EVANESCENCE has tapped Dean Karr (IRON MAIDEN, OZZY OSBOURNE, MARILYN MANSON) to direct the video for the song "My Heart Is Broken". The clip was filmed on December 1 and will make its online debut in January.

"My Heart Is Broken" comes off EVANESCENCE's self-titled third major label album, which sold 127,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's previous CD, "The Open Door", opened with 447,000 units back in October 2006 to debut at No. 1.

"The Open Door" has shifted 2.1 million copies in the United States so far, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

EVANESCENCE's debut album, "Fallen", has sold 7.6 million copies since its March 2003 release.

EVANESCENCE played its first concert in almost two years on August 17 at War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, performing four songs from the new disc and opening the show with "What You Want".

According to Devon Maloney of Billboard.biz, The End Records has secured a deal for over 50 titles from seminal, now-defunct Music For Nations label.

The catalog, which includes releases from artists like CRADLE OF FILTH, OPETH and GODFLESH, was made available digitally Thanksgiving week, to capitalize on Black Friday shopping. The physical versions will be issued over the course of several months starting January 31.

Launched in 1983 by Martin Hooker, Music For Nations established itself as a European leader in the rock and metal world, with early signings like METALLICA (who had three gold albums while on MFN), SLAYER and MEGADETH paving the way. As Music For Nations grew, the company expanded its operation to include not just licensed acts from the USA, but its own signings.

The End Records founder Andreas Katsambas tells Billboard.biz that the pairing of his label and the MFN catalog was a natural fit.

"I'm a European myself, so I grew up with a lot of those titles," Katsambas said. "I bought them when they were brand-new, so for me, it was intriguing that there was an opportunity now to help those same artists hopefully introduce them to a new audience in a different time."

South Florida-based female-fronted extreme metal band WYKKED WYTCH has inked a deal with Goomba Music for the release of its fifth full-length album, "The Ultimate Deception". Due on February 14, 2012, the follow-up to 2008's "Memories Of A Dying Whore" "continues where its predecessor left off and pushes the boundaries of extreme music as well as the legacy of WYKKED WYTCH," according to a press release.

Led by the demonic vocal assault of frontwoman Ipek, WYKKED WYTCH's sound is described as "a unique mixture of black, death, thrash metal with melody, technicality, and aggression which has gained them a strong cult following throughout the world."

"The Ultimate Deception" was recorded in April/May 2011 at Lambesis Studios in San Diego, California with producer Daniel Castleman (AS I LAY DYING, WINDS OF PLAGUE). The CD was mastered by Alan Douches (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER) at West West Side Music in New Windsor, New York. The cover artwork was created by Marcelo Vasco (DIMMU BORGIR, THE FACELESS).

"The Ultimate Deception" includes 10 tracks with a running time of 47 minutes — nine original songs and a cover of METALLICA's "Fade To Black". It marks the recording debut of lead guitarist/songwriter Nate Poulson, who composed nine "badass" tunes that add a whole new dimension and flavor to the band's constantly evolving sound. According to a press release, "the songs are heavy, technical, and melodic with each one standing on its own. Showcased on this release are vocalist Ipek's true abilities that drive the album. Not afraid to take chances, Ipek doesn't hold back and has stepped out of her comfort zone; moving from death growls to high pitched screams to operatic, and clean catchy choruses in the course of a single song. The intense and insane vocals are performed by 'one' woman, not three different vocalists. According to DailyMail.co.uk, a new phone app has been created to help people understand the infamous Brummie accent (a colloquial term for the inhabitants, accent and dialect of Birmingham, England), which legendary heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne is notorious for having.

The iBrummie app translates sayings from the famous second city twang into the Queen's English and says them out loud.

Manchester company Athernet came up with the idea after enjoying stunning success in Wigan, Lancashire, with iWiganese.

iBrummie will be available for free download on iPhones and Android phones on December 19.

In a 2003 episode of Ozzy and his family's smash MTV reality series "The Osbournes", the vocalist famously had problems with his then-new car, as the voice recognition system couldn't understand a word he said.

Former DRAGONFORCE singer ZP Theart is currently in the studio working on material for a new project that has yet to be officially unveiled. In a video message which can be seen below, he states, "We're busy tracking drums and we've got one crazy motherfucker in there that's been driving us mental all week."

Theart previously promised that his new band's material would "fucking hit [the listeners] in the face."

DRAGONFORCE parted ways with Theart in March 2010 "due to insurmountable differences of musical opinion," according to a statement released by the British extreme epic power metal band.

After entries from thousands of hopefuls across the globe, DRAGONFORCE in March welcomed 23-year-old Marc Hudson to the band.

Since the age of 16, Marc — who was born in Oxford, England — has been building his vocal skills gigging with bands in the U.K. underground scene, developing a powerful style with influences which include Bruce Dickinson, Michael Kiske and Sebastian Bach.

MEGADETH is among the nominees for the 54th annual Grammy Awards, which will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The band's tenth Grammy nomination is for its new single, "Public Enemy No. 1", off MEGADETH's latest album, "TH1RT3EN", which came out on November 1.

Relapse Records has announced the signing of North Carolina's finest psychedelic, stoner punks ASG. The band will enter the studio in February 2012 with producer Matt Hyde (SLAYER, CHILDREN OF BODOM, FU MANCHU) to begin recording its highly anticipated new album .

Impossible to pigeonhole, ASG has been wheelin' and dealin' in kick-ass rock 'n' roll since forming in 2001. The band has previously released four albums, including its most recent, critically acclaimed effort, "Win Us Over", in 2007.

ASG has gained a reputation for its wildly energetic live shows, and has found itself on the road with heavy hitters MOTÖRHEAD, THE SWORD, CKY, FU MANCHU, TORCHE and THE DWARVES, among others.

The first in a series of webisodes featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the recording sessions for "Reborn In Defiance", the much-anticipated new album from New York hardcore metal legends BIOHAZARD, can be seen below. The four-minute clip was filmed at the Firewater and Ocean Studios in Los Angeles, California.

Due on January 20, 2012, "Reborn In Defiance" will be made available via Nuclear Blast outside of North America, with a U.S. label partner soon to be announced. The band will celebrate the launch with a record-release party on January 17 at the Gramercy Theater in New York City before setting off on an extensive international tour.

Not only is "Reborn In Defiance" BIOHAZARD's first original lineup album in 18 years, but it also marks the last album recorded by the band before the departure of bassist and co-vocalist Evan Seinfeld. The effort remains a testament to the four founding members (Billy Graziadei, Bobby Hambel, Evan Seinfeld and Danny Schuler) and their unique chemistry.

Having last recorded and toured as the fundamental lineup with the release of "State Of The World Address" back in 1994, BIOHAZARD reformed with all four original members back in 2008 to commemorate the band's 20th anniversary. They went back out on the road together over the next two years, during which time inspiration struck.

To promote their new album, "Made In Germany 1995 - 2011", German industrial metallers RAMMSTEIN opened a mausoleum in front of O2 World, Berlin, Germany's biggest indoor arena, where they performed on November 25 and November 26. Fans congregated for a procession, including a horse-drawn hearse, which delivered the original death masks of the six bandmembers to the mausoleum. Inside the black cubic building, the busts were carefully placed among candles and a book of condolences was made available for fans to sign.

British thrashers ONSLAUGHT have announced that drummer Michael "Mic" Hourihan (DESECRATION, EXTREME NOISE TERROR) has now officially joined the band on a full-time basis.

Mic has been touring with the ONSLAUGHT since March 2011, and has already done over 50 shows with the band, including South American and European tours.

Commented ONSLAUGHT bassist Jeff Williams: "I have to say I am so fucking happy to have Mic playing full-time in ONSLAUGHT. Not only is he a really cool guy and a real pleasure to spend time with, but also without doubt the finest drummer that I have ever had the pleasure to play alongside. "Ghost Walking", a brand new song from Richmond, Virginia metallers LAMB OF GOD, can be streamed at MetalSucks.net. The track comes off the band's new album, "Resolution", which will be released in North America on January 24, 2012 via Epic Records (one day earlier internationally through Roadrunner Records). The CD was recorded at various studios in Virginia and New York with producer Josh Wilbur, who worked on the band's last effort, 2009's "Wrath".

During its 2012 world tour, LAMB OF GOD, in connection with Epic Records and 914 Films, will shoot a feature film documenting fans and their personal stories of how they use the band's music to cope with their everyday lives.

"Wrath" sold around 68,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 2 (behind TAYLOR SWIFT's "Fearless") on The Billboard 200 chart.

LAMB OF GOD performed at the sixth edition of D-TOX Rockfest on June 17 in Montebello, Quebec, Canada. This marked the group's first and only 2011 appearance.

Kenneth Lance Patterson (a.k.a. "Willie Hicks"), bassist for the West Texas "southern oilfield trucker stoner" band PUMPJACK, passed away suddenly on November 9, 2011. He was 42 years old.

A longtime friend of the late "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott (PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN) and Dimebag's brother Vinnie Paul, Patterson was a member of the group GASOLINE, which Dimebag and PUMPJACK vocalist Thurber Mingus founded as a fun, alcohol-fueled side project for "good friends and anyone who would dare to risk having their ears burned off by listening."

PUMPJACK took part in the 2000 Ozzfest and they opened for several national acts, including PANTERA, ANTHRAX and W.A.S.P.

Lance Patterson is survived by his wife, Nancy Patterson; stepchildren Tres and Lauren; his parents, Ken and Sylvia Patterson; his brother and sister-in-law, Monty and Chali Patterson; and his niece and nephew, Abby and Logan Patterson.

A funeral service was held on December 1 at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel.

South Carolina-based extreme technical death metallers NILE have finished recording the drums for their new album for an early 2012 release. Guitarist/vocalist Karl Sanders states, George [Kollias, drums], Dallas [Toler-Wade, guitar/vocals], [producer] Neil Kernon and I spent a week with Bob Moore at the Soundlab in Columbia, South Carolina tracking drums. We were expecting a long grueling session — some of this material is very compositionally challenging and technically demanding — but George knocked it out, finishing a full week ahead of schedule.

"Oh my God. Some of the drumming on this record will be boggling people's minds for years to come.

"At the moment we are back in Greenville, and will commence tracking guitars any day now."

"Those Whom The Gods Detest", the latest album from NILE, sold 3,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 160 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD landed at position No. 3 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Produced and mixed by Neil Kernon (NEVERMORE, CANNIBAL CORPSE, QUEENSRŸCHE), along with a drum-recording job by Erik Rutan (CANNIBAL CORPSE, VITAL REMAINS, GOATWHORE), "Those Whom the Gods Detest" features the band's strongest production and perhaps its best material to date. The cover artwork was created by Michal "Xaay" Loranc, whom NILE guitarist/vocalist Karl Sanders had previously worked with on his second solo album, "Saurian Exorcisms".

Drummer Mike Mangini of progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER has issued the following update:

"I seriously played my two best shows/solos [on December 1 in San Diego, California and on December 2 in Anaheim, California] while being the sickest I've been in 20-30 years. But not enough to jeopardize me too much or affect the show negatively. I don't know how that happens.

Finland's STRATOVARIUS recently announced that drummer Jörg Michael has opted to leave the band after 15 years behind the kit for personal reasons. They have now issued the following message to the fans:

As previously reported, Stratovarius will perform in Guatemala, at Teatro de Bellas Artes in Guatemala City, on January 31st, 2012. This will now be the final show for drummer Jörg Michael, after 15 years with Stratovarius. Prior to the announcement of this date, is was expected that Jörg's final show with the band would be in Mexico, at Circo Volador in Mexico City, on January 28th.

Jörg joined the band in 1995 and the first Stratovarius album he played on was Episode (1996). He played on nine albums and performed nearly 1,000 shows with the band.

"The rest of us just has to accept Jörg's decision with a lot of sadness and wish him all the best for the future. But we can also assure that the band will still go on", says the singer Timo Kotipelto.

The band and Jörg are not going completely separate ways though, since Jörg will still be working for the band with his booking agency Twisted Talent Concerts.

Kotipelto continues: "Our long journey of over 15 years together has not ended yet, as Jörg remains among our background forces - and we couldn't be more happy about that. Not only has he been a great drummer but also a close friend and a true professional. We're honoured to have Jörg by our side for this farewell Tour. We can't wait to rock with our 'German Steamroller' one last time! These shows will be unforgettable for all of us."

Legendary Florida death metal behemoths OBITUARY have issued the following brief update:

German death metal tank DAWN OF DISEASE have issued the following update:

Bavaria, Germany-based metallers FAREWELL TO ARMS have signed with Massacre Records.

Says the label: "Melodic, uncompromising, technically ambitious, versatile and curious - that's how you could characterize the band. Their goal is to define themselves without following any trends: Farewell To Arms are not one of those typical metal bands and they won't play the music you've heard a thousand times before! They have a unique style, which combines a lot of death metal, thrash metal, progressive and hardcore elements."

Farewell To Arms' first 4-track EP, Exhalation, was produced by Corni Bartels (HACKNEYED, END OF GREEN), and was released in late 2010. After numerous live gigs, also at various festivals, Farewell To Arms were also finalists of this year's New Blood Awards. So they also played at the Summer Breeze Open Air with DAVIDIAN, who are now their label mates.

In spring 2012 Farewell To Arms are going to enter the Weltraumstudios in Munich to record their debut album with Corni Bartels.

French terrors LOS DISIDENTES DEL SUCIO MOTEL and FLASHFALCON have teamed up for a split release, entitled East Side Story. The artwork, which was conceived by Bartosch Salmanski, can be seen below:

The album was mixed at Warmaudio Studio, and then mastered by Glen Robinson (AC/DC, RAMONES, IGGY POP).

East Side Story will be released on March 9th via French label Deadlight Entertainment on a very limited vinyl edition.

The brand new tracks, 'Ridin' With The Mavericks' by FlashFalcon, and 'The Ones' by Los Disidentes Del Sucio Motel are available for streaming via Deadlight Entertainment's Bandcamp page at this location.

Chaos Records has announced the return of Mexican dark melodic metallers DIES IRAE.

The band's new album, Secret Veils Of Passion, will be released on January 9th, 2012 and features a new musical approach from the band. Inclusive to the album are a 12-page booklet and guest appearances from Tomas Petterson (ORDO ROSARIUS EQUILIBRIO), and Marios Iliopoulus (NIGHTRAGE).
