MUTATION Album Featuring Members Of THE WILDHEARTS, NAPALM DEATH Due In October
Ipecac has set an October 29 release date for MUTATION's "Error 500", an album willfully devious, devilishly out of line and sonically uninhibited.
Drawing musicians from a ménage of disciplines and repute, MUTATION is a band unlike any other, counting amongst their ranks Shane Embury (NAPALM DEATH), David "Ginger" Walls (THE WILDHEARTS) and Jon Poole (CARDIACS), with guest appearances from Mark E. Smith (THE FALL) and Merzbow. The resulting reaction is an eight-man beast that exists to challenge the listener's preconceived ideas of extreme music, steeped in volatility, and wholly unapologetic.
MUTATION began as a need to hear an album that no one else looked likely to make. An album that wallowed in sheer grindcore brutality whilst allowing it to be lifted by twisted talons of melodic majesty, and, with no loyalty to genre, delves into darker recesses of sonic experimentation. "Error 500" strikes you first by its personnel, and then exponentially more by the music itself, rewarding your attention with a white knuckle ride that travels at blast-beat speed along rails of industrial mayhem, thrilling with break neck twists and hyper rhythmic turns, guaranteed to leave you breathless and baying for more.
Intense and entirely random, this is an album to be loved by fans of all genres of experimental and extreme music, but especially by the type of listener that needs the parameters shifted a little more to the left.
If you're waiting for the next step in the evolution of extreme music, then look no further. | 0

PYREXIA To Release 'Feast Of Iniquity' In October
New York death metallers PYREXIA are back with their most skull-crushing attack since "Sermon Of Mockery". Entitled "Feast Of Iniquity", their new album features ten new tracks of fire-breathing, trend-killing, pure and mighty PYREXIA death metal. The CD will be available October 29 via Unique Leader Records.
According to a press release, "Feast Of Iniquity" "is stacked with two drummers, Dave Culross and Doug Bohn, both assaulting the drums with ferocity and thunder along with biting guitar riffs and slams that can only be described as original and contagious. A threatening audio theater of agony and emotion, 'Feast Of Iniquity' brings PYREXIA to their truest form, and once again shows why they are a tall pillar in today's death metal arena." | 0

KING DIAMOND: Quality Tilburg Fan-Filmed Video Footage
Fan-filmed video footage of KING DIAMOND's August 6 performance at )13 in Tilburg, The Netherlands can be seen below.
KING DIAMOND in December signed a new three-album worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records.
After a six-year touring hiatus, KING DIAMOND triumphantly returned to the stage in 2012 for European festivals Hellfest and Sweden Rock.
King, 56, whose real name is Kim Bendix Petersen, underwent open-heart triple-bypass surgery in November 2010. He has since completed his cardiac rehabilitation program and has stopped smoking entirely, changed his diet and is getting regular exercise.
In a February 2013 interview with Metal Sucks, King Diamond stated: "I had to change my diet and become a nutritional expert, eat much better food. I stopped smoking; haven't had a drag. [My wife] Livia quit, too. We walk at least five days a week.
"I felt the benefits during two shows we did [last year]. My voice is now clearer than when I started singing. It was like always driving a used car and suddenly you have enough money to buy a new car. It felt brand new! That's how my voice feels.
"I breathe different now than I used to. In the past [when we played live], it would been like [makes a gasping noise]. Now I go off stage and start talking to close friends…. I feel like I used to live in a house with ten windows and now I have twenty windows in the house. There's so much I can see and I pay more attention to what I do see.
"My philosophy hasn't changed but I don't take anything for granted."
King Diamond made his long-anticipated return to the stage with his MERCYFUL FATE bandmates Hank Shermann, Timi Hansen and Michael Denner on December 7, 2011 at the second of four intimate shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco as part of METALLICA's week-long celebration of its 30th anniversary as a band for fan club members only.
KING DIAMOND received a Grammy nomination in the "Best Metal Performance" category for the track "Never Ending Hill" off the group's latest album, "Give Me Your Soul … Please".
"Give Me Your Soul ... Please" entered the Swedish national chart at position No. 28. The CD also landed at No. 58 on the Danish chart (the second highest new entry on the chart behind VELVET REVOLVER).
"Give Me Your Soul ... Please" sold 4,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 174 on The Billboard 200 chart.

BEHEMOTH: 'The Satanist' Pushed Back To 2014
"The Satanist", the tenth full-length album from Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH, has had its release date pushed back to 2014 via Nuclear Blast in Europe and Metal Blade in North America. The CD was recorded at Hertz studio in Bialystok, Poland with the help of the Wieslawscy brothers and Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES, SOILWORK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD). Songtitles set to appear on the effort include "Blow Your Trumpet, Gabriel" — described by Darski as "killer" and "a monster"; "Messe Noir" (French for "The Black Mass"); and "Ora Pro Nobis, Lucifer" (Latin for "Pray For Us, Lucifer").
Comments BEHEMOTH guitarist/vocalist Adam "Nergal" Darski: "I'm listening to the new mix of the album... and it's SPECTACULAR. If you can imagine something that beats the shit out of 'Evangelion', this is it!
"We shall take another six months before we put it out... Sorry, but that's what it needs. Be patient. This album will shake the Mount Sinai!"
In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, Darski described BEHEMOTH's new songs as "very atmospheric" and "very emotional." "Think BURZUM meets NEW ORDER meets KILLING JOKE," he added. But at the same time, fans shouldn't expect the album to sound too far removed from BEHEMOTH's past efforts. "Take SLAYER, for example," Darski said. "Whatever genre they deal with, they still end up sounding like SLAYER. Even when they were flirting with nu-metal, it was a SLAYER record. Same with BEHEMOTH."
According to Darski, at least some of the inspiration for the new BEHEMOTH album is coming from his five-month bout of leukemia he overcame in January 2011, after receiving a bone-marrow transplant. "When I was in the hospital, I was collecting experiences and emotions," he said. "I'm pretty sure that it's coming out now. There are moments I catch myself thinking about how my state was back then. It was me versus life, me versus death. It definitely changed my thoughts a lot. It's 100 percent being reflected in the record and songs I'm writing nowadays. I'm way more radical than I used to be."
Regarding the title of the new BEHEMOTH album, Darski said, "It took us over two decades to come up with a title that… says it all.
"While our new songs artistically take surprisingly adventurous directions, our message stands steadfast — proud and radical.
"'The Satanist' stands for undying yearning for liberation and love for freedom in all aspects of life.
"Considering all our life experiences that often took dramatic curves, I couldn't think of more appropriate and fitting statement of who and where we are now."
Drummer Kerim "Krimh" Lechner (ex-DECAPITATED) recently played several shows with BEHEMOTH as the temporary replacement for Zbigniew Robert Prominski (a.k.a. Inferno) who is recovering from appendix surgery.
BEHEMOTH was forced to cancel its appearance at the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival due to Inferno taking ill and requiring surgery.

EDEN'S CURSE: 'Symphony Of Sin' Cover Artwork, Track Listing Revealed
Multinational melodic metallers EDEN'S CURSE will release their fourth studio album, "Symphony Of Sin", on October 4 via AFM Records. Produced by Paul Logue and mixed and mastered by the group's longtime engineer, PINK CREAM 69 and UNISONIC bassist Dennis Ward, the CD is the first EDEN'S CURSE release with new Serbian vocalist Nikola Mijic (ALOGIA, DREYELANDS) and Welsh keyboard wizard and POWER QUEST mainman Steve Williams.
"Symphony Of Sin" track listing:
01. Symphony Of Sin
02. Break The Silence
03. Evil & Divine
04. Unbreakable
05. Fallen From Grace
06. Losing My Faith
07. Rock Bottom
08. Great Unknown
09. Turn The Page
10. Sign Of The Cross
11. Wings To Fly
12. Devil In Disguise
13. Where Is The Love?
The cover artwork was once again created again by Thomas Ewerhard (EDGUY, AVANTASIA, JORN) and marks the return of a familar face in "Eve," who previously graced EDEN'S CURSE's debut album cover.
A single and promotional video for the song "Evil & Divine" will arrive on September 12. The clip was shot on location at the famous St. Andrews in the Square location in Glasgow under the direction of Ryan Priddy and his team at Independent Element.
Hailing from Senta, in the North of Serbia, Nikola is a vastly experienced singer despite his tender years. For the past ten years, he has been fronting Serbian outfit ALOGIA and more recently Hungarian prog rockers DREYELANDS, who released their debut album on Lion Music in 2010. In 2008, he also featured heavily on the prog rock project album "Expedition Delta".
Said Nikola: "I'm really honored to be part of the metal journey of EDEN'S CURSE with their new upcoming album that is coming out on 4th October and I'm looking forward to rock with you guys!"
Added EDEN'S CURSE drummer Pete Newdeck: "For me, when I heard a lot of the auditions, Nik's was the one that stood out. It stood out mainly because of its originality. His voice was strong, it was soulful and he had something different to offer. That's really why I championed him, because I think he could offer something different, change the face of the band and possibly help this band move forward."
Stated EDEN'S CURSE bassist Paul Logue: "When Nik sent his audition of 'Evil & Divine', that's when we really began to sit up and take notice and say that this guy was something special. He is the complete package."
Guitarist Thorsten Koehne enthused: "He's just an amazing talent, one of the most amazing singers I've seen in recent times. He's just so versatile in what he can do and he just fits the band perfect because with EDEN'S CURSE, we're very diverse, as far as the music, so there's not just one particular style that we are doing. So we were really looking for a singer that could keep up with that and have a range in his vocals. Nikola is just perfect because he can do so many things, from blues to metal stuff and everything in between."
Williams, a former member of DRAGONFORCE, commented: "It was a real thrill to be asked by Paul and the boys to get involved in EDEN'S CURSE. I've been a fan for a long time, I've known the guys a while and it's great to be here getting myself right cursed, I can tell you."
Added Logue: "I've known Steve for a while, and when Ale left, he recommended we look at Steve. It was very easy choice for us, as we were already good friends and with POWER QUEST calling it a day, it was a perfect time in both our careers to join forces. Steve is a smashing player and one of life's true gentlemen. He is an utter joy to have on board and I am genuinely excited to see what we can produce together in the years to come as I am a big fan of his songwriting."

Speaking to PledgeMusic, ENTOMBED guitarist Alex Hellid stated: "We've been waiting to reissue these albums for a very long time and, yes, it has definitely been something of a journey to get to this point!
"We started thinking about this project and how to do it about 10 years ago, when our license agreement with then label partner Music For Nations ended, longing for the day we could make sure all our albums would be available again properly.
"In 2007, we actively started to talk to possible partners. It looked like we were going to begin rereleasing stuff in 2008. Never thought it would take this long but was determined to find the right way to do it.
"PledgeMusic was worth the wait and a perfect first step in our quest to reintroduce ENTOMBED to old and new ears exactly like we want to, and tell our story. I'm personally very pleased, to say the least, and glad we waited for some 'new roads' to be built."
Asked if anything surprised him as he went back through the older material, Hellid said: "Yes, I am surprised every day now as I find more and more things I haven't heard or seen in a long time and, in some cases, had forgotten about or didn't even know existed. I've started to rediscover the 'To Ride…' album, for example, and realize how much cool stuff is actually on there, remembering what we went through and what we were thinking at the time. [I am] very much look forward to doing that with that with rest of the albums too and sharing those memories and thoughts."
Threeman Recordings, which is owned and run by members of ENTOMBED, launched a new collaboration with Ninetone Records. The first release under this arrangement was a single for the re-recorded version of the song "Amok" from ENTOMBED's 2007 album, "Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments", produced by Patrik Frisk (CORRODED).
"Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments" was released in the U.S. on July 31, 2007 via Candlelight/Threeman Recordings. The 10-song effort marked the group's first release with drummer Olle Dahlstedt (ALPHA SAFARI, ex-MISERY LOVES CO.), who replaced Peter Stjärnvind in 2006. Mastering duties were handled by Soren Elofsson at Cosmos Mastering in Stockholm, Sweden.
"Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments" entered the Swedish national chart at position No. 3. This was the highest chart position in the band's career.
The current lineup of ENTOMBED features Victor Brandt (TOTALT JÄVLA MÖRKER, AEON, SATYRICON) and second guitarist Nico Elgstrand (who previously played bass for the group).

CANDLEMASS: Pro-Shot Footage Of Entire WACKEN OPEN AIR Performance
Professionally filmed video footage of CANDLEMASS' entire August 3 performance at this year's edition of the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany can be seen below.
CANDLEMASS played its first show with singer Mats Levén on June 5, 2012 at Debaser Slussen in Stockholm, Sweden.
Levén is a former member of YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, THERION and TREAT, who also plays with CANDLEMASS bassist/mainman Leif Edling in KRUX.
Also joining the group for CANDLEMASS' recent live performances was keyboard player Per Wiberg (OPETH, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS).
CANDLEMASS in June 2012 parted ways singer Robert Lowe. The band stated at the time that this was "a very difficult decision" to make and had "mainly to do with the quality of the live performances."
Lowe — who is still a member of SOLITUDE AETERNUS — joined CANDLEMASS in January 2007 and sang on the band's last three studio albums: "King Of The Grey Islands" (2007), "Death Magic Doom" (2009) and "Psalms For The Dead" (2012).
CANDLEMASS released its 11th and final album, "Psalms For The Dead", on June 8, 2012 via Napalm Records. A limited-edition seven-inch vinyl single contaning two album tracks —"Dancing In The Temple Of The Mad Queen Bee" and "The Killing Of The Sun" — preceded the full-length effort on April 13, 2012.

KORN's 'The Paradigm Shift' Pushed Back A Week
According to Korn.com, KORN's much-anticipated 11th studio album, "The Paradigm Shift" (Prospect Park), has had its release date pushed back to October 8 from the previously announced October 1. The follow-up to 2011's "The Path Of Totality" features the return of guitarist Brian "Head" Welch to the lineup after more than eight years away. His last album with the band was 2003's "Take A Look In The Mirror".
"Never Never", the first single from "The Paradigm Shift", will arrive online and at radio stations on August 12 and singer Jonathan Davis shared some insight with The Pulse Of Radio into what it's about. "I mean, it's about relationships," he said. "it's about anything. It seems like you try and try to make things work and you repeatedly fail at it. It's just like, throw your hands up in the air and give up, and it's that kind of vibe. I was feeling that towards life, basically."
Other songs on the new set, which was recorded with producer Don Gilmore (LINKIN PARK, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, LACUNA COIL) at Buck Owens' studio in KORN's original hometown Bakersfield and at Los Angeles's famed NRG Recording Studios, include "Prey For Me", "Love & Meth", "Spike In My Veins", "Mass Hysteria", "Paranoid And Aroused" and "Victimized".
The deluxe version of "The Paradigm Shift" will include a 60-minute documentary on Welch's return to the group and two bonus tracks, "Wish I Wasn't Born Today" and "Tell Me What You Want".

OZZY Says 'Incredibly Overweight' WARD Isn't Physically Capable Of Playing With BLACK SABBATH
BLACK SABBATH singer Ozzy Osbourne has disputed original drummer Bill Ward's claim that Ward was physically capable of taking part in the group's current world tour.
Ward said in a new interview with Guitar International that he sat out SABBATH's current reunion because of a contract dispute and not physical issues, as the other members of the band have suggested. Ward explained, "I was offered a contract, and I couldn't sign it. I would never, ever show up for a commitment that I could not do physically . . . It was one of the toughest decisions that I ever had to make, because I absolutely and without question wanted to play."
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE drummer Brad Wilk played on SABBATH's new album, "13", while Tommy Clufetos is the touring drummer for the group, which plays Tuesday night (August 6) in Detroit, Michigan.
Speaking to the New York Daily News, Ozzy stated about Ward's absence from the SABBATH tour: "I don't think he could have done the gig, to be honest. He's incredibly overweight. A drummer has to be in shape. He's already had two heart attacks. I don't want to be responsible for his life."
Despite this, Ozzy said "the door is always open" to Ward to return and admitted that without him "it's not the same."
Ward said he's open to returning to SABBATH, but on one condition: "I play all or nothing." It's been speculated that SABBATH wanted Ward to play only part of its live shows because he wasn't in shape to perform an entire concert.
Osbourne told The Pulse Of Radio that he couldn't necessarily blame Ward for the way he felt about that. "I mean, if someone said to me, 'You should sing with this guy,' I'd be pissed off, you know," he said. "I mean, it's understandable, the way he feels. I'm not saying he's wrong or right, you know. But we had a mission to do an album, you know, and I mean, I think it would have taken twice as long as it did and that was long enough already, you know."
In an interview with Mojo earlier this year, Ozzy revealed that Ward was not prepared when he came to the band's earliest rehearsals for the reunion.
He explained, "We looked at Bill, and he couldn't remember what the fuck we were doing. He didn't come clean and say, 'I can't cut this gig, but can we work something out, guys, where I'll come on but with another drummer backing me up?' Or, 'I'll come and play a few songs.' That would have been cool."
Ward said that playing for only part of the set "would kind of be aligning to my demise in SABBATH and minimize me. I'm the drummer in SABBATH and quite capable of doing the job."

KISS Taps Director ALAN G. PARKER For 'You Wanted The Best… You Got The Best' Movie
KISS has tapped Alan G. Parker to direct "You Wanted The Best… You Got The Best - The Official Kiss Movie".
Parker's credits include "Never Mind The Sex Pistols", "Who Killed Nancy", "Rebel Truce: The History Of The Clash" and "Monty Python: Almost The Truth".
"You Wanted The Best… You Got The Best - The Official Kiss Movie" promises to offer the most in-depth look yet at the band who formed in New York in the early '70s as WICKED LESTER and went on to sell over 75 million albums.
"We are thrilled to have Alan onboard to help tell the definitive KISS story, a story of insanity… dedication… and a take-no-prisoners attitude combining to create the most spectacular beast in rock 'n' roll history; KISS," says KISS frontman Paul Stanley. "Alan's knowledge of the band amazed even us! We wanted the best…. we got the best!"
Adds KISS manager Doc McGhee: "It's an epic undertaking and everyone’s committed 100 percent to bring this story to the big screen. We knew Alan was the only man for the job and we can’t wait to get started."
"I'm incredibly proud to be on board for this film," says Parker, "telling the story of a band I love so much and that has such a rich history."
KISS has just completed a Canadian tour in support of its latest album, "Monster". The band's North American dates will run through August 18 in Hollywood, Florida, with a four-date Japanese trek scheduled for October.

SCAR SYMMETRY Parts Ways with Guitarist JONAS KJELLGREN
Guitarist Per Nilsson of Swedish progressive melodic death metallers SCAR SYMMETRY has released the following statement:
"It is with heavy hearts that we finally make it official: Jonas [Kjellgren, guitar] has decided to leave SCAR SYMMETRY. Due to scheduling conflicts with his studio work and his other bands — RAUBTIER and BOURBON BOYS — Jonas hasn't been able to perform live with SCAR SYMMETRY for the past one and a half years, and from what he has told us, he will not be able to in the foreseeable future either.
"Back in 2004, Henrik [Ohlsson, drums] and I got to know Jonas when recording with our previous band in his studio. We quickly became friends, and it was inevitable that soon enough, we would start talking about forming a new band together. It has been an amazing journey since, making the music of our dreams come to life on five albums, being picked up by the legendary Nuclear Blast Records and touring all over Europe and North America.
"We won't bring in an offical replacement. Instead we'll continue as a five-piece, sometimes bringing in a session guitar player for live shows — just as we effectively have been doing it since Jonas quit touring with us.
"This Friday, we'll perform at U.K.'s Bloodstock festival which marks the end of the touring cycle for 'The Unseen Empire'. Next up is finalizing the songwriting for our next recording project, which will be our most ambititous yet!
"Thank you, Jonas, for the good times, the friendship and the amazing music. You will be missed!"
SCAR SYMMETRY was forced to cancel its fall 2012 North American headlining tour due to visa issues.
The band's's latest album, "The Unseen Empire", sold around 1,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 11 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
"The Unseen Empire" was released on April 15, 2011 in Europe and May 17, 2011 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records.

AS I LAY DYING Frontman Granted Permission To Leave House For Physical Therapy
According to the San Diego Reader, AS I LAY DYING frontman Tim Lambesis, who is under house arrest for allegedly hiring a hitman to kill his wife, was granted permission to get out for therapy.
"Defendant Timothy Lambesis is currently on house arrest and due to the restrictions of his release cannot leave the house to seek medical attention for the neck injury from which he is currently suffering," Lambesis' private attorney, Thomas Warwick Jr., said in a statement asking a court to allow his client exceptions to his house arrest.
An order allowing defendant to go to his physical therapy appointments was signed on August 2 by Superior Court Judge Kimberlee Lagotta.
Lambesis will be able to go to a therapist named Lanele Stafford at Coast Kinesiology in Del Mar as well as to an orthopedic group in La Jolla.
Prosecutors allege Lambesis had twice told a man at a gym that he wanted his wife killed, then met with an undercover detective known as "Red", and gave the agent an envelope containing $1,000 in cash, photographs of his wife, and the security gate code to her house. He also allegedly told the agent the dates he would be with the couple's three adopted children, in order to give himself an alibi.
"When specifically asked do you want her dead, he said, 'Yes that's exactly what I want,'" Deputy District Attorney Claudia Grasso told the judge. "The victim now is terrified and living in seclusion."
In court, Grasso said that Lambesis did not flinch when told the hit on his wife would cost $20,000. "He was very willing to pay that," she said, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.
Lambesis, who was originally booked into jail on suspicion of two felonies — conspiracy and murder-for-hire — was ordered to wear a GPS monitor and turn in his passport and was warned by the judge that he must stay away from his immediate family. The conspiracy charge was dropped before Lambesis was arraigned.
Tim's wife Meggan filed papers in September 2012 in San Diego Superior Court seeking a dissolution of the couple's marriage.

STRYPER: 'No More Hell To Pay' Cover Artwork Unveiled
Frontiers Records will release "No More Hell To Pay", the new album from Christian rockers STRYPER, on November 5 in North America. The effort will be made available in two formats — standard CD and deluxe digipak featuring exclusive video content. Produced by frontman/guitarist Michael Sweet himself, the set features some of STRYPER's strongest and heaviest material ever.
Commented Sweet, "'No More Hell To Pay' marks our 30-year anniversary and what a journey it has been! It's our eleventh studio release since our first album in 1984 ('The Yellow & The Black Attack') and it's quite possibly our best record to date. Why? It's everything you might expect from a STRYPER record — high-octane vocals, layered vocal harmonies, guitar solos galore, driving drums and bass and an energy that hasn't been achieved since our glory days. The message is equally as powerful as it offers hope and inspiration to anyone listening. If you're a STRYPER fan, it'll make you proud to be one. If you're not, listen with caution as you may actually become one.
"We've been waving the striped flag for 30 years and we're proud to say that it's an honor to still be making music with you and for you. The best is yet to come and it's coming November 5th!"
"No More Hell To Pay" includes STRYPER's cover version of "Jesus Is Just Alright", a gospel song written by Arthur Reid Reynolds. STRYPER guitarist/vocalist Michael Sweet said, "It rivals our cover of EARTH, WIND & FIRE's 'Shining Star' — riffs!"
"Jesus Is Just Alright" was first recorded by Reynolds' own group, THE ART REYNOLDS SINGERS, on their 1966 album, "Tellin' It Like It Is". It was later covered by THE BYRDS and THE DOOBIE BROTHERS.
"No More Hell To Pay" track listing:
01. Revelation
02. No More Hell To Pay
03. Saved By Love
04. Jesus Is Just Alright
05. The One
06. Legacy
07. Marching Into Battle
08. Te Amo
09. Sticks & Stones
10. Water Into Wine
11. Sympathy
12. Renewed
STRYPER played a brand new song, "Marching Into Battle", during their July 14 concert at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, New York. Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.
STRYPER will film two new videos and an EPK (Electronic Press Kit) in August in support of "No More Hell To Pay". The band's last three videos were shot and released in 1990 and 1991 when the band was promoting its "Against The Law" LP.
Regarding the musical direction of STRYPER's new material, Michael Sweet told Screamer Magazine: "The song 'God', which is on 'The Covering'; if you took that song along with 'Bleeding From Inside Out' and 'Blackened' [from 'Second Coming'], and you put it on the same album, that's a pretty good indication of where we are going and where we are at right now. But at the same time this album is all its own."
He added: "Every song has a hooky guitar riff. Everything is in minor keys, so it's a little darker sounding and a little tougher. It's definitely our heaviest record and I think people will be pleasantly surprised.
"The people who do like the poppier side of STRYPER, like 'Calling On You' and 'Holding On', this record isn't going to really give them that. There are a lot of vocal hooks and melodies going on, but it's a little darker, and a little edgier. To reference, there is less songs like 'Calling On You' and more songs like 'To Hell With The Devil'. It's more in that vein than the poppier vein."
Michael Sweet previously stated that the new STRYPER CD would contain "the best [songs] of our career [with] no pop or fluff musically or lyrically." He added: "I'm counting the days for its arrival and when it does arrive, it will be like a train speeding down the tracks — fast, heavy, unstoppable and loud! I get excited for every record, but I've never quite been this excited before. This record will be one for the books, and in my humble opinion, our best yet bar none. No pride here, just confidence that it's going to be great — really, really great." | 0

BLACK TIDE Loses Members, Records New EP
Miami-based hard rockers BLACK TIDE have completed recording a new six-song EP, "Bite The Bullet", at Live House studios in their hometown with producer/engineer Mariano Aponte (formerly of Silvia Massy's RadioStar Studios). The band states: "We really went back to our roots on this one and it is being mixed right now!"
Only two members remain from the lineup that recorded BLACK TIDE's 2011 album "Post Mortem": Gabriel Garcia (vocals, lead guitar) and Austin Diaz (rhythm guitar). They are being joined in the studio by drummer Tim D'Onofrio.
Comments Garcia: "So the rumors are true. Things have changed drastically. Members out. Possible new ones around… Hmmmm.
"Just so everyone knows…. Austin and I did reach out to Steven [Spence, drums] and Zakk [Sandler, bass] about working on this EP with us. They've moved on to new things. But we are still here and thinking about all of our amazing fans.
"This EP is gonna be off the chain!"
"Post Mortem" sold 5,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 73 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was made available in August 2011 via DGC/Interscope Records.
"Post Mortem" was written and recorded in the summer of 2010, and was the follow-up to 2008's "Light From Above", which garnered instant critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, Spin, Revolver and more.

ANTHRAX Drummer Undergoes Surgery For Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante is recovering from surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome. He writes on Twitter: "Surgeon fixed my hand, nothing broken, just carpal tunnel…behind my ANTHRAX drum kit soon, 9/13 in San Bernardino"
ANTHRAX's current touring lineup includes SHADOWS FALL guitarist Jon Donais, who has been touring with ANTHRAX since Rob Caggiano's departure in January, and former TESTAMENT/SLAYER and current ANIMETAL USA drummer Jon Dette, who is filling in for Benante.
Dette previously filled in for Benante on ANTHRAX's European tour last fall as the support act for MOTÖRHEAD and Australia's Soundwave Festival in February/March.
Asked how he landed the ANTHRAX gig, Dette told "The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show": "Actually, Jason Bittner from SHADOWS FALL, who was filling in for Charlie on this last ANTHRAX run last year, couldn't do one of the tours that was coming up and called me and asked me if I would be available to do it. And I said, 'Of course. It would be great.' And the next day Charlie called me — which, Charlie is one my biggest influences ever, next to [Dave] Lombardo [of SLAYER], so it was kind of a surreal moment for me to get a call like that, saying, 'Hey, can you help me out?' Which, of course, I said, 'Absolutely"
Regarding how it feels to be playing with ANTHRAX, Dette said: "It's amazing, man. The first day that I started playing drums — a lot of people may or may not know this — the first album I ever got from the day I got my drum set was 'Fistful Of Metal' [by ANTHRAX], and literally, the first song I ever tried playing on drums was 'Metal Thrashing Mad'. Actually, I [was] hanging out with Charlie and I told him that this morning, and he was, like, 'Really?' And I'm, like, 'Yeah, really.' [laughs] ANTHRAX, METALLICA and SLAYER, they were such a foundation of my style growing up, and I've been privileged now to actually play for two of those bands. It's a very natural thing for me to play, but at the same time, seeing the back of their heads on stage, and Joey [Belladonna] is looking at me and he's singing, and I'm just, like, 'This is great.' I guess you can say that I play with a lot of passion when I'm with those bands, 'cause it's just absolutely passion and just an amazing experience."

MOTÖRHEAD's LEMMY Refused To Let WACKEN OPEN AIR Fans Down
MOTÖRHEAD was forced to cut its set short at this year's Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany due to frontman Lemmy Kilmister's health.
The band played only six songs this past Friday before leaving the stage, effectively pulling the plug on what was supposed to be a 75-minute concert.
MOTÖRHEAD has since posted the following statement on its Facebook page: "The show had to go on because that's how Lemmy rolls. Even though he was not 100% fit, he refused to feel he was letting the 85,000 Wacken fans down. They kicked ass in the 100-plus-degree heat for a shortened, but powerful, set before Lemmy finally realized he might have bitten off a little more than he could chew. Thus, he will embark upon the recuperation recommended. We know that rumors are flying around, but once he fully recharges, MOTÖRHEAD will be back, don't you worry!"
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Wacken organizers said: "MOTÖRHEAD rocked the Black Stage for more than 30 minutes and Lemmy gave everything he's got to play an amazing live show. He's keeping well — but the temperatures and circumstances led to the point that continuing the show would have lead to a loss of quality.
"We are very happy and proud that Phil [Campbell], Mikkey [Dee] and particularly Mr. Rock 'N' Roll himself, Lemmy Kilmister, played W:O:A 2013 and that they did everything humanly possible to play this gig. Thank you so much, guys!"
MOTÖRHEAD played the following songs:
01. I Know How To Die
02. Damage Case
03. Stay Clean
04. Metropolis
05. Over The Top
06. The Chase Is Better Than The Catch
A number of photos of MOTÖRHEAD's performance at Wacken Open Air 2013 can be found at Rocknroll-Reporter.de.
MOTÖRHEAD's new album, "Aftershock", will be released in the fall. The follow-up to 2010's "The Wörld Is Yours" was recorded at Maple Sound Studios in Santa Ana, California with longtime producer Cameron Webb.

WITHIN TEMPTATION Signs North American Licensing Deal With NUCLEAR BLAST ENTERTAINMENT
Having recently announced their new label home with U.K.-based Dramatico, Dutch symphonic rockers WITHIN TEMPTATION have signed a licensing deal with Nuclear Blast Entertainment for the North American territory.
"There are very few bands out there today who continually deliver on such a high and consistent level as WITHIN TEMPTATION," states Nuclear Blast Entertainment president Monte Conner. "That is why they have such an incredibly loyal worldwide fan base. I am thrilled they chose Nuclear Blast Entertainment as their U.S. partner. Their fans are in for a real treat come later this year!"
Equally excited are WITHIN TEMPTATION's vocalist Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt, who comment: "We were looking for a partnership with a passionate and artist-minded company. Monte Conner, Markus Staiger [label owner], and the people at Nuclear Blast exactly fit this profile."
WITHIN TEMPTATION members are currently working on the follow-up to 2011's "The Unforgiving", which debuted at No. 50 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, achieved the band's highest-ever chart position in the U.S. and U.K., and landed in the Top 5 on the European Billboard chart. "The Unforgiving" also debuted in the Top 10 in twelve different countries. The Dutch group has amassed four Netherlands Export Awards, more than 30 gold and platinum sales awards, two MTV European Music Awards, two World Music Awards, and numerous international accolades.
A 20-second teaser for WITHIN TEMPTATION's forthcoming single and video can be seen below.
Westerholt in 2011 announced that he would step down from touring duties in order to focus on taking care of the three children he has with Sharon den Adel. His replacement on stage is Stefan Helleblad, who had been working with the group behind the scenes for a few years.

DEATH ANGEL: New Album Title, Cover Artwork Revealed
San Francisco Bay Area metallers DEATH ANGEL will release their seventh album, "The Dream Calls For Blood", on October 11 in Eorpe (except for the U.K. where it will arrive three days later) and October 15 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. The follow-up to 2010's "Relentless Retribution" was recorded at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with producer Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, AUGUST BURNS RED, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, ALL THAT REMAINS, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER), and once again features cover art by Brent Elliot White (JOB FOR A COWBOY, CARNIFEX, WHITECHAPEL).
Commented White: "Rob [Cavestany, DEATH ANGEL guitarist] contacted me early on about doing this cover. He wanted a continuation of the work we did on 'Relentless Retribution'. Kind of a complimentary piece that featured the wolf in sheep's clothing again, only this time in some sort of frozen environment.
"I love it. I guess he's come to be known as 'Wolfie.' Perfect!
"As the concepts for the album grew, so did the details and various elements for the album cover. For example, it started as a single lone wolf, though Rob thought it important to add his pack. I guess they're somewhat symbolic of the band. The wolves look like they've come a long way. I can relate.
"I don't want to try to dictate the meaning of the cover art. Suffice to say the main elements depicted in the piece are representational of the core thoughts and themes Rob poured into the album. Solar eclipse, lunar mirage, lighting from the coming storm, the killing field , blood, death, decay...those things.
"Though, at times, this one was a struggle, the album title actually pushed it to where it needed to be. I love the title, a perfect representation of the lyrics and DEATH ANGEL in general."
Added Suecof: "Once again, my metal brothers have put out an album that truly captures their live energy and originality as a band. DEATH ANGEL has not only maintained their classic thrash element, but they've taken every aspect of what they can do as musicians to the next level — writing, playing and maintaining an intense vibe throughout all the tracks! I believe this is an album that will stand the test of time — not just for DEATH ANGEL fans, but for fans of all genres of metal. Enjoy!"
Stated Cavestany: "'The Dream Calls For Blood' is the wicked stepsister to our last album, 'Relentless Retribution' — but even more cruel and sinister than her! It's the first time we connected two records — created and produced by the same team in the same studio as 'Relentless Retribution', yet this release is more furious... probably because so much of it was written on the road.
"Brent did an amazing job with the cover art, again capturing the natural brutality of the hunted becoming the hunter... as territorial instinct turns into bloodlust! Down to the last detail, his art depicts a visual that matches our music and lyrics — making a complete package that we are so proud of!
"Can't wait for you all to hear, see and feel it. Now we prepare to bring it live!"
DEATH ANGEL will celebrate the release of its new album by performing at Slim's in San Francisco on October 18. Also scheduled to appear are 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, BATTLECROSS and REVOCATION. Tickets include a copy of the new CD.
"Relentless Retribution" sold 2,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 10 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. The band's previous album, "Killing Season", opened with around 2,300 units back in March 2008. This number was in line with the performance of its predecessor, "The Art of Dying", which registered a first-week sales tally of around 2,100 back in May 2004.

KING'S X Frontman DOUG PINNICK Releases 'IYFU' Video
"IYFU (If You Fuk Up)", the new video from KING'S X frontman Doug "Dug" Pinnick, can be seen below. The song comes off Pinnick's latest solo album, "Naked", which was released in May via RockArmy Records.
According to a press release, "'Naked' is deeply personal and overflowing with [Pinnick's] unmistakable tone, groove, and heart-wrenching vocals. PEARL JAM's Jeff Ament said that 'heavy music didn't start in Seattle, it started in Katy, Texas with KING'S X' and 'Naked' is proof that Pinnick remains at the top of his game."
Pinnick in December released a special holiday-themed digital-only single via RockArmy Records and his own dUgtone imprint featuring the songs "Holiday" and "Ho Ho Ho". This single came right on the heels of the release of the first single from "Naked", featuring the songs "What You Gonna Do?" and "Courage".
"Naked" is Pinnick's sixth solo album, including two released under the moniker POUNDHOUND. Pinnick wrote, performed, produced, and mixed the CD and the new single on his own in his home studio in Los Angeles.
RockArmy Records is owned by Paul Soroski, the bassist for PODUNK, who have done numerous national tours alongside KING'S X, TESLA, and others. Soroski's studio credits include 2010's "Dead New World" by ILL NINO and 2009's "Reflections" by RAZR13, which features Pinnick on lead vocals.
Pinnick is best known as the vocalist/bassist for KING'S X, the influential hard rock act that also features guitarist Ty Tabor and drummer Jerry Gaskill. KING'S X celebrated 32 years of activity as a band in 2012 with a run of U.S. dates alongside KANSAS. The band's most recent studio album, "XV", was released in 2008 and was their highest-charting album since 1996's "Ear Candy". In 2005, VH1 included KING'S X in its list of "100 Greatest Artists In Hard Rock." | 0

ELDRITCH Begins Recording New Album
Italian progressive metallers ELDRITCH have entered the studio to begin recording their ninth album for an early 2014 release.
A short video clip from the drum-tracking sessions can be seen below.
ELDRITCH's eighth studio album, "Gaia's Legacy", was released in September 2011 via Scarlet Records. A concept effort dealing with global warming based on Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth", the CD saw ELDRITCH going back to its technical progressive roots, with lots of influences raging from thrash to AOR and a modern approach still in the band's distinctive style. Frontman Terence Holler wrote all the lyrics after a deep search of information on every kind of source for the last three years.
"Gaia's Legacy" was produced by Marco Ribecai and Eugenio Simone at Syncropain Products Studio in Pisa, Italy, and mastered by Göran Finnberg (OPETH, IN FLAMES, EVERGREY, DARK TRANQUILLITY) in Sweden. FIREWIND's Bob Katsionis, a longtime fan of the band, is credited as special guest keyboardist on the song "Like A Child".
ELDRITCH 2013 is:
Terence Holler - Vocals
Eugene Simone - Lead and Rhythm Guitar
Rudj Ginanneschi - Rhythm Guitar
John Crystal - Bass
Raffahell Dridge - Drums
Gabriele Caselli - Keyboards | 0

OBITUARY Succeeds On KICKSTARTER, Announces MORRISOUND Documentary For Backers
After legendary Florida death metallers OBITUARY launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to cover production costs of their new album, fans opened their wallets in support at an unexpectedly quick rate. The project goal of $10,000 was earmarked for mastering, mixing and producing the new CD — which will be recorded at the band's own studio in Tampa, Florida.
As of right now (Tuesday, August 6), the campaign sits at $17,376, with 40 days left to go.
OBITUARY initially launched the campaign with "Stretch Goals" at monetary denominations above and beyond the project's goal, the first at $20,000, which offered a reward with a brief description that read: "Morrisound documentary: We took a camera crew to Morrisound Studios, where it all started, set up our gear and recorded for three days. If we reach $20,000, we will edit the footage into a four-part documentary. Every single backer will receive a digital download of the 'Morrisound Experience'."
The project is quickly approaching the $20,000 benchmark, and late last night (August 5) the band posted an update describing — in some detail — the "long and tangled history" between Morrisound Recording Studio, OBITUARY and death metal music.
The metal world seems to be split between those in full support of OBITUARY and their efforts to crowd fund an album, and those who can't seem to shake the feeling that this really boils down to the guys begging for money.
Take it how you will, they said from the start. "We want to make music for the fans that still come out to shows, that still rock our gear, that still have a 'Slowly We Rot' CD in your car. You...you are the reason that we are doing this," the OBITUARY members said.
If the project's quick success is any indication, OBITUARY is pretty in tune with what their fans want. With the announcement of the "Morrisound Experience" details, it's getting harder and harder to argue that this is about making a quick buck with their hands out. The boys seem to be offering some truly unique and well-thought-out rewards for their Kickstarter supporters.
Quotes on the Morrisound documentary:
Donald Tardy (OBITUARY drummer): "We couldn't be more excited about sharing the 'Morrisound Experience' with our fans. We have performed this classic set list on every corner of the planet, so for us to have the chance to go back, perform it in the studio where it all happened, and deliver it back to the fans is really freaking awesome!"
John Tardy (OBITUARY vocalist): "We wound up at Morrisound, where we set up and went over the first three albums, 16 songs. We played those songs, in Morrisound, and had about 50 friends, some coolers of beer. We had some real good friends like Scott Burns, Mark Prator, Jim and Tom Morris, Jon Oliva showed up, Kelly from ATHEIST, some of the DEICIDE guys showed up. It was awesome! We just set up there and jammed it. We answered some questions about Morrisound's early days and how things went while we were there, so we ended up putting together this documentary, even though I hate that word, 'documentary.'"
OBITUARY is considered to be one of the pioneering bands in the death metal genre, and their 1992 album "The End Complete" holds the title of the one of the best-selling pure death metal albums ever released, with 100,000 copies sold in the U.S., and over 250,000 worldwide.
The band got their start in 1984 under the name EXECUTIONER, they later changed the name to XECUTIONER, and finally to OBITUARY in 1988 after signing with Roadrunner Records.

ANNIHILATOR is preparing to film a video for the song "No Way Out" in Hannover, Germany. The track comes off the band's 14th studio album, "Feast", which will be released on August 23 in Europe and August 27 in North America via UDR. EMPEROR: No New Studio Album Or World Tour
Norwegian black metallers EMPEROR will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their "In The Nightside Eclipse" album at next year's Wacken Open Air festival, set to take place July 31-August 2, 2014 in Wacken, Germany. EMPEROR members Ihsahn (real name: Vegard Sverre Tveitan) and Samoth (real name: Tomas Haugen) will be joined by Bård Guldvik "Faust" Eithun on drums, and they will perform the CD in its entirety. There will be no new studio album or a worldwide tour — only a few exclusive festival appearances next year to mark the celebration of this landmark release.
The news of EMPEROR's appearance at Wacken Open Air was announced on Friday, August 2 at this year's edition of the festival at a press conference which was attended by Ihsahn and Samoth.
EMPEROR released its swansong, "Prometheus - The Discipline Of Fire And Demise", in September 2001. It was an epic and progressive metal album that once and for all marked EMPEROR as one of the most adventurous and gifted black metal bands of all times. In 2005, EMPEROR surprised all with an unannounced appearance at Oslo's famed Inferno festival. Following the performance, the band announced additional concerts that would include a visit to America; marking the second trip to the States in the band's legendary career. Fans flocked to New York City and Los Angeles to witness the sold-out performances. In 2007, additional shows would see the band return to the U.S. for a repeat performance in New York City, a stop in Chicago, and what would be their final American performance in Los Angeles.
In a May 2012 interview with Gun Shy Assassin, Ihsahn stated about the possibility of more EMPEROR live performances in the future: "After 2007, that was really a final chapter for all of us. But there's always some underlying pressure to do something. Usually, I just say plain 'No.' I can understand the nostalgia and all that. If I wanted to be as nostalgic as everyone else, it wouldn't make any sense for me to actually make any new music [with my solo project] ."
He added: "People who are old-time EMPEROR fans still think I'm 17.
"I am in contact with the guys, and we talk almost weekly; they're good friends. What can I say? Never say never. For the moment, I am so occupied with my own project — that's my main priority."
Ihsahn said he left EMPEROR because he wanted different things.
"I ended up doing most of that last EMPEROR record on my own. If we still did EMPEROR, and if it were up to me, what I do now… that's what we would sound like."
But there will be no new music from EMPEROR, Ihsahn said.
"Part of the reason why our albums keep on selling is probably because we were always an uncompromising band, and that is a tradition I would like to uphold. If we did a new EMPEROR album, what kind of EMPEROR album would people like? I say listen to the stuff I do, and the stuff that Samoth does, and you can more or less figure out what a new EMPEROR record would sound like, and that sounds nothing like old EMPEROR. Trying to duplicate something from the past would just turn everything into a parody.
"Would anyone want a black metal album made just for the sake of making a lot of money?" Ihsahn asked. "I get all of these requests to get back with EMPEROR. In the spirit of black metal, I do whatever the hell I want. That's the whole point of black metal. If I even consider letting anyone else try to tell me what I should do with my music, that, by definition, would make it non-black metal… as I have learned it."

DREAM THEATER: 'The Enemy Inside' Lyric Video Released
The official lyric video for "The Enemy Inside", a brand new song from progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER, can be seen below. The track comes off the band's new, self-titled album — the band's 12th studio release overall, and fourth with Roadrunner Records — which is due on on September 24.
Says guitarist John Petrucci about "Dream Theater": "I see every new album as an opportunity to start over. To either build or improve upon a direction that has been evolving over time or to completely break new ground.
"This is the first self-titled album of our career and there is nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that. We've fully explored all of the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic.
"We're incredibly excited about 'Dream Theater' and can't wait for everyone to hear it."
The nine-track disc was recorded at Cove City Studio in Glen Cove, Long Island, with Petrucci producing and Richard Chycki engineering and mixing. It's the band's second album with drummer Mike Mangini, and the first one on which he was a part of the writing process from Day One.
In January, Petrucci said of Mangini's work: "When people hear the drumming on this album, they're gonna be pretty freaked out. On the last album, he did a great job, but he wasn't there for the writing process and he was interpreting drum parts that I had programmed. Even though he used his creativity, of course, to change them up and do his thing, I feel like now he's just Mike Mangini unleashed. It's all him. It's all his creativity, all his decisions and ideas and man, the guy's an animal."
