The trademark combination of dynamics & melancholy remains, though this time the strings and mellotrons have stepped aside for brass and woodwind ensembles. There is also a noticeable change in the vocal presentation - the thickly-layered harmonies have now been stripped back to a more monophonic point of focus. All of these elements come together beautifully, giving the album an incredibly warm and intimate atmosphere.

From the outset - the hypnotic rhythms and longing woodwind arrangement of 'And I Wait', which slowly unfurls over seven minutes, after which heading straight into the sixties-tinged 'Read The Cards', with its heavily-staccatoed horn section and old-school double drums - it's clear that Marsh is pushing further forward.

For The Blue Hour, Marsh has once again assembled a new Autumn Ghost, this time featuring the cream of the crop of the contemporary Norwegian music scene. In fact, this is the first album on which Marsh has chosen to feature an entirely Norwegian line-up, borrowing from bands such as JAGA JAZZIST, THE NATIONAL BANK, EMMERHOFF AND THE MELANCHOLY BABIES and PELBO, along with collaborators Susanne Sundfør, Kaizers Orchestra and Magnet. This also marks the first occasion that an Autumn Ghost album has been written and recorded entirely in Norway.

West Coast blackened death metallers VALDUR recently completed composing their upcoming, as-yet-untitled new full-length. Official recording sessions will commence on November 12th at Earhammer Studios.

The band commented on the new material: “We wish not to elaborate too much and allow the music that we will be putting out in the near future to do the talking."

LED ZEPPELIN will release a film version of its 2007 reunion gig at the end of November. Titled "Celebration Day", the film will feature footage from the band's reunion gig in aid of the late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.

"Celebration Day" will see a worldwide theatrical release by Omniverse Vision on 1,500 screens in over 40 territories on October 17. The theatrical screenings will follow premieres in London, Los Angeles, New York, and other major cities. Tickets for the public screenings will be available on September 13 via LedZeppelin.com. "Celebration Day" will then be available in multiple video and audio formats on November 19 from Swan Song/Atlantic Records. Specific product details will be announced soon.

On December 10, 2007, LED ZEPPELIN took the stage at London's O2 Arena to headline a tribute concert for dear friend and Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. What followed was a two-hour-plus tour de force of the band's signature blues-infused rock 'n' roll that instantly became part of the legend of LED ZEPPELIN.

Founding members John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were joined by Jason Bonham, the son of their late drummer John Bonham, to perform 16 songs from their celebrated catalogue including landmark tracks "Whole Lotta Love", "Rock And Roll", "Kashmir" and "Stairway To Heaven".

Although 20 million people applied for tickets, the band's first headline show in 27 years was seen only by the 18,000 ticket holders who were fortunate enough to have secured seats through the worldwide lottery.

Jason Bonham, who has officially drummed with LED ZEPPELIN several times, beginning with the Atlantic Records 40th anniversary concert in 1988, told The Pulse Of Radio at the time that he never assumed that the job of taking over for his father was automatically his. "I had to work at it, really prove that I could do it, and not just say, 'Hey, I'm John Bonham's son, I should be doing it,'" he said. "You've got to earn this, 'cause there's a million drummers out there that would love to cut your throat right now and take over.'"

According to the Herald Sun, AC/DC will release "Live At River Plate" on November 16 as a the three-disc red vinyl or a two-CD set featuring multiple covers. The live record follows last year's "Live At River Plate" DVD, filmed during their three triumphant Buenos Aires concerts on the "Black Ice" world tour, in December of 2009 in front of nearly 200,000 fans.

In an interview with Fox411, AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson was asked when fans can expect to see the band back on the road. "We're going to London in about three weeks; we're just going to have a sitdown like we usually do," he explained, befoe adding, "I wouldn't like to do another [tour] like the last one. The last one was two years. It broke your body in half."

He continued, "The thing with our band is we never want to go on stage and have people looking at us and saying, 'Oh you should have seen them ten years ago.' So we're going to take it as it come and see what happens. I doubt we'll be doing a big one. If we could do some festivals, I wouldn't mind that all. That would be lovely."

AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young recently confirmed to Classic Rock magazine that the band is working on the follow-up to 2008's "Black Ice". But he said fans may have to wait longer than expected.

"I've been doing some jamming on some song ideas but I do that all the time, as do the rest of the band," he said. "We are still working. But we had a long rest between 'Stiff Upper Lip' and 'Black Ice', so I think we need a couple of years to recuperate and work on it a bit more."

"Head Down", the new album from California blues rockers RIVAL SONS, will be released in Europe on September 17 via Earache Records. The CD, which will be made available in the U.S. via iTunes on Setember 18, was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee with Grammy-nominated producer Dave Cobb (JAMIE JOHNSON, SHOOTER JENNINGS) and Grammy-wining engineer Vance Powell (JACK WHITE, THE WHITE STRIPES, KINGS OF LEON). The artwork was created by Jason Holley (JOSH RITTER, RAY LAMONTAGNE) and can be seen below.

A 13-minute video clip in which the RIVAL SONS members preview clips of tracks from the album, talk about their recording experience, their inspiration, and how "Head Down" was conceived and written can be seen below.

In a recent interview with Shindig! magazine's hip little sister Happening, RIVAL SONS guitarist Scott Holiday stated about "Head Down", "We toured for over a year straight on the back of 'Pressure & Time', lots of improvisation. Making a lot of shit up on a nightly basis — getting very tuned in. Doing this made us closer to each other, the songs, and our audience. Much more in touch. That said, I think we put together a more live, conversational record (musically) than any of our others. It's our fourth record, technically. We knew where we wanted to fill in the gaps. It's more of a 'long-form record for us, too, which I wanted because that will better reflect the live show. We really got to stretch out, hit some new influences. I definitely got to explore and show a few new tricks in my bag. That's what it's all about though, right? Pushing your personal boundaries. It still sounds very much like a RIVAL SONS record, though. I think it's definitely our best-'sounding' record sonically. And most complete, as far as the concept, songs, artwork. And I will mention it's a double vinyl, which I can really dig, with gatefold cover of a beautiful painting created for us by Jason Holley."

Swedish melodic metal five-piece FULLFORCE has finished recording its second album. The new CD is entitled "Next Level" and will be released later this fall via SPV/Steamhammer. The cover artwork was once again be created by Rainer Kalwitz, who previously worked with PRAYING MANTIS and METAL CHURCH, among others.

"Next Level" was mixed and mastered at Roastinghouse Studios in Malmö, Sweden by Anders "Theo" Theander. The CD contains 13 songs of "melodic, heavy" metal and the band is really excited it, according to a press release.

FULLFORCE's current lineup include new guitar ace Stefan Rosqvist, who replaced CJ Grimmark a few months ago.

On the 23rd of March 2013 internationally renowned metal band Epica will celebrate their 10th anniversary with a special performance entitled “Retrospect” which will take place in the Klokgebouw in Eindhoven, in their home country the Netherlands. “Retrospect” will be Epica’s most ambitious project to date, joined by a 70-piece symphonic orchestra and choir, international guests and lots of special effects.

The heavily rumored LED ZEPPELIN live CD/DVD from 2007 is apparently not only coming to DVD, but also movie theaters.

The band has been counting down to an official announcement, which is expected on Thursday, regarding the release of the set.

London's The Sun — which is hardly the most reputable resource for rock release schedules — posted that the concert, which was captured during ZEPPELIN's reunion show on December 10, 2007 at London's O2 Arena, will be released on CD, DVD, and Blu-ray disc on November 22.

Cineplex has revealed its plans to premiere the new package, "Led Zeppelin: Celebration Day", in its theaters on October 17.

FLYING COLORS — the spectacular new virtuoso prog/pop/metal rock band formed by drummer Mike Portnoy (ex-DREAM THEATER) and guitarist Steve Morse (DEEP PURPLE) — is in the middle of its first-ever European tour, which kicked off on September 9 in Hamburg, Germany.

Fan-filmed video footage of the shows in Hamburg and Munich, Germany, as well as the September 6 concert in New York City, can be seen below.

The self-titled debut album from FLYING COLORS sold 6,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 81 on The Billboard 200 chart.

In addition to Portnoy and Steve Morse, FLYING COLORS features Dave LaRue (bass), Neal Morse (keyboards, vocals), Casey McPherson (lead vocals, guitar).

"I think if most people looked at this band on piece of paper, they would think that it would be very progressive and instrumentally based music, but I think once we started playing together, we got taken into all new directions," Portnoy told Audio Ink Radio. "I think a lot of that had to do with Casey, because Casey comes from a more modern rock and alternative rock background, so I think that really helped take the entire band in new directions."

He added, "The diversity element is pretty crazy. It ranges from poppy classic rock sounds like THE BEATLES and QUEEN all the way to modern rock and alternative bands like RADIOHEAD, MUSE and COLDPLAY, and everything in-between. There’s some prog stuff like YES thrown in, as well, and then there are moments that are like the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS or FOO FIGHTERS. So, it really runs the gamut from track to track."

The formation of FLYING COLORS began with a simple idea: virtuoso musicians and a pop singer joining together to make new-fashioned music the old-fashioned way. Refreshing, classic, old and new, the recordings are saturated with the many styles, tones and hues of the players who in becoming a band have delivered a unique fusion of vintage craftsmanship and contemporary music.

In 2008, executive producer Bill Evans brought the idea to the world-renowned musicians and producer Peter Collins. Intrigued by the idea and the prospect of working together, the four musicians signed on to form a band and record a first album.

Steve Morse and Dave LaRue have developed magical music chemistry over the years that began early in their careers as partners in DIXIE DREGS. In 1995, Morse subsequently became a member of DEEP PURPLE, while LaRue's ongoing musical adventures include Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess, Steve Vai, and the aforementioned Portnoy.

Multi-instrumentalist, composer and singer Neal Morse is one of the leading figures in progressive rock, whose notoriety follows his co-founding of the seminal band, SPOCK'S BEARD in 1995, recordings as a solo artist, and contributions to the super-group TRANSATLANTIC.

Mike Portnoy is one of the most popular and respected drummers in both metal and rock, and an accomplished writer and producer. He is the recipient of numerous industry accolades, including 26 Modern Drummer awards, Revolver magazine's Golden God award for "Best Drummer" and Drum magazine's "Drummer Of The Year". He rose to prominence as the leader, drummer, producer, and co-writer for metal/prog juggernaut DREAM THEATER, before moving on in 2010. That same year, he worked on AVENGED SEVENFOLD's #1 album "Nightmare" and their subsequent tour.

It was Portnoy who recommended ALPHA REV's emotive singer Casey McPherson as a contender to join FLYING COLORS. McPherson, whose 2010 Hollywood/Disney album "New Morning" debuted in the Top 5 on two Billboard charts, enjoyed major success at radio with multiple hits. The track "New Morning" spent 17 weeks in the Top 10 on Triple A Radio, and enjoyed a run on VH1's Top 20 Countdown for months. Steve Morse offers, "Casey was a glorious find, because he could make anything sound fantastic, and is a multitalented like the others."

FLYING COLORS convened for just nine days in early 2011, and composed and recorded this album during a short and intense session.

"Spiritual Genocide" was recorded at Gernhart Studios in Troisdorf, Germany with engineer Martin Buchwalter and will be mixed by Andy Classen. The album will feature guest appearances by Thomas "Angelripper" Such (SODOM), Andreas "Gerre" Geremia (TANKARD) and Ol Drake (EVILE). In addition, the "Mad Butcher"/"Release From Agony" lineup of DESTRUCTION — featuring guitarist Harry Wilkens and drummer Oliver Kaiser — will reunite for one song.

Commented DESTRUCTION vocalist/bassist Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer: "For this anniversary album we did a really great job. Our new drummer, Vaaver [real name: Wawrzyniec Dramowicz; INDUKTI, ex-UNSUN], opens up new possibilities of course.

Inspired by IRON MAIDEN, MERCYFUL FATE, MOTÖRHEAD and VENOM, DESTRUCTION was formed as KNIGHT OF DEMON in 1982. The band's original lineup included vocalist and bassist Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer, drummer Tommy Sandmann, and guitarist Mike Sifringer. They soon changed their name to DESTRUCTION and released a demo titled "Bestial Invasion Of Hell" in 1984.

Montreal-based power metallers KEMILON are streaming their new single 'The Glow' online, from their debut album Twisted Storm. The ten-track opus was released by Maple Metal Records worldwide in April. Check it out below:
Kemilon are a sextet from Montreal, QC, Canada formed in 2008 by guitar players Chris Geoffroy and Louis Jacques.

With the recent announcement of guitarist Louis Jacques replacing Kim Gosselin in the Montreal epic metal band BLACKGUARD, the guys in Kemilon address this issue, commenting “We're very happy for him! It is a great opportunity and will be a valuable experience for him!”

Louis will continue to fulfil his obligations with Kemilon, and he will share the guitar duties for both bands.

Kemilon do have a majority of their next album already written, and they will continue to mix the shredding solo duties between Louis, Chris and keyboardist Arnaud.

Guitarist Stefan Kaufmann has left U.D.O. — the German metal band led by former ACCEPT frontman Udo Dirkschneider — for health reasons.

U.D.O. has begun with the preparations for the forthcoming studio album and is looking for a new guitar player with immediate effect. Interested parties can send their application to ITM Agency (fsuepfle(at)itm-agency.com).

Stefan will continue to work with U.D.O. behind the scenes and produce other bands at his Roxx studio.

Kaufmann was the drummer for ACCEPT on nine albums but was forced to give up drumming towards the end of the band's initial run due to health problems.

Stefan joined U.D.O. as a guitar player in 1996, following ACCEPT's second breakup, and has recorded nine albums with them.

U.D.O. 's latest album, "Rev-Raptor", was released on May 20, 2011 via AFM Records.

U.D.O. 's November 16, 2011 concert at Hristo Botev Hall in Sofia, Bulgaria was professionally filmed for release as a DVD+CD and Blu-ray+CD. Entitled "Live In Sofia", it will be made available on September 28 via AFM Records.

Created by the same team behind the widely acclaimed QUEEN: Days of Our Lives BBC documentary, The Great Pretender, in similar vein, presents a compelling insight into its subject matter, unearthing previously undiscovered or rarely seen footage and presented for the first time in High Definition.

Produced and directed by Rhys Thomas, life-long Queen fan and expert (to the extent that Rhys famously broke the Mastermind all time record points score with a specialist subject of Queen), Rhys has this time turned his attention to the Freddie archive, going back as early as 1976 in search of vintage gems which reveal more than ever before the inside story of Freddie’s life and career and the solo projects he worked on outside of Queen.

The extensive archive footage is drawn from rare interviews with Freddie, concerts, video shoots and personal material, much of it being seen for the first time, along with newly filmed contributions from fellow Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor, Queen manager Jim Beach, soprano Montserrat Caballé, composers David Arnold and Mike Moran, lyricist Tim Rice, comedian and lifelong fan Matt Lucas and many more.

From it emerges a portrait of a man who was very different to his flamboyant onstage public persona.

Among the treasures to be anticipated, The Great Pretender includes for the first time ever Freddie and ROD STEWART singing their demo for 'Take Another Piece of My Heart', an unreleased song from 1984, a snippet of the unreleased MICHAEL JACKSON / Freddie Mercury collaboration 'There Must Be More To Life Than This', and Freddie with the Royal Ballet 1979 – never seen in full before.

Rhys, whose extensive scouting for lost material turned up a copy of the band’s first TV appearance among the belongings of late comedian Dick Emery, brings to the light Freddie’s earliest filmed interview from 1976 unearthed in Australia and another unseen interview from 1976 filmed by NBC in the USA.

Rhys also found 10 cans of Freddie’s 39th Black and White birthday party in Mrs. Henderson’s nightclub in Munich in 1985. Originally filmed for the video for 'Living On My Own', and promptly banned by Freddie’s record company because of its cross-dressing theme, there’s much to be enjoyed in watching Freddie and his friends go full out in their efforts to help Freddie celebrate his last birthday before turning 40.

On top of this, The Great Pretender has a feast of outtakes from the video shoots for 'I Want To Break Free', 'One Vision', 'Days of Our Lives', 'I Want It All', 'A Kind Of Magic', 'Princes of the Universe', 'Living on My Own', 'Born To Love You', 'Great Pretender', 'Made In Heaven' and 'Who Wants to Live Forever'.

As bonus features (that will not make up part of the version to be broadcast by the BBC) the program includes Freddie Mercury Goes Solo and an extended interview with MONTSERRAT CABALLE.

Coinciding with the release of The Great Pretender DVD will come the release of the new Barcelona: Special Edition album with Freddie and Montserrat’s original album re-recorded with full 80 piece orchestra [a feature on the making of this album is included on both formats] and a new book, also entitled The Great Pretender with matching artwork, in September.

Swedish metal act SKY OF RAGE, the other band featuring ASTRAL DOORS guitarist Joachim Nordlund, have announced they have parted ways with vocalist Staffan K. The band has released the following statement:

“Due to the fact that our singer Staffan K won't be able to do live gigs to the extent that we have planned, the band and Staffan has decided to part ways. We wish Staffan all the best in the future!

The guy that will replace Staffan is no one else but Tony Josefsson! Tony sang with us at our premier gig last week and we felt instantly that this guy would be great to roam the roads with!

Hopefully we'll soon meet in a town near you!”

Bassist Brent Ashley left STATIC-X earlier in the month. His final show with the band took place on September 1 at the House Of Blues in West Hollywood, California. He wrote on his Facebook page, "[I] wish things would have ended differently, but I'm very excited for what the future will bring." He added on Twitter, "Being the professional that I am, I won't call anyone out or point fingers as to why I left. But, if ya meet me in person … feel free to ask."

Original STATIC-X bassist Tony Campos — who is currently on the road with SOULFLY — issued a statement in July indicating that he had "no interest in working with [STATIC-X frontman] Wayne Static, now, or anytime in the foreseeable future."

Regarding his decision to resurrect STATIC-X, Wayne said, "I really just wanted to go back to old-school STATIC-X since the band has been gone for a few years. The last tour I was on I did a lot of my solo stuff, and I'm ready to get back to old-school STATIC-X stuff, which is actually new again."

STATIC-X's recent trek marked the band's first outing since they announced a hiatus in 2009.

Athough none of the other original members — Campos, Koichi Fukuda (guitar) and Nick Oshiro (drums) — are part of the new STATIC-X lineup, Tony previously said that he was supportive of his former bandmate's decision to reform the group, saying, "I'm proud of my years with STATIC-X, and want to see the name of the band stay alive and well. I hope that all of our fans will continue to support both Wayne and I in our individual endeavors."

CALIBAN's eighth studio album, "I Am Nemesis", entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 21.

"I Am Nemesis" was released in North America on February 28 via Century Media Records. The CD features guest appearances by Marcus Bischoff (HEAVEN SHALL BURN) and Mitch Lucker (SUICIDE SILENCE).

Lyrically, "I Am Nemesis" is a continuation of the band's last record, "Say Hello To Tragedy", and focuses on controversial and often overlooked world issues. Musically, lead guitarist Marc Görtz says, "The album breaks new soil without forgetting our roots. There are new influences such as shimmering guitar melodies and technical grooves with MESHUGGAH-like heaviness."

Former BLOOD STAIN CHILD vocalist Sophia recently checked in with the following update:
"A while ago, MEJIBRAY asked me to do a guest vocal appearance on one of their songs. They're one of the new Visual Kei bands I appreciate overall, so I thought it would be a cool idea to make this kind of collaboration. The song I took part in is called 'Black Baccarat'. Recordings were fun and I hope you will all enjoy the result!"
