BEHEMOTH Performs New Song At Czech Republic's BRUTAL ASSAULT Festival; Video Available

Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH played a brand new song called "Blow Your Trumpet, Gabriel" during their August 10 appearance at this year's edition of the Brutal Assault festival, which was held in Josefov, Czech Republic. You can now watch fan-filmed video footage of the performance below.

"Blow Your Trumpet, Gabriel", which was previously described by BEHEMOTH frontman Adam "Nergal" Darski as "killer" and "a monster," will be included on the band's tenth full-length album, "The Satanist", which has had its release date pushed back to 2014 via Nuclear Blast in Europe and Metal Blade in North America. The CD was recorded at Hertz studio in Bialystok, Poland with the help of the Wieslawscy brothers and Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES, SOILWORK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD). Other songtitles set to appear on the effort include "Messe Noir" (French for "The Black Mass") and "Ora Pro Nobis, Lucifer" (Latin for "Pray For Us, Lucifer").

In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, Darski described BEHEMOTH's new songs as "very atmospheric" and "very emotional." "Think BURZUM meets NEW ORDER meets KILLING JOKE," he added. But at the same time, fans shouldn't expect the album to sound too far removed from BEHEMOTH's past efforts. "Take SLAYER, for example," Darski said. "Whatever genre they deal with, they still end up sounding like SLAYER. Even when they were flirting with nu-metal, it was a SLAYER record. Same with BEHEMOTH."

According to Darski, at least some of the inspiration for the new BEHEMOTH album is coming from his five-month bout of leukemia he overcame in January 2011, after receiving a bone-marrow transplant. "When I was in the hospital, I was collecting experiences and emotions," he said. "I'm pretty sure that it's coming out now. There are moments I catch myself thinking about how my state was back then. It was me versus life, me versus death. It definitely changed my thoughts a lot. It's 100 percent being reflected in the record and songs I'm writing nowadays. I'm way more radical than I used to be."

INTER ARMA Back In The Studio

Richmond, Virginia's INTER ARMA has entered Dark Art Studios in Madison, Tennessee with producer Mikey Allred to record a "massive" track, to be released via Relapse Records.

"There's no title yet, but it's a forty-plus minute piece that was originally written during the summer of 2009 and only played out a few times," states INTER ARMA guitarist Trey Dalton. "We'll have some different people doing guest appearances (noise, synth, strings, vox, and more) as well. We're trying to make the most completely off-the-wall shit yet."

INTER ARMA's second album, "Sky Burial", was released in March via Relapse.

INTER ARMA merges elements of doom, psychedelic sludge, grind, black metal and more through massive, mighty riffs to create a sound wholly their own. Following several solid demos, splits and an LP via Forcefield Records, this volatile act delivered its Relapse debut, an album easily considered an early contender for heavy music record of the year, even making Decibel magazine's "20 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2013" list.

EMPEROR To Headline Next Year's BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR Festival

Norwegian black metallers EMPEROR will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their "In The Nightside Eclipse" album by making a number of festival appearances next year. In addition to performing at Germany's Wacken Open Air, the band will headline the 2014 edition of the the Bloodstock Open Air festival, set to take place next August at Catton Hall, Walton-On-Trent, West Midlands, United Kingdom. EMPEROR members Ihsahn (real name: Vegard Sverre Tveitan) and Samoth (real name: Tomas Haugen) will be joined by Bård Guldvik "Faust" Eithun on drums, and they will perform the CD in its entirety. There will be no new studio album or a worldwide tour — only a few exclusive festival appearances next year to mark the celebration of this landmark release.

The news of EMPEROR's appearance at Wacken Open Air was announced on August 2 at this year's edition of the festival at a press conference which was attended by Ihsahn and Samoth.

EMPEROR released its swansong, "Prometheus - The Discipline Of Fire And Demise", in September 2001. It was an epic and progressive metal album that once and for all marked EMPEROR as one of the most adventurous and gifted black metal bands of all times. In 2005, EMPEROR surprised all with an unannounced appearance at Oslo's famed Inferno festival. Following the performance, the band announced additional concerts that would include a visit to America; marking the second trip to the States in the band's legendary career. Fans flocked to New York City and Los Angeles to witness the sold-out performances. In 2007, additional shows would see the band return to the U.S. for a repeat performance in New York City, a stop in Chicago, and what would be their final American performance in Los Angeles.

In a May 2012 interview with Gun Shy Assassin, Ihsahn stated about the possibility of more EMPEROR live performances in the future: "After 2007, that was really a final chapter for all of us. But there's always some underlying pressure to do something. Usually, I just say plain 'No.' I can understand the nostalgia and all that. If I wanted to be as nostalgic as everyone else, it wouldn't make any sense for me to actually make any new music [with my solo project] ."

He added: "People who are old-time EMPEROR fans still think I'm 17.

"I am in contact with the guys, and we talk almost weekly; they're good friends. What can I say? Never say never. For the moment, I am so occupied with my own project — that's my main priority."

Ihsahn said he left EMPEROR because he wanted different things.

"I ended up doing most of that last EMPEROR record on my own. If we still did EMPEROR, and if it were up to me, what I do now… that's what we would sound like."

But there will be no new music from EMPEROR, Ihsahn said.

"Part of the reason why our albums keep on selling is probably because we were always an uncompromising band, and that is a tradition I would like to uphold. If we did a new EMPEROR album, what kind of EMPEROR album would people like? I say listen to the stuff I do, and the stuff that Samoth does, and you can more or less figure out what a new EMPEROR record would sound like, and that sounds nothing like old EMPEROR. Trying to duplicate something from the past would just turn everything into a parody.

"Would anyone want a black metal album made just for the sake of making a lot of money?" Ihsahn asked. "I get all of these requests to get back with EMPEROR. In the spirit of black metal, I do whatever the hell I want. That's the whole point of black metal. If I even consider letting anyone else try to tell me what I should do with my music, that, by definition, would make it non-black metal… as I have learned it."

ECLIPTYKA: New Album To Be Produced By Ex-SEPULTURA Drummer

Brazilian metallers ECLIPTYKA have entered Family Mob Studios with producer Jean Dolabella (ex-SEPULTURA drummer) to begin recording their second album for a late 2013 release.

ECLIPTYKA's debut CD, "A Tale of Decadence", was released in 2011 in Brazil by Die Hard Records, and in Japan by Radtone Music. The album's lyrics deal with the destruction of our planet by mankind, cruelty against animals, politics and war.

ECLIPTYKA vocalist Helena Martins and guitarist Hélio Valisc recently recorded an acoustic cover version for ALTER BRIDGE's "Blackbird". A video of the cover can be seen below,

SAIGON KICK: New Orlando Concert Footage Posted Online

Fan-filmed video footage of the reunited acclaimed 1990s rock band SAIGON KICK performing last night (Friday, August 9) at The Social in Orlando, Florida can be seen below.

SAIGON KICK parted ways with bassist Tom DeFile earlier in the year. According to Tom, the split happened because of "personalities and other reasons." The remaining members of the band said in a statement: "Tom and SAIGON KICK amicably decided this is best for both parties and we wish him nothing but success in his future endeavors."

Chris McLernon, who was not a part of the original SAIGON KICK lineup, but came aboard as the band's bassist for the "Water" album in 1993 and remained with the group until they unofficially called it quits in 1999, is playing bass on SAIGON KICK's current reunion tour.

Guitarist Jason Bieler, who last year launched a new project called OWL STRETCHING, stated in a 2012 interview about the prospect of a SAIGON KICK reunion, "My only thing about SAIGON KICK is that I wouldn't want it to be a 'will-work-for-food' tour. I hate that, and I expressed to the guys that whatever and if ever we do something, I want to do it at a level that's higher and better than it was. You tend to remember the best things about a band when they're younger, and when you see them when you're older you think 'Oh, man, they suck! Maybe they're still the same band and just never got any better.' I'd want to go out there and capture something, do something great. If we're going to do some shows, I don't want to show up with one flashlight and rip off the fans to make an extra $200. That's not what I'm interested in."

SAIGON KICK is perhaps best remembered for its second album, 1992's "The Lizard", which spawned the band's biggest hit single, "Love Is On The Way". The track reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and its accompanying video was in the top 10 MTV countdown for many weeks. Just before touring for the LP commenced, DeFile was fired and was replaced by ex-COLD SWEAT bassist Chris McLernon. They toured from summer 1992 to spring 1993 and "The Lizard" was eventually certified gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America) for sales in excess of 500,000 copies.

SOCIETY 1 Releases Lyric Video Hybrid For 'Kill Me'

With lyric videos becoming an important aspect of marketing a band's music, every act is releasing some form of lyric video. SOCIETY 1 wanted to capitalize on the new trend as well, but create something a little more unique. "Kill Me" is the first lyric video to blend the lyrics into an actual performance. SOCIETY 1 frontman Matt Zane considers it the first of lyric hybrid videos.

"The video starts out as if the words are just there, but become more and more integrated as the video progresses, as if the words are part of the scene and the performance," said Zane.

The clip was edited and animated by Zane, who is also a video director. He recently finished directing and editing a video for DMC and Wayne Static called "Noise Revolution".

SOCIETY 1's "Screams Of Sadist" EP was produced by Raymond Herrera, with mixing and mastering by Logan Mader.
