NAPALM DEATH Guitarist MITCH HARRIS' MENACE: Entire 'Impact Velocity' Debut Album Available For Streaming
 "Impact Velocity", the debut album from MENACE, the brainchild of NAPALM DEATH axeman Mitch Harris, can be streamed in its entirety using the eidget below. The CD will hit the stores on March 14 in Europe or March 18 in North America via Season Of Mist. It features contributions from Derek Roddy (drums), Fred Leclercq (bass), Nicola Manzan (violin, cello, viola), Shane Embury (bass), and Russ Russell (producer and navigator of paradoxology).
MENACE is a project for those who dare to be challenged. It is a journey across genres; neither claiming nor conforming to any particular known style, and a result of all musical history and culture.
Mitch comments: "The band is called MENACE, but to me, it is more than just a band or a solo project. It is the result of my life's work. It's a concept that has been in production for some time with most of the songs and intense work done in the last two years.
"The initial idea for MENACE began with a plan to work with Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY) and drummer Brann Dailor (MASTODON). Although Brann recorded two songs initially, his responsibilities with MASTODON didn't allow time for such an intricate collaboration. In fact, we all became incredibly busy and as a result, new directives evolved, and to achieve my goal for MENACE I needed to see the album through myself.
"To me, MENACE is the old meeting the new; heavy and melodic, descriptive and adventurous, epic and futuristic, carnal and primitive, and so on. MENACE brings unrealized dreams closer to fruition. It is about overcoming loss and hardship, and a combination of many interests, including spiritual philosophy, psychology, science, physics, theatrics, the supernatural, the paranormal, film, poetry, photography, art, sculpture and video; the things I've focused all my energy on over the last twenty years. It's an organic meets technological approach to exploration and self discovery through a direction I term audio-installationism (A.I.)."
Harris concludes, "Those familiar with my previous work will be in for a surprise and should expect the unexpected, but I'm a firm believer that even the most improbable dreams should be explored. MENACE is a statement in itself, a way of saying that there is always a way forward, no matter how difficult it seems. If you are still alive, then there is still something to achieve."

GUS G.: 'I Am The Fire' Video Released
 "I Am The Fire", the new video from guitar virtuoso Gus G. — well known in rock and metal circles for his work as Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist and as leader of his own band FIREWIND — can be seen below. The song, which features a guest appearance by the American hard rock band DEVOUR THE DAY, is the title track of Gus G.'s debut solo album, "I Am The Fire", which will be released on March 18 in North America via Century Media Records.

The video for the album's opening track, "My Will Be Done" (featuring Mats Levén), was produced by Patric Ullaeus of Revolver Film Company, who has previously worked with DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL, IN FLAMES, SONIC SYNDICATE and KAMELOT, among others.
Gus handles all guitar, bass and keyboards on "I Am The Fire", and is joined by a roster of friends and guests that help bring his vision to fruition: drummers Jeff Friedl (A PERFECT CIRCLE, PUSCIFER, DEVO) and Daniel Erlandsson (ARCH ENEMY), bassists David Ellefson (MEGADETH), Billy Sheehan (MR. BIG, DAVID LEE ROTH) and Marty O'Brien (TOMMY LEE, WE ARE THE FALLEN, LITA FORD), and vocalists Mats Levén (CANDLEMASS, ex-YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, THERION), Blake Allison (DEVOUR THE DAY), Michael Starr (STEEL PANTHER), Alexia Rodriguez (EYES SET TO KILL), Tom S. Englund (EVERGREY), Jacob Bunton (ADLER) and Jeff Scott Soto (TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA, TALISMAN, ex-JOURNEY, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN). "I Am The Fire" was mixed by Jay Ruston (ANTHRAX, STONE SOUR, STEEL PANTHER) and was recorded between Los Angeles and Gus' home country of Greece through the latter half of 2013. A few of the album's tracks include "Eyes Wide Open", "Redemption", "End Of The Line" and "Blame It On Me". The album showcases a well-balanced mix of active rock, classic hard rock, traditional metal and guitar-driven instrumentals, taking listeners on a diverse journey and opening doors to Gus G.'s soulful playing.
Gus G. has had an amazing rise within the worldwide rock and metal scenes and has amassed an impressive body of work, both in studio and touring. He emerged as an up-and-coming talent with the groups DREAM EVIL (Sweden), MYSTIC PROPHECY (Germany) and NIGHTRAGE (Greece), but it is his work with his own band FIREWIND (who have released seven studio albums and two live releases) and as a member of Ozzy Osbourne's band that have helped him emerge as one of the world's top metal and rock guitarists. His work on Ozzy's "Scream" album led to a Grammy nomination in 2010, and his list of accolades includes Guitar Player magazine's "Best Metal Guitarist," the "Dimebag Darrell Shredder" award at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, and Metal Hammer Greece "Best Guitarist" on four separate occasions.

LYNCH MOB last month finished rocking the West Coast, delivering classic favorites and tracks from the latest record while introducing a new vocalist for the George Lynch-led band.
The current iteration of LYNCH MOB is an unusual combination of rock backgrounds. Bassist Kevin Baldes is an original member of the Orange County alternative rock band LIT. LIT's platinum album "A Place In The Sun" spawned three Top Ten hits, including "My Own Worst Enemy". He’s also played with SUGARCULT, MEST and GOOD MAN DOWN. Jimmy D'Anda is on drums. With L.A.-based rock band BULLETBOYS and its hit "Smooth Up In Ya", he earned a gold album and toured the world with rock's biggest acts. Being introduced on this tour was new vocalist Keith St. John (MONTROSE, BURNING RAIN). St. John was the last-minute replacement for Thadeus "Tad" Gonzalez (ELECTRIC SISTER), whose absence from the trek was not explained by the group.
For twelve years with DOKKEN, George Lynch was able to develop a groundbreaking brand of guitar virtuoso that would also earn a Grammy nomination. In the early 1990s, Lynch launched his own project, LYNCH MOB, which harnessed the talent of rock's best players and released several well-received records, from 1990's "Wicked Sensation" to the most recent "Unplugged". Tracks like "Wicked Sensation", "River Of Love" and "Tangled In The Web" have solidified George Lynch's position on Guitar World's list of Greatest Guitarists Of All Time. Live, LYNCH MOB is described as desert-infused blues-based rock with a penchant for extended improvising, harkening back to the glorious jam days of the late '60s and early '70s.
Lynch's current work also includes the film "Shadow Nation", which explores a hybrid way of life, merging modern society with the ancient practices of people who have lived in harmony with the land for thousands of years; native American Indians. The film reveals its message through the journey of a group of renowned musical artists as they share their rock music on a road trip through Indian reservations of the Southwest. | 0 | |

DEEP PURPLE: First Trailer For Deluxe Edition Of Seminal Live Album 'Made In Japan'
 Universal Music has announced the deluxe release of DEEP PURPLE's seminal live album "Made In Japan" in multiple formats on May 19.
The first in a series of trailers promoting the upcoming release can be seen below.
Together with LED ZEPPELIN and BLACK SABBATH, DEEP PURPLE has been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal" in the early to mid-Seventies. One of the most influential and important guitar bands in history, they have sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
"Made In Japan" was recorded live over three nights during August 15–17, 1972 at Festival Hall, Osaka and Budokan, Tokyo. Four of the tracks come from the band's 1972 "Machine Head" album. It featured what many consider the classic DEEP PURPLE lineup — Ian Gillan (vocals), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Roger Glover (bass), Jon Lord (organ) and Ian Paice (drums). Originally recorded only for the Japanese market, the album has since become seen as one of DEEP PURPLE's seminal albums, and one of the greatest live albums of all time (A Rolling Stone magazine readers poll in 2012 voted "Made In Japan" as the sixth greatest live album of all time).
May 19, 2014 will see the album newly remastered and released in a number of special formats. The format options include previously unseen footage on DVD, bonus material and mixes, memorabilia and a hardback book.

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich last year told writer Peter Makowski that he is working on getting his all-time favorite band, DEEP PURPLE, a long-overdue spot in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Asked why the creators of "Smoke On The Water" were not in there yet, Ulrich said, "What you've got to understand is that a lot of the people that have run the selection process are critics, and DEEP PURPLE, as you know, were never a critic's band — especially in America, because their influence was probably felt more in Europe." But Ulrich added, "It's only a matter of time. Rather sooner than later. We've already lost one member. The fact that LED ZEPPELIN and BLACK SABBATH are in and PURPLE is not is one of the crimes of that whole institution. We'll get them in soon enough. I'm working on it."
Founding PURPLE keyboardist Jon Lord passed away in July 2012. Ulrich, who wrote a tribute to Lord on METALLICA's web site, told Makowski, "I'm not sure that the people in today's hard rock world really truly understand how innovative this guy was . . . he really did something nobody had done before with the sound of the keyboards and I think that's probably the biggest thing to remember him for."
At their own induction in 2009, METALLICA's James Hetfield included PURPLE on a list of acts they wanted to see in the Hall. "We're somewhat of a heavy band and we have a small list that we'd like to also put some nods out and maybe plant a little seed, it's a band called DEEP PURPLE, THIN LIZZY, RUSH, KISS, TED NUGENT, IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, MOTÖRHEAD... who we would love to invite through the door now."
DEEP PURPLE was denied entry to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2013 — losing out to such artists as American pop singer-songwriter Randy Newman and R&B singer Donna Summer.
The members of PURPLE, who released a new album titled "Now What?!" on April 30, 2013 in North America via earMUSIC, say it is no big loss.
"I fought against, all my life, becoming institutionalized. So it really does not affect me," singer Ian Gillan told Noisecreep. "But on the other hand, my family and friends and everyone that has stuck with us all these years, it means something to them. They love that recognition.
"To analyze it, and I'll try not to sound cocky or anything, I will say it as respectfully as I can, it's sort of like the Oscars and Grammys and the other awards like that — in the States, just like it is in England, and other places — these awards and honors are usually not decided by the fans, but by a cartel of influential people. These are the same people that decided THE MONKEES were America's answer to THE BEATLES. [laughs]
"So I'm not too concerned about it. Maybe it will happen one day, bit if not, my diary is full and I'm very happy. It hasn't affected our career but it does concern the fans — that's who I feel for." | 0 | |

NOCTEM: 'Eidolon' Video Released

KYNG: 'Burn The Serum' Cover Artwork Unveiled
 Southern California rock trio KYNG will release its new studio album, "Burn The Serum", on April 15 via Razor & Tie. The CD was produced by Andrew Alekel (FOO FIGHTERS, NO DOUBT, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, CLUTCH) and James A. Rota and was recorded at Grandmaster Recorders Ltd. and Sword & Shield in Hollywood, California as well as at Studio 606 in Northridge, California.

On its second full-length album and first for Razor & Tie, KYNG harks back to the essence of heavy rock 'n' roll, forging thunderous percussion to lightning hot riffs driven by a divine vocal howl. At the same time, they keep their eyes wide open towards the future. KYNG find grandiosity in simplicity. The Los Angeles outfit may only boast three members — Eddie Veliz (vocals/guitar), Pepe Clarke (drums) and Tony Castaneda (bass/backup vocals) — but their collective roar could easily tip the Southern California Richter scale.
Formed in 2008, KYNG broke out of the City of Angels in 2011 with the group's independent debut, "Trampled Sun". EMINENCE: 'The Stalker' Performance Clip Featuring SEPULTURA's PAULO XISTO PINTO JR.
 A performance video of the song "The Stalker" from Brazilian metallers EMINENCE can be seen below. The clip was filmed on November 23, 2013 at Espaço 104 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil and features a guest appearance by SEPULTURA bassist Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr..
"The Stalker" is the title track from EMINENCE's fourth full-length album, "The Stalker", which came out last year. The cover artwork for the CD was created by Viktor Koen. The effort was produced by Tue Madsen (DARK TRANQUILITY, HEAVEN SHALL BURN).
"[Tue] is a great producer and a good friend of the band," EMINENCE guitarist Alan Wallace told Revolver magazine. "We spent an entire year producing this album, and worked really hard together to make 'The Stalker' become a reality."

Britain's DOOMED FROM DAY ONE Premier 'Dread' Video
 UK based tech-death metallers DOOMED FROM DAY ONE have revealed the video for their new single, 'Dread', taken from the Nine Fingers EP, out now via Ghost Music.
‘Dread’ is a snarling brute of a track that sees the band combining elements of thrash, progressive metal, deathcore and tech metal to devastating effect. Front man Sean Scott’s vocals expertly punctuate the watertight rhythm section of drummer Daniel Ristic and bassist Eifion Sweet, with guitarists Charlie Griffiths and Charlie Frederick trading slashing riffs with one another across complex time signatures and beatdowns.
Since 2009, constant touring from their basecamp in Surrey, UK has seen this Guildford quintet build a legion of fans off the back of their intense live shows. Support slots alongside heavyweights including THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, SYLOSIS, BLEED FROM WITHIN, THY ART IS MURDER, RED SEAS FIRE and FATHOMS shows just what pedigree the band have already managed to attain in their infancy.

ENEMY OF REALITY Recording New Album
 ENEMY OF REALITY, a symphonic metal from Athens, Greece, is set to release their new record this spring. Lyric soprano Iliana Tsakiraki, guitarist Steelianos, keyboardist Marianthi, bassist Thanos, and drummer Philip Stone each bring something unique to this all-star lineup.
Iliana, the voice behind MEDEN AGAN, released a studio album (Erevos Aenaon) and EP (Nemesis) with the groundbreaking group before she set her sights on new horizons. EUROPE Joined By ARCH ENEMY's MICHAEL AMOTT For 'Wings Of Tomorrow' Performance (Video)
 Swedish hard rockers EUROPE performed their 1984 album, "Wings Of Tomorrow", live in its entirety last night (Monday, March 3) at the opening show of their Swedish tour in Stockholm.
Says EUROPE singer Joey Tempest: "WOW!
"We did not expect that reaction!
"A Monday in Stockholm. We thought perhaps the band would be more drunk than the crowd. It turned out to be a great vibe and a great evening.
"Playing our hometown is always a bit special and we were a bit on edge. First gig on the tour, and we hadn't played the songs from 'Wings Of Tomorrow' in many, many years!
"[John] Norum [guitar] has recently switched back to his Fender Strat! And this was all very exciting. Afterwards, he said it felt a bit strange since he's so used to his Les Pauls, but he loves the sound of the Strat and wants to use it more, perhaps on the next EUROPE record as well. We in the band love it. He really knows how to play that thing; he looks great playing it and it has a great sound!
"We recorded 'Wings Of Tomorrow' just a few blocks away from were we played last night, at the legendary Polar Studios. We were around 19-20 years old when the engineer Leif Mases treated us to listening to one-inch tapes of LED ZEPPELIN and SCORPIONS who had been recording there earlier. We couldn't believe that we finally were in a 'real' recording studio, at the same time we felt we had something special going on.
"'Wings Of Tomorrow' became very important for the band. CBS Records in New York heard it and wanted to sign a massive contract with us.
"'Wings' gave us wings! We started to get recognized internationally. But most importantly, the fans loved the album and it also inspired other musicians and rock bands. That is the best feeling.
"Last night, Mike Amott joined us as a guest on the song 'Wings Of Tomorrow'. His band ARCH ENEMY has recorded both 'Wings Of Tomorrow' and 'Scream Of Anger'. He is a friend of the band and grew up listening to EUROPE's music. It was an honour and so much fun to have him with us on stage!
"Afterwards, we were so relieved. So many things could have gone wrong but lady luck was on our side.
"Three more gigs in Sweden and then we start touring the rest of the world again.
"The idea is to record our tenth studio album this fall.
We have some plans for the U.S. the next coming years and we are really looking forward to that.
"As always…...All this is because of YOU! You keep supporting us and lifting us up. The word is truly spreading about EUROPE."

ASKING ALEXANDRIA Guitarist And Co-Manager Launch KBB RECORDS
 ASKING ALEXANDRIA guitarist Ben Bruce and co-manager Kyle Borman have announced the launch of KBB Records and the signing of the label's first act, SCARE DON'T FEAR.
"After years of planning, touring, writing and learning, and after ups and downs, arguments and agreements, I have grown to not only love the music industry, but understand it and respect it," says Bruce. "KBB Records is a label run by artists, for artists. With my love and passion for music along with my knowledge and understanding of the music industry it's our goal to work alongside incredible artists of all genres and to create and release amazing music for the world to fall in love with."
The first band signed to the new label is SCARE DON'T FEAR, a Providence, Rhode Island-based fusion of hip-hop and metal.

THE DRIP Signs With RELAPSE RECORDS
 Relapse Records has announced the signing of the blistering grindcore quartet THE DRIP. The band's new EP, "A Presentation Of Gruesome Poetics", will be released in North America on April 15 preceded by its April 11 release in Germany and Benelux and April 14 release in the rest of the world. The EP will see release on CD, digital and LP delivery, the first press of the vinyl to bear a totally sick etching on the B-side. A relentless, skull-crushing, pissed off, high-energy, blast-riddled explosion of violence, the EP rips through six tracks in barely twelve minutes, the first release to be fully recorded at Audiosiege in Portland by Joel Grind (TOXIC HOLOCAUST), after which it was mastered by Brad Boatright (TRAGEDY, FROM ASHES RISE, INTEGRITY). Based out of Washington state, THE DRIP unloads a belittling, ravenous style of high-potency grind, having taken cues from the forefathers of the genre like NAPALM DEATH and BRUTAL TRUTH yet contemporizing their approach to put them on par with NASUM, ROTTEN SOUND, INSECT WARFARE and the like. Former OVERKILL Drummer SID FALCK Returns With INFECTUS 13
 INFECTUS 13 is a recording project and the brainchild of former OVERKILL and BATTLEZONE drummer Sid Falck.
After years of answering "maybe some day" when asked if he ever intended to play again, due to health concerns, "maybe someday" has become "now or possibly never."
According to a press release, the vision for the INFECTUS 13 project is to create music that is a continuation of where Sid left off after exiting OVERKILL in 1992, but with "all the new influences and inspirations of the years since then. However it may turn out, It will be aggressive ... It WILL be hard hitting!! All the while trying to maintain the ideals and the integrity that guided the music in those days. It will not be a recording of 'Sid with friends'... and it will NOT be 'OVERKILL v. 2. The idea is to have a lineup of musicians with whom Sid would have loved to jam and write with had they been known to him 'back in the day,' each musician bringing their individual talents and inspirations to the table, and, hopefully, collectively creating something that will truly excite everyone."
When asked whom he envisioned being in the lineup, Sid said: "You know, there are so many unbelievable musicians out there whom I would just absolutely give my right arm to get a chance to jam and write with.
"I have approached a few people with the basic idea of this project and their possible involvement, and I have gotten a somewhat surprising and unbelievably positive response from them.
"I am trying to really keep things under wraps for at least a little while longer, not to try and create some kind of dramatic anticipation — I'm not famous enough for that — but simply to try and make sure everything is going to pan out, because if it's not... It's one thing if I fall on my ass, I don't want to take anyone else with me. I can say that these people are musicians I have had no musical interaction with in the past.
"It would be really easy to just try and hook up with people from my past with a somewhat proven track record, write a couple of tunes, and release them and call it OVERKILL 2 or something. But that would kind of defeat the purpose of this whole thing. These will be people I admire for various reasons, and given my current health issues, this project is extremely important and special to me, so... if I offend some of the people that have appreciated my past work by not inviting the musicians of their choice, I'm very sorry.
"I am definitely not trying to sound arrogant, but this project is, for me, to kind of help me close the musical chapter of my life the way I feel it should be."

THE SKULL Joined By Former TROUBLE Bassist-Turned-Guitarist CHUCK ROBINSON
 THE SKULL, the new band featuring original members of American doom metal legends TROUBLE — Eric Wagner (vocals) and Jeff "Oly" Olson (drums) — alongside longtime TROUBLE bassist Ron Holzner and SACRED DAWN guitarist Lothar Keller, has recruited former TROUBLE bassist Chuck Robinson as its new guitar player. THE SKULL recently recorded two songs with acclaimed producer/engineer Billy Anderson (MELVINS, NEUROSIS) which will see the light of day this spring. "Sometime Yesterday Mourning" is a doomy metal song written by Keller, Holzner and Wagner that showcases the genre pioneers' distinct style while "The Last Judgement" is a "revisiting" of the classic TROUBLE song of the same name that originally appeared on the classic 1983 "Metal Massacre IV" compilation album. "I think 'Sometime Yesterday Mourning' is the perfect song for THE SKULL to lead with and there's a reason why it was the first song we completed as a band," commented Wagner. ARCH ENEMY To Release 'War Eternal' In June
 Swedish/German/American extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY have started mixing their ninth studio album, "War Eternal", with Jens Bogren (OPETH, PARADISE LOST, KREATOR) at Fascination Street in Örebro, Sweden for a June release via Century Media REcords.
Comments ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott: "We've been producing ourselves, as we did on [2011's] 'Khaos Legions'.
"We have a clear vision of what we want ARCH ENEMY to sound like, and we can actually achieve it without the help of outside producers. We also have the advantage of having two talented sound engineers among our ranks in Daniel Erlandsson (drums) and Nick Cordle (guitar).
"We've been tracking at a few different studios here in Sweden — the drums at Fascination Street Studio and guitars and bass in another room. We just finished vocals in a third studio with engineer Staffan Karlsson ('Khaos Legions') and the mix and mastering will done by Jens Bogren at his Fascination Street mixing facility.
"Musically, this album is going a few places we haven't visited before. As our fans have come expect, our albums have all had their own vibe and 'War Eternal' will leave its own mark. Lyrically, it's a much more personal record, and I feel the songs have more dynamics and depth than ever before. The songs are loaded with strong and vicious metal, drenched in tons of melody and emotion. All the trademarks of ARCH ENEMY are present, just more in your face and turned up to 11.".
Regarding the new CD title, Michael says: "A lot of times life is a struggle, a war against what I like to call 'mental chains' in society that try to prevent you from living life the way you want, that try to stop you from making your dreams come true. I have always resented that and I always will. The title sums up our collective attitude a band as well; stages will be destroyed, eardrums will bleed. There will be no choice. This, ladies and gentlemen, is 'War Eternal'..."
ARCH ENEMY will debut new material on a short eastern European tour before the album is released; this trek will then be followed by an extensive run of European summer festivals, including Sweden Rock Festival, Wacken Open Air and many more. A full headlining tour in North America and Europe will take place in fall/winter 2014.
"Khaos Legions" sold around 6,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 78.

DEFTONES Begins Writing New Material
 DEFTONES singer Chino Moreno has confirmed that the band has begun working on music for its eighth studio album. He told Soundwave TV last week: "I haven't personally started [writing new songs], but the other guys started last week, actually. So I'm excited to hear what they've done so far. I'm gonna check in with them next week."
He continued: "When we make records, we don't plan on what kind of record we're gonna make; we never have. It's, like, we react to each other; one guy starts playing something and then the other guy reacts to it and the other guys reacts to it, and then, next thing we know, we have a song. I always think that's the best, organic way to write music, because you're not actually thinking about… Like, we don't have a gameplan as far as what kind of record or what it's supposed to sound like. As long as it's good, as long as we're happy and feeling it, what we're doing, it's worked for us over the years."
Moreno himself just moved to Oregon, while drummer Abe Cunningham and keyboardist Frank Delgado remain in the band's hometown of Sacramento. Guitarist Stephen Carpenter lives in Los Angeles and bassist Sergio Vega is based in New York City.
DEFTONES spent much of 2013 on the road behind their seventh album, "Koi No Yokan", which debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard album chart in November 2012 and yielded the Top Two rock radio single "Tempest".

IRON MAIDEN's TROOPER Beer Sells 3.5 Million Pints
 According to The Publican's Morning Advertiser, IRON MAIDEN's Trooper beer has sold 3.5 million pints since its launch in May 2013 without its brewer, Robinsons, spending a penny on marketing.
As U.K. beer in general struggled to raise the bar, with sales dropping by nearly 5 percent last year, worldwide demand for Trooper ale has both stunned and delighted Robinsons.
Robinsons director of marketing David Bremner explains why he thinks Trooper is succeeding where others miss the mark: "Distinctiveness and authenticity is really important for us. If you look at the British beer market generally, it can be quite homogenous; although things are starting to change. Trooper has more to it than just taste it has its own unique character and personality that fans buy into, and this has been backed up by a complete marketing strategy utilizing tools such as social media to really drive interest around the brand. Trooper not only appeals to fans of IRON MAIDEN, it is appealing to a new group of customers who will try traditional British beer perhaps for the first time. On top of that, rather than appearing gimmicky, we are raising the profile of Robinsons and perhaps all traditional British brewers."
"I don't drink mainstream standard lager," IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson told beer writer Pete Brown last year. "If I was thirsty in a pub with no real ale, I'd rather have a lime and soda. But anyway, we haven’t positioned Trooper as a beer from a metal band — it’s a brand of beer brewed by Robinsons that we’ve developed with them. They've had six generations of brewers there, they've got some highly respected beers, and what they don’t want is a bunch of rock stars coming up and duffing up their reputation, because they’re still going to be there in another two or three generations."
He added: "I'm a big Belgian beer fan as well. I love the Trappist beers — they have such a great tradition over there. Their beers are unique as well, like our real ales. I just hate bland beers. I can't stand Budweiser. They're the Great Satan, and they’re trying to shut down one of my favourite Czech breweries. There’s something I instinctively dislike about Budweiser. I won't have it in the dressing room when we're touring."

EXTREMA Parts Ways With Drummer, Announces Replacement
 After nine years, drummer Paolo Crimi has left veteran Italian metallers EXTREMA and has been replaced by Francesco "Frullo" La Rosa.
Paolo's decision to leave EXTREMA is strictly personal and he remains close friends with his former bandmates. He had expressed a wish to leave the group shortly before the last November/December's European tour due to problems with his goal of becoming a full-time drum teacher.
Francesco made his live debut with EXTREMA on February 7 at the Extenzia Rock Club in the town of Prato.
In other news, EXTREMA has been confirmed for this year's Rock In Idro festival in Bologna, Italy. They will perform on June 1 alongside IRON MAIDEN, ALTER BRIDGE, BLACK STONE and HAWK EYE.
Comments EXTREMA guitarist Tommy Massara: "It's like a dream become reality to finally perform on the same stage as IRON MAIDEN, who we have met a few times over the years but always ended up performing either the day before or the day after; for example, Gods Of Metal 2005 or at the Heineken Festival 2007 where we played on the same day but on a different stage, only this time our amps will be linked with theirs. It's also a true honor to be the only Italian band on that day's lineup."

 "Seven Years Alone", a brand new song from DEVIL YOU KNOW, the creative union of Howard Jones (ex-KILLSWITCH ENGAGE), Francesco Artusato (ALL SHALL PERISH) and John Sankey (DEVOLVED), can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. DEVIL YOU KNOW filmed a video for the song "Seven Years Alone" last month in Los Angeles.
As previously reported, DEVIL YOU KNOW will support BLACK LABEL SOCIETY on this year's Revolver Golden Gods Tour, which will kick off on April 16 in Portland and wrap up on June 7 in Los Angeles. Also appearing on the bill is DOWN.

DEVIL YOU KNOW made its live debut on February 15 at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, California. The group is also taking part in the 2014 edition of Australia's Soundwave Festival.
DEVIL YOU KNOW was born out of Artusato and Sankey's creative quest to stretch beyond their extreme metal backgrounds. The two had written over a dozen songs before even attempting to lock down a singer. "We were unsure if Howard would be interested," said Sankey." Yet, when KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's former frontman received the material, a creative ideal began to solidify.
Finally connecting in Los Angeles during the last months of 2012, a highly distinctive sound began to become apparent. "It turned from bare-bones musical ideas into something that surpassed any of our expectations," said Jones. "It went from something we thought was going to be a fun, heavy project into something very real." It was during a recording session at the start of 2013 with producer and former MACHINE HEAD and SOULFLY guitarist Logan Mader that DEVIL YOU KNOW's ideas began to alchemize into something none of the bands members would ever expect. "It became a departure from what I'm known for," said Artusato. "I wasn't focusing on technical guitar parts (even though I still love that aspect of writing) but simply on writing what felt best for each individual song."
The writing and recording process for DEVIL YOU KNOW's debut album "was surprisingly easy," stated Artusato. "When we get together it just works." The band is also quick to sum up the studio vibe with producer Mader as "intensely creative," said Sankey. "Logan definitely helped us realize and define the DEVIL YOU KNOW sound." Jones agreed: "He went from producer, to unsung member, to friend."
"It's a different style of music for me," said Jones of DEVIL YOU KNOW's unique sound. "It's heavy as anything any of us are known for but I get to do some different things people won't expect. I've been singing almost all my life. Being around good songwriters and musicians in my former bands really helped mold me into who I am now."

Former THE DEVIL'S BLOOD Frontman SELIM LEMOUCHI Dead At 34
 According to the web site of 3VOOR12, a multimedia platform of the Netherlands Public Broadcasting VPRO for alternative pop, Selim Lemouchi, former frontman of the Dutch occult rock act THE DEVIL'S BLOOD, has died at he age of 34. That news was confirmed by Bidi Drongelen, the band's longtime manager and booking agent, as well as Walter Hoeijmakers, Roadburn Festival founder and organizer. No further details are currently available.
THE DEVIL'S BLOOD called it quits in early 2013. The band's final release, "III: Tabula Rasa Or Death And The Seven Pillars", a collection of unfinished demos recorded at Lemouchi's home studio, was made available last June.
THE DEVIL'S BLOOD's latest full-length album, "The Thousandfold Epicentre", was made available in North America on January 17, 2012. The 11-song CD was produced with the help of Pieter Kloos at Void Studios in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
Originally released in Europe in November 2011 through VÁN Records, "The Thousandfold Epicentre" landed on the Dutch album chart at position No. 76.

Japanese Version Of RONNIE JAMES DIO Tribute Album To Include Bonus Tracks By STRYPER, DIO DISCIPLES
 According to HMV.co.jp, "This Is Your Life", the tribute to album to legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio, will be released in Japan on March 26 in Japan with two bonus tracks: STRYPER's rendition of BLACK SABBATH's "Heaven And Hell" and DIO DISCIPLES' take on DIO's "Stand Up And Shout".
Ronnie James Dio is one of the most beloved figures in rock history. His gifts, both as a singer and songwriter, are instantly recognizable, whether he was with RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL, or leading DIO. Sadly, Dio lost his battle with stomach cancer in 2010 but his towering voice and legacy live on.
To celebrate one of rock's most powerful voices, an all-star group of his friends and fans recorded 13 of their favorite tracks for a tribute album, 100% of proceeds from which will go to the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund. Produced by his longtime manager and wife Wendy Dio, the album includes contributions by such metal heavyweights as METALLICA, MOTÖRHEAD, SCORPIONS, ANTHRAX, and Rob Halford, as well as appearances by many of the musicians who performed with Dio over the years.
"This Is Your Life" will be available from Rhino on April 1. A digital version will also be available.

ANTHRAX and ADRENALINE MOB honor Dio's memorable stint with BLACK SABBATH with their takes on "Neon Knights" and "The Mob Rules", respectively, as does a group, led by Oni Logan on vocals along with Jimmy Bain, Rowan Robertson, and Brian Tichy, which performs "I" from "Dehumanizer".
"This Is Your Life" also includes songs from Dio's back-to-back platinum albums "Holy Diver" (1983) and "The Last In Line" (1984), with DORO's take on "Egypt (The Chains Are On)", HALESTORM tackling "Straight Through The Heart", Corey Taylor (STONE SOUR, SLIPKNOT) covering the classic "Rainbow In The Dark" and TENACIOUS D (Jack Black and Kyle Gass) putting their signature spin on "The Last In Line". KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's cover of "Holy Diver", a hit in its own right when released in 2006, is also included here.
Fittingly, Ronnie James Dio provides the finale (and the album's title) with his moving performance of "This Is Your Life". Originally released on "Angry Machines" (1996), the song's lyrics explore mortality and are backed by a stark and beautiful arrangement that features Dio accompanied only by his longtime keyboardist Scott Warren on piano. The song serves as a poignant reminder that we will never hear a voice like Dio's again.
"I'm letting them pick what songs they wanna do in the way they wanna do it," Wendy told Artisan News in 2011.
"We reached out to Wendy Dio about wanting to be a part of the Dio tribute that's getting put together," METALLICA singer James Hetfield told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine. "We're very honored to be a part of that, and to be a part of a celebration of Ronnie's life and his great contribution, man."
In an interview with Guitar International, former ANTHRAX guitarist Rob Caggiano stated that the band's cover version of "Neon Knights" "came out pretty smoking."
The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund, co-founded by Wendy Dio, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable fund dedicated to supporting cancer-prevention research, raising awareness and educating the public about the vital importance of early detection and prevention when dealing with this deadly disease.

The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund is a privately funded 501(c)(3) charity organization which has already raised more than $600,000 in its short history. Monies raised to date have been committed to the cancer research work of the T.J. Martell Foundation for Cancer, AIDS and Leukemia Research and the gastric cancer research unit of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where Ronnie was treated for gastric cancer during the last six months of his life.

WINGER: 'Rat Race' Video Released
 "Rat Race", the new video from WINGER, can be seen below. The clip, which was filmed in Nashville, Tennessee with director Jason Green, alternates between black-and-white performance footage and color montages of life's daily rat race.
"In this day and age, how quick you think, hard you try, no matter how fast you run, someone is always gaining on you," states WINGER frontman Kip Winger. "We wanted to make sure the video visually represented that."
"Rat Race" is the first single from WINGER's new album, "Better Days Comin'", which will be released in North America on April 22 via Frontiers Records. The effort is available for pre-order on Amazon.com in a standard and deluxe configuration. The deluxe edition comes in a glossy digipak and includes the bonus track "Another Beautiful Day" and a DVD including a "Making Of The Album" documentary as well as videos for the first single "Rat Race" and title track, "Better Days Comin'".
WINGER has always been known for its incredible musicianship and the trend continues on "Better Days Comin'".

WINGER formed in the late 1980s and soared to immediate success with its 1988 self-titled release. The album spawned the hit singles "Seventeen" and "Headed For A Heartbreak" and achieved platinum sales status. "Winger" also stayed on The Billboard 200 chart for over 60 weeks where it peaked at #21. Their next album, "In The Heart Of The Young", also achieved platinum status behind the singles "Can't Get Enuff" and "Miles Away". The change in musical climate of the mid-'90s, compounded with unprovoked ridicule on MTV's popular "Beavis And Butt-Head" show, led the band to go on hiatus in 1994. SABATON: Official Video Footage Of Spinning-Class Concert
 On January 25, Swedish metallers SABATON played a special gig at the Må Bättre gym in Falun, Sweden. They performed live during a spinning class, while simultaneously participating in the workout themselves.
Official video footage of this special event can be seen below. "We made special mic holders in order to be able to position them on the spinning cycle," SABATON vocalist Joakim Brodén told the Dala-Demokraten newspaper prior to the performance. "Everyone, apart from our drummer, Hannes [Van Dahl], will [actively participate in] the class."
SABATON will release its new album, "Heroes", on May 16 via Nuclear Blast Records. The cover artwork for the CD was created by Péter Sallai.
"Heroes" wasrecorded at The Abyss, the recording studio in Pärlby outside Ludvika, Sweden owned and operated by record producer and musician Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN).
SABATON played its first show with new drummer Hannes Van Dahl on November 16, 2013 at the Metal Hammer Paradise festival in Germany.
SABATON will return to the U.S. and Canada in April as direct support to American metallers ICED EARTH on their "Worldwide Plagues" North American tour. Opening each show on the six-week trek will be Dutch metallers REVAMP (featuring NIGHTWISH singer Floor Jansen).

AHOLA: 'Tug Of War' Album Teaser
 A six-and-a-half-minute teaser for "Tug Of War", the sophomore album from AHOLA, the new "vital rock act" launched by Jarkko Ahola of the Finnish metal groups TERÄSBETONI and NORTHERN KINGS, is available below. The CD will be released on March 21 via Playground Music.
"Our first recording went well and we raised the bar high then, so there was some work to be done to make 'Tug Of War' even better, but with a good production and good songs we managed to record every rocker's and metalhead's wet dream, and a music lover's must-buy," says Ahola.
AHOLA's debut album, "Stoneface", entered the official chart in Finland at position No. 41. Released on April 25, 2012, the CD was recorded at Headline Studio in Tampere. AHOLA in August 2011 announced the addition of guitarist Antti Karhumaa to the group's ranks.
According to a press release, AHOLA "has a suitable mix of past and present — which is always an essential part of rock music. The band's musical core consists of hit tunes, feeling and of course the skill to write and play true and powerful rock music, wherein the authenticity and emotion are relevant, leaving the vain posing to others."
Commented Ahola: "AHOLA is something I've been working on for a long time.
"From the beginning I've written rock songs in English, but since being a musician, you find yourself doing something you did never expect like singing and playing in a huge act called TERÄSBETONI or participating a cool project called NORTHERN KINGS. I guess that's part of the fascination!
"Anyway, still riff-based rock being the heart of my musical world, I wanted to add some spice to the soup and do something that I wasn't so familiar with: super tightness, speed… a flavor of punk rock, you might say."
He continued, "The way I want to see AHOLA's music is: songs are, I dare say, approachable with catchy choruses but when giving the songs a deeper thought, loaded with layers you can dig into. You can hear echoes from classic rock of the '70s, alternative rock and metal of the '90s and last decade, pop music in general, that punk rock I mentioned and… well, listen to yourselves."

STRYPER's MICHAEL SWEET: 'I'm Not Your Suicide' Single And Video Released
 Michael Sweet, singer, songwriter and guitarist for Christian rockers STRYPER, has released a new single, "I'm Not Your Suicide", from his upcoming solo album of the same. Sweet has partnered up with Childhelp for the release of the track. Michael Sweet and Big3 Records are donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of "I'm Not Your Suicide" to Childhelp. Michael Sweet felt compelled to partner with Childhelp after learning that almost half of all children who have been abused consider suicide. His intention was for the heartfelt lyrics to connect with these kids and hopefully offer some peace to those in need. Bringing added attention to the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline, which offers an immediate 24/7 professional crisis counselor on call, and championing the Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe in schools, Michael Sweet is sharing a message of crisis intervention and prevention education. "I'm Not Your Suicide" is a song with a message of hope, and through the partnership with Childhelp, illustrates to children a positive alternative through the track's lyrics.
Sweet's "I'm Not Your Suicide" album, and his first autobiography, "Honestly: My Life And Stryper Revealed", will be released on May 6 via BIG3 Records.

BLACK STONE CHERRY: 'Magic Mountain' Cover Artwork Unveiled
 Kentucky rockers BLACK STONE CHERRY will release their fourth album, "Magic Mountain", on May 6 (one day earlier internationally) via Roadrunner Records. The cover artwork for the CD can be seen below.
The first single from "Magic Mountain", "Me And Mary Jane", hit radio waves last month to coincide with the band's sold-out series of intimate "fan-curated" U.K. shows.
