MONUMENTS Release New Video For “Animus”

Before Monuments embark on their extensive spring tour, the band announce the release of their track and video for "Animus". It is the first song and video featuring Andy Cizek on vocals and a reintroduction of drummer Mike Malyan as full-time members.

"Hey Y'all', We're excited to show you our new track 'Animus'. Lyrically, this song explores overcoming anxiety. Embracing your burdens and letting them flourish into a positive driving force. Thus, these demons became my 'Animus'. Thanks for listening," states Andy Cizek about the track.

After playing two shows in India, the band will be touring Europe with their friends in Heart Of A Coward. In April, they will head back to North America with Skyharbor and Vespera.

Find the band's tour itinerary here.

HEXVESSEL Streaming “Demian” Single From Upcoming Kindred Album

Psychedelic forest folk-rockers Hexvessel will release their new nature-mystic opus, Kindred, via Svart Records on the March 20.  Taking a darker and more esoteric path, Kindred sees Hexvessel re-forge their eclectic melting cauldron or “vessel” of sound into a potent “hex” of spell-binding songcraft. New single, “Demian”, is streaming here.

A sub-arctic occult blues number, with western-noir guitars, “Demian” is a paean to the work of Herman Hesse and is about opening up our subconscious to reach our human potential.

Singer/song-writer Mat McNerney says “’Demian’ is in a sense the true message in everything we do with Hexvessel. It’s about finding the sense of holiness within and discovering the magic in the universe, which is within us all. It’s about breaking on through to the other side.”

Blues-laden psych-rock and progressive structures harken back to King Crimson, giving way to dark earthen balladry reminiscent of early Nick Cave and the doom-laden atmospheres of Dead Can Dance. The band returned to their original studio in Tampere, Finland, where they recorded their cult classic No Holier Temple, which fused Hexvessel’s folk roots with an occult undercurrent, with the new album mastered by John Davis (The Killers / Gorillaz / Led Zeppelin / Lana Del Rey) in the UK.  Through ‘Kindred’s’ 10 song rites of passage, Hexvessel cover Coil’s Fire Of The Mind live from a mental institution and delve into the Druidic sacrificial swamps with songs like Bog Bodies, which conjures the deep Lynchian night  with muted trumpet and foggy rhodes piano. Adorned by cover artwork by artists Thomas Hooper (who has worked for Neurosis, Converge and Doomriders) and Richey Beckett (who has created work for Metallica, Foo Fighters, Robert Plant), ‘Kindred’ is an album which calls you on a journey, both intimate and richly enlightening.

Kindred is Hexvessel’s 5th album, and a return to Svart Records, where they released their debut album Dawnbearer to critical and cult acclaim 10 years ago. Hexvessel was formed by English/Irish singer/songwriter Mat McNerney in 2009 after he moved to Finland. Also known for his work with Beastmilk (now known as Grave Pleasures), The Deathtrip, guest spots with Carpenter Brut and Me & That Man and his earlier work with Norwegian black metal bands Code & Dødheimsgard, McNerney is a both highly eclectic and critically acclaimed musical artist. Across the years, it is McNerney’s work with Hexvessel which has been his most brave, exploratory, honest and impossible to categorise, unique and idiosyncratic in a world all of their own.

Former MACHINE HEAD Guitarist PHIL DEMMEL Launches ECHOES OF RECKONING Music Umbrella

Former MACHINE HEAD and current VIO-LENCE guitarist Phil Demmel has launched a music umbrella called Echoes Of Reckoning. According to Phil, Echoes Of Reckoning will encompass his various solo projects and collaborations canvassing many genres: thrash, groove, rock and acoustic. The label's first release will be the song "The Permanent Decay", featuring an all-star cast, including Demmel, BLEEDING THROUGH vocalist Brandan Schieppati, MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson, and SACRED REICH (and ex-MACHINE HEAD) drummer Dave McClain. The track, which was written by Demmel in late 2016 and rejected for use on MACHINE HEAD's "Catharsis" album, will be made available digitally this coming Friday, January 31.

Commented Demmel: "I look forward to collaborating with my friends and capturing these little auditory snapshots on 'tape.' Really excited to trap some lightning in a bottle and share it with the digital world."

Regarding how "The Permanent Decay" came together, Phil said: "I had some tracks I had written and submitted for a previous band, that were never used, and I really liked them. Dave McClain and I had worked some of them up, and I kept thinking of who would be perfect to sing on it. My wife plays in BLEEDING THROUGH with Brandan, he ended up writing all the vocals, and singing on it, and it came out killer. Ellefson and I had been talking at NAMM last year about doing something together, so when this came up, it was the perfect opportunity to do that as well. We don't know if we're a band, we don't know what we're doing, other than that we all played on this song, and that we dig it. No one knows what the future holds.”

Demmel announced his exit from MACHINE HEAD in October 2018, explaining at the time that he wanted "to step away and do something else musically."

Last spring, Demmel told the "In The Pitts Of Metal And Motor Chaos" podcast that MACHINE HEAD ended up becoming a Robb Flynn solo project toward the end of his time with the group. Demmel also said that the musical side of MACHINE HEAD took a sharp turn for the worse during the writing stage for "Catharsis", an album that he said he hated.

IRONFLAME Release Official Video For “Blood Red Cross”

U.S. heavy metal warriors Ironflame have released the official video for "Blood Red Cross," the second single from forthcoming album Blood Red Victory. The video was recorded by Ralf Stadler at 7er Club Mannheim, DE on September 11, 2019.

Recorded, performed, mixed, and mastered by D'Cagna (with guitar leads by Lukas and Scott) at Sacred Sound in Martins Ferry, OH from December 2018 through February 2019, Blood Red Victory finds Ironflame once again brandishing their trademark approach to soaring, triumphant heavy metal hymns. Regarding its subject matter, D'Cagna states, "There is a recurring theme of victory in the lyrics for this album. Some songs have an air of chest-out confidence; others are about overcoming adversaries or even adversity itself. Most have been written from a 'we/us' perspective, which makes the listener feel like, 'We're in this together.'"

Clocking in at ten tracks in just over 50 minutes, Blood Red Victory is sure to be a heavy metal favorite in 2020. As with past efforts from Ironflame, the disc will be a must-have for diehard fanatics of heavy metal's true legacy.

Tracklisting:

“Gates Of Evermore”
“Honor Bound”
“Seekers Of The Blade”
“Blood Red Cross”
“On Ashen Wings”
“Graves Of Thunder”
“Grace And Valor”
“Night Queen”
“The Serpent And The Throne”*
“Horns Held High”*

Bassist MIA WALLACE Says She Was 'Forced' To Leave ABBATH

Mia Wallace, bassist for TRIUMPH OF DEATH and NIRYTH, has announced has departure from ABBATH, the solo project of former IMMORTAL frontman Abbath.

Wallace broke the news of her exit from ABBATH in a social media post earlier today. She wrote: "It is with sadness I have been forced to part ways with ABBATH.

"It has been a challenging but exhilarating/exciting time and I am proud of my contribution to the 'Outstrider' album, the concerts, the videos for 'Harvest Pyre' and 'Hecate' and the visuals and promotion of the band in general.

"For me, being a part of ABBATH was a dream come true and I can say with my hand on my heart I have been loyal to the team and to Abbath himself. Everyone can see this from the Argentina concert where I stood on the stage until the bitter end. I have not always agreed with certain other people in the ABBATH camp and I have given my opinion honestly without anger or negative intent. Unfortunately not everyone can take this.

"I am disappointed that none of my former colleagues have contacted me in this process except for the five minute phone call from ABBATH's manager in which I was told I would no longer be needed. I was told not to contact anyone in the band. The explanation for this had no substance and just made more questions and confusion for me. Up until then I had been preparing for the European tour as I had been told to do. I had to cancel other plans, and get time off work for the tour which I spent much time preparing for.

"I am truly grateful for all the support from the fans, media, everyone at Season of Mist and collaborators of ABBATH! Thank you so much! It means everything to me in this difficult time. I also wish only the best for Abbath whom I will always admire as an artist and thank him for the opportunity he has given me. Now I shall focus on my next step. Several very interesting new projects are in the works. I promise you have not heard the last of me."

Earlier in the month, Abbath released a video message ahead of ABBATH's European tour, which kicked off last weekend in Bochum, Germany. In the short clip, recorded on January 5, Abbath — whose real name is Olve Eikemo — revealed that he was almost two months sober now following the cancelation of several shows on ABBATH's South American fall 2019 trek.

In late November, Abbath issued a statement saying that he had been battling addiction and vowing to commit himself to a rehab program that would help him "get clean once and for all."

Abbath's decision to enter rehab came just a couple of weeks after ABBATH played a disastrous two-song concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina, resulting in some fans requesting a refund.

ABBATH was touring South America in support of its second album, "Outstrider", which was released last July via Season Of Mist.

"Outstrider" marked ABBATH's second release since the frontman's exit from IMMORTAL. The highly publicized legal battle in 2014 over the rights to the IMMORTAL name pitted Abbath against co-founder Demonaz (real name: Harald Nævdal) and drummer Horgh (real name: Reidar Horghagen), with Abbath claiming the pair abandoned IMMORTAL after they moved their gear out of the band's rehearsal space. The Norwegian court systems determined otherwise, and awarded the IMMORTAL name to Demonaz.

It is with sadness I have been forced to part ways with Abbath. It has been a challenging but exhilarating/exciting time...

SHINEDOWN Scores 16th No. 1 At Rock Radio With 'Attention Attention'

SHINEDOWN has notched its sixteenth No. 1 single on the Mediabase Active Rock chart and its fifteenth No. 1 single on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart with its hit song "Attention Attention". The band has now tied the record for the most No. 1s ever on both of these charts.

"Attention Attention" is SHINEDOWN's fifth consecutive No. 1, following "How Did You Love" from SHINEDOWN's "Threat To Survival" album, and "Devil", "Get Up" and "Monsters", all from their latest critically acclaimed studio album "Attention Attention" (Atlantic Records), which simultaneously hit No. 1 on Billboard's Alternative, Top Rock, and Hard Rock Albums Charts, and debuted Top 5 on the Billboard 200. SHINEDOWN has amassed over 2.4 billion collective track streams and has racked up 324 million global streams for "Attention Attention".

Every one of SHINEDOWN's 26 consecutive singles has reached the Top 5 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart — an unparalleled achievement — and they continue to hold the record for the most Top 5s ever on this chart. "Attention Attention" also ties the band for the second most Top 10s ever on this chart. Additionally, "Devil" was recently certified gold by the RIAA.

SHINEDOWN was recently nominated for two iHeart Radio Music Awards, including "Rock Song Of The Year" for No. 1 rock hit "Monsters" and "Rock Artist Of The Year". The iHeart Radio Music Awards will air on Fox live from The Shrine in Los Angeles on March 29 at 8/7c.

The tour will include stops in Memphis, Houston, Austin, back-to-back nights at the House Of Blues in Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles at the legendary venue The Wiltern, and more. SHINEDOWN will also make headlining festival appearances at 98 Rockfest in Tampa, Earthday Birthday in Orlando, and Musikfest in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

DAVID ELLEFSON, CHRIS POLAND And Late MEGADETH Drummer GAR SAMUELSON Reunite On FATAL OPERA's Final Album

FATAL OPERA, the post-MEGADETH project of late classic-era drummer Gar Samuelson, will release its final LP, "Fatal Opera III", in the summer via Combat Records. The LP will also include guest appearances from ex-MEGADETH guitarist Chris Poland and MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson, who will appear on the track "The Raven", marking the first time Poland, Ellefson and Samuelson have appeared on a track together since MEGADETH's seminal "Peace Sells.. But Who's Buying". There will also be additional guest appearances from Poland, and NEW YORKERS bassist Robbie "Pags" Pagliari, marking the first time the original lineup of THE NEW YORKERS (Poland and Samuelson's pre-MEGADETH jazz/fusion project, also featuring guitarist Stew Samuelson) has appeared together on a commercial recording. Also making a guest appearance on "The Raven" is Ellefson vocalist, and Combat Records A&R, Thom Hazaert.

FATAL OPERA — Andy Freeman (vocals/keys), Stew Samuelson (guitar), Billy Brehme (guitar), Travis Karcher (bass) and Gar Samuelson (drums), formed in the early '90s, and released its self-titled debut in 1994, and independently released "Eleventh Hour" in 2018. "Fatal Opera III" is the final chapter in the band's legacy, featuring the final recordings of Samuelson, who passed away in 1999.

FATAL OPERA began work on a new album prior to Gar's passing, and the tracks sat for almost 20 years, until they were finally revisited. Enough tracks were found to create "Fatal Opera III", produced and mixed by Andy Freeman. The remaining members joined forces to finish the album that was started so many years ago, released in a fitting tribute and celebration to the legacy of Gar Samuelson, and FATAL OPERA.

Freeman says: "It was a long time in the making, but it truly was a labor of love, putting together this final release. It was an honor and a privilege to work with David and Thom, who helped make this album possible, and getting Chris and David together with Gar once again brought the whole project full circle. We are very pleased that it will finally see the light of day, and hope that it will be an offering to our fans, and a fitting final musical tribute to Gar."

Ellefson says: "Gar was one of the more unorthodox, unpredictable, and musically compelling drummers I've ever played with. His legacy continues to grow with the passage of time. So, it's an honor for me to have this posthumous performance with Gar, in honor of his incredible musicianship and legacy he left for us all to enjoy."

Hazaert adds: "After a few years of conversations with the FATAL OPERA guys, the record was close to completion, and the time was finally right to put it out. To be able to release Gar's final recordings, as well as the last things he did with his brother, Stew, also an intricate part of MEGA history, and to do it on Combat, is truly an honor. And when the idea was floated to have Ellefson and Poland on a track, and reunite the team one last time, I couldn't think of a more fitting tribute to the musical legacy and magic Gar, Chris and David helped bring to life on 'Killing Is My Business' and 'Peace Sells', and bringing Gar back to Combat where he started. And when Andy asked me to do guest vocals, I couldn't say yes fast enough. I have gotten to perform with both Ellefson and Poland, live, and on recordings, and to be able to participate in something so significant, and be on a track with both of them, as well as Gar, Stew, and the other guys from FATAL OPERA, as a fan, it truly is something I can't even put into words."

STONE SOUR Releases Demo Version Of 'The Bitter End' Song, Originally Titled 'Ending/Beginning'

STONE SOUR has released a demo version of the song "The Bitter End", originally titled "Ending/Beginning". "The Bitter End" appeared on the band's third studio album, "Audio Secrecy", which came out in 2010.

In a statement accompanying the YouTube release of the "Ending/Beginning" demo, STONE SOUR guitarist Josh Rand wrote: "The song 'Ending/Beginning' has an interesting story. The original idea was recorded during the 2000 Project X sessions, but I wasn't really happy with how it turned out. I felt it was missing something so we shelved it. Then in 2008 I rediscovered the track as I was backing up my hard drives. After listening to it, I figured I would mess with it a bit to see if I could make it better. 'The Bitter End' from the album 'Audio Secrecy' is ultimately what it would become 10 years later. Here is the original 2000 demo."

Rand recently said that he has "no idea" when STONE SOUR will release a new studio album. Asked in an interview with Guitar World if the band has started working yet on a follow-up to 2017's "Hydrograd", Rand replied: "To be honest, the band is on hiatus right now with no timetable on a return. It's a mixture of needing a break, plus Corey wants to do a solo album, so I don't know when there will be new STONE SOUR music."

Rand hinted that the band will release something next summer which he can't talk about yet, but also told The Pulse Of Radio he's working on another project to keep fans happy during the hiatus. "I archive like everything that we've done, so starting at the top of [2020], every week I'm going to release a demo or an alternate version of a song, starting from the very beginning. And then throughout the entire year will get us up to 'Hydrograd'. So I'm pretty excited about that."

STONE SOUR has been off the road and out of sight since completing the touring cycle for its 2017 LP "Hydrograd". Taylor has been working with SLIPKNOT since then, recording and currently touring behind that group's sixth effort, "We Are Not Your Kind". Rand is currently promoting STONE SOUR's new live album, "Hello, You Bastards: Live In Reno", which came out on December 13.

Taylor also recently told WhatCulture that he has already written 26 songs for his long-in-the-works solo album, which he has hinted at recording over the years.

THE WINERY DOGS future

In 2019, THE WINERY DOGS — Portnoy's power trio with bassist Billy Sheehan and guitarist Richie Kotzen — reunited for its first shows in nearly three years. According to Portnoy, the tour was "just for the fun of it — just for no other reason than to play together again, because it had been a few years. I think it reignited our love for each other, and I think it showed us that there's still so many fans out there that love this band. It reignited our desire to make another record, so I think as soon as we can, we will. Right now, Billy and I are going to be busy with SONS OF APOLLO and Richie is busy with his 50th-birthday project, so hopefully, our fingers are crossed that by mid-[2020], we can get together to start work on an album and hopefully, if all goes well, maybe have it out in '21."

ALL THAT REMAINS Singer Laments Lack Of Arrests In OLI HERBERT's Death

ALL THAT REMAINS singer Phil Labonte has lamented the fact that there have been no arrests in the case of the band's lead guitarist Oli Herbert following his untimely death more than a year ago.

After it was reported in the media that the estranged husband of a missing mother of five from Connecticut, Jennifer Dulos, was arrested in connection with her murder, Labonte took to his Twitter to write: "CT state police arrested Jen Dulos estranged husband and charged him with murder. They have not found a body.

"There's been no arrest in the Oli Herbert case even though his body was in the pond behind his house and there was ONE person there when it happened."

Phil ended his tweet with the hashtag #JusticeForOli.

Oli was found dead on October 16, 2018 at the edge of the pond on his Stafford Springs, Connecticut property. He was reported missing by his wife about 3 p.m., and his body was found by police face down at the edge of the pond where the water was only a few inches deep.

The Connecticut State Police Eastern District Crime Squad is investigating Herbert's death, which is being treated as suspicious. They are looking at the will he signed a week before his death as well as a life insurance policy mentioned in the will.

The will names Elizabeth Herbert as executor and sole benefactor. It says that Oliver Herbert's sister, Cynthia Herbert, should not become executor or receive anything from his estate. The will also states that Elizabeth Herbert should get all "property as well as any current or future earnings."

According to the Hartford Courant, state police have seized Elizabeth Herbert's computer and phone records as part of their investigation.

The couple were married for 14 years and lived in Stafford Springs for four years before Oli's death.

In a Facebook post, Elizabeth wrote that she had received a toxicology report from the medical examiner.

"Oli was apparently self-treating for manic-depression that has run in his family for several generations," she wrote. "Anti-depressants were found in his system, as well as a sleep aid."

Last year, Labonte called Elizabeth Herbert a "garbage human being" who was "never allowed" to join the band on tour. "She would come to the local shows, because we couldn't stop her from showing up," he explained. "[But] she wasn't allowed because she's a garbage human being."

According to the singer, he tried unsuccessfully to convince Oli to get a divorce for a long time. "I can't tell you exactly why he wouldn't do it or what the circumstances [were] surrounding his resistance," he said. "I don't know. But I can say that I personally talked to him multiple times and said, 'Look, if you need a place to stay, I've got plenty of room. Come to my house."

Asked if he had an opinion on how Oli died, the singer responded: "I do have an opinion on it, but I'm not gonna say. There is an ongoing investigation by the Connecticut state police."

Herbert began playing guitar at 14. He co-founded ALL THAT REMAINS with Labonte in 1998.

The surviving members of ALL THAT REMAINS — Labonte, Mike Martin (guitar), Jason Costa (drums) and Aaron Patrick (bass, backing vocals) — have recruited guitar virtuoso and YouTube personality Jason Richardson (ALL SHALL PERISH, CHELSEA GRIN, BORN OF OSIRIS) to replace Herbert.

CT state police arrested Jen Dulos estranged husband and charged him with murder. They have not found a body.

RUBIKON Release "Lost September" Music Video; New Album Out This Friday

Rubikon is back after four years with The Record, out this Friday, September 20, via Round Hill Records. A video for the new single, "Lost September", can be seen below.

Rubikon is more than a band, it’s a true brotherhood. Five friends who love making music together, and they have a hell of a time doing it.

The Record brings the band back to the basics, creating songs that are just good. At the same time elevating their sound into full-tilt overdrive with their high-energy, in your face, heavy rock melodies. The songs expand on their signature sound but they are tighter and hit harder; there’s a wider dynamic range and a more experimental approach in bringing in a variety of instruments such as pedal-steel guitar, baritone saxophone, and even a banjo and mandolin.

For the recording process, the band assembled at Sienna Studios in Nashville (formerly Quad Studios where they recorded Delta), working with engineer-mixer Tim Brennan (Steven Tyler, Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Gretchen Wilson). The Record features the usual Rubikon suspects – Jae Sims (vocals), Josh Gruss (guitars), Dave Raymond (guitars), Hugh Eaton (bass), and Doug Arsham (drums and vocals) – but also includes guest spots from Elisha Hoffman (mandolin, banjo, acoustic guitar), Drew Belk (pedal steel), and Randy Leago (saxophone). The album was recorded live (the band admits to a handful of overdubs) and was mastered by Alex McCollough (Robert Plant, John Prine, Amanda Shires).

The result brought Rubikon’s distinctive style to such hard rock bangers as “Blood On My Hands”, the first single (video below), and a song about taking personal ownership of how we interact and treat people in todays’ world. “What does the time ripple of an insult or an outburst of anger do to a person?” asks Sims. “’Blood On My Hands’ is a celebration of our differences, but at the same time a warning to one’s self about what our personal actions need to look like.”

Listeners will also find a new classic rock leaning side of the band on songs such as the pedal-steel laced “Devil’s Footsteps”, which showcases a mellower side of their songwriting. “It deals with the loss of innocence. A time forgotten. Something you look back on and long for,” says Sims. “For me, it also touches on the vicious cycle of addiction and the internal battle not to follow in the devil's footsteps.” All of the songs on The Record weave stories that meld together to create an intense musical mixture of hard rock riffs, rootsy rhythms, and soaring melodic vocals.

After three full-length albums, a couple of EPs, and some serious time crammed into a van/RV touring the country and playing with such bands as Disturbed, Black Label Society, Damageplan, Sevendust, Shinedown, and Nonpoint to name a few, The Record finds Rubikon in a more experimental place, but the constant elements remain the same: five friends who love making music together, playing for their fans, and having a great time doing it.

As singer Sims notes, “Rock n' roll never dies. We want to restore a little organic humanity back into music. No frills, just rock. No genres, just good songs.”

DIMMU BORGIR Guitarist: 'Hopefully It Won't Take As Long To Release A New Album This Time'

DIMMU BORGIR fans will not have to wait another eight years for the group follow-up to 2018's "Eonian" album. Guitarist Sven Atle Kopperud (a.k.a. Silenoz) confirmed to Extreme Metal Festival News in a new interview that he and his bandmates already have plenty of ideas for the group's next disc.

"For the previous album, we could have done a double album because we had so much material to take from, and I'm sure some of the stuff that we didn't use could be used on the next album," he said. "Apart from that, each one of us has so many ideas, so when we actually get together, there is never a shortage of material. It's all about trying to arrange it within the feel or mood of the band at the moment, so hopefully it won't take as long to release a new album this time. After this [European] tour [with AMORPHIS], we are going to take a quick break and then we are going to try to churn it all into a new album, so to speak."

Asked if that means that DIMMU BORGIR's next album will be a choir-heavy affair once again, Silenoz said: "Without saying too much, because we haven't really decided on anything yet, as we try not to pre-decide what the album will sound like as we try and just go with the flow, but I think the feeling within the band now is that we want to take a more aggressive turn. And now with [bassist] Victor [Brandt] in the band, with him also being a guitarist, there will be four of us writing guitar riffs. It would surprise me if the album will be more guitar-orientated, which I don't mind."

Silenoz also praised Brandt's contributions to DIMMU, saying that Victor was the band's "first choice" when looking for a new bassist. "He's not only a great musician, he went to music school, he's a great songwriter and he has really lifted that rhythm section in the band," Silenoz said. "He plays with a pick and does the backing vocals and also offstage he is a very cool guy to be around. On tour, it's basically me, Victor and Gerlioz that are party central. [Laughs] He has been a really great addition to the band and he has filled that role really, really well. He is also very conscious about his equipment, he is very up to date with everything, and always wants to improve his sound and playing."

According to Silenoz, Victor will be involved in the songwriting process for DIMMU's next album. "He's been throwing several ideas at us, and he is never short of material, so I'm sure that some of his stuff is going to be used one way or another," he said. "It's always cool to have a different input to help break it up. I'm looking forward to making new music with him and he will be a great addition to the songwriting process."

"Eonian" was released right in time for the band's 25th anniversary in 2018, about eight years after its predecessor, "Abrahadabra". Since then, the infernal core trio consisting of Shagrath, Silenoz and Galder has played various tours all around the world, including shows at leading metal festivals such as Wacken Open Air and Hellfest.

TOM KEIFER Releases Music Video For 'Hype'

CINDERELLA frontman Tom Keifer has released a compelling, high-energy music video for "Hype", the raucous, heavy, second single from his sophomore solo album, "Rise". The song and video speak directly to life in our current culture.

"'Hype' reflects the over-stimulation, endless information and clever deception that we are bombarded with in today's society," explained Keifer. "Computers, devices, Internet, news, social media, politics, television…all coming at us from every angle around the clock. It's becoming harder and harder to separate reality from illusion. The song and video mirror the world of overload we are all living in and its exhaustive effect. Not all aspects of the information age are bad or even new, for that matter, but the sum of it all, amplified though today's technology, at times can really make us feel like… 'All in overload about to blow the height of a new low - Scream like hell drown out all this hype.'"

The Vicente Cordero-directed video for "Hype" — written by Tom Keifer and Savannah Keifer — can now be viewed below.

In touring news, Keifer and #keiferband (Savannah Keifer, Tony Higbee, Billy Mercer, Kendra Chantelle, Jarred Pope, Kory Myers) will continue the "Rise" tour throughout 2020, bringing their potent, high-energy show to a city near you.

"Rise" was released in September via Cleopatra Records. Produced by Tom, Savannah and Kyle O'Connor, the disc scales renewed sonic heights. From the tasty slide work that stamps "Touching The Divine", the nontraditionally arranged, heavy, dark jam of "Untitled", the breakneck thrust of "All Amped Up" to the tender coda of "You Believe In Me", "Rise" signifies the ongoing evolution of the CINDERELLA frontman as a person, songwriter, and bandleader. It's the aural portrait of an artist who, to borrow a phrase, is still climbing

"When this band came together, we all felt a bit like broken souls, each with our own unique story," Tom explained. "If you ask anyone in the band, they would all say this band came along at just the right time. Every human who walks this planet faces challenges and extreme adversity they have to overcome. As a band, we feel fortunate to be able to face those things together. There is a piece of every band member in the 'The Death Of Me' as well as throughout the entire 'Rise' album."

The common thread to each song on "Rise" is the intuitive interplay between each member of #keiferband, a tight but loose collective that's spent the last six-plus years on the road honing their live craft together in support of Keifer's critically acclaimed 2013 solo debut, "The Way Life Goes". "Rise" is the studio-bred equivalent of a band just now realizing the full scope of its powers.

"We were trying to capture the feeling of what people have witnessed live with this band," Keifer explained. "There's an off-the-rails, real live feel to 'Rise' — and that's what we were going for. It shows a real kind of angst and reckless abandon that we tried not to polish too much. And when we pull it back on the ballads, it's more about the emotion, the soul, and making people feel something in a different way."

"To me, the perfect rock and roll record is perfectly fucked up," Keifer said with a hearty laugh. "You try to make each record interesting and different. I don't ever want to make the same record twice, even though there's a common thread between them. Everything doesn't have to be perfectly in place, but there is a balance you try to strike. Sometimes there may be something about it that's technically not 'right,' but there's a vibe, an energy and an attitude to it that I always try to preserve."

DISTURBED Vocalist Says 'It Didn't Make Sense' To Continue His Now-Defunct 'Experiment' DEVICE

DISTURBED vocalist David Draiman recently spoke with Brent Porche of the Philadelphia radio station 93.3 WMMR. The full conversation can be streamed below. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On 2020 marking the 20th anniversary of the band's debut album, "The Sickness":

David: "This entire touring cycle — this section of the touring cycle, if you will — is going to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of 'The Sickness', so you'll be getting a lot more material from the record. You'll be getting some surprises. We're very proud of it. It's amazing looking back that it's been that long. It doesn't feel that long, but I guess that's a good thing. We definitely want to pay tribute to what started it all for us, and we're looking forward to really digging deep."

On whether the band plans to record more music in the near future:

David: "We're always toying with stuff, always working on things. I don't think we're ready to unleash an entire new record any time soon, but you never know – a song here, a song there, and then we'll see what happens."

On the band's 2020 touring plans beyond their currently announced spring concerts:

David: "We've definitely got some interesting stuff cooking. It's not just going to be a spring thing for us, that's for sure. How much longer? That I can't talk about. [Laughs]"

On his now-defunct side project, DEVICE:

David: "It was a great experiment. It was incredible to collaborate with so many other legendary artists. I was truly, truly blessed, but it's so tough to build something from scratch these days, especially when you come from the big machine and you go to the smaller machine, and you're at this stage of your life and your career. It's, like, 'Why am I doing this?' It didn't make sense. When you get to a point when you're more than six figures in the red and you're still going because you're not sure why, you stop. You have to do stuff that makes sense. I always feel terrible for new and struggling artists these days who really have to put their shoulders to the grindstone and just do what they have to do to survive. It's not easy out there for anyone. Even with somebody who has the pedigree, it's tough to get things done."

On whether DISTURBED will ever resurrect its "Music As A Weapon" tour:

David: "I don't know. I doubt as a traveling entity. I know that we've toyed around with the idea of making it something location-based in the right situation and scenario, but it's tough because the market is so flooded with location-based festivals at this point, particularly in the rock genre. It's tough to find the right spot and the right time. Who knows? Never say never. There's so many other organizations that are already doing a decent job, it's, like, 'Why take it all on yourself?'"

On the advice he wishes he could give his younger self:

David: "I would have told myself to just take it easy. I took too many things maybe a little too seriously over the course of my career, and I think if life experiences taught me anything, it's, 'You know what? Enjoy life. Take it easy.'"

On feeling bullish about DISTURBED's future:

David: "I think that one of the beautiful things about DISTURBED and its development has been that it's always been this nice, gradual, upward climb. It's nice to be a part of something that's continuing to grow over the course of its lifetime. I really don't need too much else other than my family and my career, and I'm very, very blessed with both things."

DISTURBED — whose latest album, "Evolution", was released via Reprise in October of 2018 — recently released a music video for the song "Hold On To Memories". The clip was directed by Matt Mahurin, who previously helmed the video for the band's cover of SIMON & GARFUNKEL's "The Sound Of Silence".

In September, DISTURBED's song "No More" reached No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart. The track marked the group's seventh straight No. 1 on the chart, and tenth overall. Each of DISTURBED's last seven singles has reached No. 1 on Mainstream Rock Songs, a feat unmatched by any other artist.

ABSU Calls It Quits

Black metallers ABSU have split up.

Longtime drummer and vocalist Russ Givens, who goes by the stage name Proscriptor McGovern, broke the news of the band's breakup in a social media post earlier today.

He wrote: "After meager deliberation and zero remorse, I have decided to dissolve ABSU after three decades of existence. Collectively and universally speaking, this decision is finite due to insoluble circumstances, which has led to this ultimate result. No amount of time, exertion, formula or fashion can alter my verdict.

"Refusing to further comment on the subject, I leave thee with the following enchantment:

"{Vii} For there are bitter waters of Chaos held immobile under (the) ground – And the Sovereigns, who personify them, reign over Opacities and Beyond.

"[II] Beseech these All-Begetters in darkness, outside the circles of time. In Chaos’ sleight of hand, the Deep will respond.”

"{Vi} Never Blow Out The Eastern Candle —

"Proscriptor McGovern (Russ R. Givens)"

Back in 2018, Melissa Moore, better known as ABSU guitarist Vis Crom, said that she was no longer in the band, blaming her bandmates' reaction to her coming out as transgender for her exit. She said at the time: "The most fucked up transphobia from my bandmates is what happened. The band is broken up and I am still at a loss on how to handle it. It is ONLY because I am trans."

ABSU came to prominence with the release of its 1993 debut, "Barathrum: V.I.T.R.I.O.L.", but it was with 2001's "Tara" that the band truly arrived. The album reached top lists of countless magazines worldwide. Years, however, would pass before any new material would be recorded. In late 2007, the band finally announced its re-awakening. The band would take nearly sixteen months writing/recording its sixth album, "Absu", which was released early 2009. The second installment of what was meant to be a trilogy, "Abzu", arrived in 2011.

For Immediate Release – January 27, 2020

METALLICA's LARS ULRICH Pays Tribute To REED MULLIN: 'Thank You For Making CORROSION OF CONFORMITY Swing Like Nothing Else'

METALLICA's Lars Ulrich has paid tribute to CORROSION OF CONFORMITY drummer Reed Mullin who died on Monday, January 27. He was 53 years old.

Earlier today (Tuesday, January 28), Ulrich took to his Instagram to write: "Reed.. Thank you for the crazy good times we had together. Thank you for always having the biggest smile on your face. And thank you for the fuckin grooves and that pocket that was all your own...making CORROSION OF CONFORMITY swing like nothing else! Rest In Peace brother."

Reed's bandmates confirmed his passing in a social media post Monday night. They wrote: "Reed, It's with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a friend, a brother and pioneer. Love and condolences to the family, friends and fans who will miss you and thanks for the music"

Mullin, who co-founded CORROSION OF CONFORMITY in 1982 as a hardcore punk act alongside bassist Mike Dean and guitarist Woody Weatherman, had missed a number of shows in the past four years due to a variety of health issues, including an alcohol-related seizure he suffered back in June 2016.

Last summer, Dean said that Mullin needed "to take care of himself and get his shit together" before rejoining the band. "And if that happens, the door's open for him," Mike told the "Talk Toomey" podcast. "And if it doesn't, well, that's how it is. People need to wanna help themselves. You can't just push them to get help — they've gotta wanna help themselves."

When Mullin suffered his alcohol-related seizure four years ago, Dean said in a statement that the episode had been "preceded by prolonged, extreme and unhealthy levels of alcohol consumption, not taking care of himself and who knows what else."

Mike went on to say that he and his bandmates would "not enable Reed to continue killing himself on our watch."

HYBORIAN Debut "Expanse" Music Video

Progressive sludge metal outfit, Hyborian, will release their sophomore effort, aptly titled Volume II, on March 20. A music video for the second single, "Expanse", can be seen below:

The conceptual record picks up where their debut record left off and is accompanied by a 224-page sci-fi novel, The Traveller, which was penned entirely by Hyborian guitarist/vocalist Martin Bush.

A summary of the book is as follows: "The universe is filled with beginnings. Life springs anew in a constant cycle of birth and rebirth, billions upon billions of beginnings, intrinsically linked, each influencing the beginnings that will come after. Every ending is in and of itself a new beginning; what once was, by the very act of ending, becomes the beginning of what is to follow. This particular beginning begins at the end; the end of everything. The universe is dying. It is in the final stages of passing out of existence, which is a beginning as well, the beginning of what comes after. The cycle continues, cascading in an unending series of births and deaths, all linked, each one shaped by the beginnings that preceded it.

"The universe is dying, but it will begin again."

To celebrate the release, Hyborian will be performing an album release show on March 20 at The Riot Room in their hometown of Kansas City, MO, in which they will be supported by label-mates The Lion's Daughter. The event will be sponsored by 98.9 FM.

THANATOS - Dutch Death Metal Pioneers Release Lyric Video For "Violent Death Rituals"

Thanatos are celebrating 35 years of fully dedicated fierce death fuckin' thrash metal. Admittedly, they absolutely still sound incredibly and accurately relevant to today's metal scene, thanks to their utterly implacable material. Saying their seventh album, Violent Death Rituals, sounds removed from their original early Slayer, Possessed, Kreator influences would be a mistake. They have undoubtedly honed their vehemently powerful sound over the years to become a purely individual relentless machine.

Their uncompromising new album, Violent Death Rituals is just pure catchy madness, Thanatos thoughtfully pace their songs for maximum ferocious headbanging folly, their furiously sharp arrangements contain so many well balanced acute melodies and enough murderous riffing to crush any fan in genuine extreme metal music history. Fuckin' Hell awaits in 2020.

Violent Death Rituals will be released in Europe on March 20, and in North America on April 3, via Listenable Records. Pre-order the album here, and watch a lyric video for the title track below.

Band leader Stéphan Gebédi comments: "As a first appetizer for our upcoming album Violent Death Rituals we chose to do a (lyric) video for the title track. It starts off rather slowly and builds a lot of tension, until it explodes into a fast, relentless death/thrash metal monster! Ferocious drum beats, pulsating bass lines, two howling guitar solos and aggressive vocals make sure this album starts off with a giant kick in the teeth!"

Violent Death Rituals was produced by the band themselves and mixed by Dan Swanö. Artwork created by Roberto Toderico.

Tracklisting:

"Violent Death Rituals"
"The Silent War"
"Unholy Predators"
"The Outer Darkness"
"Burn The Books Of Hate"
"It Always Ends In Blood"
"Corporate Indoctrination"
"Sent From Hell (I Infidel)"
"Legacy Of The Gods"
"As The Cannons Fade"

"Violent Death Rituals" lyric video:

This album marks the debut of drummer Martin Ooms and bass player Mous Mirer (both ex-Melechesh and ex-Liar Of Golgotha) who have joined guitarist Paul Baayens and founding member Stephan Gebédi (vocals/guitars) in their never-ending quest for death and destruction.

Lineup:

Stephan Gebédi - Vocals / Guitar
Paul Baayens - Guitar
Marco de Bruin - Bass
Martin Ooms - Drums

STEEL PROPHET Release Official Lyric Video For "Damnation Calling"

Los Angeles-based heavy/power metal legends, Steel Prophet, are back with their new massive sounding album, The God Machine, released on April 26th, 2019 via ROAR! Rock Of Angels Records. A lyric video for the track "Damnation Calling" can be viewed below.

Five years after the release of Omniscient, the band recruited the all-star heavy metal singer/producer R.D. Liapakis of Mystic Prophecy/Devil's Train and his uniquely ranged vocal skills to perfectly match the songs on The God Machine. R.D. Liapakis is not just the man behind the microphone though since he, alongside Steve Kachinsky is responsible for the songwriting and production process of the album.

The voice of R.D. Liapakis sounds tough, bluesy and strong, with wide range, power and style. The high notes come effortlessly, and the lead vocals make you want to stand up and wail along with his singing. The drums sound huge and perfectly combine that old-school punch feeling you get in classic heavy metal albums while sounding fresh and up to date at the same time. The guitar work on the album sounds like all the hallowed marks of heavy metal classics with speedy licks and fast, furious and melodic riffs and solos complimented by fat bass lines that anchor all instruments into a magnificent combo highlighting the amazing vocal lines.

Each song is a delight by itself and elements of thrash, doom, and even some Scorpions-tinged melodicism can be found in the band's US power metal. If you live and breathe the spirit of heavy metal you will be astonished by The God Machine in its entirety.

Produced by Steve Kachinsky and R.D. Liapakis (Mystic Prophecy, Devil’s Train, Suicidal Angels, Firewind, Eldritch, Silius, FireForce and many more). Mixed and mastered by “Best Producer 2017-Heavy Music Award” winner Henrik Udd at Henrik Udd Recording Studios (Architects, Bring Me The Horizon, Hammerfall, Powerwolf etc), who gave The God Machine a smooth and polished, yet brutally heavy sound.

The album starts with the absolute banger album title song, “The God Machine”, featuring furious rhythms, fast riffing and catchy arena choruses preparing the ground for “Crucify” which along with “Dark Mask / Between Love And Hate” will catapult the listener back to the best NWOBHM years while “Thrashed Relentlessly” is the definition of US power metal riffing! Songs like “Damnation Calling” and “Lucifer / The Devil Inside” will bring in mind the mighty “Headless Cross” Black Sabbath, Tony Martin era. The album’s multidimensional yet classic heavy metal mark is ultimately revealed to the listener as soon as the power ballad “Buried And Broken” kicks in! The God Machine is a high quality metal album that will become an instant classic among Steel Prophet’s catalogue.

Tracklisting:

"The God Machine"
"Crucify"
"Thrashed Relentlessly"
"Dark Mask / Between Love And Hate"
"Damnation Calling"
"Soulhunter"
"Buried And Broken"
"Lucifer / The Devil Inside"

LOST SYMPHONY Enlist Rock / Metal Legends For Debut Album; Video Streaming For "This Live Moves To Fast" Feat. DAVID ELLEFSON, JEFF LOOMIS & JIMI BELL

Seemingly out of nowhere comes one of the year’s most impressive and largest collaborations in the rock/metal scene.

Lost Symphony, a band founded by brothers Benny (multi-instrumentalist, producer) and Brian Goodman (compositions, arrangement), along with co-conspirators Cory Paza (bass, guitar), Kelly Kereliuk (guitar), Paul Lourenco (drums) and Starset’s Siobhán Cronin (violin, viola), have found a mind-blowing intersection of the crossroads of classical and heavy metal and created a massive new instrumental record that features collaborations with talented and legendary names in heavy rock and metal including past and present members/contributors from Guns N’ Roses, All That Remains, Starset, Cradle Of Filth, Nevermore, Steel Panther, Trans-Siberian Orchestra among many others.

The first album, Chapter I, in a series of upcoming releases will debut on March 27 via XOff Records and is available for pre-order now

Today, Lost Symphony has released Chapter I’s first new track, “This Life Moves Too Fast” (feat. David Ellefson, Jeff Loomis and Jimi Bell). Stream the single here, and watch the video below.

The journey to Lost Symphony began in 2015. After crafting an initial classical demo, Benny chose to find guitar players to bring it to life. Discovering Kelly and Conrad Simon online, he began sending music back and forth collecting incredible solos. The project began taking shape when All That Remains drummer Jason Costa provided drum tracks, which led to bringing the late ATR guitarist Oli Herbert into the fold.

“We basically spent weeks in my basement putting songs together,” recalls Benny. “Oli thoughtfully constructed lead guitar parts for several of our songs and was a key collaborator. We sat and worked on everything note for note from start-to-finish. Oli brought legitimacy to this. He was like our ambassador. When he’d call other guitarists, they’d pick up the phone.”

After years of piecing together the project under the radar, Benny introduces it to the world in 2020, sharing one-song per week for two months accompanied by exclusive recording footage. The first single “This Life Moves Too Fast” [feat. David Ellefson, Jeff Loomis, & Jimi Bell] gallops forward on a hummable riff punctuated by sweeping violin, propulsive bass, and lyrical fretwork. Uniting Loomis, Ellefson, and Bell, it ebbs and flows between moments of scorching soloing and orchestral reprieve.

Chapter I tracklisting:

"Singularity" (feat. Oli Herbert, Bumblefoot & Ethan Brosh)
"Premeditated Destruction" (feat. Brock Richards, Richard Shaw, Jimi Bell & Matt LaPierre)
"This Life Moves Too Fast" (feat. David Ellefson, Jeff Loomis & Jimi Bell)
"I Felt A Funeral In My Brain" (feat. David Ellefson & Joey Concepcion)
"Cotard Delusion" (feat. Oli Herbert & Satchel)
"Catnip High" (feat. Conrad Simon & Matt LaPierre)
"In A World" (feat. Oli Herbert, Matt LaPierre & Conrad Simon)
"Requiem" (feat. Marty Friedman, Oli Herbert, Matt LaPierre & Conrad Simon)
"Lacrimosa" (feat. Oli Herbert & Angel Vivaldi)
