NIGHT RANGER

NIGHT RANGER's KELLY KEAGY Takes Leave Of Absence Following Successful Heart Procedure

Kelly Keagy, the drummer, co-lead vocalist and co-founder of long-running rock band NIGHT RANGER, is taking a temporary leave of absence from the band during April and May, as he recovers from a successful heart procedure. Veteran drummers Deen Castronovo (formerly of JOURNEY and BAD ENGLISH) and Fred Coury (CINDERELLA) will sit in for Keagy for the next six weeks during the "35th Anniversary World Tour", which coincides with the release of the band's eleventh studio album, "Don't Let Up". Keagy issued the following statement: "I've dealt with a heart abnormality my entire life. At the recommendation of my doctors, I decided to undergo a procedure that will allow me to come back even stronger. I've asked the guys in the band to go ahead with the tour, and I'm looking forward to rejoining them on the road as soon as I can. I'm grateful for the support and prayers of my family, my bandmates, and our fans, which have meant everything to me as I've gone through this process." Keagy is now at home continuing his recovery, which is expected to take six weeks. NIGHT RANGER's Jack Blades (lead vocals, bass), Brad Gillis (lead and rhythm guitars), Keri Kelli (lead and rhythm guitars), and Eric Levy (keyboards) issued the following statement: "We support and applaud Kelly's decision to put his health first and undergo this treatment now so he can be back at full strength as quickly as possible. While it will be strange being out on the road without our brother Kelly for the first time in the band's history, we take comfort in knowing it's a temporary situation, and he'll be back soon even stronger to continue the '35th Anniversary World Tour'. "We're grateful to our buddies Deen and Fred, for agreeing to step in as guest drummers for NIGHT RANGER during Kelly's short hiatus (Deen will perform at the May shows and Fred will perform at the April shows). They've both been good friends of the band for years, and it'll be great to be rockin' America with them while Kelly recuperates. "We know our fans join us in sending their thoughts and prayers to Kelly and his family as he recovers from his procedure, and we look forward to reuniting with him on the road very soon as we celebrate the release of 'Don't Let Up' and the '35th Anniversary World Tour' rolls on."

KIX Guitarist RONNIE YOUNKINS Headed Back To Rehab

KIX Guitarist RONNIE YOUNKINS Headed Back To Rehab

KIX guitarist Ronnie Younkins will once again be checking in to rehab to be treated for alcohol abuse, his bandmates have revealed.

Younkins missed a KIX concert in Pennsylvania last month when the rest of the band was unable to reach him. He was eventually found "not in great condition and very upset," according to TMZ.

In a new statement posted on the KIX Facebook page, the group wrote: "Thank you for your concern about our dear friend Ronnie. Our hearts and prayers go out to him and his family, and we wish him the best on his continued journey toward recovery.

"As we all well know, the road to recovery is not easy, but with the support of family, friends, and fans too, this difficult time becomes just a little easier to manage.

"Ronnie is currently headed to a rehab facility and will be in good hands. Brian will once again fill Ronnie's shoes until Ronnie is ready to return to KIX, to his side of the stage, which is waiting for him."

In a December 2015 interview with the Rock N Roll Experience, KIX guitarist Brian Forsythe confirmed that Younkins went back to rehab earlier that year to receive treatment for alcohol addiction. Forsythe said at the time: "[Ronnie returned to rehab] for a little bit — for a month and a half, two months. He did kind of a refresher course. He had been sober for a long time and then had this relapse, so we had to stick him back in there just to get him back on track."

KIX frontman Steve Whiteman told Sleaze Roxx two years ago that Younkins's substance abuse problems date back to the early '80s when the guitarist was briefly replaced by Brad Divens. "Ronnie has an addictive personality," Steve explained. "Ronnie has had his battles with drug problems throughout his life, and at that point, he was of no good to us, so we had to find a replacement for that period of time. Brad was a young guy in the area and we moulded him into what we needed for another guitar player. So he came in and did a great job and recorded 'Cool Kids' with us. And then we got wind that Ronnie had recovered and gotten better. It just felt weird not having Ronnie in the band. So when we knew that he was ready to come back, we got him back and cut Brad loose and set him off to — what's the name of the band? — WRATHCHILD AMERICA was his next band. And he did quite well after that.'

Younkins, a founding member of KIX, told The Frederick News-Post in a 2014 interview that he had been abusing hard drugs and alcohol for a while before he hit his rock bottom while the band was promoting its 1988 album "Blow My Fuse". "My drinking and drugging went overboard," he said. The guitarist checked himself in to rehab, an experience that turned his life around. Out on tour, he played gigs at night and attended addiction meetings during the day. "I took it seriously," he said. "And it saved my life."

Last October, KIX released the "Can't Stop The Show: The Return Of Kix" two-disc DVD/CD set via Loud & Proud Records. The 71-minute film was an in-depth look into KIX's decision to record their first new album, 2014's "Rock Your Face Off", in almost twenty years.

To all our fans:Thank you for your concern about our dear friend Ronnie. Our hearts and prayers go out to him and his...

CANDLEBOX Continue To Fly High With New Single “Crazy”

CANDLEBOX Continue To Fly High With New Single “Crazy”

The last year has been quite a ride for legendary rock band Candlebox. Not only did they come out swinging with the April 2016 release of Disappearing In Airports (Pavement Entertainment), which debuted among the Top 10 of the Top Rock Albums, and netted them the hit single “Vexatious” but they also went on to conquer both the U.S. and Europe with a relentless tour schedule that brought in an entirely new generation of Candlebox fans.

Now, about to embark on the anniversary of their comeback, the band that refuses to slow down has announced that they and Pavement Entertainment have teamed up with Record Store Day 2017 to release Disappearing Live. The first official live Candlebox CD, this seven-song EP was recorded in Long Island, NY from the uber successful Disappearing in Airports tour. And as a special bonus to fans, an exclusive live rendition of the band’s multi-platinum hit “Far Behind” has been included.

The EP was recorded and produced by renowned sound engineer Carlos Novais and mixed by bassist/engineer/mixer Adam Kury. Featured on the album are lead singer/guitarist Kevin Martin, Drummer Dave Krusen, who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Pearl Jam, Bassist Adam Kury, Lead Guitarist Brian Quinn and Guitarist Island Styles.

In addition to “Far Behind”, the EP includes the following tracks:

“Vexatious”
“Supernova”
“Crazy”
“I Want It Back”
“All That We Got”
“The Bridge”

Disappearing Live EP Digi-pack will be available starting April 22 at participating Record Store Day locations. For a list, visit http://www.recordstoreday.com. The EP will then be available on May 22 as a special bundle with a commemorative T-shirt on Pavement Entertainment’s web site (http://www.pavementmusic.com) and on all major digital platforms starting in June.

To celebrate the release of Disappearing Live, Candlebox has announced that it will also be releasing its third single “Crazy” to Mainstream Rock and Alternative Rock Radio. The track is streaming NOW at the BraveWords Featured Audio page. The follow up to the album’s single “Vexatious”, Martin describes the track as a song about obsession.

“It’s about the position that a lot of people find themselves in at some point in their lives”, Martin said. “That place where they want something physical that they necessarily couldn’t have but pursue it anyway. It’s about that unrelenting desire to always have more than we should.”

The release of their new EP and single aren’t the only things that will keep Candlebox busy this summer. According to Martin, the band will be performing at some of the largest venues and rock music festivals throughout the U.S.

METALLICA

METALLICA's KIRK HAMMETT Says 'Lulu' Is One Of 'Most Important Albums' He Has Ever Been A Part Of

METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett has once again defended "Lulu", the band's controversial collaborative disc with Lou Reed, calling it "one of the most important albums" he has ever been a part of.

"Lulu" polarized fans around the world and earned METALLICA some of the most scathing reviews of its career. The effort featured the late THE VELVET UNDERGROUND frontman's spoken-word poetry and lyrics combined with METALLICA's musical assault for a jarring experience that didn't sound like anything METALLICA had ever attempted before.

More than five years since its release, "Lulu" has only sold around 35,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Speaking to Chile's HumoNegro.com, Kirk said about "Lulu" (see video below): "I think it's one of the best things we've ever done. I mean, you can kind of call it a METALLICA album, but it's not really a METALLICA album. I think that's part of the reason why it's so misunderstood. People were thinking it was gonna be an album of heavy metal songs with Lou Reed, but no — it was a collaboration. It was our two musical entities coming together to build something fresh and new and unique. And the fact that it turned out so unique was, I think, a huge success. And I love it. I still listen to it. I miss Lou; it's a shame that he's not with us anymore. But in retrospect, that's one of the most important albums, I think, I've been a part of in my life. So that's how I feel about it."

In a 2012 interview with Spin, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich admitted that the band was caught off guard by the vehement reaction to "Lulu", saying, "It was more spiteful than anyone was prepared for. Especially against Lou. He is such a sweet man. But when METALLICA do impulsive riffing and Lou Reed is reciting abstract poetry about German bohemians from 150 years ago, it can be difficult to embrace." Asked whether the band had second thoughts over some of Reed's lyrics, like "I swallow your sharpest cutter / Like a colored man's dick," Ulrich said, "I understand that to some 13-year-old in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, it can all seem a little cringe-worthy, but to someone raised in an art community in Copenhagen in the late '60s, that was expected."

The collaboration between METALLICA and Reed was sparked by their performance together of Reed's "Sweet Jane" and "White Light/White Heat" at the 25th anniversary of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at Madison Square Garden in October of 2009.

The songs were all written by Reed with extensive arrangement contributions by METALLICA.

Only two songs on the album are under five minutes in length, while two are more than 11 minutes long and the closing cut, "Junior Dad", clocks in at 19 minutes.

Reed died in October 2013 at the age of 71, five months after he had a life-saving liver transplant, according to his wife, Laurie Anderson.

PREVAIL Release “Exterminate The Weak” Video

Prevail delivers groovy death metal directly from the darkest parts of Jutland Denmark. The experienced five-piece - including former members of Svartsot, recently released their debut album through Prime Collective.

Now they are releasing a music video for their first single "Smiting Our Enemy". With a tornado of leg crushing guitar riffs and technical ability fused with lyrics that address topics and stories about the darker side of the human mind, they present to you a very controversial music video, which includes the executions of major political characters.

The production of the album is thick, chaotic and crystal clear and is recorded and mixed in the legendary Hansen Studios by Jonas Haagensen.

Their debut album is available on most digital streaming services - Spotify, Tidal, iTunes, and others.

Vincent recently told Ghost Cult about I AM MORBID: "It's been discussed off and on for a few years now, but, as they say, actions speak louder than words. While it was exciting to discuss, it was held off for a few years until I decided to go through some personal changes in my life, and really absorb the possibility of it happening. I went ahead and focused on my roots music, but this kept lingering, and now it's time for I AM MORBID to finally happen."

Regarding the I AM MORBID setlist, Vincent said: "Like everything I do, I want to make this special. This is very different from MORBID ANGEL. If you want to see a MORBID ANGEL show, you know where to go, but this isn't it. I'm only going to be performing songs that I wrote on this tour. If I didn't write it, we aren't playing it. We are going to throw in things, here or there, to make things more unique, but it's going to be one brutal show. I can promise you that."

GOD DETHRONED Launch "The World Ablaze" Video

GOD DETHRONED Launch "The World Ablaze" Video

On May 5th, Dutch death metallers God Dethroned will release their new album The World Ablaze worldwide via Metal Blade Records; it can be pre-ordered here.

The band has just unleashed a video for the brand new second single and title track "The World Ablaze", which can be seen below. Comments vocalist / guitarist Henri Sattler: "This song is a mix between epic melodies and fast but catchy riffs and a song where Mike Ferguson shows off his skills as a lead guitar player. The lyrics deal with the war then, but can also be projected on the current situation in the world."

God Dethroned comments: "The World Ablaze is our final album in the WWI trilogy. We aimed to create an album that is very dynamic and diverse. It contains typical GD riffing with loads of melodies and catchy hooks. The songs are perfect for our live shows as they contain many mid-tempo parts combined with faster and more brutal parts. Diversity to the max! Dan Swano mixed the album in his typical fashion but without robbing the band of its own identity. Mastering was handled at the Wisseloord Studios where they also mastered albums for bands like Rammstein, among many others, and they put the icing on the cake. The album sounds crystal clear and heavy as fuck at the same time. We are very proud to present this album during our upcoming Serpent Fest album release shows early May!"

The World Ablaze tracklisting:

“A Call To Arms”
“Annihilation Crusade”

RAMMSTEIN: Making Of

RAMMSTEIN: Making Of 'Paris' Concert DVD And Blu-Ray - Part 1 (Video)

The first of three webisodes featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the making of "Paris", the new concert DVD and Blu-ray from German industrial metallers RAMMSTEIN, can be seen below. Due on May 19, the set was recorded in March 2012 at the then-named Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in Paris (now AccorHotels Arena) during RAMMSTEIN's "Made In Germany" tour, and was helmed by the band's longtime collaborator, Swedish director Jonas Åkerlund. Åkerlund has also worked with METALLICA, SATYRICON, MADONNA and THE PRODIGY, among others.

21 years down the line, with the original lineup, the six East Berliners stand at the very apex of the rock world, achieving album and DVD sales in the millions, headlining festivals and major venues around the world and selling out shows in record time (the band's bill-topping appearance at New York's Madison Square Garden saw the 20,000 seats snapped up in just 20 minutes!) Trafalgar Releasing had worldwide rights to "Paris" excluding Germany, Austria and Switzerland (which were distributed by NFP). The top-performing territories for Trafalgar Releasing were Russia, Latin America and Poland, helping to achieve over $1 million for the outfit. NFP's territories saw a grossing of almost $1.2 million across two screening dates, coming in second on Germany's weekend box office. "Paris" has become one of Trafalgar Releasing's top music events following the worldwide screenings of "Roger Waters: The Wall" (which made almost $5 million at the global box office with top performing territories including Italy, Latin America, Czech Republic, France and Germany) and "One More Time With Feeling With Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds" (from acclaimed director Andrew Dominik, which achieved over $2.2 million). 2017 has also seen Trafalgar Releasing (in partnership with CinEvents) screen across the U.K. and selected European territories, a targeted release of "Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars" (alongside a new interview with the drummer from David Bowie's band produced by MOJO magazine), which made an impressive $240,000 from just 200 screens. Marc Allenby, CEO of Trafalgar Releasing, has said on the success: "It was great to work so closely with RAMMSTEIN's management team on the release of 'Paris' — they helped us talk directly to the passionate fan base of the band, who came out to celebrate this truly unique event. We look forward to working on similar kinds of projects in the future and bringing music events to the big screen around the world."

Canada's DOOM MACHINE - New Album Due In June

Canada's DOOM MACHINE - New Album Due In June

Atlantic Canada's Doom Machine returns with their fourth full-length album June 2nd. Comprised of two EPs: Let There Be Doom and Vol. 4.5, the band promises this is the best material they have ever written.

"We really hit a home run with these songs," says frontman and primary songwriter Bill Arsenault. "A lot of these songs were from ideas left over from the writing of our last album. The whole idea of doing the two EPs is that one would be focused and follow where we started heading with Written In Stone, and the second EP would be songs that don't follow that direction. It was a great way to include all the ideas while having it make sense."

In addition to the release, there will be a second bonus disc Decade Of Doom, which will commemorate the band's 10th anniversary and will feature 13 re-recorded tracks from their first three albums. "Once we knew we were going to have this kind of sound quality we agreed to do the re-recordings. Finally these songs have the recording quality that we feel they deserve. If you were to own only one of our albums, this one is it." Drummer Jason Reeves adds "It's definitely way better than our other stuff... no comparison."

The band is having their CD release June 2nd in Halifax, Nova Scotia and are performing at this year's Maritime Metal and Hard Rock Festival 5th Year Bash in Windsor, Nova Scotia July 28th and 29th.

SUFFOCATION: Official 360-Degree Visualizer Video For New Song

SUFFOCATION: Official 360-Degree Visualizer Video For New Song 'Your Last Breaths'

The official 360-degree visualizer video for the song "Your Last Breaths" from New York death metallers SUFFOCATION can be seen below. The track is taken from the band's upcoming album, "...Of The Dark Light", which will be released on June 9 via Nuclear Blast Records. The disc was produced by SUFFOCATION and tracked at Full Force Studios with longtime engineer Joe Cincotta (OBITUARY). Mixing and mastering was handled by world-renowned producer/engineer Chris "Zeuss" Harris (HATEBREED, ARSIS, SUICIDE SILENCE). Cover artwork was created by Colin Marks (ORIGIN, FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, KATAKLYSM).

Comments founding guitarist Terrance Hobbs: "The moment we have been waiting for is here. Our new album, '...Of The Dark Light', will finally be released through Nuclear Blast on June 9, 2017! Over the last four-year period SUFFOCATION has taken its time to write this record and we couldn't be prouder. It is our most brutal record yet!

"SUFFOCATION worked through the end of 2016 to hash out and lay down the tracks at Full Force Studios with Joe Cincotta and once again enlisted Zeuss to bring this creation to life! Myself, Frank Mullen, Charles Errigo, Eric Morotti and Derek Boyer have all pushed the limit of what SUFFOCATION is and we hope you enjoy it!

"We also had the honor of having Colin Marks handling our artwork which is a new frontier for us and a different avenue and style to the traditional SUFFOCATION records. We also including some backup vocals from Kevin Muller (THE MERCILESS CONCEPT) which for us makes this album very unique! This will be our tenth studio release and we really hope you like '...Of The Dark Light'! Keep the grind alive and hope to see you on the road!"

"...Of The Dark Light" track listing:

01. Clarity Through Deprivation02. The Warmth Within The Dark03. Your Last Breaths04. Return To The Abyss05. The Violation06. Of The Dark Light07. Some Things Should Be Left Alone08. Caught Between Two Worlds09. Epitaph Of The Credulous

SUFFOCATION will embark on a U.S. tour with MORBID ANGEL and REVOCATION in late May.

Reactivated PESTILENCE Signs With HAMMERHEART RECORDS

Reactivated PESTILENCE Signs With HAMMERHEART RECORDS

Veteran Dutch extreme metallers PESTILENCE have inked a deal with Hammerheart Records. The band will enter the studio in June to begin recording its new album, "Hadeon", for a late 2017 release.

Hammerheart has also come to an agreement on the PESTILENCE back catalog, but plans are still in the works to get all details finalized concerning these essential recordings ("Malleus Maleficarum", "Consuming Impulse", "Testimony Of The Ancients" and "Spheres"). It is hoped that those records will be reissued as deluxe 2-CDs and LPs later this year 2017.

Joining vocalist/guitarist Patrick Mameli in the band's current lineup are Santiago Dobles (AGHORA) on lead guitar and Septimiu Hărşan (DISAVOWED) on drums.

Although Alan Goldstein was previously announced as PESTILENCE's new bassist, Mameli explained on April 9 that Alan will no longer be involved with the group "due to differences within the business realm."

Asked by a fan on Facebook why bassist Tony Choy — whose return to PESTILENCE was announced last October — is not involved with the band anymore, Mameli responded: "Choy's out. I only work with professional people."

In July 2014, Mameli announced that PESTILENCE was "on a permanent hold" while he concentrated fully on his new NEUROMORPH project, which he said would be "more brutal, more crazy, more tech, more futuristic and more death" than his longtime outfit.

PESTILENCE's seventh album, "Obsideo", was released in November 2013 via Candlelight Records. The CD was produced by Mameli and featured ten new songs. According to Mameli, the album's overall lyrical theme was "the journey of the human soul."

In a 2013 interview with Live Reviewer, Mameli said that it was his "passion" that motivated him to keep PESTILENCE alive after all these years. He explained at the time: "I think we can still contribute to the death metal community. PESTILENCE has always been my passion since I formed the band. It feels like a child that's grown up now. If I would run out of ideas, that would be the end."

Mameli also dismissed constant calls for a reunion with early PESTILENCE bassist/vocalist Martin Van Drunen, who sang on the band's classic albums "Malleus Maleficarum" (1988) and "Consuming Impulse" (1989). He said: "It's been 25 years. We try to become better musicians all the time. I think we deserve some credit for always looking ahead and trying to be innovative."

MISS MAY I To Release

MISS MAY I To Release 'Shadows Inside' Album In June; 'Lost In The Grey' Video Available

"Lost In The Grey", the new video from Ohio metallers MISS MAY I, can be seen below. The clip was directed by Ramon Boutviseth, who has previously worked with ASKING ALEXANDRIA and VEIL OF MAYA, among others.

"Lost In The Grey" is taken from MISS MAY I's upcoming album, "Shadows Inside", which will be released on June 2 via SharpTone Records. The disc was co-produced by Drew Fulk (MOTIONLESS IN WHITE, EMMURE, CROWN THE EMPIRE) and Nick Sampson (ASKING ALEXANDRIA, BORN OF OSIRIS). Andrew Wade (A DAY TO REMEMBER, THE WORD ALIVE, NECK DEEP) handled all mixing duties.

MISS MAY I vocalist Levi Benton states: "Our new video for 'Lost In The Grey' was by far the most extreme video we have ever done! The shoot involved an entire forest landscape set, live action volatile weather elements and rodents in mouths. We have never had a video like this before. The vibe for the song is really captured well and sets a great image not only for the song, but the record as a whole.

"'Shadows Inside' is the most honest record we have ever created and a big part of that was just having the freedom and time to put everything we had into it.

"This is a great first track to release to the mass as it represents the effort it takes to get out of the complacent and stale life people live. The song is about finding that hope and drive to push you to a new and better life. The lion has always represented hope and ambition and now with this video it's physical and represented as a mask that one needs to show them there is a better life for everyone, if you push for it."

According to a press release, "Shadows Inside" "doubles as monster riff-fest and forcefully vocal driven statement shaped by changes both within and without. Make no mistake, this isn't an about-face album full of contrived sentiment or glossy emptiness. It's a record where the band challenged each other to work from outside of their comfort zone, to really hone in on what makes MISS MAY I vital, and deliver something fully authentic and raw."

MISS MAY I will kick off their European run in support of THY ART IS MURDER and BEING AS AN OCEAN, dubbed "The Heaven And Hell Tour", on Sunday, April 16. Their first appearance on the Impericon Festivals 2017 is today in Vienna, Austria.

SARCASM Release “Scars Of A Land Forgotten” Music Video

SARCASM Release “Scars Of A Land Forgotten” Music Video

Swedish death metallers, Sarcasm, have released a video for “Scars Of A Land Forgotten”, the track from the new album, Within The Sphere Of Ethereal Minds, to be released April 28th via Dark Descent Records. Watch the new clip below.

Following the unearthing of their first proper full-length, Burial Dimensions (originally recorded in 1994 and officially released in 2016), the new long player is in a sense the payoff of a long, bumpy history that included demos, compilations, and an EP (Scattered Ashes in 2000). Indeed, it is the full realization of Sarcasm's blackened Swedish death metal sound, yet with an identity all its own.

While the music of all eight tracks was written by guitarist Peter Laitinen, he somehow did find that perfect balance in between that very specific sense of melody that could only be summarized as “typically Swedish” (fans of the early No Fashion records catalogue will know exactly what we mean here), raging speed and brutality. With one foot firmly planted in the mid-‘90s and another in the present, Sarcasm is no nostalgia trip, but a genuine return to form to that specific mix of black and death-metal. Moving from the melancholic leads of "Embodiment Of Source," they answer with the blast-o-thon that is "Scars Of A Land Forgotten" or the epic-to-kill-all-epic that is the eight-minute-plus "A Black Veil For Earth."

Tracklisting:

“Bloodsoaked Sunrise”
“From The Crimson Fog They Emerged”
“Embodiment Of Source”
“Scars Of A Land Forgotten”
“In The Grip Of Awakening Times”
“Silent Waves Summoned Your Inner Being”
“A Black Veil For Earth”
“The Drowning Light At The Edge Of The Dawn”

Strike Mortal Soil is available for pre-order at this location.

"To go from recording a demo over a couple days in a sweaty jam space to putting out an LP on Prosthetic within a year and a half... it's just not something we could have realistically expected," remarks the band, "It's got our fingerprints all over it. If something was possible to do ourselves, we did it, down to mixing and artwork."

Tracklisting:

"As Above"
"Howling From The Grave"
"Weregild"
"Even The Sun Will Die"
"Relentless Death"
"Cerulean Abyss"
"Everlasting Lie"
"...And Smote His Ruin Upon The Mountainside"
"Mantle Of Ignorance"
"So Below"

"Even The Sun Will Die”:

"Everlasting Lie" video;

Thematically, Strike Mortal Soil is about being alive and what that means in today's society. The band elaborated, "We live in a society both obsessed with and terrified of death. We exist in a world constantly seeking immortality through fame or Gods. Strike Mortal Soil means to live with a furious passion. It is to be able to enter one's grave like lightning, in rejection of eternity. It enforces the message that life has worth, not from your nationality, your land, your God or your flesh, but what you do with yourself."

DYSTOPIA Streaming New Track “Black Death”

DYSTOPIA Streaming New Track “Black Death”

Dutch black metallers Dystopia will release their second full-length album, Chaos Philosophorum, on April 21st. The band has now unveiled the second track, entitled “Black Death”.

The band had the following to say about the track: “”Black Death” explores the idea of what it means to live in a dystopia. It's about the thought that a dystopic society can't only exist because of a corrupt government, but it can also materialize by the absence of one. What happens when your leaders die because of the black plague? What happens when nobody knows what to do and the structure of civilization falls apart? It is a mixture of doom and fleeting hope and the music reflects that."

The album was recorded at Studio Helvete in Den Helder, mixed by Thomas Cochrane of TC Music Productions and finally mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Nails, Hooded Menace, Oathbreaker).

The artwork of the follow-up to 2013's Haat was designed by Adam Burke (Mare Cognitum, Mos Generator, Vektor) from Nightjar Illustration.

Dystopia frontman Dennis Onsia commented: "After years of growing and maturing towards our own sound, 'Chaos Philosophorum' feels like the first serious step in our own direction. This album represents us one hundred percent, both musically and emotionally. It includes influences from a lot of diverse musical genres, but I feel that we succeeded in making this album both original and organic."

Themes on Chaos Philosophorum deal with space, existence and death. "We wanted to combine these concepts in our artwork, so we took the medieval plague doctor as a strong and recognizable symbol of death, and combined it with the almost magical shapes and colors of a galaxy. As if he is casting a spell. The artist Adam Burke did a tremendous job converting our ideas into this artwork."

Tracklisting:

“Intro”
“Through The Vortex”
“Black Death”
“Archon”
“Interlude”
“Bound To Annihilate”

“Through The Vortex”:

The official Chaos Philosophorum release show will take place on April 21st at the renowned Patronaat venue in Haarlem, The Netherlands. More information can be found here.

BLACK SABBATH Perform “Paranoid” Live At Bilzen Pop Festival 1970; Rare Video Streaming

BLACK SABBATH Perform “Paranoid” Live At Bilzen Pop Festival 1970; Rare Video Streaming

Rare footage of Black Sabbath performing their classic track, “Paranoid”, at Beglium’s Bilzen Pop Festival on August 21st, 1970, is now available for streaming below.

Black Sabbath guitar legend Tony Iommi recently spoke with NBC News about his recent haunting choral composition, "How Good It Is”, that he wrote specifically for the Birmingham Cathedral in his hometown of Birmingham, England.

"It really wasn't anything to do with religion," Iommi told NBC News. "I don't follow any religious path…religiously. It just seemed like a nice thing to do. It was really nice to work with a choir and to do something for our city."

"It's brilliant," Iommi answered when asked how he feels about being called the inventor of heavy metal. "I'm very proud that I've been able to do something that's become very popular."

Iommi said his touring days may be over, but he still wants to keep making music. "I'm certainly not retiring from playing and doing stuff," he said. "But I think since my illness I've had to look at things differently, think sensibly. I feel fine, but I still go for checkups and tests and at the moment I'm okay."

He's written a piece for the long-running CSI television series and he's in the process of mixing the sound from the final Sabbath shows in Birmingham for a possible live album. "We'll actually be doing a documentary," he said. "My job at the moment is to have a listen to what we've done."

Iommi says he also he says he has "bags" of riffs he came up with for Black Sabbath that might one day wind up on a solo album.

RIVER BLACK Featuring MUNICIPAL WASTE, REVOCATION, BURNT BY THE SUN Members Streaming New Song “Low”

RIVER BLACK Featuring MUNICIPAL WASTE, REVOCATION, BURNT BY THE SUN Members Streaming New Song “Low”

“Low”, a track from River Black’s upcoming self-titled debut album is available for streaming below. The album will be released on July 7th via Season Of Mist. Pre-orders are available at this location.

River Black deliver the musical equivalent to a diamond-tipped drill to bore breathing-holes into the crusty rusted armour-plating of the metal-genre in order to let some fresh air into the all too often stale scene. Their powerful self-titled debut album impresses with undiluted aggression, precisely executed and dead on target. Based on an intimate knowledge of thrash metal history, the Americans have found a modern answer to this classic style, incorporating suitable elements of death, hardcore, and other influences. This is boosted by a massive sound that drops the bomb in your face.

The expertise that River Black demonstrate in craft and talent does not come out of the blue. Guitarist John Adubato and drummer David Witte (Municipal Waste) formed their new creative outlet after the dissolution of Burnt By The Sun. The veteran duo felt the need to keep the spirit and energy behind that former collective going, while pushing it a darker and heavier direction. To complete their dream team, Witte and Adubato recruited fellow Revocation bassist Brett Bamberger and former Burnt By The Sun collaborator Mike Olender for vocal duties.

On completion of their line-up, River Black recorded their first album at New Jersey’s Trax East studio with producer Eric Rachel. River Black are now ready to drive a vicious spike into the bubble of metallic complacency. Crank up the volume and let River Black hit home hard. Impact is imminent.

Vocalist Mike Olender comments on behalf of River Black: "Our first track out, “Low” is an expression of horror at how religion can become twisted and manipulated by charlatans and demagogues. It was inspired by a news report, I heard about a journalist, who spent some time with the now-deceased Isis leader 'Johnny Jihad'. It revealed how this man used brutality with the purpose of inspiring others with similarly twisted minds. He used videos of his actions as recruiting tools. I was struck by the thought that there are people out there, who not only wouldn't be repelled by these horrific videos, but actually excited and inspired by the images of this man gleefully sawing off the heads of the orange-clad victims kneeling before him. Faiths have always had these characters throughout history, but it is surreal to realize we are living in such dark historic times."

Tracklisting:

“Jaws”
“Honor”
“Low”
“Shipwreck”
“River Black”
“South by South”
“Boat”
“Move”
“#Victim”
“Haunt”
“Sink”

DEF-CON-ONE To Announce New Lineup; Audio Teaser Streaming

DEF-CON-ONE To Announce New Lineup; Audio Teaser Streaming

British metal band Def-Con-One check in with the following update from leader Antton Lant (ex-Venom):

“When the band kind of fell to bits back in February I was gutted, I’ve had this band for 20 years now with a lot of lineup changes over the years, the band only really started to work once I left Venom and put my all into getting things rolling.

“I basically looked after every aspect of the band, from booking all our gigs to getting the record deals the band had etc. I was basically left on my own not knowing what to do, I’ve been inundated with messages from people wanting to join the band or wanting me to join their bands, a couple of quite well known bands too, and lots of messages suggesting I carry on with the band with new people, I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, one thing I definitely did not want is a parody, I didn’t want anyone wanting to sound or look like past members.

“I want people to be themselves, which I’ve definitely found, since I have written most of the stuff since day one it will definitely still sound like Def-Con-One.

“A good friend of mine that I’ve known over 30 years suggested a singer and I sent him a few backing tracks I had and let him do his thing, I was floored when I got them back, it’s very different and very powerful, he doesn’t sound like any of the singers that have gone before him, and it most definitely still sounds like Def-Con-One.

“I put this short clip together and sent it to a chosen few in the industry to get feedback, people I’ve worked with, promoters and DJs, I am over the moon with all the feedback.

“A few people saying similar things about other bands, you know some people like Paul Di’Anno in Maiden, some prefer Bruce, some prefer Blaze, I know people who prefer Dio over Ozzy in Sabbath, or Bon over Brian in AC/DC, it’s all down to taste and I think fans of Def-Con-One will like what they hear.

“Here is a short clip of an old track called “Brute Force And Ignorance”; it’s the old backing with a new vocal over it. Full 2017 lineup will be announced soon with photos, etc.”
