HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta is currently working on material for his forthcoming solo project.

"I am in such a great space creatively these days," he said. "I have been writing profusely on my solo material. I don't have a release date in mind for this project, but my studio work is certainly sharpening my vocal and writing skills for the next HATEBREED studio album which is going to be completely next level!"

Jamey Jasta will play a solo show at this year's South By Southwest music and media conference in Austin, Texas. He will perform on Saturday, March 15 at Red 7.

Jamey previously stated that HATEBREED's next studio release will be a "covers" albums, which will include the band's versions of songs from such varied acts as CRO-MAGS, CROWBAR, D.R.I. and METALLICA.

Norwegian "schizo" metallers ATROX have set "Binocular" as the title of their fifth album, due in April via Season of Mist. According to a press release, the CD "takes you through the twilight zone between progressive rock and avantgarde metal. 'Binocular' shows an important change in the vocal department and an extensive use of electronics and computers. Atmospheric and energetic, groove based arrangements and catchy melodies wrapped up in a metallic symbiosis."

ATROCITY's video for the band's cover of the A-HA track "The Sun Always Shines On TV" can be viewed below. The song comes off the German group's new album, "Werk 80 II", which entered the Austrian chart at position No. 74. The CD also landed on the on the Deutsche Alternative Trendcharts (DAT20) at No. 14.

ATROCITY's cover of "The Sun Always Shines On TV" is currently at No. 17 on the Deutsche Alternative chart (often referred to as DAC).

"Immortal"'s vocal sessions were helmed by producer Jim Morris, who has worked with ICED EARTH on the group's last few releases. The CD was mixed by Jacob Hansen (RAUNCHY, INVOCATOR, MERCENARY).

Frontiers Records will release the new solo album from former HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske, entitled "Past In Different Ways", on May 9.

This much-talked-about CD includes acoustic and stripped down reworked versions of some of HELLOWEEN's classics that Kiske wrote and recorded in his early days with the legendary German heavy metal band.

"When Serafino Perugino brought up the idea to do this record," says Michael, "my first reaction was, 'No way! I don't want to be dealing with my past all the time anymore!' But after a few days my thinking changed and I thought, 'Maybe it's not such a bad idea after all.' Because on one hand it shows that I don't reject my past just because I'm a different person today and on the other hand it can maybe give people who were part of that past a different view at those songs. It's my music, I can still identify myself with its spirit, so why should I not do this?"

Working in a creatively free environment helped Michael to look at his past with different eyes and brought the idea of working again on the songs that Michael wrote for HELLOWEEN during his years with the band. The result is "Past In Different Ways", a record which includes brand new recordings of Kiske's songs taken off the two "Keeper" albums, "Chameleon" and "Pink Bubbles Go Ape", plus the brand new song "Different Ways".

The unconventional arrangements of many of the tracks will surprise and delight many of his fans and more surprising is to see how well these songs sound with a basic acoustic arrangement, without the "useless weight" and with new keys. "Songs like 'In The Night' or 'When The Sinner', which were never favourites of mine, are much cooler and much more convincing now for my ears," says Michael.

The album was recorded and mixed in Hamburg under Michael Kiske's direction and features longtime collaborators such as Sandro Giampietro on guitar, Fontaine Burnett on bass and Karsten Nagel on drums.

Kiske concludes: "It was not always easy for me emotionally to deal with this material. Music somehow seems to preserve emotional memories and I connect big human disappointments with the last years of that time. There's also something very unsatisfying about re-recording old songs; it's always MUCH better to write new stuff, but I wanted to make those songs mine again. And in spite of the fact that I strongly felt for the last couple of years that I rather have to build myself a new base of friends, it's always good to make peace with your past."

Drummer Derek Roddy (ex-HATE ETERNAL, NILE) has left TODAY IS THE DAY as a result of an apparent financial dispute with the group's mainman Steve Austin. Derek has reportedly been replaced on the band's current tour by Mike Rosswog (CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN, COMPLETE FAILURE).

TODAY IS THE DAY's eighth studio album, "Axis of Eden", was released last September on SuperNova Records, the label founded by Steve Austin. SuperNova Records is distributed exclusively by MRI/RED in the U.S., FAB in Canada, Cargo in Europe, and IODA for all digital distribution.

Two videos have already been shot for the album — one for the song "Keep On Galloping" the other for the track "Metsämies".

"Korven Kuningas" will be released as a limited first edition with bonus tracks and on white colored vinyl. There will also be a strictly limited digipak version (limited and numbered to 500 copies) which will include a drinking horn on a wall holder.

Swedish metallers SONIC SYNDICATE will enter Black Lounge Studios in Avesta, Sweden tomorrow (Sunday, March 16) to begin recording their as-yet-untitled new album for a fall release via Nuclear Blast Records.

Commented bassist Karin Axelsson: "We can't wait to get started. It's been an amazing year and everyone has been writing new music like crazy at home and on tour. A lot of people have been asking what the new material will sound like and all I have to say is, 'Time will tell.'"

An audio clip of a new DISTURBED track, entitled "Inside The Fire", has been posted at the Rock on the Range MySpace page.

"Inside The Fire" is the first single from DISTURBED's upcoming album "Indestructible", due on June 3 via Reprise/Warner Bros. A video for the song was filmed with director Nathan Cox (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, MARILYN MANSON, LINKIN PARK).

In a recent interview with RollingStone.com, DISTURBED frontman David Draiman stated about "Inside the Fire", "That's a real racy song. It's about me standing over the body of my girlfriend, who just killed herself, and the Devil is standing over me, whispering in my ear to kill myself."

Chilean progressive/doom metallers MAR DE GRISES will release their new album, "Draining the Waterheart", on April 14 via Firebox Records. Two separate versions of the LP will be made available: the regular album and a limited-edition digipack (A5 format) that will include a bonus mini-CD, entitled "Unconscios Passenger". The artwork was designed by Tuomo Lethonen (SWALLOW THE SUN, GRAVE FLOWERS).

According to the band, the CD contains "more than 60 minutes of an intense and unique kind of music.

"We took quite a long time to compose and record it, but we are pleased with the result. As always, our musical limits at the time of composing it were still very few.

"The songs have varied structures and musical arrangements; the guitars are very varied in terms of melody. We tried a lot of new things, and in general, this album seems to be a bit more aggressive and technical.

"About the title of the album and songs, they represent, in some way, an act of liberation of our most deep feelings. The endless contradictions of a thinking being yet emotional, illusions, disillusions, and our most bitter feelings conjugate, inspiring us in this new sonorous story.

MACHINE HEAD's ultra-rare video for the demo song "Fuck It All" (a.k.a. "Block") has been posted on YouTube and can be viewed below. The clip, which is believed to have been shot in 1993 before MACHINE HEAD got signed to Roadrunner Records, was directed by Jerry Allen of Metallian Productions and was originally made available on the "Tales from the Pit" video magazine.

The MACHINE HEAD lineup featured in the video includes drummer Tony Costanza, who was replaced by Chris Kontos prior to the recording of the band's classic debut, "Burn My Eyes".

Portuguese metallers MOONSPELL have finalized the track listing for their new album, "Night Eternal", due in Europe on May 19 and in the U.S. on June 10 via SPV/Steamhammer. The follow-up to 2006's "Memorial" was recorded at Antfarm studios in Denmark with producer Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, DARK TRANQUILLITY, HALFORD).

There will be, at first, two editions of the record: A limited double digipack with different artwork, one bonus track ("Age of Mothers"), a different version of the song "Scorpion Flower", the full album as well as a bonus DVD containing all video clips from "Memorial" plus "Finisterra" "making-of" footage and three live clips from last year's performance at the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany; plus the jewel case edition, to which the band hopes to add at least another bonus song.

Former THE GATHERING and current AGUA DE ANNIQUE vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen makes a guest appearance in the song "Scorpion Flower", singing a duet with MOONSPELL frontman Fernando Ribeiro. All other female choirs were performed by the Crystal Mountain Singers, composed of Carmen Simões (AVA INFERI), Sophia Vieira (CINEMUERTE) and Patrícia Andrade (ex-VOLSTAD, now in THE VANITY CHAIR). Niclas Etelävuori of AMORPHIS played bass on the album, which features artwork by Seth Siro Anton (PARADISE LOST, SEPTIC FLESH). Band photography was handled by Edgar Keats.

With the framework for the Armageddon of Man firmly laid with the band’s
2007 full-length release, "Framing Armageddon - Something Wicked Part I", ICED EARTH are set to launch the next installment of Jon Schaffer's "Something Wicked" saga with the release of their new single, "I Walk Among You", in June of 2008. The full-length studio follow-up to "Something Wicked Part I" is due for release in fall of 2008.

The new single and proceeding full-length studio album mark the return to the band of longtime frontman Matt Barlow, whose dark and sinister tones are the perfect fit to narrate the intense and viscous annihilation of mankind set in motion with the birth of the story’s main character, "Set Abominae", in "Something Wicked Part II". The single will allow fans to get a glimpse of the bright future for the band, and the perhaps not-so-bright future for humanity as we now know it.

The single will feature three songs, an exclusive version of the song "I Walk Alone" and a few tracks from "Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Part 1)" with new vocal performances by Matt Barlow. Due to the re-tracking of the lead vocals these tracks have been remixed and remastered. There will be an iTunes-exclusive version of the single "I Walk Among You" that features "A Charge To Keep" which has also been re-sung by Matt, remixed and re-mastered.

The video for "I Walk Alone" is being filmed in early April.

All tracks were recorded at Jon Schaffer's studio, Soaring Eagle Sound, and mixed and mastered at Morrisound. The single, and following full-length platter will be released by Steamhammer/SPV.

Metal Mind Productions will release the first-ever DVD from Polish extreme metallers DECAPITATED, entitled "Human's Dust", on June 9 in Europe and June 10 in the U.S. The DVD will be available in two versions: as a standard DVD and as a very unique star metalpack DVD edition limited to 3,000 copies.

The main feature of the DVD consists of the band's October 2002 gig in Krakow, which was a part of their European tour with VADER and KRISIUN. NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon will make a guest appearance on the new album from Finnish rockers THE RASMUS, entitled "Black Roses".

Commented THE RASMUS singer Lauri Ylönen: "We've had a really busy spring, putting the album together with the guys. These 'last-minute' ideas and fixes have become come very important for the 'Black Roses' album, so all the waiting is worth it! For example, we brought this eight-year-old song idea back to life. It's a duet song. I got a wild idea to ask the NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon to sing it together with me. I called her and she said YES! So good things come for those who wait. We're getting there! Prepare yourselves for the greatest murder ballad in a while!!"

Olzon recently made a guest appearance on the song "Heart Full Of Fire" from BROTHER FIRETRIBE, the Finnish AOR/hard rock band featuring NIGHTWISH guitarist Emppu Vuorinen. The track is the title cut of BROTHER FIRETRIBE's new album, which is scheduled for release on May 14 via Spinefarm Records.

Quebec City's dark metallers MOONLYGHT will release their long-awaited sophomore album soon on March 25 via Mankind's Demise Records (with Galy distribution). According to a press release, "the ten-track monster called 'Shining' is the epitaph of MOONLYGHT, as the band calls it quits following the [December 2007] departure of Roby [guitarist/vocalist Sébastien Robitaille]. Their musical testament is a universal melodic metal masterpiece. Drawing influences from melodic death metal, progressive music and a twist of doom metal, 'Shining' will please almost every fan of melodic metal, from power to black metal." The pressing will be limited to 1,000 copies.

"Shining" was mastered by Peter in de Betou at Tailor Maid (DIMMU BORGIR, MESHUGGAH, DARK TRANQUILLITY) in Sweden.

MOONLYGHT re-released its first album, "Progressive Darkness" (originally issued in 2002 on the now-defunct Metal Disk Records), in 2004 via Sweden's Escapi Records.

BBC News reports that IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson's upcoming supernatural horror-thriller will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

"Chemical Wedding" will then be released in British cinemas in the summer.

Dickinson, a trained pilot, is due to fly invited guests to Cannes on the band's own Boeing 757 jet for the premiere on May 17.

"Chemical Wedding" wrapped principal photography in September with Julian Doyle at the helm. The film stars Simon Callow as a reincarnation of Crowley, once dubbed "the most evil man in Britain." Callow's character, Haddo, is a shy, stuttering professor.

"My experience with stages is obviously IRON MAIDEN and that sort of stuff," Bruce said. "I've directed a few videos over the course of my rock 'n' roll past and I enjoyed them, I enjoyed directing videos. Writing movies a completely different thing. I wrote a couple of absurd comic novels — that came out as well, and you know, they did OK actually. So, writing is something that's always sort of interested me, so this seemed like a good opportunity to learn the process, really."

Portuguese metallers MOONSPELL have posted two brand new songs from their "Night Eternal" album — "Scorpian Flower" and the title track — on their MySpace page. The follow-up to 2006's "Memorial" was recorded at Antfarm studios in Denmark with producer Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, DARK TRANQUILLITY, HALFORD). Frontiers Records has revealed more information about the highly anticipated new GLENN HUGHES album, entitled "First Underground Nuclear Kitchen (F.U.N.K.)", which is scheduled for release on May 11.

Produced by Glenn in Los Angeles, after countless hours spent writing in his home studio, "F.U.N.K." is another magnificent statement from the "Voice of Rock." "It is a roots album, it is a true account of my musical heritage but also fearless and multi-dimensional," says Hughes.

Once again Glenn has reinvented himself and his art, being able to offer a new album which is truly emotional and picturing his own current way to speak the language of music.

"The beauty of makin' music, for me", explains the former DEEP PURPLE and singer and bassist, "is to have a vast blank canvas. To completely open myself up to the universe and the spirits, that these days, live with me day and night. I am no longer in fear of the dark, or what lurks behind door number 13. Once again all drums on the record were played by none other than the great Chad Smith of the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, while Luis Maldonado took care of the majority of the guitars (JJ Marsh and George Nastos only appear on two songs each) and Anders Olinder is on keyboards (with Ed Roth guesting on three songs).

Audio samples of all 12 tracks that are set to appear on "A Sense Of Purpose", the new album from Swedish metallers IN FLAMES, are available for streaming at Play.com. OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt has recorded a guest appearance on the track "Unhealer" while Asgeir Mickelson and Lars Norberg (both of SPIRAL ARCHITECT) were responsible for laying down the drum and bass tracks on the CD, respectively.

Commented Ihsahn: "[Mikael and I] been talking about doing something for a while and I'm really happy it finally came together. Needless to say, Mikael's performance is nothing short of amazing!

"Asgeir and Lars have delivered a rock-solid foundation for the whole album. Pounding blast-beats to slow fretless passages are all performed with great precision."

Ihsahn previously described the musical direction of the new CD as "a natural progression from 'The Adversary' [2006], but with a somewhat heavier touch."

"The Adversary" entered the Norwegian album chart at position No. 33 upon its release in 2006. The CD was written and recorded over a one-year period at Symphonique Studios in Norway and features a guest appearance by Garm from ULVER on one song. All music and lyrics for "The Adversary" were written and performed by Ihsahn with exception of drums, which were played by Asgeir Mickelson (BORKNAGAR, SPIRAL ARCHITECT). A video for "Invocation", the opening track from "The Adversary", can be viewed below. The clip was shot and produced in Notodden, Norway by a local production company. "I think the video reflects both the direct and solitary expression of the album," Ihsahn said. "It was my intention to keep everything as pure and intense as possible, yet staying true to metal tradition."

Austrian extreme metallers BELPHEGOR have posted the title track of their forthcoming album, "Bondage Goat Zombie", on their MySpace page. A video for the song was recently filmed and will make its online premiere soon.

"Bondage Goat Zombie" is scheduled for release on April 15 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Andy Classen's Stage One Studios in Kassel, Germany.

InformationWeek.com reports that NINE INCH NAILS frontman Trent Reznor sold out of a $300 edition of the band's new album after offering free music online.

Fans bought 2,500 copies of the ultradeluxe edition of the new album, "Ghosts I-IV", offered at the same time as free tracks and other music packages that begin as low as $5. The most expensive option sold out in three days, and activity on the Web site crashed its servers.

Reznor gave fans the choice of downloading four digital albums for $5, downloading the same package and receiving a CD for $10, downloading some of the songs free, or buying various pricier packages with additional content and features, like video and slide shows, starting at $75.

North Carolina-based DAYLIGHT DIES has issued the following update:

"As we speak, our new album 'Lost to the Living' is being mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden. We are also nearing completion of the layout together with Travis Smith, which includes art and lyrics for every song. We went for a stark and dramatic approach this time: matte black paper, with stencil images in glossy black ink. Text logos in silver. Unfortunately it's impossible to properly render precisely what this will look like on a computer screen, so we've altered the cover so the glossy black is a dark shade of grey, and the text/logo is a lighter shade of grey. Nevertheless, heres the cover of our new album.

"The album will be released by Candlelight Records on June 24th and it will be available for pre-order on daylightdies.com before too long."
