"Forces Of The Northern Night", the highly anticipated double DVD from Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR, will be released on April 28 via Nuclear Blast. The set will contain two of the band's live performances: their legendary show in Oslo, presenting DIMMU BORGIR on stage with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and a bombastic choir, as well as their entire performance at Wacken Open Air festival in 2012 in Wacken, Germany with almost a hundred musicians on stage. Both concerts present a spectacular sound scenario of raging black metal in front of an epic orchestral landscape plus the band's unique visuals.

DIMMU BORGIR's remarkable and atramentous stage show has long seemed like a natural evolution for fans, but much time, arrangements and commitment were necessary to put this gigantic production into reality and fill the stage with 90 minutes of mindblowing aural delight per night. The shows guide the fans through classics from the band's discography — from the majestic finisher "Mourning Palace" — which can be seen below (footage from the Wacken show) — to the stomping manifesto "Puritania" and the haunting "Gateways". "For us, this is the pinnacle of our career so far," says DIMMU BORGIR frontman Stian Thoresen (a.k.a. Shagrath). "As a band, we've always used a lot of symphonic elements in our music. But we haven't been able to use a real orchestra. We've had to use samples, synthesizers and so on, so this was a huge, awesome experience for us." In addition to the two concerts, "Forces Of The Northern Night" will include a bonus documentary feature.

DIMMU BORGIR's May 28, 2011 concert at the Oslo Spektrum in Norway, which is included on "Forces Of The Northern Night", featured a special setlist with 53 members of KORK (the Norwegian Radio Orchestra) and 30 members of the Schola Cantorum choir, who were musical guests on the band's ninth studio album, 2010's "Abrahadabra". The show was professionally filmed and was broadcast as part of a one-hour documentary in June 2011 on NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation), the Norwegian government-owned radio and television public broadcasting company and the largest media organization in Norway.

In an interview with Scuzz TV, DIMMU BORGIR guitarist Sven Atle Kopperud (a.k.a. Silenoz) stated about the experience of performing with an orchestra: "It was, of course, really special, especially since it was in Oslo, and a lot of people traveled in for the show from all over the world. And everything went great on stage for once. When you have a hundred people on stage, the percentage of something going wrong is definitely there, but it was really, really good."

He added: "You think your band is professional, then you play with an orchestra, and then you know, 'Oh, we're not so professional after all.'"

DIMMU BORGIR last year extended its partnership with Nuclear Blast.

The band's tenth album is tentatively due before the end of 2017.

French black metal cultists, Merrimack, are streaming the new track “The Falsified Son”, to be featured on their new album, Omegaphilia, out on June 9th via Season Of Mist. Listen to the new song below.

Merrimack were founded by guitarist Perversifier in 1994 with a clear vision to keep the black metal flame burning as an act of aesthetic terrorism – adamantly based in the underground as opposed to any attempts to co-opt or commercialize.

With a number of demo recordings under their belt in the mid '90s, the French gained recognition and respect in the scene for being true to their words. Following the release of three well-received full-lengths, the Parisians remained dedicated to their roots firmly lodged in dirty, grime, and fanatical passion. The band's daft combination of harsh soundscapes with epic songwriting appealed to critics and fans alike, allowing the band to embark on their celebrated first US-tour with Marduk and Nachtmystium in 2009.

Kirk Hammett says that it's "highly unlikely" that Donald Trump will be a two-term president.

Asked by the Brazilian radio station 89FM A Rádio Rock at last month's Lollapalooza Brasil festival if he thinks the United States Of America will change now that Donald Trump is in the White House, the METALLICA guitarist said (see video below): "Well, you know, it's gonna be a very interesting four years. But everyone has to remember — it's just gonna be four years. It's highly unlikely that it's gonna be eight. I'm not a prophet, but that's what I think. But, you know, I think we're gonna be in for a pretty interesting ride, and we'll see what happens at the end."

Both Hammett and METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich have voiced their dislike of Trump to different degrees, unusual for a band whose members have never spoken out much on politics.

After Trump — one of the most polarizing figures to assume the office — was officially sworn in as the 45th president of the United States on January 20, a number of celebrities took to social media to share their thoughts, including Hammett, who urged fans to "defend democracy" and "reject American carnage."

In a series of tweets, the METALLICA guitarist was critical of Trump's inaugural address, which painted a bleak picture of life for some in the United States. "To say America is not great, that it lacks greatness, sets up a scenario for manipulation and control from others —pay attention, people!" Hammett wrote.

Ulrich told Mexico's Las Estrellas television network about Trump's plan to build "a great wall" along the U.S.-Mexico border: "I don't think the world needs any walls. I think we need to bring people together. METALLICA travels all over the world, and through music we try to bring people together. So whether we're in Mexico or whether we're in Asia or whether we're in Europe or whatever, we encourage as many different people from as many different backgrounds to come together and share music and life and culture and all these experiences."

Asked if he thinks the United States under Donald Trump is a "new America," METALLICA frontman James Hetfield told Claudio Vergara of the Chilean newspaper La Tercera: "It's always a new America when someone comes in. But it's about balance. You have far left, far right, and it goes back and forth to keep it balanced. In the middle is the best, we know that. In the middle… accepting everything, understanding everything. But it's not like that. People aren't like that. Humans aren't like that."

Nita Strauss, the Los Angeles-based guitar shredder for the ALICE COOPER band, has launched a brand new all-female group called WE START WARS.

Says Strauss: "I've been wanting to be in this exact band since I started playing guitar, and after over a year of putting this together and auditioning musicians, finally ended up with an amazingly talented, hard-working and driven group of girls. I truly couldn't be more proud of how these songs are coming out."

WE START WARS will make its live debut on May 25 at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California.

Strauss told Ultimate Classic Rock about her new project: "I started writing music, and it turned into something that sounded like it needed to be a band. It didn't sound like something that was indulgent enough to just be like, 'This is the Nita show.' They sounded like band songs. I'm a band person. I might come across like kind of a show-off onstage and stuff, but I like collaborating with people. So I threw together a great group of girls. I thought it needed a great female lineup, and I think I've almost got it the way that I want it now."

Strauss recently released a brand new solo single titled "Pandemonium". Written, recorded and produced by Nita, the song features the axewoman on all guitar and bass, alongside her boyfriend and manager Josh Villalta on drums and Katt Scarlett on keyboards.

Strauss is a longtime Ibanez signature series endorsee who made her name with THE IRON MAIDENS, FEMME FATALE and LA Kiss.

William Tolley, founding drummer of Long Island, New York death metallers INTERNAL BLEEDING and a veteran firefighter, died this afternoon (Thursday, April 20) after falling five stories to his death from the roof of an apartment building in the Ridgewood section of Queens, New York.

Tolley, who was responding to an apartment fire three floors below, was pronounced dead a short time later at the Wyckoff Heights Medical Center.

According to CBS2, the fire had been brought under control when Tolley misstepped while moving between the roof and the bucket at the end of a five-story ladder.

The 42-year-old is survived by his wife Marie and their 8-year-old daughter Bella.

New York mayor Bill De Blasio paid tribute to Tolley on Facebook, calling the senior firefighter "a hero" who was "dedicated to protecting others." The mayor added: "He gave his life to this work... He made the ultimate sacrifice."

INTERNAL BLEEDING reposted De Blasio's tribute and added the following statement: "Our drummer, the heartbeat of the band, William Tolley died today. There are ZERO WORDS to describe the loss. He was a good, decent and honorable man who loved his friends, his family and the people he served. There will never be another like him. There are no words to describe the utter sadness and despair we feel right now. We love you Bill."

Formed in 1991, INTERNAL BLEEDING released its first album, "Voracious Contempt", four years later.

Tolley started playing drums at the age of 8, and continued to play even after joining the FDNY.

"When I am not drumming, I work at the Fire Department," he said in a 2013 interview, according to the Daily News. "When I am not working, I also watch my 4-year-old. I am a family guy. I love spending time with my wife and daughter, doing all sorts of fun stuff together."

"Many of you have been asking who will be playing drums for us on all our upcoming summer shows," comments Metal Church. "And the answer is former W.A.S.P. drummer Stet Howland."

Of course, this new announcement in personnel was necessitated after drummer Jeff Plate quit Metal Church last month.

Stet Howland had the following to say:  "Hello friends. I have an announcement that I am proud to make. The short story is that I am the new drummer of one of my favorite metal bands of all time Metal Church.

I was contacted by my good friend , Metal Church bass player Steve Unger recently after their drummer Jeff Plate stepped down after 12 years of dedicated service. The band has a bunch of summer festival dates as well as other touring for the year.

When Steve called, the first thing he said was 'How busy are you right now?'. I laughed and asked him to get to the point, cuz anyone who knows me knows that I'm constantly busy.
Steve confided that Jeff had given his notice and that they needed a drummer immediately. He said that their new CD is going through the roof and that they have a ton of summer dates. I was very excited to say the least.

I became a hard-core fan of Metal Church when they toured with W.A.S.P. on our 2005 Metal Blast tour. Our then guitar player Darrell Roberts and I would stand in the wings watching every show, they kicked ass every single night! Their drummer at the time was Kirk Arrington, a great drummer and guy. We became friends immediately. And as it happens I'm also old friends with Jeff Plate, Metal Church's most recent drummer of 12 years. Jeff is a monster drummer and one of the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet. It will be an honor and a privilege to step into his gig.

I flew to Seattle and jammed with the band last week. We clicked immediately, nothing but big smiles from the first song to the last. It was great!

I will post more details and tour dates, but I wanted to let the cat out of the bag. It's a great band, great guys, and they have an excellent aggressive record label behind them. They are still making fresh and relevant music. This is an honor indeed.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD's video for the song "God Damn" will make its online debut on April 26. The clip was filmed in February in the Los Angeles area.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD will join METALLICA for the latter's "WorldWired" 2017 North American tour. Produced by Live Nation, the summer's hottest ticket kicks off May 10 at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland with openers VOLBEAT.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD is touring in support of its seventh album, "The Stage", which was given a surprise release at the end of October with almost no promotion beforehand.

"The Stage" debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 album chart back in November following its surprise release. Co-produced by the band and Joe Barresi, the disc features eleven panoramic tracks tied together by an Artificial Intelligence theme. Inspired by the writings of Carl Sagan and Elon Musk, the album is the band's first thematic release. While the term "AI" conjures up images of robots and fantasy films, the band steers clear of a science fiction storyline. Instead, the album sees them taking a futurist's look at the accelerated rate at which technology's intelligence is expanding and what that means — good and bad — for the future.

The album's epic 15-minute-plus closing track, "Exist", features a guest appearance by award-winning astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson giving a spoken-word performance he penned specifically for the album.

Asked why AVENGED SEVENFOLD decided to release an album with no advance notice, singer M. Shadows told Rolling Stone: "Well, man, a lot of it has to do with boredom. [Laughs] Everyone else is dropping the breadcrumbs, having four or five singles before their record comes out. It completely takes away the mystique of the record; by the time it actually comes out, you've already done 50 interviews about what the record's about and is going to sound like. It's 2016; people's attention spans are so short at this point, who has time for three months of lead-up? You've got five guys over here who are very bored of that; so for us, it was about keeping the hype very short and sweet, and then executing on all levels. Here's the record – we spent a long time on it, and it's available for you now. And now we can all learn about the record together, after you hear it, instead of hearing all these things about it as we're dribbling crumbs at you. We just said, 'No BS this time — we're just going to do everything that we want to do, from the live show to the merchandising, to how we present this thing and how we release it.'"

Regarding how Neil deGrasse Tyson's involvement came about, M. Shadows said: "The song came from the idea of wanting to replicate the Big Bang in a heavy-metal sort of way, like, 'OK, this is what it would have sounded like when this happened!' It's like a huge classical piece. We love Gustav Holst's 'The Planets', but no one's really hit the Big Bang, so we did it! I wanted it to be all instrumental, and then Brian [guitarist Synyster Gates] was like, 'Well, I think there should be some vocals on it.' So we ended up with a compromise where it's like, 'OK, when the vocals come in, that's Earth — that's the first time that life starts after the cooling-down period of the Big Bang.' Originally, we wanted to use a recording of Carl Sagan reading an excerpt from 'The Pale Blue Dot', but [his estate] isn't really letting people use that. So we reached out to Neil."

Newly reunited metal band EIGHTEEN VISIONS has just signed with Rise Records and has released a video for the new song "Oath".

Ten years after breaking up, EIGHTEEN VISIONS will release its new album, "XVIII", on June 2. The band has also announced that it will perform its first show in ten years on June 2 at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California to celebrate the release of the record.

EIGHTEEN VISIONS is an American metal band from Orange County, California formed in 1995. In their tens years as a band, they released five albums. Their last self titled album was released back in 2006. The band's flashy image, presence, and their flair set them apart from the rest of the metal core pack.

EIGHTEEN VISIONS has confirmed that the track "Live Again" is a tribute to the late Mick Morris, the band's former bassist who tragically passed away on June 3, 2013 due to a pre-existing heart condition.

Minneapolis, MN-based technical death metallists, Reaping Asmodeia, have released a live video for “Ritual Of Ignorance”, a track from the band’s new album, Impuritize, out now via Prosthetic Records.

The video was filmed at Sonic Lane Studios, the audio was recorded using Reaping Asmodeia's live sound rig.

Mixed and mastered by Zach Ohren (Fallujah, First Fragment), Impuritize combines sheer brutality with meticulous technicality to craft one of the finest extreme death metal albums of the year. The album's artwork was created by Eddie Danger of Unlimited Visual (Born Of Osiris).

Ministry mainman Al Jourgensen's new project, Surgical Meth Machine, released their debut album last year via Nuclear Blast Records. In honor of the "sweet leaf" and Uncle Al's appreciation of the before mentioned wondrous herb, the band has released a re-mix of their hit song "I'm Invisible" by DJ Swamp (Beck, The Crystal Method).

Roger Waters, the creative power and song writing force behind Pink Floyd, announces his first rock album in 25 years, Is This The Life We Really Want?. The album will be available for pre-order tomorrow, April 21st and released globally on Friday, June 2nd via Columbia Records.

Additionally, Waters will launch his North American Us + Them Tour in Kansas City, MO on Friday, May 26th. The Us + Them Tour runs through October 28th, concluding in Vancouver, BC. See full list of dates below.

Roger Waters' last studio album, 1992's Amused To Death, was a prescient study of popular culture, exploring the power of television in the era of the First Gulf War. The long-awaited follow-up, 2017’s Is This The Life We Really Want?, is an unflinching commentary on the modern world and uncertain times. Waters’ forthcoming LP serves as a natural successor to classic Pink Floyd albums such as Animals and The Wall.

Produced and mixed by Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Paul McCartney, Beck, U2, "From the Basement"), Is This The Life We Really Want? includes 12 new Roger Waters musical compositions and studio performances.

The physical album release includes a double 180-gram vinyl LP in a gatefold jacket and a 4-panel soft pack CD. All album formats, physical and digital, are available for pre-order starting April 21st.

Added Cristofoli: "When Björn asked me for a fully-cartoon music video in '80s style, with so many intergalactic babes destroying alien monsters, a joker grin drew on my face... I love '80s cartoons like He-Man, Ken Shiro, etc. Then David sent me the script with a storyboard. I read their story. These guys are out of control, I thought. Just as I like! I spent a few days studying the design of the characters and the spaceships, then I started drawing like a psychopath. I figure I was amused. I hope NFO fans like the video. Rock on!"

SOUNDGARDEN singer Chris Cornell performed his new solo track called "The Promise" on last night's (Wednesday, April 19) edition of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon". The song is the title track from the upcoming film starring Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale and French-Canadian actress Charlotte Le Bon, a love triangle drama set against the Armenian genocide.

"The Promise" premiered last fall at the Toronto International Film Festival and opens in theaters April 21.

Chris will donate his proceeds from the song to the International Rescue Committee. The International Rescue Committee responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic well-being, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster.

Chris's involvement in "The Promise" stemmed from his close friendship with the film's producer, Eric Esrailian. Having married into a Greek family, Chris had been exposed for years to stories about similar treatment suffered by the Greeks at the hands of the Turkish-ruled Ottoman Empire. "If it's something you or your family members went through, it's something you're faced with confronting on a daily basis," he said.

Immersed in these stories and after further research, he was inspired by the strength and perseverance of those who were affected by these tragic events. Chris aimed to help tell the story of the film, but also to connect it to the kind of brutality we still face today.

"The film and plot are your band mates and the song has to be true to the story and the characters in it," he added. "'The Promise', to me, is mainly about paying homage to those we lost in the Armenian Genocide, but it's also about shining a light on more recent atrocities. The same methods used in the Armenian genocide were used to carry out crimes against humanity in Bosnia, Darfur, Rwanda and right now in Syria on multiple fronts, contributing to a massive global refugee crisis. Unfortunately, the words 'never again' seem like just words when we recall these mass executions of the twentieth century, as well as renewed racism and prejudice around the world. Even in the U.S., the warning signs — isolating groups based on race and religion — are evident. We really need to tell these stories and keep telling them in as many different ways as we can. As humans, we have a tremendous capacity to trudge ahead in our lives and not look at the difficult and challenging moments… but I think it's important. Educating ourselves on the past is the best way to understand the present and avoid future atrocities by understanding and intervening. We must educate and stand as one to combat this fear and violence, and as citizens of the world, work to protect each other's human rights."

Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Terry George ("Hotel Rwanda", "Reservation Road", "The Shore"), "The Promise" takes place in 1914. As the Great War looms, the mighty Ottoman Empire is crumbling. Constantinople, the once vibrant, multicultural capital on the shores of the Bosporus, is about to be consumed by chaos. Michael Boghosian (Oscar Isaac), arrives in the cosmopolitan hub as a medial student determined to bring modern medicine back to Siroun, his ancestral village in Southern Turkey where Turkish Muslims and Armenian Christians have lived side by side for centuries. Photojournalist Chris Myers (Christian Bale) has come here only partly to cover geo-politics. He is mesmerized by his love for Ana (Charlotte le Bon), an Armenian artist he has accompanied from Paris after the sudden death of her father. When Michael meets Ana, their shared Armenian heritage sparks an attraction that explodes into a romantic rivalry between the two men. As the Turks form an alliance with Germany and the Empire turns violently against its own ethnic minorities, their conflicting passions must be deferred while they join forces to survive even as events threaten to overwhelm them.

Cornell's most high-profile musical contribution to a movie was "You Know My Name", his theme to the 2006 James Bond film "Casino Royale". Cornell has also contributed songs or title themes to films such as "Great Expectations", "Machine Gun Preacher" and "12 Years A Slave".

The singer told The Pulse Of Radio he prefers to make his solo material sound as different as possible from SOUNDGARDEN. "Writing any of my solo records, there's always this effort to try to make it different than the band that I'm known for," he said. "Mainly just 'cause I've never — as a music fan, never really liked when those two lines get kind of smeared."

SOUNDGARDEN recently announced a North American tour that will kick off on May 3 in Atlanta, winding down on May 27 at the Rocklahoma festival in Pryor, Oklahoma.

Support on selected dates will come from THE PRETTY RECKLESS and THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN. This will be SOUNDGARDEN's first trek since a summer 2014 co-headlining run with NINE INCH NAILS.

SOUNDGARDEN has reportedly been working on material for its seventh studio album, which will follow up 2012's "King Animal".

It's been over two years since the release of critically acclaimed album "In Times", and now Norway's progressive metal legends ENSLAVED have entered the studio again to record their fourteenth, yet-untitled full-length release. Aiming for both wilder and yet more progressive and melodic horizons, the band, which celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary last year, never ceases to surprise and challenge their fans; they will once again step up to the plate. The recordings are taking place at Duper & Solslottet Studios in Bergen throughout April, and will be mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios. With its epic touch, the album promises to be original and refreshing — and to contain some surprising new elements. "It is absolutely fantastic to be in the studio with these new songs," states ENSLAVED mastermind Ivar Bjørnson. Sólstafir will release their new album, Berdreyminn, on May 26th via Season Of Mist. The album’s lead track, “Silfur-Refur”, is available for streaming below.

Sólstafir are not like any other band. Their sixth album, Berdreyminn, underscores this statement. As its title "a dreamer of forthcoming events" aptly describes, the four Icelanders have taken their already impressive evolution one step further. The band has continued to amalgamate haunting melodies, psychedelic phases, as well as strong undercurrents of classic rock and hard rock with echoes of their metal past. Yet Sólstafir’s focus is not on style but pure emotion.

Berdreyminn is eclectic by a conscious choice to make feelings audible and transform taste as well as texture to sound. Genre borders are not broken but simply ignored. Musical influences are gathered from a wide range of sources, re-arranged, and woven into new patterns. Death metal overlords DYING FETUS have premiered the music video for "Fixated On Devastation", the first track off their impending eighth studio album, "Wrong One To Fuck With". The clip was filmed by Mitch Massie at the Voltage Lounge in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 17.

"Wrong One To Fuck With" will be released on June 23 via Relapse.

On their first new release in over five years, the seasoned veterans manage to further stretch their creative and technical boundaries across ten complex tracks of pulverizing death metal, filled with more dynamic intricacies, brutal breakdowns and varied vocal patterns than ever before. Now over twenty-five years into their distinguished career, DYING FETUS cement their legacy with "Wrong One To Fuck With" and uphold their position as one of the most dominant forces in death metal today.

The first press of "Wrong One To Fuck With" on CD includes an expanded, deluxe packaging and the exclusive bonus track "Induce Terror".

Eskimo Callboy, the modern metal six piece from Castrop Rauxel, have kicked up a lot of dust not only in their native Germany, but also internationally. Their latest two albums landed in the German Top Ten Album Charts, We Are The Mess (2014) at #8 and Crystals (2015) at #6, they toured Europe with the likes of Callejon, Papa Roach, Five Finger Death Punch and Asking Alexandria and played high profile festivals such as Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, Open Flair and Nova Rock. Moreover, Eskimo Callboy already toured countries such as Japan, Russia, China and South Africa and played a full US tour with Deuce and Kottonmouth Kings.

After following the band working their way up from sweaty, local clubs to big international stages Century Media Records/People Like You Records are excited to work the band worldwide.
