album. We are very proud of it and we can't wait to show it to you all!"

The official lyric video for the song "Flasche Zu Flasche" from ONKEL TOM — the solo project of Thomas "Angelripper" Such, bassist/vocalist of veteran German thrashers SODOM — can be seen below. The track is taken from ONKEL TOM's forthcoming album, "Bier Ernst", which will be released on September 28 via SPV/Steamhammer. The effort will consist of 21 tracks on two CDs, titled — in accordance with their lyrical content — "Bier" and "Ernst," respectively.

The band says: "Check out another appetizer from the upcoming ONKEL TOM release 'Bier Ernst'. This track is taken from the 'Bier' CD. The song 'Flasche Zu Flasche' draws influences from Russian folklore and offers a catchy chorus to sing along to. Special thanks go to Ferdy Doernberg for playing mandolin and accordion. As hinted on "Zwischen Emscher & Lippe", ONKEL TOM presents itself on "Bier Ernst" more diverse and autonomous than ever before. Along with rock versions of the popular drinking and party ditties that ONKEL TOM and his band are renowned for, Tom and his four comrades-in-arms — drummer Cornelius Rambadt, guitarists Marcel Mönnig and Klaus Nicodem, and bassist Marc Beste — have recorded a dozen original numbers.

Tom reveals what his fans can look forward to: "The title track of our recent EP and eight additional numbers on the 'Ernst' CD present the band from a slightly different perspective. They're songs full of passion for music, but, of course, also full of anger about people's indifference that's bound to destroy the world. But don't worry: the twelve songs on the 'Bier' CD celebrate life, having a good time and sophisticated drinking. Canadian progressive sci-fi metal innovators VOIVOD have released the official music video for "Iconspiracy", the third single from their forthcoming studio album, "The Wake". The clip was created by Costin Chioreanu of Twilight 13 Media and can be seen below.

VOIVOD singer Denis "Snake" Bélanger commented: "What I really like about VOIVOD fans is that they are all able to make their own interpretation of the lyrics or the story of our songs. This video is such a good portrait of 'Iconspiracy' and the artist pinpoints awesome visuals in regards to the meaning and representation of the story itself. Chioreanu added: "The most difficult task of an illustrator is to work for his all-time favourite bands. Away told Sonic Perspectives about "The Wake": "This is one of the most intricate albums we've done, for sure. The songs are pretty long and complicated and lots of prog rock moments, a bit of psychedelia, of course, our punk/thrash metal signature is still there. So, it's vintage VOIVOD with a new twist with Rocky [Dominique Laroche, bass] and Chewy [Daniel Mongrain, guitar], there's sort of a futuristic touch to the band nowadays."

Asked whether "The Wake" is a collaborative VOIVOD album, Away said: "With VOIVOD, Chewy is the main writer. We do bring a lot of ideas, but it was basically the same when Piggy was in the band. He was the main writer. Sometimes, material will be pulled from improvisations we do at the rehearsal room where we record everything. So, Chewy had to rearrange the best parts into songs, but quite often, he'll come with riffs and songs mostly written and once in a while, I come up with a beat. Rocky brought a lot of riffs as well. It's collaborative at first, but Chewy is the guy to arrange everything."

Southern Florida's Livekill recently announced the release of their upcoming EP, entitled Turned To Grey, out September 28thvia SWOL Records. Livekill performs an intense, high-energy blend of alternative metal and hardcore styles with deep lyrical messages about the fragility of life itself. Turned to Grey is available for pre-order now via Amazon, iTunes, and Google Play. The EP will also be available to stream via Apple Music and Spotify upon release.

Today, following up on the release of their first single and title track, "Turned To Grey" (which in under a month has garnered over 120,000 streams/views via Facebook alone), and their Alex Morgan-directed (Whitechapel, Gojira, Bad Wolves) music video for the track "In This Moment", Livekill revealed a brand new lyric video for the aggressive track "Demons".

Vocalist Carlos Guerreros says, "When I wrote the lyrics for 'Demons', I wanted to write about the demons I fight within myself. The tragedies I have been through becomes a demon in my mind and when I sing this song, it helps me confront those feelings."

Featuring top-tier production and a world-class pummeling from seasoned drummer Kevin Talley (Daath, Chimaira, Suffocation) on the EP itself, Livekill also features Carlos Guerreros on vocals, Sean Young on lead guitar, John Snell on rhythm guitar, Anthony Laurella on live drums (and in the "In This Moment" video), and Gil Giberga on bass.

For Turned to Grey,the band brought on Alastair Sims of MOTTO Sound (Rush, Three Days Grace) to mix and master the EP, which took place at Villa Studios in Canada. Further building upon the intensity, passion and professionalism of Turned to Grey, Livekill sought the creative talents of artist Eliran Kantor, recognized for his work on album covers for Testament, Soulfly, and Sodom. Livekill and Eliran worked over a period of five months to complete the vision of guitarist John Snell to capture the concept of how fleeting life is. The art was inspired by the imagery, stories and grief of people who lost their lives in a flash of light - so quickly that they were "Turned To Grey" while leaving their last moment's impression.

The main inspiration behind the art and EP concept is the lives lost in Hiroshima and more specifically, the story of Shinichi Tetsutani, a three year old boy who lost his life in the atomic bomb strike there. His father buried Shinichi and his tricycle in the backyard, and 40 years later in 1985, dug up his son along with the tricycle, had him properly buried, and donated the tricycle to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. Basing some concepts of the EP on this story was not intended to highlight war itself, but rather that any one of us, in a moment so quick, can be nothing more than an imprint left behind.

Legendary California-based singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and founding member of Kyuss, Brant Bjork, will release his new album, Mankind Woman, on September 14th via Heavy Psych Sounds Records. The LP, Bjork's thirteenth solo effort, was engineered by Yosef Sanborn and tracked at Twentynine Palms, CA's Zainaland, a creative Villa owned by Brant's wife, Zaina. With Mankind Woman, Brant Bjork once again delivers a record that reminds the listener that it is often the ingredients of jazz, blues, and funk that makes rock music feel so good. 

Although this is indeed a Brant Bjork record it is the first record Brant so closely collaborate with a producer and co-writer; his Low Desert Punk Band guitarist and friend, Bubba Dupree. Brant and Bubba wrote and performed the music along with guest appearances by bass player Armand Secco Sabal, Nick Oliveri and vocalist Sean Wheeler who has been a touring member of the Low Desert Punk Band. The recording took place in March of 2018 at Zainaland, a creative villa owned by Brant Bjork's wife, Zaina Alwan, in the California desert town of 29 Palms. The record was recorded and engineered by Yosef Sanborn who also owns and operates Massive FX pedals in Los Angeles. Multiple pedals designed by Yosef were used by Brant and Bubba for this record. Additional tracks were recorded by Bubba Dupree at Brant Bjork's home studio in Venice beach California.

Brant and Bubba describe the sound of Mankind Woman as modern classic. It is evidently clear that both Bjork and Dupree specialize in the craft of the sound and feel of the music spawned in the 60's and 70's. This record is inspired by this great era, however the intention was not to try to recapture or mimic in retro terms these influences but to strive for a contemporary quality. Brant Bjork might have gone deeper in the lyrics than on any record before. Focusing on personal sensitivities, elite hypocrisies, racism, sexism and the daily struggle to find peace, love and understanding in today's American society. Once again, Brant Bjork created a record that reminds the listener that it is the ingredients of the jazz, blues and funk, that makes rock music taste so good. A must-have for all collectors, genre-fans and beyond!

Thrash masters Perpetual Warfare from Bogotá- Colombia have joined forces with Extreme Management Group to thrash the proverbial faces off the Earth and beyond.  Perpetual Warfare was born in 2006 in Bogotá- Colombia as a four-piece metal band influenced by the idea that War is our favorite self-destruction pattern as humanity. Influenced by thrash metal sounds such as Testament, Exodus, Kreator, Slayer, and more, the two very young metal heads, Camilo (Vocals, Guitar) and Wilson (Bass) Muñoz felt the need to embody this primal aggression through their music; thus, creating Perpetual Warfare.  Soon after its inception, Steven Layton (Lead Guitar) and Esteban Díaz (Drums) would join to give the band some speed, groove, melody and more aggressive, attitude, creativity and power.  Upon signing with Extreme Management group, the band said, "There are no words to describe how glad we feel joining this fantastic family, and we’ll keep on spreading the Warfare with them all around the globe!"

Perpetual Warfare is one of the most relevant bands in the Thrash metal scene in the southern hemisphere. In addition to completing a sold out 35 dates tour throughout the whole Spanish-speaking continent, the band has also shared stage with acts such as Slayer, Sepultura, Suicidal Tendencies, Napalm Death, Testament, Venom, Cannibal Corpse, Possessed, Unleashed, Goatwhore, Annihilator, Razor, Coroner, Havok and many more.  Mark Kloeppel of Extreme Management Group said, "These crazy thrashers have taken themselves a long way on their own merit.  It's time to take it even further!"

There are three official full-length releases in the recorded history of Perpetual Warfare: Justicia, Libertad y Decadencia (2009), The Age Of War (2013), and Earthliens (2018), plus other singles, splits compilations, EPs and other works distributed worldwide. THE SMASHING PUMPKINS recently sat down with Zane Lowe for an exclusive interview on Beats 1 on Apple Music to discuss reuniting, their new LP, touring together for the first time in 18 years, and more. Tune in to hear the conversation in full on Monday, September 17 at 10:00 a.m. PST.

Earlier this summer, the newly reformed lineup shared the first glimpse of their new music with the LP's lead single "Solara". "Solara" is available now to stream and download now via all digital services. The track's dreamlike music video was directed by Nick Koenig and expands on the theatrics of the band's catalog of iconic music videos.

Last week, THE SMASHING PUMPKINS wrapped their monumental "Shiny And Oh So Bright Tour", which sold over 300,000 tickets across North America and sold-out arenas, including The Forum, United Center, and Madison Square Garden. Produced by Live Nation, the tour was the band's first in nearly two decades to feature Corgan, Chamberlin and Iha, alongside Schroeder, bassist Jack Bates and keyboardist Katie Cole.

This fall, the band will perform in London, United Kingdom, and Bologna, Italy, before returning to Chicago, Illinois for a special 30th-anniversary series performance for WKQX's "The Nights We Stole Christmas".

Formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1988, THE SMASHING PUMPKINS released their heralded debut album, "Gish", in 1991 and found mainstream success with 1993's four-times-multi-platinum "Siamese Dream" and 1995's 10-times-platinum "Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness".

"The Saw", the new video from Finnish metallers WOLFHEART, can be seen below. The song is taken from the band's long-awaited fourth full-length studio album, "Constellation Of The Black Light", which will be released on September 28 via Napalm Records.

"The Saw" is the second part of the story about the "Constellation Of The Black Light" and it is a very dark and brutal one.

WOLFHEART leader Tuomas Saukkonen states about the video: "Wanting to beat somebody up with brass knuckles attached to a sword covered with your own teeth you just pulled without a blink of an eye just to make it hurt more... that is the definition of Finnish SISU (will power strong as the iron mined from the bedrock of north)."

December 7th is the confirmed release date for the sophomore album from Swedish melodic rock quintet State Of Salazar. Pre-order Superhero here, and watch a video for the single "If You Wait For Me" below.

Sporting a melodic rock/AOR sound strongly inspired by musical giants such as Queen, Survivor, Toto, Journey, Europe, and the Rocky Soundtracks, State Of Salazar opened quite a few eyes with the release of their debut full length, All The Way, four years ago. And while it has been a bit of a wait between albums, work on what would eventually become Superhero actually began soon after the release of the debut album.

"After the release of All The Way, I started right away on writing new songs for a second album,” says singer Marcus Nygren. "We worked together as a band arranging the songs and recording really detailed pre-production demos. On the new album, we've given the instrumental parts a lot of space to capture the feel of the instrumental music that was often found in movies from the '80s. [Bear in mind that the “Training Montage” from Rocky IV is a major influence on the band’s sound.] At the same time, we wanted to show our love for smooth and groovy Westcoast AOR as well. All in all, Superhero consists of great guitar and keyboard riffs, some epic arrangements, and strong melodies, all performed with a heavier sound than last time."

Not too far after the release of All The Way, keyboard player Stefan Mårtenson chose to leave the band. Long-time friend Kevin Hosford took his place as the band's new keyboard player. Kevin wound up contributing not only as keyboard player, but also as lead vocalist and songwriter.

"I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with the boys, with over the top arrangements, melodic songwriting and killer vocals. The only thing that worries me is that I might have to grow an extra pair of arms when we go out on tour with Superhero,” says Kevin.

"Superhero is more of a pure rock album, lots of guitars and keyboards riffin' it out, which, of course I enjoy,” concludes guitarist Johan Thuresson. "I think that all listeners will enjoy the path we've taken with our new songs, especially since we've been lucky enough to have Alessandro Del Vecchio helping out with the final touches regarding the sound.”

Influential hardcore veterans TERROR will release their seventh full-length album, "Total Retaliation", on September 28 via Pure Noise Records. The disc's second single, "Spirit Of Sacrifice", can be streamed below.

DEVIL'S HAND is an exciting new project featuring the amazing talents of two outstanding musicians: famed producer/guitarist/songwriter Mike Slamer and singer Andrew Freeman of LAST IN LINE. The project's self-titled debut album will be released on December 7 via Frontiers Music Srl.

Mike Slamer has been behind some of the most amazing melodic hard rock releases of the past two decades. The list includes, but is not limited to, STEELHOUSE LANE, SEVENTH KEY, SLAMER and Terry Brock. And let's not forget his past work in the '80s with STREETS (featuring KANSAS singer Steve Walsh) and in the '70s with CITY BOY. The quality of his songwriting and production work is unsurpassed as the records he has produced and been involved in have more than stood the test of time.

Mike says: "This new record has some great stuff. I don't want to make direct comparisons because STEELHOUSE LANE, SEVENTH KEY, my solo album, and the new one all have great singers, but different styles, qualities, and levels of collaboration."

Freeman is simply one of the most gifted singers of the current hard rock scene. With his performance on LAST IN LINE's debut album (and their forthcoming 2019 release), he made heads turn with the power of his vocals. His unbelievable set of pipes adds an undeniable fire to the DEVIL'S HAND album.

Andrew adds that his "approach on singing the songs was the same as all the recordings I've done. I try to bring the same amount of passion and conviction in everything I write and perform.

"This group of songs that Mike and I wrote are a bit more commercial, but they have the same amount of intensity and anthemic spirit as the LAST IN LINE record. Lots of big sing-along choruses and screaming guitars!

"I think the title track, 'Devil's Hand', encompasses the entire vibe of the record. It has elements of all the greatest rock 'n' roll songs I've ever heard. 'Heartbeat Away' will give you the feels. It's pensive, dramatic, and optimistic. All of the emotion that encompasses life. It's just a really well-rounded record."

GRAVE DIGGER frontman Chris Boltendahl told Metal Obsession about "The Living Dead": "I'm really happy about this album, because when we finished 'Healed By Metal' [2017], I thought [to] myself, 'Okay, I'm now three albums in a row, which is more or less classical GRAVE DIGGER stuff. But now, I want to look over the plate, and look a little bit left or right. When I talked to Axel Ritt [guitar] before we were creating the new album, I said to him, 'Hey, Axel, I need some visions.' He said, 'What? You need visions?' 'Yes. I need visions from you, so, send me all of your stuff you have in your mind, and then, we sort out what is interesting, whatnot, and meanwhile, I'll create some cool choruses, and everything.'"

Speaking about his songwriting partnership with Ritt: "I'm writing the lyrics, and normally, I'm writing all the melodies for the choruses, for the verses, and then, I tell [Ritt] the ideas. Then we start creating all the guitar around it. But, then, most of, I think, 90 percent of the guitar work is definitely from Axel, but he's following most of my advice. That is a good combination; that is something like metal twins can do."

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH has released the music video for the song "When The Seasons Change". Written by guitarist Zoltan Bathory, the clip is dedicated to those police officers and first responders around the world who selflessly put their lives on the line every day, among them a hometown hero of the band, fallen army veteran and Las Vegas police officer Charleston Hartfield, who lost his life in the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting using his own body to shield and save others from the hail of bullets.

Bathory said: "Instead of giving you a typical quote about the music video, let me give you some data to ponder… Medical malpractice is the third leading cause of death in the USA right behind heart disease and cancer. Some research says an average of 250,000 people die every year because of medical errors. In contrast, police officers make an average of 50 fatal errors annually, that's 245,950 less — and most of them are due to split-second decisions in high-risk situations. Of course, loss of life is always tragic, but we don't put all medical professionals on blast or call them names, disrespect them and demonize them. Of course not. They're doing their best and it would be just as ridiculous as the current, grossly unfair rhetoric against police as a whole."

A rare voice of support in the entertainment world, the members of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH have been longtime supporters of veteran and law enforcement entities. Celebrating its 50th anniversary as a band in 2018, NAZARETH is marking the occasion with a hard-rocking new album, "Tattooed On My Brain". Scheduled for release on October 12 via Frontiers Music Srl, the effort will be available on CD, LP, and digital formats.

"Tattooed On My Brain" is NAZARETH's 24th full-length album and the first to feature new vocalist Carl Sentance (ex-PERSIAN RISK).

NAZARETH bassist and founding member Pete Agnew says about the new album: "What I know and expect is that this record, because of our new lineup, will come under the highest scrutiny of any record in NAZARETH's history and after that, hopefully be judged as one of the best of NAZARETH's career.

While there is always going to be hints of the classic NAZARETH sound on our albums, when you consider that all the musicians have been playing classic NAZARETH songs for most of their lives, what is fresh and inspired the new songs and new approach is the fact that we have a new singer: Carl Sentance.

"You can change band members and still keep pretty much on the same road, but there is nothing that changes a band's approach so definitively as the sound, style and performance of a new frontman. It also influences the way the other guys write songs, because mostly when you write a song for the band, you have in mind whether it will suit your singer's style and how he'll sound singing it. And, of course, with Carl, we have not only a new singer but a great new songwriter as well, so the whole project was always going to be fresher than a new laid egg, given all these ingredients we had to work with. While it is difficult to sum up in few words the history and the influence on the history of rock that an act like NAZARETH has had, there is no doubt that they have left an indelible mark. The band originally formed in Dunfermline, Scotland in 1968, releasing their eponymous debut album in 1971. The band broke through to a larger audience when, after supporting DEEP PURPLE on tour, they released the Roger Glover-produced "Razamanaz" album in early 1973. A string of hit records, including "Loud 'N' Proud", "Rampant" and their biggest success, "Hair Of The Dog" (featuring the smash hits "Hair Of The Dog" and "Love Hurts") followed, cementing the band's legacy in the history of hard rock. NAZARETH continued on throughout the '80s and '90s, making new studio albums and touring the world.


In 2014, original singer Dan McCafferty had to leave the band for health reasons and with his blessing, Carl Sentance is now fronting the legendary band. Rejuvenated and as energetic as ever, NAZARETH is back with an album that firmly shows their roots, but also sees the band progressing forward and seeing the future.

Realms Of Odoric, the artwork/soundtrack project from Arkadius Antonik and illustrator Kris Verwimp, released a video for the song "Return To Ankrath", which is animated with the impressive illustrations by Kris Verwimp, giving an insight into the story of the second era.

The album includes 18 tracks with a running time of 44 minutes and tell the story of the second age of Odoric. Due to the study and completion of Arkadius at the Audiocaution Academy, the compositions are much more mature than ever before. For the first time in the history of the project, the recordings were realized with the participation of many guest musicians from all over the world.

Legendary rock vocalist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION) was recently interviewed by Shawn SixX of "The Liquid Conversations". The full conversation can be streamed below. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On his work ethic:

Glenn: "I'm just super, super busy, more so than I have been in decades, and I am loving that. I'm in great mental and physical shape, so I thought I'd just go for it. I know what not to do — this is really important for me. Obviously, getting older — and I don't hide from the fact that anybody can Google how old I am — the fact is, I've lived through it, I've done it, I've had five decades doing it now, and I've seen the weird, the wacky, the wonderful and the freaky. I've seen it all, and I really wouldn't change a thing. I rode the crest of the wave, and I've been there and done it, and I'm super, super grateful to still be doing what I'm doing."

On the key to his longevity:

Glenn: "I live in the now, not so much tomorrow. I try to live in the moment. It's just 24 hours per day for me. I shoot for midnight. I do it one day at a time with everything I do, and it works for me. I don't try to make too many plans, because God has a sense of humor. If I make plans, he'll change those plans. I just keep showing up... Who would have thought a young Glenn Hughes at 21 in DEEP PURPLE, who's now talking to you at 67, who would have thought that that would be possible doing the songs I'm doing now? It's just unfathomable when you're in your early twenties that you'd still be doing it at this age. I always think about Mick Jagger and the older guys. If he's still doing it, I've got a chance."

On maturing:

Glenn: "What I don't want to do is glamorize the sex and the drugs and the weird stuff. It sells copy — we all know what it did in the '70s — but remember, I lost a lot of my friends, people I played with. Some of my closest friends are not here. They didn't even make it. They were bright, intelligent young men and women, and they were taken from us because of the foreplay before the ritual of rock n' roll, which was sex and drugs. I'm still so grateful to have gotten through that 15-year period where I was completely out there. For me to change my lifestyle was a really beneficial thing for me. It's not attractive to see a guy anywhere near my age drinking Jack Daniel's and doing lines of coke. It's just not attractive, and it's just not good for anybody. I didn't get sober to win a prize or to have a hit record. I did because I couldn't take it anymore. I was beat down. The devil had his way with me, and I had enough of it. What I've been doing ever since is carrying the message of faith, love and hope, and living a spiritual life... I think sobriety's really saved my life. I just wanted to change my life. I would have been dead if I hadn't have done that. It's very important for me to carry that message. I'm not the man I was in the '70s. People say, 'How come you can sing better now than you could in the '70s?' It's very obvious for me — number one, I was over-served at the bar, wasn't I? It's difficult to sing when you're inebriated or if you're a little high, or in my case, quite a lot high... When we were in our twenties, we just thought, 'Hey, this is going to last forever.' Of course, a guy dies in the band, and things start changing. You're not supposed to die when you're 25, for God's sake. Did that get my attention? Well, of course it did, but did it really get my attention? Of course it didn't. I had to go out and do some more trudging, more drinking and more cavorting. I was one of the lucky ones to [realize] this is killing me. I just hope that message is clear to the youngsters today, because there's so many different ways you can get stoned these days. It's just a different entity out there."

On how the music industry has changed over the course of his career:

The Internet has completely changed the world, and what I've subtly been doing is keeping abreast of it all with my team and try to stay as relevant as humanly possible in today's age, and keep up with these whipper-snappers out there."

Hughes's ongoing "Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live" tour finds him performing various hits and deep cuts from the DEEP PURPLE catalog, including "Burn", "Stormbringer", "Sail Away" and "Smoke On The Water", among others.

The U.S. leg of "Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live" will travel around the Northeast before wrapping up in Tarrytown, New York on September 22.

Once the U.S. run wraps at the end of September, Hughes will return to Europe to continue to bring his interpretation of the legendary music of DEEP PURPLE to the fans worldwide.

During the "Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live" tour, Glenn focuses on arrangements from the live albums — not studio recordings — for the classic PURPLE songs, "giving fans even more insight as to what it was like seeing a DEEP PURPLE show during the 1970s," according to a press release for the tour.

Guitarist Michael Schenker and bassist Pete Way and have confirmed that they will not take part in UFO's 50th-anniversary celebration in 2019.

Schenker, who first joined UFO in 1973 and last played with the band in 2003, told Classic Rock that "bands like UFO and the SCORPIONS are trying to fool the audience, and I'm not a part of that world. It's becoming a trend to make a big deal about playing last shows, and those bands do it because they can't get anywhere in a normal way. For me, UFO only exists with the original five members, plus producer Ron Nevison. [Singer] Phil Mogg calls his current band UFO, but it isn't UFO."

Way, who co-founded UFO in 1969, left for the first time n 1982, returned to the band in 1988 and remained with the group through 2008, wrote on Facebook: "After the publicity which is currently surrounding Michael Schenker's announcement that he most definitely will not be joining in with UFO's advertised outing, I would like to make sure that nobody is under the illusion that I will be appearing. It is not made clear in the advertising. I will be touring with my new band — Paul Chapman [former UFO guitarist who replaced Schenker] will not be on guitar, sadly, but it was a pleasure to see him again. I wish UFO all the luck in the world and I am sure fans would like to see the original lineup but for me, I can only say RIP UFO."

Back in May, Mogg announced his plans to retire from UFO.

The singer, who turned 70 in April, released a statement confirming that he will leave the band after UFO completes a farewell 50th-anniversary tour in 2019.

"Being out on the road isn't always tremendously luxurious, and although the playing is as great as it ever was, the stuff that surrounds it becomes very tiresome," the vocalist, who has been the only constant member of UFO throughout its existence, said. "I always told myself that when I reached that stage, I would step down, and that's what I'm going to do. This is the right time for me to quit."

UFO's latest release was last year's covers collection, "The Salentino Cuts".

SCORPIONS announced in January 2010 that they would mount one more world tour and then call it a day but changed their minds due to the phenomenal response they received from their fans.

SAXON's first live album, "The Eagle Has Landed", will be reissued on October 19. The album features bonus tracks recorded live at Hammersmith Odeon in 1981-1982.

SAXON, over the decades has gone from being a pioneer of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal to one of the most successful U.K. rock acts of all time. The truth, though, is that SAXON has always transcended trends and eras. From 1979's "Saxon" album to new album "Thunderbolt", the band has enjoyed considerable success. Five Top 40 albums in the U.K., with four Top 20 singles. And they were similarly successful in other parts of the world as well. It's no wonder their influence spread across the globe, and played a crucial role in the way we look at hard rock and heavy metal today.

Originally released in May 1982, "The Eagle Has Landed" was SAXON's first live album to be recorded and also the first album to feature long-standing drummer Nigel Glockler. Taking its name from the band's huge, eagle lighting rig, it was recorded on the European leg of their "Denim And Leather" tour during 1981 and was mixed at Manor And Bray Sound Studio. It was an instant hit and reached No. 5 in the U.K. chart upon its release. This edition features bonus live tracks recorded at London's, famous Hammersmith Odeon during sold-out SAXON headline concerts from 1981 and 1982.

SAXON has just released a special tour edition of their latest album, "Thunderbolt". The special tour edition features live recordings of "Thunderbolt" and "Nosferatu (The Vampire's Waltz)" recorded in Frankfurt and Los Angeles on the 2018 "Thunderbolt" world tour. The CD format also contains a 10" x 10" poster with photos of the band while on tour.

"Thunderbolt" was released in February via Militia Guard (Silver Lining Music). The follow-up to 2015's "Battering Ram" was once again helmed by producer Andy Sneap, who has previously worked with JUDAS PRIEST, MEGADETH, ACCEPT and TESTAMENT, among others. The disc features original artwork by longtime SAXON collaborator Paul Raymond Gregory.

Nashville/Los Angeles quartet RIVAL SONS has released "Do Your Worst", the first new music to be made available from the band's forthcoming LP, expected to arrive early next year on Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb's Low Country Sound imprint via Atlantic.
Vocalist Jay Buchanan commented on how "Do Your Worst" was born: "Sometimes environment really shapes a song. Hunkered down in a threadbare shack deep in the south Tennessee woods, we (Scott and I) sweated it out and just wrote for a week straight. We were set out on an old causeway surrounded by neglected reservoirs and overgrown with shit you don't want to see and yes; infested with all manner snakes. The song is a whiskey nightmare crawling with copperheads to me."
Featuring Buchanan, guitarist Scott Holiday, bassist Dave Beste and drummer Mike Miley, RIVAL SONS are wrapping up work on their new disc, which was recorded in the historic RCA Studio A in Nashville and the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama with longtime collaborator Cobb helming the production.
Holiday is no stranger to Atlantic, having signed a deal with the label in 2000 with his first former band HUMAN LAB. That group spent two years making an album for the company, but the disc was never released.
b>Scott told Planet Rock: "It's painful to make a piece of art and not having it see the light of day. But I saw how the record business worked. And after that experience, I had to run in the other direction. With RIVAL SONS, it's thirty days writing and recording each album."
Holliday added that it was a huge honor to be signed to the longtime home of such rock legends as FOREIGNER, AC/DC, THE ROLLING STONES, LED ZEPPELIN and PHIL COLLINS. "It's kind of romantic to be at this big, legendary record label," he said. "And fuck all the rock 'n' roll bands — if you want to get really romantic, look at all the soul acts they signed, like Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin. We're talking about the bedrock, soul and blues, some of the most important recordings in the history of the world.
"But I'm a pragmatic person," he continued. "There's a lot of work to be done. We've made five records and we've had some success, but hopefully signing to Atlantic, we're going to have a little more."

The band spent much of 2016 supporting the legendary BLACK SABBATH on "The End" world tour.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the release of THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE masterpiece "Electric Ladyland", Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, are releasing the deluxe edition box set on November 9. Available as either a 3CD/1 Blu-ray set or a 6LP/1 Blu-ray set, both packages include the original double album, now newly remastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analog tapes. For the LP set, Grundman prepared an all-analog direct-to-disc vinyl transfer of the album, preserving the authenticity. Also included is "Electric Ladyland: The Early Takes", which presents demos and studio outtakes from this period in Hendrix's career, plus a new 5.1 Surround Sound mix of the entire original album by Hendrix's original engineer Eddie Kramer. This marks the first and only time this has been done with a Hendrix studio album, and gives listeners the original stereo mixes in uncompressed 24 bit/96 kz high-resolution audio.

"Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live At the Hollywood Bowl 9/14/68", part of Experience Hendrix's Dagger Records official bootleg series, is another exclusive component. The never before released recording captures the band and the mounting excitement that took place just weeks before the release of "Electric Ladyland". The Blu-ray also includes the acclaimed, feature length documentary "At Last… The Beginning: The Making Of Electric Ladyland".

Lastly, "Electric Ladyland Deluxe Edition" includes a full-color, 48-page book containing Jimi's handwritten lyrics, poem and instructions to his record label, as well as never before published photos from the recording sessions that were shot by Eddie Kramer himself.

"I had always dreamed of mixing 'Electric Ladyland' in 5.1 Surround Sound," says Eddie Kramer, who engineered every Hendrix album made during his life, and produced or co-produced nearly all of his posthumous material. "It always felt to me as the perfect vehicle for the kind of adventuresome stuff that Jimi and I were trying to do in 1968. The visceral thrill when we completed the first surround mix of 'Voodoo Child (Slight Return)' was palpable. It was an overwhelming experience — pun intended. We viewed this song as the surround test and the moment I heard it I flashed back on those moments when Jimi and I were mixing the stereo album, laughing at our attempts to find that 'elusive' sound." The Blu-ray for "Electric Ladyland Deluxe Edition" will contain these 5.1 Surround Sound mixes — a first for any studio album in the Hendrix canon.

he new cover art — a Linda (McCartney) Eastman photograph of the band and children at the statue of Alice In Wonderland in New York's Central Park — was Hendrix's own choice of imagery for the album's cover image. The shot was relegated to the inside of the U.S. version on Reprise Records, printed in black and white. The U.K. version of the album released by Track Records didn't include the photo at all, and instead featured a gatefold photo of 19 naked women, which Hendrix famously abhorred. For the first time ever, the Linda Eastman photo, in full color, will grace the cover of "Electric Ladyland", true to Jimi Hendrix's original vision.

The third album by THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE, "Electric Ladyland" was the last Hendrix studio album to have been released during the guitar icon's lifetime and reflects his meticulous involvement in every facet of its creation. In his essay, included in the full color 12" x 12" book that comes with the set, veteran Rolling Stone contributor David Fricke contends, "'Electric Ladyland' is the guitarist at a visceral, pictorial peak in his playing and his exploration of the recording studio as an instrument of composition and narrative."

Originally released on October 16, 1968, "Electric Ladyland" is the source of such legendary Hendrix tracks as "All Along The Watchtower", "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)", "Crosstown Traffic" and "Burning Of The Midnight Lamp". It is commonly acknowledged by Hendrix cognoscenti as the most fully realized, cohesive project of his entire career. The only Hendrix album to have hit No. 1 on the Billboard chart, it is, indisputably, the crowning achievement of THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE and underscored Hendrix's abilities as singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer. It remains his most popular album outside the U.S., outpacing the guitarist's groundbreaking debut LP, "Are You Experienced".

Notable for being the first album produced and directed by Jimi Hendrix, "Electric Ladyland" was largely recorded after Hendrix split from Chas Chandler — the former member of THE ANIMALS who found Hendrix in New York and brought him to the U.K., co-managing his career and producing the first two EXPERIENCE albums. There is also the introduction of outside players, namely Steve Winwood, Chris Wood and Dave Mason of TRAFFIC, Jack Casady of JEFFERSON AIRPLANE (bass on "Voodoo Chile"), and Hendrix's own future BAND OF GYPSYS bandmate Buddy Miles (drums on "Rainy Day, Dream Away" and "Still Raining, Still Dreaming"). As a result of the growing tension between Hendrix and EXPERIENCE bassist Noel Redding (who parted ways the following year), Hendrix took it upon himself to play bass on most of the songs, including the cover of Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower", the only JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE single to reach Billboard's top 20. Widely considered one of the greatest interpretations ever recorded, Dylan professed in 1995 that Hendrix "found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using." By 1974, Dylan demonstrated the ultimate show of respect when he began using Hendrix's template to perform his own song.

"Electric Ladyland: The Early Takes" consists of demos for song ideas Hendrix recorded himself on a Teac reel-to-reel tape machine in early 1968, as well as early sessions at Sound Center and the Record Plant in New York. Previously unreleased versions of "Angel Caterina" and "Little Miss Strange" feature guest appearances from Buddy Miles and Stephen Stills. "Long Hot Summer" features Hendrix and Mitch Mitchell with Al Kooper on piano, and "At Last . . . The Beginning" is an early version of what would become "…And The Gods Made Love". Jimi's demos, recorded in March 1968 while he resided at the Drake Hotel in Manhattan included formative renditions of such classic songs as "Voodoo Chile" and "Gypsy Eyes", as well as fascinating sketches of songs such as "Angel" and "My Friend" which, despite their quality, did not make the album.

"Electric Ladyland Deluxe Edition" includes the previously unreleased live album "Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live At the Hollywood Bowl 9/14/68", part of Experience Hendrix's official "bootleg" series. This live album documents their triumphant Los Angeles concert held a few weeks before "Electric Ladyland" was released. The recently discovered two-track soundboard recording captures the energy that had the audience in such a frenzy that many concert goers jumped into the reflecting pool that separated the bandstand from the seats. "Live At the Hollywood Bowl 9/14/68" includes selections from all three EXPERIENCE albums, as well as a cover of CREAM's smash hit "Sunshine Of Your Love". The accompanying book is filled with unpublished photos that follow the band at the Bowl, from afternoon rehearsal, to backstage to the performance itself.

"At Last… The Beginning: The Making Of Electric Ladyland" documents the creation of the legendary double album. Some of Jimi's closest associates are seen on screen discussing their first-hand recollections of Hendrix and the project including JHE bassist Noel Redding, drummer Mitch Mitchell, manager Chas Chandler; Buddy Miles, Jack Casady, Steve Winwood, Dave Mason and others who participated in the "Electric Ladyland" sessions. One of the highlights of the program includes demonstrations by Eddie Kramer, who discusses the techniques Hendrix, Mitchell and Redding employed in recording the album, playing some of the original multitrack tapes to illustrate the process. "At Last… The Beginning: The Making Of Electric Ladyland" is the definitive telling of the story.

The accompanying 48-page full-color book contains essays by music critic David Fricke and producer John McDermott. It is filled with detailed recording information and unpublished photos, including many taken by Eddie Kramer during the recording of the album. Fans get a rare look at Hendrix's handwritten lyrics and instructions to his label Warner Bros. for the album, drawn from his personal notebook, as well as original Warner Bros. internal memos and alternate artwork for the album.

KORN played the first of three very special shows in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the band's "Follow The Leader" album last night (Wednesday, September 12) at The Masonic in San Francisco, California. Fan-filmed video footage can be seen below.
While it was initially assumed that the band would perform the LP from front to back at those shows, only "most" of the record was played. Back in June, guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer explained to KLOS 95.5 DJ Full Metal Jackie: "There's some songs that we did collaborations — we [had guest appearances by] Tre [Trevant Hardson] from THE PHARCYDE, which is a hip-hop group; Ice Cube — everybody knows Ice Cube; and Fred [Durst] from LIMP BIZKIT. So those are the songs that are, like, 'Okay, well, we can't really recreate that.' But we're gonna play a handful of the songs that people haven't heard and maybe we haven't played in 20 years."

he other two shows are scheduled to take place on September 13 at the Palladium in Los Angeles, and September 15 at the Pearl Theater in Las Vegas. These will be KORN's only North American concerts of the year.
The San Francisco concert marked KORN singer Jonathan Davis's first public appearance since the passing of his estranged wife. Deven Davis died on August 17 at the age of 39. The former girl-on-girl porn star's cause of death has not yet been revealed. However, she reportedly struggled with sobriety and substance abuse throughout her life.
Munky told Full Metal Jackie that he looks back fondly on the "Follow The Leader" period of KORN's career. "Because we were really young, and it really was the first bit of money that we started to see from so many years of hard work," he said. "And we just really had a lot of fun. And musically, we kind of experimented with collaborations. We were in a real studio, in North Hollywood, in the middle of town. Because we recorded our first two records with [producer] Ross Robinson up at Indigo Ranch, and that was so remote and removed from anything, and that's how he liked it. But once we had the freedom and the money and the record label support to get into a real studio and have, like, a real beer budget…
"I think, honestly, the making of that album was something like 30 thousand dollars in alcohol by the time it was all done," he continued. "It was fun; that showed you how much fun we had. But, really, it was trying to figure out, 'Okay, we kind of did these two angst records. Let's kind of move into more of a song-based, lightened-mood.' Like, 'Let's have fun a little bit.' That's when we really started to kind of find who we were and make changes as far as song structures and listening to each other play. Like, 'Man, you're really good. I didn't realize it before.'"
Munky went on to say that "Follow The Leader" represented "a really special moment" in KORN's career. "That's when MTV was hitting, and everybody was watching all these boy bands," he said. "And then KORN topping the charts of all the 'TRL' stuff. I feel like it was a turning point. I feel like if you didn't like the whole boy-band thing and the pop thing, you had us over here."
According to Munky, "Follow The Leader"'s influence has reverberated beyond the hard rock world. "It's crazy" he said. "All these young hip-hop kids now are coming up to me, saying, 'Man, I love your band. Because of your band, I'm into this, this and this.' And they're all these young rapper kids with tattoos all over their faces — just super hardcore. So there's a whole new movement. So it's kind of nice for them to step up and give us an homage, I guess."
"Follow The Leader" was a massive commercial breakthrough for KORN, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart, selling five million copies in the U.S. and yielding two hits singles in "Got The Life" and "Freak On A Leash".
