ODIN'S COURT Launch Crowd Sourcing Campaign To Release Two Albums

ODIN'S COURT Launch Crowd Sourcing Campaign To Release Two Albums

Baltimore, MD based progressive rock and metal band Odin's Court's has announced a crowd sourcing campaign to release two albums: Deathanity (R3) and Turtles All the Way Down Vol, II. Deathanity (R3) is a “reboot” of the original ProgRock Records album released in 2008, consisting of a remix (original recording), new recording (e.g., vocals), and a re-master. Turtles All The Way Down, Vol. II continues the concept started in 2015’s album by the same name.

Rewards for campaign backers include CDs, digital releases, shirts, signed drum heads, vinyl banners, coasters, picks, an invitation to a listening party, and more. Samples and further details may be found at KickStarter.

Band leader Matt Brookins commented on the decision to revisit Deathanity: “This was an important album to the band – we worked hard independently, and then shopped it to labels. It was picked up by ProgRock Records (2008), and to date remains our best selling and most popular release. While we were, and still are, proud of what we did, there are some factors that made us want to revisit and improve the quality of the album… mainly, the addition of Dimetrius LaFavors (lead vocals), but also my improvements as an engineer and producer. Additionally, the concept of the album is becoming increasingly important in today’s world, so hopefully we will reach even more ears with this re-release. Stylistically, this album is heavy, progressive, and artsy.”

Turtles All the Way Down, Vol. II continues where the last album left off, exploring the concept of infinite regression and individuals’ methods of finding their place and coping in such a vast universe. Brookins comments: “The creation of 2015’s album was therapeutic to me. I was so enthusiastic about the concept, that I ended up writing two albums worth of music and lyrics. While we discussed putting out a double album, our financial situation and time constraints prohibited it at the time. Rather than letting these ‘extra’ songs go unheard, we thought it would be nice to complete them. While some songs didn’t make the final cut, many did – and I wrote some new ones as well. We also have a couple of alternate versions of songs from the 2015 album. Stylistically, this album strikes me as a bit AOR with a hard edge.”

NEW AVANTASIA ALBUM TAKING SHAPE

NEW AVANTASIA ALBUM TAKING SHAPE

Currently Tobias and producer Sascha Paeth are in the studio to work on the new AVANTASIA album "Ghostlights", out in January 2016. A world tour with many guest stars will kick off in March (tour dates at www.avantasia.net).

Tobias: "Hello from the dark cellar! It's going great. We have recorded a lot of parts of the album, that being said there are many pieces of the puzzle to be put together yet. It's a very exciting stadium of the production. And in addition to the material we already have, there are new ideas floating around every day. I am currently working on some chord progressions of a bridge, and once again I realize how beautiful electrical guitars can be. I mean, of course we all love the sound, but they feel and look great, my Fullerton in particular. Honestly, I don't get paid anything to say this, but: the Duesenberg Fullerton must be one of the classiest instruments ever built! I had to take a photo while playing around. Looks like an oldtimer car, right? Like an old Porsche out of some James Dean movie... Somehow... But it can sound like a beast if you want it to. Guitar porn, I know... Boring stuff to some, but I am a man and men are kids and kids love toys!!

Anyway, the album production is going great, listening to the great stuff we already have - right now it's more of a challenge to choose which songs to take off the album (harsh), there's simply too much material that I love. Dilemma! Ñìàéëèê «wink» all my favourite albums of my youth had 8-10 songs and a playing time of 35-40 minutes. WHAT ABOUT YOUR FAVOURITE ALBUM OF ALL TIME? LET ME KNOW! For sure 'Ghostlights' is gonna be a rather loong Avantasia album. I'll keep you posted! -T"

I, THE BREATHER To Call It Quits, Announce Farewell Tour With Chasing Safety, Etc.

I, The Breather have decided to call it a day and will be embarking on a farewell tour with Chasing Safety & Novelists in November. They issued the below statement on that:

“Friends, family, fans –

We’ve come to the collective decision that it is time to bring I, the Breather’s 6-year career to a close.
After performing on three different continents, participating in major national tours such as Vans Warped Tour and Rockstar Mayhem Festival, and releasing three albums that bring us immense pride, we have accomplished our goals as a band. Truthfully, we never expected to have been able to do a fraction of these things when we started. We all have goals that we are currently pursuing – some of us will continue to carve out our paths in the music industry and some of us have out our focus elsewhere.

We’re happy to announce this farewell run with our friends Chasing Safety & Novelists. We may also have a few other things in the works that we will announce later on. If we’ve brought any value to you, we’d absolutely love to celebrate I, the Breather’s career with you at the upcoming shows. We’ve got some surprises planned for a few of the dates in particular.

Thank you to everyone who has shown us support in any way. We couldn’t have done this without you. You have been just as big of a part of I, the Breather as we have.

Australian Death Metallers SANZU Unleash “Those Who Sleep In The East” Video

Australian Death Metallers SANZU Unleash “Those Who Sleep In The East” Video

One week after announcing the December 3rd release of their first full-length album, Heavy Over The Home, Australian death-metal goliaths Sanzu now drop the first single and video from the ten-track record titled “Those Who Sleep In The East”.

Pre-orders for Heavy Over The Home are now available in various bundles at this location.

Recorded by Sanzu in Perth, Australia, and mixed and mastered by George Lever from G1 Productions in Somerset,UK, the new album Heavy Over The Home follows up this year’s Painless EP.

“Ever since the release of the Painless EP, we have been working around the clock writing, recording and preparing for the album,” commented vocalist Zachary Andrews. “Painless came from a place of spiritual and musical naivety. The title was chosen to almost make fun of ourselves for thinking 'yeah this will be easy, piece of cake, painless!' When in fact, Sanzu almost didn't make it through the production phase and it’s possible we wouldn't still be here today. It wasn’t intentional but Heavy Over the Home is significantly darker in theme and sound. Although we still very much have retained the Sanzu sound, this record feels like a different place entirely. This is a concept we hope to continue with each album if possible, exploring the different realms of music and art within the vessel of this band, without sacrificing what is loved in our sound.”

The album artwork for Heavy Over The Home was created by Andrews, who said the following about its concept: “The artwork we chose is the antidote to the harmonic character of the Painless EP. Far more chaotic and violent in nature, the spirit has been disturbed and has taken it upon itself to tamper with the limits of reality. Now a more primal energy is tearing it’s way through matter in the midst of a cosmic tantrum, looking for answers. Finding itself dissatisfied and uncomfortable within any space. It brings unto the world all that which it brings unto itself.”

Heavy Over The Home tracklisting:

“Old Orchard Floor”
“Phenomena”
“Ubiety”
“Tailor”
“Those Who Sleep In The East”
“Heavy Over The Home”
“Arrival”
“The Chill”
“Loss”
“Colorblind”

MOTÖRHEAD

MOTÖRHEAD's LEMMY Is Recovering From 'Lung Infection', Ready To Return To The Road

MOTÖRHEAD will resume its U.S. tour on Tuesday, September 8 in St. Louis after canceling its last three shows due to continued health issues experienced by the band's frontman, Lemmy Kilmister.

A statement on the MOTÖRHEAD Facebook page reads as follows: "The wait is over and the doc has spoken. Lemmy had a lung infection (exacerbated by that Denver altitude) which has now been taken care of. Subsequently, Lemmy's ready to give it a go in St. Louis at The Pageant theater on Tuesday, September 8th where MOTÖRHEAD will continue the 40th-anniversary tour in support of their new album, 'Bad Magic'.

"Amidst all the wonderful support Lemmy has received, many have rightfully said he owes us nothing as he has given us everything. We, however, owe Lemmy something… our total respect for his fierce, single-minded and beautifully stubborn determination to continue burning asphalt, playing rock 'n' roll and live where he has always been most comfortable — on the road!

"Thanks again for all your support and see you soon!"

On September 1, MOTÖRHEAD delivered only three songs — "Damage Case", "Stay Clean" and "We Are Motörhead" — in Austin before Lemmy told the crowd, "I can't do it." It followed a similarly abbreviated performance in Salt Lake City, where the band cited the high altitude as the reason behind Lemmy's inability to breathe. A show in Denver, at an even higher altitude, was scrapped the following day before MOTÖRHEAD ever took the stage.

MOTÖRHEAD's 22nd studio album, "Bad Magic", was released on August 28. The CD was recorded at NRG Recording Studios in North Hollywood with longtime producer Cameron Webb.

SLAYER

SLAYER's KERRY KING On 'Repentless': This Is PAUL BOSTAPH's 'Best Recording Ever'

France's TV Rock Live recently conducted an interview with SLAYER guitarist Kerry King. You can now watch the chat below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On drummer Paul Bostaph and guitarist Gary Holt's contributions to SLAYER's new album, "Repentless":

"[Paul] comes so prepared, and I think this is his best recording ever. I think this is the best I've ever heard Paul on drums. And people that I've been talking to since I've been here [in Europe doing press] — a couple of guys in particular — said Paul really stepped up. And I'm, like, I never thought he did bad before, but, yeah, he did do great on this record. And Gary… We just had Gary [come in and lay down] some leads. I thought that would be the best way to introduce a guitar player to a band that's been around thirty years. I thought, as a fan, and being in the band, I thought that would be the best way for him to get his feet wet and for the fans to get a piece of him on our record."

On the songwriting process for "Repentless":

"I mean, of course, the last four years have been odd. [Laughs] But, for me, it started when [SLAYER's co-founding guitarist] Jeff [Hanneman] got injured. I took it upon myself to say, 'I don't know if Jeff's gonna come with any material, I don't know if he's gonna come with a whole fucking record, so I've gotta prepare. So I started working on a lot of new material in the beginning of 2011, and this is the culmination of that material. Obviously, Jeff didn't bring a whole lot. You know, you've got the song ['Piano Wire' that was left over] from the last record. And the song we recorded that I mentioned to you, that song's twenty years old — he just never finished it. And it was one of the ones that I actually liked. I'm, like, 'Dude, you've gotta finish that song.' Me and Tom [Araya, bass/vocals] both liked it. So we made sure we finished that."

On the "Repentless" title track:

"I had the chorus, and I was still playing around with it. And I didn't know what I wanted it to be about, 'cause, I mean, the chorus is really, like, eight words — it doesn't sum up anything. But then I thought, 'I can make this about Jeff. I can make this about how I think Jeff looked at life.' I didn't have to tell anybody it was the song I wrote about Jeff, 'cause you never would have known. But I think it's important."

On working with producer Terry Date:

"SLAYER hasn't done a record in six years, so it was kind of like a coming-out party for us; that's how I see it. And when you think about Terry Date, of course, I know him from PANTERA, but I never knew him. I knew his name, [and] I knew his work. And it seems to me — I didn't have this conversation with him, but it seems to me — like he didn't have anything major recently. At least, if he did, I don't know what it was. So, for me, it was kind of, like, both of us could be a part of this, and both of us could be, like, 'Yeah, we're not done. We're still here. We're kicking, and we're kicking pretty hard.'"

"Repentless" will be released on September 11 via Nuclear Blast.

QUEEN - More Teaser Videos Posted In Anticipation Of The Studio Collection Special Edition

QUEEN - More Teaser Videos Posted In Anticipation Of The Studio Collection Special Edition

Queen on vinyl: This is how listeners first heard the now legendary Queen in the 1970’s when vinyl was the predominant format for recorded music. This September Queen will hit the crest of an already massive wave – a world-wide renaissance of vinyl and record players – with the ultimate set of vinyl LPs, the complete collection of Queen studio albums, re-mastered to the highest standards of quality in both audio and artwork.

The band and their label Universal Music, will release Queen: The Studio Collection, an 18 disc theme-coloured vinyl LP collection, on September 25th. This unique package will be complimented with a fully customised limited edition Queen branded turntable made by Rega.

More teaser videos have been released - check out all six below:

15 albums. 18 discs? What’s the story? Queen always had a special fondness for vinyl, the medium in which they first began to create, around 1970. As a matter of principle, every Queen studio album was offered at the time of original release on vinyl, even well into the era when CD’s had taken over as the medium of choice for most of the public. However, the final two albums, ‘Innuendo’ and ‘Made In Heaven’ were actually formatted primarily with the CD in mind, with a longer running time, so the contents had to be edited down to fit them on to the two sides of a vinyl album. Now, specially for this edition, for the first time, these two albums have been cut at full length as double vinyl LP’s - four sides each – making up a vinyl set that is complete in every way.

The box-set offers many other special features. Most noticeable is the coloured vinyl: designed for collectors, each album has been given a different colour, in keeping with its original artwork, giving a unique record-deck experience. The colour discs have been custom-produced especially for this set, using new material technology which ensures the sound quality is uncompromised.

There are more surprises in the box set;  Queen II originally never had a designated ‘A side’ or ‘B side’ - but ‘Side White’ and ‘Side Black’. For this new edition, the album has been cut on two separate discs, black and white, each with a custom etching on the reverse side, a nice bonus for collectors.

The collection has been five years in the making. Throughout this time Queen’s production team has worked extensively on all stages of this painstaking mastering process. The first step was the tape research; locating and confirming the correct versions and best sources for all tracks. Most notably, Under Pressure, plus five tracks on the Innuendo album, were improved hugely after the discovery of better sources during this period. Particular attention was paid to the original releases to ensure that nothing was lost or changed for the worse by reverting to earlier sources.

Mastering: To ensure optimum quality in mastering the music, the Queen team asked a number of world-renowned mastering engineers to deliver their best efforts on the same three songs; after double-blind comparison tests, Bob Ludwig’s work was a clear winner, and he was asked to master the entire catalogue for this project. Ludwig is probably the best-known mastering engineer in the world. His skills, combined with a perfect acoustic environment and the some of the world’s finest analogue and digital equipment at Gateway Mastering in Portland, USA, allow him to produce matchless quality in the final result. The Queen team were pleased to confirm his reputation, as well as fulfilling their own exacting demands.

The original plan was to master everything straight from the analogue mix tapes, where available. But in fact most of those tapes, having suffered from the effects of time, were in need of some restoration. The problems encountered included speed errors, missing audio, newly developing clicks and other unwanted noise.  So the decision was made to create new super-high quality digital masters, using 24 bit samples and a sampling rate of 96 kHz. All the restoration was then performed in the digital domain, and the vinyl was cut from these perfected files.  All restoration was carried out with the lightest of touches, with a profound respect for the originals, and the resulting masters are undoubtedly the finest ever.

The Cut: Of course, with the vinyl process, everything depends on the final stage – the physical cut – one continuous modulated spiral groove on each side, carrying all the sound information which will eventually reach our ears.

For this process, there was only one man in the frame: Miles Showell at famed Abbey Road Studios, London, has perfected the technique of cutting at half speed. Showell runs the source file and the cutting lathe at 50% of the normal speed, which means double the accuracy in the cutting of the groove, resulting in superior reproduction of the music via the stylus in your record player. Showell uses a beautifully maintained Neumann VMS80 lathe boasting cutter-head amplifiers fitted with custom designed RIAA filters. These filters have been optimised for the very cleanest sound. Showell started by cutting the albums onto acetate discs to check the process for every track, and only after he’d fixed any sibilance or other vinyl-specific problems did he cut the lacquers to be sent to the manufacturing plant.

More trials were carried out before eventually deciding to manufacture at Optimal in Germany. Optimal have an enviable reputation for audiophile-quality pressings, plus unparalleled capability for the printing and manufacture of all the elements to be contained in the box set. The Queen team worked closely with the technicians at Optimal in an exhaustive quality control program where test-pressings of every disc, in black and coloured vinyl, were checked to minimise unwanted noise. Finally, the finished results were compared with original pressings of the LPs, on a top quality modern record player, to answer the question: “Was it all worth it?”

True to the final words of the song: “Yes, it was a worthwhile experience!!!”

The 18 vinyl LP box set comes with a lavishly illustrated 12 x 12 inch 108 page hardback book which features introductions to each album, quotes from Queen themselves, hand-written lyrics, rare photographs, memorabilia, and information on singles and videos - all made possible with unlimited access to Queen’s own archive plus the personal archives of Brian May, Roger Taylor and some generous fans. Thanks to all.

IRON MAIDEN On Track For Fifth U.K. No. 1 Album With

IRON MAIDEN On Track For Fifth U.K. No. 1 Album With 'The Book Of Souls'

According to OfficialCharts.com, British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN are on track to have their fifth U.K. Number One album.

The band's 16th studio CD, "The Book Of Souls", is currently over 30,000 chart sales ahead of nearest rival Jess Glynne, putting them in with a good chance of topping the chart this Friday.

Released globally on September 4 through Parlophone Records (Sanctuary Copyrights/BMG in the U.S.), "The Book Of Souls" was recorded in Paris, France with producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley in late 2014, with the finishing touches added earlier this year.

"The Book Of Souls" includes "Empire Of The Clouds", an 18-minute track penned by MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson, who was recently given the all-clear after being diagnosed with a tumor on his tongue late last year.

IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris told Kerrang! magazine about the song: "I think it's a masterpiece, actually. I think I can say that because I didn't write it! It sounds like MAIDEN, but it's totally different from what we've done before."

He continued: "Eighteen minutes sounds like a long time, but it's actually such a journey that… Well, it's best just to leave people to listen to it and see what they think. But it's very interesting. It's certainly not boring."

"I think you'll see on this album that there's lots going on. There's a hell of a lot to take in. I think there'll be bits and pieces that will hit people initially, but I think they're going to need a few listens. It's a long album. I think it's a really interesting album. Hopefully other people will think it's interesting as well."

The band announced in May that touring plans to support the album wouldn't happen until 2016 to allow Dickinson time to fully recuperate after his successful cancer treatment.

"Whenever we do a new album, we always go out with a new stage show; that's exciting in itself," Harris said. "We always feel like every show is sacred these days anyway, and I suppose even more so now after the scare with what's happened with Bruce. It makes everything more important to us."

He continued: "'The Book Of Souls' is a really powerful album, we're really proud of it and we can't wait to come out and play new songs on the tour. We're really looking forward to it."

LADY GAGA Was Up At 5 A.M. To Buy New IRON MAIDEN Album

LADY GAGA Was Up At 5 A.M. To Buy New IRON MAIDEN Album 'The Book Of Souls'

Pop superstar Lady Gaga has revealed in a new tweet that she was up at 5 a.m. this past weekend because she wanted to make sure she didn't forget to download IRON MAIDEN's new album, "The Book Of Souls". She added: "MUSIC FANDOM IS ALIVE"

Lady Gaga recently told CR Fashion Book magazine that she would rather be called the next IRON MAIDEN than be compared to pop veteran Madonna.

"They're one of the greatest rock bands in history, in my opinion," Gaga said about IRON MAIDEN. "Some people really don't know the importance of metal and the scope of it. Those guys were filling stadiums, and they still are. And it's because of the culture of the music, the poetry that's so powerful, that whenever the fans come together, they unite in the essence of what IRON MAIDEN is all about. I always used to say to people, when they would say, 'Oh, she's the next Madonna.' No, I'm the next IRON MAIDEN."

Gaga graces the cover of the latest issue of CR Fashion Book, which arrived on newsstands on September 3. The publication contains photos of Gaga in two different wedding dresses, including a goth-punk black piece underneath which she is wearing an IRON MAIDEN "The Number Of The Beast" t-shirt.

Lady Gaga previously spoke about her love for IRON MAIDEN and BLACK SABBATH. The singer also appeared in photos with Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Alice Cooper and ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante.

Back in May 2011, Gaga said: "I just saw IRON MAIDEN on their 'Frontier' tour and it totally changed my life. It was my first MAIDEN experience and I just realized in that moment in the show that that was the kind of artist I wanted to be. I didn't want people 30 years from now coming to see my show to see if I've still got it. But rather I wanted them to be fully unified, fists in the air, wanna hear every song. IRON MAIDEN's a lifestyle and those fans live and die by MAIDEN."

When your up at 5 am because you wanna make sure you don't forget to download @IronMaiden new album The Book of Souls. MUSIC FANDOM IS ALIVE

SHAWN DROVER Knew His Role In MEGADETH

SHAWN DROVER Knew His Role In MEGADETH

Levi of Sticks For Stones recently conducted an interview with former MEGADETH and current ACT OF DEFIANCE drummer Shawn Drover. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.

Asked if he was disappointed when he heard that MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine had referred to him and ex-MEGADETH guitarist Chris Broderick as "quitters" during his short speech at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods in June, Drover responded: "Oh, I didn't even know about that. I don't even know how to respond to something like that."

He continued: "With respect to the past, I don't live in the past and I choose just to focus on what I'm doing now with ACT OF DEFIANCE.

"I had great times in [MEGADETH]. I have nothing bad to say whatsoever.

"I haven't done that in a year now — I haven't been in that band for a year.

"[ACT OF DEFIANCE] is my focus right now — to present this band in the most professional way and to let the music speak for itself."

Shawn also talked about his working relationship with Mustaine and whether personal differences played a part in his decision to quit MEGADETH. He said: "I never had an issue with [Dave] whatsoever. I always thought we got along very well, and I knew my role in the band. And that's a big part of joining a band like that. If you don't know your role and think that you can walk into a situation… to an established band and think that you can be an equal partner or something foolish like that, that would be just that: it would be quite foolish. I walked into the situation knowing what my role was, and I respected the legacy of the band and just tried to do the best that I could. So it actually was quite easy. I got along with him very well. I got along with everybody very well. But I was smart enough to know what the situation was, and never thinking, 'Oh, I'll get my songs on the next record.' It was never like that. I respected the legacy of the band and [tried] to uphold that to the best of my ability, no matter who… whatever lineup was in the band at the time, I just did my job. But at the end of the day, I left the band — I was not fired; I left. So it was just purely a musical… I wanted to write heavier music, and that's what I did [with ACT OF DEFIANCE]."

ACT OF DEFIANCE, which also includes Broderick, ex-SCAR THE MARTYR singer Henry Derek Bonner and SHADOWS FALL's Matt Bachand (bass), released its debut album, "Birth And The Burial", on August 21 via Metal Blade Records.

IRON MAIDEN And ONKYO Unveil ED-PH0N3S Headphones

IRON MAIDEN and the award-winning Japanese electronics company Onkyo Corporation have revealed the name of their new on-ear headphone collaboration, Ed-Ph0n3s.

Earlier this year, a visual mock-up of the headphones was displayed on MAIDEN's iconic mascot Eddie at C.E.S. in Las Vegas, sparking huge international interest among the attendees. In the intervening months, Onkyo's engineers have worked tirelessly with IRON MAIDEN's founder member and bassist, Steve Harris, to fine-tune the product and we are delighted to have the very first production samples available exclusively at I.F.A. in Berlin for attendees to physically touch, hold and test out the sound, using the brand new album by IRON MAIDEN, "The Book Of Souls", on Stand 203 Hall 1.2.

Ed-Ph0n3s were used by Steve Harris in the mixing of the brand new IRON MAIDEN studio album, "The Book Of Souls", released globally on Friday, September 4. Steve had a working hand-build set for the mixing that Onkyo have tirelessly spent nine months to fully emulate and ensure top-grade quality on the production line within clearly defined tolerances.
