GORGUTS: 'Colored Sands' Title Track Available For Streaming

Due on August 30 in Europe and September 3 in North America via Season Of Mist, the CD will be made available will be available as a digipak CD limited to the first pressing, regular black LP, transparent clear LP and red/yellow colored LP.

"Colored Sands" track listing:

01. Le Toit Du Monde
02. An Ocean Of Wisdom
03. Forgotten Arrows
04. Colored Sands
05. The Battle Of Chamdo
06. Enemies Of Compassion
07. Ember's Voice
08. Absconders
09. Reduced To Silence

GORGUTS guitarist/vocalist Luc Lemay previously told Zero Tolerance magazine about "Colored Sands": "It's a whole concept album, so I've been reading books for a year a year and a half for the lyrics to know what I'm going to talk about.

"The lyrics process is very hard for me. First, I'm French, and then I need to educate myself on the topic I'm going to talk about. I'm not going to educate myself on the Chinese invasion of Tibet with a Wikipedia thing.

"I bought piles of books. I feel the same way I did at the conservatory when I was writing classical pieces. It takes months and months, the pieces you just can't get it out of your system. You need to become a sponge, you need to get soaked with the topic. So far so good I'm very very happy with what we've done.

"In the first place I wanted to write the whole album about the rituals of mandalas made with sand. One day my girlfriend's little daughter colored in a coloring book a mandala for me and I wondered what a mandala was, I liked the word. I searched on the Internet and found out this is a Tibetan thing and then it clicked, this is gonna be it, but I didn't have any clue, I wasn't very educated on the Tibetan culture. This mandala thing gets so complex, you could study it for 25-30 years before you know exactly what you're talking about, so I said, 'Okay, I'll take it from a different angle.' It's not a National Geographic documentary either. It's very poetic and very epic. This is my vision. I have no pretension about telling 'truth'; it's how I feel about these people."

The band has also announced a string of headlining shows leading to and from this year's Hopscotch Festival. the U.S. trek, which begins on September 5 in Springfield, Virginia, will travel through Hopscotch before ending on September 8 in Worcester, Massachusetts.

War On Music Records in 2011 released on vinyl the GORGUTS albums "From Wisdom To Hate" (2001) and "Obscura" (1998). These records were largely regarded as pioneering works in the technical death metal genre, and set the standard for the decade to follow.

GORGUTS' current lineup is as follows:

* Luc Lemay (NEGATIVA) - Vocals, Guitar
* Kevin Hufnagel (DYSRHYTHMIA, WHILE HEAVEN WEPT, BYLA, EUCLID STREET, THE FIFTH SEASON, GREY DIVISION BLUE) - Guitar
* Colin Marston (DYSRHYTHMIA, BEHOLD... THE ARCTOPUS, BYLA, KRALLICE, INDRICOTHERE) - Bass
* John Longstreth (DIM MAK, ORIGIN, THE RED CHORD, SKINLESS, POSSESSION, ANGELCORPSE) - Drums

Video: TRIVIUM Performs New Song 'Brave This Storm' Live For The First Time

Florida metallers TRIVIUM played their new song "Brave This Storm" live for the first time yesterday (Sunday, July 28) at the Rock The City festival in Bucharest, Romania. Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.

TRIVIUM's new CD, "Vengeance Falls", was produced by DISTURBED and DEVICE frontman David Draiman and is due this fall via Roadrunner Records.

TRIVIUM filmed a video for an as-yet-undiclosed song off "Vengeance Falls" earlier in the month at Studio One in Orlando. The clip was directed by Ramon Boutviseth, who has previously worked with NONPOINT, DARKEST HOUR, INCUBUS and ALL THAT REMAINS, among others. Check out photos from the video shoot at this location.

In a recent new interview with RoadrunnerRecords.com, TRIVIUM bassist Paolo Gregoletto stated about Draiman's approach to producing: "He was there for everything. Where we recorded was this sort of loft above his house [in Austin, Texas], and that's where we did a lot of the recording, a lot of the pre-production. We got an electronic drum set and we all just kind of sat around in a circle and we played the stuff, we listened back to demos that we did, we recorded a couple of things, just rough demos so we had the parts recorded and could remember them and reference them later. But he was really hands-on with everything. It was definitely very meticulous, very well organized how he went through attacking every part of a song, whether it was the drums or the guitar parts, bass parts, and finally the vocals, making sure it all fit together really well. I mean, the lyrics and the vocals, that was the biggest thing we had never really had before, was working in pre-production with finished vocal ideas, and I think the thing David really brought to the album was being so well organized and having real clear goals of how we were going to achieve everything along the way. In my opinion, that's definitely the sign of a great producer, because there are so many things to what a producer does, but in my opinion, being organized and having a real clear-cut plan for how we're going to achieve all the ideas we've been talking about is super-important for a producer."

Paolo also spoke about TRIVIUM's songwriting process for the new CD and how it differed from the band's previous experiences in the studio.

"Definitely in the past, we kind of approached it like...we definitely had some records that were a bit of a 180 from the previous one, but now we've really learned what works within our band and it's really about improving those things, bettering them each time we go into it," he said. "I think once you find what your identity is, you just want to keep improving and building upon that, and adding new elements in but also retaining what makes your band unique among the thousands and thousands of bands that are out there. So I think with this record, it wasn't a total clean slate, it was really just tightening everything up and bringing everything that makes us TRIVIUM together even more and writing the best material and having an album that, start to finish, never really lets up. It never has any filler or dead spots, and I think David really being a fan of TRIVIUM, and really seeing our growth as a band along the way, helped out, because it wasn't like he was coming in and not really knowing what our band was about. He really understood what we've built as a band over the last seven, eight years, and how important it is to really respect all of that and to keep that stuff that's made us TRIVIUM, and just better it — bigger melodies, bigger hooks, bigger riffs, everything. Sonically, he wanted us to make a thicker-sounding album, and he definitely really pushed [mixer] Colin [Richardson] and [engineer] Carl [Bown] to make this our biggest-sounding record. And I think they did an amazing job, to be honest. We've worked with Colin for so many records now, and he's totally outdone himself."

TRIVIUM will hit the road in North America this fall with DEVILDRIVER, AFTER THE BURIAL and SYLOSIS.

HELLYEAH Taps OZZY/FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH Producer KEVIN CHURKO For Next Album

The metal juggernaut known as HELLYEAH — featuring Vinnie Paul Abbott (PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN), Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett (MUDVAYNE), Tom Maxwell (NOTHINGFACE) and Bob "Zilla" Kakaha (DAMAGEPLAN) — has tapped producer Kevin Churko to helm the band's fourth studio album, tentatively due in early 2014. Churko is the Canadian musician, sound engineer, songwriter and record producer who has previously worked with OZZY OSBOURNE, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and IN THIS MOMENT, among other acts.

The recording sessions for the new HELLYEAH CD will take place this fall at Churko's The Hideout Recording Studio in Las Vegas, Nevada.

HELLYEAH's first three albums were laid down in Dallas, Texas at Vinnie Paul Abbott's home studio, VP's Upstairs Studio.

Speaking to the 93X radio station at this year's Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin, Vinnie Paul stated about HELLYEAH's plans for the next CD: "We've done the past three HELLYEAH records [at my home studio in Dallas], but this [next] record, we really wanna go to another level with our music, and we're working with Kevin Churko, who's produced Ozzy and FIVE FINGER and IN THIS MOMENT and all that. We're actually recording that in Vegas right down the street from my house in Vegas, so it's almost gonna be as convenient as doing the Texas one."

He added: "We're already writing [material for the next album]. This tour [Gigantour] goes until August 20 and as soon as we're done, we go right into the studio with Kevin and we should have a record out probably early next year."

HELLYEAH is taking part in this year's edition of Gigantour, the critically acclaimed package festival founded in 2005 by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. Also appearing on the bill are headliners MEGADETH, along with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, DEVICE, NEWSTED and DEATH DIVISION.

HELLYEAH's third album, "Band Of Brothers", sold 19,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 19 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Released on July 17, 2012 via HELLYEAH's new label home, Eleven Seven Music, "Band Of Brothers" was produced by the band and Jeremy Parker (GODSMACK, EVANESCENCE), who also served as engineer. Gray told The Pulse Of Radio that the album represents the first time that the members of the band have fully embraced their musical roots. "It's definitely my favorite HELLYEAH record to date, for sure," he said. "I think the first couple were kind of experiments and stuff, and I think we kind of kept what we've done individually away from HELLYEAH, with our, you know, previous bands and stuff, and this time it was like we just kind of said, 'Screw it,' we just kind of quit being afraid to be ourselves. I'm really, really proud of it, I think we all are."

The band has stated that "Band Of Brothers" is a heavier, more metal-sounding effort that either its self-titled 2007 debut or 2010's "Stampede".

Video: VENOM Performs At Finland's HAMMER OPEN AIR Festival

Fan-filmed video footage of VENOM's July 20 performance at the Hammer Open Air festival in Lieto, Finland can be seen below.

VENOM is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on its new album for an early 2014 release via Spinefarm Records.

Commented VENOM drummer Danny "Danté" Needham: "The new songs are sounding amazing; the whole album has a great feel.

"I'd say the strength of this band comes from our determination to create great music, and that comes from forward thinking, new ideas and fresh challenges."

Added VENOM bassist/vocalist Conrad "Cronos" Lant: "I believe this is VENOM at its best. The songwriting keeps getting better, and the live shows are tighter and heavier than ever.

"It's clear to me now that all of the lineup changes this band has been through over the years has been an inspiring journey to find the right band of warriors.

"VENOM continue to keep growing stronger and unstoppable".

VENOM's latest studio album, "Fallen Angels", was released in November 2011 via Spinefarm Records. Featuring 13 recordings produced by Cronos, the follow-up to 2008's "Hell" release saw the trio (completed by guitarist Stuart "Rage" Dixon) adopting a style highly redolent of classic early VENOM with modern studio technology employed only to increase the general level of nastiness.

Video: METAL CHURCH Performs At Germany's HEADBANGERS OPEN AIR Festival

Fan-filmed video footage of the reunited METAL CHURCH — Ronny Munroe on vocals, Kurdt Vanderhoof and Rick Van Zandt on guitars, Steve Unger on bass, and Jeff Plate on drums — performing on July 27 at the Headbangers Open Air festival in Brande-Hörnerkirchen, Germany can be seen below.

METAL CHURCH recently inked a deal with Rat Pak Records. The band's tenth studio album, "Generation Nothing", will be released in the early fall via Kurdt's label Body Of Work Recordings in conjunction with Rat Pak.

According to Vanderhoof, "Generation Nothing" — which was recorded at Kurdt's English Channel studio in Washingtion — marks a "return to [METAL CHURCH's] classic metal sound. It has elements of the first album and 'The Dark', but still embraces the new sound of the band without chasing the past."

Munroe said in a recent interview with Metal Assault that the new METAL CHURCH effort would contain material that is "very reminiscent of the old days with some stuff that's very 'now.'" He added: "There's a bit of… I'm not going to say 'prog' because it's not, but there's a couple of elements in there that are a little bit progressive. For the most part, out of this batch of songs, they really sound more reminiscent of the early days than anything we've done before with this lineup. This excites me very much, and I think the fans are really going to dig it."

Regarding the circumstances that led to METAL CHURCH's breakup in 2009, Ronny said: "Well, in a nutshell, without going into a huge and long story here, it was certain aspects of things that had continued to happen to the band throughout its career. Not having the proper management and the proper people in place that were handling us. You know, we ended up taking some shows we shouldn't have taken and that just led to where Kurdt was really getting fed up and then we all kind of got that way. Basically, we figured before we end up disbanding because of other reasons such as maybe starting to fight with one another or whatnot, we decided to go ahead and end it then. We all ended up friends and we wanted to keep it that way. So I won't go into specifics, but we all know what the music industry is like now compared to what it was like back then. We just didn't have the right people in our camp."

Asked what the band is going to do differently this time around to avoid falling into the same trap, Ronny said: "This time around we're going to release this next record on Kurdt's label. Basically, Kurdt and the band and whatnot are taking a lot more control of the situation. Yes, maybe the downloading thing is even worse than 2009, but also on the other hand, if you know what you're doing and you use the Internet correctly, you can actually have success. Kurdt's been doing that with his prog band PRESTO BALLET and whatnot. In this day and age, the time is right to go and try something on your own. If it doesn't work, you can always end up going out and searching for a label or something. We're going to take a shot at it and see what happens and I think we're probably going to have some decent success."

HEAVEN & EARTH Release 'I Don’t Know What Love Is' Video

HEAVEN & EARTH released Dig, the third album in the band’s catalog of music, with a sold out performance at the Fonda Theater in Hollywood on April 10th. On the success of the band’s first video release for the single 'No Money, No Love', they bring the latest video sensation from their new album with the song 'I Don’t Know What Love Is', available for viewing on YouTube:
The latest video continues a story that began with the song 'No Money, No Love'. It’s a method that has created legendary video series in rock music’s past, and it’s proving to work today! Again, the immediate response is trending on the social networks.

Heaven And Earth’s critically acclaimed 2013 release Dig is the first album offering from Bruce Quarto and Quarto Valley Records. The album features guest appearances from Richie Sambora (BON JOVI), Howard Leese (HEART) and the all-star line-up of artists that Stuart Smith hand selected to create.

FLOOR JANSEN 'Would Love' To Join NIGHTWISH Permanently

In a recent interview with Ghost Cult Magazine, former AFTER FOREVER frontwoman and current REVAMP vocalist Floor Jansen — who has been performing with Finnish symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH since last October as the band's touring singer — was asked if she would be willing to front NIGHTWISH permanently if she were asked to fill the slot.

"I've been asked to fill in for the current world tour and for a couple of festival dates, but what will happen after that is still unclear," she replied. "NIGHTWISH will take a break after the current touring cycle and they'll make a decision next year. Until then, everything is still up in the air."

She continued: "If they would ask me, I would be very flattered and I would love to do it. It will be a major overhaul in my life and my career as a singer, but then again, we're not rushing things.

"Both the guys in NIGHTWISH and I have experiences with previous band breakups and all emotions that come with it. It's almost like dating. Things feel good and it's going well, but we're not in a rush to tie the knot, so to speak."

Jansen made her live debut as the frontwoman of NIGHTWISH on October 1, 2012 at Showbox Sodo in Seattle, Washington following the abrupt departure of the band's lead singer of five years, Anette Olzon.

NIGHTWISH keyboardist and main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen has known Jansen for more than 10 years already, having previously toured with her former band, AFTER FOREVER.

Asked about the reasons for Olzon's sudden exit from the group, Tuomas told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine: "I'm sure it came as a shock to everybody. We came out with a statement [regarding the split], which pretty much says it all. It still is a private matter, and that's all we wanna say about it, like, ever. It was an amicable divorce, so to say, and made in good spirit, and we are just looking to the future. There really is no reason to go back into all the details and all that. I mean, this is not politics, this is a rock band."

Regarding whether there is a chance that Floor will become the official new NIGHTWISH lead singer, Tuomas said: "The way that we have decided is that we're gonna continue with her until the end of the festival season in 2013 — just have fun, just do the shows the best we can. I mean, the atmosphere in the band is so good at the moment, [we want to] just enjoy this what we have right now. They try not to think about NIGHTWISH at all for a few months. Everybody take a little vacation. And we already have the rehearsal place for the next album booked in 2014 — from July to September. So that's how far we have planned. But when we do the last festival show next August, after that, it's gonna be total nothing for a few months. So I would say everything is possible, but that's really not the thing that we want to be thinking about right now, because there's absolutely no reason to."

EDEN'S CURSE Announces New Lineup

Multinational melodic metallers EDEN'S CURSE have announced the addition of Serbian vocalist Nikola Mijic to the group's ranks. The band's long-awaited fourth album, "Symphony Of Sin", will be released on October 4 via AFM Records. A digital single, "Evil & Divine", will precede the full-length CD. The group recently shot a video for the track on location at the famous St. Andrews in the Square location in Glasgow under the direction of Ryan Priddy and his team at Independent Element.

Hailing from Senta, in the North of Serbia, Nikola is a vastly experienced singer despite his tender years. For the past ten years, he has been fronting Serbian outfit ALOGIA and more recently Hungarian prog rockers DREYELANDS, who released their debut album on Lion Music in 2010. In 2008, he also featured heavily on the prog rock project album "Expedition Delta".

Said Nikola: "I'm really honored to be part of the metal journey of EDEN'S CURSE with their new upcoming album that is coming out on 4th October and I'm looking forward to rock with you guys!"

Added EDEN'S CURSE drummer Pete Newdeck: "For me, when I heard a lot of the auditions, Nik's was the one that stood out. It stood out mainly because of its originality. His voice was strong, it was soulful and he had something different to offer. That's really why I championed him, because I think he could offer something different, change the face of the band and possibly help this band move forward."

Stated EDEN'S CURSE bassist Paul Logue: "When Nik sent his audition of 'Evil & Divine', that's when we really began to sit up and take notice and say that this guy was something special. He is the complete package."

Guitarist Thorsten Koehne enthused: "He's just an amazing talent, one of the most amazing singers I've seen in recent times. He's just so versatile in what he can do and he just fits the band perfect because with EDEN'S CURSE, we're very diverse, as far as the music, so there's not just one particular style that we are doing. So we were really looking for a singer that could keep up with that and have a range in his vocals. Nikola is just perfect because he can do so many things, from blues to metal stuff and everything in between."

Also joining the EDEN'S CURSE ranks is Welsh keyboard wizard and POWER QUEST mainman Steve Williams, who replaces Alessandro Del Vecchio.

Commentted Logue: "Sadly we we part company with our brother Alessandro on a truly positive note as his career as a mixing engineer and a producer has really taken off, meaning less and less time could be devoted to the EDEN'S CURSE cause. We will miss him dearly as a friend and a musician and we wish him nothing but the utmost success. We firmly believe he has the talent to go right to the very top! He will always be considered a part of the EDEN'S CURSE family and is cursed for life."

Williams, a former member of DRAGONFORCE, commented: "It was a real thrill to be asked by Paul and the boys to get involved in EDEN'S CURSE. I've been a fan for a long time, I've known the guys a while and it's great to be here getting myself right cursed, I can tell you."

Added Logue: "I've known Steve for a while, and when Ale left, he recommended we look at Steve. It was very easy choice for us, as we were already good friends and with POWER QUEST calling it a day, it was a perfect time in both our careers to join forces. Steve is a smashing player and one of life's true gentlemen. He is an utter joy to have on board and I am genuinely excited to see what we can produce together in the years to come as I am a big fan of his songwriting."

BLACK SABBATH's OZZY OSBOURNE On '13' Chart Success: 'We Were All In Shock'

A short video clip of BLACK SABBATH singer Ozzy Osbourne talking to Sky News about the success of the band's new album, "13", can be seen below.

"I can't believe it," Osbourne says in the clip. "It's amazing. We were all in shock. I knew in the back of my mind that one day I wanted to do this. But it's probably the best thing that ever happened to me, for us to break up all of those years ago. This proves that we had something going for us."

Osbourne came up with the title for "God Is Dead?", the current single from the band's new album "13", but bassist Geezer Butler wanted to call it something else. Ozzy told Shortlist, "I was in a doctor's office and there was a magazine in there with that line on the cover. I thought, 'Yeah — people flew planes into the World Trade Center because of God, there's all this fucking shiy going on in the world in the name of God.'" Geezer added, "Ozzy gave me that line, and I wrote the lyrics. I wanted to call the song 'American Jihad'."

Ozzy continued, "Fuck that. I'm the guy at the front singing it; I would have had a fucking army after me . . . In the early days (of BLACK SABBATH), there was a lot of backlash from religious groups . . . I was sent letters written in blood. In my house I must have 25 fucking Bibles, each with a marked-up passage that (the sender) wanted me to read."

Geezer Butler told The Pulse Of Radio what the song was about. "It's about this guy that sets out to prove that God is still alive, and he has this voice in his head saying that God's dead, and he can't get rid of the voice telling him, so he goes out and kills everybody," he said.

"13" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart last month, the first SABBATH album to ever top the U.S. chart. The CD has sold 239,000 copies in the United States so far, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The disc features Ozzy, Butler and guitarist Tony Iommi playing together for the first time in 35 years. Their last effort together was 1978's "Never Say Die!"

The band kicks off a North American tour on July 25 in the Woodlands, Texas.

HELLION Taps DAVID BOWIE Producer, Ex-AC/DC Drummer For New Album

Los Angeles-based female-fronted metallers HELLION are regrouping in the studio to record new material. The first set of new tracks will be produced by legendary British studio icon Ken Scott, who has produced iconic albums, including DAVID BOWIE's "Hunky Dory", "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars", "Aladdin Sane" and "Pinups".

A top producer at Abbey Road Studios, Scott is also acknowledged as one of the five principal engineers for THE BEATLES. He has engineered countless classic works, including GEORGE HARRISON's "All Things Must Pass", ELTON JOHN's "Madman Across The Water", "Honky Chateau" and "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player".

In 2012, Scott released his autobiography, entitled "Abbey Road To Ziggy Stardust", co-written with Bobby Owsinski. Promotion for the book included a high-profile event at the Los Angeles Grammy Museum.

The musicians enlisted by powerhouse vocalist Ann Boleyn for the new HELLION project include drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC, QUEENSRŸCHE, DIO, DIO DISCIPLES) Swedish import, bassist Bjorn Englen (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, DIO DISCIPLES), and upstart lead guitarist Maxxxwell Carlisle.

Scott says of the comparison between working with David Bowie and Ann Boleyn: "They're both professional. They're both good at what they do, even though they're two different styles. Working with Bowie or working with Ann of HELLION, you've got sheer talent. No vocalist is quite like David, but he was amazing. Almost all of the takes we did were first takes, from beginning to end. Just complete art and performances, and it was great. They're both professional, they're talented, they're good. It makes it easy."

Adds Scott: "What makes Ann special is her uniqueness. I've never heard another female vocalist that's anything else like Ann. It was a long time ago, but the first time I ever heard her, it was on a demo, and I didn't realize it was a female."

Commenting on Boleyn's vocal intensity, Scott explains: "She was part of a very male-dominated market, and vocally she fitted in perfectly. And you saw her live, and you thought, ‘This is coming from her?' It's amazing."

Acknowledging Boleyn as the driving force propelling the band, Scott notes: "HELLION was a group of musicians, and over the years, the musicians have changed. The one musician that has always been the same is Ann. So once again, it's new musicians. The one constant thing about HELLION is Ann, and her incredible voice."

Says Boleyn of working with the famed studio icon: "We're the only metal band he's work with. In 1986, we entered the recording studio with Ken Scott, but due to other commitments, he was unable to work with us. It's documented in his book 'Abbey Road To Ziggy Stardust'."

Says Wright of working with Boleyn and HELLION: "She's tried to stay true to that heaviness and a certain darkness. She's sticking to the same formula, just different musicians though."

Wright, who is still working with Geoff Tate's QUEENSRŸCHE and DIO DISCIPLES, observes: "There definitely seems to be quite a buzz. I think it started even before me or Bjorn got involved, so that was cool. There's a big fan base out there that has been reborn, and they're really getting back into it, and really getting excited about what Ann is doing."

Ann Boleyn's history is legendary in the world of both metal and rock. Ann was the first woman to successfully own and run a heavy metal label internationally. From 1982 to 2003, her New Renaissance label released albums from a stable of 65 bands.

Among the artists signed to her label was Johnny Depp's band ROCK CITY ANGELS (RCA). Boleyn famously released the band, resulting in Geffen Records signing them.

Ann remembers: "I always told my artists and bands to get work as extras in movies, so they would have an additional income. It just so happened that Johnny Depp's work led to being on the television show '21 Jump Street', and the rest was history.”

"I am so pleased to be able to work with Ken Scott, and this fine lineup of first-rate musicians. I couldn't ask for more. The fans are really going to be happy with the result," comments Boleyn.

COREY TAYLOR: I Love Being Able To Write Stuff For SLIPKNOT Now

MediaMikes.com recently conducted an interview with SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR singer Corey Taylor. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

MediaMikes.com: Can you give us an update on the status of SLIPKNOT?

Corey: We have two shows scheduled for October in South America. Other than that, I have the rest of the year off, which is awesome. The plan right now is that early next year we will get together and start throwing new music at each other. It feels like it's time so right now everyone is putting demos together and starting to get ideas together in our heads. We all have stuff going on outside of SLIPKNOT and are very busy, so there is no time table other than sometime next year. I think we are all in the position now to where we are looking forward to it.

MediaMikes.com: In your position as a singer, do you wait until you hear demos before writing or do you write on your own before hearing anything else?

Corey: It's kind of both. I definitely get excited when I hear new music from those guys, but at the same time, my skills at writing and my proficiency on guitar has gotten better over the years, so now not only do I get excited when I hear other people's ideas, but I am also starting to write more and more SLIPKNOT stuff. That's something that I didn't have the confidence to do before but now I am starting to feel really confident in my abilities. I love being able to write stuff for SLIPKNOT now, but still enjoy hearing and writing to the other guys material.

MediaMikes.com: Being SLIPKNOT is a very intense and demanding project. How soon do you start preparing both mentally and physically for your work in the group?

Corey: We do try to really get our heads ready for things as there is really no other preparation that can be done. We try to go in to things with the mindset of excitement as we are going to be hearing something that no one has ever heard before. We are going to write something that hopefully people haven't heard before. That's what drives us. The excitement and new ground is what we love. We try to go into things very open and that I think helps us capture the energy we need for SLIPKNOT music.

Guitarist KELLY MCLAUCHLIN's Time With POSSESSED Has Come To And End

Guitarist Kelly McLauchlin of California death metal pioneers POSSESSED has released the following statement:

"Due to my busy work/travel schedule with my audio-visual career, I will not be touring with POSSESSED on their upcoming South American tour. The band has found a replacement guitarist to do the tour, and although we are leaving the door open to fill in whenever possible, most likely this will be the end of my time with POSSESSED. I simply cannot commit to the band's increasing tour schedule.

"As anyone can imagine, this has been a very difficult decision to make. In the past, I would have simply quit my job for an opportunity to tour with a legendary band like POSSESSED — a band which I grew up listening to since I was 16 years old. But, things are different now — and I have responsibilities, and bills to pay.

"It has been 2 and ½ years ago since I joined POSSESSED, and in that time we have done quite a few amazing things — we played a total of 31 shows together, including some huge festivals (Hellfest, Graspop), special events (Bonded By Baloff, Barge To Hell), U.S. tour dates and two full European tours, as well as written — and performed live — the first new POSSESSED song in over 20 years. So I will always remember my time with POSSESSED.

"I’d like to thank all our fans and friends, old and new, who have shown their support. I hope to see you all again one day. I send my best wishes and respect to Jeff Becerra. We will always remain friends, and brothers. And to the rest of the band, good luck in South America and in the future.

"And for my personal fans, friends and supporters – do not worry, this is not the end of my musical projects — stay tuned for something very special to be announced in the weeks ahead."

POSSESSED's most recent lineup consisted of the following musicians:

* Jeff Becerra - Vocals
* Emilio Marquez (SADISTIC INTENT) - Drums
* Robert Cardenas (AGENT STEEL, COFFIN TEXTS) - Bass
* Kelly McLauchlin (DIABOLIC, UNHOLY GHOST, PESSIMIST) - Guitar
* Daniel Gonzalez (NAILSHITTER, OCCISAS) - Guitar

Becerra previously stated about POSSESSED's most recent lineup: "I am quite happy with this new lineup and truly respect every member in the band now. It just makes everything so much easier and worthwhile whenever everyone is as into the music as I am. Also the professionalism and dedication is unwavering. These guys came in with guns blazing and knew the songs so well that even the first time around they were playing them almost perfectly."

SEBASTIAN BACH Working On 'Balls-Out, Kick-Ass Rock 'N' Roll' New Album

Former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach is currently in the studio working on his next album with producer Bob Marlette (BLACK SABBATH, ALICE COOPER), who helmed the singer's last solo CD, 2011's "Kicking & Screaming".

Comments Bach: "Well, I am happy to say we have spent the last two days in studio and we know exactly what to do with this new record. It is going to be balls-out, kick-ass rock 'n' roll with tons of vocal histrionics and harmonies especially. That is what I am hearing so far on this record.

"I am going to really concentrate on harmonies and pushing my voice to the maximum you have ever heard it pushed. The riffs are crazy and cool and we have 13 or so songs so we are right on track and we know exactly what to do to kick your ass into 2014!

"We are into it! And get ready for new Bach rock coming your way soon! Thanks to Devin Bronson and Bob Marlette who are really making it happen!"

Bach's next solo CD, which is tentatively due in early 2014 via Frontiers Records, is expected to feature contributions from Steve Stevens (BILLY IDOL) and Los Angeles-based guitarist Jeff George, who previously played with ASKING ALEXANDRIA's lead vocalist Danny Worsnop. Making a guest appearance on the album will also be bassist Duff McKagan (DUFF MCKAGAN'S LOADED, VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES).

Bach's brand new CD/DVD package, "ABachalypse Now", was released in North America on March 26 via Frontiers Records. The "ABachalypse Now" Ultimate CD/DVD Edition includes never-before-seen footage from last year's Graspop Metal Meeting festival in Dessel, Belgium, the full never-before-seen Hellfest set from France and the fully-remixed and remastered Nokia show from Los Angeles (originally broadcast on AXS TV), as well as bonus music videos. The DVD contains a running time of nearly 160 minutes. "ABachalypse Now" was made available in two configurations: the Ultimate CD/DVD Edition (2 CDs + DVD) and a standalone DVD.

CHASTAIN's LEATHER LEONE To Guest On BENEDICTUM Frontwoman's Solo Album

BENEDICTUM singer Veronica Freeman and CHASTAIN frontwoman Leather Leone were interviewed on the latest edition of "The Classic Metal Show", which is heard live on Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. EST at TheClassicMetalShow.com. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below.

Veronica (pictured below) is currently recording a solo album which will be released under the moniker THE V. She states, "I had a lot of input and encouragement from Frontiers in the previous months to try and stretch myself with different musical styles and approaches. So I have decided to accept their proposal for a solo album."

Musically, Veronica is pursuing a much more melodic and hook-friendly direction. John Herrera is producing this endeavor and there should be some special guests appearing in the writing and performing department, including Leone, a song from Jerry Dixon from WARRANT and some bass performances from Brad Lang from Y&T and Jeff Pilson. BENEDICTUM guitarist Pete Wells will also show his other side with some of the music he is contributing to this project.

Speaking to Examiner.com, Freeman stated about how the idea for her solo album came about: "The story happened is that the owners of Frontiers, the president and vice-president, happened to be in Los Angeles this year when I had the broken-foot thing. I live in Phoenix now, but I didn't want to miss a chance to meet them. So I went up there and we had lunch together. They told me they really believe in my talent, all that stuff. I was flattered and it was great to hear. But being so ingrained in metal, it was really kind of frightening to not do metal. The proposition was to do a solo based on the concept of you, meaning what we had done, but it will be a lot more melodic hard rock, a lot more hook-oriented. So [laughs], I was like, 'Wow! That's really cool!' It kind of morphed from 'We'll give you the songs' to 'You can write them, but we have to kind of approve them first.' That allowed me to still write with Pete, so it's still a Wells-Freeman type of thing, but he has so much other music too. So it worked out well, actually. And as long as it wasn't going to be too tame! It's definitely melodic; some of it rocks, but some is really soft too. I'm doing a tune that Jerry Dixon from WARRANT submitted, which was kind of cool and some music from some other people. So, I just have to get used to it, do you know what I mean?"

She added: "It's out of my comfort zone a little bit. Some of the songs are right there and I'm like, 'This will be fun!' Others are, I'm not going to lie to you, I'm like 'I don't know!' but then as the songs develop, I'm, like, 'Okay, I can see where this is going.' Jeff actually played bass on about four tracks, which was very cool of him to do. We have other musicians and stuff, but it's still pretty much me, Pete, and Rick [BENEDICTUM and ex-JAG PANZER drummer Rikard Stjernquist] for the most part, so we'll see how it goes."

MANOWAR To Re-Record 'Kings Of Metal' For Album's 25th Anniversary

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of MANOWAR's "Kings Of Metal" album, which the band calls "a milestone in metal history," the group is currently in the studio recording a brand new special version of the LP: "Kings Of Metal 2014". The new rendition will "honor the original as its inspiration, but with additional energy, fully utilizing the power of today's technology and 25 years of experience," says MANOWAR bassist Joey DeMaio. "It will contain new arrangements and changes that incorporate live performance elements added over the years. The album will feature additional bonus material and many other surprises."

The new recording is only one component of the "Kings Of Metal 2014" anniversary celebration.

For this special occasion, MANOWAR will also open their vaults and reveal never-before-seen video footage, photos, behind-the-scene interviews and insight into the history of MANOWAR and the "Kings Of Metal" era.

For the new narration on "The Warrior's Prayer", the band will be joined by celebrated British actor Brian Blessed ("Henry V", "Macbeth"). Blessed is a renowned Shakespeare and character actor who has starred, among others, in Kenneth Brannagh's "Henry V" and "Much Ado About Nothing", in "King Lear" and Oliver Stone's "Alexander". Brian also has an affinity with heavy metal music. In June, he received the "Spirit Of Hammer" award at Metal Hammer U.K.'s Golden Gods Awards.

The new recordings will also feature guitarist Karl Logan's and drummer Donnie Hamzik's contributions, who, after having played these classic hymns many times live, will now have the opportunity to add to their legacy by including their own signature sound and performance.

The release of "Kings Of Metal 2014" is scheduled for the end of this year.

2014 will then see MANOWAR's anniversary tour, performing the full "Kings Of Metal 2014" album along with their other metal hymns in a completely new stage production.

"Kings Of Metal" was first released on November 18, 1988. Already a significant force with international success since their debut album "Battle Hymns", this release and the following 1989 "Kings Of Metal" world tour catapulted MANOWAR to a new sphere. Songs like "Heart Of Steel", "Kings Of Metal", "Hail And Kill" and "Blood Of The Kings" became instant anthems and remain among the most demanded songs in concerts, celebrated not only by MANOWAR fans.

NEWSTED: Entire Debut Album Available For Streaming

"Heavy Metal Music", the debut album from NEWSTED — the new band featuring former METALLICA, VOIVOD and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM bassist Jason Newsted and STAIND guitarist Mike Mushok — can be streamed in its entirety in the YouTube clip below. The CD will be released on August 6 in North America via Chophouse Records/Collective Sounds and August 5 in Europe through Spinefarm Records. Jason told Billboard.com the 11-song album will be very similar to the band's debut EP, "Metal", which sold around 6,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 62 on The Billboard 200 chart. "The EP was always intended to be the primer, a sampler of what was to come on the LP," he said. "It's all metal all the time. It's not all fast, but it is all heavy."

Regarding how the material for NEWSTED's debut album came together, Jason told Loudwire: "It started out as my seeds for the first eleven songs that I made on my GarageBand thing. I wrote all the tracks — guitars, bass, drums, everything and gave them to Jessie [Farnsworth, guitar] and Jesus [Mendez Jr., drums] and had them go learn it, put their artistry on it and so it was collaborative in that way for the first batch. Like the four songs on the EP came from that initial eleven, so that's how those songs went. Each day as we get deeper into the songs, the collaboration gets deeper as well. I have come a long way from my tunnel vision of 'Only my ideas are good enough' bullshit, and I'm a lot more open to everyone's ideas and the artistry of each person to make it what it is. And three heads is better than one and that kind of thing. So it has become more collaborative as we go. I've written ten more since that time in October last year and a few of them have made their way onto this LP now. Once again, they were all my seeds, but now that we have Mike Mushok in the band and I give the music to all three of those guys, now I have three great artists bringing back their responses and their counterpoint playing to my ideas, so it's becoming more and more collaborative every day and on this LP there will be shared writing credits on at least half of the songs with the writing credits now."

"Heavy Metal Music" track listing:

01. Heroic Dose
02. Soldierhead
03. ...As The Crow Flies
04. Ampossible
05. Long Time Dead
06. Above All
07. King Of The Underdogs
08. Nocturnus
09. Twisted Tail Of The Comet
10. Kindevillusion
11. Futureality

As previously reported, three songs from NEWSTED — "Long Time Dead", "King Of The Underdogs" and "Heroic Dose" — are featured in the newest episode of Break Media's hit web series "Man At Arms".

NEWSTED's heavy metal pairs as background for the gritty series, which follows famous Hollywood blacksmith Tony Swatton as he builds real-life versions of iconic pop-culture ("Pirates Of The Caribbean", "The Matrix", "Spider-Man", etc.) weapons by hand.

NEWSTED is taking part in this year's edition of Gigantour, the critically acclaimed package festival founded in 2005 by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. Also appearing on the bill are headliners MEGADETH, along with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, DEVICE, HELLYEAH and DEATH DIVISION.

NEWSTED was forced to miss last week's Gigantour dates in Canada after Jason was diagnosed with "walking pneumonia."

NEWSTED kicked off its first-ever U.S. tour on April 19 at Red House in Walnut Creek, California. The 14-date trek concluded on May 23 in Asbury Park, New Jersey and led into a number of European festival appearances for the band.

After 35 years, three original members of BLACK SABBATH released a new disc on June 11 called "13". The first SABBATH record since 1978's "Never Say Die!" to feature singer Ozzy Osbourne, along with guitarist Tony Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler, it's their second attempt at new music together after a previous effort failed in 2001.

The new disc does not feature founding drummer Bill Ward, who has sat out the reunion over contractual issues.

Brad Wilk of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE played drums on the while Ozzy's solo drummer Tommy Clufetos is behind the kit for live work. While money was believed to be an issue, Ward was reportedly also upset that the group wanted another drummer around anyway to back him up if he was physically unable to get the job done.

Ozzy told The Pulse Of Radio that Ward being out of shape was the main reason he's not on the record. "Bill Ward has got the most physically demanding job of the lot of us, 'cause he's the timekeeper. I don't think personally he had the chops to pull it off, you know. The saddest thing is that he needed to own up to that, and we could have worked around it, whether we had a drummer on the side with him or something. But I suppose it was something to do with finances as well."

SABBATH's future also depends on guitarist Tony Iommi's health. Iommi was diagnosed with a form of cancer in early 2012 and continues to undergo treatment for it. Ozzy told NME, "At the moment, we're doing so many weeks on the road, then he has to go back for more treatment. He's had chemo and radiotherapy, and now he's on a thing to boost his immune system. I really hope it's gone for good. I'm sure it has. But you never know with that stuff."

"13" sold 155,000 copies in the U.S. in its first week of release to land at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, giving the group its first chart-topper ever in America.
