THE LAW Record New \'High On Power\' Song For Upcoming Big Balls Productions Compilation
Swedish metallers THE LAW have issued the following update from guitarist Björn Larsson:
"Many things have happened since we last talked. We have recorded a new track entitled 'High On Power' with the Big Balls Productions crew, who will release the track on a compilation disc this summer (with other splendid acts such as TORTURE DIVISION, INVASION, THE GENERALS, KARENSDAG etc etc). I so wish you could here this new piece since it really gives you an idea of what the upcoming disc will be like. Our plan is to record the follow-up to Distorted Anthems in late 2010. 'Intricate thrash and heavy metal' may be a fitting description to our upcoming mayhem.
In other news, we are currently booking gigs with the magnificent mosh machine F.K.Ü., and so far a couple of Swedish and Danish gigs are planned - and we'll head out in February/March this year! Can't fucking wait. More info on this will of course be presented here when it's all official!" | 0

ORPHANED LAND: Another New Song Available For Streaming
A new ORPHANED LAND track entitled "Disciples Of The Sacred Oath II" is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The song comes off the Israeli progressive folk metal masters' highly anticipated fourth studio opus, "The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR", which is scheduled for release in Europe on January 25 and in the U.S. on February 9 via Century Media Records. Mixed by Steven Wilson (PORCUPINE TREE, OPETH), who is also responsible for several keyboard parts on the new CD, the effort is a sophisticated concept album which takes ORPHANED LAND's unique brand of exotic, heavy music to soaring new heights in terms of complexity and catchiness.
Commented singer Kobi Farhi: "'Disciples Of The Sacred Oath II' is a heavy song, both musically and lyrically, and it is one of the most important tracks of the album by its meaning. Indeed, it calls for a laying down of arms to realize that the warriors are first of all brothers: 'Lay down your swords, blood and flesh you share... Shall we see the end of war, bloodbrothers?' It is definitely the most outspoken text we ever wrote on this subject. Furthermore, as this song contains Arabic lyrics, we would like to dedicate it to our Arab fans and we hope that one day we will sing it together in a show in their home countries!"

HEAVENWOOD: Pre-Production Version Of New Song Available For Streaming
Portuguese metallers HEAVENWOOD are streaming a demo/pre-production version of a new song, "Fading Sun", on their MySpace page. The track will appear on the band's as-yet-untitled fourth studio album, which will feature contributions from Russian symphonic classical composer Dominic G. Joutsen. Other songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Goddess Presiding Over Solitude", "September Blood", "The Arcadia Order", "Leonor", "A Poem for Mathilde" and "Sudden Scars".
Commented HEAVENWOOD's guitarist/mastermind Ricardo Dias: "'Fading Sun' is an intense song, both musical and lyrically. It has great orchestral arragements by Dominic Joutsen that when added to the guitar riffs made everything become unique, in our opinion. It's a small token for our fans and a little example of how the new HEAVENWOOD album is coming. The release will be very sophisticated like something we've never done so far. We believe it's going to be our best album. We're working hard in order to make it happen."
HEAVENWOOD's "13th Moon" video can be viewed below. The clip was shot on May 30, 2009 in Braga, Portugal with the production team of Carlos Barros, Rui Correia and Ricardo Coutinho (NomedeCena.com), who are described as "young talented Portuguese video/filmmakers, designers and photographers." The video concept is based on the Zodiac signs.
"13th Moon" comes off HEAVENWOOD's third album, "Redemption", which was released in August 2008. The CD was mixed at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden with Jens Bogren (OPETH, SOILWORK, AMON AMARTH). The initial recording sessions for the album took place at Ultrasound Studios with Daniel Cardoso and Ricardo Dias. The CD features guest appearances by ANNIHILATOR guitarist Jeff Waters (in the song "Bridge To Neverland"), FIREWIND guitarist Gus G. (in the track "One Step to Devotion") and singer Tijs Vanneste of the Belgian progressive metallers OCEANS OF SADNESS (in the song "Obsolete").

HIGH ON FIRE: \'Snakes For The Divine\' Cover Artwork Unveiled
Oakland, California-based power trio HIGH ON FIRE will release its long-awaited, fifth studio album, "Snakes for the Divine", on February 23 via E1 Music. The follow-up to 2007's "Death is This Communion" was recorded at The Pass Studios in Los Angeles with producer Greg Fidelman and is described in a press release as "HIGH ON FIRE's magnum opus, capturing every nuance of the legendary band's ongoing musical progression and evolution into one of heavy music's all-time greats. Sharper, faster and darker than anything the group has ever recorded, 'Snakes for the Divine' is an unrelenting tour de force, showcasing cult guitar hero Matt Pike's utterly unique and inventive musicianship and the band's epic, thundering sound. Premium production by Fidelman — the man who produced SLAYER's 'World Painted Blood' and is mixing the upcoming METALLICA live album — boosts HIGH ON FIRE's strength and power while blackened lyrical tales of ancient wars, frozen planets and doomed societies emerge from Pike's bellowing barks and throaty war cries. From the moment the leviathan-like title track explodes to kick off the album, it is immediately evident that HIGH ON FIRE is determined to push modern heavy metal into new and uncharted realms."
"Snakes for the Divine" track listing:
01. Snakes for the Divine
02. Frost Hammer
03. Bastard Samurai
04. Ghost Neck
05. Fire, Flood & Plague
06. How Dark We Pray
07. Holy Flames of the Fire Spitter
08. Mystery of Helm
The "Snakes for the Divine" album artwork, which can be viewed below, was brought to life by longtime HIGH ON FIRE cover artist Arik Moonhawk Roper. | 0

AVANTASIA / HDK Vocalist AMANDA SOMERVILLE - \"Here\'s To A Buttload O\' New...\"
AVANTASIA / HDK vocalist Amanda Somerville, also known for her work with EPICA, has issued the following New Year messgae:
"Hello everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
Sending you all heartfelt wishes for an incredible new year! With it starting a new year going into a new decade with a blue moon and a partial lunar eclipse, I'd say that 2010 is starting out with quite a bang. Thank goodness, too, because I was sooooo ready for 2009 to hurry the heck up and be OVER. Friends of mine said they were having a 'Fuck You, 2009' party and thought that they'd serve the year the greatest insult they could think of and go to bed before midnight and not even say goodbye. At first, I was all down with that, but decided to go the route to celebrate the arrival of 2010. And it's a good thing I did because I would have otherwise missed out on my sister's party where the theme was 'The worst Christmas sweater you've ever gotten' and my brother in law was wearing a kilt. (see pic on left) Yeah, Baby!!!
So, whether you were looking back fondly on a great year going out or saying, "Thank GOODNESS!" I hope you had a fantastic time of it!
Here's to a buttload o' new, peeps!"

HYPOCRISY Frontman Peter Tägtgren - \"I’m The Only Metal Guy In The World That Hasn’t Seen IRON MAIDEN\"
HYPOCRISY frontman / founder Peter Tägtgren is featured in a new interview with Metal Exiles. An excerpt is available below:
Metal Exiles: Do you plan on doing another live record, maybe a DVD?
Peter: "What’s going to happen is, we’re going on this tour through America and Europe and we hope to release the new DVD sometime during that time to go together with the 20 year anniversary of the band. It’s been thirteen years between dvds, so I think it’s time for another."
Metal Exiles: Being in a touring band(s), you have seen your fair share of live acts. Who do you always look forward to seeing while out on tour?
Peter: "That’s hard to say, man. Being out on the road doing tours and playing festivals, you see so many fucking bands and you get kind of spoiled. Usually, on big festivals, there are a couple of big headliners that you look forward to seeing, but by the time you get to that point you’re so fucked up that you can barely remember it. I guess if I had to name one, I would say that if SLAYER is playing, you want to see it. I’ve never seen IRON MAIDEN. I know, I know, I’m like the only metal guy in the world that hasn’t seen Maiden. So if I have a chance to see them, I will make it a point to."

"As we move into the new year, we are closer than ever to the recording and the release of the next Tristania album! We want to thank every single one of you for your support, interest and patience. News on the recording process will follow in the coming weeks!"
Bassist Ole Vistnes recently updated fans: "We have now written all the songs that are going to appear on the album. It's going to be diverse and varied like before, but there are a couple of tracks that are really going to treat the fans of large, powerful, melancholic metal. We are going to record the album in a couple of different studios in Norway this time, and have our producer/mixer mix it in a studio of his choice. I have visited several studios in the Oslo area to check out their availability, and if I feel like it is the right place to record our songs."

ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET In Writing Mode
ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET, the Swedish band featuring former THE CROWN vocalist Johan Lindstrand, is currently writing material for its fourth album, tentatively due later in the year. Lindstrand states, "Yesterday, the 3rd of January we kinda woke up after a couple of months of silence and rest. It has been great to just relax all this time and not thinking of anything else but to recharge the batteries. But at one point you need to get back on track.
"We actually went to the rehearsal room and picked up two brand new songs written by [new ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET guitarist] Jonas [Blom]. They sound pretty different to what we have done before and they feel great. Time will tell how they will sound with vocals but I have a lot of cool stuff in mind.

AEROSMITH Singer Steven Tyler \"Has Suffered From Continual Orthopedic Injuries That Have Caused Him Severe Pain Over The Past Decade\"
Transworldnews.com is reporting:
Steven Tyler, the lead singer of AEROSMITH, has entered a treatment program for an addiction to pain medications. Tyler, 61, has had a ten year history of chronic pain from injuries resulting from life on the road. Dr. Brian McKeon, assistant clinical professor of orthopedics at the Tufts School of Medicine, says that Tyler has suffered from continual orthopedic injuries that have caused him severe pain over the past decade.
Experts say that prior substance abuse is a risk factor for prescription drug addiction. Tyler has struggled with heavy drug and alcohol abuse during the band’s heyday in the seventies and early eighties. Many celebrities, athletes and ordinary people struggle with an addiction to prescription pain medication brought on by an injury.
According to the Office of National Drug Policy, since 1995 visits to the emergency room resulting from painkiller abuse has risen 163 percent in the United States. Many physicians think that not treating chronic pain sufficiently contributes to patients developing an addiction. Although most patients with chronic pain will, in general, be able to use the drugs without a problem, some people have other contributing factors that will fuel the development of an addiction.

Report: ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME May Jump Ahead Five Years To Get Stars
According to Roger Friedman of Showbiz 411, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is considering changing its charter that says that in order to be inducted, a band or act isn't eligible until 25 years have passed since its first record release. By altering the rules so that it only takes 20 years to get in, a lot of acts on the ballot that are more current and carry some name value would then be eligible for the 2011 ceremony: GUNS N' ROSES, GREEN DAY, PUBLIC ENEMY, NIRVANA, KID ROCK and SMASHING PUMPKINS.
KISS and the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, both widely considered favorites for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010, were snubbed by voters on December 15 when the final list of inductees was announced. THE STOOGES, GENESIS, ABBA, THE HOLLIES and JIMMY CLIFF will all be inducted into the Hall this time around, while LL COOL J, THE CHANTELS, DARLENE LOVE, LAURA NYRO and DONNA SUMMER also did not make the cut. The 25th annual ceremony is set to take place on March 15 at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City.
THE STOOGES, led by Iggy Pop, were chosen after being rejected seven previous times. The group is considered a significant influence on countless punk, hardcore, alternative and metal acts.
The CHILI PEPPERS and KISS are both first-time nominees, but the fact that they were passed over in favor of ABBA, a pop act, is sure to irritate fans.
Even ABBA's Benny Andersson told Rolling Stone, "I didn't think this would happen, because we were a pop band, not a rock band."
Once again the committee that nominates artists for the Hall ignored a number of acts that many feel deserve induction, including RUSH, ALICE COOPER, YES, DEEP PURPLE, FOGHAT, CHEAP TRICK and dozens of others.

MERCENARY Announces New Lineup
Danish modern metallers MERCENARY have announced the addition of drummer Morten Løwe Sørensen (THE ARCANE ORDER, SUBMISSION, SLUGS) to the group's ranks. The band has also revealed that all lead vocals going forward will be handled by MERCENARY bassist/vocalist René Pedersen following the recent departure of singer Mikkel Sandager. The group says, "As everybody who has seen us live in the last couple of years is fully aware of, René is a real powerhouse, and he has so much more under his belt than he got to display on the previous album."
Sørensen stated about his addition to MERCENARY: "After having shared the stage with MERCENARY alongside my band SUBMISSION, I became really impressed by their shows and musicianship, so I'm really looking forward to deliver some kick-ass shows as their drummer. I'm also very excited about being involved in the writing for the next album. It will show a new MERCENARY, and I mean that in a very positive way. In my opinion, the new material will definitely be the strongest to this date!"
Added guitarist Jakob Mølbjerg: "We're very happy to have Morten join the ranks. Not only is he a true master behind the drums, he's also a very easy-going person with a great musical drive and understanding. With Morten in the band, there's a whole new sense of renewed and shared energy, creativity and ambition.
"We've had several rehearsal sessions in the last couple of weeks, and the metal just flows. The old songs already sound like Morten have played them for years, and the new material is crushing and intense."
MERCENARY 2010 is:
Jakob Mølbjerg - Guitar
René Pedersen - Bass, Vocals
Martin Buus - Lead Guitar
Morten Løwe Sørensen - Drums
The new MERCENARY lineup will make its live debut on February 12 at the Rock Shock festival in Aars, Denmark.
