SOULFLY: 'Savages' Cover Artwork Unveiled
SOULFLY's ninth album, "Savages", will be released on October 4 via the band's new label home, Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The CD was produced by Terry Date, who is known for his work with such acts as PANTERA, DEFTONES and SOUNDGARDEN, among many others. Guest vocal appearances on "Savages" include SOULFLY bass player Tony Campos, frontman Max Cavalera's son Igor Cavalera (LODY KONG), CLUTCH's Neil Fallon, NAPALM DEATH's Mitch Harris and Jamie Hanks of I DECLARE WAR.
"Savages" will be released as a limited-edition digpack CD, 2LP vinyl and digital download.
"Savages" track listing:
01. Bloodshed (feat. Igor Cavalera)
02. Cannibal Holocaust
03. Fallen (feat. Jamie Hanks)
04. Ayatollah Of Rock ‘N’ Rolla (feat. Neil Fallon)
05. Master Of Savagery
06. Spiral
07. This Is Violence
08. K.C.S. (feat. Mitch Harris)
09. El Comegente (feat. Tony Campos)
10. Soulfliktion
Limited-edition CD and 2LP vinyl bonus tracks:
11. Fuck Reality
12. Soulfly IX
The cover artwork for "Savages" was created by renowned artist Paul Stottler, who is best known for his work on SACRED REICH's legendary "Surf Nicaragua" cover.
Date previously mixed SOULFLY's "3" (2002), "Prophecy" (2004) and "Dark Ages" (2005) albums, but had never produced any of the group's CDs.
The drum tracks on the new SOULFLY CD were laid down by Max's 21-year-old son, Zyon Cavalera, who joined the band as its touring drummer for its recent rampage through North America.
Zyon previously played with SOULFLY during the band's tour of Brazil in February 2012.
It is Zyon's unborn heartbeat that can be heard during the intro of SEPULTURA's classic song "Refuse/Resist", which appeared on the band's RIAA-gold-certified "Chaos A.D." album, released three years before Max's departure from the group.
Commented Max Cavalera: "Recording 'Savages' was an amazing experience for me. I was so excited to work with Terry Date, whom I consider to be one of the best producers of all time. He has done some great records and we have been in contact for awhile since he mixed three SOULFLY albums in the past. He came to see SOULFLY whenever we played in Seattle, and we finally made it work that he would be the producer for 'Savages'.
"My teammates were awesome. Marc [Rizzo, guitar] did some crazy guitar noises and we did a 'Mars Part Two' at the end of 'El Comegente'; it's very LED ZEPPELIN-influenced and Marc kicked some ass on it.
"I wrote 'El Comegente' with Tony Campos. It's in Portuguese and Spanish and it's about Vargas — a Venezuelan cannibal from the '80s. He is the Hannibal Lecter of the Andes. Crazy shit!
"I worked for the first time on a full album with my son, Zyon. Before recording the album I first worked closely at home with him in preproduction, and it was great to spend weeks on the songs with Zyon, shaping the sound of the record.
"Zyon did a great job and he hits really hard just like his uncle Igor.
"It was amazing recording with my son. A whole record! A dream come true for a father whose life is dedicated to metal. 'Savages' is a celebration of all that."
Igor Cavalera (LODY KONG): "I was super pumped when I got the call to add vocals to 'Bloodshed'. It's badass that Nuclear Blast chose it as the first single."
Jamie Hanks (I DECLARE WAR): "It was pretty incredible working with heavy metal legends like Max and all of SOULFLY."
Neil Fallon (CLUTCH): "I am stoked to have been asked by Max to participate on the 'Ayatollah Of Rock 'N' Rolla' track!
"Max brought CLUTCH out on some of our earliest and most formative tours and this brought back some very fond memories of singing with Max all those years ago."
Mitch Harris (NAPALM DEATH): "It was an honor for me to finally collaborate on a song with Max and Co. It's something we've been talking about for the last 9 years.
"I've always felt like part of the Cavalera extended family, and for me it was a truly uplifting, comforting and memorable experience after say 26 years or so. We ran through all the takes together, trying to capture the carnal energy, the push and pull between force and action. Friction, charisma, and something true directing the sole intent of the message, that was my general angle on it.
"Art and expression are about capturing the moment, the essence of a connection between like-minded souls, expanding on concise ideas that start small and end up big."
Tony Campos (SOULFLY): "Getting to share vocals with Max on 'El Comegente' was great. The song was coming along so quick, I pretty much wrote lyrics for that on the spot. I showed Max a couple of different things and used the stuff he thought was cool and made him laugh."
Drummer David Kinkade (BORKNAGAR, ARSIS, MALEVOLENT CREATION), who played on SOULFLY's eighth album, "Enslaved", left the band last October in order to focus on his personal life.

CANDLEMASS Mainman's AVATARIUM Signs With NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS
AVATARIUM, the new project led by Leif Edling, founding bassist and main songwriter of Swedish doom metal legends CANDLEMASS, has inked a deal with Nuclear Blast.
AVATARIUM's first release will be a 12-inch mini-LP, "Moonhorse", featuring the title track, the B-side "Boneflower" as well as an acoustic cover version of BLACK SABBATH's "War Pigs". It will arrive on on September 20.
In addition to Edling, AVATARIUM features Marcus Jindell (ROYAL HUNT, EVERGREY) on guitar, Lars Sköld (TIAMAT) on drums, Carl Westholm on keyboards and Jennie-Ann Smith on vocals.
Commented Edling: "AVATARIUM are so happy to sign with Nuclear Blast!
"We would like to take our music out to the world and no one does it better than Nuclear Blast.
"AVATARIUM has only been around for about eight months, so we are thrilled to begin the mix of our first album and bring our special dark/heavy/poetic metal music to the masses.
"We love what we do with AVATARIUM and it's an honor for us to join the Nuclear family!"
Added Nuclear Blast A&R manager Jaap Wagemaker: "Nuclear Blast is very stoked to announce the return of Leif 'The Master Of Doom' Edling to the Nuclear family! We already had the pleasure of working with Leif and CANDLEMASS in the past, which was a great honor, as we have been fans of his doom metal since he started making music with NEMESIS, and we have followed him afterwards with all his other bands, like CANDLEMASS, ABSTRAKT ALGEBRA and KRUX! We were all ears when he contacted us saying that he had founded a new band called AVATARIUM! As soon as we heard the music, we fell in love with it; [it contains] great melodies and riffs the way only Leif can write them and the angelic vocals by Jennie!
"Leif did it again!
"We are very happy to welcome AVATARIUM to the Nuclear family. We simply can't wait for you to listen to this amazing new band!"
AVATARIUM is:
Leif Edling: Bass
Jennie-Ann Smith: Vocals
Marcus Jidell: Guitar
Lars Sköld: Drums
Carl Westholm: Keyboards | +1

MY RUIN: 'Moriendo Renascor' Video Released
"Moriendo Renascor", the new video from MY RUIN — the Los Angeles-based band featuring the husband-and-wife rock duo of vocalist Tairrie B. Murphy and multi-instrumentalist Mick Murphy — can be seen below. The song comes off the group's eighth full-length album, "The Sacred Mood", which was released on June 11 via TuneCore, Bandcamp, iTunes and Amazon. The CD recorded in August 2012 at Soundtrack Black Studio in East Tennessee.
Tairrie previously stated about "The Sacred Mood": "In an industry that is ever-changing, we're not a band who pays attention to the current trends. We've found our sound and we simply do what we do while staying true to our roots. I think our fans appreciate our integrity and we appreciate our fans.
"We offered the last album as a free download where people could donate to the band if they wanted and it was a great success, but we are taking a different approach with our new album, which we are self-releasing once again. Unfortunately, we have learned over time that most record labels are not for us and we seem to do better on our own as a DIY independent band, which is what we always have been, today more than ever with our eighth album, 'The Sacred Mood', as a testament to our staying power.
"The atmosphere of the new album is heavily drenched in the heat of the South, where it was recorded and fueled by insomnia-filled nights in Los Angeles where it was written. The cover was designed with this in mind by a talented Manchester, U.K.-based artist and illustrator named Kayleigh Brookes, who also happens to be a longtime fan of the band. The art that goes with the album is very different than anything we've previously done before. We decided to use real elements of nature mixed with iconic illustrations to create something unique to MY RUIN that would go with the otherworldly language of the lyrics. We wanted an ethereal image for the cover and chose the moon for the background because we felt it evoked the mood of the album as a whole. The image was actually inspired by a photograph which was taken by Tor Burrows, who has worked with me creating music videos for MY RUIN's last two albums. I really enjoy working with Tor on our videos and being that I have always worked alone when designing the artwork for many of our previous recordings, I thought it would be an interesting change to collaborate with someone on this side of things.
"We are releasing 'The Sacred Mood' digitally and designing a unique hardcover print and e-book to accompany it. Included in the book [are] photographic images and illustrations of the band, lyrics, musings, a few short stories and original art pieces. This is something I have wanted to do for a long time and our new album has given me the perfect opportunity to make it happen." | 0

Video: LACUNA COIL Performs In Vietnam For First Time
Fan-filmed video footage of LACUNA COIL performing its very first show in Vietnam at Crescent Resident, Phu My Hung, D7, Ho Chi Minh City on July 20 July, 2013.can be seen below.
LACUNA COIL's latest album, "Dark Adrenaline", sold around 20,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 15 on The Billboard 200 chart. It marked the band's second CD with producer Don Gilmore (LINKIN PARK, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE) at the helm.
"We changed producers on our last album, 'Shallow Life', and we wanted to work with Don," singer Cristina Scabbia told KNAC.COM. "I think that we wanted to change producers mainly to see what we could do with a different person. A producer is much like a teacher and we wanted to learn something new and we found that our goals and Don's were much the same. When listening to 'Dark Adrenaline', I can say that there is so much different. We are more experienced now and more confident in our sound and we get inspired to try to do more with each new record."
Asked about LACUNA COIL's approach to having two lead singers — Scabbia and Andrea Ferro — Cristina told Metal Sucks: "I think having two singers — one male and one female — gives you the opportunity to do something different. My voice might be more dreamy and angelic and nice, and Andrea's is more aggressive than mine. Of course, we are a man and a woman singing together. We don't sit down and think about how to share the parts. It comes out really naturally. To our ears, it's really easy to pick out what sounds better. There are parts that are better if he sings it, and the other way around, just the opposite. Sometimes I can write parts for him that he will sing, and he writes parts that I will sing on the actual final recording. We don't think too much about that. We don't want to force anyone to eat two meals at the same time. [laughs] We just treat our voices like two instruments that we can add to the composition. It doesn't really matter who sings what." | 0

ASKING ALEXANDRIA: 'Run Free' Video Released
The live video for the song "Run Free" from the British metalcore act ASKING ALEXANDRIA can be seen below. Filmed at the band's sold-out January 19 show at Brixton O2 Academy in London, England, the clip gives fans a taste of what’s to come from ASKING ALEXANDRIA's third album, "From Death To Destiny", which will be released on August 6 via Sumerian Records. The CD was recorded with renowned producer Joey Sturgis (THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, EMMURE).
Most of the new CD was tracked at Sturgis' studio in Indiana, while the vocals and strings and choir parts were laid down at NRG Recording Studios in North Hollywood, California.
"It's taken long enough!" ASKING ALEXANDRIA guitarist Ben Bruce told Metal Hammer magazine. "It wasn't because we were being lazy, but because we wanted it to be perfect. 'From Death To Destiny' is our third album and we wanted to make sure we'd bring out the best possible record we could."
He continued: "This is our biggest sounding record and alongside the classic ASKING ALEXANDRIA stuff — the breakdown sections, heavy sections, fast sections — we've thrown a lot of new influences in there. It's a very diverse album and I think people who pigeonholed us are going to realize they were wrong when they hear it."
ASKING ALEXANDRIA is:
Danny Worsnop - Vocals
Ben Bruce - Guitar
Cameron Liddell - Guitar
Sam Bettley - Bass
James Cassells - Drums

DEATH RAY VISION: 'Break Every Chain' Lyric Video Available
The official lyric video for the 31-second song "Break Every Chain" from DEATH RAY VISION — the project featuring SHADOWS FALL frontman Brian Fair, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE bassist Mike D'Antonio and former OVERCAST/SEEMLESS guitarist Pete Cortese — can be seen below. The track comes off DEATH RAY VISION's debut album, "We Ain't Leavin' Till You're Bleedin'", which will be released on September 10 via Bullet Tooth. These veterans of the Boston metal scene play a raw brand of metallic hardcore that recaptures the energy of their old-school hardcore roots infused with all they have learned and experienced as musicians over the past decade. Produced by legendary hardcore guru Dean Baltulonis, who has helmed albums for SICK OF IT ALL, AGNOSTIC FRONT, MADBALL and MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD, these new songs are short blasts of energy and intensity built on thrash metal rhythms and chugging guitar riffs.
"It's a swift 30-minute kick to the nuts. No fucking around and right to the point," says Fair.
You say you like circle pits? You say you like punk and hardcore? You say you hate your parents? Well this is the band for you! Pissed off and abrasive, DEATH RAY VISION is dedicated to that old-school passion and aggression you still crave.
If you're a fan of CRO-MAGS, LEEWAY, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES or BAD BRAINS, then look no further. Without fail, DEATH RAY VISION delivers uppercuts straight to your gullet, then repeatedly peppers your forehead with sledgehammer fists. That's right, the beatings are swift and pummeling on this record, with two-minute anthems of ruckus chaos, party jams. The perfect soundtrack to set the city a blaze, or discreetly create a mosh pit in your bedroom.
"We Ain't Leavin' Till You're Bleedin'" track listing:
01. We Ain't Leavin' Till You're Bleedin'
02. Over My Dead Body
03. Barfly
04. Condemned When You Were Born
05. Fuck Compromise
06. Live Fast… Never Die
07. Break Every Chain
08. This Is Progress
09. Choke
10. Your Shallow Grave
11. False Prophet
12. A Forest (Of Kegs)
DEATH RAY VISION made its live debut on April 8, 2011 at the Vegas Lounge in Lunenburg, Massachusetts.
Regarding how the band came together, Fair said, "When Mike and I first met, we went to see LEEWAY and BREAKDOWN play in Boston. My love for raw, metallic hardcore began that day and the energy and insanity in that club is something that has stayed with me forever."
"We started the band to have fun, there is really no other reason to do DEATH RAY VISION," stated Mike. "Apparently we were having so much fun when we started writing for the first EP that we just kept writing and writing. All of a sudden, we had a crapload of tunes."
While gathering material for a full-length release, DEATH RAY VISION caught the attention of Bullet Tooth, a label that has a staff with very similar backgrounds and history in the heavy music scene as the band. Having a label that embraces the same DIY ethic as the band was a necessity. Joining forces with Bullet Tooth was the perfect way for DEATH RAY VISION to reach a wider audience without having to sacrifice the independent spirit of the band.
"Josh Grabelle and Bullet Tooth have the capacity to get our record out to more people then we can reach on our own," explained D'Antonio. "It also doesn't hurt that he is an old friend and is really excited about DEATH RAY VISION. What more could you want?"
Grabelle is as enthusiastic about the signing as the band is. He's known the members for years, having almost signed KILLSWITCH ENGAGE in 2000.
"I'm a huge fan of SHADOWS FALL, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and OVERCAST," he said.
"I first met Brian Fair in 1995 at an OVERCAST show in Erie, Pennsylvania. I've been friends with Mike D for years as well. Mike D told me he had started a new band and I already knew it was gonna be awesome, and it was! I was honored they thought of me and Bullet Tooth and I know we will knock it out of the park together."
According to D'Antonio, the DEATH RAY VISION songs "are much easier to write than KILLSWITCH ENGAGE songs for me, and I can be a bit more old-school in my approach. This style comes very natural to me because I grew up on CRO-MAGS, AGNOSTIC FRONT, MADBALL, LEEWAY and BAD BRAINS. When I want to write, I throw these inspirations on and get to it."
DEATH RAY VISION is:
Brian Fair - Vocals
Mike D'Antonio - Bass
Pete Cortese - Guitar
Zack Wells - Guitar
Colin Conway - Drums | 0 | |

KORN To Release 'Never Never' Single Next Month
KORN will release its 11th studio album, titled "The Paradigm Shift", on October 1. The disc is the first to feature original guitarist Brian "Head" Welch since 2003's "Take A Look In The Mirror". With a single nearly ready to drop in two weeks, singer Jonathan Davis told The Pulse Of Radio what the experience was like having Welch back in the studio, making this record extra special.
"'Untouchables' used to be my favorite, but this one's mine now," he said. "You know, it's just all those years of work and being able to be in a band this long with the guys. And having Head back bringing, you know, that ole chemistry back with him with Munky [guitarist James Shaffer] on the rock side and I was on the electronic side. It was good having the compromise on both sides. It was just good for the creative process, I think."
The album's first single, "Never Never", drops August 12.
"The Paradigm Shift" track listing:
01. Prey For Me
02. Love & Meth
03. What We Do
04. Spike In My Veins
05. Mass Hysteria
06. Paranoid And Aroused
07. Never Never
08. Punishment Time
09. Lullaby For A Sadist
10. Victimized
11. It's All Wrong
12. Wish I Wasn’t Born Today (bonus track on deluxe edition)
13. Tell Me What You Want (bonus track on deluxe edition)
The deluxe version of "The Paradigm Shift" will contain two bonus tracks and a 60-minute documentary chronicling Head's return to the band produced by the band's behind the scenes "filmographer" Sebastien Paquet.
In 2014, KORN will celebrate their 20th anniversary as recording artists.
Davis also revealed that he is doing just fine after discontinuing the use of anti-anxiety medicine he had been taking for many years.
KORN is set to appear on the cover of an upcoming issue of Revolver later this fall.
The band will be performing on August 6 in Sturgis, South Dakota at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and Festival.

Cuba's First Heavy Metal Band To Defect: 'We Didn't Expect Things To Happen The Way They Did'
HIPNOSIS guitarist/vocalist Giovany Milhet spoke to Miami New Times about the Cuban heavy metal band's decision to request political asylum after arriving in Miami last Monday morning (July 22).
According to Milhet, he and his bandmates declared political asylum as they were waiting in line with the representative from the Cuban government that was traveling with them.
"It was a very difficult thing [requesting asylum]," Milhet said. "We didn't expect things to happen the way they did. We made the decision because the girl [from the Cuban government] who came with us was very uncomfortable. When we arrived at the airport in Miami, she told us: 'You can't go out of the airport, or the police will arrest you.'
"What the fuck, man? She tried to put all of us in fear," Milhet said. "You'd have to be stupid to believe that."
Ramiro Pupo, the lead singer of the six-member band, was the first HIPNOSIS musician to seek asylum, explaining that his daughter already lives in Miami.
"Once we saw that we all decided to follow," bassist Fanny Tachin told AFP.
Two members of the group weren't travelling with their bandmates when they touched down in the United States: singer Maylin Ruiz is currently in Spain, and keyboardist Glencys Toro is already in Oklahoma visiting family, according to the Miami New Times.
HIPNOSIS was founded in Marianao, La Habana in 2001, and rose to fame in Cuba in 2004 with the release of its debut album "The Chosen One". The band's style combines elements of metal, gothic and grunge sounds.
A number of Cuban artists and athletes have defected from Cuba over the past few years. In 2008, seven members of the Cuban Olympic soccer team decided to stay after their game against the U.S. team in Florida. Cuban ballet dancer Rolando Sarabia also defected in 2005. | 0

DEPRECATED: 'Deriding His Creation' Title Track Available For Streaming
"Deriding His Creation", the title track of the new album from DEPRECATED, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. The CD will be re-released on October 1 via Unique Leader Records.
Cast from members of the mighty SUFFOCATION, DECREPIT BIRTH and DISGORGE, DEPRECATED is the embodiment of agonizing brutality.
While the solid foundation of original members AJ Magaña, Derek Boyer and Torrey Moores oversees the composition of DEPRECATED's material, the addition of Terrence Hobbs and Matt Sotelo fuse to be one of death metals more formidable string sections to date. Terrence and Matt, being of polar opposite styles in their respective bands, bring their influential talents and unyielding ferocity together with that of DEPRECATED's old-school approach to exploit and pulverize ones adrenal gland in its vice.
After the tracks for the "Deriding His Creation" re-release were recorded, the final piece was to be put in place by utilizing one of the industry's top engineers to ensure the albums message was clearly stated. Zack Ohren of Castle Ultimate studios, known for engineering releases for bands such as SUICIDE SILENCE, SEVERED SAVIOR, DECREPIT BIRTH, SUFFOCATION, IMMOLATION and SIX FEET UNDER, just to mention a few, brings the over indulgent aggression of DEPRECATED's music to a mirrored finish ensuring fans of all that is heavy to question the direction that death metal has so unfortunately taken. | 0

STAR & DAGGER: 'Freak Train' Video Released
"Freak Train", the new video from STAR & DAGGER, the blues-rock/metal group made up of good friends Sean Yseult (WHITE ZOMBIE), Dava She Wolf (CYCLE SLUTS FROM HELL), Dave Catching (EAGLES OF DEATH METAL), Gene Trautmann (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE), and the sublime vocalist Von Hesseling, can be seen below. The clip is made up of live live footage of STAR & DAGGER's recent tour of England and showcases the live show that the band will be delivering in the U.S. on its tour dates in early August. The entire video was shot with GoPro cameras by Chris Lee, and edited by Todd Perley.
STAR & DAGGER will release a full-length album, "Tomorrowland Blues", on July 23 via Cauldron 333, distributed by MRI. The CD was recorded at Rancho de la Luna, produced by Ethan Allen and Dave Catching, and mastered by Jay Yuenger (WHITE ZOMBIE).
STAR & DAGGER was formed with auspicious beginnings: Sean and Dava were drinking late one night with the legendary Lenny Kaye (noted rock journalist and founder member of the PATTI SMITH group) and he declared: "You two must start a band, I see it!" They took his word and set to it. The band layers dense guitars onto a heavy groove, strung together by Von's towering vocals, which have the soul and presence of Tina Turner crossed with Cherie Currie.
STAR & DAGGER attracted much attention, selling out its first show in Los Angeles and opening for HIGH ON FIRE, HELMET, EAGLES OF DEATH METAL, DOWN and SAINT VITUS. They performed at the 2012 Voodoo festival and have plans for more shows on the West Coast.
STAR & DAGGER's first recording emerged a few months ago, a 12-inch vinyl titled "In My Blood".
In a recent interview with New Noise Magazine, Dava She Wolf stated about how STAR & DAGGER came together: "STAR & DAGGER emanated from friendship and kept growing from there. I knew Sean back in the day. She was my neighbor, in fact, and she was always the nicest, friendliest, and coolest person. To be playing guitar with her is, needless to say, a great honor. It raises the bar considerably for me, as does playing with the awesome Dave Catching, our magnificent drummer Gene Trautmann and another talented great friend, our vocalist Von Hesseling.
"The band has come together in a very organic way and we all are enjoying ourselves while making music together. You can’t ask for much more than that.
"We all have unique histories with different backgrounds, which I guess helps make for an interesting story. Our fans have been welcoming and wonderful to us, as have been some of the bands that we've been privileged to open for, such as DOWN, SAINT VITUS, HELMET, HIGH ON FIRE, EAGLES OF DEATH METAL and others. We especially had a fun time filming our video for the song 'Your Mama Was A Grifter', which we recorded at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree. It is a mashup of 'Faster Pussycat Kill Kill', 'Night Of The Hunter' with a little 'Cleopatra' thrown in, directed by visual master and bona fide daredevil Art Haynie. We had an absolute blast making it."
Speaking to ASCAP.com, Yseult stated about STAR & DAGGER's musical direction: "I'm sure the Joshua Tree vibe seeped into our recordings; it's inevitable. But the riffs were all written in New Orleans and New York — it's a big reason I wanted to work with Donna, because her riffs and guitar style were so heavy but more in a '70s blues way than heavy metal, which is what I really like. I've always been influenced by BLACK SABBATH as far as my riffs and songwriting, and have been friends and fans of bands like KYUSS and MONSTER MAGNET since touring together back when I was in WHITE ZOMBIE. Donna's sound reminds me of Ace Frehley (KISS) at times, and early AEROSMITH at others — I just feel like we have a definite '70s heavy blues thing going, and we're happy to keep company with our friends in the desert who also appreciate that sound."
Asked if she feels any pressure, whether from herself or from the outside, to reach the same heights as that of WHITE ZOMBIE, Yseult said: "For me, I don't think it's possible for rock bands to reach the heights WHITE ZOMBIE reached back in the day. Not many rock bands are selling out arenas and traveling with five tour buses and three or four semis anymore, so it would be pretty unrealistic for me to think in those terms. I find it hilarious that both WHITE ZOMBIE and CYCLE SLUTS' greatest fame were both due to Beavis and Butthead — maybe now that they are back together, Donna and I should go and court them — at least we are still making music they would like!" | 0

TESTAMENT Vinyl Reissues Due In September
Two titles by San Francisco Bay Area metal veterans TESTAMENT will be released on vinyl on September 24, shortly before the group kicks off its tour of North America alongside LAMB OF GOD and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE.
The 2001 anthology "First Strike Still Deadly" features tracks from TESTAMENT's iconic first two Megaforce/Atlantic albums (which have sold in excess of 500,000 copies combined), re-recorded with modern technology by the four-fifths of group's original lineup. The album has never been available on vinyl until now. Approximately 400 copies will be issued on 180-gram black vinyl; a limited-edition, 180-gram clear vinyl mail-order exclusive (approximately 100 copies) will also be offered.
Originally released in 1990 in EP format on vinyl and cassette, and finally released in its entirety by Prosthetic in 2009, "Live At Eindhoven '87" — which captures TESTAMENT's legendary European coming-out party — will now be available on vinyl for the first time in its complete remastered form. In addition, the new LP layout — which features liner notes by guitarist Alex Skolnick — pays homage to the original EP artwork and includes never-before-seen pictures by noted photographer PG Brunelli. Approximately 400 copies will be 180-gram black vinyl; a limited-edition, 180-gram while vinyl mail-order exclusive (approx. 100 copies) will also be available.
Prosthetic's five TESTAMENT reissues are some of the label's top catalog titles, and the vinyl versions of "The Gathering" and "Demonic" have been sold out for years, so don't miss your chance to order these exciting chapters of thrash history.

BROKEN HOPE: 'Omen Of Disease' Cover Artwork Unveiled
Reformed Chicago death metallers BROKEN HOPE will release their sixth album, "Omen Of Disease", in October via Century Media Records. The drums for the CD were laid down at Belle City Sound in Racine, Wisconsin with engineer Chris Wisco (LAZARUS A.D., JUNGLE ROT, ORIGIN, GORGASM), while the remaining instruments were tracked at Mercenary Digital Studios in Zion, Illinois with engineer Scott Creekmore (DIRGE WITHIN, PUTRID PILE, LIVIDITY).
"Omen Of Disease" will feature a special guest appearance by Trevor Strnad of THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER on the new BROKEN HOPE track "Rendered Into Lard". The cover painting for the CD was created by world-renowned horror artist Wes Benscoter (SLAYER, CATTLE DECAPITATION, AUTOPSY, KREATOR).
Comments BROKEN HOPE guitarist Jeremy Wagner: "Wes Benscoter is one of my favorite artists, EVER. In my opinion, he's right up there with Frank Frazetta, Michael Whelan and Todd Schorr.
"Ever since Benscoter did our 'Repulsive Conception' and 'Loathing' album covers, I've wanted to work with him again. I was beyond thrilled when Benscoter agreed to take on the 'Omen Of Disease' project… and he nailed it! He's captured the vile essence, putrid vibe, and apocalyptic, disease-laden horror of 'Omen Of Disease'.
"Thank you for creating another masterpiece, Wes Benscoter."
BROKEN HOPE tapped James Murphy (DEATH, OBITUARY, TESTAMENT) to mix and master "Omen Of Disease" at Murphy's studio, Safehouse Production.
"Omen Of Disease" — a title conceived by chief lyricist and guitarist Jeremy Wagner — is also a song on the new album, marking the first BROKEN HOPE "title track" since their 1991 debut LP, "Swamped In Gore". Other songtitles set to appear on the CD include "The Flesh Mechanic" and "Give Me The Bottom Half".
Comments Wagner: "Some time ago, a festering death metal prophecy indicated something sick and brutal was coming back from the dead. The malignant signs became evident when BROKEN HOPE first resurrected from the grave and then went on tour. A more sinister foreboding followed when BROKEN HOPE wrote a new death metal album for the world to hear. Today, I'm a harbinger, here to alert everyone of a 'death metal omen' that is upon us...I speak of the new BROKEN HOPE album, 'Omen Of Disease'. The album title itself reeks of a musical offering that is nothing short of gruesome. 'Omen Of Disease' will be released to infect everyone worldwide this summer. I promise: this death metal album is a most savage, feral, pestilential, and lethal creation. You've been warned..."
BROKEN HOPE was formed in 1988 by Wagner, while he was in high school. Shortly after formation, they recorded two demo tapes and signed with indie label, Grind-Core Records. Then in 1991, they released their debut album, "Swamped In Gore", launching the band out of the underground and into the mainstream. From there, the band signed to Metal Blade Records and released three more albums, all stellar examples of BROKEN HOPE's fury, which etched their place in death-metal history.
After BROKEN HOPE's last album (1999's "Grotesque Blessings") and world tours, Wagner cleaned house and put BROKEN HOPE into "metal hibernation" in 2000. On January 20, 2010, original BROKEN HOPE vocalist Joe Ptacek tragically committed suicide. He was only 37 years old. Before his death, Ptacek met with Wagner and Glass and discussed the resurrection of BROKEN HOPE. With Ptacek's death, Wagner and Glass took time off to reconsider their next moves.
In 2012, BROKEN HOPE signed with Hard Impact Management and vowed to make BROKEN HOPE a full-time monster. Wagner and Glass recruited longtime friend and GORGASM vocalist Damian Leski as their new frontman and shortly after marked their return on the highly successful Carnival Of Death tour. BROKEN HOPE's high-intensity concerts received top praise, and confirmed the band was back and more rabid than ever.
BROKEN HOPE 2013 is:
Damian Leski - Vocals
Jeremy Wagner - Guitars
Shaun Glass - Bass
Chuck Wepfer - Lead Guitars
Mike Miczek - Drums

WARBRINGER To Release 'IV: Empires Collapse' In October
Los Angeles thrashers WARBRINGER will release their new album, "IV: Empires Collapse", on October 15 via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded at The Omen Room studio in Garden Grove, California with producer Steve Evetts (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SEPULTURA, SYMPHONY X). The next-level results of the new album are due to each band member pushing their own abilities and working together on the complex arrangements as well as the simple hooks.
"IV: Empires Collapse" is a collective work between the five band members and the producers. "Musically, all five of us brought something for the rest of the group to work off of and we were all a part of chiseling away at the ideas," says drummer Carlos Cruz of the recording process. "Having five band members with eclectic tastes in music from crust punk to progressive music and everything in between brought about new musical directions for the material."
WARBRINGER will hit the road in support of genre legends OVERKILL and KREATOR starting the night before Halloween in Baltimore and ending with two nights in New York City. | 0

ORBWEAVER To Release New EP This Week
Miami psychedelic noise conjurers ORBWEAVER are readying the release of their "Strange Transmissions From The Neuralnomicon" EP. A maniacal journey through modulating realities, the five-track mind eraser was recorded at Miami's Pinecrust Studios with Jonathan Nunez of TORCHE at the controls and mixed/mastered with Brian Elliott at Mana Recording Studios (HATE ETERNAL, CANNIBAL CORPSE, GOATWHORE, EXHUMED).
ORBWEAVER's tones spiral through the realms of psychedelia, noise, and a warped interpretation of death metal. Fluctuating between these erratic, trance-like elements, the foursome produce an eclectic sonic ruckus reminiscent of a Zappa-esque brand of controlled chaos.
"Strange Transmissions From The Neuralnomicon" will be unleashed August 2 in a limited run of 100 cassette tapes via Primitive Violence Records and on CD direct through the band.
"Strange Transmissions From The Neuralnomicon" track listing:
01. Xoxotic
02. Those Of Non-Being
03. Crystal Prisms
04. Tragic Orbit: A Doomed Cosmic Starship
05. The Church Warden Procedure
Fittingly dubbed "deranged, psychedelic death metal hurdling through space at speeds that make The Millennium Falcon look like your little sister's moped," by Orlandooom.com and, "a dissonant, warped interpretation of technical death metal, spliced with sheer blasts of chaotic noise and a mangled black-metal influence that claws its way to the surface halfway through," by Saltyeggs.com, ORBWEAVER was forged in 2010 by guitarist/vocalist Randy Piro (ex-HATE ETERNAL, GIGAN) and drummer Mike Pena. Together they recorded a self-titled, three-song demo. Shortly after, lead guitarist Sally Gates (ex-GIGAN) and bassist Jason Ledgard joined the fold. Mike Pena parted ways with the group in 2013, and was replaced by drummer/percussionist Scott Spasiano.
Coinciding with the unveiling of "Strange Transmissions From The Neuralnomicon", ORBWEAVER will bring its cosmic pandemonium to the live front on a short run of dates through the Sunshine State. Set to commence at Churchill's Pub in Miami on August 2, the band will twist the sound waves of Orlando, St. Petersburg, Jacksonville and Lake worth with addition dates being scheduled through the fall.
ORBWEAVER is:
Randy Piro - Guitars/Vocals/Effects
Sally Gates - Lead Guitar
Jason Ledgard - Bass
Scott Spasiano - Drums | 0

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA: '8:18' Track Listing, Cover Artwork Revealed
Roadrunner Records has set a September 17 release date for "8:18", the long-awaited new album from the Dayton, Ohio Christian metalcore band THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA.
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA officially unveiled the start of pre-orders for "8:18" with a direct video invitation to their fans around the world, streaming now at their official YouTube channel. All pre-orders at tdwpband.com receive instant free MP3 downloads of two new tracks, "Home For Grave" and "Martyrs". Pre-orders are also available now on the iTunes store.
"Martyrs", the first track/video from "8:18", had its premiere earlier today exclusively via RollingStone.com. Produced by THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, the clip was shot and edited by the band's own Jeremy DePoyster and Andy Trick.
Furthermore, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA have announced details of an upcoming North American headline tour. "The 8:18 Tour", which will see the band accompanied by THE GHOST INSIDE, VOLUMES and TEXAS IN JULY, gets underway November 2 in Detroit at the Royal Oak Music Theatre and continues through December 20, wrapping in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Tickets for all dates will be on sale August 2. Singer Mike Hranica commented: "We've loved playing two new songs over the course of this year, and with that being said we're really excited to debut more material live. For me, '8:18' is meant to reflect a live sense of vocals, so doing another headline tour like this is going to be excellent."
Long acclaimed as among one of the most potent and provocative bands in modern American metal, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA made a massive leap forward with the stunning "8:18". The album — executive-produced by KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's Adam Dutkiewicz and produced by the band along with producer/engineer Matt Goldman (UNDEROATH, THE CHARIOT) — sees the group driving its relentless sonic approach with more might than ever before, giving extreme power to frontman Mike Hranica's grim, emotional lyricism.
"8:18" track listing:
01. Gloom
02. Rumors
03. First Sight
04. War
05. 8:18
06. Sailor’s Prayer
07. Care More
08. Martyrs
09. Black & Blue
10. Transgress
11. Number Eleven
12. Home for Grave
13. In Heart
Asked how the new effort compares to 2011's "Dead Throne", Mike Hranica told Music Feeds: "I think it's kind of a totally new animal. It definitely is a very cohesive record. A lot of the times, I feel like we'll write songs and a lot of them are really cool songs and they'll all have kind of a theme, but sometimes they stray from that path of the theme that we originally intended. And I think that this album as a whole, it all sounds like the album, it all is a cohesive idea. Which, don't get me wrong — I don't mean to say that all the songs sound the same, because they definitely, each has their own unique personality. But as far as 'Dead Throne', our progression from 'Dead Throne', I definitely do think that this album is just a more mature record and has a lot more thought put into it. As always — we're always gonna put a little bit more effort and thought into the new record than our previous effort."
Back in January, Hranica told Loudwire about the songwriting process for the new album: "For me, I definitely feel a little bit of a carry-over from 'Dead Throne', particularly because it was a very cool record for me learning, for me learning to write better and that was working with a new [producer] … working with Adam for the first time and having [A DAY TO REMEMBER's] Jeremy McKinnon working on some of the songs with us, and I feel I took a lot from that. On 'Dead Throne', there were better vocal parts and everything was more cohesive and understandable and made for better song structure and everything and that had had a big impact on me creatively and so it's definitely carried over into this."
He added: "Conceptually, the concepts of 'Dead Throne' didn't carry over. I feel like that would be repetitive and monotonous to keep going at the same subject matter, but obviously, it all comes from the same place and I can say that nothing got more happy or uplifting, really. So I think it's very much THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, but also it's got a bit of freshness and originality to it and I think that even musically we started approaching the songs differently. Like, this song could be more like this and working off of a base we never really worked off of before."
"Dead Throne" sold 32,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 10 on The Billboard 200 chart.

MERIDIAN DAWN: 'Iconic' Lyric Video Released
The official lyric video for the song "Iconic" from MERIDIAN DAWN, the new American / Finnish / Belgian melodic death metal band featuring vocalist Antony Hämäläinen (NERVOSIA, ex-NIGHTRAGE) and drummer Johan Nunez (FIREWIND, NIGHTRAGE, SUICIDE OF DEMONS), can be seen below. The clip was created and directed by Niklas Sundin of DARK TRANQUILLITY and Cabin Fever Media.
MERIDIAN DAWN is working on its self-titled debut album for a tentative late 2013/early 2014 release.
Hämäläinen, Nunez and guitarist Brandon Johnson recorded a plethora of demos from the summer of 2010 until the winter of 2013. The band's lineup was completed in late 2012 by bassist Nick Ziros (INTO THE MOAT, REMEMBERING NEVER) and guitarist Christopher Jon (ex-WHITE WIZZARD, REMEMBERING NEVER).
In January 2013, Johan entered Ear We Go Studio in Luxembourg with engineer François Dediste to record the drums for MERIDIAN DAWN's debut self-titled album.
In March 2013, the rest of the band constructed a studio at Hämäläinen's Arizona home to record the rest of the CD. After the sessions, the material was sent to producer Daniel Antonsson (DARK TRANQUILITY, DIMENSION ZERO, SOILWORK) for mixing and mastering at his Gothenburg Rock Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The MERIDIAN DAWN track "Dressed In Ice", which features a guest appearance by Jake E. of AMARANTHE, can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below. | 0

NEWSTED: 'Long Time Dead' Song Available For Free Download
"Long Time Dead", a brand new song from NEWSTED — the band featuring former METALLICA, VOIVOD and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM bassist Jason Newsted and STAIND guitarist Mike Mushok — is available for free download at Twitmusic.com. It can also be streamed below. The track comes off NEWSTED's debut album, "Heavy Metal Music", which will be released on August 6 in North America via Chophouse Records/Collective Sounds and August 5 in Europe through Spinefarm Records. Jason told Billboard.com the 11-song album will be very similar to the band's debut EP, "Metal", which sold around 6,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 62 on The Billboard 200 chart. "The EP was always intended to be the primer, a sampler of what was to come on the LP," he said. "It's all metal all the time. It's not all fast, but it is all heavy."
Regarding how the material for NEWSTED's debut album came together, Jason told Loudwire: "It started out as my seeds for the first eleven songs that I made on my GarageBand thing. I wrote all the tracks — guitars, bass, drums, everything and gave them to Jessie [Farnsworth, guitar] and Jesus [Mendez Jr., drums] and had them go learn it, put their artistry on it and so it was collaborative in that way for the first batch. Like the four songs on the EP came from that initial eleven, so that's how those songs went. Each day as we get deeper into the songs, the collaboration gets deeper as well. I have come a long way from my tunnel vision of 'Only my ideas are good enough' bullshit, and I'm a lot more open to everyone's ideas and the artistry of each person to make it what it is. And three heads is better than one and that kind of thing. So it has become more collaborative as we go. I've written ten more since that time in October last year and a few of them have made their way onto this LP now. Once again, they were all my seeds, but now that we have Mike Mushok in the band and I give the music to all three of those guys, now I have three great artists bringing back their responses and their counterpoint playing to my ideas, so it's becoming more and more collaborative every day and on this LP there will be shared writing credits on at least half of the songs with the writing credits now."
NEWSTED is taking part in this year's edition of Gigantour, the critically acclaimed package festival founded in 2005 by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. Also appearing on the bill are headliners MEGADETH, along with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, DEVICE, HELLYEAH and DEATH DIVISION.
NEWSTED was forced to miss last week's Gigantour dates in Canada after Jason was diagnosed with "walking pneumonia."

IRON MAIDEN: More Behind-The-Scenes Footage From 'Maiden England World Tour 2013'
A new 10-minute video clip featuring behind-the-scenes footage from IRON MAIDEN's "Maiden England World Tour 2013" can be seen below.
IRON MAIDEN last week landed at position No. 1 on Billboard.com 's "Hot Tours" list of top-grossing tours with $19 million in ticket sales from 14 performances in 13 cities on their summer tour of Europe. The shows were attended by a total of 259,298 fans, including a sellout crowd of 55,531 at a football stadium, Friends Arena, in the Stockholm suburb of Solna, Sweden. Also included was a sold-out concert on May 29 at Lisbon, Portugal's Pavilhão Atlântico.
IRON MAIDEN's August 3 show at London, England's O2 Arena (with a capacity of up to 20,000, depending on the event) sold out in just 12 minutes, so a second show was added on Sunday, August 4. This will definitely be the band's last U.K. show this year as soon after they head off for a few selected USA shows before a massive trip around Latin America, including headlining Rock In Rio and national stadiums in Mexico, Chile and Argentina.
MAIDEN's 15th studio CD, 2010's "The Final Frontier", featured 10 tracks that had an average running time of seven minutes and 40 seconds, with the shortest song, "The Alchemist", clocking in at four minutes and 29 seconds, and the longest, "When The Wild Wind Blows", lasting ten minutes and 59 seconds.
"The Final Frontier" sold 63,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 4.
IRON MAIDEN's previous album, 2006's "A Matter Of Life And Death", opened with 56,000 units to land at No. 9. This was a notable increase from the 40,000 first-week tally registered by its predecessor, 2003's "Dance of Death" (which debuted at No. 18 on The Billboard 200 chart), and that of "Brave New World", which moved 38,000 copies in June 2000 to land at No. 39 on The Billboard 200 chart.
"The Final Frontier" was IRON MAIDEN's fourth U.K. No. 1 album. The band previously topped the chart in 1982 with "The Number of the Beast", in 1988 with "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" and in 1992 with "Fear of the Dark".
