SAIGON KICK Guitarist JASON BIELER Releases New OWL STRETCHING Track "A Girl Named Hollow"Saigon Kick guitarist Jason Bieler has released another new song via his Owl Stretching side-project. He has posted the following update:
Hope this Friday finds you filled with joyous wonder anticipating an adventure soaked weekend. New music straight from the Baron Von Bielski audio propulsion lab in Helsinki a song called 'A Girl Named Hollow'. Hope you enjoy it. As always thanks for all the continued support! Plus I have a new FB fan page up at this location should you feel like wandering over."
A Girl Named Hollow by Owl Stretching
Earlier this year, Bieler released another new song via his Owl Stretching side-project back in January He posted the track along with the following update:
"So strange that I wrote and recorded this song on Friday (January 8th) and did this Bowie 'Fame' vocal nod that I was going to take out just because it was, well, a rip, but now I will leave it in as a small nod to the genius."
True Love by Owl Stretching
Saigon Kick recorded a cover of the David Bowie classic 'Space Oddity' for their Water album in 1993 featuring Bieler on lead vocals (check it out below). Bieler checked in with a tribute to Bowie, who passed away at 69 on January 10th following an 18 month battle with cancer.
"Getting a message that David Bowie thought a cover you did 'was really good' was a massive career highlight, even if he was just being kind. Knowing that in some microscopic way we briefly crossed paths is like saying you shared a cup of coffee with Dali or rode the train with John Lennon, irrelevant in their worlds but life changing in yours. I had no idea he was that ill when I posted about him on Friday (January 8th). I spent the entire weekend listening to the Blackstar album over and over, talking with my daughter about how amazing it is to be that current, cutting edge and relevant for so long... as he is on her playlists as much as mine. Music and life done right…well done Mr. Bowie."

All three versions of 2112-40th feature extensive liner notes by renowned rock historian Rob Bowman, and newly designed artwork by longtime Rush art director Hugh Syme. The set’s rare recordings include “Solar Federation”, spotlighting the isolated Neil Peart vocals that close the song “2112” in “Grand Finale,” two outtakes from the 1976 Massey Hall concerts including “Something For Nothing” and a nearly complete 15+ minute performance of “2112,” as well as a recently-rediscovered live version of the album track “The Twilight Zone,” which has only been performed twice in the band’s long history.
The epic 2112 album which guitarist Alex Lifeson described as “the first record where we sounded like Rush,” is widely regarded as a crucial landmark in Rush’s body of work. Although it was the band’s fourth album, it’s generally considered to be the one on which the band’s epic sound and ambitious conceptual approach blossomed. Resisting record-company pressure to focus on shorter, more radio-friendly songs, the band stuck to its guns and constructed the album’s seminal seven-part, 20-minute title piece, a conceptual suite set in a dystopian future.
In addition to its status as a creative landmark, 2112 was also Rush’s commercial breakthrough, becoming the band’s first album to reach the Billboard LP chart and the first Rush album to achieve Gold sales status in the U.S. (it was subsequently certified Platinum). 2112 was also Rush’s first platinum album in Canada, spawning a now-legendary Canadian tour that culminated in a three-night stand at Massey Hall in Toronto, which was recorded for Rush’s first live album, All the World’s a Stage.
2112 is one of two Rush albums listed in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, and it ranked second on Rolling Stone’s 2012 readers’ poll of “Your Favorite Prog Rock Albums of All Time.” In 2006, the non-profit Audio-Visual Preservation Trust of Canada chose 2112 as a culturally significant example of Canada’s audio-visual heritage.

In other news, Canadian Music Week has announced Rush as the 2017 recipient of the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award. The multi-platinum trio will be honoured for their achievements and longstanding career in the music industry, social activism and support of humanitarian causes at the annual Canadian Music & Broadcast Industry Awards Gala Dinner at the Sheraton Centre on Thursday, April 20th, 2017.
"We are so incredibly honoured to receive the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award. The depth of Allan and Gary Slaight's generosity, consideration and benevolence has no measure. We will strive to carry forward their spirit of charity and goodwill." - Rush
"My father Allan Slaight believes that giving back to one's community is something we should all strive to do and the members of Rush have made a point of this throughout their career, starting with a United Way benefit-concert at Maple Leaf Gardens in the early '80s when Allan was Chair of the Campaign," said Gary Slaight, President and CEO Slaight Communications Inc. "In recent years, the group has raised money for food banks, Casey House, the Kidney Foundation, Doctors Without Borders, AIDS research; the list goes on. Alex, Geddy and Neil have been in my family's rock 'n' roll life since the early days when we started Q107 in the late 1970s, and it gives me real pleasure today to thank these three exemplary musicians, on behalf of the Slaight Family, in awarding them with the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Award. Good deeds deserve acknowledgement and this is one group that exemplifies the spirit of giving."
"We are proud to be acknowledging Rush's legacy with the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award," added Neill Dixon, President & CEO, Canadian Music Week. "We praise their spirit and determination in philanthropic and humanitarian causes, as their dedication to multiple charities and organizations is very inspirational. They have shown extraordinary support in social involvement and charitable causes, and we are excited to celebrate them at this year's awards."
With more than 40 million records sold worldwide and countless sold-out tours, Rush is not only one of the most inventive and compelling groups in rock history, they remain one of the most popular. According to the RIAA® Rush's sales statistics place them third for the most consecutive gold/platinum studio albums by a rock band, topped only by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. In addition to their consistent commercial success, Rush has also been recognized with nine JUNO Awards and seven Grammy nominations, including one for the acclaimed documentary Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage. The group has remained unwaveringly committed and adventurous throughout their musical journey, and the same characteristics can be used to describe their charitable dedication.
Over the course of their four-decade-long career, the members of Rush have thrown their support behind a wide variety of worthy causes often privately and sometimes publicly. From their earliest shows at Toronto's historic Maple Leaf Gardens, the band started working with the Toronto Food Bank to encourage fans to bring food for those in need. Eventually deciding to do their first charity concert at Maple Leaf Gardens to benefit the United Way in the early '80s, and an amFAR show to benefit Aids Research in the early '90s, engaging themselves and their fans in positive pursuits naturally became part of the Rush ethos.
As dedicated advocates of human rights, in 2008 Rush donated $100,000 from a Winnipeg concert's gate to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. In the same year, on their Snakes & Arrows Tour, the band donated $100,000 from their show in New Orleans to Brad Pitt's Make It Right Foundation to assist in the revitalization of the city post Hurricane Katrina, and sponsor the construction of a house in The Lower Ninth Ward dubbed "The House that Rush Built."
From their 2010 Time Machine Tour onwards, Rush has donated $1 from every concert ticket sold to various charities including Doctors Without Borders, a total which will soon surpass $2 million over these last five years. In 2013, the band performed an incredibly successful benefit concert at Red Deer's Enmax Centrium with all proceeds going to the Canadian Red Cross to help victims of the flooding that devastated many regions of southern Alberta. The event raised more than $575,000 and was one of the largest donations made to the Alberta Flood Relief.
Rush has also been a passionate supporter of Little Kids Rock, a national non-profit organization that works to restore and revitalize music education programs in disadvantaged U.S. public schools. In efforts to provide percussion instruments to schools, the group created a premium Neil Peart Paragon Cymbal Pack, each of which came with a free splash cymbal personalized, autographed and dated by the Rush drummer himself. This cause-based marketing initiative went on to raise over $50,000 for Little Kids Rock. Working with their endorsement companies, they have set up partnerships for their signature items which have seen many positive charitable efforts such as Neil Peart with DW, Sabian and ProMark, where one campaign raised over $60,000 for Child Advocates. Alex Lifeson has donated royalties from his signature Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess guitar to the Domenic Troiano Foundation for guitar music scholarships.
The band members have also donated their time, funds and awareness through their personal interests and events. An avid baseball fan, Geddy Lee donated close to 400 baseballs signed by former Negro League baseball players from his personal collection to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City in 2008. Alex Lifeson is a supporter of Casey House, as well The Kidney Foundation to which he donates his paintings that has led to almost $300,000 in funds raised. As part of their Brush For Hope campaign, Lifeson's current painting, "Aquarium" is available for bids now until November 8th. During the band's South American tour in 2010, Neil Peart was moved by the rescue of the trapped miners in Chile. When he wrote a story about his experiences touring in South America, he rallied Rush fans and his readers to make a $1 donation for his story. Neil matched their donations, and together they raised $10,000 for the Chilean Red Cross.
For more than 10 years, Geddy Lee has been an active board member for the Grapes for Humanity Canada charity, an organization that raises funds to benefit humanitarian causes around the world with the assistance of the international wine community. Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson co-host their bi-annual Grapes Under Pressure wine event supporting the local wine growing regions of Ontario. All three members of the band support this cause through their Grapes Under Pressure eBay auction of Rush memorabilia. These combined events have raised over $500,000 to date.
As a band with over four decades of hits, Rush's vast catalogue includes such classics as 1974's self-titled debut, 1976's 2112, 1981's Moving Pictures, 1996's Test For Echo, and 2002's Vapor Trails. Rush released their 20th studio album, Clockwork Angels in 2012 via Anthem/Roadrunner Records. The critically acclaimed collection marks their first studio recording since 2007's Snakes & Arrows, and debuted at #1 in Canada and #2 on the Billboard 200 matching the highest chart debut of the band's career. Rush was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994, made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1996 and inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010. They have received a star on both Canada's Walk of Fame (1999) and Hollywood Walk of Fame (2010). Rush received the highest artistic honour in Canada by winning the Governor General's Performing Arts Award in 2012 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
Later this month, the band will be releasing a documentary from their recent R40 Tour, Rush Time Stand Still (Anthem/Ole/Universal). Narrated by Paul Rudd, the film documents the band and their 40 plus year relationship with their legions of loyal fans. The film Time Stand Still will premiere on November 3rdin Cineplex/Landmark theatres across Canada and Fathom in the US, then be released on BluRay/DVD on November 18th.

Former FIREWIND Singer APOLLO PAPATHANASIO: Listen To 'Revolution For The Brave' From 'Waterdevils' Solo Album"Revolution For The Brave", a brand new song from former FIREWIND and current SPIRITUAL BEGGARS vocalist Apollo Papathanasio, can be streamed below. The track is taken from Papathanasio's new solo album, "Waterdevils", which was released on November 18 via Escape Music. The CD was recorded and mixed at Global Musix Studio in Gothenburg, Sweden with producer Jalle Westergen.
After more than two decades of contributing with his voice and songwriting on studio albums, finally it is time for Apollo to deliver his first solo album. And it's has been a long road leading to "Waterdevils".
Apollo's career started at the age of 14 when the young Apostolos from Swedish town Borås, inspired by bands like KISS and ALICE COOPER, and he started playing with various bands, as an aspiring guitarist.
"Not many wanted to be vocalists back in those old days; everybody wanted to play the guitar, nobody wanted to sing," he explains. "So I just made the decision to become a singer."
Apollo joined his first bands BLAZON and CRAZE at the age of 17. CRAZE released a single, "Living In Sin", but the band disbanded shortly thereafter when Apollo left to do his military service in 1988. It took another eight years before Apollo recorded his first full album with the band FAITH TABOO.
"We started out as a cover band, but I didn't want to waste time just playing other people's songs, so I had everybody get involved in writing songs for our self-financed album, 'Psycopath' [released in 1996]," he says. The band continued playing local gigs, they eventually called it a day and Apollo joined the band MAJESTIC.
His singing career took off and when he sang with bands and projects in quick succession: TIME REQUIEM, MEDUZA, SANDALINAS, and EVIL MASQUERADE, to mention but a few.
TIME REQUIEM was mixing its album in Studio Fredman in Gothenburg in late 2005 when studio owner and producer Fredrik Nordström introduced Apollo to a guitarist Gus G., who was also working in his studio. "Fredrik said he wanted me to meet this Greek guy, he thought we would get along, 'cause we were both Greek," Apollo says. "It clicked right away. Gus asked me to join his band FIREWIND, but I had to turn down the offer because I was studying at the time and didn't have time for another band. He asked again about six months later, and by that time I was done with my studies so we went for it. It was magic. It felt like it was finally the real deal and we were all on the same musical level."
The years with FIREWIND definitely and finally put Apollo on the map. He recorded four albums with the band and toured with the likes of Y&T, SCORPIONS, JUDAS PRIEST and WHITESNAKE, among others, playing big festivals such as Download, Graspop Metal Meeting, Sweden Rock Festival and more.
Apollo parted company with FIREWIND in January 2013 and decided to focus on SPIRITUAL BEGGARS (with ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott), whom he had joined in 2010. The ensuing two years were spent writing, recording and collaborating with friends from bands like KING DIAMOND, HELLOWEEN, GAMMA RAY, ARCH ENEMY, GRAND MAGUS, METALIUM, MASTERPLAN and many more.
"I originally wanted to release the material under a band name or as a project, but people kept saying it was about time that I go solo and step out as a solo artist," he explains. "So I decided to take the plunge."
"Waterdevils" is the result of Apollo's free musical spirit where he has liberated himself from all rules and just done whatever he wanted to do.
"I wanted to do this because it's fun and exciting, and also because I want to contribute to keeping classic rock alive," Apollo says.
"'Waterdevils' is a weather phenomenon. It's a small, weak whirlwind over water that's pretty rare. You never know where you'll see it or if you'll see it again. In a way it's a tribute to all of those who have contributed to this album. They showed up, unexpectedly and they might show up again, or maybe not, you just never know. Like waterdevils."
"Waterdevils" track listing:
01. Revolution For The Brave (3:52)02. Liberate Yourself (3:35)03. Buried In A Flame (3:51)04. Safe And Sound (3:48)05. Fallen Endlessly (5:30)06. Crossing The Lines (5:10)07. Power (3:10)08. Rise Up (4:41)09. I Need Rock 'N' Roll (4:27)10. Chasing Shadows (4:35)11. Through The Fire (4:31)12. Stop (5:18) 1

METALLICA Is The Most-Streamed Heavy Metal Band In The WorldMETALLICA has been named the most-streamed heavy metal band in the world, with fans listening to 11,892 years' worth of their music.
According to Spotify, the world's biggest and most popular streaming music platform, METALLICA has 7 million listeners a month. The band's most popular song, "Enter Sandman", has been streamed over 108 million times.
Meanwhile, METALLICA's music is included on 15 million user playlists across the streaming site.
METALLICA in 2012 made all of its studio albums, as well as various live material, singles, remixes and collaborations, available on Spotify. The move was significant because Sean Parker, who co-founded Napster, sat on the board of Spotify. METALLICA waged a battle with Napster sixteen years ago over the illegal sharing of the band's music, which resulted in both legal action and a battered public image for the band.
In announcing the Spotify deal, METALLICA released a statement in which it said: "We are extremely proud to be a part of Spotify, who not only has a proven track record, but is by far the best streaming service."
METALLICA is now able to make these deals directly since, as of 2012, the band has complete control over the master tapes of all its audio and video recordings. The band has also launched its own label, Blackened Recordings.
METALLICA sued Napster after the band discovered that a leaked demo version of its song "I Disappear" was circulating on the service before it was released.
METALLICA's new studio album, "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct", arrived on November 18. 8

Video: EVANESCENCE Performs Cover Of MICHAEL JACKSON's 'Dirty Diana' In Atlantic CityFan-filmed video footage of EVANESCENCE's November 19 performance at Harrah's in Atlantic City, New Jersey can be seen below. The band's encore included a cover version of Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana", which EVANESCENCE has been performing on the group's current tour. Also performed during the set was a new song called "Take Cover" which EVANESCENCE has been playing live as part of a short run of dates ahead of the December 9 release of vinyl box "The Ultimate Collection".
EVANESCENCE singer Amy Lee told TeamRock: "We are playing a new song live right now. We got together for rehearsals and we really focused this tour on the fans and the history of the band.
"Kind of in light of this whole box set theme, we wanted to do everything that the fans want and not just what we felt like doing. It has been so fulfilling and so fun.
"When we got together the guys were really strongly supportive of it, we had a song in the bank. And we were like, 'You know what the fans would really love is a new song. That's all they ever ask for.'
"So we knocked the dust off an old song called 'Take Cover' that we had in the bank for a while and we loved it. It's one of our favorite moments every night on the tour.
"I think they like it a lot. I posted the lyrics on Facebook and now I get at least five people in the front row mouthing along, which is extra fun."
Lee added that EVANESCENCE has been inspired to work on some more new music, although it's not clear if there are firm plans for the band to record the follow-up to 2011's self-titled effort.
"We're definitely in a creative mindset," she said. "We're playing the best that this band has ever played.
"Everyone is healthy and happy and loves being here and likes working together. It sounds like maybe that shouldn't be so rare, but it really is.
"So we're looking for opportunities to work together more and we want to get creative. We're definitely in that new chapter moment where the wheels are turning."
EVANESCENCE went on hiatus after touring for the release of its 2011 self-titled record. During that time, Lee gave birth to her son, Jack, and worked on both solo and soundtrack music. 1

DON DOKKEN Joined By Ex-SKID ROW Singer JOHNNY SOLINGER For Houston Acoustic PerformanceDOKKEN mainman Don Dokken played a special solo acoustic show on Thursday, November 17 at Proof Rooftop Lounge in Houston, Texas. Joining him during the set for a performance of the DOKKEN classic "In My Dreams" was former SKID ROW singer Johnny Solinger. Fan-filmed video footage can be seen below.
The reunited classic lineup of DOKKEN — singer Don Dokken, guitarist George Lynch, bassist Jeff Pilson and drummer "Wild" Mick Brown — completed a six-show Japanese tour dubbed "Unleashed In The East" in early October.
Dokken, Pilson, Lynch and Brown launched the Japanese tour on October 5 in Osaka, before heading to Fukuoka, Tokyo for an appearance at the Loud Park festival and continuing on to Hiroshima, Aichi and finally, back to Tokyo for the final show on October 12.
Don recently told Billboard that the main reason he doesn't want to continue with the classic DOKKEN lineup is that "loves" the band he has now — which features Brown, alongside longtime guitarist Jon Levin and bassist Chris McCarvil. "We've been together for 13 years, and I don't want to hurt that franchise," he explained. "Plus if we were to continue with [the classic] lineup, old wounds might be opened, and I don't want to revisit that. I don't think any of us wants to. It's all great when a marriage fails and you say, 'I'm gonna get back with my ex' — for a week, maybe. Six months into it, the wounds come back. I don't want to experience that. It's just not part of my life anymore, and I think the other guys feel the same way."
Solinger, who joined SKID ROW in 1999, was fired by the band in April 2015 and replaced by TNT singer Tony Harnell.

PAIN OF SALVATION: Watch Official Video For New Single 'Meaningless'Swedish progressive rock/metal innovators PAIN OF SALVATION will release their long-awaited new studio album, "In The Passing Light Of Day", on Friday, January 13, 2017, via their longtime label partners InsideOut Music.
The official video for the album's first single, "Meaningless" — produced by Joakim S. Hammond and Love Fagerstedt for Lynx Pictures — can be seen below.
Commented PAIN OF SALVATION: "We feel very proud to release the first video for the upcoming album 'In The Passing Light Of Day'. Love and Joakim and the entire film team have made a tremendous work. In it, you will also see some wonderful PAIN OF SALVATION fans, whom we want to send extra warm thanks to! Let the journey begin, into the passing light of day. Enter 'Meaningless'."
Working together with acclaimed producer Daniel Bergstrand (IN FLAMES, MESHUGGAH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD) at Dugout Studio in Sweden, the band has crafted an album that sees PAIN OF SALVATION returning to its much-praised heavier sound, featuring the syncopated rhythms, glorious melodies, and intensely personal themes that PAIN OF SALVATION fans have long loved about the band.
Inextricably linked to the near-fatal illness that band leader Daniel Gildenlöw spent much of the first half of 2014 recovering from, the album is an altogether darker and more impassioned journey. Taking the hospital bed as a narrative hub, the lyrical and musical themes touch on all the conflicting feelings that run through a person's mind when presented with the prospect of death and the passing of life.
Gildenlöw comments: "What started off as an annoying infection has, in just hours, suddenly pivoted into the very real possibility of my actual dying." That's not to say, however, that all this record presents is blackness. "This album also shows the beauty of the transition, of the inevitable. And of the hope of a tomorrow, the hope of change, no matter how frail and naive that hope may be."
In the past six years since the release of "Road Salt Two", fans hope for new PAIN OF SALVATION output has truly been tested. But their perseverance, as well as that of Daniel Gildenlöw and his band, has been rewarded with perhaps the most stunning album of their career.
The album will be available as a special edition 2CD mediabook (including expanded 48-pages booklet, several in-depth texts by conceptual author Daniel Gildenlöw, demo material and band commentary tracks), standard jewelcase CD, gatefold 180g 2LP vinyl plus album on CD as bonus and digital download.

GEOFF TATE, BLAZE BAYLEY And TIM 'RIPPER' OWENS Kick Off 'Trinity' Tour In Falls Church, Virginia (Video)"Trinity", the tour featuring three of heavy metal's finest vocalists — Geoff Tate (QUEENSRŸCHE, OPERATION: MINDCRIME), Blaze Bayley (IRON MAIDEN, WOLFSBANE) and Tim "Ripper" Owens (JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH, BEYOND FEAR, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) — officially kicked off this past Thursday, November 17 at the State Theatre in Falls Church, Virginia.
Backed by Tate's OPERATION: MINDCRIME bandmates, the trio performed the following songs:
01. Empire (QUEENSRŸCHE) (Tate on vocals)02. I Don't Believe In Love (QUEENSRŸCHE) (Tate on vocals)03. Run To The Hills (IRON MAIDEN) (Bayley on vocals)04. The Trooper (IRON MAIDEN) (Bayley on vocals)05. The Ripper (JUDAS PRIEST) (Owens on vocals)06. Scream Machine (BEYOND FEAR) (Owens on vocals)07. Jet City Woman (QUEENSRŸCHE) (Tate on vocals)08. The Needle Lies (QUEENSRŸCHE) (Tate on vocals)09. The Stranger (OPERATION: MINDCRIME) (Tate on vocals)10. The Number Of The Beast (IRON MAIDEN) (Bayley on vocals)11. Fear Of The Dark (IRON MAIDEN) (Bayley on vocals)12. Man On The Edge (IRON MAIDEN) (Bayley on vocals)13. Burn In Hell (JUDAS PRIEST) (Owens on vocals)14. Eyes Of A Stranger (QUEENSRŸCHE) (Tate on vocals)
Encore:
18. Living After Midnight (JUDAS PRIEST) (Tate, Bayley and Owens on vocals; Owens also on guitar)
Check out fan-filmed video footage of the concert below.
Regarding how the "Trinity" tour came together, Tate told Rockin' Metal Revival: "I have this new project called OPERATION: MINDCRIME. We wrote and produced and put together a trilogy of albums, and 'Resurrection' is the one [that just came out]. There's a track called 'Taking On The World' that I thought would sound great with some different voices on it. I called up Ripper and Blaze who were both coming through town. We hooked up and had just a great time singing on this particular song. As we were working on it, we started talking about, 'Wouldn't it be fun to maybe tour together at some point?' We loved the idea until we started to put together our schedules, which are crazy. We're all going at different places, different times, so the only time we could get all three of us in the same country was around Thanksgiving in the northeastern part of America. That's when the first dates of the tour will take place. I'm looking forward to it. It's going to be three incredible singers getting together for an incredible, memorable night of metal."
Asked what fans can expect from the shows, Geoff said: "We're each going to be doing a set of music from the band's that we were in. I'm doing QUEENSRŸCHE, and Tim's doing JUDAS PRIEST, and Blaze is performing IRON MAIDEN, then we're going to be joining each other onstage and harmonizing with each other and singing together on some songs. It's really kind of fun; we played around with it in the studio when we were recording. That's what led up to this. We had a great time. It's just three people who get along famously and have a lot of laughs.
"We're going to share the same band. It's going to be, I think, incredibly memorable because we're all very accomplished in our own ways and have very unique voices. But the three of us together are incredibly cool. It's a really different kind of sound. I think probably the coolest thing about it is that we have a lot of fun doing it."
Tate told The Metal Voice that he hoped to take the "Trinity" tour to more cities and countries after the current run. He said: "Well, the biggest challenge that we have of doing a tour together, we found, is all three have very extensive touring schedules, so getting us all lined up to be in the same place, it's really quite an undertaking. So we managed to get, I think, ten dates, to start with, in the Northeast in the end of November. And we're gonna try to book some more in other parts of the world. It's kind of a challenge to do that at the moment, but we're all kind of working towards doing that, 'cause we enjoy the project so much. So we're gonna see if we can extend it and add it to some different places in the world." 12

MR. BIG/Ex-ACE FREHLEY Drummer MATT STARR And Producer WARREN HUART Release Educational DVDDrummer Matt Starr (ACE FREHLEY, MR. BIG) and producer Warren Huart (AEROSMITH, ACE FREHLEY) have released a DVD through ProMix Academy, "Producing And Recording Drums With Matt Starr".
The DVD is an educational recording experience. It features an entire day of production and recording with Starr from start to finish; including how to select the right drums, microphones and gear, hearing the song for the first time, making creative decisions and wrapping up with the finished product.
Starr and Huart first met during the production of Frehley's "Space Invader" CD, which reached No. 9 on the Billboard chart and sold over 20,000 copies the first week. More recently, they worked on Frehley's "Origins Vol. 1", which features a cover of FREE's classic hit "Fire & Water" with KISS frontman Paul Stanley, Frehley, Starr and then-THE CULT bassist Chris Wyse. This was the first time Stanley and Frehley had recorded together in over a decade.
Starr says: "Every time Warren and I did a session together, we spent as much time chatting about music, career and family as we did actual recording. It seemed inevitable that we would work together beyond making records.
"Educating and empowering other musicians around the world is something very important to us. I'm very pleased with the DVD and am excited about future endeavors with Warren."
When asked why Warren chose Matt for this DVD, Warren replied: "Matt's sensibilities are perfect in every setting. You know he's a true fan of music, crossing all genres. He's the complete package, a world-class drummer, songwriter and singer who brings a wealth of musical knowledge and ability to every session."
The DVD is now available at PMAProducts.net. 1

SCORPIONS Play Game Of 'My Favorite Things' (Video)Prior to their October 21 concert at at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre in Singapore, German hard rock veterans SCORPIONS played a game of "My Favorite Things" with "ONE FM's #1 Breakfast Show". Check out the clip below.
SCORPIONS in September announced the addition of former MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee as a permanent replacement for SCORPIONS' longtime member James Kottak. Dee had spent the last few months filling in for Kottak, who was said to be on break while he sought medical attention.
Kottak rejoined the SCORPIONS on the road in November 2014, eight months after he spent a month in a Dubai, United Arab Emirates jail in April for insulting Islam.
Kottak, who had been receiving treatment for alcohol abuse, released a statement in June 2014 in which he said "this entire incident caused me to realize that it is time to stop drinking once and for all so that I can become the father, musician, and friend that I know I can be."
Speaking about what keeps SCORPIONS going five decades into the band's career, singer Klaus Meine said: "When we started the band, it was about the passion for music, love for rock and roll. We shared the same visions, and we shared the love for music, and [the desire] to be in a band. It was always… all those years, especially in the early years, about chemistry. Of course, you have great musicians — a great drummer, a great guitarist — but it was also about… You know, you spend so much time [together] being in a band, it's like your second family, it's your rock and roll family. And the guy can be the best musician in the world, but if he doesn't fit right in, if you don't feel comfortable spending so much time [together] — 24 hours [a day] and month after month and year after year. It's very important to have a good company, and in a way, this was the foundation for the SCORPIONS — to have not only great, talented musicians, but also good friends, and travel the whole world. So there was this vision from the early days on — we take our music all over the world, and we did."
He continued: "We've been pretty much all over the globe all those years, but the passion for what we're doing is still there, the fire is still burning very strongly. And we feel a very strong connection with our fans all over the planet, in so many places, and therefore it's so great to come here back to Singapore. We believe we have a great show this time around, and we wanna share it with our fans, and it's a wonderful thing.
"Yes, we celebrate fifty years of SCORPIONS, but I guess it's much more than that. The fact that the band is still together and we still put on a damn good show. And with Mikkey just joining the band, there's a fresh wave of energy, and it's a lot of fun, and we enjoy every night.
"So we're still excited about doing all those trips and taking our music all over the world. This vision never left us. And at the same time, creating new songs — playing not only the big classics on our show, but also to present new material, new songs from our latest album, 'Return To Forever'. So it's the whole package, I guess, that makes the band very, very special. And we still enjoy it very much — not being superstars or anything, but being musicians, being artists, and expressing ourselves though the music and having a wonderful time with our fans all over the world."

LAMB OF GOD: Listen To Previously Unreleased Song 'Culling'Richmond, Virginia metallers LAMB OF GOD released a new EP called "The Duke" on November 18 via Epic. The EP's title track, which was recorded during the sessions for the band's last album, "VII: Sturm Und Drang", was inspired by the plight of a LAMB OF GOD fan named Wayne Ford, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010 and died five years later at the age of 33. The EP includes another previously unreleased track that dates back to LAMB OF GOD's "Wrath" LP, the thrashy, heavy "Culling", which the band finished up especially for this EP, along with live recordings of three "VII: Sturm Und Drang" tracks.
"The Duke" EP will be released as a vinyl version the following week, on November 25.
"The Duke" track listing:
01. The Duke02. Culling03. Still Echoes (live at Rock Am Ring)04. 512 (live at Bonnaroo)05. Engage The Fear Machine (live at Bonnaroo)
You can now check out "Culling" in its entirety below.
LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe, who befriended Ford in 2012 after first learning of his cancer battle, has penned a lengthy note on the band's web site in which he discusses his interaction with the fan and the inspiration for "The Duke"'s lyrics, which were written "in [Wayne's] honor."
Blythe wrote in part: "While I was in the studio [recording 'VII: Sturm Und Drang'], I had asked Wayne if there was anything he wanted to say to the world, any particular words he wanted to be remembered by. My idea was to record him saying them over the phone and then layer them into the record, or perhaps I could take the words and work them into a song's lyrics. 'That's really cool. Let me think about it, man,' he said, but he never got back to me about it. I don't know if he hadn't made up his mind, or if he just didn't feel like it. Regardless, I wanted to honor him in some way. I wanted this level, collected man who had become my friend, all the while staring down his own death, to be remembered through the music of the band he loved. Seeing how calm he remained was (for lack of a better word) inspirational.
"Those of us who think about how we will die all hope that we will do so with dignity, but no one knows how they will handle death until it comes for them. Wayne provided me with a living example of how to leave this world with grace. So I decided to write the lyrics to 'The Duke' from my feeble understanding of his perspective, and in his honor.
"Some of the lyrics for 'The Duke' arose from things Wayne had said to me, others from a conversation I had with his wife, and some just from my own head. I had originally named the song 'Immortalis', but after a conversation with Wayne's father Frank, I decided to keep the original working title that my bandmates had come up with, long before I had ever talked to Wayne.
"When I told Frank about the working title, he laughed and told me that he was a big John Wayne fan. He had named Wayne after the actor, who also happens to be known as… The Duke. Synchronicity at work.
"For various reasons, my band decided to not release 'The Duke' as an album track. I was fine with that — I thought the song and the story behind it would get more attention if it was released on its own later. And I do want the song to get attention, for more reason than one. Besides honoring this man I was friends with for such a brief amount of time, I want the story of 'The Duke' to raise some awareness about leukemia, especially the need for blood marrow donors.
"There are not nearly enough registered donors to fill the need. Bone marrow matches are very specific, much more so than blood, and people die from leukemia and other blood related diseases each year because a suitable donor can't be found. It's easy, painless, and free to register — just go to www.bethematch.org. You may save someone's life. Another great organization to support is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society — they fund research and provide information and resources for patients with leukemia and lymphoma. Check out www.lls.org to find out how you can get involved. 100% of the funds generated from the charity auction I set up to coincide with this release will go to the LLS.
"I know from talking to Wayne while he was alive (and to his wife and family after his death) that he was a pretty private dude, a quiet and humble man. He wasn't a big attention seeker, but in his final days he opened up and talked about his disease more; he knew how much his dying could bring awareness to leukemia, the need for bone marrow donors, and funding for research to try and find a cure for this terrible disease. If he were alive, he would undoubtably be annoyed by the attention I am trying to draw to him now — it would harsh his mellow. But his wife Courtney reassured me recently that he would understand why I am dong this — to try and help people — and that 'he would be so honored to have not died in vain.'" 2

METALLICA: Watch Pro-Shot Footage Of Entire Intimate Concert At House Of Vans In LondonMETALLICA celebrated the launch of its new album, "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct", with what was being billed as a "very special and intimate live performance" earlier today (Friday, November 18), the day of the CD's arrival. The concert in front of 350 lucky fans was livestreamed around the world from House Of Vans in London, England, and everyone can now watch professionally filmed video footage of the entire appearance below.
The band's setlist was as follows:
01. Breadfan (BUDGIE cover)02. The Four Horsemen03. Battery04. Sad But True05. Fade To Black06. Atlas, Rise!07. Harvester Of Sorrow08. Moth Into Flame09. One10. Master Of Puppets11. For Whom The Bell Tolls12. Enter Sandman
Encore:
13. Whiskey In The Jar (cover)14. Hardwired15. Seek & Destroy
"Hardwired... To Self-Destruct", a 2-CD / 2-vinyl set, is METALLICA's first studio album since 2008's multi-platinum "Death Magnetic". Greg Fidelman, who engineered and mixed "Death Magnetic", produced the album.
Instead of a previously announced bonus disc of demos, the deluxe edition of the album features a number of cover songs that the band has recorded over the past few years, including a medley of Ronnie James Dio songs, IRON MAIDEN's "Remember Tomorrow" and DEEP PURPLE's "When A Blind Man Cries".
The deluxe version also features a live set recorded at Rasputin's in Berkeley, California on Record Store Day 2016 and a live version of the new song "Hardwired" recorded in August at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Drummer Lars Ulrich told The Pulse Of Radio about the METALLICA songwriting process: "We have all these riffs and it's kind of puzzle-like. We just sort of go through, you know, that process and continue to revisit and 'Oh, wait a minute, that's really cool the way those two fit together but it doesn't really work with that other thing, so why don't we take those two and put them with that other thing, you know, Number Seven from over here' or whatever. So that's very much our process and we just sort of keep going through it until it sort of eventually turns into songs."

CANDLEMASS Singer MATS LEVÉN Makes His Live Debut With TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA In Council Bluffs (Video)Swedish vocalist Mats Levén (CANDLEMASS, TREAT, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) made his live debut with TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA Thursday night (November 17) at Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.
Musicians performing with TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA on the tour include Philip Brandon, storyteller; Angus Clark, guitar; Vitalij Kuprij, keyboards; Jane Mangini, keyboards; Asha Mevlana, violin; John Lee Middleton, bass guitar; Al Pitrelli, guitar/music director; and John O. Reilly, drums. Other confirmed vocalists are April Berry, John Brink, Ashley Hollister, Dino Jelusic, Jodi Katz, Rosa Laricchiuta, Chloe Lowery, Andrew M. Ross and Jeff Scott Soto.
TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA is the progressive rock band founded by producer/composer/lyricist Paul O'Neill.
The group's 1996 debut album called "Christmas Eve And Other Stories" was the first installment of a Christmas trilogy. The disc, which established the group's style of playing classical, orchestral songs as progressive rock, sold triple-platinum. TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA's next album, 1998's "The Christmas Attic", also sold platinum, and — after a non-holiday album "Beethoven's Last Night" in 2000 — a third Christmas disc, "The Lost Christmas Eve", also sold platinum.
TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA is split into separate touring units to cover more of the country in a limited time. Having two troupes, each of which features a full band and multiple lead singers, allows TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA to play 100 shows in 60 cities over a six-week period.
TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA's current show is an adaptation of its DVD and long-running PBS special "The Ghosts Of Christmas Eve". The "Ghosts" touring production made its debut last year and has now been brought back.
"The Ghosts Of Christmas Eve", which was originally aired in 1999 on the Fox Family network, was released in audio form for the first time in October. Concert tickets purchased online will include a digital copy of "The Ghosts Of Christmas Eve" with bonus tracks.
The live rock-theater show includes a narrator, guitars, keyboards and electric violinist, a string section, singers (soloists and chorus), the story unfolding visually on a large screen, and lavishly presented special light and visuals (pyrotechnics, snow falling), and sound effects.
"The Ghosts Of Christmas Eve" follows a runaway who breaks into an abandoned vaudeville theater on December 24. While seeking shelter from the cold, the teen is discovered by the theater's caretaker, who uses the ghosts and spirits from the building's past to turn her life around.
Asked if he feels pressure to top himself year after year and show after show, O'Neill told The Morning Call: "Yes. Every year we always say the same thing: 'How the heck are we going to beat this?' Actually, a couple of our crew members used to work for PINK FLOYD and one of them said, 'Paul, there is a reason why PINK FLOYD toured like once every five years.' I'm discovering why. It's a good problem to be having and it's also one of the reasons why at the end of every tour we take quite a bit of the production and pretty much cut it up which forces us to have to come up with something new, something different."
He continued: "One year we had Greg Lake as a special guest. I love Greg Lake because Greg Lake is the guy who invented prog rock. … He said, 'Paul,' he goes, 'you really get prog rock.' I'm like, 'I'm afraid I have no idea what that means.' He said, 'Prog rock is the ultimate form of music. If you're in a blues band and you play jazz songs, it's no longer a blues band. If you're in a jazz band and you play reggae band it's no longer a jazz band. If you're reggae band and play Strauss waltz, it's no longer reggae. But a progressive rock band you can do anything. It's built into the name — progressive — you're always pushing the envelope, which is why bands like RUSH on the radio can go from rock to reggae and back to rock and nobody says boo."
O'Neill added: "Also, with progressive rock bands like EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER, PINK FLOYD, GENESIS, progressive rock bands are not just expected to come up with great songs. Progressive rock is always expected to be pushing the live stage show. When I was kid growing up in New York City, basically there was four guys in spotlights and you were on a roll. I'll never forget the first time I saw GENESIS when they invented the Vari-Lite which changed colors, moods. Everyone was like, 'What the heck is that?' They didn't just rent them they were involved in the design and financing it. It was GENESIS I think that sparked the arms race of special effects on the stage. It basically helped take it to a different dimension. Just make sure that everybody in that arena gets to go to someplace where they normally couldn't go."

GOZU Signs Worldwide Deal With BLACKLIGHT MEDIA/METAL BLADE RECORDSBlacklight Media/Metal Blade Records has announced the signing of Boston's rock/metal outfit GOZU to a worldwide deal. Formed in 2010, the four-piece has released one EP and three full-lengths to-date, and is currently writing their fourth studio album, set for a 2017 release.
GOZU comments: "We are extremely excited to be signed to Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records, started by celebrity chef Chris Santos and partnered with legendary Metal Blade founder and CEO Brian Slagel. The four members of GOZU couldn't be happier. This is why we plug in every night."
Santos adds: "I caught GOZU at Brooklyn's Metal Bar Lucky 13 Saloon and they blew me away. By the second song in their set, I began sending Brian real-time video of the show. GOZU represents the bands that I look for for Blacklight Media; it's hard to articulate, but you know it when it grabs you by the throat."
GOZU heaves the rock yet embodies the soul on its past releases. Comprised of Marc Gaffney on vocals and guitar, Doug Sherman on guitar, Joe Grotto on bass, and Mike Hubbard on drums, the band's sound is tailor-made for blasting out the car speakers via international radio airwaves. Having already been aired on national television (USA) via MTV ('Road Rules', 'Dudesons', 'Real World'), NBC and NASCAR, GOZU aims to take their critical and commercial success to new heights on their upcoming debut for Blacklight Media/Metal Blade, with worldwide touring to follow. Previously, the group shared the stage with the likes of ST. VITUS, PALLBEARER, LO PAN, STORM OF LIGHT, HELMET, ELDER, MOS GENERATOR and FU MANCHU in the States, as well as YOB, CHURCH OF MISERY and KVELERTAK in Europe at Roadburn (Netherlands) and DesertFest Berlin (Germany). 2017 will surely see GOZU back on the road again.

HALESTORM Releases Cover Version Of AC/DC's 'Mistress For Christmas'HALESTORM's cover version of AC/DC's "Mistress For Christmas" can be streamed in the YouTube clip below.
The band says: "Hey freaks, is it too early to be saying 'Happy Holidays?' Regardless if it is or not, we're jumping into the holiday spirit today with the release of a cover of the always excellent AC/DC!
"Check out our version of 'Mistress For Christmas' and start spreading the holiday cheer to your friends and family."
The single can be downloaded via iTunes, Google Play and Amazon and is also available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music.
HALESTORM has also confirmed that it has recorded a third covers EP to follow 2011's "ReAniMate" and 2013's "ReAniMate 2.0".
The band says: "And yes, we do have a new covers EP in the works, details of which we will release very soon. This song will not be on it."
HALESTORM singer Lzzy Hale recently told Swedish outlet RockSverige that the band is contuinuing to write material for its next album, tentatively due next year. Hale revealed: "You have no idea the weird songs I've been writing, subject matter and musically. Musically, it's kinda been a long journey to the beginning, so we're kinda going back to our total roots. We're gonna do a rock record this time. It's like total balls to the wall, but lyrically, it's been a little weird and that's my fault."
The new record will follow up 2015's "Into The Wild Life", which was criticized by some fans for veering too far into pop music territory. As for the subject matter, Hale hinted: "I feel like this next record is gonna be the extreme on both ends where you're gonna see an extreme debaucherous side of me, which I have been very much embracing the past couple of years, and then you're gonna see an extreme hangover, vulnerable side of me." 6

VINCE NEIL To Perform At DONALD TRUMP's Presidential InaugurationAccording to Billboard, MÖTLEY CRÜE frontman Vince Neil will perform at Donald Trump's presidential inauguration in January. The singer, who will appear with his solo band, said he was asked to play at the Washington D.C. event "months ago."
"The promoters asked if I was available, and I said yes," Neil revealed. "So we sent all of the band’s passports to the Secret Service so everybody can get in, and all of the crew people, not knowing who was winning. But we were already scheduled to play."
The singer added that he wasn't sure what he will be playing at the ceremony. "I don't know how long I have to play," he said. "I don't know if the Republican Party says which [songs] to play and what not to do. It's a little ways out. I'll have more information as time goes on."
Neil will appear on the next season of "The Celebrity Apprentice", NBC's long-running business reality show previously hosted by Trump. The president-elect has since been replaced by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the former California governor and a world-famous movie star, known for films like the "Terminator" series.
Neil last month struck a deal to avoid jail time in connection with a misdemeanor battery charge related to an incident where he allegedly assaulted an autograph seeker.
MÖTLEY CRÜE will release a box set, "Mötley Crüe: The End", on November 25 via Eleven Seven Music. The box set will chronicle the band's 35-year career with the inclusion of six LPs and CDs, packaged within a hardcover photo book, of "Too Fast For Love" (1981), "Shout At The Devil" (1983), "Theatre Of Pain" (1985), "Girls, Girls, Girls" (1987), "Dr. Feelgood" (1989), "Saints Of Los Angeles" (2008), and conclude with a live audio CD and DVD of the band's final performance to a sold-out Los Angeles Staples Center arena on December 31, 2015. Also included are four exclusive, autographed lithograph photo prints of the band, four exclusive Mick Mars guitar picks and a commemorative "Final Tour" VIP laminate pass. 6

BAD COMPANY Drummer SIMON KIRKE To Release 'All Because Of You' Album In FebruaryThe End Records and BMG have teamed up to release Simon Kirke's new studio album, "All Because Of You", on February 10, 2017 in North America.
Kirke recorded "All Because Of You" with EMPTY POCKETS over the course of four studio sessions at Chicago, Illinois's Empty Pockets Studios. With Kirke on lead vocals, drums, guitar, keyboards, and ukulele, his cohesion with EMPTY POCKETS (Josh Solomon, Erika Brett, Nate Bellon, Danny Rosenthal) would make you think they've been recording together for years. Kirke says: "I finally got a chance to record some of my best songs with a superb band — the EMPTY POCKETS. This CD has become one of the highlights of my career."
Fans of BAD COMPANY will be excited to learn that Track 3 on "All Because Of You" is a ukulele version of the 1975 BAD COMPANY classic "Feel Like Making Love", written by Simon Kirke (and named the 78th Best Hard Rock Song Of All Time by VH1!). The album also features guitarist Warren Haynes (ex-ALLMAN BROTHERS, GOV'T MULE), who guest stars on Track 10, "Trouble Road".
Regarding how the ukulele version of "Feel Like Making Love" came about, Kirke explains: "I was noodling on my ukulele playing 'Feel Like Making Love' just for fun and my fiancée Maria said, 'You should do that on stage...' I told her it was an iconic song of BAD COMPANY's, and she said, 'So? Do your own version... It's fun...' I played it to the EMPTY POCKETS and they loved it... so here it is." Born and raised in London, THE BEATLES perked a teenage Simon's interest in rock music, and he picked up the drums — leading to a gig with a local band called THE MANIACS, on which Simon supplied drums and lead vocals (something quite uncommon at the time). Simon worked out a deal with his parents after graduating high school, that if he couldn't "make it" as a drummer in a band within a two-year period, that he would begin a college career. Just a few months before the deadline, Simon landed a gig with a group called THE BLACK CAT BONES. The drummer befriended the group's talented guitarist, Paul Kossoff, who in turn convinced Simon to leave the group with him and begin a new outfit with singer Paul Rodgers. Soon ex-JOHN MAYALL'S BLUESBREAKERS bassist Andy Fraser signed on and FREE was officially formed in 1968. Mixing blues with hard rock, the group would prove to be quite influential, especially on the strength of their classic 1970 release "Fire And Water", and its strutting, anthemic hit single "All Right Now". When the band broke up, it didn't take Simon long to find another gig, joining Paul Rodgers in a new band, BAD COMPANY, which was quite similar stylistically to FREE. Joined by ex-KING CRIMSON bassist Boz Burrell and ex-MOTT THE HOOPLE guitarist Mick Ralphs, BAD COMPANY was the first group signed to LED ZEPPELIN's record label, Swan Song. Their debut album, 1974's "Bad Company", would go on to become one of hard rock's all-time classics, as it birthed such long-standing rock radio standards as "Can't Get Enough", "Ready For Love" and the title track, written by Paul and Simon himself. The group hails as one of the all-time top rock outfits. Simon Kirke is the only member of BAD COMPANY who's been in every lineup of the band.

BLACK SABBATH: Listen To Early Live Version Of 'Iron Man' With Alternate LyricsBLACK SABBATH's second album, "Paranoid", was reissued on November 11 by Rhino as a four-disc set that includes the original 1970 LP, a rare quad mix of the record folded down to stereo and two live shows from 1970, one from Montreux and one from Brussels.
The song "Iron Man", recorded live in Montreaux and featuring alternate lyrics, can now be streaming using the SoundCloud widget below.
JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford penned the liner notes for the release. He wrote: "'Paranoid' is important because it's the blueprint for metal. It led the world into a new sound and scene."
"Paranoid: Super Deluxe Edition" includes a hardbound book with new interviews with all band members, photos, a poster and a replica of the book sold during the group's tour in support of the album.
The quad mix included on the set's second disc comes from vinyl and 8-track pressings made in 1974. They've been long out of print. The concerts were recorded around the time of the album's release; in fact, the Montreux show was performed before the album even came out.
An unboxing video for the "Paranoid: Super Deluxe Edition" can be seen below.
"Paranoid: Super Deluxe Edition" track listing:

Disc Four: Live in Brussels 1970
01. Paranoid02. Hand Of Doom03. Rat Salad04. Iron Man05. Black Sabbath06. N.I.B.07. Behind The Wall Of Sleep08. War Pigs09. Fairies Wear Boots
Released in the autumn of 1970, "Paranoid" is regarded by many as the finest heavy metal releases of all time, is hugely influential and has come to define the genre.
The album was produced by Rodger Bain and was recorded at Regent Sound Studios and Island Studios in London, England.
Asked if he realize how special "Paranoid" was while creating it, original SABBATH drummer Bill Ward told Goldmine: "There were several things that I felt back then but I knew that we were into something different. I mean, I think we all did. We knew that we were tapping into something we enjoyed very much. But we knew that it was different. And we knew that it was fragile as well, in the sense that this might not last more than five minutes, you know. Because there were so many opponents in, for lack of better words, higher places that were out to get that album and not give it any time at all."
He added: "When we played these songs originally, like I said earlier, we didn't know if it was going to last or not. It was actually quite fragile in many ways. But then SABBATH became generational. I guess that happens, where other bands become almost cultish. The life of SABBATH has been dependent upon others who have been influenced by SABBATH's music, just by granddad telling grandson: 'Hey, check this band out.' That's been amazing that part. We started to notice that when the guys showing up now are 50, 60 years old, and the kids there as well are, like, 10 years old. It's really neat, actually. It's very nice to see all that. I'm quite pleased how it's turned out to be influential with other musicians, too. To me, those are the things that are like silent gifts that you get when you get old. I hope that I received them with a modicum of humility and not big-headed about it."
Pressed to elaborate more on his use of the word "fragile," Ward said: "Back then, when we were making 'Paranoid' — and when we made our first album — we were still very much a band and we were very tight. There was the band, then the road managers and then the other people who would drive us around and take care of us, you know. There was probably ten of us, ten people together, and in a lot of ways there was a lot of internalizing. You know, we took care of each other's back and we looked after each other. We were really like one. I often referred to it as the Four Musketeers. It felt like that because there was so much coming from the outside. Between the media and TV and all the new audiences that we were reaching, all the new countries that we were traveling in. There was still very much this newness to everything. And I guess a sense of mistrust. We come from a really really hard, tough area in Birmingham so we learned to grow up with one eye always open, so to speak, we weren't stupid, in that sense we were pretty street smart."
He continued: "Keeping that in mind, as we were passing through record companies or talking to lawyers or anything like that, we were much very private. We huddled down and discussed everything and what was going on. We had just come from a huge two-year of touring in Europe where we would share our food. We were quite penniless so when we were playing the Star club and going through the Reeperbahn and doing all the things in Denmark and Sweden and so on and so forth, when we were doing those gigs prior to 1970, we had to learn how to survive because we were basically living for food and playing for food and things like that. So that really does breed a tough veneer, if you like. So we had that for some time. That traveled with us into the new world and the new changes that we were going through, or were about to go through. And that's what I meant by 'fragile.'"
SABBATH originally started out as a blues-rock act called EARTH, and singer Ozzy Osbourne told The Pulse Of Radio that some of that influence made its way into their first album. "We were originally a six-piece blues band," he said. "We had a saxophone player, bottleneck guitar player but they left, they fell to the way, and then we just started writing our own stuff and it came off blues. And so I suppose when we went and we did the first album, we still had that blues flavor with us, you know."

AS LIONS Feat. BRUCE DICKINSON's Son AUSTIN: Debut Album 'Selfish Age' Due In JanuaryBritish rock outfit AS LIONS will release is debut full-length album, "Selfish Age", on January 20 via Better Noise Records. The pre-order for the album begins today on iTunes, Amazon and Google Play, and exclusive album pre-order merchandise bundles are available for order at the band's online store. Fans who pre-order the album will instantly receive "Aftermath", "White Flags", "Deathless" and "World On Fire". "Selfish Age" is the follow-up to AS LIONS' debut EP, "Aftermath", released earlier this year. Helmed by award-winning producer David Bendeth (OF MICE & MEN, PARAMORE, BRING ME THE HORIZON) and Kane Churko (FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, DISTURBED, IN THIS MOMENT), "Selfish Age" is an illustration of the band's mission to create "the biggest, baddest hard rock we could, and on an almost cinematic scale." The album's 11 dynamic tracks are a study in contrasts, with the epic and evocative "Aftermath", the crushing "Deathless", which targets the Internet culture's obsession with image, "Bury My Dead", a hard-hitting personal statement complemented by stately piano tinklings, and the electro-tinged title track, "Selfish Age".
Comprised of vocalist Austin Dickinson (son of IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson), guitarist and keyboardist Conor O'Keefe, guitarist Will Homer, bassist Stefan Whiting and drummer Dave Fee, AS LIONS are the evolution of British rock. Having already played sold-out shows in the U.K., AS LIONS is now leaving its imprint on the States during their U.S. arena tour with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, SHINEDOWN and SIXX:A.M.
"Selfish Age" track listing:
01. Aftermath02. The Suffering03. Bury My Dead04. Deathless 05. Selfish Age06. White Flags07. Pieces08. World On Fire09. One By One10. The Fall11. The Great Escape
AS LIONS was formed after the breakup of Austin's previous band, RISE TO REMAIN, which released one album, "City Of Vultures", in 2011.

WITCHERY: Listen To New Song 'Oath Breaker'"Oath Breaker", a brand new song from Linköping, Sweden-based blackened metallers WITCHERY, can be streamed below. The track is taken from the band's long-awaited sixth studio album, "In His Infernal Majesty's Service", which will be released on November 25 via Century Media Records.
Commented WITCHERY guitarist Patrik Jensen: "This might be my favorite song of the whole album. Totally relentless in its thrashy-ness, yet beautiful and epic during the choruses. I can't wait to get to play this song live! Lyrical topic: A fictional story about a secret society that protects is vows of secrecy."
"In His Infernal Majesty's Service" track listing:
01. Lavey-athan02. Zoroast03. Netherworld Emperor04. Nosferatu05. The Burning Of Salem06. Gilded Fang07. Empty Tombs08. In Warm Blood09. Escape From Dunwich Valley10. Feed The Gun11. Oath Breaker
WITCHERY played a score of festivals in support of their latest release, 2010's "Witchkrieg", did a tour of Japan together with VADER and WATAIN, but, unfortunately, the band's lineup rotation continued. While former DARK FUNERAL vocalist Emperor Magus Caligula assumed live session duties for a while (replacing ex-MARDUK/DEVIAN frontman Legion), it was only recently that guitarist and band leader Patrik Jensen managed to gather the right new members for the recordings of "In His Infernal Majesty's Service", as he explains. "We've sadly had to part ways with two members prior to this album; longtime band member Martin Axenrot and live member (and recording member-to-be) Emperor Magus Caligula. Martin's departure is purely down to him being too busy with his other musical endeavors and Caligula had to leave the band over an unfortunate medical condition involving his hearing. These are both serious losses for the band and we wish them all the best in the future. We have, however, been able to find more than able replacements for our two lost brethren: Chris Barkensjö on the drums and Angus Norder on vocals. They both bring fresh blood and fresh ideas to the band and you can clearly hear that they both have made it necessary for us 'old members' to step up our game a notch or two!” Celebrating the 20th year of the group's existence, "In His Infernal Majesty's Service" showcases an illustrious and revamped lineup consisting of original members Patrik Jensen (guitar; THE HAUNTED), Rikard Rimfält (guitar; SEANCE) and Sharlee D'Angelo (bass, ARCH ENEMY), alongside new additions to this nocturnal guild Angus Norder (vocals; NEKROKRAFT) and Chris Barkensjö (drums, LIK). Self-evidently, WITCHERY stays the stylistic course and continues their infamous tradition of combining the best elements of old school thrash, speed, death, black and ultimately pure heavy metal with dead-on songwriting precision for maximum listening pleasure. In regards to the musical approach and the recording procedure goals with the new album, which was produced and mixed by Daniel Bergstrand at Dug Out Studio (BEHEMOTH, IN FLAMES, MESHUGGAH).
Jensen adds: "Musically, I wanted to make this album more raw than the previous ones. Perhaps as raw as the first album even. I really didn't want to over-work things, as I myself enjoy music that comes more from feeling and enthusiasm than music that has been contemplated and construed.
"This album is recorded by Daniel Bergstrand at his Dug Out Studio in Uppsala, Sweden. Even though Daniel has been a high-profile name for ages within the metal community, I've never had the opportunity to work with him before.
"I have to say that Daniel is really easy to work with. All around a great guy and he immediately understood what I was looking for production-wise when I spoke to him about the album.
"My main request was that I wanted a raw and unpolished production. I really dislike productions where you can hear that the band has had ages to complete just one song. Where there might be a month's worth of coffee breaks between the guitar takes etc. I wanted it to sound like a real band that is playing together. My second request was that I wanted the drums to sound like on VAN HALEN's '1984' album. I seriously love that aggressive middy drum sound.
"I think Daniel did an amazing job and I know that he rates this production very highly on his own personal list of albums he's worked on…” WITCHERY's "In His Infernal Majesty's Service" comes packaged in classy artwork by Andreas Diaz Pettersson. Jensen says: "Longtime friend of the band — and designer of many things associated with WITCHERY — Andreas Diaz Pettersson was once again called upon to create the artwork for our new album. He has a great ability to create artwork that really stands out within the scene, without compromising on quality or with the essence of the band. We are very pleased with what he has created for us, and we think the artwork is a great addition to the overall massive quality and appeal we truly believe this album to have. Stoked!"

METALLICA: Entire 'Hardwired… To Self-Destruct' Album Available For StreamingMETALLICA's tenth studio album, "Hardwired… To Self-Destruct", is available for streaming in its entirety in the YouTube playlist below. Due out November 18, it consists of two discs, containing a dozen songs and nearly 80 minutes of music.
METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich has said what the band and producer Greg Fidelman wanted to capture this time out. "One of the battle cries was to try to again capture something we always strive for — a little looser and a little less precision-based and kind of more about capturing a vibe and a feeling rather than perfection and precision and all that stuff," he said. "So I think Greg was sort of really looking out for that for most of the process and trying to make sure that it still had kind of a nice, loose feel around the edges, you know."
METALLICA frontman James Hetfield stated about the "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct" album title: "'Hardwired... To Self-Destruct', to me… I guess what it means to be is that… A friend of mine told me that… Sometimes he and I would get in trouble a lot, and is it just that we are hardwired that way. I need my friends to tell me some better decisions sometimes, and sometimes I don't. And just wondering if man in general is wired one way or another. But also, I think, a lot of these songs deal with man on the planet. Who do we think we are? In the history of the universe, we have been around a millisecond, and we think we can control the world and global warming and everything. Do we really have that kind of control, or is it [that] our time is finished? I don't know. So, a little bit of a cynical approach to mankind."
Hetfield added in a seprate interview that METALLICA stays away from topics like politics or religion in their music. Asked about the lyrical themes on "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct", he explained, "It's dealing with fame — and for everyone that's their goal: 'I want to be famous!' And there's also the topic of, 'Man, are we really doing this right?' In the timeline of history, man has been around for a nanosecond and (I'm asking): 'Are we done now? Have we had our time?'"
Hetfield added: "We stay away from politics (and) from religion. That just seems to polarize people even more. We all have our own beliefs, but at the end of the day, we're trying to connect with people and it seems like political views don't do that as much as music does."
The singer/guitarist continued: "There's a lot of polarization going on in the States, and I see it other places as well. But it just seems like you have to get more extreme to balance out the other extreme. We've got to find some balance in the middle here somewhere."
Ulrich told BBC 6 that the album is "the leanest we've been for a while. Maybe even the leanest we're capable of," adding that the songs "got tighter and leaner and a little more concise."
METALLICA plans extensive touring in 2017 behind the new album.

CANDIRIA Premieres "The Whole World Will Burn" VideoCandiria have released the video for "The Whole World Will Burn", which is taken from the band's new record, While They Were Sleeping (out now via Metal Blade Records). While They Were Sleeping is a concept album conceived by the band's lead vocalist Carley Coma that tells the tale of a failed musician who rises up against a monarchy in New York City. The clip, comprised of black and white, slice-of-life footage culled from the band's NYC Five-Borough "World Tour," which took place during release week in early October, can be seen below.
Candiria's Michael MacIvor (bass) comments: "The Candiria Five-Borough Tour was an idea conceived by our team many months before our record came out. We wanted to give a little payback to all of our fans located in the boroughs. They have been traveling to see us for years. So we wanted to go to them this time. And we had an amazing time doing it. The people in these under-served markets were so happy and grateful for us coming to them. That it really was an experience the band will cherish forever. We think that the video for 'The Whole World Will Burn' truly captured the vibe of a band from NYC. And how we interact with our people. Frank Godla did a great job. He is from NYC and a fan of the band. So he was able to capture everything we wanted. Frank is someone that we love working with, because first and foremost, he is a friend. He gets the band. He gets our vibe. And he knows what we want without us having to explain things in depth."
Catch Candiria live in concert:

17 - Hartford, CT - Webster Under
19 - Philadelphia, PA - Voltage Lounge
