SOULFLY/CAVALERA CONSPIRACY Guitarist MARC RIZZO: \'Legionaire\' Artwork Unveiled
 Marc Rizzo has once again stepped out from his six-string duty with SOULFLY and CAVALERA CONSPIRACY to deliver his new solo project, "Legionaire", available now via Phlamencore Records.
"Legionaire" was written and recorded over a two-year period while Rizzo was on tour with SOULFLY and CAVALERA CONSPIRACY. Rizzo would break and get into the studio to record, then return to the road.
"I'm really excited about this record," states Rizzo. "I had a lot of time since my last record to really think about this new album. I think traveling all over the world, writing all the new material, really influenced the sound.
"After two U.S. solo tours in 2008, I think I really figured out what songs work well live.
"I'm really excited to play these new songs in front of a live audience. It's very cool to see kids slam-dancing and going off to instrumental music."

DYING FETUS: \'Your Treachery Will Die With You\' Video Available
 "Your Treachery Will Die With You", the new video from Maryland-based extreme metallers DYING FETUS, can be viewed below. The clip was filmed in New York with director Kevin Custer (HATEBREED, TESTAMENT, SOULJA BOY, KINGDOM OF SORROW), who previously worked with the band on the "Shepherd's Commandment" video.
"Your Treachery Will Die With You" comes off DYING FETUS' new album, "Descend Into Depravity", which sold around 2,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 166 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD landed at position No. 4 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
Released on September 15, 2009 via Relapse Records, the follow-up to 2007's "War Of Attrition" was recorded at Wright Way Studios in the group's hometown with producer Steve Wright.

ZYKLON Calls It Quits
 After taking an offical break over two years ago, it has now become reality that Norwegian extreme metal act ZYKLON is no longer a functional band, and thus the decision was made to formaly split up the group instead of just letting it decend into nothingness.
As a final release from the band, Candlelight Records will later this year put out a ZYKLON box set, entitled "The Storm Manifesto", featuring all three of the group's full-length albums plus bonus material.
ZYKLON played its final show in Tokyo, Japan on September 28, 2007.
All members of ZYKLON are still active on various fronts. Guitarist Samoth is currently in the studio working on the debut album for his new project, THE WRETCHED END. Fellow axeman Destructhor is still touring with MORBID ANGEL, and is still planning to complete a new MYRKSKOG album with bassist/vocalist Secthdamon. Drummer Trym is mainly working in his tattoo shop, but is scheduled to appear in a new music project soon.
ZYKLON's third album, "Disintegrate", was released in 2006 via Candlelight Records. The CD was recorded at Akkerhaugen Lydstudio in Norway and was mixed at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden.

ABSCESS: \'Dawn Of Inhumanity\' Release Dates Announced
 ABSCESS, the California-based band consisting of Chris Reifert (drums/vocals; ex-DEATH/AUTOPSY), Clint Bower (guitar/vocals; ex-HEXX), Danny Coralles (guitar; ex-AUTOPSY), and Joe Allen (bass; ex-VON), will release its eighth album, entitled "Dawn Of Inhumanity", on February 22 in Europe and March 9 in the U.S. The CD will once again be made available through Tyrant Syndicate Productions, the label headed up by DARKTHRONE guitarist/vocalist Nocturno Culto.
Commented ABSCESS: "The band really worked hard on this album and is excited to get it out so it can burrow its way into your ears and minds.
"This album was recorded with the idea of it being a listening experience filled with bizarre and nightmarish brutality. There are plenty of twists and turns to further warp and distort the bands arsenal of sickness.

Das "Horizon" Cover Artwork wurde von COLIN MARKS von Rainsong Design (Whitechapel, Suicide Silence, Nevermore) erstellt. Außerdem hat Alexander Dietz diese drei Songs "Overcome", "Wither" und Disengage" hier auf MySpace zum probehören online gestellt. MACBETH: 10 New Songs Written For Next Album
 Italian gothic metallers MACBETH have spent the last few months writing and rehearsing material for their upcoming fifth album.

Legendary Actor CHRISTOPHER LEE To Release \'Symphonic Metal\' Album
 Legendary actor Christopher Lee, who has appeared in such cinematic milestones as "Lord Of The Rings", "Star Wars", "The Man with the Golden Gun" and "Dracula", will release "Charlemagne", a concept album with original words and symphonic metal music, on March 15, 2010.
Composer Marco Sabiu, best known for his collaborations with Kylie Minogue, TAKE THAT, Pavarotti and Morricone, has created a truly epic canvas by introducing modern metal symphonies, in a style which resembles a movie score. Marie-Claire Calvet, a graduate from Bristol University, transports the listener into "The Dark Ages", with a very powerful storyline and mesmerizing lyrics. A full orchestra, heavy metal musicians, choir and special guest vocalists bring the legend of Charlemagne to life.
Lee has previously collaborated with MANOWAR and RHAPSODY OF FIRE.

KNIVES OUT!: New Song Posted Online
 KNIVES OUT!, the Baltimore, Maryland-based band featuring members of HELLYEAH, DOG FASHION DISCO, NOTHINGFACE and POLKADOT CADAVER, has posted a new track, "Blood Everywhere", from the group's upcoming album (due out late 2010) at this location. The group will hold a special "listening party" on January 30 at the Ottobar in Baltimore where fans will be able to hear the new album in its entirety before it is released.
KNIVES OUT! will release a "digital-only" version of its original four-song EP, "Rough Cuts", later this month.
Formed in 2008, the band says, "It isn't pretty and it isn't safe. In a world of copy cat bands KNIVES OUT! stands up to deliver to the world a breath of fresh air to a stagnant, plagiaristic genre. Go hard or go home...horns up and KNIVES OUT!"

KEEP OF KALESSIN: New Song \'The Dragontower\' Available For Streaming
 Norwegian extreme metal veterans KEEP OF KALESSIN are competing in the national Eurovision Song Contest called "Melodi Grand Prix". The band will perform a song called "The Dragontower", which was originally written for the group's next album but had to be shortened from 5:20 minutes to 3:00 minutes for the performance. The full, unedited track will, of course, appear on the upcoming KEEP OF KALESSIN CD.
Commented mainman Obsidian C. (real name: Arnt Grønbech): "We're excited to have been picked out from about 1,000 Norwegian contributors to Melodi Grand Prix 2010. The feedback on the song is amazing so far and we hope that we can have a chance to be the first-ever extreme metal band in the norwegian Melodi Grand Prix final."

Due in March via Metal Blade, the disc will include footage of the band's January 24, 2009 concert at the Button Factory in Dublin, Ireland along with a documetary. KILLING TIME: \'Three Steps Back\' Due Next Month
 New York City hardcore legends KILLING TIME will release a new CD, "Three Steps Back", on February 9 via Dead City REcords.
Established in New York in 1988 and formerly known as RAW DEAL, KILLING TIME creates a sound that is an awesome batch of crunching riffs, intense drumming, and one of the most legendary voices in the worldwide hardcore scene.
Original BREAKDOWN members (Carl, Rich, and Drago) combined with TOKEN ENTRY vocalist (Anthony) and formed KILLING TIME, who soon took the hardcore scene by storm when their now-classic "Brightside" record first came out. It was not long before they were influencing a whole new generation of hardcore fans and bands.
Building on the strength of their live shows and first two full-length releases (1989's "Brightside" and 1996's "The Method"), KILLING TIME cemented themselves as a leader amongst the NYHC scene. They gained the respect of thousands and were the band that raised the bar for worldwide hardcore music.
Having picked up the pace by playing out more in recent years, KILLING TIME felt it was time to return to their original practice garage (where they had written their 1988 demo) to write some new material. This eventually led them to the studio to record 12 new songs, which is now the new release, "Three Steps Back".
Call it hardcore, metal, or punk, KILLING TIME's new CD features hard-hitting guitars, amazing riffs and intelligent lyrics covering a wide range of subjects and features the four original KILLING TIME (RAW DEAL) members.

THE POODLES - \"Closing The Books On 2009 - Long Live 2010\"
 Swedish rockers THE POODLES have issued the following update:
"Arguably, 2009 has been the busiest year so far for The Poodles since the big breakthrough in 2006. We have seen the birth of our third album Clash Of The Elements, which by now has been released all over Europe and with a planned release in Japan in early 2010. The spring of 2009 was entirely dedicated to finishing the new album and preparing for its release at the end May.
The release party was a clash all in itself with friends and press (enemies, perhaps?) gathered at Café Opera for a night to remember.
The Poodles was a regular on TV during the spring as well as the fall of 2009. Memorable appearences were Babben&Co (SVT), Sommarkrysset (TV4), and Go Kväll (SVT). During the late fall, there were also dates on anything from Dansbandskampen, to Faddergalan (with Robert Wells).
In the summer heat, the band was busy planning the mainland European release of Clash of the Elements and a quite ambitious European tour to follow up the release, all done in between shows.
At the crossroads of October-November, The Poodles went headfirst into a three-week European tour that took the band from England to Spain and everywhere between. Along for the ride were swedish opening-act DYNAZTY who helped the band set fire to the hearts and minds of anyone in attendance.
Despite having the tour cut short due to a severe case of the flu that incapacitated Jake for over three weeks, the shows that were carried out were nothing short of spectacular. The tour showed the band that the album had been well received by both fans and critics.
After a few shows to end the year, The Poodles are looking forward to 2010 with a planned release of Clash of the Elements in remaining territories as well as a live-DVD which features the band on tour in Sweden during the summer 2008 and 2009. A must for any Poodle-fan.
We wish to extend a sincere thanks to all our fans and friends for an exciting year and we hope to see all of you again somewhere on the road in 2010.

MOURNING BELOVETH Parts Ways With Guitarist, Announces Replacement
 Guitarist Brian Delaney has left Irish doom titans MOURNING BELOVETH and has been replaced by Pauric Gallagher (DECAYOR). The band states, "After more than a decade of inebriation and abuse, adventure and struggle, and four albums straight from the heart, Brian has decided that his journey with us as an active part of MOURNING BELOVETH has run its course. Not an easy decision; those of you that know us know the major part Brian played in developing the unique MOURNING BELOVETH sound."
The group adds, "Some bonds are made not to be broken, and this is one of them."
Regarding MOURNING BELOVETH's plans for 2010, the band says, "Along with the re-launch of www.mourningbeloveth.com, complete with our brand new web-store, the imminent release of the split 10" with Irish gutter dwellers WRECK OF THE HESPERUS, April sees us take the stage for Doom Shall Rise VII, our second appearance at the hallowed Church of Doom and a gig in London in May with our friends ESOTERIC will see us cross the pond to our first show in England in maybe five years."

CELESTY Vocalist Quits
 Vocalist Antti Railio has left Finnish symphonic power metallers CELESTY. He explains in a statement, "I have already for a long time felt my place in CELESTY to be merely an exit station in a long-overdue relationship that I just didn't know how to let go.
"I have not felt in a long time the joy and the passion that one should feel towards his or her own music… Thus I know want to concentrate to my own life and make music, as I, myself, see fit and without any outside/inside stress.
"My strong opinion is that the music you do should come within your heart. With your own words, purely respecting one self, and the listener. That's why I'll now concentrate fully on my long-lasted dream, and accomplishing it with full concentration.
"My new band IRON AGE REMAINS will see the dawn of light [in] January/February 2010!"

HOSTILE CELL: New Album Release Date Announced; Performance Footage Of New Song Available
 Gothenburg, Sweden-based metal/rock band HOSTILE CELL will release its sophomore album, "The Deafening", on April 6 via the group's own Coreshot Productions (with distribution through Plugged Records). 15 songs were recorded for the follow-up to the band's self-titled debut, which will feature a guest appearance by Tony Jelencovich (M.A.N, ex-MNEMIC, TRANSPORT LEAGUE). The CD will be available in physical and digital formats.
Regarding the album title, HOSTILE CELL previously explained that it "reflect[s] the chaotic media static that surrounds every civilized human 24-7, and, of course, the sonic assault that these songs will deliver."

HOSTILE CELL last year recruited Johan Andreassen, formerly of HEADPLATE and ENGEL, as the group's new permanent bass player.

 Since their beginnings in Venice, California in the early '80s, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES have led the charge in the skate punk/thrash metal movement, consequently influencing an entire generation of bands along the way.
Fontana Distribution has announced "Live At The Olympic Auditorium" ( cover), SUICIDAL TENDENCIES' first-ever DVD release. The DVD will street January 26, 2010 via the band's own imprint, Suicidal Records. The approximately 80-minute DVD features 16 tracks, including ST classics "Institutionalized", "War Inside My Head" and "Possessed To Skate" and captures the band in their most natural environment: onstage, uncensored and ready to tear you to shreds.
Commented SUICIDAL TENDENCIES founding vocalist Mike Muir: "The band started getting emails from some crazy guy that always said, 'I know you'll probably think I'm crazy, but I'm not. I'm wanna book ST for a show and I got this idea...'. Well, one by one we shot down the 'unique' ideas until one time he emailed and said the Olympic Auditorium was being bought by a Korean church. Shouldn't it be sent off with a special last gig? The band agreed and then the work began. The promoter — Evel Dick Donato who went on to win Big Brother — tells a bit about the show, making of etc. on the intro. Lots of drama, none more than the day before the show when I woke up and couldn't walk. But the show must go on and the back surgery would have to wait till afterwards. Muir told the Great Falls Tribune about the song's lyrical content, "There's a lot of people ... their heart's beating and they've got brain waves, but they're not livin.' I don't want someone else to have that control, and I'll do my best to fight to keep them from having it."

ANGEL DUST Rejoined By Singer DIRK THURISCH
 German power metallers ANGEL DUST have been rejoined by vocalist Dirk Thurisch, who left the band in 2005. The group is currently working on material for its seventh album, "Tales From Ashes And Dust", due out later this year.
In other news, Thurisch has reactivated his solo project MERCURY TIDE, which also features ANGEL DUST bassist Christian Pohlmann.

THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN: Complete \'Option Paralysis\' Track Listing Revealed
 Critically acclaimed rockers THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN will release their new album, "Option Paralysis", on March 23. The opus, recorded in Orange County, California with longtime collaborator/producer Steve Evetts (THE USED, GLASSJAW, EVERY TIME I DIE), will be the debut release for the band's brand new label Party Smasher Inc./Season Of Mist.

FEAR FACTORY: \'Mechanize\' Tool Box Detailed
 A special "tool box" edition of FEAR FACTORY's new album, "Mechanize" is now available for pre-order via the Nuclear Blast Online Shop. The box (pictured below) includes the digipack CD, carpenter pencil, hammer, screwdriver, calliper, folding rule, measuring tape, patch (12 x 5cm), poster DIN A2 (folded to A4), certificate with serial number and sticker DIN A5. Due on February 19, the item costs 66.66 euros.
FEAR FACTORY — featuring original FF members Dino Cazares (guitar) and Burton C. Bell (vocals) alongside bassist Byron Stroud (who was credited on the last two FEAR FACTORY albums in addition to touring and recording with STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and ZIMMERS HOLE) and legendary drummer Gene Hoglan (DETHKLOK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DARK ANGEL, DEATH, TESTAMENT) — recently filmed a video for the song "Fear Campaign". Directed by the team of Ian McFarland and Mike Pecci (MESHUGGAH, GOD FORBID) with producer Ryan Kohler, the clip was shot in and around the band's original base of Los Angeles. It is expected for completion mid-January with broadcast and Internet premieres already in progress.
Director Ian McFarland commented: "What excites us about this song is the building and releasing of energy. We are planning to present a visual overload of images that will keep the viewer glued to the screen. The hope is to dissect the word 'fear' and to make a piece of art that will not only capture the power of the song and but the true intensity of FEAR FACTORY."
In discussing the song's lyrical concept, vocalist Burton C. Bell revealed, "It was not necessary to camouflage the insanity of the world of today within a science fiction setting like we've done in the past. The world today has become the world that writers predicted long ago. The controlling authorities are constantly, and successfully, utilizing fear tactics to control the masses. Fear is control."
"Mechanize" will be released in the U.S. on February 9 via Candlelight Records and February 5 in Europe via AFM Records. The CD, which was co-produced by the band with Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, PARADISE LOST), was recently mixed by Greg Reely (PARADISE LOST, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, SKINNY PUPPY).

Regarding the new album's lyrical approach, Bell stated, "In the past, the lyrical concept was of a futuristic, 'sci-fi' nature. An attempt to protect the ideas and logic of those involved in FEAR FACTORY; because those who incite progressive thought are always chastised and persecuted. By placing the 'story' into a futuristic, fictional narrative, the words and ideas may not have seemed threatening. Not so for 'Mechanize'. These are the words of a reality that once seemed distant, that are now apparently, and evidently real. These are the words of the world in which we live; for what once seemed like a story of another time, has come to be our reality today. Welcome to the world of 'Mechanize'."
On the subject of "Mechanize"'s musical direction, Bell told Sergio Alvite of Mexico's Search & Destroy, "It has the raw aggression of what 'Soul Of A New Machine' [1992] was but it has... I would say it has the maturity of 'Obsolete' [1998]. When I say 'maturity,' I mean that it has the songwriting skills that 'Soul Of A New Machine' did not have whereas 'Obsolete' did."

STORMWARRIOR Explains DVD Delay, Continues Work On New Material
 German metallers STORMWARRIOR have issued the following update:
"Over the last weeks we have received a lot of questions about the final release date of the long-awaited live DVD package 'If It's Not In Your Bloode - You Will Never Understand'.
"Due to the fact that STORMWARRIOR has parted company with the Dockyard 1 label, and since Dockyard 1 was also designated to handle the promotional work for the live DVD package, we had to get to terms with a further delay of the release.
"We hope that you will understand that we were unable to update you on this,
before we had the full overview of the situation.
"The DVD release will now be handled by Remedy Records in its entirety, as a one-off collaboration. We have not been given a final date yet, but the release of the package that we are all eagerly waiting for will definitely happen in the beginning of 2010.
"At the present, we are very excited about working on new material for the next studio album. We are aiming for a spring/early summer 2010 release of the follow-up to 'Heading Northe'. Furthermore, we are looking at possible STORMWARRIOR festival appearances and suitable tours for the New Year, so rest assured: We will see you guys out on the road in 2010."

EPISODE 13: New Album Details Revealed
 EPISODE 13, one of the longest-running and best-known black metal bands in Turkey, has entered Midasin Kulakligi Studios in Ankara to begin recording its third full-length album, "Death Reclaims The Earth", for an early 2010 release. The follow-up to 2009's "Pitch Black" will be mastered at Sweden's Necromorbus Studio, known for its work with bands like WATAIN, ONDSKAPT, FUNERAL MIST, etc.

"Death Reclaims The Earth" sees the return of vocalist Ozan Akyol, who, together with guitarist Murat and drummer Nursuz (ZIFIR), founded EPISODE 13 in 2001 (the band's current lineup includes Sermet Durusan on bass and Serkan Zengin on guitar). The frontman took a temporary break from the band to complete his studies during the recording of "Pitch Black", but although absent on vocals, his input on the sophomore album was still considerable.
Three tracks from "Death Reclaims The Earth" were debuted at Norway's Inferno Festival earlier this year, and Akyol, a brooding and compelling live performer, whose vocals add a chillingly sinister touch to the new material, had this to say about the forthcoming album: "We really used 'Pitch Black' to move away from the melodic aspects of our debut, 'Tabula Rasa', because you can't express brutality and contempt with pleasant keyboard interludes, and with 'Death Reclaims The Earth' we can finally say that our sound accurately reflects our view of humanity." | 0 | |
