DARK MOOR: In Writing ModeMadrid, Spain-based power metallers DARK MOOR have issued the following update:
"DARK MOOR are working on new songs for the next album which is planned to be recorded this summer in the New Sin Studios in Italy. The release date for the next album will be between the end of 2008-2009. Stay tuned for more news!"
DARK MOOR's latest album, "Tarot", was released in the U.S. in May 2007 via Caroline distribution. The CD, which was issued in Europe in February via Italy's Scarlet Records, is said to be "an intriguing" conceptual effort about the major arcanes of the tarot, covering in depth the meaning of each arcane and the esoteric halo that surrounds it. Production duties were once again handled by renowed producer Luigi Stefanini (RHAPSODY, LABIRYNTH, VISION DIVINE). The impressive artwork was created by Derek Gores (EDGUY, KAMELOT).
DARK MOOR's video for the song "The Chariot" can be viewed here.

THE BERZERKER Launching Record LabelVocalist Luke Kenny of the Australian grind deviants THE BERZERKER has issued the following update:
"I'm very excited to tell you that we will be launching our brand new record label Berzerker Industries within the next few months. The first release will be our new studio album. (I can't fucking wait!) The only way you'll be able to get hold of this album is by direct mail order via MySpace and our website. This will not be in stores. Also we will be holding a remix competition with the winner getting their remixed BERZERKER version on our new CD. There will also be remixes from some of the biggest names in the gabba/speedcore scene. ROOAAGGGGHH!! Please enjoy this sneak peek track [see below] set to some New Zealand madness. For UK fans, we have been confirmed on the Ghostfest festival in Leeds on June 29th. We will be adding more UK dates added shortly. Once again, thanks for your support over all these years."
THE BERZERKER has so far released four full-length albums: "The Berzerker" (2000), "Dissimulate" (2002), "World of Lies" (2005) and "Animosity" (2007), all through Earache Records. During the early part of their career as a live act, band members were identified only as The Vocalist, The Guitarist, The Bassist and The Drummer, distinguishable on stage only by the intricate monster masks they wore. However, the group has since abandoned this concept.
A DVD documentary, "The Principles and Practices of The Berzerker" (2004), includes several hours of live concert footage, as well as the first public images of the band members without their monster masks.
Most of the band's music videos have been banned from broadcast for reasons such as the possible epileptic fit-inducing imagery contained in the video "Forever", and the horrific imagery of "Reality". The latter features graphic images of cadavers and body parts, along with appearances from the band themselves.

IGOR CAVALERA: 'I Don't Really Feel It Makes Sense For SEPULTURA To Continue'Former SEPULTURA and current CAVALERA CONSPIRACY drummer Igor Cavalera was interviewed this past week by Andrew Haug of Triple J's "Full Metal Racket" (based in Australia). An excerpt from the chat follows:
Q: Have the [current] members of SEPULTURA commented on the [CAVALERA CONSPIRACY debut] record ["Inflikted"] at all?
Igor: "I haven't heard or read anything about it. I probably will see sometime what they think about the album, but I don't think that'll be a problem. Whatever they think, it's their opinion, and it's good with me. I'm not gonna be the one judging — the same way that I'm not gonna be the one judging whatever they're gonna do with SEPULTURA. It's like, I have so much more stuff going on in my life to worry about that this, for me, is something that is definitely not a problem."
Q: So you don't really feel too much now with the band [SEPULTURA] continuing to use the name when it no longer contains the original members — being Max [Cavalera] and yourself?
Igor: "I don't know, man. It's a crazy situation. At the same time, I don't really feel it makes sense for the band to continue, but also I feel that I'm not the one that's gonna stop the whole thing. It's a tough situation. For me, I just want to focus on positive things."
CAVALERA CONSPIRACY will team up with THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, THROWDOWN, BURY YOUR DEAD and INCITE for a North American tour in July.
According to a posting on CAVALERA CONSPIRACY's MySpace page, "the select shows for this tour may be [the band's] only performances in the U.S. in support of 'Inflikted' [CC's debut album]."
"Inflikted" sold 9,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at No. 72 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Former YNGWIE/LOUDNESS Singer MICHAEL VESCERA To Release Solo Album; Samples AvailableVocalist Michael Vescera (OBSESSION, ex-YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, LOUDNESS) is scheduled to release a solo album, entitled "Sign of Things to Come", sometime this summer. Three songs from the CD — "Say the Word", "Sign of Things to Come" and "Something to Believe" — are available for streaming at this location (scroll down to the bottom of the player).
Vescera rose to metal popularity at the age of 18 years old as the legendary vocalist of the band OBSESSION. A classically trained pianist, Mike chose the path of a metal frontman instead of Julliard.
In recent years, Mike Vescera has gained a reputation in the business as being a masterful producer and engineer working from his studio The Toy Room, which was located in the hills of Connecticut just outside of New York. Recently the studio has been moved to Nashville, Tennesse where Mike now makes his home. The studio is second to none utilizing state of the art software and technology to achieve unrivaled flexibility and dimension of sound. It holds both major-label and small-budget accounts serving all styles of music. It also holds major network voice-over accounts for several popular shows.
Mike continues to work as a producer and engineer on a variety of selected projects.
OBSESSION had its 2006 CD, "Carnival of Lies", re-released through Mausoleum Records on February 12, 2008. This reissue features new artwork and the bonus tracks "Panic in the Streets" (previously only available on the Avalon release in Japan) and "Judas". The album's title track features Swedish guitar sensation Robert Marcello (DANGER DANGER, IRONHORSE) and Boston based neo-classical shred-god Joe Stump (REIGN OF TERROR).

NINE INCH NAILS Mainman Releases Surprise Single to RadioNINE INCH NAILS mainman Trent Reznor earlier today (Tuesday, April 22) released a brand new song, titled "Discipline", to radio stations. Unlike the instrumental "Ghosts I-IV" album, which was web-released less than two months ago, the new track actually features vocals from Reznor. In addition, an April 21 post on NINE INCH NAILS' official web site, www.nin.com, reads "2 weeks!" echoing a similarly mysterious message posted in mid-February that ultimately resulted in the release of "Ghosts I-IV".
NINE INCH NAILS recently launched an online film festival showcasing short films made by fans to accompany music from the new NINE INCH NAILS album, "Ghosts I – IV". According to a press release, the NINE INCH NAILS channel on YouTube, which went live on March 13, is accepting submissions immediately through May 1. Music from "Ghosts I – IV" is available for filmmakers through YouTube's AudioSwap channel. Submissions will be personally reviewed by Trent Reznor, who will host a festival featuring the best entries at a later date.
Reznor released "Ghosts I – IV" online on March 2. The two-hour collection of 36 untitled instrumental tracks was made available in various high-quality DRM-free formats at different price levels. According to a press statement, a total of 781,917 copies of the project were transacted at NIN.com in the first week of release, including paid and free downloads, plus pre-orders for physical editions of the set. The total gross earned was reported as $1,619,420.
The expensive "ultra-deluxe" limited edition of "Ghosts I - IV" sold out almost instantly despite a steep $300 price tag. A digital version is available for five dollars, along with a $75 limited edition "deluxe" package. A $10 double CD version and a $39 vinyl edition was made available at U.S. retail on April 8.

ALL SHALL PERISH 'Is Becoming A Well-Oiled Machine In The Studio'After touring 10 out of 12 months in 2007, Oakland, California-based death metal band ALL SHALL PERISH has finally begun recording the follow-up to "The Price of Existence", set to be released worldwide later in the year on Nuclear Blast Records.
Commented the group: "Great news is finally here, we have been working frantically around the clock with Zach Ohren at Castle Ultimate Studios to create what we concider the heaviest, most cutting-edge PERISH album to date. Listening back on what we have already laid down in the studio, its apparent that we have upped our game again compared to the last CD. The new stuff literally is sending chills down my spine!
"Last week we finished up all of the drums, rhythm guitars, and bass guitar. This week, we have moved on to vocals and guitar solos. It's incredible how fast the whole process has been going, and it really shows that ASP is becoming a well-oiled machine in the studio."

We're looking forward to yet another successful collaboration. We'll barricade ourselves for the next month and a half. BATTLELORE Vocalist On New Album: 'I Do Believe That We Have Excellent Songs'Finnish "fantasy metal" band BATTLELORE recently entered Sound Supreme Studios in Hämeenlinna, Finland, with producer Janne Saksa to begin recording its fifth album, tentatively titled "The Last Alliance".
Regarding the group's new material, vocalist Tomi Mykkänen said, "I do believe that we have excellent songs and the execution is excellent. My vocals are more diverse than before, and, as promised, there are quite a few clean parts from me. I hope you'll like them when you hear the album. The grunting parts are also more diverse than before, I used quite a lot of my blacker vocal style but then again there are more 'death metal' grunting parts as well. I think that I managed to do a decent job with the vocals."
BATTLELORE is recording 9-10 songs for the forthcoming CD, which will be mixed and mastered by the Swedish multi-instrumentalist and producer Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY, NIGHTINGALE, ex-BLOODBATH).
Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "The Last Alliance", "Exile The Daystar", "Daughter Of The Sun", "Third Immortal" and "Voice Of The Fallen".

LORDI Begins Recording New AlbumFinnish monster rock n' roll band LORDI has entered the studio to record the follow-up to "The Arockalypse".
Commented the group: "We don't wanna record 'The Arockalypse Part 2', but we won't forget our roots either."
The band chose from over 60 songs to record. "It's the same positive problem as always," laughs guitarist Amen. "Oh yeah, 60 demos is a lot to listen to, but at the same time it's a lot of fun. All the band members took part in the writing process and that was very positive too."
This is the first time bassist Ox and keyboardist Lady Awa will be in the studio at the start of a recording.
"I'm so excited! I just can't wait to hear the final results. The new songs kick ass so hard! I honestly think that this is gonna be the best LORDI album," says a thrilled Ox.
Lady Awa is enthusiastic about the new album too. "I joined the band at the time when LORDI was recording 'The Arockalypse' album, so I had to go straight to the studio and I didn't have much time to get to know the new songs," Awa says. "Now I've had a couple of years — such a joyride — and I have had time to 'get in' into the band. So now I'm even more excited about making the new album, choosing and practicing the songs. I have even tried to compose a little bit by myself."
The recordings should be finished by summer, with the new album due out later this year.
In other news, The End Records has set a May 13 release date for the reissue of LORDI's 2002 debut album "Get Heavy". The reissue comes with the exclusive bonus track "Don't Let My Mother Know".

DARK FUNERAL Extends REGAIN RECORDS Contract Guitarist/founding member Lord Ahriman of the Swedish black metal outfit DARK FUNERAL has issued the following update:
"I guess it's about time to let you guys know what's going on here. Well, we are currently working on material for a new full-length album. We're in the very early stages of the writing process though. There's still a lot of work before we're ready to hit the studio, but we're on the right course at least! Plan is, however, to be ready to record a new album sometime during 2008, with a possible early 2009 release (but it all depends on when we're ready to record and so on, of course). We will keep you posted on the writing progress and what kind of time plan we'll put up for the new album. We have also renewed our contract with Regain Records. So we will be releasing the next album through them too. In the meantime, and during the wait for our new studio album, we would suggest that you check out two killer DVDs that we have released, 'Attera Orbis Terrarum' parts 1 and 2 (part two will be released on May 22). Also, keep your eyes open for the date when we'll launch our webstore 'Diaboliswear!''
DARK FUNERAL's second DVD recorded during the band's world tour in support of the "Attera Totus Sanctus" album, entitled "Attera Orbis Terrarum - Part 2", focuses on South American shows, where the band has a fanatical following. The first DVD, "Attera Orbis Terrarum - Part 1", which landed on the Swedish DVD chart at No. 5, contained footage from the European leg of the band's world tour. The two-disc set includes three complete, professionally-filmed live shows and rare bonus footage. The first show was filmed with seven cameras on March 12, 2005 in Katowice, Poland. The second was filmed the following March in Tilburg, The Netherlands with four cameras. The second disc starts off with a camera-shot show from March 2006 in Paris, followed by the video clip for "Atrum Regina" and previously unreleased amateur footage that chronicles the Swedish black metal band's entire career, including the very first, and now legendary, show in Oslo, Norway on May 4, 1994. The total combined running time for the two discs is nearly four hours.

NIGHTMARE Working On 'Queen Of Love And Pain' Video French power metallers NIGHTMARE have issued the following update:
"The band are currently also shooting another new video clip for the song 'Queen Of Love And Pain' directed by French talented producer Stéphane Gilbart and filmed with the collaboration of Israeli model Jasmin Kedem. It will be available at the end of May.
"The band will introduce brand new lineup exclusively for three shows (Hellfest, Casa Gateways, Metalcamp). Jean Christophe Lefevre will replace exclusively for these shows Alex Hilbert on guitar who cannot perform there for reasons out of his control. The remaining dates will be performed with regular lineup."
"Final Procession", the new video from NIGHTMARE, can be viewed below. The song comes off the group's latest album, "Genetic Disorder", which was released in North America on February 5. The CD, which came out in Europe on October 31, 2007 via Regain Records, was recorded at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden with producers Fredrik Nordström and Henrik Udd (IN FLAMES, HAMMERFALL, DIMMU BORGIR, ARCH ENEMY).

REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE's Keyboardist Is Not JENS JOHANSSONFormer STRATOVARIUS mainman Timo Tolkki has announced that he has selected a keyboardist for his new project REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE. Although Timo has yet to reveal the musician's identity, Tolkki did offer that the band's newest addition "is not Jens [Johansson, ex-STRATOVARIUS keyboardist]."
REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE will release its debut album, "New Era", on June 6 via Frontiers Records. According to a press release, the CD "is a masterpiece of melodic power metal, taking the listener straight back to the 'Visions'-era STRATOVARIUS. In fact, 'New Era' is the album that was meant to be the next STRATOVARIUS album.
"Timo called a few friends for the recording sessions and the album features all the lead vocals from such legends as Michael Kiske [HELLOWEEN] and Tobias Sammet [EDGUY, AVANTASIA], along with Timo's blistering lead guitar lines and melodic power metal anthems that made him one of the pioneers of the style and trademark performers of the style. REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE witnesses a rebirth, a new era for Timo Tolkki and his music."
Other musicians that reportedly appear on "New Era" include Pasi Rantanen (vocals; THUNDERSTONE), Mirka Rantanen (drums; THUNDERSTONE) and Pasi Heikkilä (bass; 45 DEGREE WOMAN).
"Revolution Renaissance" track listing (singer of each song listed next to its title):
01. Heroes (Sammet)
02. I Did It My Way (Kiske)
03. We Are Magic (Rantanen)
04. Angel (Kiske)
05. Eden Is Burning (Rantanen)
06. Glorious And Divine (Sammet)
07. Born Upon The Cross (Rantanen)
08. Keep The Flame Alive (Kiske)
09. Last Night On Earth (Kiske)
10. Revolution Renaissance (Kiske)

In a recent issue of Finland's Soundi magazine, Tolkki states about the CD, "The [REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE album] contains more or less 'Visions'-style [STRATOVARIUS' acclaimed 1997 release] power metal. Michael Kiske, Pasi Rantanen, Mirka Rantanen, Pasi Heikkilä and Tobias Sammet have recorded their parts. But if there are any live performances, the lineup won't be the same. I have been thinking of asking Jens [Johansson, STRATOVARIUS keyboardist] and Lauri [Porra, STRATOVARIUS bassist] to join me for this."
Regarding the band's name, Timo says, "On the album, there's one song with this title, and Frontiers suggested it to be the band's name too. I thought it was good idea."
When asked if he will perform any STRATOVARIUS songs with REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE, Tolkki replies, "Well, what do you think? Of course. I can play my songs with whomever I want."
