SHEAR, the new Helsinki, Finland-based six-piece metal act featuring former/current members of AMORAL, OMNIUM GATHERUM, IMPERANON, ELENIUM and CRYSTAL BLAZE, has entered Sonic Pump studios to begin recording its debut album for a late 2011 release.

The first in a series of video clips featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the studio can be viewed below.

Commented the band: "In the last couple of months we've been writing a lot of new songs, and we're really pleased with the outcome. The songs are really diverse, ranging from very melodic songs to heavier riff-oriented songs."

"Macabre Eternal", the first full-length album from the legendary San Francisco Bay Area gore grind act AUTOPSY since 1995's "Shitfun", will be released on May 31 via Peaceville Records. A special vinyl edition of the effort will precede the digital versions exclusively through the Peaceville web store on May 16.

"Macabre Eternal" was recorded at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California and includes AUTOPSY's first 10-plus minute song "Sadistic Gratification". "It's 11 minutes and 33 seconds of pure fucking sickness," guitarist Eric Cutler told Invisible Oranges.

"Our fans can expect no less than our best, the best we have to offer," Cutler added. "If you like AUTOPSY, you will think this is the best."

AUTOPSY drummer/vocalist Chris Reifert previously said about "Macabre Eternal": "We've brewed up the sickest and heaviest material that our rotten souls could possibly spew forth, and we are confident that it's our best stuff yet. The EP was a taste of what's to come, but now it's time for the full assault from beyond the grave."

He continued, "The album will contain no repeated EP tracks, no re-recorded old songs, no triggered trickery, and nothing less than the pure death metal brutality that AUTOPSY has always delivered."

AUTOPSY had previously decided to make an official comeback after working together on two songs for the special 20th-anniversary edition of debut album, "Severed Survival", in late 2008; the band having originally split before the release of its fourth album, "Shitfun", in 1995. A five-song EP, "The Tomb Within", came out last September and saw the original trio of Chris Reifert, Danny Coralles and Eric Cutler joined on bass by Joe Trevisano (ex-ABSCESS).

AMON AMARTH has recorded a cover version of the SYSTEM OF A DOWN song "Aerials". The Swedish death metal band's rendition of the tune is featured as a downloadable track with copies of AMON AMARTH's eighth studio album, "Surtur Rising", that are ordered through FYE stores in the United States, and it can also be purchased separately via Amazon.com (where you can hear a 30-second audio sample). MASTIPHAL, one of the most important Polish black metal bands of the '90s, will release its new album, "Parvzya", on May 15 via Witching Hour Productions. The CD was mixed and mastered with producer Sverker "Widda" Widgren at his Necromorbus Studio (WATAIN, UNANIMATED, DESTRÖYER 666) in Alvik, Sweden. 10 songs were recorded for the album, with only nine appearing on the CD version. "Blessed With A Curse", the new video from British metal juggernauts BRING ME THE HORIZON, can be viewed below. The song comes off the band's third album, "There Is A Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It. There Is A Heaven, Let's Keep It A Secret", which sold 20,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 17 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD entered the official chart in the band's home country at position No. 13.

"Sinéad", the second of three short films giving further insight into the concept of WITHIN TEMPTATION's fifth studio album, "The Unforgiving", can be viewed below. Due on March 29, the CD was produced by Daniel Gibson and is based on a comic book story written by script writer Steven O'Connell (BloodRayne, Dark 48). The band asked comic artist Romano Molenaar (Witchblade, Darkness, X-Men) to draw the characters and scenery of "The Unforgiving", which is set for release via Sony Music in Continental Europe and Roadrunner Records in the U.S., U.K. and Ireland, Japan and Australia. The films are based on the comic storyline; the characters are impersonated by actors. Each film is followed by a band performance that, all together, form a dark and compelling tale of life, love, revenge, rage, and regret. All three short films and the music videos are featured on the special edition of "The Unforgiving", which also contains the music videos of "Where Is The Edge" and "Utopia" and the names of everyone who joined the band's Facebook campaign in December 2010.

Swedish industrial metal outfit PAIN, the solo project of musician and producer Peter Tägtgren, will release its seventh album, "You Only Live Twice", on June 3 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Greg Prato of UGO recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

UGO: What can fans expect from the next MEGADETH album?

David Ellefson: We are working on it now so it's a bit early to encapsulate what the final will ultimately sound like. I think we know the punch and impact we want it to have but also not be afraid to let new ideas develop, too. Just know it will be heavy, hooky, and have the trademarks you'd come to expect from us.

UGO: Any idea when it will be released?

David Ellefson: I know the business side want to lock in schedules for release but sometimes you can't contain a creative process AND a schedule. It just needs to flow. For us, the scheduling is second to making a great record. It will be done when it's done.

UGO: Dave [Mustaine] once told me in an interview that he wrote the bass line to "Peace Sells". Do you agree or disagree?

David Ellefson: He created the riffs and the lyric. It was one of those songs that just fell into place from top to bottom within a couple hours once we were all in the band room together jamming on it. It was the first time that ever happened in MEGADETH up to that point, actually. In fact, most of our "singles" have been like that over the years. I think it says something about the magic of spontaneity when writing. Plus, there is chemistry within every line-up that can never be duplicated either. I think that's why our fans gravitate toward various albums because there is an identifiable spark with those musicians that created those exact songs together at that specific moment in time.

TAROT — the Finnish group led by NIGHTWISH/ex-SINERGY bassist Marco Hietala — will release a re-recorded version of its classic 1986 debut album, "The Spell Of Iron", under the title "The Spell Of Iron MMXI" on May 6 via Nuclear Blast Records. The band also filmed a video for the new version of its song "Wings Of Darkness", which was originally made available as TAROT's first single in 1986. Check out the clip below.

DEEP PURPLE guitarist Steve Morse has posted the following message regarding the 8.9-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami that shook Japan on March 11 morning and left more than five thousand killed and many more missing:

"This disaster is sobering and heartbreaking.

"Having been in Japan and admired their earthquake preparedness, who could have imagined so much tragedy from a tsunami in Japan?

"Those folks who are helping others in the face of unknown risks are true heroes.

"Let's hope and pray that the suffering is mitigated as much as humanly possible."

"White Trash Millionaire", the new single from Kentucky rockers BLACK STONE CHERRY, can be streamed below. The song comes off the band's third album, "Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea", which will be released on May 31 via Roadrunner Records. The single will be available digitally on March 29.

BLACK STONE CHERRY, comprised of vocalist Chris Robertson, guitarist Ben Wells, bassist Jon Lawhon and drummer John Fred Young, is a band adept at creating both timeless rock 'n' roll and new, innovative sounds. While the band's last record, "Folklore And Superstition", was a compelling tribute to brotherhood and history, the new album is the summation of a year in the life of the band — every emotion, triumph, loss, romance and everything in between — it's all here on "Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea".

This is the first time BLACK STONE CHERRY has not recorded in the South, this time taking up residence in Los Angeles to work with famed producer Howard Benson (THEORY OF A DEADMAN, DAUGHTRY, THREE DAYS GRACE). The new surroundings allowed them to strengthen their relationships as both band members and friends, ultimately a detail that sets "Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea" above previous recordings. The raw intensity that pervades the music on this album harkens back to the early days of BLACK STONE CHERRY, when they were a bunch of blue-collar guys just making music together for the hell of it. The band admits, "When we first began writing music, we hadn't traveled very far out of our home state of Kentucky. Now, ten years later, we've traveled the world and experienced things we never imagined we would."

First single, "White Trash Millionaire", set to hit airwaves in April, pairs Robertson's soulful delivery with the urgent and infectious rhythms of his fellow players. Sure, this is Southern rock at heart; but the concept is universal: just take what the world gives you and make that work. Century Media Records, the Finnish Metal Expo, Inferno magazine, Terrorizer magazine and Imperiumi.net joined forces last year to find the "Suomi Metal Star 2011." Around 240 Finnish bands signed up to take part in the contest and 12 were selected to be voted on by the public prior to this past New Year's Eve. The four finalist bands played at the Finnish Metal Expo in Helsinki on Saturday, February 19 and it was ODDLAND from Turku who won over the majority of the jury members with its brand of sophisticated prog metal/rock — described as a cross between DEVIN TOWNSEND, OPETH and KATATONIA.

ODDLAND was formed in 2003 when four 18-year-old "wimps" decided to play heavy music to as a mental anti-acne medication. The mental acne never disappeared, but neither did the passion to play overdriven music with captivating melodies and intense energy. So far they made two recordings: the EP "Connecions Critical Behind" (2007) and the demo/promo "Away From The Watching Eye" (2009).

Commented ODDLAND: "We are absolutely thrilled to be signed by Century Media Records and to be recording our debut album with them. We're very proud to become part of the Century Media family. There are many amazingly talented bands with the label and we're very honored to become one of them. We've been playing together for a long time and it seems that all the hours spent at the rehearsal room were not in vain. We're going to work very hard to make the best debut album we can possibly make. We don't want to rush things, however, because we want to put out music that will make us stick around. ECHOTERRA — the new female-fronted symphonic rock/metal band featuring vocalist Melissa Ferlaak (VISIONS OF ATLANTIS), keyboardist Jonah Weingarten (PYRAMAZE), guitarist Yan Leviathan (AVIAN), bassist Brian Hollenbeck and drummer Adam Sagan (INTO ETERNITY) — has finished recording its new album, "Land Of The Midnight Sun". The group states, "We are now in the mixing and mastering stage and are anticipating a late May completion of the album and a mid-summer release date. Former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach recently entered a Los Angeles studio with his new, young, virtuosic guitarist Nick Sterling and producer Bob Marlette (BLACK SABBATH, SHINEDOWN, ATREYU, FILTER) to record Bach's next CD, tentatively due this summer via the Italian label Frontiers Records.

In a March 21 posting on his Facebook page, Bach writes, "Best day ever! I just nailed two songs out of the park on my first day singing. I can't tell you how great it feels and how great Bob Marlette is making everything sound. After watching Nick Sterling and Bobby Jarzombek [drums] rock out, I have been chomping at the bit to wail and today I did! Two down, 11 to go! Screams are at FULL FORCE!!!"

Massacre Records has announced the signing of Austria's GARAGEDAYS. The band's new album, "Dark And Cold", will be released on June 24. The CD was mixed and mastered at Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden by Andy La Rocque (KING DIAMOND).

Welsh "ragga metal" act SKINDRED will release its fourth album, "Union Black", on April 25 via BMG/7pm Records. The CD was recorded at Britannia Row Studios in London with producer James Loughrey.

The band's new single, "Warning", is a no-holds-barred ragga rock monster of a tune which received its first exclusive play earlier in the month on BBC Radio 1's "Rock Show".

"I don't think I've been this happy with songs for years," bassist Dan Pugsley told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine. I know everyone always says that, but I'm just so happy to be doing the album in the U.K. We've never actually recorded in the U.K. [before]. Working with a British producer, who knows the more British reference points we have, is great. American producers are all about American radio and how you fit into that; if you put something 'different' out, radio just won't play it. We've had more freedom to 'create' on this album. It's not like we're going to be doing self-indulgent, wacky things, just stuff that people thought wouldn't work on American radio that we're not trying out — and it's working! The drum 'n' bass thing, the dancehall thing… we're embracing all the things that make us different."

Regarding the new album title, vocalist Benji Webbe said, "'Union Black' is a celebration of the diversity of the U.K. We're all from different backgrounds, but there are so many of us here on this little island — from the Commonwealth and beyond — we're all kindred spirits of old Blighty. And it's 'black' because when you mix every color together, you get black!"

U.S. melodic metal act ARTIZAN has set April 29 as the release date for its full-length debut, "Curse Of The Artizan", via the German label Pure Steel Records. Three new songs from German melodic folk/death metallers SUIDAKRA — "Dowth 2059", "Biróg's Oath" and "Balor" — are available for streaming on the band's Facebook page. Due to "family matters," drummer Pawel "Paul" Jaroszewicz has decided to leave Polish extreme metal veterans VADER. Despite this, he has committed to laying down tracks for the band's new album, "Welcome To The Morbid Reich", and taking part in the group's already confirmed concerts in May, June and July. Jaroszewicz's replacement in VADER is the "very talented" 21-year-old English musician James Stewart, who has previously played with DIVINE CHAOS.

Commented Mariusz Kmiolek of Massive Music Management: "The choice was obvious. We know James from one of the VADER tours, his band supported us on several gigs. We gave him an assignment to do; he prepared some tracks, presented them on the video and became the new member of our crew! He's a very young, talented and disciplined musician. He belongs to the new wave artists — ambitious, exquisite in their technique, keeping track of the technical novelties. At the same time he's a nice guy, drinking his tea with milk (brrrr!) and craving for success. I believe in this guy!"

In other news, VADER guitarist/vocalist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek has released a statement disputing bassist Tomasz "Reyash" Rejek's February 2010 announcement that he had decided to "quit" VADER "due to personal reasons."

Stated Wiwczarek: "I decided to thank Reyash for over two-year's cooperation in January 2011 and it was solely my decision. The decision was made on his recent behavior only and definitely not due to his 'personal reasons.' Reyash is a great mate BUT this isn't enough to be a part of VADER.

"What's funny is that my expectations are really not that high as it might seem from the personal changes in the band throughout the recent years. VADER is appreciated by YOU just because of us keeping the style, sincerity and quality REGARDLESS the so-called public opinion. Reyash knew that he was to play 'till the end of the season (promotion of [VADER's last album, 'Necropolis') and his staying in the band depended exclusively on his work during the past two years. I can't understand his trying to give a good account of himself in this situation, the more so because it is insincere.

"Nevertheless, me and all people contributing to the presence of VADER Commando wish Reyash success, all the best and satisfaction from his work! One should keep good memories only. We're also glad that after Reyash's official statement appeared, we were contacted by lots of bass players willing to join the band, most of them from abroad. However, the decision about who will replace Tomek was made a few weeks ago. We invited Hal (HERMH, DEAD INFECTION, ABUSED MAJESTY). This lineup will be seen on stage from April."

Grindcore progenitors NAPALM DEATH have contributed a brand to track called "Legacy Was Yesterday" to Decibel magazine's monthly flexi disc series. The song — the band's first new material since 2009's "Time Waits for No Slave" LP — was recorded at Rapture Audio with James Walford and mastered by Russ Russell. NAPALM DEATH is currently writing material for its 14th studio album, due later this year through a yet-to-be-determined label.

In a late 2010 interview with Dose Of Metal, NAPALM DEATH frontman Mark "Barney" Greenway stated about the band's plans for the follow-up to 2009's "Time Waits For No Slave", "We will be starting more or less from scratch in January 2011 making a new album and will record in May. Don't read that wrong — it doesn't take us that much time to get our stuff together, it's just that Russ Russell, our producer, has his hands full until May. It does seem a while since 'Time Waits…', but we recorded the previous few albums in quick succession so thought we'd hold back for a change. Time can indeed fucking wait."

"Time Waits For No Slave" entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 95. The CD, which was released in the U.S. in February 2009 via Century Media Records, was recorded with producer Russ Russell. Drums were tracked at Parlour Studios in Kettering and guitars, bass and vocals were done at Foel Studios in Wales. The band then returned to Parlour for the mixing sessions.

VREID and DORDEDUH (the Romanian metal band featuring former NEGURA BUNGET members Hupogrammos and Sol Faur) are among the artists who will contribute to the forthcoming "official tribute" to Norwegian masters of progressive/experimental metal ENSLAVED. Twenty acts are scheduled to appear on the CD, entitled "Önd - A Tribute", which will coincide with 20-year anniversary of Norway's finest.

"24/7", the new video from the Swedish female-fronted heavy rock band SISTER SIN, can be viewed below. The clip was directed by Richard Frantzen, who previously worked with the band on the "Sound Of The Underground" video. The track comes off SISTER SIN's second album, "True Sound Of The Underground", which sold around 500 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 97 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Finnish death/doom band RAINROOM has inked a deal with Firedoom Music, a subsidiary of Firebox Records. The band's full-length debut, "And The Other That Was A Machine...", was released in Finland on March 9 and will be made available in the rest of the world on March 25.
