ROBERT PLANT Explains Why He Is Not Interested In LED ZEPPELIN Reunion

ROBERT PLANT Explains Why He Is Not Interested In LED ZEPPELIN Reunion

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Robert Plant has suggested in a new interview that he would be "whore" if he were to agree to take part in a LED ZEPPELIN reunion. When pressed about the band's 50th anniversary this year, the inevitable archival releases, and the hopes for yet another reunion, Plant told Esquire: "All those projects, well, they're going to do somebody some good somewhere, and that's good. But you don't even have to talk to me if all you want to know about is LED ZEPPELIN. 38 years ago, John Bonham passed away, that's all I know. That's it. That's the story. You know, LED ZEPPELIN was an amazing, prolific fun factory for a period of time, but it was three amazing musicians and a singer living in the times. Those times. That's not going to stop me doing what I'm doing now. So that's a headline, or not a headline. It doesn't matter to me... If I didn't, I'd be a whore, and I'm never going to be that. I'm only a singer, and therefore I can get bored really quickly. And if I get bored really quickly, what am I doing nearly 70 years old being bored? No chance. So I move on all the time."

Plant, who just wrapped his North American dates behind his latest album, "Carry Fire", continued: "The fact of that is, in the last 10 or 15 years, my work has been really well received. And it's very nice to see, and it makes me feel a bit that I'm in the right place, at least for some people, even if other people just don't know about it. I mean, it is basically about opening the blinds. Look, how many thousands of people are there in the airports that I travel through, who are amazed that they see me, yet have no idea of what I'm doing? Not a fucking clue. That's how it goes, and I'm fine with that, especially since the emergency departments of the geriatric wards are filled with people like me, still hanging on, because there was something else before."

He went on to say: "For me, my time has got to be filled with joy and endeavor and humor and power and absolute self-satisfaction. That's not with LED ZEPPELIN. That's doing what I'm doing right now, with this band, on this tour."

Plant admitted to The Pulse Of Radio that no matter what he does, there will always be a cross-section of fans that rate it against his work with LED ZEPPELIN. "The LED ZEPPELIN myth has been extended now by the mission and the cult," he said. "And so, everybody goes, 'Oh, but ZEPPELIN was much better than that.' Maybe it'll happen to me, too, but I've kind of taken the essence of ZEPPELIN, and I am the singer of LED ZEPPELIN. And I've taken the essence of the changes of LED ZEPPELIN and brought it up to date. So, I could never, ever hope to top it. I could never expect to be taken as... taken to the hearts of people quite like LED ZEPPELIN was, because I'm only a part of it."

Coming on March 23 is a newly remastered reissue of the LED ZEPPELIN 2003 live collection "How The West Was Won". The set, which features new remastering supervised by Jimmy Page, marks the first offering from the band in celebration of its 50th anniversary this year.

"How The West Was Won" will be released in multiple formats including triple-CD, the first ever vinyl and Blu-ray Audio editions — with the Blu-ray containing hi-res 5.1 surround sound — and the LP version spread over four discs.

ROTTING CHRIST's SAKIS TOLIS: 'I Did This Without Making Money For 20 Years, But I Did It'

ROTTING CHRIST's SAKIS TOLIS: 'I Did This Without Making Money For 20 Years, But I Did It'

Chart of Pavillon 666 conducted an interview with frontman Sakis Tolis of Greek extreme metal veterans ROTTING CHRIST prior to the band's February 6 concert at Cco Jean Pierre Lachaize in Villeurbanne, France. You can watch the entire chat below. A few excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On choosing the songs for the band's forthcoming best-of compilation, "Their Greatest Spells":

Sakis: "It was a nightmare to choose between 200 songs we have recorded. Only 33 [could make it]. That was a pain, but we tried to choose songs from all of our albums and all of our periods. I did the best [I could]. I'm sure that no one will be one-hundred percent satisfied, but you have to sacrifice some songs. It's a best-of, it's 30 years of the band. This year we celebrate with some releases, some old-school releases, some seven-inch EPs, some cassettes like we used to do back in the day. We like this idea. We like very much this idea; we like the spirit. Celebrate 30 years, so we'd like to celebrate it with something like this."

On whether he thought ROTTING CHRIST would last 30 years upon their 1988 formation:

Sakis: "It's a full life. No, of course [not]…you don't start the band to exist for 30 years or to be famous or rich or whatever the fuck. We just started the band because I wanted to sound like my idols back then. I wanted to play only one show and now I'm in a position where I've played 1,500 shows. And, no, I didn't expect something like this, but the spirit remains the same, even if I'm not that young. I still have the spirit and the hope that if we are in good health to keep playing with the band until our death. If health permits, of course. It's not up to me. If health does not permit, then I will not serve."

On whether there's anything from ROTTING CHRIST's career he'd like to re-do:

Sakis: "Yes, I could change some contracts. We used to sign everywhere without reading the contracts. I was very much in love with music, so I didn't care about paperwork. So, maybe I could change some of the wrong decisions I [made] with the contracts, but still, I learn from my mistakes. That made me more powerful. That's very important. That made me very powerful. So, let's say, maybe I wouldn't change anything in the end. If something doesn't kill me, it makes me stronger."

On what advice he would give to younger bands:

Sakis: "I don't know. I grew up in a very different era than nowadays. I remember I took the train with my band back in the '90s and we toured Europe on the train. It would be very hard nowadays for something like this to happen. I remember, myself, I did this without [making] money for 20 years, but I did it. I could survive because the situation wasn't like it is today. Things were better back in the day, or maybe more easy to make sacrifices like I used to make. So, if new bands want advice, it's just to concentrate on what they're doing and if they don't achieve something, that's no problem. Life is not only for them, everyone is good at something. For instance, if you tell me to do something else than music, believe me, it would be very bad. Someone else should be very good at something else. You need my music sometimes, I need your work. Everyone needs everyone. I suggest just be yourself, play your music, but be yourself, that's important. If you don't achieve something, no problem. Life is short, you should enjoy it."

On whether he's working on new ROTTING CHRIST material:

Sakis: "When I get back from this tour, I will start to write the new album, slowly. I have many ideas. I have a very strong [surge of creativity] for the next [album]. It's very hard for me because it will be album number 14. I hope to come up with something to satisfy [the fans]."

"Their Greatest Spells" will be released on March 23 via Season Of Mist. This double-CD compilation features a best-of selection approved by Tolis as well as the new track "I Will Not Serve", which can be streamed below.

THREE DAYS GRACE: Lyric Video For 'Right Left Wrong' Song

THREE DAYS GRACE: Lyric Video For 'Right Left Wrong' Song

The official lyric video for the song "Right Left Wrong" from THREE DAYS GRACE can be seen below. The track is taken from the Canadian band's new album, "Outsider", which will be released on March 9 via RCA. "Outsider" is the sixth full-length album from the band, and is the group's first since 2015's "Human".

"Outsider" track listing:

01. Right Left Wrong
02. The Mountain
03. I Am An Outsider
04. Infra-Red
05. Nothing To Lose But You
06. Me Against You
07. Love Me Or Leave Me
08. Strange Days
09. Villain I'm Not
10. Chasing The First Time
11. The New Real
12. The Abyss

"To me, 'Outsider' represents the journey to find your place," said bass player Brad Walst. "The world feels crazy at times. We try to get away from that every once in a while. We do our own thing, and we're comfortable doing it. We have always looked forward — and not backwards. That's an ongoing theme."

Forging a new path forward is exactly what the musicians did in the fall of 2016. Instead of congregating in a downtown Toronto rehearsal space, the band which consists of Matt Walst (lead vocals), Barry Stock (lead guitar), Brad Walst (bass) and Neil Sanderson (drums, percussion, keyboards, programming), initially wrote in a converted garage behind Brad's house located two hours from the city.

"This is all about taking a step back from life's madness without destroying yourself, cutting everyone off, or going crazy," said Neil. "You get a break and find the space to create." Eventually, the band retreated to Neil's 90-acre farm to further hone ideas, and often sat around bonfires with acoustic guitars, tapping into the wild spirit surrounding them. As the songs took shape, the band headed to the Ontario's remote Jukasa Studios, and called upon longtime friends and collaborators including producers Gavin Brown and Howard Benso, engineer Mike Plotnikoff and Chris Lord-Alge on mixing duties, for an album that speaks directly to their army of fans from around the globe. "That production team hasn't happened since 'One-X'," added Neil. "We were lucky to get this group together. It made sense because we were in a similar headspace."

As much as it upholds tradition, "Outsider" represents progression for THREE DAYS GRACE. Marking his second offering as part of the band, Matt showed "a new level of confidence and brought a ton of ideas," according to his brother Brad. Meanwhile, Neil expanded the signature electronic palette, integrating analog synths and standout programming with the help of Rhys Fulber (FEAR FACTORY, FRONTLINE ASSEMBLY). He casually nodded to electronic influences as diverse as NINE INCH NAILS, WHITE ZOMBIE, BRING ME THE HORIZON, Lana Del Rey, and a surprising cult classic, the movie "Lost Boys". First single "The Mountain" evinces that evolution. Those cinematic sonic flourishes augment arena-ready riffs before summiting towards a seismic refrain, "I'm still surviving, keep climbing, keep climbing the mountain."

Given this undeniable unpredictability, "Outsider" feels right at home alongside a catalog of fan favorites from THREE DAYS GRACE. Since 2003, the band has staked a spot amongst the hard rock vanguard, breaking records, toppling charts, moving millions of units worldwide, and making history by holding the all-time record for "most #1 singles at Active Rock Radio ever" with 13. In 2015, "Human" marked the group's second straight #1 slot on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums chart as well as their fourth consecutive debut in Top 20 of the Top 200. It spawned two #1 singles "Painkiller" and "I Am Machine", signaling the band's 13th overall and fifth consecutive number ones on the Active Rock Radio chart. Moreover, the four-piece consistently averaged a staggering 3.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify — remaining one of the most listened to rock bands in the world.

RIOT V: First Trailer For 'Armor Of Light' Album

RIOT V: First Trailer For 'Armor Of Light' Album

The first trailer for "Armor Of Light", the new album from RIOT V, the band featuring members of legendary metal pioneers RIOT, can be seen below. Due on April 27 via Nuclear Blast, the disc was produced by Chris "The Wizard" Collier (METAL CHURCH, FLOTSAM & JETSAM, SLIPKNOT, KORN), while the cover artwork was created by Mariusz Gandzel (CRYSTAL VIPER).

The new songs promise to please fans of the "Thundersteel" era of RIOT, as longtime Mark Reale music collaborator Donnie Van Stavern undertakes a lot of the writing as he did on "Thundersteel", "The Privilege Of Power" and the latest offering, "Unleash The Fire".

Hardly any other metal act has such a long and absorbing history behind it. Since the quintet formed in 1975, they have been hit by several severe strokes of fate during their long career. Three deceased members — Rhett Forester (R.I.P. 1994), Guy Speranza (R.I.P. 2003) and Mark Reale (R.I.P. 2012) — have left their mark on the four decades of RIOT's band history.

Since their legendary debut album, "Rock City" (1977), RIOT has released numerous heavy metal classics, including "Fire Down Under" (with classics like "Swords And Tequila"), their masterpiece "Thundersteel" (1988) and the unforgotten "The Privilege Of Power" (1990).

After the death of Mark Reale and the departure of Tony Moore, Todd Michael Hall (from Michigan), completed the lineup of RIOT, which changed its name to RIOT V and moved forward under the auspices of the two long-term members and main songwriters Donnie Van Stavern (bass) and Mike Flyntz (guitar). With the critically acclaimed "Unleash The Fire" (2014), a pure power metal jewel once again underlined the musical importance and influence of the quintet.

Many artists name-check RIOT as an important influence of their musical career and have paid tribute to the power metal godfathers on multiple occasions. The list is long and includes several well-known acts such as HAMMERFALL ("Flight Of The Warrior"), Luca Turilli's RHAPSODY ("Thundersteel"), AXEL RUDI PELL ("Warrior") and newcomers such as NIGHT DEMON ("Road Racin'"), ALPHA TIGER ("Flight Of The Warrior"), SAVAGE MASTER ("Swords And Tequila") and STALLION ("Rock City").

"Armor Of Light" track listing:

01. Victory
02. End Of The World
03. Messiah
04. Angel's Thunder, Devil's Reign
05. Burn The Daylight
06. Heart Of A Lion
07. Armor Of Light
08. Set The World Alight
09. San Antonio
10. Caught In the Witches Eye
11. Ready to Shine
12. Raining Fire

NEVERMORE's 'The Complete Collection': Unboxing Video

NEVERMORE's 'The Complete Collection': Unboxing Video

On March 9, Century Media Records will release "The Complete Collection" by NEVERMORE, an impressive 12-disc CD box set including all studio releases, the "Year Of The Voyager" live album as well as a disc of rarities. Limited to 2,000 copies, it also includes a numbered collector's certificate, an 80-page booklet (with lyrics, photos, liner notes) plus a poster flag depicting the band's lineup on 2005's masterpiece "This Godless Endeavor". Guitarist Jeff Loomis and drummer Van Williams have been involved in this project since early October 2017, with Williams also creating the artwork for this set.

Originally, "The Complete Collection" was supposed to be an attractive format celebrating one of Century Media's finest bands on time with the label's 30th anniversary in 2018. Unfortunately, it now marks the first release coming out after vocalist Warrel Dane passed away, which was not only a shock to his family, fans, friends, and fellow musicians, but also to the many current and former employees at Century Media who had been working with him since the early '90s. At this time, however, all parts of the box set were already being manufactured, except for the booklet, which was completed in early 2018.

Featuring quotes from historical interviews with main songwriters Jeff Loomis and Warrel Dane, "The Complete Collection" offers a detailed journey through one of metal's most consistent and inspired discographies, but it was never meant to be a tribute.

An unboxing video of "The Complete Collection" can be seen below.

Formed in Seattle back in 1992, NEVERMORE developed quickly into one of the most revered metal bands of the time, representing a metallic counterpart to the "grunge" acts of the era. Blending the heaviness of traditional American thrash with progressive elements as well as the gloomy lyrics and impressive, emotionally charged vocal range of Warrel Dane (of SANCTUARY fame), albums such as "Dreaming Neon Black", "Dead Heart In A Dead World", and "This Godless Endeavor" are considered metal milestones to the very day.

NEVERMORE effectively split up when Loomis and Williams announced their departure from the band due to personal differences with Dane and bassist Jim Sheppard. Warrel later described NEVERMORE in an interview as "the greatest band that alcohol ever ruined."

Dane died on December 13 in São Paulo, Brazil at the age of 56. The singer reportedly had a heart attack during the night and could not be revived.

Watch CALIBAN's 'Before Later Becomes Never' Video Feat. THY ART IS MURDER's CJ MCMAHON

Watch CALIBAN's 'Before Later Becomes Never' Video Feat. THY ART IS MURDER's CJ MCMAHON

German metallers CALIBAN have released the Iconographic-produced video for the song "Before Later Becomes Never". The track, which features guest vocals by CJ McMahon from THY ART IS MURDER, is taken from CALIBAN's upcoming album, "Elements", which will be released on April 6 via Century Media.

CALIBAN guitarist Marc Görtz had this to say about the album cover: "We used the elements Earth, Air, Fire, and Water as symbols for realization, ideas, power, and emotion. These symbols inspire us to continue to do what we love the most, which is to create, evolve, and be inspired by our music. And these elements directly correspond to the cover art, which was done by Marcel Gadacz. He did the art for 'Gravity', so we're happy to have him back."

For "Elements", CALIBAN brought back longtime collaborator — going all the way back to 2007's "The Awakening" — and studio wizard Benny Richter to co-produce with Görtz at his Nemesis Studios. CALIBAN also hired on German-based Andy Posdziech and buddy Sebastian "Sushi" Biesler, as well as Australian-based Callan Orr to assist in the recording process. "Elements" was mixed by Görtz and mastered by Olman Viper, whose repertoire includes previous CALIBAN albums "I Am Nemesis" (2012), "Ghost Empire" (2014), and "Gravity" (2016).

"The production on 'Elements' was pretty different," says Görtz. "The instrumental side of the production was produced by me, Andy and Callan. Then, Benny and myself worked on fine-tuning the music. The vocals, however, were produced by Benny, with Sushi acting as a vocal coach. We wanted Benny to focus on the vocals and the vocal production. Getting them right was very important to us."

"Elements" track listing:

01. This Is War
02. Intoxicated
03. Ich Blute Für Dich
04. Before Later Becomes Never
05. Set Me Free
06. My Madness
07. I Am Fear
08. Delusion
09. Carry On
10. Masquerade
11. Incomplete
12. The Great Unknown
13. Sleepers Awake

Zombie said in 2016 that he had "many legit reasons" for not wanting to reform WHITE ZOMBIE, despite some fans' suggestion to the contrary.

The subject of a WHITE ZOMBIE reunion once again came up after Rob performed "Astro-Creep: 2000" live at Riot Fest.

As video footage of the performance made its way online, a WHITE ZOMBIE fan made an impassioned plea for Zombie to reform the group. The fan wrote in the comments section on Instagram: "Please, for the love of God, reunite WHITE ZOMBIE. The reasons you've given in the past for not wanting to do it… honestly make no sense. First you said that reunions are never good, and it's best to let sleeping corpses lie. Hello… GUNS N' ROSES? MISFITS? Reunions are beloved bands are totally welcomed and completely awesome. a white zombie reunion has zero chance of being bad.

"The second reason you have is that your crowds these days 'barely react' to the WHITE ZOMBIE songs. Well, maybe they would react more if those songs weren't abandoned. I can promise you that thousands of people still love and cherish those albums you need in the '80s and '90s. A WHITE ZOMBIE tour would be a huge success.

"I love you, Rob, but I gotta be honest.. I think the truth is that you just think you're too good to pick up the phone, call up Sean [Yseult, former WHITE ZOMBIE bassist and Rob's ex-girlfriend] and the guys… and get that ball rolling again. I don't know if there's some sort of Sean/Sherri [Moon Zombie, Rob's wife] jealousy thing that caused you guys to break up in the first place… I mean, it's kinda funny you broke up WHITE ZOMBIE but took the drummer with you… But either way… just do a WHITE ZOMBIE reunion. [You] have no legit reason not to."

Rob took notice of the fan's comment and personally responded via Instagram, writing: "[I am] always amazed at how people can speak with such authority on subjects they know zero about.

"I have many legit reasons [for not wanting to reform WHITE ZOMBIE]. Just because you don't know them does not mean they don't exist.

"Everything is not everybody's business."

Yseult was asked by rock journalist Mitch Lafon what her reaction was when she first found out Rob was pursuing a solo career after WHITE ZOMBIE's 1997 split. She said: "First of all, I knew that we were breaking up — it wasn't a big surprise — but it was a little bit of a slap in the face to me and Jay [Yuenger, former WHITE ZOMBIE guitarist] when we had our… After one year, we were supposed to be taking a break, and then we were gonna have a call and talk about getting back together and making a record. I knew that we weren't getting back together, but literally the next… Jay and I both said, 'We have more riffs. We'd love to write some more music.' And Rob kept saying, 'No, no, no. I think we're done.' And what are you gonna say? You can't tell the singer that he has to sing. [Laughs] Even though our manager told Jay and I that we should go on and continue on with WHITE ZOMBIE and get a new singer, we both refused that. But the slap in the face was that [Rob's] solo record came out, like, the next day, so he spent that year making a record, knowing that [WHITE ZOMBIE wasn't] gonna be a band again. So that was a little… you know… whatever. But, like, who cares? You know, really. I didn't care. I moved to New Orleans. I knew that we'd already broke up anyway."

WHITE ZOMBIE split up in 1997 and Rob Zombie went on to launch a successful solo career in 1998. He told The Pulse Of Radio that nowadays a lot of his audience isn't even familiar with the old WHITE ZOMBIE songs. "The crowds are really, really young and I've been noticing that with the set list too, because, you know, as the time has gone on, we've really worked the WHITE ZOMBIE material more out of the set, because we've been finding that it's not working like it used to," he said. "It seems like that those songs just seem now old to people and it's very strange."

Zombie and his band began working on the follow-up to 2016's "The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser" last summer. The new LP is tentatively due out later this year.

Zombie is also supposedly going to put on his filmmaker hat and start production this month on his next movie, a sequel to his 2005 horror hit "The Devil's Rejects".

Here Is COREY TAYLOR Working On Lyrics For Next SLIPKNOT Album

Here Is COREY TAYLOR Working On Lyrics For Next SLIPKNOT Album

Corey Taylor has posted a photo on Instagram of him apparently writing lyrics for SLIPKNOT's next album. The snap, which was captioned "Working... #slipknot," can be seen below.

Although he's still on the road with STONE SOUR, Taylor recently said that he has already begun putting together lyrical ideas for SLIPKNOT's follow-up to 2014's ".5: The Gray Chapter", adding that the material will see him at his "most autobiographical" that he has "been in years." Taylor's latest comments come six months after SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan revealed that the band had "about 27 pieces of work" written for the band's new disc.

Asked by Musik Universe if he has heard any of the music Crahan has been composing with the other instrumental members of SLIPKNOT, Taylor replied: "Yeah, I have. It's awesome. That's all I'm gonna say about it. It's everything I wanted it to be." As for the lyrics, Taylor explained: "It's really dark. It's probably the most autobiographical I've been in years. Just for the fact that I've been through a lot the last few years and I've been sitting on a lot."

SLIPKNOT's touring cycle in support of its latest disc ended in November 2016, with Taylor returning to his other band STONE SOUR last year.

The singer said that the new SLIPKNOT LP will "absolutely" arrive next year. He remarked: "2019, sometime in that year we will definitely be recording it. We'll finish writing it, record it and be ready to go on the road."
Taylor and STONE SOUR just finished a string of North American dates in support of that band's sixth studio effort, "Hydrograd".

FROM ASHES TO NEW: 'Crazy' Video Released

FROM ASHES TO NEW: 'Crazy' Video Released

FROM ASHES TO NEW has dropped the official music video for "Crazy", the first single off the band's upcoming album, "The Future", out April 20 via Better Noise Records/Eleven Seven Music.

"Crazy" is the first look into the Philadelphia-based band's revamped lineup and sound. Consisting of founding front man/rapper/programmer Matt Brandyberry, guitarist Lance Dowdle, new vocalist Danny Case and drummer Mat Madiro, the band's chemistry lies at the core of "The Future". An album that sees the band expanding their music palette and taking its blend of rock, hip/hop, pop, and metal to new heights.

"Anxiety made it difficult to write at times but ultimately we came together and decided we were going to write the best music we possibly could and see where that took us," said Brandyberry.

"Crazy" is, at its core, "a song about someone or something driving you absolutely out of your mind and feeling unable to walk away from it", explains Case. "I dated someone for a very short period of time and it felt like everything I said and did was wrong. I thought I was losing my mind because I knew it was a bad situation, but I just felt like I couldn't walk away. I think having that life experience really helped when we sat down and wrote the lyrics."

"The Future" was recorded at Atrium Audio with producers Grant McFarland and Carson Slovak (AUGUST BURNS RED) and mixed by Josh Wilbur (KORN, LAMB OF GOD), while the video was directed by Raul Gonzo.

"The Future" track listing:

01. Wake Up
02. Crazy
03. My Name
04. Gone Forever
05. Broken
06. Forgotten
07. Enemy
08. Nowhere To Run
09. Let Go

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Joined By JOHNNY DEPP On Stage At U.S. Tour Kick-Off (Video)

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Joined By JOHNNY DEPP On Stage At U.S. Tour Kick-Off (Video)

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS were joined by Wayne Kramer (MC5) and actor Johnny Depp on stage last night at the opening show of the band's U.S. tour at The Canyon in Santa Clarita, California. They performed a cover version of MC5's classic song "Kick Out the Jams" followed by the STP's "Sex Type Thing". Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.

Depp is a bandmate of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS bassist Robert DeLeo in HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES, which also features Alice Cooper and Joe Perry.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS guitarist Dean DeLeo said in a recent interview with The San Diego Union-Tribune that the band would have quit if it hadn't found the right singer to succeed the late Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington. DeLeo explained: "If we didn't find the person we felt we could move forward with, we ultimately would have put a fork in it."

But that person turned out to be former "X Factor" contestant Jeff Gutt, with DeLeo saying: "There was no room for error. That's why we spent nearly a year together with Jeff before we invited him to join the band. We wanted to make sure it was the right decision. But we did find somebody who could not ony do the catalog of our previous songs justice, but someone we could write new songs with, too."

Gutt, a Michigan native, was previously a member of the bands RIVAL CITY and DRY CELL. Asked whether Gutt not being an established star was an advantage for the group, DeLeo replied: "I wanted a person I knew we could write songs with... I didn't give a shit if Jeff was well-known or not. I just wanted a guy who could do the gig."

Gutt's first album with the band, a self-titled effort and STP's seventh overall, is due out on March 16.

MIKE PORTNOY's Son MAX Launches New Metal Band TALLAH

MIKE PORTNOY's Son MAX Launches New Metal Band TALLAH

Max Portnoy, son of Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, THE WINERY DOGS, SONS OF APOLLO), has launched a new metal band called TALLAH. The Pennsylvania-based group is comprised of five members who share a passion for playing intense, heavy, and intricate music combined with an insane live show, unlike any other.

Influenced by bands such as CODE ORANGE, SLIPKNOT, KORN and DEFTONES, TALLAH relies on the spirit of innovative metal realized through panicked guitar screams treated with industrial elements and distortion. Screaming vocals provided by YouTube sensation Justin Bonitz mixed with melodic choruses create a dreamlike vision in which the audience can live. Driving bass fills the room with deep and dirty tones that sync effortlessly with the thunderous bellows of the drums.

The band recently played two shows on the Schecter stage at NAMM 2018 and is currently booking shows in the U.S. and internationally.

TALLAH is:

Justin Bonitz - Vocals
Max Portnoy - Drums
Derrick Schneider - Guitar
Andrew Cooper - Bass
AJ Wisniewski – Guitar

Mike Portnoy said two years ago that he didn't give Max drum lessons because he was "not a good teacher." Mike told Metal Wani: "Max does go for lessons with somebody else, for two reasons. I'm not home consistently enough and I think it's important for any young drummer to get lessons consistently. The other reason is that I'm not a teacher. It doesn't matter how many awards I've won, it doesn't make me a good teacher."

Despite the fact that Max is taking lessons from someone else, Mike conceded that some of his technique has rubbed off on his son.

"Max growing up on tour and sitting behind my drums and watching me, you can inevitably see a lot of my style in his style," Mike said. "I've always been supportive of whatever he wanted to do. But that fact he picked up a pair of drumsticks is totally cool."

Max is also a member of NEXT TO NONE, which released its second album, "Phases", last July through InsideOut Music in Europe and EMP Label Group in North America.

THE LOCAL BAND Feat. CHILDREN OF BODOM, THE 69 EYES, RECKLESS LOVE Members: Video Of March 2018 Helsinki Concert

THE LOCAL BAND Feat. CHILDREN OF BODOM, THE 69 EYES, RECKLESS LOVE Members: Video Of March 2018 Helsinki Concert

Fan-filmed video footage of THE LOCAL BAND, the Finnish covers act featuring Alexi Laiho (CHILDREN OF BODOM), Jussi 69 (THE 69 EYES), Olli Herman (RECKLESS LOVE) and Archie Kuosmanen (SANTA CRUZ), performing on March 1 at Tavastia in Helsinki, Finland can be seen below. The group's setlist consisted of 1980s "hair metal" classics, including tracks originally written and recorded by POISON, OZZY OSBOURNE, BON JOVI and MÖTLEY CRÜE.

THE LOCAL BAND made its live debut in December 2013 and has been playing sporadic shows ever since.

It was a warm dark night before Christmas in Los Angeles in 2013. Jussi 69 and Alexi Laiho met in Hollywood, had a couple of drinks and decided to put together a covers band that would perform songs from POISON, MÖTLEY CRÜE and others classic acts of the 1980s. They shook hands and swore that they really were going to make this happen. The key word and the whole idea behind THE LOCAL BAND would be to have fun. No stress, no pressure, and definitely no business plans.

Right after Jussi and Alexi decided to do this, it was obvious they would need a charismatic singer, one who could handle all the classic hard rock super hits, from "Jump" to "Girls, Girls, Girls", among all their other favorites. Jussi decided to send a message to RECKLESS LOVE's Olli Herman.

"Naturally, I was immediately excited and kept saying: 'Yes — HELLYEAH!!!' over and over again while listening to Jussi talk me through the idea," says Olli. "Nothing could've kept me from taking part after I heard we would only perform killer songs from all the greatest '80s hair metal bands. I couldn't believe it. All my favorites!! I was ecstatic."

To complete the lineup, they got Archie Cruz from SANTA CRUZ to play bass. Now this crazy crew was ready to rock!

Says Archie: "When I got the call from Jussi, my jaw basically hit the floor. I had been watching these guys, these huge rock stars since I was a kid, and never in a million years thought I'd be in the same band with them when I was practising BODOM riffs in my bedroom, or watching a 69 EYES show as a kid. The fact that we're playing pretty much all of my favorite songs makes it even cooler. Being a part of THE LOCAL BAND is a dream come true for me and it's been one of the coolest things in my life to be a part of this."

THE LOCAL BAND was supposed to last for one night only, for a single show at the legendary Tavastia club in Helsinki, with just one interview, no rehearsals and half a soundcheck. But the universe had some other plans for these rock gods, and the mighty quartet decided to spread its good vibes around the world: their "Locals Only - Dark Edition" debut EP, full of all-time classics, was released in December 2015.

If you ask Jussi, the idea of recording an EP was written in the stars.

Jussi: "Some weeks after our first show, I walked into a bar in New York and they were playing 'Shout At The Devil' by MÖTLEY CRÜE — which was our opening song at the Tavastia show — followed by 'Sunglasses At Night' by Corey Hart. I saw this as a sign, and called Alexi to say that we can't leave this cool thing here. We have to do this, we need to record a single, and 'At Night' is the most perfect song for us to cover. Alexi agreed immediately. We didn't want to cover the most obvious songs that every other cover band plays, as those songs are perfect the way those bands originally recorded them. We wanted to surprise people with unexpected, twisted songs. Suddenly recording just one song expanded into an EP. And it's a perverse, totally unexpected collection of songs that me and Alexi came up with. Those are some of our favorites that pretty much nobody knows."

The EP was recorded in four days, and THE LOCAL BAND is very proud of the result.

"It's a killer, mind-blowing party music EP which is going to blow people's minds," said Jussi. "Oh, and the key word, the reason why we did this, even though every one of us is busier than ever with our own bands... We had so much fun doing it, a fucking blast! I know that can be heard from the end result."

THE LOCAL BAND is:

Olli Herman - Vocals
Alexi Laiho - Bass
Samy Elbanna - Guitar
Jussi 69 - Drums
Hohottava Hujoppi – Keyboards

KAMELOT: Lyric Video For New Song 'RavenLight' From 'The Shadow Theory' Album

The official lyric video for the song "RavenLight" from KAMELOT can be seen below. The track is taken from the band's upcoming album, "The Shadow Theory", which will be released on April 6 via Napalm Records. The follow-up to 2015's "Haven" features all the signature elements of KAMELOT and also sees the band step out to add new and industrial elements along while combining amazing emotions that harken to the band's earlier days. The group's epic new music is chock full of symbolism relating to how the band feels about the world and the current state of civilization.

KAMELOT founder and guitarist Thomas Youngblood states: "'The Shadow Theory' album is a psychological journey through the complexity of the human mind. We are subjected to stimuli constantly through media, technology, social experiments and AI. Can we still be social creatures in the near future? 'The Shadow Theory' is an album that is mixing many worlds, giving the listener an ecape within our own realities. This album was written and recorded over the entire year and we are really proud of the song elements and diversity on 'The Shadow Theory'."

"The Shadow Theory" was helmed by acclaimed music producer Sascha Paeth and mastered by Jacob Hansen. Guests on the album include Lauren Hart (ONCE HUMAN), Jennifer Haben (BEYOND THE BLACK) and Sascha Paeth. The amazing cover and artwork was created by Stefan Heilemann.

NEKROGOBLIKON To Release Welcome To Bonkers Album In April; "The Skin Thief" Track Streaming

NEKROGOBLIKON To Release Welcome To Bonkers Album In April; "The Skin Thief" Track Streaming

Nekrogoblikon have posted the blistering new track "The Skin Thief", which will appear on the band’s new offering, Welcome To Bonkers, out on April 13th. Soon the album will be available for pre-order here. You can listen to the new song below.

Alex (guitars) states: "Since this was our first album with our new beast of a drummer Eric, we thought it would be fun to try writing something absolutely pummelling that really showcased his abilities. We ended up with a song that's far heavier and more dramatic than anything we've done before, but still sounds 100% goblin metal. Plus, we are playing it live each and every night on the Rings Of Saturn tour, so be ready for chaos!"

Scorpion (vocals) further adds: “We always like to change things up when writing new material. This time around, I pretty much wrote most of it, whereas we’ve had varying degrees of collaboration on past albums. I generally prioritize catchiness when writing, so it’s a catchy album. It was rad working with Jason “Vagina Dr. Dad Mr. Lippington” Suecof and he brought everything up another level.

"We’re really stoked to be hitting the road with five other bands this March. It’s cool because its like five more serious bands, and then us. We’re going to be playing some new songs, trying some new gear and generally totally destroying souls, so we fully expect to see you and all of your friends there."

Welcome To Bonkers was produced by the renowned Jason Suecof (Trivium, The Black Dahlia Murder) and is the band's most aggressive and dynamic offering yet.

Don’t miss the group on tour with Rings Of Saturn, Allegaeon, Lorna Shore, Entheos and Gloom, starting tomorrow and running through March 30th. All dates can be found here.

Video Premiere: GUS G.'s 'Letting Go'

Video Premiere: GUS G.'s 'Letting Go'

"Letting Go", the new video from Greek guitar virtuoso Gus G., well known in rock and metal circles for his work as Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist and as leader of his own band FIREWIND, can be seen below. The song is taken from Gus's new solo album, "Fearless", which will be released on April 20 via AFM Records. The follow-up to 2015's "Brand New Revolution" marks his first release since exiting Osbourne's band in 2017.

On "Fearless", Gus joins forces with vocalist/bassist Dennis Ward (PINK CREAM 69, UNISONIC) and drummer Will Hunt (EVANESCENCE).

"Dennis and I have collaborated very closely for a number years; he produced the current FIREWIND album, 'Immortals', among other things," Gus described his relationship with the multitalented German-American. "We're on the same musical wavelength and simply continued our cooperation after the FIREWIND production. I sent him demos of and ideas for my new songs and once we had enough material and started to think about vocalists, Dennis suggested recording the album as a trio.

"A lot of people don't realize that Dennis is not only a brilliant songwriter, bassist and producer, but also an excellent singer. I immediately liked his suggestion because this would be very different from everything else I've done before."

It was only a short step from the enlistment of drummer Will Hunt. Gus said: "Will was at the very top of my wish list. Fate smiled on me because we played at the Frankfurt music fair 2017 during my tour with Steve Stevens, and Will stayed at the same hotel. So I approached him, we talked for a while and he agreed. Last August he came to the studio and recorded the drum parts for the whole album within two and a half days. A real pro with a great groove and an awesome punch."

Which applies not only to Hunt and Ward, but of course also to Gus himself, who once again proves to be a phenomenal guitarist on "Fearless", presenting technical skills which exclude all possibility of doubt and a compositional talent that allows his fellow musicians to shine.

Hard-as-nails metal tracks such as the opener "Letting Go", "Mr. Manson", which is driven by a dark bass/guitar riff, and the subsequent melodic "Don't Tread On Me" immediately propel the new album into the desired direction. At the same time, the three instrumental songs give listeners an idea of the outstanding talent of the 37-year-old who is easily on a par with George Lynch ("Mr. Scary") and Michael Schenker ("Into The Arena").

"A lot of fans have asked me to record more instrumental tracks. Voilà, here they are," grins Gus. Last but not least, the successful cover versions of the DIRE STRAITS classic "Money For Nothing", which surprises with an unusual change of key after the noteworthy intro, deserves a mention.

"Fearless" track listing:

01. Letting Go
02. Mr. Manson
03. Don't Tread On Me
04. Fearless
05. Nothing To Say
06. Money For Nothing
07. Chances
08. Thrill Of The Chase
09. Big City
10. Last Of My Kind

Bonus tracks on digipak/vinyl:

11. Little Ain't Enough
12. Aftermath

GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT Debut "Epitaph" Music Video

GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT Debut "Epitaph" Music Video

Intense rock instrumentation, ethereal and emotional soundscapes by ambient instrumental band God Is An Astronaut await! Since forming 16 years ago, the Irish trio  has reigned as one of the premier instrumental groups. Their new album will move you deeply.

“Epitaph” is the first single and the title track of God Is An Astronaut’s upcoming album, out on April 27th via Napalm Records. “Epitaph” sets the album's mood. There is pain and loss at work here, but not pain and loss that are given in to. Sparse piano motifs face energetic rhythm, shimmering guitar coatings, and eruptions of dense fury breathe life into a journey of melancholic longing.

God Is An Astronaut comments on the new video: “We wanted the video to capture the horror, overwhelming grief and the dark reality of an untimely death. The video features post mortem photography as it directly reflects the subject matter. This song touches on everything from childhood innocence (vulnerability) to the moment you are given the shocking news, to the aftermath that faces a family over a tragic loss.”

EYES OF THE SUN Streaming New Song "Walks Of Life"

On March 16th, Brooklyn's Eyes Of The Sun will release their debut album, Chapter I, via Blacklight Media Records. Originally self-released in 2013, Chapter I blends ambient and moody guitars with bouts of double bass driven aggression. This is sludgy doom with an angry edge, and as vocalist/bassist Jeff Blanchard describes: "'Chapter I' is all about the demise and destruction we do to our planet and to ourselves."

To preview Chapter I, the album track "Walks Of Life" can be heard below. Pre-order the album and hear the song "My War" here.

Chapter I tracklisting:

"My War"
"When It Dies"

"Choke"
"End Of Origin"
"Nineteen"

"Walks Of Life":

Eyes Of The Sun was conceived in early 2007 by bassist/vocalist Jeff Blanchard. Long-time friend Miguel De Jesus Jr. joined the ranks with Jeff a few months later on guitar. Within a few years, and after a couple of past members on second guitar and drums, Chris O'Neil joined as the permanent drummer. As a trio, they performed countless shows over the past 10 years, delivering their unique brand of doom metal - which leaves listeners with a range of emotions, that the band themselves then experience and extract from. The band explains: "It is known throughout the laws of science and nature that the sun creates and sustains life...Now it stands witness to the atrocities, depletion and vile consumption manifested by mankind, which it originally sustained life for. In our way, we portray what is seen through the Eyes Of The Sun."

BULLET: 'Ain't Enough' Video Released

BULLET: 'Ain't Enough' Video Released

Swedish metallers BULLET will release their new album, "Dust To Gold", on April 20 via Steamhammer/SPV.

The official video for the disc's first singe, "Ain't Enough", can be seen below.

If you want to understand how BULLET works, you only have to take one look at the ancient tour bus that the five musicians have been conquering the world with for years. The black, white and red 1964 Volvo B63508, lovingly referred to as the "Bullet Bus," with its indestructible six-cylinder engine and countless miles under its frayed seats, the band's mobile hotel. Mind you: perhaps hotel isn't quite the operative word, (youth) hostel would be more to the point, the van's interior having accumulated an attractive odour composed of petrol, sweat, beer and a diverse range of tobacco blends in its interior.

"In the years that we've been travelling from show to show in our van and have visited countless festivals, our Bullet Bus has never let us down," guitarist Hampus Klang phrases a kind of declaration of love to the vintage vehicle that features on the cover of the group's latest album "Dust To Gold" for a good reason. "The Volvo has more than earned its place on the front cover, because in its own way it's just like we are: hard as nails, resilient and full of priceless memories."

The Bullet Bus as a synonym for a band philosophy that could hardly be more compelling. BULLET from Växjö has been on the metal scene since 2001, released five excellent studio albums to date, toured most European countries several times, opened for AC/DC in front of 55,000 people in 2009 and played some of Europe's most prestigious festivals, such as Rock Am Ring, Graspop Metal Meeting, Sweden Rock, Bang Your Head!!!, Rock Hard, Keep It True, Headbangers Open Air and Wacken Open Air (twice!). The band has eaten dirt in the true sense of the word and transformed it into musical gold, as their programmatic album title hints.

"Our new songs are about life on the road, about freedom, adventure and the endless fun that passionate metal bands have," Hampus Klang explains. Their love of their lives as musicians oozes from every single note, be it the fast-paced opener "Speed And Attack" in classic NWOBHM style, the powerful singalong anthem "Fuel The Fire" or the cool, grooving midtempo track "Wildfire" that AC/DC couldn't have done better.

"Dust To Gold" was mixed and produced from August to December 2017 at the Pama Studios in Torsås, Sweden by BULLET and Mankan Sedenberg, who consciously used an analogue tape machine to give the recording a warm sound. Hampus is extremely happy with the result. "We spent much more time on the songwriting than we did with previous albums," he says. "The whole production took a bit longer this time but we think it was worth it. We wanted an album where every song is a great one, totally without fillers. We also worked hard to make the sound as honest and authentic as possible and it sounds a lot more like we do live."

"Dust To Gold" track listing:

01. Speed And Attack
02. Ain't Enough
03. Rogue Soldier
04. Fuel The Fire
05. One More Round
06. Highway Love
07. Wildfire
08. Screams In The Night
09. Forever Rise
10. The Prophecy
11. Hollow Grounds
12. Dust To Gold

Gustav Hector (bass)
Hell Hofer (vocals)
Gustav Hjortsjö (drums)

JUDAS PRIEST: Official Lyric Video For New Song 'Never The Heroes'

JUDAS PRIEST: Official Lyric Video For New Song 'Never The Heroes'

The official lyric video for "Never The Heroes", a brand new song from British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST, can be seen below. The track is taken from the band's new album, "Firepower", which will be released on March 9 via Epic. The follow-up to 2014's "Redeemer Of Souls" was recorded by British producer Andy Sneap, the band's longtime collaborator Tom Allom and engineer Mike Exeter (BLACK SABBATH). The cover artwork for "Firepower" was created by the Chilean/Italian digital artist and photographer Claudio Bergamin.

PRIEST said in a statement: "'Never The Heroes' is about the courageous men and women that enter war. Never trained to be heroes, but becoming heroic due to their actions and sacrifices doing their duty for their people and country. It resonates, as there is a hero in all of us, and in times of struggle we can be strong and united, conquering our own challenges and helping others."

"Firepower" track listing:

01. Firepower
02. Lightning Strike
03. Evil Never Dies
04. Never The Heroes
05. Necromancer
06. Children of the Sun
07. Guardians
08. Rising From Ruins
09. Flame Thrower
10. Spectre
11. Traitors Gate
12. No Surrender
13. Lone Wolf
14. Sea Of Red

Asked by the WSOU 89.5 FM radio station if "Firepower" is a "heavier" record than 2014's "Redeemer Of Souls", JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Richie Faulkner said: "I think 'heavy' means so many different things — it could be heavy in terms of sound, it could be heavy in terms of speed, it could be heavy in terms of lyrical content. So it's hard to know what someone's interpretation of 'heavy' means. But I think it's a more energetic record — I think there's more fire in it — which is one of the reasons why 'Firepower' was a relevant title to call the record. It's got that kind of intensity. I don't think 'Redeemer' was lacking in that respect, but this one's definitely got more of it. It's got fast stuff, it's got groovier stuff."

JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Glenn Tipton announced two weeks ago that he will be sitting out the band's touring activities as a result of his battle with Parkinson's disease, with which he was diagnosed a decade ago.

Tipton, who is now 70 and has performed on every PRIEST album since the band's 1974's debut set, "Rocka Rolla", is not quitting the band, but simply cannot handle to rigorous challenges of performing live. Joining PRIEST for its upcoming dates will be Sneap, a former member of SABBAT who has most recently played with HELL.

The North American leg of the "Firepower" tour will kick off on March 13 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania and will wrap on May 1 in San Antonio, Texas. Support on the trek will come from SAXON and BLACK STAR RIDERS.

SAMMY HAGAR Sells Oceanside Hawaiian Retreat For $3.3 Million

SAMMY HAGAR Sells Oceanside Hawaiian Retreat For $3.3 Million

According to TMZ, Sammy Hagar sold an oceanfront villa in Hawaii for $3.299 million. The former VAN HALEN frontman bought the ten-acre retreat in 1995.

Set on the edge of a cliff in Waipio Bay, the property holds a three-bedroom home, a guesthouse, a pool with a lanscaped center island and a tiki bar. The grounds also include a 1,000-square-foot garage. In addition, Hagar has installed a few outdoor projects, including a tilapia pond and a 400-foot-deep well.

"It's like island living inside the house," Hagar said. "This place is like a painting."

"The well is dug right into the middle of volcanic rock," he added. "It'll heal you. It feels that good to drink."

Check out photos of the property at LATimes.com.

Sammy in 2016 sold one of two homes he owned on the Hawaiian island of Maui to the Montessori Hale O Keiki school.

Hagar is a Grammy-winning singer and songwriter who has sold more than 80 million albums during his four decades as a solo artist and frontman for bands including MONTROSE, VAN HALEN, CHICKENFOOT and THE CIRCLE. He was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame with VAN HALEN in 2007, is also a New York Times bestselling author, host of the TV series "Rock & Roll Road Trip With Sammy Hagar", restaurateur and spirits entrepreneur. He turned his love for Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and hand-crafted tequila into an empire with the Cabo Wabo Cantinas And Tequila and has since added nine restaurants throughout the United States, the award-winning Sammy's Beach Bar Rum, and in 2017 launched a new Santo Mezquila with Adam Levine.

Video Premiere: AT THE GATES' 'To Drink From The Night Itself'

Video Premiere: AT THE GATES' 'To Drink From The Night Itself'

The official video for "To Drink From The Night Itself", the title track of the new album from Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES, can be seem below. The clip was directed by Patric Ullaeus, who has previously worked with IN FLAMES, ARCH ENEMY and DIMMU BORGIR, among others.

AT THE GATES frontman Tomas Lindberg comments: "So, for the first song to present to the public, we chose the title track of the album, which is also the opening track of the record. To us, this gives a presentation of the attitude of the album: raw, hungry and desperate. It also gives an introduction to the whole concept of the record.

"We live through our art, and the whole album deals with the concept of art. Art as a tool either for revolution, or suppression. To drink from the night itself is just that, a metaphor for living and breathing through art. Of course, the concept goes deeper than that, but this song is the heart of the concept, the fierce call to arms so to say. We are still at war, but this time we are fighting the abyss, the abyss of apathy and oppression. It is an aggressive song, but also contains a lot of the other elements of the band's sound on this record. Melancholia, desperation and struggle.

"For the first video, we chose to use Patric Ullaeus again, as he is good at capturing the raw energy of the band playing live. In the video you can also see glimpses of the art used for the cover, so it binds it all together nicely."

"To Drink From The Night Itself" will be released on May 18 via Century Media. Produced with Russ Russell (NAPALM DEATH, THE HAUNTED, DIMMU BORGIR) at Parlour Studios in the U.K., the follow-up 2014's "At War With Reality" will feature conceptual artwork created by Twilight 13 Media's Costin Chioreanu, who previously worked with AT THE GATES on the band's last disc.

Lindberg comments: "It has once again been an absolute pleasure working creativily with Costin.

"We had a lot of ideas for what we wanted to get across with the art this time around. Overall they were, not surprisingly, related to the general concept of the record.

"What is great with Costin is that he understands the band. He knows what we are and where we come from. And me and him also have a strong artistic connection.

"I have never met anyone that goes so deep into the world of my lyrics and concepts. When I first wrote to him describing my ideas, I was worried that my remarks were perhaps too long and too confusing, only to get back an even longer and very inspired response…

"The inspiration for the actual front cover piece is taken from the Pergamon Altar, on display at the Pergamon museum in Berlin. It is, of course, linked closely to the concept that the whole record is based upon, but more on that later. But I will throw a name out there, for the interested ones; Peter Weiss.

"I can't wait to get the whole record in my hands now, as this is just one of the many great artwork pieces that Costin has created for us on 'To Drink From The Night Itself'..."

"To Drink From The Night Itself" track listing:

01. Der Widerstand
02. To Drink From The Night Itself
03. A Stare Bound In Stone
04. Palace Of Lepers
05. Daggers Of Black Haze
06. The Chasm
07. In Nameless Sleep
08. The Colours Of The Beast
09. A Labyrinth Of Tombs
10. Seas Of Starvation
11. In Death They Shall Burn
12. The Mirror Black

Lindberg recently spoke to Decibel magazine about how the departure of longtime AT THE GATES guitarist and primary songwriter Anders Björler has affected the band's sound. "It is true that there is a big shift in the lineup," he said. "What you have to take into consideration is that Jonas Björler [bass] wrote 40 percent of both 'Slaughter Of The Soul' and 'At War With Reality'. Some people seem to forget this. They just assume that the lead guitarist is the sole songwriter. Jonas had to take a lot more responsibility this time around, but me and him have had a really great and creative time writing this album. There is a slight change of direction, maybe, but AT THE GATES fans shouldn't be worried — it is still an AT THE GATES record. If anything, it is heavier and more death metal than the last one."

Lindberg said that new AT THE GATES guitarist Jonas Stålhammar came into the band too late to be involved in the composing process for the new disc. "This one is basically Jonas [Björler] and me when it comes to the writing. All the guys have contributed in some way, but the main writing comes from Jonas and me. Most of the songs were already in the finishing stages when Jonas Stålhammar joined, so there wasn't much time for him to contribute, but we look forward to having him more involved next time around. Saying that, his solos will, of course, be written by himself."

AT THE GATES 2018 is (left to right in photo):

Adrian Erlandsson - Drums
Jonas Björler - Bass

Jonas Stålhammar - Guitar
