LORDI To Represent Finland In EUROVISION SONG CONTEST

LORDI To Represent Finland In EUROVISION SONG CONTEST

Finland's hard rockers LORDI, whose live show is described as "a combination of theatre, fire and horror," have been selected as the Finnish representatives in the Eurovision Song Contest. LORDI won the Finnish national selection with the song "Hard Rock Hallelujah" and will represent the country in the semifinal of the 51st Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, Greece on May 18, according to ESCToday.com.

The band scored a runaway victory in the super-final of the Finnish national final on Friday, March 10. They picked up 42.2% of the votes, outstripping their nearest rival TOMI METSÄKEDON who scored 28.5%, according to Doteurovision.com. After the twelve competing songs had been heard for a first time Friday night, voting cut down the field to six. These songs were performed one more time and then voting continued to pick the winner.

LORDI have just released their new album, entitled "The Arockalypse". The CD features guest appearances by TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider and guitarist Jay Jay French, as well as former ACCEPT vocalist Udo Dirkschneider and ex-KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick.

VIRGIN BLACK To Release Three Albums Simultaneously

VIRGIN BLACK To Release Three Albums Simultaneously

Australia's dark-metal-hybrid act VIRGIN BLACK will follow up their well-received 2003 offering "Elegant...and Dying" by releasing three albums simultaneously in 2006 on The End Records. Each CD is "a separate entity, but each is also linked through recurring musical themes and artistic motifs," according to a press release. "When fully unfurled in all its grandeur, listeners will experience a grandiloquent two-and-a-half hour requiem mass with three stages of evolution."

The three albums are described in the following way:

* "Requiem – Pianissimo" is an entirely classical album with instrumentation performed by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and featuring spectacular choral arrangements along with tenor, mezzo-soprano and soprano solo voices. "Requiem – Pianissimo" forsakes guitars and drums in favour of the melancholic tragedy and bombastic dynamics of classical composition.

* "Requiem – Mezzo Forte" is where the band joins the orchestra and strikes a balance more reminiscent of previous VIRGIN BLACK outings, albeit with greater epic breadth.

* The final album, "Requiem – Fortissimo", unleashes a sound infinitely heavier than anything in VIRGIN BLACK’s history. While still retaining an air of classical sensibility, it concludes the series with an intense dose of death/doom.

A release date for the albums has not yet been set.

Nebelhex¸ Album and Perfume coming up!

Nebelhex¸ Album and Perfume coming up!

NEBELHEX?, or rather Andrea Haugen, does not need any introduction really, as she has been mesmerizing the alternative music scenes since '94, often described as one of the most intriguing and charismatic artists of the subculture. Her latest album is called "Essensual". Like the extravagant title, this is a unique album with new and fresh sounds. With an almost pop like production, this album will surely attract a broader audience. With this album she tries to express hidden feelings, various thoughts within the psyche, the bad experiences that shape us, thoughts about our real being, thus the title "Essensual". The essence of sensuality. Exposing both a glamorous side and the darker real side within, reflecting the diversity of Andrea’s inner self. As always she creates with sincere emotion and honesty.

With the album, Andrea has fashioned her own perfume, Nebelhex? 'Essensual’. (She already has been selling bottles of Nebelhex? perfume oil at her concerts in the past.)

DIO: In Writing Mode

DIO: In Writing Mode

Ronnie James Dio's (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) official web site has been updated with the following message:

"Ronnie and company are busy writing a new [DIO] studio record to be released later this year. Touring is expected to gear up in May with a South American jaunt, followed by a European tour commencing May 27 in Belgium. Dates will be announced as soon as they are confirmed, so keep watching the tour page for details."

As previously reported, Eagle Rock Entertainment has set an April 18 North American release date for DIO's "Holy Diver Live" CD (one day earlier internationally). Captured live in 2005 in front of a sold-out London crowd, "Holy Diver Live" sees Ronnie James Dio delivering a truly memorable performance on this truly memorable night. Dio has been hailed as one of the finest voices in heavy metal for over 30 years now and for good reason. Due to his stints in RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH and as a solo artist, Dio is one of the few people in the history of music that can honestly say they have played on three classic albums, each under a different moniker. "Holy Diver Live" features the classic "Holy Diver" album in its entirety, from start to finish, recorded live for the very first time. It also features, among others, "Heaven & Hell", "Sign of the Southern Cross" and "Mob Rules" from his BLACK SABBATH days, "Tarot Woman", "Man on the Silver Mountain" and "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" from the RAINBOW era and "We Rock" from his solo career.

POTENTIA ANIMI signs to Staupa Musica Worldwide!

POTENTIA ANIMI signs to Staupa Musica Worldwide!

Metal Blade Records go medieval! No, not at all! But as some of you might know, Metal Blade started a sublabel called Staupa Musica in 2004. In the beginning it was meant to bring German medieval music into all of Europe . The first two albums that Staupa Musica released outside of Germany were CORVUS CO RA X’ “ Seikilos” and POTENTIA ANIMI’s “ Das erste Gebet”.

In the beginning of 2006 POTENTIA ANIMI decided to work together with Staupa Musica in Germany as well. As a result their second sin, “Psalm II”, will be released in Germany , Austria and Switzerland on April 28 th (May 1 st in the rest of Europe ).

Expect the five monks in best shape, telling again some ( un)holy stories about the treasures and secrets that are hidden behind church walls (and that were meant to remain there!). Be lead into temptation by hypnotic medieval rhythms and archaic choirs and chants combined with poppy choruses and elements of modern (Hard) Rock. Frivolous and waggish lyrics, not quite meant to be taken seriously, are served on top.

In February the German press already had the chance to have a listen to this masterpiece of medieval music with a modern approach! Listen what they experienced:

„Someone who links medieval instruments and sacral choirs to dusty and quixotic church music, should experience POTENTIA ANIMI. It’s a musical and lyrical kick in the ass. They play a unique mixture of whimsical and che eky lyrics below the waistline, guitar riffing and perfectly trained choirs. These monks couldn’t be more entertaining !“ Andre as Kais, Metal Heart Germany

“’Psalm II’ is a real masterpiece! […] These monks have the unique ability to arouse even extremely uptight people!” Thomas Manegold, www.subkultur.com

Here’s the tracklist of “Psalm II”:
01.)  Intro
02.)  Ave Maria
03.)  Eifersucht
04.)  Qui Per Mundum
05.)  Anima
06.)  Manus Ferens
07.)  Drei Reiter
08.)  Verlorene Haufen
09.)  Bettelweib
10.)  Non Major
11.)  Die R?uber
12.)  Ewigkeit
13.)  Viva La More

CRADLE OF FILTH î ñâîåì íîâîì àëüáîìå

CRADLE OF FILTH recently spent time working on the as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2004's "Nymphetamine" at Lincolnshire, England's Chapel studios with producer Rob Caggiano (BLEEDING THROUGH, ANTHRAX).

"I'm not saying it's 'experimental,' but we're definitely testing the limits of what we can do," Dani frontman Dani Filth recently told Revolver magazine about the new CD. "This is our sixth or seventh record, so we're trying to spice things up to keep the marriage going!"

"We were hungry to write again," Filth added. Once we finished all our tours [in 2005], we spent the summer just writing. Nobody really throught about where it was going, which is why I think it's really fresh sounding. A lot of the songs are really rhythmical — thrashy, almost — but they're all also really catchy."

TIAMAT's Classic 'Wildhoney' Album To Be Reissued In May

INSOMNIUM To Enter Studio In April

INSOMNIUM To Enter Studio In April

Finnish melodic death metallers INSOMNIUM will enter Fantom studios in early April to begin recording their third album. "Some crystal-clear and yet brutal sounds are to be expected since Fantom is the name behind some of the best albums ever produced in Finland," the band write on their web site. "The songs which are to be recorded include such dreary titles as 'At the Gates of Sleep', 'The Mortal Share', 'Drawn to Black' and 'The Killjoy'. The new material is clearly more aggressive, punchy and tighter than the previous album but the melancholic mood, wistful melodies, doomish passages and progressive twists are still present."

Commented vocalist/bassist Niilo Sevänen: "For sure this is going to be our greatest effort so far. This will be a very versatile album and each song will be full of nuances. There is fury and there is sorrow. Scandinavian melodic death metal at its finest!"

SINISTHRA Featuring AMORPHIS Frontman: Demo Completed; Band Seek New Label Home

SINISTHRA Featuring AMORPHIS Frontman: Demo Completed; Band Seek New Label Home

SINISTHRA (formerly NEVERGREEN), the Finnish band featuring current AMORPHIS frontman Tomi Joutsen, have issued the following update via their official web site:

"Isn't it just bloody irritating when bands can't be bothered to update their webpages? Our excuse for not updating is.. err.. well, there just isn't that much to report at the moment. We are currently unsigned and have just recorded four new songs for demonstrational purposes. We'll start sending out the demos to record labels shortly with a message saying 'sign us or your family gets it' so in a perfect world it's only a matter of time before we land a satisfying deal.

"We're not planning on doing gigs for the time being. Tomi Joutsen is very busy touring with AMORPHIS for the next months so we'll concentrate on finishing the music for our planned second album. A few of us are also involved in a new band and will release a record before summer. More details of this band later on, or possibly not.

"We've received messages where people have expressed their concern regarding the future of SINISTHRA so here's the official statement, officially stated by the officials themselves: No need to worry. We've always been slow movers when it comes to putting together new music and although 50% of us are now committed to other bands as well it doesn't diminish our commitment to SINISTHRA in the slightest. There will be another SINISTHRA album, eventually, no matter what."

SINISTHRA's full-length debut, "Last of the Stories of Long Past Glories", was released in May 2005 via Arise Records. The CD was recorded in the summer of 2004 at Sonic Pump studios and features a sound best described as "metal with all the most common metal clichés removed," according to the group's official web site. A "teaser" MP3 containing audio samples from the CD can be downloaded at this location.

The four original members of SLAYER — Tom Araya/bass, vocals, Kerry King/guitars, Jeff Hanneman/guitars, and Dave Lombardo/drums — the pioneers and undisputed kings of extreme speed/thrash metal, have entered a Los Angeles-area studio to record what will be their first new studio album since 1990's "Seasons In The Abyss". And if that's not enough, uber-producer Rick Rubin, who helped solidify the much-emulated SLAYER sound beginning with their genre-defining 1986 classic "Reign In Blood", has taken the helm as executive producer of the project. The original team is back in place.

Working closely with Rubin will be Josh Abraham (KORN, VELVET REVOLVER, ATREYU) who will produce the album. "We're real happy to have Josh on the team," said SLAYER's Jeff Hanneman. "He's a very creative and intuitive guy, he knows music, and he really gets who SLAYER is and what we're doing." The as-yet-untitled album will be released on SLAYER's longtime label, Rubin's American Recordings/Warner Bros. Records, and is expected out this fall.

"Dave's been back with us, playing live, for a couple of years now, and we're all looking forward to recording together again," said the band's Tom Araya. Kerry King added, "There really is no one like Dave — he doesn't have to work at what he does, he just walks in, picks up his sticks and goes."

Said Lombardo, "It feels really good being back with the same guys I started out with. The chemistry is definitely there, that's the exciting part of it, to capture that chemistry again. And that's what is happening."

Jeff, Tom and Kerry have been writing songs for this new album since they wrapped their last North American tour in September 2004. "This is probably the most prepared we've been to record an album since the '80s," King added. "We've been writing and cutting demos for months." While these may change, working titles for some of the songs that will be recorded include "Catalyst", "Cult", "Supremist", and "Consfearacy". "I like to write songs that have different meanings for different people," said King, "where everyone can say, 'I know what he means,' but still get their own sense of what the song is about."

But wait, this just gets better. On 6.6.06 in San Diego, CA, SLAYER will kick off a seven-week summer trek, "The Unholy Alliance Tour Preaching to the Perverted", that boasts what has got to be the genre's coolest line-up of the summer — LAMB OF GOD, MASTODON and CHILDREN OF BODOM (who will rotate the second and third slots), and THINE EYES BLEED who will open the shows.

Not only is the line-up terrific, but ticket prices will not exceed $39.00, giving fans a great value for their dollar. Tour dates and all other details will be announced shortly. Confirmed dates are below.

According to SLAYER's longtime manager Rick Sales, "We want to make 'The Unholy Alliance' tour an annual global event, so we decided to be smart about the design from the beginning. We chose to book most of the tour¹s shows at indoor venues, as that allows the bands and the fans amenities like air conditioning and indoor bathrooms, as well as the very best stage lighting, production, and sound and less expensive concession prices. The few shows that will be played outside will be played at night in permanent facilities with our lighting, production, and so on. Everyone wins."

TWIN METHOD To Film Video With Director MATT ZANE

U.K. metal act TWIN METHOD will be shooting a video in support of their upcoming album, "The Volume Of Self", in Los Angeles this week with directors Matt "The Lord" Zane and Danny Rowe. The video will be for the song "The Abrasive". The clip is expected to be finished before the summer and ready for national and regional video outlets just prior to the album release.

Matt "The Lord" Zane has directed the DECEMBER WOLVES video which was named the sickest video in history by Kerrang! magazine, along with a video for the band PIMPADELIC for Tommy Boy Records. Zane is also known for winning the title of "Best Adult Film Director" in 1999.

Zane says, "I am looking forward to getting back into the directors chair. It has been awhile, but TWIN METHOD approached me and had a great idea that they want to get across. I am looking forward to making it happen with my most technically advanced video to date. Besides, it's about time I start flexing my directing muscles again."

TWIN METHOD, based out of Liverpool, England, recently finished recording at Audio Lab Studio in Los Angeles with producer/engineer Logan Mader (MACHINE HEAD, SOULFLY) for their soon to be released Crash Music debut album, "The Volume of Self".
