EPICA: More 'The Quantum Enigma' Details Revealed
 Dutch female-fronted symphonic metallers EPICA will release their sixth studio album, "The Quantum Enigma", on May 2 in Europe and May 13 in North America through Nuclear Blast.
Where the 2013 "Retrospect" performance reflected on a decade as one of the leading bands in the symphonic metal scene, "The Quantum Enigma" marks the beginning of a new EPICA: modern, heavy, and without compromises.
Says the band: "More than any of our previous albums, this album is a group effort. The only goal we had in mind: creating the album that could lift EPICA up to the next level."
"The Quantum Enigma" was produced by Joost van den Broek at the Sandlane recording facility in the Netherlands. The album was mixed by Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, HATESPHERE).

EPICA will return to the stage on April 30 for a CD-release performance at 013 in Tilburg, The Netherlands.
After taking a break from the road due the pregnancy of lead singer Simone Simons, the release of a new concert DVD, "Retrospect", as well as the writing and recording of the band's upcoming album, the sextet will put on a memorable concert, with plans to perform both old and new songs.
EPICA celebrated its 10th anniversary with a one-night-only event, dubbed "Retrospect", on March 23, 2013 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The band was accompanied by the seventy-piece Reményi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Miskolc National Theatre Choir, playing an unforgettable three-hour best-of set. On November 8, 2013, Nuclear Blast released "Retrospect" as a deluxe hardcover book with 48 pages, both as a 2DVD/3CD and 2Blu-ray/3CD version.
"Retrospect" features this massive performance in its entirety, as well as exclusive interviews with all band members and behind-the-scenes footage from the show.

Former AFTER FOREVER Guitarist SANDER GOMMANS To Release Second HDK Album
 HDK (formerly HATE DEATH KILL), the project launched by Sander Gommans (AFTER FOREVER, TRILLIUM, KISKE/SOMERVILLE), will release its second album, "Serenades Of The Netherworld", later in the year via Revolutionary Records. The follow-up to 2009's "System Overload" was partially recorded and produced by Gommans at the Rock Station, mixed by Joost Van Den Broek and mastered by Jos Driessen. The songs were written by Gommans, Amanda Somerville and Geert Kroes.
States Gommans: "The first HDK album was very heavy and far away from the style I've developed with AFTER FOREVER. This new album combines those styles."
An EPK (Electronic Press Kit) for "Serenades Of The Netherworld" was created by Jan Mueller and can be seen below.

NERGARD Confirm AMARANTHE's Elize Ryd For Next Album
 Norwegian melodic metal outfit NERGARD has announced Elize Ryd of AMARANTHE as the next singer in the lineup for the second album, and final part of the Memorial For A Wish saga.
Nergard discovered Elize when she was touring as backup singer for KAMELOT. She will hit the studio soon to record a duet with Andi Kravljaca of AEON ZEN.
The new Nergard album, which ends the tragic story about the unfortunate man Peter O'Donnell, is scheduled for release in late 2014 and will feature a string of well-known names. So far Nils K. (PAGAN'S MIND) and Tony Mills (ex-TNT, ex-SHY) have been confirmed, as well as the up and coming Ben Rodgers (TELLUS REQUIEM) and Thomas Løseth (TEMPO).

CROSSFAITH: 'The Evolution' Video Released
 The official video for the song "The Evolution" from the Japanese quintet CROSSFAITH — featuring Kenta Koie (vocals), Terufumi Tamano (programming), Kazuki Takemura (guitar), Hiroki Ikegawa (bass) and Tatsuya Amano (drums) — can be seen below. The song is taken from the band's latest album, "Apocalyze", which sold around 1,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD, which was released in the United States and Canada through The End Records on September 3, 2013, was produced by Machine (LAMB OF GOD, EVERY TIME I DIE, FOUR YEAR STRONG), who also helmed the group’s "Zion" EP.
CROSSFAITH combines metal, hardcore, samples and electronica to create groundbreaking music that transcends genres. Their 2009 debut album, "The Artificial Theory For The Dramatic Beauty" (Zestone Records), served as the catalyst in Japan; distinguishing the group as a true force and propelling them to the top of their game.

DEN SAAKALDTE Begin Recording Sophomore Album
 Norwegian Black Metallers DEN SAAKALDTE entered the studio on the February 17th to begin recording their new album. Titled Kapittel II: Faen i Helvete, it will be the band's sophomore full-length album and a follow up to their 2009 debut, All Hail Pessimism.
Commenting on what the fans can expect from the new album, the band said that the material was "diverse, sick, (c)old and grim". Kapittel II: Faen i Helvete will be released on Agonia Records later this year.
Also, in February a double LP gatefold edition of All Hail Pessimism is set to appear on Agonia Records in a limited edition of 250 copies. The first 50 copies will be pressed in deep purple vinyl, with the remaining 200 copies in black.
The band also recently went "old school" with two of Den Saakaldte's previous releases appearing on pro-tapes. The 2008 demo, Øl, Mørke og Depresjon, was released in a limited edition of 333 copies on the Italian label Bylec-Tum Productions, and the All Hail Pessimism album was released on the Inferna Profundus label in a limited quantity of 150.
Formed originally as a one man project in 2006 by guitarist Sykelig, Den Saakaldte recently announce the addition of frontman Einar "Eldur" Thorberg (FORTID, MIDNATTSVREDE, CURSE, ex-THULE) to the lineup. Aside from Sykelig on guitars and Eldur on vocals, the lineup also includes Andre Kvebek (PANTHEON I, ex 1349) on guitars, Seidemann (1349, ex-Pantheon I) on bass, and Tybald (Fortid, ETHEREAL FOREST, HEATHEN DEITY) on drums.
Den Saakaldte's next appearance will be at Revolver in Oslo, Norway, on May 31st, when they will be presenting the new album. | 0 | |

TANKARD Upload Studio Video Report From R.I.B. Album Recordings; Release Date Confirmed
 Iconic thrash metal band TANKARD recently entered Studio 23 in Frankfurt, Germany to start recording their new album, entitled R.I.B., with producer Michael Mainx (BÖHSE ONKELZ, DER W, D.A.D, DISBELIEF), who also produced their last album. R.I.B. is set to be released on June 20th via Nuclear Blast.
Tankard have posted their first studio report detailing the making of R.I.B. Manager Buffo and drummer Olaf explain the recording progress and reveal some new album details below:
Michael Mainx recently commented: "Three time’s the charm – I‘m totally looking forward to have my hands on the controllers for Tankard for the third time in year 2 after the band anniversary! This is gonna be interesting..."
Band leader Gerre added: “We can hardly wait to be nailing down 10 new songs with Micha and are looking forward to a hopefully productive collaboration!”

BURIAL HORDES - Incendium Album Streaming In Full
 Greek extreme metal outfit BURIAL HORDES released the third full-length effort, Incendium, on February 10th via Hellthrasher Productions. The entire album is now available for streaming below.
The follow-up to 2008's Devotion To Unholy Creed contains 41 minutes of dark blackened death metal layered with an eerie, oppressive atmosphere and it's arguably their most complex work to date, blending the band's previous influences with modern, dissonant songwriting approach.
Cthonos, the group's vocalist, comments: "Incendium album is one more nail upon the cross of mankind. It consists of 8 tracks and combines the black death bestiality with haunted guitar themes. We used for the first time 7 string guitars and 5 string bass for a composite harmonic sound and that helped us to spawn the most dark, extreme and claustrophobic Burial Hordes album so far. Incendium was mixed and mastered at Endarker studio in Sweden and Devo helped us to achieve a very powerful sound with high dynamics. Totally satisfied with his work."
Incendium is the band's first record to feature drummer Nuctemeron (EMBRACE OF THORNS, NECROVOROUS, RESURGENCY). The album's artwork was made by Mark Riddick.

70000 TONS OF METAL: Video Recap From EXTREME METAL TELEVISION
 Extreme Metal Television has posted a video recap of the 2014 edition of "The World's Biggest Heavy Metal Cruise" — 70000 Tons Of Metal — which sailed January 27 to January 31 from Miami, Florida to Costa Maya, Mexico and back. The 11-minute clip, which can be seen below, features interviews with Burton C. Bell and Dino Cazares from FEAR FACTORY; OBITUARY's Donald Tardy; and Steve DiGiorgio of DEATH TO ALL. In addition, metal legends RAVEN stop by to recount a "terrible tale from the road."
40 heavy metal bands and 2,000 fans from all over the world traveled once again to the Caribbean for a five-day and four-night trip of a lifetime. The trip included unrestricted festival access to all live shows on board, metal karaoke until sunrise, the all-star jam, clinics, workshops, our infamous Belly Flop Contest, bars that never close, two full days at sea and the opportunity to mingle side by side with the artists.

MIDNATTSVREDE - Release Digital Mini Album; Festival Appearances Confirmed
 Norwegian black metallers MIDNATTSVREDE are very much back in action with live appearances scheduled, a full-length album in progress and a new six-track digital mini album, "Ripe Fruit on the Gallows Tree", released on the 10th of February via BandCamp. Ripe Fruit On The Gallows Tree includes a guest appearance by Vicotnik (DHG, VED BUENS ENDE, CODE), who performs vocals on Midnattsvrede's cover of the VED BUENS ENDE track 'Carrier Of Wounds', which Vicotnik himself wrote and which appears on VBE's 'Those Who Caress the Pale' and 'Written In Waters. The title track of the mini album is co-written with André Kvebek (DEN SAAKALDTE, PANTHEON I, ex-1349).

Formed in 1994 by Jormundgand (DEN SAAKALDTE, LOVEPLANET, ex-DHG), Midnattsvrede remained active until 1997, when they released a self-titled demo. The band remained in hiatus whilst Jormundgand concentrated on his other projects, but was brought back to life with the release of 2003's Demo. Aside from Jomundgand on drums, today's lineup includes Kaahrl on vocals, Einar Thorberg (FORTID, DEN SAAKALDTE, CURSE, POTENTIAM, ex THULE) on guitars and Ian Slemming (KRAANIUM) on bass. According to the band, work is already well under way on what will be Midnattsvrede's first full-length album, and Ripe Fruit On The Gallows Tree will serve as a hint for what fans can expect.
Midnattsvrede are confirmed to appear at the Hammerslag Vinterblot festival in Tonsberg on February 15th, and at the Inferno Festival in Oslo on April 19th.

Portland's OGRE To Release The Last Neanderthal Via Minotauro Records; 'Nine Princes In Amber' Video Available
 Recharged Italian label Minotauro Records has announced the upcoming release of The Last Neanderthal from Portland, Maine's heavy metal doom rockers OGRE, on February 21st in Europe and March 8th in North America.
The band's fourth full-length release continues Ogre's splendid combination of classic proto-metal (BLACK SABBATH, BUDGIE, DUST), a touch of '70s prog rock (most notably RUSH), and a heaping dose of vintage doom (SAINT VITUS, PENTAGRAM). The Last Neanderthal even includes a cover of 'Soulless Woman' by a different Ogre, a '70s bar band from the Pacific Northwest.

GHOUL To Release Hang Ten 10" Via Tankcrimes; Band To Headline Night One Of Brainsqueeze Fest
 In recognition of that holiest of holy days, Record Store Day, the masked mutants in GHOUL are releasing Hang Ten, a limited edition six-song (mostly) instrumental 10" EP. Featuring guest vocals from Tony Foresta (MUNICIPAL WASTE, IRON REAGAN) as Henchman #1 and the inimitable R.A. MacLean (ex-DEADBOLT) as Kreeg, alongside Digestor, Cremator, Fermentor, Dissector and The Moron Cavern-Shackled Choir, Hang Ten was recorded by Salvador Raya at Earhammer Studios in Oakland, mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound Mastering and sports cover art by Sean Aaberg of Pork Magazine.
Surely an anomaly in Ghoul's catalog, the EP features songs written exclusively in their unique brand of surf metal the quartet has previously only dabbled in. Hang Ten picks up right where Transmission Zero left off, relaying the tale of a Creepsylvania in tatters, and the terrible power struggle that ensues between two vicious motorcycle gangs.
Noted Cambridge University musical anthropologist Dr. Mantle Bannister PhD had this to say about this odd assortment of tenebrous tunes: "Why, it's quite remarkable. I've never heard the like. Is it surf? Not quite. Is it metal? Maybe. Is it jazz? No, that's a stupid question, unfit for a real life noted musical anthropologist such as myself. It's from Creepsylvania, you say? Ghastly country. Absolutely crawling with gypsies. Say, old chap, who let you in to my office?"

Baltimore Rockers SAINTS OF REBELLION To Release New American Dream In March; Title Track Streaming

BLACK STAR RIDERS Working On New Material, Check In With Video Update
 Currently in Nashville, TN working on material for the next BLACK STAR RIDERS album, Ricky Warwick and Damon Johnson have checked in with the following video update:
When it comes to the team behind the soundboard, Black Star Riders decided to change things up this time around. Taking over the production reins will be DEF LEPPARD frontman Joe Elliott. Adding to the dream team will be long time Leppard sound guru Ronan McHugh.
Vocalist Ricky Warwick chimes in on the reason Joe was tapped for this album: “Joe Elliott's passion, enthusiasm for music, as a fan, artist and friend is unquestionable and Ronan McHugh is a phenomenal engineer. Personally having worked with these guys before, it was a no brainer when they said they would like to produce the new BSR album. We are confident that this will be a huge leap forward in the evolution of BSR.”
Joe Elliott adds, “Having worked with Scott on the THIN LIZZY remixes a few years ago and having produced Ricky’s first two solo albums, I’m looking forward to taking our musical journey together even further. Black Star Riders is set to enter the studio in Dublin, Ireland in October to start recording their follow-up release. The new, as yet untitled, album will be released in the spring of 2015 through Nuclear Blast.

HEMOPTYSIS - New Single 'Traitor' Available For Streaming
 Arizona-based extreme trash act HEMOPTYSIS have released the new single, 'Traitor', via their official bandcamp page, here. The track is streaming below.
The song was originally released on the band's debut EP, Who Needs A Shepherd?, in 2008, but the band re-recorded it at Validus Recording Studios in North Hollywood, CA. It was produced, engineered, and mixed by Ryan Greene.
Hemoptysis comments: “We cannot wait to release the new songs we have written. We are currently waiting for studio time to record a 5-song EP of all new material. GRAVEHILL To Release Death Curse In April; Features Guest Appearances By AUTOPSY’s Eric Cutler, Kam Lee
 California death horde GRAVEHILL and Dark Descent Records have announced April 1st as the release date for the band's third full-length, Death Curse, on CD and digital formats with vinyl treatment coming soon.
Death Curse features over 35 minutes of powerful death metal in the old-school vein and includes guest appearances from some of the biggest legends of death metal. Chris Reifert and Eric Cutler of AUTOPSY and Kam Lee (MASSACRE, DEATH and BONE GNAWER) all made contributions to what threatens to be one of 2014's most skin-grating albums. Death Curse features artwork by Christopher Moyen (INCANTATION, BLASPHEMY).
Vocalist Mike Abominator had this to say about Death Curse, "We have some filthy fucking death metal terror here with Death Curse. These are the things of nightmares, the stench that makes you puke. This is what this album will make you do when you hear it. We are going with the raw, putrid and dismal live sound this time, to try and capture the feel of one of our live show performances, of which we feel hasn't been represented with our releases so far. PERENNIAL ISOLATION Upload Debut Album Teaser Trailer

PALE DIVINE - Cemetery Earth Reissue Details Revealed
 Shadow Kingdom Records has announced a special double-CD reissue of PALE DIVINE’s 2007 release, Cemetery Earth, on February 18th. The fully remastered Cemetery Earth album is contained on Disc One, while Disc Two contains Demo 2006, as well as live and rehearsal material.
Shadow Kingdom owner Tim McGrogran had this to say about the reissue: “The third Pale Divine album is probably right where the band envisioned their sound to be when they first started their career. They are the masters at blending 70s psychedelic blues jamming with sinister dark heavy traditional doom metal. There are not too many bands that are able to do what they can do which makes them the big fish in a small pond if you’re into psych/doom. The guitar leads sweep you away, but also gently bring you back to the heart of the song. The addition of John Gaffney (songwriter for SINISTER REALM) on bass added different dimension to this album that helped them grow as a band.”

Calgary’s EVERY HOUR KILLS Streaming New Single ‘Chosen’
 Calgary, AB’s EVERY HOUR KILLS is a new modern melodic metal band featuring ex-DIVINITY guitarist Sacha Laskow, bassist Brent Stutsky (BREACH OF TRUST), drummer Rob Shawcross (ex-OUT OF YOUR MOUTH) along with vocalist Jerrod Maxwell-Lyster (WALK AS CHAOS, Out of Your Mouth, AUTOBODY).
Over the last two years, the band has been busy in the lab working on recording new songs to be unleashed to the masses. Last year saw their first single 'Deliver Us' exposed to the world and set the path for their next knock out force 'Chosen' produced by Joey Sturgis (ASKING ALEXANDRIA, EMMURE, OF MICE & MEN, WE CAN AS ROMANS).
"It was an awesome experience working with an outside producer this time, especially one as talented as Joey. Usually we've done everything ourselves, so it was really interesting getting an outside perspective from someone we respect. We are all beyond stoked with the results; Joey definitely added some of his magic to our vision and took the song up to a higher level. Lyrically the song is basically about rising up in the face of adversity, struggling to make our goals and dreams a reality amidst the chaos of the world and other people trying to drag us down. REFORMERS Sign With Mediaskare Records; 'Belligerence' Lyric Video Streaming
 Mediaskare Records has announced the addition of California’s REFORMERS to its roster of artists. The band’s first Mediaskare release will be their debut full-length album, Abolish, which is set to hit stores and digital retailers on April 29th.
Abolish was self-recorded with additional vocal production from the famed Jeremy Reeves of production group The Stereotypes and mixed by Kyle Black (COMEBACK KID). The album also features guest appearances from members of WINDS OF PLAGUE, IMPENDING DOOM, and THE GREAT COMMISSION.
When asked why they chose to title the album Abolish, the band responded, “We see injustice happen every day, some of us being trapped in a chokehold by it, others being the cause of it. It seems as if our culture has taught us to accept these things as the social/political/spiritual norm, leaving little room for one to questions whether or not things could be different, whether or not they could be free... or whether or not they could change the world. We chose the title Abolish as a battle cry. To abolish is to completely do away with something, to end it completely.”

MIRROR OF DECEPTION Announce Band Lineup Change
 German doom metallers MIRROR OF DECEPTION have decided to part ways with their bassist and drummer in order to fully concentrate on the band again. The two remaining founding members, Jochen and Siffi, are currently searching for replacements to start writing songs for a yet-untitled new album.
A band statement reads: "After a two year hiatus we have come together to discuss the future of our band. Andi (bass) and Josef (drums, vocals) have decided to leave Mirror Of Deception.
We have always seen ourselves as a band which rehearses on a regular basis. Due to job and family obligations it will be no longer possible to meet our own demands with this lineup. They both will continue to be active with MOUNTAIN THRONE and in Josef's case also HOLISTIC HOBOS.
We are proud of all the music we have created together, everything we have experienced and achieved in these 10 years together and we are parting as friends. Siffi (vocals, guitar) and Jochen (guitar) will now search for a new bass player and drummer, work on new songs, return to the stage later this year and continue what we have started back in 1990.” | 0 | |
