BLACK FLAG's GREG GINN Sues Former Bandmates Over Use Of Logo And Name
According to The Hollywood Reporter, BLACK FLAG's founding guitarist Greg Ginn has filed a lawsuit against his former bandmates for alleged copyright infringement.
Ginn claims the members of the recently formed band FLAG — Keith Morris, Dez Cadena, Chuck Dukowski and Bill Stevenson — have infringed the BLACK FLAG name and infamous logo, calling FLAG "a colorable imitation" that's "likely to cause confusion, mistake or deception among consumers."
Also named in the lawsuit, which was filed on August 2 in Federal District Court, is former BLACK FLAG singer Henry Rollins, who is not part of the BLACK FLAG splinter group.
Ginn, who did not actually file for trademark registration for BLACK FLAG-related marks until this past June, is seeking an injunction against FLAG's current tour, which kicked off in May. He also accuses his former bandmates of "lying to the Trademark Office on registrations; using his own label's record covers to feign as though they've been continuing to use BLACK FLAG since 1979 and using bootleg SST t-shirts."
A copy of the lawsuit can be seen below. | 0

MIKE PORTNOY Says His Latest DREAM THEATER Comments Were 'Taken Completely Out Of Context'
Drummer Mike Portnoy says that his latest comments about his former band, DREAM THEATER, were "taken completely out of context" and he claims that he is "completely focused" on his present project, THE WINERY DOGS, "for the future."
On July 30, Portnoy was interviewed by Chile's Radio Futuro prior to THE WINERY DOGS' July 30 concert in Santiago.
Asked what his relationship with his former bandmates in DREAM THEATER is like today and what he thought of the band's last studo album, Portnoy replied: "If you wanna talk about DREAM THEATER for the 25 years I was there, then sure, but I'm not gonna talk about DREAM THEATER now, 'cause people get too uptight about it, so… If you wanna talk about the other 25 years, sure, but [laughs] I'm not gonna talk about them and what they do now without me; I'm here to talk about what I'm doing."
Mike was also asked whether he would one day be willing to reunite with DREAM THEATER and rejoin the band as their drummer. "Sure," he replied. "I would do it in a heartbeat. They are the ones that have closed the door on it. I've only needed a break, and I've had that break. So I'm ready, willing and able. But I honestly don't think they ever will; they've closed their door on it and I think they're too headstrong in having to prove themselves without me. So I wouldn't count on it. But my door is always open."
In a new posting on his official Facebook page, Portnoy wrote: " Here's the full interview that this silly latest DREAM THEATER headline came from... As you'll hear, the blurb making the Internet rounds is being taken completely out of context from when the interviewer ASKED ME about the possibility of reuniting with DREAM THEATER.
"For the record, I am VERY happy where I'm at and am completely focused on THE WINERY DOGS for the future. It was just a silly hypothetical question the interviewer ASKED ME. And now you know why I don't like to discuss DREAM THEATER in interviews!! Hahaha..."
Portnoy, who co-founded DREAM THEATER more than 27 years ago, abruptly quit the band in September 2010 while on tour with AVENGED SEVENFOLD. He has since been replaced by Mike Mangini (ANNIHILATOR, EXTREME, JAMES LABRIE, STEVE VAI).
Portnoy played on AVENGED SEVENFOLD's latest album, "Nightmare", following the death of that band's drummer, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, and toured with them for the entire second half of 2010.
Portnoy announced his departure from ADRENALINE MOB in June due to "scheduling conflicts." A replacement drummer has not yet been announced.

MOTÖRHEAD's LEMMY Is 'Alive And Kicking' Despite Reports To The Contrary
MOTÖRHEAD guitarist Phil Campbell tweeted the following message earlier today:
"Contrary to some reports, Lem [MOTÖRHEAD mainman Lemmy Kilmister] is alive and kicking so take no notice of these rumours from asshole tweeters."
MOTÖRHEAD was forced to cut its set short at this year's Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany due to Lemmy's health.
The band played only six songs this past Friday before leaving the stage, effectively pulling the plug on what was supposed to be a 75-minute concert.
Brazilian promoter Top Link Music, which had organized MOTÖRHEAD's tours in Latin America in the past, posted a message earlier today (see screenshot below) erroneously announcing that Lemmy had died. The message cited a phone call that Top Link Music's Paulo Baron received at 2:30 a.m. — supposedly confirmed by several other sources — indicating Lemmy had passed away. Top Link Music has since retracted the statement and apologized for the error.
MOTÖRHEAD canceled a handful of shows on its European festival tour last month after Lemmy, suffered a haematoma (where blood collects outside of a blood vessel). The news of Lemmy's latest medical issue followed reports that he was also recently fitted with a defibrillator because of heart problems.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Wacken organizers said: "MOTÖRHEAD rocked the Black Stage for more than 30 minutes and Lemmy gave everything he's got to play an amazing live show. He's keeping well — but the temperatures and circumstances led to the point that continuing the show would have lead to a loss of quality.
"We are very happy and proud that Phil [Campbell], Mikkey [Dee] and particularly Mr. Rock 'N' Roll himself, Lemmy Kilmister, played W:O:A 2013 and that they did everything humanly possible to play this gig. Thank you so much, guys!"
MOTÖRHEAD played the following songs:
01. I Know How To Die
02. Damage Case
03. Stay Clean
04. Metropolis
05. Over The Top
06. The Chase Is Better Than The Catch
Professionally filmed video footage of 12 minutes' worth of MOTÖRHEAD's abbreviated August 2 performance at this year's Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany can be seen below.
A number of photos of MOTÖRHEAD's performance at Wacken Open Air 2013 can be found at Rocknroll-Reporter.de.
MOTÖRHEAD's new album, "Aftershock", will be released in the fall. The follow-up to 2010's "The Wörld Is Yours" was recorded at Maple Sound Studios in Santa Ana, California with longtime producer Cameron Webb.

THE WINERY DOGS Plays First-Ever U.S. Show In New York City; Video Available
Fan-filmed video footage of THE WINERY DOGS' August 3 concert B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City can be seen below.
THE WINERY DOGS is the power trio featuring drummer Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, ADRENALINE MOB), legendary bassist Billy Sheehan (MR. BIG, TALAS, DAVID LEE ROTH) and Richie Kotzen (MR. BIG, POISON).
The self-titled debut album from THE WINERY DOGS sold around 10,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 27 on The Billboard 200 chart.
"The Winery Dogs" was released in North America on July 23 via Loud & Proud Records and in Japan on May 15 via Victor Entertainment. The CD was mixed by Jay Ruston, who has previously worked with ANTHRAX, ADRENALINE MOB, STONE SOUR and STEEL PANTHER. Sheehan previously stated about the effort: "I'm really pleased with it. Richie sang his ass off and played amazingly unique stuff, and, of course Mike annihilated on drums. [It's a] really cool, unique record."
"In all of my years in this business, I've always been part of either a progressive band or a metal band," said Portnoy. "This is the first time I've been in an all-original band that's just a rock band in the vein of LED ZEPPELIN or VAN HALEN."
He added: "It's so refreshing to just play straight-ahead music with lots of twists. Obviously, the musicianship is great in this band, but it's very song-oriented."
Regarding how THE WINERY DOGS got its name, Portnoy said: "It was Richie's name. We had a list of about 50 names. I had about 10 that I preferred over THE WINERY DOGS, but you know, when you're in a band, you have to give and take and choose your battles, and Richie really, really loved this band name. So, you know, it was, like, 'OK.' A name is a name. If you feel that strongly about it, then go for it. So that's who we are."
"The Winery Dogs" track listing:
CD:
01. Elevate
02. Desire
03. We Are One
04. I'm No Angel
05. The Other Side
06. You Saved Me
07. Not Hopeless
08. One More Time

SERJ TANKIAN: 'We Have Not Yet Agreed On A Timetable' For New SYSTEM OF A DOWN Album
SYSTEM OF A DOWN singer Serj Tankian has once again shot down reports that the band is making plans to make a new studio album.
At the conclusion of the group's concert this past Monday night (July 29) at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California, SYSTEM OF A DOWN drummer John Dolmayan announced that the band's next appearance at the venue will be to promote a new studio CD.
"Next time we come back here, we'll have a new fucking album!" Dolmayan told the crowd after the final song of SYSTEM OF A DOWN's set, "Sugar".
While answering questions in a Reddit Ask Me Anything session earlier today (Wednesday, July 31), Tankian was asked if any progress has been made with regards to SYSTEM OF A DOWN's return to the studio.
"We really appreciate [the fact that the fans want a new studio album from us], but we have to make a record when we think it's time, not anyone else," Serj said.
"No, that is not true [that we have made plans to begin work on a new album]," he added. "A quick scan of press online will show that we have not yet agreed on a timetable for another record due to its time commitments."
Tankian also addressed the series of statements that were posted in May on SYSTEM OF A DOWN bassist Shavo Odadjian's Facebook page in which Shavo directly blamed Serj for the band's continued lack of new music, saying that the vocalist was holding the group back.
"Shavo's comments have been redacted by the author," Serj said. "The truth is above in my first answer."
He continued: 'I am not opposed to making a SYSTEM record at all. It just has to be the right time for us all in the band."
Tankian has just released two albums through his Serjical Strike Records. "Orca", Tankian's first true symphony, arrived on June 25, while July 23 saw the release of a collaborative jazz-inspired disc called "Jazz-iz Christ".
SYSTEM OF A DOWN will tour Europe throughout the month of August. After that, Tankian will launch a series of solo orchestral tour dates on September 19 in Kiev, Ukraine.

JAGUAR Recording First Studio Album In Ten Years
NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) legends JAGUAR are in the studio in the southwest of England laying the intial tracks down for their new album, due out later this year. Entitled "Metal X", the CD will be made available ten years after the release of JAGUAR's last full-length effort, "Run Ragged".
Says the band: "From what our ears can tell, this is shaping up to be 'Metal X' mayhem, taking it right back to the beginning, to true NWOBHM metal. From the outset, even the slow tracks are faster than ever!
"If there was something to look forward to this year for true die-hard and new converts alike, this British metal album could be something special!
"We are doing what we do. It has taken a while, but we are stoked with what we have to offer on this album.
"Look out — it seems as we get older, we are getting faster!"
In January 2007, Majestic Rock issued the first in a series of Internet-only archive releases containing a 1982 soundboard recording of JAGUAR performing in Hengelo, Holland. Entitled "Holland '82", the CD was strictly limited to 1,000 copies and featured sleeve notes from JAGUAR guitarist Garry Pepperd. It was only available from the Majestic Rock web site.
"Run Ragged" was released in July 2003 through Angel Air Records. | 0

RIVAL SONS Parts Ways With Bassist ROBIN EVERHART
Long Beach rock 'n' roll band RIVAL SONS has announced the departure of bassist Robin Everhart. Friend and associate David Beste will take up bass duties for Jugendfest and Parkenfest Norway, plus the upcoming U.S. tour including dates with Sammy Hagar beginning August 20. RIVAL SONS wishes Robin all the best and they are excited for the future.
Guitarist Scott Holiday comments: "Regretfully, we have to let our fans know that our friend and bassist Robin Everhart has left the RIVAL SONS. It is an amicable split and we shall all remain brothers. We wish him well. On the upswing, we will be having our good friend and bass slayer Dave Beste sitting in for the upcoming tour. We invite you to fear not; although we will miss our pal, everyone is extremely excited and revved up for the next chapter in the RIVAL SONS' future."
Adds Everhart: "After years of intensive touring with RIVAL SONS, I have come to the conclusion that I am not a road warrior and that the 'rock 'n' roll lifestyle' is not for me. I will miss playing the music that we made together, and I'm proud of our many accomplishments over the last eight years. As always, thanks to all the fans for their listenership and devotion — it's been an honor to play for you. Keep on swinging!”
RIVAL SONS will finish this summer's festival tour in Norway in August before embarking on their U.S. tour.
RIVAL SONS' latest album, "Head Down", arrived in stores in the U.S. on March 19 via the band's new affiliation with Century Media Records.
"Head Down" was released in Europe on September 17, 2012 via Earache Records. The CD was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee with Grammy-nominated producer Dave Cobb (JAMIE JOHNSON, SHOOTER JENNINGS) and Grammy-winning engineer Vance Powell (JACK WHITE, THE WHITE STRIPES, KINGS OF LEON). The artwork was created by Jason Holley (JOSH RITTER, RAY LAMONTAGNE). | 0

OBITUARY Launches Fundraising Campaign For New Album
Legendary Florida death metallers OBITUARY have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to cover production costs of their new album.
OBITUARY has released eight studio LPs to date, including its most recent CD, "Darkest Day", which came out in 2009. Since then, OBITUARY has taken the time to fully renovate its studio and set up all of the production equipment the bandmembers need to record on their own.
Says the band: "This is about putting our trust, our music, our career, and our new album in your hands!
"We have made the decision to partner with record labels in the past, and we know that we wouldn't be where we are without their help.... but at the end of every single day - the fans are death metal — not some label.
"We don't want to make music for a label, we want to make music for the fans that still come out to shows, that still rock our gear, that still have a 'Slowly We Rot' CD in your car. You... you are the reason that we are doing this.
"As you're reading these stupid words right now, we are extending our hand, and we are asking for your support... so that we can make another heavy fucking death metal album for your little angry ears."
Adds OBITUARY singer John Tardy: "To be able to do an album on our own is something we’ve been thinking about for a long time. It just never has been there, the reach hasn't been there, our experience hasn't been there and everybody would always tell you that you just can't do it on your own, but so many things have changed, and there's so many things that we've learned… that to do our own album would really cap off what's been a great 25 years so far."
Comments OBITUARY drummer Donald Tardy: "Building the Kickstarter campaign has been interesting because this is a first for OBITUARY, and I think we’re stepping onto grounds that a lot of bands are watching, and thinking about trying.
"We dug deep into the sheds and trailers to find one-of-a-kind items, and tons of merchandise... then to wrap all this stuff around a new album and just kinda put it all in the hands of our fans is really exciting."
The Kickstarter goal is set at $10,000 and 100% of that money will be used to pay a production team that will mix, master and produce the new OBITUARY album.
Within three hours of launching the campaign, OBITUARY had raised over 30% of its goal.
OBITUARY is considered to be one of the pioneering bands in the death metal genre, and their 1992 album "The End Complete" holds the title of the one of the best-selling pure death metal albums ever released, with 100,000 copies sold in the U.S., and over 250,000 worldwide.
The band got their start in 1984 under the name EXECUTIONER, they later changed the name to XECUTIONER, and finally to OBITUARY in 1988 after signing with Roadrunner Records.

HOLE's Courtney Love Slams NIRVANA "Reunion" Featuring Paul McCartney - "Dave's An Asshole, Kris I'm Disappointed In"
In a recent interview with Fuse, HOLE frontwoman Courtney Love talked about why she likes Howard Stern, why loves touring, and what she really thinks of Paul McCartney (THE BEATLES) fronting NIRVANA for a so-called reunion. Check out the clip below:
Love: "Dave's an asshole, Kris I'm disappointed in, but I would absolutely not have a problem if there wasn't such a major financial issue with this thing called Nirvana Inc."
McCartney performed with surviving Nirvana members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear last night (Wednesday, December 12th, 2012) at Hurricane Sandy charity concert 121212, at Madison Square Garden in New York City
The quartet performed the new track, 'Cut Me Some Slack', and introducing the song McCartney stated: "So recently some guys asked me to go and jam with them. So I showed up, like you do, ready to jam... and in the middle of it, these guys kept saying, 'You know, well, we haven't played together for years, you know?' So, the penny finally dropped, I finally understood that I was in the middle of a Nirvana reunion."
Check out the performance below:
It was previously reported that McCartney had been secretly working in the studio with Grohl and Novoselic, who formed the main line-up of the iconic grunge band Nirvana, along with singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain who committed suicide in 1994.
The 70-year-old said he received a phone call from Grohl, asking him to come and ‘jam with some mates’.
He found himself playing alongside Novoselic and unofficial fourth Nirvana member Pat Smear, but confessed: ‘I didn’t really know who they were. They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said “Whoa? You guys haven’t played together for all that time?”
‘And somebody whispered to me “That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.” I couldn’t believe it.’
Mccartney was joined by the three surviving members of Nirvana at his gig in Seattle on July 19th, NME reports.
McCartney was giving the first ever concert at the Safeco Field in Seattle, the city whose grunge scene Nirvana became an integral part of. To mark the occasion, he welcomed Dave Grohl, Kris Novoselic and Pat Smear on stage during his encore to play 'Cut Me Some Slack'. The Nirvana trio stayed on to play a selection of Beatles classics with McCartney: 'Get Back', 'Helter Skelter', 'Golden Slumbers', 'Carry That Weight' and 'The End'." Check out some footage below:

BLOODY HAMMERS To Release Spiritual Relics In October
American doomsters BLOODY HAMMERS have completed work on their sophomore LP titled Spiritual Relics. The follow up to the North Carolina occult metal band's eponymously titled debut, Spiritual Relics will be released worldwide on October 1st via cult label Soulseller Records and boasts ten titanic tracks revolving around ironclad themes of classic horror, stories from the coven and chilling evil.
Produced by towering frontman / bassist Anders Manga, Spiritual Relics builds on the strong wall of sound Bloody Hammers created on last year's debut. The album is named in homage to the singularly atomic ROKY ERICKSON & THE ALIENS song of the same name. In support of Spiritual Relics, Bloody Hammers will hit the tour trail for its first North American and European live dates, kicking the festivities off with a prerelease US trek alongside like-minded acts ANCIENT VVISDOM and THE SAINT JAMES SOCIETY and gigs with WEEDEATER, KEN MODE and more.
Additionally, Bloody Hammers has been hand-picked by former PANTERA and current DOWN frontman PHILIP ANSELMO to perform as one of the featured acts at the inaugural Housecore Horror Film Festival set to take place October 24th-27th in Austin, TX. Bloody Hammers will share the stage at the festival with Down, GOBLIN, EYEHATEGOD, PIG DESTROYER, REPULSION and more over the course of the three day fear fest.
"We didn't have any live shows booked when our self-titled album was released," said Anders Manga. "It was much more successful than anticipated, so we went back into the studio while waiting for tour dates to be confirmed. We're very pleased with the result and look forward to getting it out to the fans. The album is packed with more heavy fuzzed out eeriness and horror, as well as some chilled-out creepy southern gothic pieces. It will be released just in time for Halloween, and our performance at Phil Anselmo's Housecore Horror Film Fest in Austin."
Spiritual Relics tracklisting:
‘What’s Haunting You’
‘At The Well Of Nazareth’
‘The Transit Begins’
‘The Source’
‘Color Me Blood Red’

MONSTERWORKS To Release Earth On August 20th
4.5 billion years in the making... Eat Lead And Die Music has announced the impending release of MONSTERWORKS' Earth, available from the Monsterworks' webstore on August 20th with digital distribution through the usual outlets on August 30th. The album will be available as a special edition numbered digipak CD signed by the band, with lyric booklet and two bonus tracks.
Vocalist/Guitarist Jon had this to say about the concepts surrounding the album, "I am intrigued by evolution, not just of biological organisms but also how the physical world changes over time, so it was not that much of a stretch to consider doing an album themed around the life-cycle of Earth; beginning with its origin 'From Dust And Gravity' where a clumping together of rock and minerals left over from a supernova explosion formed a globe orbiting an infant star. Each track progresses chronologically, from an early period called the 'Late Heavy Bombardment' which is thought to have delivered water and seeded chemical elements that developed into life and what was to be our 'Last Universal Ancestor.' Then we move onto a time where cyanobacteria started to photosynthesize and a process of 'Oxygenation' paved the way for more complex animals to evolve, 'Powered By Fate' as it were. Explosions of life, even when resulting in huge animals like dinosaurs, were often 'Bookended by Extinction' events that wiped the slate almost entirely clean until our chance came in the present 'Aeon Of Man.'
"Earth honors the seemingly miraculous yet naturally occurring planet on which we live. The title track is the only song that gets a little preachy about our responsibility as custodians of the environment; the rest is just a tale of the sequence of events that got us this far. So take from it philosophically what you will, Monsterworks primarily aims to produce metal which blurs the boundaries between preposterousness and the familiar while hopefully initiating a little independent thought along the way."
Tracklisting:
'From Dust And Gravity'
'Late Heavy Bombardment'
'Last Universal Ancestor'
'Oxygenation'
'Powered By Fate'
'Bookended By Extinction'
'Aeon Of Man'
'Earth'

MECHANICAL GOD CREATION Announce New Lineup
Wormholedeath Records has issued the following update in regards to Milano, Italy based death metallers MECHANICAL GOD CREATION.
"Keeping an underground band together is one of the most difficult tasks that a band leader has. (Frontwoman) Lucy is always working hard for her project (Mechanical God Creation) and honestly, we always supported her choices plus trusted everything she said since they are the oldest band in our roster. We never let her down and we never let departing members creating so much damage to drive MGC at its end either. In fact once again Lucy is now announcing a new lineup change but we can feel that there’s new found strength and integrity in her words. OK, we are ready, and I think they are too."
Lucy states: “During the last few months, many things happened and changed the future of the band, in my opinion with a positive result. We had too many differences within MGC that led me to make a drastic decision: a change that should have happened months ago. My bad, I closed my eyes and I went ahead and let the problems there making the situation even worse. Sometimes from bad experiences we learn a lot but we don’t find the strength to start again from scratch.Luckily I’m not the kind of girl that leaves thing behind and my sacrifices have paid off specially thanks to the support of the people who believed in me from the very beginning. Because of them I was able to retrieve this project. I started to sing with new excitement...
"With new people and I felt immediately a good feeling in all respects. I’m really happy to introduce you all the new members of the Mechanical God Creation: Salvatore Duca on bass, Mirko Frontini e Francesco Calligaris on guitars and Carlo Molinara on drums. With this new lineup we are already working new material for the next full-length.”
Check out the band's new here and stay tuned for updates. | 0

"Recently we found out that our very close friend, singer of WHAT TOMORROW BRINGS and former SONIC SYNDICATE drummer, Kristoffer 'Bäckis' Bäcklund, was diagnosed with cancer.

TONY HARNELL Says TNT Reunion Rumors Are 'A Bit Premature'
Singer Tony Harnell (pictured below) has shot down reports of his reunion with Norwegian hard rockers TNT as "a bit premature."
TNT guitarist Ronni Le Tekrø has confirmed to Norway's TV 2 that the band has parted ways with its frontman of the past seven years, British vocalist Tony Mills (ex-SHY). In addition, he has expressed his desire to rejoin forces with Harnell for a possible appearance at the Ulturuka festival on August 17 in Vestre Toten, Norway.
But while Harnell has not closed the door on a possible reunion with his former TNT bandmates, he is adamant that the chances of anything happening this quickly are extremely slim.
"I'd just like to say that the 'press leak' in Norway was a bit premature," Harnell wrote on his Facebook page. "Meaning, if anything were to happen, it's not happening this soon. And I'm not saying anything is gonna happen."
Harnell rejoined TNT on stage for their 30th-anniversary concert on June 2, 2012 at the Clarion Hotel in Trondheim, Norway. The group performed a special setlist while accompanied by the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra (Trondheim Symfoniorkester). Also making a special appearance with the band was TNT's original singer, Dag Ingebrigtsen.
After leaving TNT in 2006, Harnell was replaced by Mills, who has since appeared on three studio albums from the band: 2007's "The New Territory", 2008's"Atlantis" and 2010's "A Farewell To Arms".
Harnell's final release as a member of TNT was the "Live in Madrid" DVD, which came out in September 2006 via MTM Music. The set, which was filmed on April 1, 2006 in Madrid, Spain, was accompanied by an 82-minute audio CD plus booklet liner notes from Harnell about his work with the group as well as an additional tour documentary by Darren Paltrowitz.

Drummer BÅRD 'FAUST' EITHUN Confirms Involvement With EMPEROR Reunion
Drummer Bård Guldvik "Faust" Eithun has confirmed that he will be part of the reunited lineup of the Norwegian black metal band EMPEROR when they headline next year's edition of Wacken Open Air festival, set to take place July 31-August 2, 2014 in Wacken, Germany.
"Yes, I am gonna do the full set at Wacken," Eithun wrote in an online posting.
The news of EMPEROR's appearance at the event was announced on Friday, August 2 at this year's Wacken Open Air at a press conference which was attended by EMPEROR members Ihsahn (real name: Vegard Sverre Tveitan) and Samoth (real name: Tomas Haugen).
EMPEROR released its swansong, "Prometheus - The Discipline Of Fire And Demise", in September 2001. It was an epic and progressive metal album that once and for all marked EMPEROR as one of the most adventurous and gifted black metal bands of all times. In 2005, EMPEROR surprised all with an unannounced appearance at Oslo's famed Inferno festival. Following the performance, the band announced additional concerts that would include a visit to America; marking the second trip to the States in the band's legendary career. Fans flocked to New York City and Los Angeles to witness the sold-out performances. In 2007, additional shows would see the band return to the U.S. for a repeat performance in New York City, a stop in Chicago, and what would be their final American performance in Los Angeles.
In a May 2012 interview with Gun Shy Assassin, Ihsahn stated about the possibility of more EMPEROR live performances in the future: "After 2007, that was really a final chapter for all of us. But there's always some underlying pressure to do something. Usually, I just say plain 'No.' I can understand the nostalgia and all that. If I wanted to be as nostalgic as everyone else, it wouldn't make any sense for me to actually make any new music [with my solo project] ."
He added: "People who are old-time EMPEROR fans still think I'm 17.
"I am in contact with the guys, and we talk almost weekly; they're good friends. What can I say? Never say never. For the moment, I am so occupied with my own project — that's my main priority."
Ihsahn said he left EMPEROR because he wanted different things.
"I ended up doing most of that last EMPEROR record on my own. If we still did EMPEROR, and if it were up to me, what I do now… that's what we would sound like."
But there will be no new music from EMPEROR, Ihsahn said.
"Part of the reason why our albums keep on selling is probably because we were always an uncompromising band, and that is a tradition I would like to uphold. If we did a new EMPEROR album, what kind of EMPEROR album would people like? I say listen to the stuff I do, and the stuff that Samoth does, and you can more or less figure out what a new EMPEROR record would sound like, and that sounds nothing like old EMPEROR. Trying to duplicate something from the past would just turn everything into a parody.
"Would anyone want a black metal album made just for the sake of making a lot of money?" Ihsahn asked. "I get all of these requests to get back with EMPEROR. In the spirit of black metal, I do whatever the hell I want. That's the whole point of black metal. If I even consider letting anyone else try to tell me what I should do with my music, that, by definition, would make it non-black metal… as I have learned it."

PINKISH BLACK - Razed To The Ground Album Out September 17th; Details Revealed
PINKISH BLACK's first incarnation arose in Fort Worth, TX, when 2005 saw a trio of like-minded souls connect under the banner of THE GREAT TYRANT and set about hewing a new definition for the word "heavy". Following the tragic passing of original bass player Tommy Atkins, the remaining duo forged ahead, morphing into an even darker macabre entity. Now comprised of drummer Jon Teague and Daron Beck on vocals and synthesizer, the band go under the new moniker Pinkish Black.
"Jon and I have been playing music for over two decades," Beck comments. "The whole process of getting to this point in our lives and our music has been very much a repeating cycle of building to inevitably tear down to build again to tear down and so on... it's how all life is. Building, destroying, building, destroying..."
Razed To The Ground, out September 17th via Century Media Records, was recorded and mixed by the band and Matt Bernhart at The Echo Lab, and was mastered to ominous perfection by James Plotkin. The songs themselves pierce the same vein as the band's earlier material; death rock, post-punk, doom, and electronic elements slither over and under one another.
Tracklisting:
'She Left Him Red'
'Ashtray Eyes'
'Kites And Vultures'
'Razed To The Ground'
'Bad Dreamer'
'Rise'
'Loss Of Feeling Of Loss'
Pinkish Black lineup:
Jon Teague - Drums, Synth, Loops
Daron Beck - Vocals, Keyboard, Synth

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH: Fan-Filmed Footage Of Tampa Concert
Fan-filmed video footage of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's July 31 performance in Tampa, Florida as part of this summer's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival can be seen below.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's fourth studio album, "The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell Volume 1", is likely to sell between 95,000 and 105,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on July 30 via Prospect Park.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's third album, "American Capitalist", opened with 91,000 units back in October 2011 to land at position No. 3 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's sophomore CD, "War Is The Answer", registered a first-week tally of 44,000 back in September 2009 to debut at No. 7. The CD followed up FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's 2007 debut, "The Way Of The Fist", which has sold more than 616,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
"The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell Volume 1" is the first half of a two-record set, with the second half due to arrive sometime this fall. Zoltan Bathory told The Pulse Of Radio that the idea for a two-record set surfaced after the band finished its writing sessions for the project with around 25 songs. "Generally you pick your best 12 and the rest of them become bonus tracks and this and that, or you keep it for next record, whatever," he said. "But you know, when we tried to take away songs, we realized, no, no, no, we don't want to take this one or that one. And when we went to the label, they said the same thing: 'Well, keep 11.' And so we were like, 'OK, well, here's 25, you pick it,' and they couldn't pick it either. So we were like, 'OK, now this is gonna be a double record.' That's how pretty much that happened."
The first single, "Lift Me Up", is currently the No. 1 track at Active Rock radio. The song features guest vocals from JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford.
The new CD also features guest appearances from IN THIS MOMENT singer Maria Brink, SOULFLY frontman Max Cavalera, HATEBREED vocalist Jamey Jasta and rapper Tech N9ne.
Once Mayhem is finished, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will kick off its own headlining North American trek on September 15 at the Aftershock festival in Sacramento, California.

Video: PHILIP ANSELMO Performs PANTERA, SUPERJOINT RITUAL In Des Moines
Fan-filmed video footage of former DOWN singer Philip Anselmo dusting off several tracks from his previous bands PANTERA and SUPERJOINT RITUAL on Friday, August 2 at Wooly's in Des Moines, Iowa at the second show of first-ever solo tour, dubbed "Technicians Of Distortion", can be seen below.
Anselmo's career-first solo album, "Walk Through Exits Only", sold around 8,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 35 on The Billboard 200 chart.
Produced by Anselmo and Michael Thompson, and recorded over the past couple of years at Philip's New Orleans studio, Nodferatu's Lair, with his band THE ILLEGALS — guitarist Marzi Montazeri (ex-SUPERJOINT RITUAL) and drummer José Manuel Gonzales (WARBEAST) — "Walk Through Exits Only" is abrasive, aggressive, anthemic and 100% Anselmo. The album's eight songs are as unstrained as it gets, from "Battalion Of Zero" to "Usurper's Bastard Rant", to the album's title track that goes against the grain and right through the exits. Brash, brutal guitars cut through punishing percussion as Anselmo screams with uncompromising ferocity and uncontainable fire.
Even though "Walk Through Exits Only" has just been released, Anselmo tells Billboard.com that he is planning on making more new music available before the end of the year.
"I know for a fact I do have two songs that I'll release strictly for the upcoming Housecore Horror (film) festival at the end of October in Austin, Texas," Anselmo says. "Those two songs, I think, musically flow together pretty fuckin' well. They're very sarcastic, very tongue-in-cheek. It's all part of the ol' Philip Anselmo fucked-up world — and I don't mean drunk or wasted. I mean just fuckin' crazy. It's crazy around here!"
According to Anselmo, he worked on an estimated 15-17 songs for "Walk Through Exits Only", which was issued via his own Housecore Records (MRI/Megaforce)
"I could've put on any number (of songs) I wanted, but for me, these eight songs all together, 40-something minutes, that's my idea of a proper listening length," he tells Billboard.com. "When you start to get longer it gets a little redundant and boring, and I didn't want to bore anybody." | 0
