EARTHTONE9 Release New Single / Video "Navison Record"

EARTHTONE9 Release New Single / Video "Navison Record"

British metal band earthtone9 has unveiled their intense, thrash-infused new single, "Navison Record". The track is the second release from their upcoming album, In Resonance Nexus, scheduled to drop on June 21st through Candlelight.

Vocalist Karl Middleton on the new single: "'Navison Record' is an absolute rager. It's us really leaning into our thrash roots and going for it. The song is certainly different from et9's regular fare, but that's because we wanted to include some songs on this album that really gave our fans (and people who are new to earthtone9) some different looks. No point in just retreading the past! This tune is a real pit-friendly monster, and we just cannot wait to play it live."

earthtone9 is rightly hailed by those who know as one of the most forward-thinking, clever, musically wise, and creatively smart in the history of British metal. Emerging in the late ‘90s as nu-metal was beginning to surge, their more nuanced palette and intelligent approach saw them hailed as something special and excitingly against the grain from the very beginning. Making an album a year between 1998 and 2000 – beginning with their expertly crafted Lo-def(inition) Discord debut and culminating in 2000’s staggering Arc’tan’gent – it was a work rate as intense as the music was uniformly brilliant.

After splitting in 2002 the band made a surprise return in 2013 with the crowdfunded album, IV. Following this they made only occasional appearances in the live arena (including at the ArcTanGent Festival, which purloined its name from their third album!), before once again seeming to disappear on hiatus.

Now, 11 years on from their last record, they present In Resonance Nexus, a thrilling work of brains and muscle that not only stokes a fire but sees the band's core members – vocalist Karl Middleton and guitarists Owen Packard and Joe Roberts – rediscovering and reconnecting with what makes them so special. In Resonance Nexus is the heaviest, fiercest, most heightened record they have ever made; a startling combination of almost feral intensity and the latter-day songwriting chops they displayed on the IV album.

“In Resonance Nexus, as a title, is saying that we’ve found the core and the essence of the band again,” says Karl. “We were digging deep to find common musical ground, and between Joe and Owen, and I, it really felt like there was a resonance there. It feels like we've landed on a really legitimate, 21st-century version of the band. We were asking, ‘Why are we doing this?’ and having a very authentic answer.”

Across the 10 featured tracks the band’s signature sound is present and correct but now expanded with touches of everything from doom, to black metal, to shoegaze and deathcore.

Gathering together almost 40 songs before carefully choosing what should make the album, In Resonance Nexus is a record that’s been slowly and patiently crafted and carved out by artists prepared to throw away anything that didn’t quite have the desired effect. The results – with drum duties taken on in the studio by Bullet For My Valentine’s Jason Bowld – are a collection where every dynamic, moment of heaviness, thoughtful passage, and element of aggression is perfectly placed.

In Resonance Nexus tracklisting:

"The Polyphony Of Animals"
"Navison Record"
"Under The Snake"
"Oceanic Drift"
"Black Swan Roulette"
"Lash Of The Tongues"
"Etiquette Of Distortion"
"Observe Your Course" (featuring Malli Malpass of One Dice / "MetalHead" on the BBC Show The Ranganation)
"Third Mutuality"
"Strength Is My Weakness"

"Oceanic Drift" video:

The album was produced by British production master Lewis Johns at The Ranch in Southampton, a collaboration that brought the band’s vision further to life.

“Lewis is unbelievable, super creative, super enthusiastic,” says Karl. “We were attracted to the stuff he’s done with bands like Employed To Serve, Svalbard, and Rolo Tomassi. He has a style, but you can also tell in everything he does that he enhances the vision of the band, rather than just imposing his thing. He was incredible in bringing the intensity and drive back into earthtone9.”

Completing the creative team is Colin Marks of Rain Song Design who created the stunning album art that runs throughout the release.

More than anything, In Resonance Nexus represents the idea that some things are just too good and too special to lie perpetually dormant. With something as pure as earthtone9, that desire to create never truly leaves you. Eventually, even after a decade or more, it wants to come out again.

“For me, this album is about persistence in heart and knowing that you can pursue stuff and do it to a high standard at any point in time,” says Karl. “It’s more vital and urgent - like the absolute distillation of what we do. This feels like a definitive statement.”

Don’t call it a comeback – In Resonance Nexus is simply the next chapter in earthtone9’s story. One that’s worth the decade wait.

ERIK GRÖNWALL Performs AEROSMITH Classic "Dream On"; Video

ERIK GRÖNWALL Performs AEROSMITH Classic "Dream On"; Video

Former Skid Row frontman, Erik Grönwall, has shared the video below, featuring his performance of Aerosmith's classic 70s power ballad, "Dream On":

Grönwall previously released the clip below, featuring his performance of "I Will Always Love You", originally written and performed by country legend Dolly Parton, and later covered by late R&B/pop singer Whitney Houston, who made the song a global smash hit.

Skid Row shared the following message, announcing that they had parted ways with Grönwall:

"Today Skid Row and Erik Grönwall jointly announce that Erik will step down as the vocalist for Skid Row. Longtime friend Lzzy Hale of Halestorm will be taking over vocal duties for the upcoming scheduled four concerts. Erik has decided that the travel and rigors of the road is not conducive to his overall health and recovery, and wants to focus on a lifestyle that is more amenable for his well-being, healing and family. Skid Row is proud of what they have created and accomplished with Erik over the past two years and we wish nothing but the best to him and his health. To celebrate the last two years the band will be releasing a live album that perfectly captures this moment of time in the band's 35+ year history, to be announced soon."

Grönwall took to social media to explain his decision to leave the band, writing: "Yes,  I have decided to leave Skid Row. The main reason being that it’s proved difficult to prioritize my health and full recovery as the lead singer of the band.

"In 2021 I was undergoing treatment against leukemia and that gave me a superpower called perspective. I decided to use that perspective and write down the values I wanted to live by for the rest of my life. On top of that list it says “health first”. I’ve had to look at that list a lot of times this last year, questioning if I’m really living according to my values. At the end of the day I realized the answer was no.

"As a result of the treatments and transplant my immune system was impaired. You can think of my immune system as a 4 year old kid bringing home all kinds of viruses from preschool. It takes awhile to build up that resistance again but my immune system is getting stronger every day. However I’m still doing regular check ups (blood tests) at the hematology department in Sweden, which has proved challenging while keeping up with the Skid Row schedule. I have way too much respect for my medical history to push myself to the limit.

"I love Skid Row, I have nothing but respect for the guys in the band but I love and respect my health more. I understand that Skid Row is a touring band but like I told the guys: 'if I can’t prioritize my health, then I’m not the right guy for the job'.

"Please note, I’m NOT sick and it’s not that I don’t want to tour. I love being on the road. And of course we have tried to find the right balance together but at the end of the day I realized that it was better for me to step aside.

"So now I’m going to focus on my full recovery, and come back stronger than ever. Meanwhile I’m finalizing my biography. And I’m going to start writing my own music again.

"Lastly, once again thank you to everyone who accepted me as the singer of this iconic band.

"Always remember that no job, no money, no fame is worth your health or well being. Health first always. I owe this decision to the guy in the second picture and I’m proud to be able to say that I kept my promise to him. Health first!"

Grönwall issued a video message to the fans expressing his gratitude for their support, and goes into detail regarding his decision to leave Skid Row.

PHIL DEMMEL Defends KERRY KING Over Some Fans' Claim That JEFF HANNEMAN Wrote All The Good SLAYER Songs

PHIL DEMMEL Defends KERRY KING Over Some Fans' Claim That JEFF HANNEMAN Wrote All The Good SLAYER Songs

On a recent episode of the "The Metal Forge" podcast, Phil Demmel spoke about the upcoming debut album from Kerry King's solo project. "From Hell I Rise" will be released on May 17 via Reigning Phoenix Music. All material for the LP was written by the 59-year-old SLAYER guitarist, who was accompanied during the recording sessions by guitarist Demmel, drummer Paul Bostaph (SLAYER),bassist Kyle Sanders (HELLYEAH) and vocalist Mark Osegueda (DEATH ANGEL). Helming the sessions at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles last year was producer Josh Wilbur, who has previously worked with KORN, LAMB OF GOD, AVENGED SEVENFOLD and BAD RELIGION, among others.

Regarding "From Hell I Rise" and King's future plans, Demmel said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I get kind of spoonfed information as it comes down, and that's understandable. This thing has been kind of hush for four-plus years now. And I'm given information on a need-to-know basis, and I'm totally fine with that; that's what I signed up for. This is Kerry's venture. This is Kerry's band. And I play lead guitar for Kerry.

"So the record comes out in May," he continued. "Almost all the songs are pretty new. I think that there was a holdover track — one or two — from the [SLAYER] 'Repentless' session that he had. But the songs are strong. I think people will be — not shocked, but kind of like… Everybody's on this whole, 'Jeff [Hanneman, late SLAYER guitarist] wrote all the good [SLAYER] songs. Kerry's songs suck,' kind of…"

Asked how those kinds of comments affect him, Demmel said: "Well, it doesn't affect me at all. I mean, I didn't write any of the material. I, of course, want it to be accepted well. I like it, and Kerry's my friend. I want his creation to be met with agreeing terms or people that like it and people that will give it a chance instead of, like I said, 'Jeff wrote all the good [SLAYER] songs.' Well, if you take away the songs [for SLAYER] that Kerry wrote too, and you have half a record or whatever. And they're not all filler songs that he wrote either. So Kerry's more than capable of writing iconic riffs. If I played you some of the [SLAYER] riffs he wrote you, you'd go, 'Oh, yeah.' So I think that this record is gonna wake people up to that fact that Kerry, he's been the guy that's been making [SLAYER] happen for the past — shit, I don't know — 20 years or however long. And I equate it to — not really on the same level, but there was a point when Gene Simmons was getting away from KISS and acting and doing all this other shit. And meanwhile, Paul [Stanley] is still back there waving the flag, doing all the work. And Kerry did a lot of work for [SLAYER]. He played all the bass on the records, and towards the end, I think he wrote most of the lyrics. On the demos that I heard, he's singing, and it sounds like SLAYER. I mean, Kerry was SLAYER towards the end there."

On the topic of "From Hell I Rise"'s musical direction, Demmel said: "I don't wanna give too much away about the record, but it's a thrash record, but it's not just blazing fast. There's slow parts and grinding parts and crunchy parts. And Mark sings his ass off on this thing, man; Mark sounds so fucking good. And Josh Wilbur doing the record, Paul's parts, you're hearing everything that he does, and he does these incredible fills and double-bass parts. And the riffs are awesome. And I told Kerry this afterwards. These are my favorite leads of his. He spent some time on his solos, and they're really good. I said, 'What happened?' And he's all, 'I had time to work on 'em. I'm usually in the studio writing lyrics and the solos are the last thing that I do when I get in the studio.' And he had my solos for a bit too. There were some that he did first, and then there were some that I did first. And I think that I bring a different melodic sense to the solos than Jeff or Gary [Holt, SLAYER guitarist], for that matter, to his music, and I think that it might've opened him up in this direction maybe a little bit. Maybe not — he's pretty set in what he does — but I think that the two of us together play off well. There's a couple of times when we go back to back, and it's pretty cool. I think people are gonna dig it."

Nearly three months ago, Demmel shared an Instagram Live video in which he spoke about how he ended up being approached to join Kerry's new band. He said: "The way that this came about on my end was SLAYER was on its way through the [San Francisco] Bay Area [during the band's farewell tour] and they played San Jose. I think it was with maybe — NAPALM DEATH opened that one and LAMB OF GOD, and maybe even TESTAMENT played. I think it was maybe the last day of [that leg of] the tour. And this was maybe the summer of [20]18. And I knew that I was on my way out of MACHINE HEAD, and I had approached Kerry kind of, like, 'Hey, what are you doing after SLAYER ends? What do you got going?' And he was kind of, like, 'Ah, I'm sure I'm gonna keep playing with Paul. I'm probably gonna ask [then-SLAYER guitarist] Gary [Holt to play with me in my new band as well].' And that was about it. And so fast forward to my announcing that I was quitting MACHINE HEAD [in September 2018], and the same day Kerry shoots me a text, like, 'That's why you were asking me what I was doing next.' So it was no secret to Kerry that that's what I was interested in doing after. And when the call came to fill in for Gary [at several SLAYER shows in Europe in December 2018] and the way that I came through in that spot really showed those guys a lot. So, Kerry [and me], I remember we at a Raiders game against Denver, which was probably 2019, that he had said, 'Hey, this is what I'm thinking,' and where he committed to me being in the band. So it was pretty fucking awesome."

Phil continued: "So I've been waiting since August of 2019 to be able to announce [that I was in Kerry's new band]. A couple of people knew. [Kerry] wanted it to be a secret, so we didn't kind of share. So that was four and a half years of holding on to the secret. Some would say that it was the best worst-kept secret or the worst best-kept secret. But we're all pretty stoked to get this started."

Regarding how "From Hell I Rise" came together and his contributions to the album, Phil said: "Kerry wrote all the music. He wrote all the lyrics. They had pretty much all of it done for a while. Him and Paul worked on everything. He sent me parts. It was the slowest of the slowest rolls that I've ever been involved with, just due to the quarantine and the singer search. So it took a bit, and it's taken a bit for all of the reasons. I mean, there was a reason for all of it. So it got to a point to where all of us, the guys in the band, were, like, 'Have you heard anything?' 'No, I haven't heard anything.' It was almost like the swimming instructor when you're learning how to swim, and then the instructor keeps backing up. 'Come on, you can make it.' And you're swimming and you're swimming and you're swimming, and they keep backing up. And [it was] all worth it. They recorded the record. I was structuring solos at home. I have a home studio, and I was constructing my leads. And I had 'em done for a bit. And he'd give me a couple of more: 'Hey, why don't you see if you can come up with something over here?' And I wrote a couple of little harmony bits that you don't hear a lot in SLAYER. So I think that that's what sets this band apart, other than Mark's vocals, of course, is the melody in some of my solos. I wrote a few things and I sent 'em to him, and the solo you hear in 'Idle Hands' is the first one that I wrote. And so I had to ask him, I said, 'Are you gonna be okay with my style?' It's kind of different than from what [late SLAYER guitarist] Jeff [Hanneman] and Gary had done, and he was digging it. So I was glad that that was [the case], 'cause it's kind of what I am and what I can bring."

In a February 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, Kerry stated about how Phil came to his new project: "Demmel came out with SLAYER at the end of 2018 to fill in for Gary for four shows. What he did for us, I don't think I could do for any band on the planet. He had basically two days to watch [SLAYER] play so he could know where the pyro was and the tempo of our set. I couldn't do that for JUDAS PRIEST, and I'm a giant PRIEST guy. With this, Bostaph said, 'Hey, what about Demmel [for the new band]?' I texted him. He's like, 'Yeah, I just got done with MACHINE HEAD the day before yesterday.' I went, 'Well, that's kind of perfect.'"

Asked how he and Phil play off each other, Kerry said: "He's more technical than I thought he was. He comes from California thrash like I do. He'd be, like, 'Do you think this solo is too melodic?' I'm, like, 'It's your lead. Unless it's offensively lame, I'm not going to squash it.' I like what he brought to the record, even though it wasn't much, since I didn't let him play rhythm guitar."

KERRY KING will be special guest on the upcoming LAMB OF GOD/MASTODON North American "Ashes Of Leviathan" co-headline tour. The six-week run will launch on July 19 in Grand Prairie, Texas and will wrap on August 31 in Omaha, Nebraska. KERRY KING will make the band's 2024 concert debut in early May.

IAN HILL Looks Back On JUDAS PRIEST's TIM 'RIPPER' OWENS Era: 'The Problem Was He Wasn't ROB HALFORD'

IAN HILL Looks Back On JUDAS PRIEST's TIM 'RIPPER' OWENS Era: 'The Problem Was He Wasn't ROB HALFORD'

In a new interview with Mark Frankhouse of the 107.7 RKR radio station, JUDAS PRIEST bassist Ian Hill reflected on the two albums the band recorded with singer Tim "Ripper" Owens, 1997's "Jugulator" and 2001's "Demolition". Asked what the "transition" was like from longtime singer Rob Halford to Owens, Hill said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "It was pretty simple, really. We didn't really want another name per se, if you know what I mean. Because they always bring their baggage with them, and it really would change the band dramatically. And we didn't really want that; we wanted to continue in the vein that we were in. So, we wanted someone who could pretty much cover what we were already doing. And Ripper was an obvious choice. He had a tremendous voice, and he was actually playing in a PRIEST tribute band at the time, so he knew most of the songs, which was a bonus. So, we went with Tim. And it was a pretty easy process. Tim's a great bloke, an easygoing fella, so it was an easy process, really. But the problem was he wasn't Rob, and that's what people wanted — they wanted the trademark lineup. And in the end, Rob sort of started to hint that he wouldn't mind coming back and whatever, and I think Tim, he agreed. He was a fan of the band as well, and he could see the point. So even that was a comparatively smooth process as well, when Rob came back."

Hill went on to say that "there was some fine material" on PRIEST's two Owens-era albums, "especially 'Demolition' — I think 'Demolition' was a fine album. But it was what it was," he explained. "And, like I say, we weren't making a great deal of headway either, and neither was Rob [with his solo career]. It was a good idea all around to get back together with Rob. It just made so much sense. Our fans wanted it, and in the end, we wanted it, and even Ripper wanted it. So, it made a lot of sense. And Rob came back, and we stepped straight back to where we [left off with] 'Painkiller', and it went off from there."

This past January, Owens told The Metal Voice that if JUDAS PRIEST "released 'Jugulator' and 'Demolition' right now, [the fan and media response] would be totally different, in my opinion. Because metal was so bad [back in the 1990s]. Bands were playing in smaller places. At the end of JUDAS PRIEST, on the 'Painkiller' tour, they were playing in front of a thousand people in Europe and stuff; I mean, it was a totally different kind of an animal. In 2000 or so, when it started coming back, you started seeing it. Now you get [IRON] MAIDEN and PRIEST out there still selling out these big concerts — well, MAIDEN selling out their really big concerts. And I think those records… It's hard to replace somebody like [Rob Halford]. I don't care how great the records would have been. [The fans] still want Rob, just like people still yell that they want Ken [former JUDAS PRIEST and current KK'S PRIEST guitarist Kenneth 'K.K.' Downing] in PRIEST. I mean, that's a normal thing."

Owens was also asked if his lack of songwriting contributions to PRIEST was primarily the result of the fact that he was the "new guy" in the band, Owens said: "Oh, exactly. You're joining JUDAS PRIEST. At the end, I did wanna write. I came to the table with a few songs; 'Scream Machine' [which appeared on the 2006 album from his BEYOND FEAR project] was one of them, actually, which would have probably been one of the better JUDAS PRIEST songs on those records. But it's JUDAS PRIEST. It's K.K. You know what I mean? You just go with it, and I was fine with how everything went. I loved the records, and I learned a lot from working with Glenn [Tipton, PRIEST guitarist] and Ken, and working in the studio. I learned a lot."

Last September, Owens spoke to Cassius Morris about his relationship with Halford. He said: "I think it made people very angry that there never really was [a rivalry between us]. I mean, there was a little bit of things said back in the day, but we've always been friends and I've always respected him, obviously. And he's always talked well about me in the press. So I think it does make people mad that that they're that we don't hate each other and we say bad things. But we definitely consider each other friends and there's respect there."

Asked if he thinks there is a chance of PRIEST staging a one-off reunion concert featuring all current and former members of the band, including Owens and Downing, Tim said: "Should there be? Yes. Will there be? I don't think so. I don't think they would ever do it. They don't seem to make those kind of good decisions, so I don't think it would happen. I mean, this is a band that went to one guitar player [in 2022]" he added, referencing the fact that PRIEST announced it would tour with one guitarist before quickly reversing its decision and going back to the two-guitar format. "So I really don't think that that it would happen."

He continued: "I think it would be great if they got Ken back and they did a tour. I think the world would love to see that especially. Me? It definitely is not gonna happen, I wouldn't think. But I think fans would love it. I think it'd be great and it would be fun… but I don't think it'll ever happen."

Three years ago, Owens told Pierre Gutiérrez of Rock Talks that "it [didn't] make sense" JUDAS PRIEST to not perform any songs from the two albums he recorded with the band — the aforementioned "Jugulator" and "Demolition" — during the group's 50th-anniversary tour. "I mean, it was JUDAS PRIEST," he said. "Listen, you're celebrating 50 years of JUDAS PRIEST, but you're leaving out 10 years of it. The thing is Rob would sound so awesome… Could you imagine Rob singing 'Burn In Hell'? Holy crap, it would sound fantastic. So, there's nothing wrong with sticking 'Burn In Hell' in a setlist. It was right in the middle there, so… I don't know. But they have a great setlist to play right now, so it's pretty awesome to see it.

"It's amazing JUDAS PRIEST has never done it," Owens continued. "They don't always have to do it, but it's amazing that they've never done it. I mean, Rob supposedly has never heard my era of JUDAS PRIEST, and it's kind of all right because I've never actually listened to his solo stuff except FIGHT, so we're kind of even on it. After FIGHT, I've not really listened to his stuff either, so it's kind of all right.

"When I was in JUDAS PRIEST, I didn't listen to a lot of stuff so I really didn't listen to the HALFORD stuff — unless somebody had it on somewhere," Tim explained.

"I love Rob — Rob is a friend and a mentor and an idol. Rob Halford and Ronnie James Dio are the two guys that really inspired me. So it's nothing against anything, really. It's not that I didn't want to [listen to his solo stuff]; I just never did. It was kind of, like, 'I'm in JUDAS PRIEST. There's no need.' But after I left, I listened to the JUDAS PRIEST records. Whether I liked them or not, I listened to 'em."

In September 2021, Rob was asked by Classic Rock magazine if he has listened to "Demolition" and "Jugulator". "No. I still haven't," he said. "This might sound selfish, but because it's not me singing, I'm not attracted to it. I sound like a twat, but I'm really just not interested. And that's no disrespect to Ripper, 'cause he's a friend of mine."

Halford went on to say that he first met Owens "when the band went through Ohio, [and Tim] came to the show. Was it awkward? Not in the least," he said. "We gave each other a hug. He's a massive PRIEST fan, and when the opportunity came for me to go back, he was, like, 'Thumbs up, it's great. I'm happy for the band, I'm happy for Rob.' I respect his chops; he's a great singer."

Owens joined PRIEST in 1996 after being discovered when the band's drummer, Scott Travis, was given a videotape of him performing with the PRIEST cover act BRITISH STEEL. JUDAS PRIEST at the time was seeking a replacement for Halford.

In a 2000 interview, Halford explained why he was reluctant to hear "Jugulator". "It's just too difficult for me to listen to the band when I'm not in it, and that's nothing to do with taking a shot at Ripper," he said. "I just can't listen to it. It's just psychological. I should just put it on and listen to the fucking thing, but then if I do, [interviewers] will say, 'Well have you heard it?', and I'll go, 'Yeah', and then you'll go, 'What do you think?', and I don't want to do that. I don't want to be put in that situation. I just love all the things that I've done with the band and I'm happy to be a part of that great legacy and that's all. You want to treat it with respect because that's what it deserves."

In October 2020, Halford told "The SDR Show" that he would "absolutely" be open to performing material from "Demolition" and "Jugulator" with PRIEST. "Those two albums are just as valid as everything else in the PRIEST catalog," he explained. "So who knows? That day may yet come."

In 2019, Owens told Ultimate Guitar that he believes his era of JUDAS PRIEST is largely overlooked. "Yeah, I think it definitely deserves more [attention]," he said. "I mean, they don't do anything. [Laughs] It's kind of amazing that they just totally erased it that they won't play... I mean, 'Burn In Hell' [off 'Jugulator'], the crowd would like to hear 'Burn In Hell'.

"They don't have to give me a tribute or anything, but it would be nice to play a song from... You know, that was a pretty big thing, I did two studio records, two live records, and a DVD, starting from '96 to 2004. So it's kind of crazy that it's just been erased and they won't even play a song from it live, because it is JUDAS PRIEST."

In October 2019, JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Richie Faulkner said that "Hell Is Home" is one of his favorite songs from the Owens era. The PRIEST guitarist, who joined the band in 2011 as the replacement for K.K. Downing, offered his opinion during a live video chat. He said: "I was listening to the Ripper albums the other day, and 'Hell Is Home' is such a great track. It's really heavy and the vocal melody is really great. I think Ripper sings it really well. It's probably one of my favorite PRIEST songs of the Ripper era. 'Hell Is Home' — I really like that."

"Demolition" and "Jugulator" are included on "50 Heavy Metal Years Of Music", JUDAS PRIEST's limited-edition box set which contains every official live and studio album to date plus 13 unreleased discs. Released in October 2021, it is the most extensive release of previously unreleased music the band has made from its vast archives.

GLENN HUGHES: 'Offstage Maybe I'm Full Of Fear, But Onstage I'm Not'

GLENN HUGHES: 'Offstage Maybe I'm Full Of Fear, But Onstage I'm Not'

In a new interview with Metal & Rock Zone, legendary English rock singer Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION),who celebrated his 72nd birthday last August, was asked about the fact that he is still able to hit all the high notes during his live performances. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Yeah, I'm very grateful. I sleep a lot. I drink a lot of water. I exercise my vocals. I do a lot of warm-ups. And the biggest thing for me is no fear. You may see some singers or musicians that are riddled with fear, and it stops them from being in the moment. For me, offstage maybe I'm full of fear, but onstage I'm not. I don't think about it."

Hughes previously addressed the fact that his voice has held up so well in light of his well-documented substance abuse issues in a 2019 interview with TotalRock. At the time, he said about the secret to his incredible vocal delivery: "The answer to that is 'F-E-A-R.' 'Fuck everything and run.' 'Fear.' Let's just say my dear friend [English football player] Alan Shearer when he was taking penalties. If he was one millimeter of scared, he would hit the bar and he wouldn't score. When I enter the stage, when I walk on that stage, the fear is gone. Now, when I leave that stage, I'm liable to fall over. I'm liable to fall down. I'm liable to do a bunch of things I shouldn't be doing. But when I'm on stage, I'm so full of gratitude that I have no fear of anything at all. Anything. I'm just so full of gratitude."

A month ago, Hughes revealed on his social media that he had "finished writing new music" for his upcoming solo album.

The long-awaited follow-up to Hughes's 2016 solo album "Resonate" will be recorded in June in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Glenn, who recently played a couple of shows with his supergroup BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, previously discussed his plans to record a new solo album last October 2023 in an interview with Brazilian music journalist Igor Miranda. At the time, he said: "I am preparing to go in the studio next year, sometime in the summer. I'm preparing the songs in the next couple of months. I have a few ideas, and when I go in the studio, I'll be ready to go."

Asked how "Resonate" has aged for him musically since its release eight years ago, Glenn said: "I love the album. It's one of my favorite albums. I think a lot of people across the world, the rock fans love that album. I was at home writing that album and I went to Copenhagen and I had a really great time making that album. And the next one hopefully will be as strong."

In September 2023, Glenn told the "Iron City Rocks" podcast about where he draws his lyrical inspiration from nowadays: "I don't write about politics. I write about the human condition. I write about how are we feeling, what are we going through, are we going to get through this — you know, acceptance, staying in the present moment. This is the big thing for me. People call it woke, awakening, if you will… For me, it's all about staying present in this moment right now, and I'm writing about that."

"Resonate" was released in November 2016 via Frontiers Music Srl. It featured Glenn's then-live solo band members, Søren Andersen (guitars and co-producer),Pontus Engborg (drums) and Lachy Doley (keyboards),in addition to longtime friend Chad Smith (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS),who joined them in the studio for the opening and closing numbers.

Last year, Hughes launched his solo tour under the banner "Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live – Celebrating The 50th Anniversary Of The Album Burn". During the trek, Glenn is performing DEEP PURPLE's legendary rock album "Burn" and also running through DEEP PURPLE MKIII and MKIV songs.

Hughes spent key years of his career as the beloved bassist and vocalist of DEEP PURPLE, appearing on the classic albums "Burn", "Stormbringer" and "Come Taste The Band".

Glenn's current solo band features Søren Andersen (guitar),Ash Sheehan (drums) and Bob Fridzema (keyboards).

Hughes, who was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2016 along with fellow DEEP PURPLE members Ritchie Blackmore, David Coverdale, Jon Lord, Rod Evans, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover and Ian Paice, spent more than three years recording and touring as the frontman of the supergroup THE DEAD DAISIES.

Glenn's BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION supergroup with guitarist Joe Bonamassa, drummer Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN) and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (DREAM THEATER, ALICE COOPER, BILLY IDOL) will release its fifth album, "V", in June.

IN FLAMES Announces Anniversary Vinyl Reissues

IN FLAMES Announces Anniversary Vinyl Reissues

IN FLAMES and Nuclear Blast Records have announced exclusive anniversary vinyl re-issues of the band's beloved classic albums "Lunar Strain" (30th anniversary),"Colony" (25th anniversary),"Soundtrack To Your Escape" (20th anniversary) and "Siren Charms" (10th anniversary),all of which have been out of print and in high demand. The new editions are scheduled to be released on July 19, 2024.

2023 marked the beginning of a new era for IN FLAMES with the release of the band's fourteenth studio album "Foregone" — a new masterpiece from a band whose creative output changed the course and direction of modern metal. The year also marked the reissue of four seminal titles from the band's extensive catalog, namely "A Sense Of Purpose" (2008) (15th-anniversary edition),"Reroute To Remain" (2002),"Come Clarity" (2006) and "Sounds Of A Playground Fading" (2011).

To continue the upwards tide, 2024 marks the reissue of four more influential titles. The 2024 reissues feature all original art with a few, careful touch-ups. All releases have been re-mastered specific for vinyl by Justin Shturtz at the legendary Sterling Sound Studio in Nashville, Tennessee. Featuring different colorways, all records will be pressed on heavyweight 180g vinyl and will feature the instantly recognizable etching of the Jesterhead logo on side D (ex. "Lunar Strain" and "Colony").

IN FLAMES has extensive touring plans for 2024, with a full U.S. tour with GATECREEPER and CREEPING DEATH just around the corner and a European tour with ARCH ENEMY and SOILWORK in the autumn.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone India, Anders Fridén, frontman of Swedish melodic metallers IN FLAMES, spoke about the band's latest three additions: Tanner Wayne on drums, Chris Broderick on guitar and Liam Wilson on bass. Asked what it is like bringing different people into the band, even if it's just for the touring lineup, Anders said: "All the guys that you mentioned — Tanner and Chris and Liam — are in the band, so it's not just hired people. They are part of the band, but it's Björn [Gelotte, IN FLAMES guitarist] and me that write the music and arrange it. That's what we do and it will not change. But the guys are very important to us and I think the way we sound live, we never sounded better.

"I don't mean that to be disrespectful to anyone who has ever been in the band, but these are really professional musicians and very skilled at what they do, and they all come from different backgrounds," he continued. "Tanner comes from a more hardcore punkish era, and Chris, obviously, with his history of being in NEVERMORE and JAG PANZER and MEGADETH… him we've known for more than 20 years. We were friends way before we thought about of him being in the band. It's been great to have him and him and Björn really jell together and they play a lot of guitar. I've never seen Björn play this much guitar, and I think Chris is a big part of that.

"Liam came in this last summer because [previous IN FLAMES bassist] Bryce [Paul] left us kind of abruptly," Anders explained. "We're still friends, so it's no bad blood whatsoever. But he had to focus on family and we had a festival booked in Europe, so we had to do something. And then, obviously, I know of DILLINGER [ESCAPE PLAN] from before and we met here and there, but we were not friends at all, so I didn't really know him. But our manager said, 'I think this would be a great fit for you.' He knew him way better than us and he came in and after meeting him for an hour, we were like best buddies. He's awesome and he's great and he fits in the band really well. He's a little bit older. He's not a young kid. He has a family. He has so much experience from the road, so it's a perfect fit. And he's a great guy on stage and off stage, and that's very important. And I need to say that because we play an hour, one and a half hours every other day. So that's what happens on stage. But off stage is also extremely important, how you are and how you behave and how you are socially, how you interact with each other. There's so much fun and there's no tension in the van, everybody's laughing and having a good time. Whenever someone needs to walk away a little bit and be on their own, it's totally cool. Nobody bothers you. So I am very happy to be part of this band right now. It's a good feeling after so many years, as I said before, still feel the vibe, especially after the pandemic and everything that happened. We got back together and we are able to do this. It's awesome."

"Foregone" was the second IN FLAMES album with Paul and Wayne, the first with Broderick, and the third with Grammy-winning producer Howard Benson (MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, THREE DAYS GRACE). Mike Plotnikoff (ALL THAT REMAINS, WARBRINGER) engineered at Benson's West Valley Recording Studios. Joe Rickard (10 YEARS, STARSET, DIAMANTE),who played drums for IN FLAMES from 2016 through 2019, handled mixing duties.

Wilson made his live debut with IN FLAMES on June 7, 2023 at the Release Athens festival in Athens, Greece.

SHROUD OF DESPONDENCY Release Cosmic Black Metal Single “The Source Of Multiversal Degradation”

SHROUD OF DESPONDENCY Release Cosmic Black Metal Single “The Source Of Multiversal Degradation”

Shroud Of Despondency is an enigmatic force in the cosmic black metal scene, hailing from Michigan, are announcing the release of their latest single “The Source Of Multiversal Degradation”, which comes from the upcoming split EP with black metal stalwarts LanzerRath which is being released on May 10, 2024.

Founder and multi-instrumentalist Rory Heikkila comments on the track:

“The Source Of Multiversal Degradation is a song about the origin of a collection of negative energy (doubt, hate, repression, etc.) that forms into a physical entity and then expands out into the universe/multiverse to terrorize whoever it comes into contact with. It was chosen as the single, not only because it showcases the ferocity and diversity of the riffs/vocals, but also because it previews (at the fade out) the clean singing that is also showcased across our two songs.”

Formed in the mid-late ‘90s by Heikkila, Shroud Of Despondency has remained a dynamic and unpredictable entity throughout its existence. With Heikkila on instruments and Ron Blemberg on vocals, the project has continually evolved, culminating in a collaboration with LanzerRath, forging an unholy union of cosmic black metal.

“The Source Of Multiversal Degradation” encapsulates Shroud of Despondency's signature style: unpredictable, dark, emotional, and skillfully executed. Heikkila's approach to songwriting is as diverse as the themes explored in the music, ranging from moments of despair to reflections on death, dying, and living. It is recommended for fans of Emperor, Enslaved, and Root.

Preorder the EP on Bandcamp.

Exclusive: IVY GARDENS Premieres “Stoic” Music Video

Exclusive: IVY GARDENS Premieres “Stoic” Music Video

Ivy Gardens, the grunge powerhouse from Niagara, Canada, stands as a testament to complete collaboration and total honesty. Formed on Ivy Gardens Crescent, the band's journey began with a shared passion for crafting music that resonates with sonic belligerence and intensity. They have recently released their album Goon and have a supporting tour coming up quickly.

In the meantime, they are dropping a new music video for the single “Stoic”, premiered exclusively through BraveWords, which they comment on:

“‘Stoic’ is our most lyrically packed song on the album as well as rhythmically unique. Bouncing between hard-hitting dirges, biting riffs, and quick, jumping rhythms, the song explores the perspective of someone with a lot of self-destructive behavior, who still manages to find peace through it. The titular Stoic, while seemingly devoted to his philosophy, uses it more as a tool, and even an excuse.”

Every song on Goon is a result of complete collaboration, with each member contributing to the skeleton of a song. Within, listeners will be met with the grooves of stoner metal, the crushing nature of sludge, the muscular energy of nu metal, and the attitude of good ol' fashioned doom.

Just like the album, an Ivy Garden’s gig doesn’t disappoint. They are headed out on tour shortly and will be bringing sonic belligerence, and euphoria through volume to cities across the region. Their vulgar, punky “dog ass music” is recommended for fans of Truckfighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and Nirvana.

Goon was released on April 19. Order on Bandcamp.

Tour dates:

Watch: SEPULTURA's ANDREAS KISSER Joins PAULO XISTO PINTO JR.'s CULTURA TRES For 'Territory' Performance

Watch: SEPULTURA's ANDREAS KISSER Joins PAULO XISTO PINTO JR.'s CULTURA TRES For 'Territory' Performance

Long-running South American metallers CULTURA TRES, whose current lineup includes SEPULTURA bassist Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr., were joined by SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser on stage this past Tuesday, April 30 at La Iglesia in São Paulo, Brazil for a performance of the SEPULTURA classic "Territory". Fan-filmed video of the concert, which also served as Paulo's 55th-birthday celebration, can be seen below.

CULTURA TRES's latest album, "Camino De Brujos", was released in April 2023 via Universal Music in the Americas and Bloodblast in the rest of the world.

CULTURA TRES is led by brothers Juanma Montoya and Alejandro, who previously stated about "Camino De Brujos": "Something we've learnt while listening to Andy Wallace's albums (he is God in our little world) is that if you can't imagine the band performing while you listen to a recording then you are just listening to a computer. And we are not interested in letting fans hear a computer... We'd rather invite them to hear four people playing their hearts out on a record. This record."

Added Paulo: "In 2019 after hearing about the plans for a new CULTURA TRES, I offered Ale and Juanma to join the band.

"The music is very organic. There are a lot of influences from the '90s and a little bit of hardcore as well. Personally [for this album], I got inspired by the bass players who I' loved the most back in the '70s."

In the studio, CULTURA TRES explored new ideas and found a musical common ground. The resulting style retained elements of the psychedelic-sludgy past, but incorporated the groove of a more metal oriented vibe that Paulo brought in with his SEPULTURA influence.

Alejandro said: "The album title 'Camino De Brujos' can be roughly translated as 'Trail Of Witches'. Do you remember the little story about letting your subconscious make artistic choices? Well, this is one of the best examples. 'Camino De Brujos' is the main line sang on top of a nasty slow riff. The song is filled with tribal ritual percussion, typical from South America's black magic practices. The phrase didn't only end up being the only lyrics sang on the song but it also gave the name and identity to the album."

"Camino De Brujos" was recorded by Juan M. De Ferrari Montoya and Alonso Milano Mendoza at AJM Sound Studios, Amsterdam (NL) and at Reborn Studios, Artesa de Segre (SP). Alejandro Londono Montoya took care of the missing and the mastering at AJM Sound Studios in Amsterdam. The artwork was created by Damian Michaels.

CULTURA TRES is:

Alejandro Londono Montoya - guitar, vocals
Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr. - bass
Juan M de Ferrari Montoya - guitar
Jerry Vergara Cevallos - drums

CREED Plays Seven-Song Acoustic Set For Charity: Video, Photos

CREED Plays Seven-Song Acoustic Set For Charity: Video, Photos

CREED played a seven-song acoustic set Thursday night (May 2) at guitarist Mark Tremonti's charity golf event for the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) at ChampionsGate golf club in Orlando, Florida.

The band's setlist was as follows:

01. Are You Ready?
02. My Own Prison
03. Rain
04. Arms Wide Open
05. Higher
06. One Last Breath
07. My Sacrifice

Fan-filmed video can be seen below.

Through Tremonti's Take A Chance For Charity project, the Tremonti family has joined with NDSS to expand support for individuals with Down syndrome and their families in honor of their daughter Stella. This new event will fund NDSS and its mission to empower individuals with Down syndrome and their families by driving policy change, providing resources, engaging with local communities, and shifting public perceptions.

CREED played its first two shows in 12 years last month as the headliners of the Summer Of '99 cruise.

CREED performed aboard a second cruise, the "Summer Of '99 And Beyond", traveling from Florida's Port Canaveral to Nassau from April 27 to May 1. A full-fledged tour, also dubbed "Summer Of '99" tour, produced by Live Nation, will kick off on July 17 and will run through September 28.

In a recent interview with Ryan McCredden of the I-Rock 93.5 radio station, CREED frontman Scott Stapp spoke about the fact that younger generations of fans have discovered the group's music in the 12 years since he and his bandmates played their last concert. He said: "Yeah, a hundred percent. And the analytics don't lie. We've started seeing, in late 2020, CREED beginning to go viral on TikTok, Instagram and then Facebook. And then it just seemed like every two or three months… The first couple months in 2021, we went viral again, and it just kept happening every two or three months. And then you look at the analytics, and you realize that when you look at the numbers, it's three generations. And now it's gotten down into high school kids. And so, what a gift and what a blessing. And I do not take that for granted. I understand how rare that that is. And I think I can speak for all of CREED, because we've had these conversations in private, that it's something we definitely understand is a gift, it's rare and we're not taking it for granted and we're just so grateful and appreciative that this has happened. And I think we're in the nurture phase of this whole thing and not taking a single bit of it for granted and just want to just share how grateful we are and fortunate we are that all these years later [so many people are discovering our music."

Stapp went on to discuss the overwhelmingly positive response to the announcement of CREED's first shows together in 12 years.

"I learned this from Mark the other day in a Guitar World interview that we did together," Scott said. "One thing about Mark, and I hope he doesn't get mad at me for sharing, but he's always in touch with our long-term agent from day one, Ken Fermaglich at UTA. He started with us when we were doing clubs and nobody was showing up, and he's still our agent today. And Mark checks in with him to get analytics and get numbers. And Ken shared with him that right now we are bigger in terms of sales and how things are moving than we were at our peak in 2001, 2002, which blows my mind. It still doesn't seem that way to me, but Mark made a comment. He goes, 'Oh, well, you'll see it when you step out and there's 25,000 people in front of you.' And I said, 'Don't scare me, man.' It's been a long time since I've stepped in front of an audience that big."

When McCredden suggested that "the social media world of TikTok and Instagram" played a huge part in generating interest in a CREED reunion tour, Stapp said: "I've learned in my journey in sobriety and in recovery that… I believe in God and I believe that God has a plan. And looking at this from a thousand-foot perspective, it just all just seems, to me, without a doubt that God's had a hand in it. And I'm just grateful that I'm included on the ride and I'm just not gonna take a moment for granted and [I'm gonna] try to deliver every night and give the fans what they're asking for."

Stapp, whose road to sobriety kicked off in 2014 after issues with drugs and drinking, along with thoughts of suicide, credited his recovery with providing him with the necessary tools to reach new heights with his CREED bandmates. "Absolutely," he said. "In my experience, that's the only way you really learn. And, really, you have no other option. You have to get back up, no matter what you do and deal with the consequences, of course, but learn from it and grow. And one thing I'm looking at when I reflect back on my career is it kind of happened in reverse. With CREED, it was instant. It was first single 'My Own Prison', within 11 months, we're in arenas. But then there's been this 15-year drought for me where I went all the way back as a solo artist playing in small clubs and just duking it out, sweating it out in clubs and bars for over a decade. I mean, man, since 2005 or [2006]. So, I mean, we're talking 17, 18 years. So, it's happened in reverse, and I think that's how it needed to happen, because I think it really gave me a different perspective on how I wish I could have approached this from day one back in the day. But it is what it is, and I'm just gonna enjoy it now and be grateful for it."

CREED's enormous success is largely due to the prolific writing team of Stapp and Tremonti, who founded the band together in 1993. Their winning combination of driving guitar riffs, rousing hooks and introspective lyrics earned them legions of loyal fans around the world. Following the release of their first two albums, the four-piece — which also included bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips — became the first band ever to have seven consecutive No. 1 singles on Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks. CREED's third album, "Weathered" (2001),also debuted at No. 1, and produced several popular singles, including Top Ten hits "My Sacrifice" and "One Last Breath". Though CREED announced its breakup in 2004, the band briefly reunited in 2009 to release "Full Circle". Heavier than their previous albums, "Full Circle" debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, proving the incredible staying power of the band.

CREED disbanded in 2004 but reunited five years later for the aforementioned "Full Circle" LP and an extensive tour. Stapp has since toured and recorded as a solo artist, although he suffered a drug-related mental breakdown in 2014 and spent several years recovering from that.

Watch Video Report On MEGADETH's Concert In El Salvador

Watch Video Report On MEGADETH's Concert In El Salvador

Daily newspaper La Prensa Gráfica has uploaded a TV report on MEGADETH's April 30 concert at Complejo Estadio Cuscatlán in San Salvador, El Salvador. The gig marked the final show of the Dave Mustaine-fronted act's spring 2024 Latin American tour, which launched on April 6 in Lima, Peru.

The day before the El Salvador concert, Mustaine took to his social media to write: "We have had the most righteous time down here in Latin America. The fans have been insanely loud. Every city has had a different set list, and we've practiced our fingers off on this tour! We hope that the fans got to hear their favorite songs, as well as some deeper tracks that we haven't play for some time.

"Fast forward to today. I was looking down at some papers on the hotel suite desk. and noticed something different about the rooming list. It stated that we are going home from here and I always feel melancholy when we do.

"The four of us have become such good friends, and we are all thriving together in MEGADETH. If I may elaborate...

"Dirk [Verbeuren] is an amazing drummer, and I often wonder how I got so fortunate to play with him (he is a lot like [late MEGADETH drummer] Gar [Samuelson]),he is a wonderful, humble man who I've learned a lot from.

"James [LoMenzo, bass] has been our anchor and my mentor for singing out here. He is a killer bassist, who sings so confidently that I can easily accept direction and criticism from him. He has learned every song we play live, note for note, and I love seeing him every morning out here.

"I can't say enough about Teemu [Mäntysaari, guitar], and I don't have to, because you have no doubt seen footage of us together. He is a mad scientist on guitar, he plays ALL previous guitarists parts effortlessly with finesse, and the utmost respect for his predecessor.

"The four of us play, and go over songs every day, reviewing, perfecting, and building up our repertoire to play for you. By the time we reach Europe this summer, we will have even more songs added, to provide the variety to our playlists of songs played in concert.

"Well, that's it for now. I have to get some rest for my body. Tomorrow we are going to take back the night in San Salvador! Mother Nature tried stopping us last time, with insane wind and sideways torrential rain, but the sun is out and we're back!

"Hasta mañana chicos!"

MEGADETH recently announced a North American tour "Destroy All Enemies", produced by Live Nation. Support on the 33-city trek, which includes stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Boston and St. Louis, will come from MUDVAYNE and ALL THAT REMAINS. The tour begins in Rogers, Arkansas on August 2 and runs throughout the month before wrapping in Nashville, Tennessee on September 28.

Finnish guitarist Mäntysaari joined MEGADETH last September after the band's longtime axeman Kiko Loureiro, announced earlier that month that he would sit out the next leg of MEGADETH's "Crush The World" tour in order to stay home with his children back in Finland. It was later revealed that Mäntysaari would continue to play guitar for MEGADETH for the foreseeable future, with Loureiro seemingly having no plans to return.

The 37-year-old Mäntysaari was born in Tampere, Finland and began playing guitar at the age of 12. In 2004, he joined the band WINTERSUN. He has also been a member of SMACKBOUND since 2015.

MEGADETH played its first concert with Mäntysaari on September 6, 2023 at Revel in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Loureiro officially joined MEGADETH in April 2015, about five months after Chris Broderick's exit from the group.

Since its inception in 1983, MEGADETH has ascended from its raw thrash metal roots to become an unstoppable force in the heavy metal world. With founder Dave Mustaine at the helm, MEGADETH's journey has been marked by a penchant for pushing the boundaries of speed, technicality, and complexity in their music. Their groundbreaking album "Rust In Peace", released in 1990, is frequently cited as a seminal work in the thrash metal genre. Along with the critically acclaimed "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?", it cemented MEGADETH's place in the annals of metal history.

Over four decades, the band's discography has earned numerous certifications, including platinum and multi-platinum awards, with albums like "Countdown To Extinction" and "Youthanasia" achieving widespread critical acclaim. 2016's "Dystopia" not only marked a high point with their first Grammy Award for "Best Metal Performance" after twelve nominations but also set the stage for their latest triumph, "The Sick, The Dying... And The Dead!" in 2022. MEGADETH's status as part of the "Big Four" of thrash metal underscores their trailblazing role in the genre, laying the groundwork for countless bands and musicians who have followed in their wake.

THE LURKING CORPSES Stream New Song "Satan Is Real"

THE LURKING CORPSES Stream New Song "Satan Is Real"

Reanimated horror metallers The Lurking Corspes have shared their new track "Satan Is Real". The song is the second to be revealed from the band's fifth album, Lurking After Midnight, set for international release on May 24th via Hells Headbangers on CD format; the vinyl LP will follow later.

For nearly 25 years now, The Lurking Corspes have been perfecting their patented "Horror Metal" - a singular and potent blend of dark, Misfits/Samhain-style punk rock, blistering thrash, and classic, hook-laden heavy metal - and deliver it with theatrics and panache, masked and becloaked in the best Halloween tradition. However, these Indiana ghouls' albums hit hard no matter the season, and they've risen from the grave after a whole decade with Lurking After Midnight.

Featuring a mostly new lineup, led as ever by demon-crooning frontman Lord Vladimir Von Ghoul and bassist The Nameless Horror returning, The Lurking Corspes sound absolutely reinvigorated on Lurking After Midnight, their first album since the Hells Headbangers-released Workin' For the Devil. Sure to fulfill every horror geek's wet dream, the quintet unload a wide variety of styles across the album's 15 songs, ranging from doo-wop to surf to punk to death metal, but always with addicting energy and straightforward heaviness to spare. Of course, it wouldn't be The Lurking Corspes without their tongue-in-cheek mix of sex, violence, and good, old-fashioned horror-flick gore, and you get a maximum overdrive of all across the 49 minutes of Lurking After Midnight.

Sure to leave you singing along and banging your head like there's no tomorrow, The Lurking Corspes put the "fun" back in funeral with Lurking After Midnight!

Newly Restored Vintage Horror Punk Band MOURNING NOISE Featuring STEVE ZING Of DANZIG / SAMHAIN Unleashes Scorching New Single & Video

Newly Restored Vintage Horror Punk Band MOURNING NOISE Featuring STEVE ZING Of DANZIG / SAMHAIN Unleashes Scorching New Single & Video

Brace yourselves for a full-throttle sonic onslaught from the newly reunited and souped-up horror punk hot rods, Mourning Noise! Founded and powered by legendary drummer Steve Zing, of Samhain and Danzig fame, Mourning Noise carried the torch of Misfits-styled gothic horrorcore in the early ‘80s before taking a somewhat less than brief hiatus in 1984. But now, 40 years later, the band is pulling itself out of the garage and revving its engine once again as original bassist Chris Morance and original lead guitarist Tommy Koprowski are joined by new guitarist/lead vocalist Robby Bloodshed for a brand new studio album set for release on June 7.

The band previewed its newly renovated model on 2022’s EP At The Seville, which showcased a much more muscular, high performance, super-charged sound that expanded on their early dark rock beginnings. For their first new full-length album in 40 years, entitled Screams / Dreams, Zing and the boys have put together an all-original album with go-for-the-throat guitar riffs, head smashing percussion frenzies, and dramatically dark lyrics that will have you screaming for more! Today the band releases the album’s high energy title track along with a stellar performance video filmed at the Prudential Center in Newark NJ to give listeners a small taste of what’s in store.

Stream / download the single here. Screams / Dreams the album will be released on all formats including CD, vinyl and cassette on June 7. Pre-order / pre-save the digital version at this location.

You can also catch Mourning Noise live on June 8 as they take the stage at the No Values Punk Festival in Pomona, California alongside iconic acts such as The Misfits, Iggy Pop, and Social Distortion.

HOLY MOTHER Share Live Video For New Song "Jeremiah"

HOLY MOTHER Share Live Video For New Song "Jeremiah"

Holy Mother have released a live video for "Jeremiah", featured on the band's new album, Rise, out on June 7 via Massacre Records.

Frontman Mike Tirelli comments: "Do you know when you hear a song name like 'Jeremiah'? You automatically think Jeremiah was a bullfrog. But I wrote a song about Jeremiah, a bad man! This song is really about a corrupt billionaire businessman, and the people that get fooled by his persuasiveness. The heavy groove and the riff of this song is what I like the best. And not to mention the heavily inspired Dio-ish vocal vibe that really puts this song over the top."

FUMING MOUTH Debuts New Single "Daylight Again" Ahead Of Upcoming Tour; Lyric Video

FUMING MOUTH Debuts New Single "Daylight Again" Ahead Of Upcoming Tour; Lyric Video

New England death metal band, Fuming Mouth, has released a new single, "Daylight Again", in anticipation for their upcoming US tour with August Burns Red and festival performances at Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple.

The furious new death-sludge track was produced with Kurt Ballou (Full Of Hell, Code Orange, Nails) at GodCity Studios during the band’s Last Day of Sun recording session and is part of the critically acclaimed record’s concept of perseverance, survival and resurrection inspired by vocalist/guitarist Mark Whelan’s battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The single features artwork by sci-fi/fantasy legend Bruce Pennington and is accompanied by the b-side track "Timeless", an alternate version of "Out of Time" from Last Day Of Sun.

Commenting on the new track, Whelan says: “‘Daylight Again’ expresses that the future is bright. It got so dark for the band behind the scenes. We had so many friends die, so many issues. It felt like it would never end.

The song was supposed to be the final track on our album Last Day of Sun but it didn’t fit on the vinyl so we threw it in the vault. It feels appropriate that a song called 'Daylight Again' finally gets to see the light of day.”

Fuming Mouth is currently touring in support of Last Day Of Sun, and will hit the road for headlining dates, festival appearances and shows with August Burns Red in May. Tickets are available now, here.

BLOODBATH - Grand Morbid Funeral 10th Anniversary Edition On Limited Marble Vinyl In June; Video Trailer

BLOODBATH - Grand Morbid Funeral 10th Anniversary Edition On Limited Marble Vinyl In June; Video Trailer

Bloodbath’s Grand Morbid Funeral special 10th anniversary edition LP will be released on limited marble vinyl on June 14 via Peaceville Records.

Bloodbath is a titan of death metal from Stockholm, Sweden, notable for the inclusion of Katatonia, Opeth and Paradise Lost members. Formed in 1998 with a mutual fascination for horror & the glory days of death metal (especially the old Florida & Stockholm ‘Sunlight’ scenes), the band has remained a leading light of extreme metal since their Breeding Death EP was unleashed back in 2000, and a formidable force in the metal world for over twenty-five years.

Recorded at Ghost Ward Studios and the City of Glass Studios in Stockholm, and mixed by David Castillo, Grand Morbid Funeral, Bloodbath’s fourth full-length studio release, was undoubtedly the band’s darkest and dirtiest opus upon its release in 2014; an organic collection of filth-ridden tracks straight from the grave, boldly eschewing the approach of somewhat over-produced modern death metal in favour of something altogether more rotten to the bone.

With doom-like melodies mixed with raw and savage riffing, and featuring a number of guest appearances including Chris Reifert and Eric Cutler from US gore-masters Autopsy, Grand Morbid Funeral marked a new high-point of brutality for Bloodbath.

Blakkheim (guitars): "We're proud of all these different styled releases and we loved doing each and every one of them, but the objective was never to settle with a certain style, so the time has come to shift once more. It was already decided right after the last album that the next record would not be a "Fathomless part 2", but it would actually become its antithesis! So prepare yourselves for an ultimate blueprint of low-fi, raw, heavy, organic and sludgy death metal sound! The time has come to stomp those HM-2 pedals once more and close the circle of the death metal archives with our Grand Morbid Funeral."

This limited edition of Grand Morbid Funeral marks the album's tenth anniversary and is presented on limited silver/black marble-effect vinyl, with printed inner sleeve.

MÖTLEY CRÜE's NIKKI SIXX Praises Early AEROSMITH: 'Those First Five Albums, I Don't Think Anybody Can Touch 'Em'

MÖTLEY CRÜE's NIKKI SIXX Praises Early AEROSMITH: 'Those First Five Albums, I Don't Think Anybody Can Touch 'Em'

In a new interview with the KSHE 95 radio station, MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx was asked if there was something — a TV show, a specific album or going to a concert — that made him decide to pursue playing music as a career. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "It was hands down AEROSMITH. There's no other band that even comes close to what touched my heart as a 14-year-old. And those first five albums, I don't think anybody can touch 'em, in my opinion. They're like [LED] ZEPPELIN, [BLACK] SABBATH — those first five AEROSMITH albums. I mean, I know every lyric — I know that so inside out that I almost like fall under 'superfan' [when it comes to] that stuff. And they're great guys. We've got to tour with them before. But, man, put on AEROSMITH'Rocks', and then put on anybody else's record. And they're, like, 'Sorry. We shouldn't have put that record on.'"

Three years ago, Sixx told SPIN that the first five AEROSMITH LPs were "huge albums" for him. "But when I got the first AEROSMITH album — I heard this raw, dirty, garage band — it was like the amps were spitting and sputtering, and the drums were in the pocket, and Steven Tyler's approach on 'One Way Street' to 'Make It', to me, that was like the moment that set up the rest of their career," he said. "And for me, I always go back to that record as one of the most important records, and obviously 'Dream On' is on that record, which is a standout on its own for a first album."

Last year, Sixx named "Rocks" the greatest album of all time. He explained to Classic Rock magazine: "That album captured everything for me. It was raw, and dirty, and yet there was something going on that, especially when I was a kid, I couldn't really understand, because there were so many rhythms and overdubs. It's such a well-crafted album, song-wise, and with the energy of the band… it's an amazing album. Maybe it didn't become a commercial monster like 'Permanent Vacation', but when I was a teenager, 'Toys In The Attic' and 'Rocks' were monsters."

Last month, MÖTLEY CRÜE released a new single, "Dogs Of War". The track was made available via the band's new deal with Nashville's Big Machine Records.

MÖTLEY CRÜE's new deal with Big Machine Records sees the band working together again after making the 2014 project "Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute To Mötley Crüe", which featured CRÜE tracks covered by country stars RASCAL FLATTS, FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE, Darius Rucker and more. Big Machine also partnered with John 5 for the release of his 2021 album "Sinner".

MÖTLEY CRÜE's last studio album was 2008's "Saints Of Los Angeles", which was followed by a 2009 "Greatest Hits" compilation.

In 2018, MÖTLEY CRÜE recorded four new songs for "The Dirt" movie, including the single "The Dirt (Est. 1981) (Feat. Machine Gun Kelly)", "Ride With The Devil", "Crash And Burn" and the band's own spin on Madonna's "Like A Virgin".

John 5 joined MÖTLEY CRÜE in the fall of 2022 as the replacement for the band's co-founding guitarist Mick Mars. Mick announced his retirement from touring with MÖTLEY CRÜE in October 2022 as a result of worsening health issues.

TIM 'RIPPER' OWENS Wants To Show His Era Of JUDAS PRIEST 'Respect' With KK'S PRIEST And His Solo Shows

TIM 'RIPPER' OWENS Wants To Show His Era Of JUDAS PRIEST 'Respect' With KK'S PRIEST And His Solo Shows

In a new interview with Rockin' Metal Revival, former JUDAS PRIEST and current KK'S PRIEST singer Tim "Ripper" Owens was asked if he still gets feedback from fans about why the two studio albums he recorded with JUDAS PRIEST — 1997's "Jugulator" and 2001's "Demolition" — don't get the respect that they deserve. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Yeah, it's nonstop. K.K. [Downing, former JUDAS PRIEST and current KK'S PRIEST guitarist] and I talk about it. It's weird that [those albums] were erased. I get it, you move on, but it wasJUDAS PRIEST and for JUDAS PRIEST to erase JUDAS PRIEST… Listen, they're the ones… I'm not gonna make any money from it; they're gonna make money from it. Could you imagine how many LPs they could sell if they released that? They've just erased it. The good part is I have it, so when people come and watch me play solo, I play 'Hell Is Home', 'Burn In Hell' — I mean, I play all kinds of stuff from that in my solo shows. And then KK'S PRIEST will be playing it as well. It is a shame, but the best part now is I'm on stage [putting on] top-notch shows and putting out top-notch records, be it my RIPPER solo EP or the KK'S PRIEST ones that are selling and getting reviewed great. So, we will show it some respect in our own way."

Owens joined PRIEST in 1996 after being discovered when the band's drummer was given a videotape of him performing with the PRIEST cover band BRITISH STEEL. JUDAS PRIEST at the time was seeking a replacement for Rob Halford, who has since rejoined the band.

Two months ago, Downing was asked by Rob Rush of Long Island's 94.3 The Shark radio station, why "Jugulator" and "Demolition" are not available on the major streaming services. Downing replied: "Yeah, [it's] a little bit of a mystery, really. Obviously, I no longer have any control over those records, but I don't think that it's a label thing 'cause labels always like to sell records, don't they? And, obviously, myself and Ripper, we're still very proud of everything that we've done as a part of our history and legacy, and we'd very much like to see the records out there in the stores once more. So, hopefully, we'll see that come to fruition. But the good news is that this band KK'S PRIEST will be out there playing those songs throughout this year, so everyone is welcome to come down and experience those magical times that we now refer to as the 'Ripper era' or the 'Ripper years.' And, yeah, so everyone can enjoy those songs again in a live format, which, in a lot of ways, is even better. But let's hope the records will appear at some point."

Back in 2019, JUDAS PRIEST bassist Ian Hill was asked in an interview with "Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon" if the unavailability of the Owens-era PRIEST albums was a rights-related issue or if it was a deliberate attempt to bury that part of PRIEST's past. Hill responded: "It's an odd one, really, because there's some good material on both of those albums. And Ripper is a terrific vocalist, and he did a tremendous job on 'Jugulator' and 'Demolition'. And why they're not for sale has got nothing to do with us — put it like that. Whether it's a contractual thing between Sony and whoever owns the copyrights to those albums, I don't know. But it is a shame, because there's some good material there. And as a band, it's still JUDAS PRIEST. I know it wasn't the trademark lineup, but it was still JUDAS PRIEST nonetheless. So, it's disappointing — if that's true that the material is not available. It really is."

A few years ago, Tim told "Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon" that he was a little miffed by the fact that fans cannot find the music that he made with PRIEST on any of the music-streaming services or other online retailers. "My issue is I would like to buy the records," he said. "I'd like to buy some to even sell when I'm touring solo, but you can't when they're kind of gone. And that's only the thing I talk about… If they were out there, I could maybe buy 'em at cost and sell 'em at my concerts. That would be kind of cool. Then I'd have my whole catalog."

KK'S PRIEST features former JUDAS PRIEST members Downing and Owens, alongside guitarist A.J. Mills (HOSTILE),bassist Tony Newton (VOODOO SIX) and drummer Sean Elg (DEATHRIDERS, CAGE).

KK'S PRIEST recently embarked on its first-ever U.S. headlining tour. The trek kicked off on March 7 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with support from L.A. GUNS and BURNING WITCHES. The tour was the first of at least a two-leg USA run of shows, planned to continue later in 2024.

KK'S PRIEST made its live debut on July 6, 2023 at Downing's KK's Steel Mill in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom.

KK'S PRIEST's sophomore album, "The Sinner Rides Again", came out in September 2023 via the Austrian label Napalm Records.

The art for "The Sinner Rides Again" was created by talented artist Andy Pilkington.

K.K. formed KK'S PRIEST after JUDAS PRIEST turned down his offer to rejoin the band for their 50th-anniversary tour. It followed a couple of celebrated stage appearances, first with former MANOWAR guitarist Ross The Boss in the summer of 2019, then with a one-off lineup that included former MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson and former PRIEST drummer Les Binks later that year.

KK'S PRIEST released its debut album, "Sermons Of The Sinner", in October 2021 via Explorer1 Music Group/EX1 Records.

Downing spent four months writing and recording "Sermons Of The Sinner" and, along with new ideas, he even resurrected a few archived riffs from the 1980s.

I PREVAIL's BRIAN BURKHEISER Opens Up About Battle With 'Rare Disease' Eagle Syndrome

I PREVAIL's BRIAN BURKHEISER Opens Up About Battle With 'Rare Disease' Eagle Syndrome

I PREVAIL vocalist Brian Burkheiser has opened up about the "longstanding medical issue" which has forced him to sit out an upcoming run of the band's tour dates.

Burkheiser will miss I PREVAIL's shows in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (May 3) and St. Paul, Minnesota (May 4),as well as the group's European tour, which is scheduled to kick off on May 10. Guitarist and backing singer Dylan Bowman will join co-vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe in handling Burkheiser's parts.

In an Instagram post, the 31-year-old Burkheiser shared several post-surgery photos of him in the hospital, and he included the following message: "I recently underwent multiple surgeries for a rare disease called Eagle Syndrome. It pains me to do this, but unfortunately I will have to miss the next month of shows as the recovery process continues. Initially, I thought I could push through the pain, but my body and mind just need more time to heal.

"If I'm being honest, this disease has broken me over the last few years. I knew something was wrong dating all the way back to 2018, and it wasn't until recently that I officially figured out the problem. I've pushed myself through multiple tour cycles trying my best to keep a positive spirit, but as the days passed by, the negativity and pain grew. I could write a book with the list of symptoms that come with this disease.

"Sadly, Eagle Syndrome isn't known by many, and it's a very silent killer. Most I've talked to with it are suicidal, feel like a burden to those around them, and have trouble doing the simplest tasks. I have felt many of those feelings, but now I'm on a mission to help spread awareness and be a voice for those who suffer. Thanks to @drryanosborne and his team for empowering me and showing me that I can get back the life I've always wanted. He is truly one of the best men I've ever met.

"For those going to upcoming shows, I promise you that the other dudes are going to crush this tour. Please go sing your hearts out and support them. I'm incredibly proud of Dylan and Eric stepping up and taking over for me while I'm gone. You guys are in for a special show.

"Love you all and I'll see you this summer."

According to Medical News Today, Eagle syndrome is a form of nerve pain that causes people to experience a dull, throbbing ache around the face and throat.

Burkheiser is expected to rejoin his I PREVAIL bandmates in time for their July 2024 U.S. tour with HALESTORM.

I PREVAIL's latest album, "True Power", was released in 2022 via Fearless Records. It was followed by a sold-out, two-leg tour across the U.S. and Canada.

JON BON JOVI Explains Why He Is 'Not Interested' In Selling His Music Catalog

JON BON JOVI Explains Why He Is 'Not Interested' In Selling His Music Catalog

Jon Bon Jovi appeared on SiriusXM's "The Howard Stern Show" on Tuesday (April 30) to discuss BON JOVI's documentary series "Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story", which is available on Hulu. Asked if he was shocked to hear, more than four years ago, that his longtime bandmate Richie Sambora had sold his music catalog to Hipgnosis Songs. He said: "People sell their catalogs often, but it wasn't anything I'd ever considered." Jon then explained how Richie selling didn't change much on his end. "If it's a collaborative effort on any song, then his share of [the licensing fees] would go to whomever bought it," he said. "Mine is mine and, [for] anyone I've ever collaborated [with], theirs is theirs."

Asked how much his own catalog might sell for, Jon said, "A lot," but clarified that "it's all speculative," explaining several variables would be at play, including an artist's popularity and how motivated they might be to sell their catalog.

"I have no desire to sell it," he added.

Asked if worries about what happens to his songs after he dies and whether he has a plan in mind for what happens to his music catalog, Jon responded: "The songs will outlive all of us at this point. And that's the beautiful thing about rock and roll in general. You or I hear a song on the radio and we remember where we heard it for the first time and what that song meant to us by that artist. And so we've been blessed enough to have had a number of those kinds of songs that people say, 'Those are my memories and I like 'em.' So those songs are going to live long after I'm gone. And I'm happy about that."

Asked if someone has already approached him and said, "Listen, I'd like to buy your catalog," Jon replied: "Sure, sure." But, he added, "I'm not interested."

Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks and Neil Young are some of the iconic musicians who have recently sold off substantial rights to their music, whether it's just for publishing or the original recordings, known as masters. Investors, major music companies and private equity firms have poured billions of dollars into buying song catalogs, believing that the rise of streaming and growing music revenues will make song rights acquisitions highly lucrative in the long term as they can be exploited for up to 70 years after a musician's death.

When musicians sell their songwriting catalogs, they take a lump sum now, rather than counting on royalties from their music on whatever platform might be most popular in a few decades.

Three years ago, Dylan sold the rights to all of his recorded music since 1962 to Sony Music Entertainment for a reported $200 million. Dylan had previously sold the songwriting portion of his catalog — which include music and lyrics — to Universal Music Publishing Group for a reported $300 million. In 2021, Nicks sold her portion of publishing rights to her songs to Primary Wave for a reported $100 million. That same year, Springsteen reportedly sold his catalog to Sony for more than $500 million.

"A lot of the artists that are selling their catalogs are getting to a point in their lives where they are planning their estates, sort of planning for the future and they are at a point in their lives where it makes sense to sell their music to provide for their families," Hannah Karp, editorial director at Billboard, told CNN in January 2022.

A month ago, it was announced that KISS had sold its catalog, brand name and IP to Swedish company Pophouse Entertainment Group in a deal estimated to be over $300 million.
