DOWNSPIRIT: Debut Album Samples Available
 DOWNSPIRIT, the German/Swiss blues/metal-oriented band formed by SYMPHORCE/ex-FREEDOM CALL guitarist Cedric "Cede" Dupont, has completed work on its debut album. An early 2010 release via an as-yet-undetermined record label is expected.
"Blending old blues roots with a modern, downtuned guitar-feel, [DOWNSPIRIT's] songs are a mixture of typical bluesy '80s hard rock and a contemporary metal sound, which also includes some electro loops," according to a press release.

EVENTIDE: New Songtitles Revealed
 Swedish metallers EVENTIDE recently entered the studio to begin recording their sophomore full-length album, tentatively due in early 2010. The band states, "All the rhythm guitars are done. It's been a couple of months of hard work to first get the amp sound we were looking for and then record 4-6 rhythm-tracks plus harmonies on 13 songs. But patience is almost always rewarded and I can tell you that the sound we've achieved is really something extra! Next on the agenda: Solos, bass and then vocals."

BLOODBATH\'s \'Breeding Death\' To Be Re-Released On Vinyl
 BLOODBATH's "Breeding Death" (1999) album wil be re-released via Animate Records on January 8, 2010 as a high-quality gatefold 12-inch mini-LP with a black inner sleeve on 180-gram vinyl. The LP contains two bonus tracks and will be limited to 999 copies (first 200 copies as collector's edition in golden wax). On side B there's an etched picture which is laser-manufactured and "simply looks killer," according to the band.

ASTRAL DOORS: New Song Available For Streaming
 Swedish metallers ASTRAL DOORS will release their fifth album, "Requiem Of Time" in Europe on January 29 and in North America on February 16 through Metalville, the band and label pool launched by the Cologne, Germany-based company Flying Dolphin Entertainment Group UG.

"Martin's mix is just incredible and we can't wait to share it with the entire world."
According to the band, "'Requiem Of Time' is a mixture of classic hard rock, like on the debut, 'Of The Son And The Father', and more modern metal like on the previous disc, 'New Revelation'. Call it what you want; it contains the best songs the band has ever written."

SOILWORK Guitarist Says New Material Is \'A Lot More Technical\'
 Peter Wichers, the guitarist for the Swedish metal band SOILWORK who currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee and works as a producer and songwriter, has posted the following message on his MySpace blog:
"Here we are in the end of 2009 and it really makes me think we did this last year go.
"I have had a great fall, and I really enjoyed working on the upcoming NEVERMORE record ['The Obsidian Conspiracy'].
"Working alongside Jeff Loomis [NEVERMORE guitarist] was an amazing experience and I can truly say that he most likely is one (if not) the best metal guitar players in the business.
"The songs on the new NEVERMORE record should have something for every NEVERMORE fan. It has some of the most extreme stuff they have ever done, and also some of the most beautiful atmospheric stuff they have ever done.
"I am very honored to have worked with these guys and there is no doubt in my mind that this record will not be another milestone.
"I also did get the chance to work along side some great people from Barrie, Ontario [Canada]. The band's name is REMAIN and they have some pretty kick-ass stuff, and as I say it, beer-drinking friendly tunes.
"We spent about five weeks in the Carolinas too, where we tracked majority of the record.
"I have since the completion of their record, started writing new stuff for SOILWORK's next upcoming record. The material is shaping up quite well, and I am very happy with the direction that we have chosen to take on this record.
"The material is a lot more technical than before, but still with the catchy elements of our previous works.
"I will be handling the production part of the record, again outside of Lake Norman in the Carolinas. And we start recording drums in Asheville, NC at a studio called Echo Mountain.
"I will work alongside with Jens Bogren for the drums, and then I will fly to Sweden to participate with the mix in Örebro, again with Jens Bogren.
"Next year will be a busy year, and I am already taking on more productions between SOILWORK's schedule, so that will be fun."

VULTURE INDUSTRIES Recording Sophomore Album
 Norwegian avant-garde metallers VULTURE INDUSTRIES have entered the studio to begin recording the follow-up to their 2007 debut full-length album, "The Dystopia Journals". The new CD is expected to contain seven tracks, and come in at somewhere between 40 and 45 minutes in length. As is usual with VULTURE INDUSTRIES, they will be using the Conclave and Earshot Studios, which is owned by the band's frontman Bjornar E. Nilsen, who, aside from his vocal duties with VULTURE INDUSTRIES and BLACK HOLE GENERATOR, is also a producer.
Commenting on the new album, Nilsen said, "It feels great to be working with the new material and the vibe in the studio has been really good so far. The songs are quite long this time, with the shortest one clocking in at five minutes. We're really excited about the new material and feel that we have stumbled on a sound that is distinctly our own."
VULTURE INDUSTRIES is based in Bergen and is part of the prolific local music scene. The band's line up is a veritable "who's who" of black and extreme metal musicians. Aside from Nilsen himself on vocals, synths and programming, bandmembers include guitarists Øyvind Madsen (SULPHUR, ex-ENSLAVED, session guitar for DEATHCON) and Eivind Huse (SULPHUR, ex-SYRACH), Kyrre Teigen on bass and Tor Helge Gjengedal (MALICE IN WONDERLAND, ex-SULPHUR, ex-TAAKE) on drums. Assisting with the production are Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED) and Arve Isdal (ENSLAVED, AUDREY HORNE).

ROB ZOMBIE Says Label Of 18 Years \'Just Wasn\'t Working\' For Him Anymore
 The Pulse of Radio reports: Rob Zombie recently left his label home of 18 years, Geffen Records, and signed a new deal with indie label Roadrunner Records' Loud & Proud imprint. While the move delayed the release of Zombie's new album, "Hellbilly Deluxe 2", from this fall to next year, the singer told The Pulse of Radio that the switch was for the best. "I was really loving the album, and I was very nervous about Geffen because over the years they've sort of just, you know, morphed into a different label," he said. "They've gone from being like the premiere hard rock label, back in the day that I signed to, to something else. It just didn't feel good to me, and I thought, like, 'I've got to get off this label.' You know, we pulled the release date obviously and I was like, you know, no matter what it takes, it's worth it, let's just find a new label, 'cause this just isn't working for me anymore." | 0 | |

ORPHANED LAND: Another New Song Available For Streaming
 A new ORPHANED LAND track entitled "Vayehi Or" (Hebrew for "Let there be light") is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The song comes off the Israeli progressive folk metal masters' highly anticipated fourth studio opus, "The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR", which is scheduled for release in Europe on January 25, 2010 and in the U.S. on February 9 via Century Media Records. Mixed by Steven Wilson (PORCUPINE TREE, OPETH), who is also responsible for several keyboard parts on the new CD, the effort is a sophisticated concept album which takes ORPHANED LAND's unique brand of exotic, heavy music to soaring new heights in terms of complexity and catchiness.
Commented the band: "For those of you who don't know, each year the longest night of the year happens at December 21 and from this day on the nights get shorter while the days get longer. On a spiritual level this symbolizes the resurrection of the light and the death of darkness (the opposite happens at every June 21).
"Since our new album, 'The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR', is a concept album about the warrior of light, we decided to share with you another short track titled 'Va'yehi Or'. Please note that our album is 78.22 min long and these are just small tastes of the whole journey."

 "Scream With Me", the new video from MUDVAYNE, can be viewed below. RAMMSTEIN: \'Ich Tu Dir Weh\' Video Released
 "Ich Tu Dir Weh" (English translation: "I'll Hurt You"), the new video from German industrial metallers RAMMSTEIN, can be viewed at visit-x/rammstein. According to a press release, the clip "is the ultimate distillation of a RAMMSTEIN concert into five minutes. As with the preceding video, 'Pussy', Jonas Åkerlund [METALLICA, SATYRICON, MADONNA, THE PRODIGY] stands at the helm as director, and for 'Ich Tu Dir Weh', he captures the show on the band's 'rehearsal stage' in 35mm. A full-bodied format to do filmic justice to RAMMSTEIN's own brand of 'widescreen' staging.
"The plan was simple. Åkerlund uses the language of grand cinema, RAMMSTEIN delivers the rest: the theatre, the flesh, the frenzy. The result is formidable. 'Ich Tu Dir Weh' shows the band at its purest and most concentrated. A beast, only awakened to life onstage under the spell of fire and a maddening roar."
"Ich Tu Dir Weh" comes off RAMMSTEIN's new album, "Liebe Ist Für All Da", which sold 22,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 13 on The Billboard 200 chart. Previously, the group's best rank came with its 1998 chart debut, "Sehnsucht", which peaked at No. 45 off the strength of its only U.S. radio chart hit, "Du Hast". Although the band just had its highest chart debut, "Reise, Reise" sold over 26,000 copies in the U.S. its opening week of sales.

THE 69 EYES: \'Dead N\' Gone\' Video Released
 "Dead N' Gone", the new video from Finnish goth 'n' rollers THE 69 EYES, can be viewed below. The clip was filmed in October in San Francisco, California and was once again directed by MTV superstar and close friend Bam Margera.
"Dead N' Gone" is the second single off THE 69 EYES's new album, "Back In Blood", which was issued in Europe (excluding Finland) on August 28 via Nuclear Blast Records (September 15 in the U.S. through The End Records). It was tracked with the Grammy-winning producer Matt Hyde (SLAYER, MONSTER MAGNET, FU MANCHU) and features a guest appearance by MONSTER MAGNET's Ed Mundell. The recording process took place both in Helsinki and Los Angeles.
Commented singer Jyrki 69: "'Dead N' Gone' is the album's dark pop song. Dark because it's a break-up song and this was the guide line also for the video and its storyline.
"As we were writing the song, I had the Madden brothers (from GOOD CHARLOTTE) in mind for the backing vocals in the chorus, since we've been friends for a couple of years and it's been in talks to do something like this together one day.
"Benji Madden came to the studio while we were recording in L.A. and sang all these amazing harmonies on one beautiful Sunday afternoon. As he's part of the song as well, it's natural to have him in the video too — cameos are always cool!
"As THE 69 EYES started their U.S. tour from San Francisco, I came into an idea that why not to have the beautiful SF as a background for the video!? I don't remember any video actually filmed in San Francisco! Since making videos with Bam Margera and his team is always so much fun, it was also very natural to have him on board again — this time we just moved the long weekend party activities to Haight Ashbury!

Added Bam Margera: "I couldnt be more happy with this new vid. Usually I direct but this time I was in it as well. CHROME DIVISION Hard At Work On New Album
 CHROME DIVISION, the Norwegian five-piece featuring DIMMU BORGIR frontman Shagrath (a.k.a. Stian Thoresen) on guitar, has issued the following studio update:
"While most others running around preparing for Christmas, CHROME DIVISION do what they find most appropriate: record another album.
"The last weeks the boys from the east have been in Marius Strand Studio in Oslo and recorded five new CHROME rumblers. In other words, the first half of the album is carved in stone. The last and closing session will take place within the first months of 2010.

"The album title is not yet revealed.
"So far it sounds fucking awsome. The songs are better, the sound is better, and with Shady Blue [a.k.a. Athera of SUSPERIA] and his characteristic attitude, the vocals are better.

CHROME DIVISION in August parted ways with longtime vocalist Eddie Guz "due to lack of dedication and commitment to the band." His replacement is none other than Athera of SUSPERIA, who filled in for Guz at the Winterfire Festival at Hessenhallen in Giessen, Germany on February 21, 2009 after Eddie Guz was unable to make the gig.
"Booze, Broads And Beelzebub" was released in July 2008 in Europe and August 2008 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records.
The follow-up to 2006's "Doomsday Rock 'n' Roll", "Booze, Broads And Beelzebub" was recorded at Studio Fredman in Sweden during January 2008 and contains a dozen or so tracks, including a cover of a classic ZZ TOP tune. The material was described by the band as "a bit more varied than on 'Doomsday Rock 'n Roll'. A bit more metal, more fast stuff, but still the basics in filthy rock 'n' roll."

SIX FEET UNDER\'s Cover Of SLAYER\'s \'At Dawn They Sleep\' Available For Streaming
 Tampa, Florida's kings of groove-laden death metal SIX FEET UNDER are back with the third installment of their cover series, "Graveyard Classics 3", due out on January 19, 2010 via Metal Blade Records. In support of the upcoming release, the band has unleashed the very first single from the CD — a cover of SLAYER's "At Dawn They Sleep" — on its MySpace page.
Commented vocalist Chris Barnes: "We chose the track 'At Dawn They Sleep' to be the first single off 'Graveyard Classics 3'.
"We've wanted to do a SLAYER song for a while and lots of our fans have been requesting that we do a SLAYER song as well; 'At Dawn They Sleep' really seemed like it would lend itself to our style. And, to be honest, I've always preferred the early SLAYER stuff, 'Hell Awaits' and prior. I think the production and song structure of their early recordings are raw and in your face, in a very dynamic way, and that's the type of band SFU is, so it seemed to fit on a bunch of different levels.

Reunited SHOK PARIS Working On New Material
 Reunited Cleveland metallers SHOK PARIS performed to a capacity crowd at the Auburn Records 25th Anniversary Concert on December 12, 2009 at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio. It was their first show since 2004 when the group played Auburn's 20th Anniversary Concert and the Bang Your Head!!! festival in Balingen, Germany.

SHOK PARIS will headline the first night of the Headbangers Open Air festival, set to take place July 29-31, 2010 in Brande-Hörnerkirchen, Germany.
"Headbangers Open Air can't get here soon enough", says vocalist Vic Hix. "It is another great opportunity to play for the best metal fans on earth.
"We had an incredible time in '04 at Bang Your Head!!! and I know it will be another great show, but this time in northern Germany."
Adds guitarist Ken Erb, "I'm amped about this festival. The band is very excited and honored to be part of HOA 2010.
"We'll be adding some more obscure songs to the set for the diehard HOA fans. We're gonna burn the garden to the ground!"
SHOK PARIS has plans to record and release new studio material next year.
"It is great working together with Vic (Hix) again," says Erb. "His voice is as strong as ever.
"I have a lot of new material I have been writing that is perfect for SHOK PARIS.
"Vic and I have always had a special songwriting connection. We're excited to be back!"
SHOK PARIS released three albums on Auburn — "Go For The Throat" (1984), "Steel And Starlight" (1987) and "Concrete Killers" (1989) — and was one of the label's most productive bands. "Go For The Throat" was Auburn's very first release, while "Steel And Starlight" and "Concrete Killers" were released through a joint partnership between I.R.S./ MCA and Auburn.
"I started working with SHOK PARIS before my 'Cleveland Metal' album was released in 1983," says Auburn Records president Bill Peters. "They had never played out live, a different singer and only three songs written at the time — 'Burn It Down', 'Run But Don't Hide' and 'Go Down Fighting'. I was an early believer and saw the potential. The band won me over after our first meeting.
"The song we recorded for the compilation, 'Go Down Fighting', became a big regional hit with extensive airplay on college radio and WMMS. The rest is history."
SHOK PARIS was the first Auburn Records band to get signed to a major label (I.R.S./MCA). They did extensive touring in the U.S. with SAVATAGE and LIZZY BORDEN in the late '80s, produced two MTV music videos and were the featured band in a science-fiction horror movie called "The Hidden".
"I asked Ken if he would be interested in putting a SHOK PARIS lineup together for my Auburn Records 25th Anniversary Concert several months ago", explains Peters. "The reunion went so well that the band decided to keep things going.
"It is great to be working with them again. I have always loved their music. Our trip to Germany in 2004 was one of the best and most fun of my many overseas trips.
"We'll have new studio material ready for next year and reissue some of my Auburn back catalog for the fans."

UNLEASHED: New Album Title Announced
 Swedish death metal veterans UNLEASHED have set "As Yggdrasil Trembles" as the title of their tenth full-length album, due in early 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records. According to the band, the musical direction of the forthcoming CD, which is being recorded at guitarist Fredrik Folkare's Chrome studio, will be "the logical continuation from 'Midvinterblot' [2006] and 'Hammer Battalion' [2008]. Lyrically, you will recognize what has become the UNLEASHED trademark since more than 20 years, the combination of the past, present and future of viking struggle and way of life. A few of the songs also mark the beginning of a story never before told."
UNLEASHED's ninth full-length album, "Hammer Battalion", was recorded in Sweden and produced by Folkare, "Hammer Battalion" took a battle-hardened axe to the misguided concepts of self-subjugation, transparent corruption and unneeded suffering in the name of religious figureheads and provides a perfect link between the ancient struggles of their Nordic forefathers and the ills of our modern society. The blistering "The Greatest Of All Lies" and "Long Before Winter's Call" took on old religious myths re-cast as pure fact, while "Your Children Will Burn" served as a warning of the consequences of blind faith. "Whatever is done in the name of different religions is often done against Mother Nature," noted vocalist/bassist Johnny Hedlund. "And she has the means of striking back."

RUDRA: \'Hymns From The Blazing Chariot\' Video Released
 RUDRA's video for the track "Hymns from the Blazing Chariot" can be viewed below. The clip was directed by Jacen Tan and was "filmed over a period of two months, using some cool 'green-screen' effects," according to the band. "The concept is based on the ancient battle of Kurukshetra, focusing on the dialogue between two warriors, Arjuna and Krishna."
"Hymns from the Blazing Chariot' comes off the Singaporean metallers' new album, "Brahmavidya: Transcendental I", which was released earlier in the year via Vic Records. The CD was produced by Joshua G. Nair and Sean Loo and features fourteen tracks with a total running time of about 70 minutes.

RUDRA recently announced the addition of guitarist Vinod to the group's ranks. RUDRA bassist/vocalist Kathir stated, "[Vinod] isn't someone new to RUDRA or the Singaporean metal scene. Vinod has played in many bands before and has been known to us for almost eight years. We are looking forward to writing the new album and touring with him."
Added Vinod, "It is truly an honor to be chosen and be part of RUDRA, a pioneer metal band. The first extreme metal band I listened to that inspired me and made me believe it is possible for local Singaporeans to start a band and be successful. I've known the members for a while. OZZY OSBOURNE: New Album Title Revealed
 According to NME.com, Ozzy Osbourne has set "Soul Sucka" as the title of his next album, which is slated to come out in June. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Let It Die", "Diggin' Me Down" and the title track.
The album, produced by Osbourne and Kevin Churko, will be the first to feature new guitarist Gus G. (FIREWIND).
Ozzy Osbourne's latest CD, "Black Rain", was certified gold on December 14, 2007 by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for shipments in excess of 500,000 copies in the United States.

BORKNAGAR: Four \'Universal\' Formats Detailed; New Studio Webisode Available
 The third in a series of video clips featuring footage from the recording sessions for BORKNAGAR's new album, "Universal", can be viewed below. Due on February 22, 2010 in Europe and March 2, 2010 in North America through Indie Recordings, the effort will be made available in four different formats: regular jewelcase CD, limited digipack (including bonus disc), CD box with extras and gatefold LP with double vinyl.

 The cover artwork for "A Savage Symphony - The History Of Annihilation", the forthcoming DVD from German thrash metal veterans DESTRUCTION, can be viewed below.
