BLACK BREATH Bassist ELIJAH NELSON Dies
Elijah Nelson, bassist for the Seattle death metal band BLACK BREATH, passed away over the weekend. No cause of death has yet been revealed. He was 40 years old.
A number of other artists have paid tribute to Nelson in the wake of his passing, including Swedish extreme grindcore act NASUM, who wrote: "We are obviously saddened by the news of Elijah Nelson's passing. BLACK BREATH were very important to NASUM during the final leg of the farewell tour. Elijah was the Cliff Burton of death metal and he will be missed."
Cleveland's metallic hardcore legends RINGWORM wrote: "See you on the other side Elijah Nelson. Sad news. RINGWORM sends nothing but light and love to you and yours brother. Enlightened travels in the beyond, young wizard."
BLACK BREATH's latest album, "Slaves Beyond Death", was released in September 2015 via Southern Lord. The disc was recorded with Kurt Ballou (CONVERGE) at GodCity and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (NAILS, INTEGRITY, OBITUARY).
Upon its release, "Slaves Beyond Death" was praised for exhuming the classic Stockholm deathcrush of DISMEMBER and ENTOMBED through a merciless d-beat hardcore delivery.
BLACK BREATH has toured North America, Europe, Japan and Australia alongside the likes of NASUM, NAILS, CONVERGE, VICTIMS, TORMENTED, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, CHRISTIAN MISTRESS, NOOTHGRUSH, RISE AND FALL, RINGWORM, YAUTJA and MUTILATION RITES, and has supported NEUROSIS, NAPALM DEATH, ROTTEN SOUND, ENTOMBED, SUNN O))), WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, AUTOPSY, D.R.I., AMORPHIS, TRAGEDY, FROM ASHES RISE and other acts. The group has also performed at major festivals and events, including Maryland Deathfest, Sonisphere, Hellfest, Tuska, Fluff Fest, SXSW, New England Metal & Hardcore Festival, Roadburn and Power Of The Riff.
BLACK BREATH has been largely inactive for the past three years.

NUNO BETTENCOURT On JOEY KRAMER's Dispute With AEROSMITH: 'It's Nobody's Business To Judge'
EXTREME guitarist Nuno Bettencourt has slammed the media for its coverage of Joey Kramer's dispute with the rest of AEROSMITH, saying that "they are, and always will be, brothers."
Earlier in the week, Kramer filed a lawsuit against his bandmates for preventing him from performing with them at Sunday's Grammy Awards as well as last night's 30th-anniversary MusiCares benefit gala, where AEROSMITH was honored as the 2020 MusiCares Person Of The Year.
Kramer ended up joining his AEROSMITH bandmates as they accepted the 2020 MusiCares Person Of The Year award at the Los Angeles Convention Center, but did not perform with the group.
Bettencourt, who also played at the MusiCares benefit gala, took to his social media Friday night to share a photo of him with Kramer and included the following message: "Here at Grammy's Music Cares... backstage with the one and only JOEY KRAMER!!! The backbone that is AEROSMITH. He IS being honored tonight along with with the bad boys from Boston.
"Unfortunately... today's Supreme Court.... Social Media... started ripping the band, and all artists associated with honoring these guys, after seeing a pathetic TMZ... showing the private trials and tribulations that bands go through.
"50 years these guys have survived EVERYTHING... more than ANY band on this fucking planet. And yes, bands, we fight, we breakup, we reunite... but it's nobody's business to judge. As none of us are on the inside. So when you see a clip that's out of context... of their true reality from a network who makes their money basically stalking and making fun of celebrities and artists in their weakest periods and lows of their personal lives.... just know that JOEY KRAMER is here... why? Because THEY ARE AND ALWAYS WILL BE BROTHERS. regardless if they sometimes have to be pulled apart like family and can't rehearse and play together... for now."
The MusiCares gala took place two days after a Massachusetts judge ruled against Kramer in his bid to perform with AEROSMITH at two Grammy-related events this weekend.
After Kramer injured his shoulder last year, his drum tech filled in for a few gigs during AEROSMITH's residency in Las Vegas. Kramer did, however, perform with the rest of AEROSMITH in July at the Twin Cities Summer Jam in Shakopee.
When Kramer arrived at a rehearsal studio in Los Angeles earlier this week to play with his AEROSMITH bandmates, he was met with two apologetic security guards, who informed him that the other four members of the group hired them to keep him from entering the venue.
In a statement, Kramer said he was "extremely disappointed" with the judge's ruling.
"I knew filing a lawsuit was a bit of an uphill battle," the drummer said. "I can hold my head high knowing that I did the right thing — to fight for my right to celebrate the band’s success that I have dedicated the better part of my life to helping build."

JOEY KRAMER Joins AEROSMITH Bandmates At MusiCares Benefit Gala, But Doesn't Perform With Them: Video, Photos
Joey Kramer joined his AEROSMITH bandmates as they accepted the 2020 MusiCares Person Of The Year award last night (Friday, January 24) at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
After entertainment lawyer Dina LaPolt introduced the group as the night's honoree ("They are brothers. They refer to each other as brothers and they even fight like brothers," she said), all five members took the stage, but only Kramer and singer Steven Tyler spoke.
Tyler told the audience: "Remember, people only really get interesting when they start to rattle the bars on their cages. And the best way to make your dreams come true is to wake up." Kramer then thanked MusiCares, fans, his wife and the music industry before exiting the stage.
Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford then brought out Kramer's drum tech, John Douglas, for performances of "Big Ten Inch", "Dream On" and "Sweet Emotion", after which they were joined by Johnny Depp and Alice Cooper.
Also appearing at the event were Sammy Hagar, CHEAP TRICK, FOO FIGHTERS, Gary Clark Jr., Jonas Brothers and LeAnn Rimes, among others.
MusiCares provides financial, medical and personal assistance to musicians in need. Since being launched in 1989, MusiCares has distributed more than $60 million to music industry members in need.

Read Judge's Full Decision Denying JOEY KRAMER's Right To Play With AEROSMITH At GRAMMY AWARDS
A Massachusetts judge's ruling against founding AEROSMITH drummer Joey Kramer in his bid to perform with the legendary rock band at two Grammy-related events this weekend has been uploaded to the digital reading subscription service Scribd and can now be found below.
Plymouth County Superior Court Judge Mark Gildea denied Kramer's request to order his AEROSMITH bandmates to let him participate in Friday's MusiCares benefit honoring AEROSMITH and on Sunday's Grammy Awards.
After Kramer injured his shoulder last year, his drum tech filled in for a few gigs during AEROSMITH's residency in Las Vegas. Kramer did, however, perform with the rest of AEROSMITH in July at the Twin Cities Summer Jam in Shakopee.
"Given that Kramer has not played with the band in six months and the dearth of available rehearsal time before the upcoming performances, Kramer has not shown a realistic alternative course of action sufficient to protect the band's business interests," Gildea wrote in his decision.
On Tuesday, the other four members of AEROSMITH — Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford — issued a statement that said in part: "Joey Kramer is our brother; his well-being is of paramount importance to us. However, he has not been emotionally and physically able to perform with the band, by his own admission, for the last 6 months. We have missed him and have encouraged him to rejoin us to play many times but apparently he has not felt ready to do so…. We are bonded together by much more than our time on stage."
In his 16-page complaint filed in Massachusetts state court, Kramer said the disability he suffered last year was minor, and insisted he was ready to return to the group's "lucrative" Las Vegas residency at the MGM Resorts a few months later, as well as its slate of "50th anniversary activities." Kramer also claimed he was required to audition for his drumming job to prove he could play at "an appropriate level."
"To be removed from my rightful place on stage to celebrate our success — a success that acknowledges my own life’s work, is just plain wrong," Kramer said.

HÄLLAS Sign With Napalm Records; European Tour To Launch In March
The mind-bending retro fantasy of Swedish adventure rock pioneers, Hällas, has just reached a whole new frontier. The band has taken the next step of their collective journey by signing a worldwide contract with Napalm Records (excl. Nordics).
Founded in the northern parts of Småland, Sweden in 2011, Hällas saw their initial breakthrough with their highly-acclaimed most recent album, Excerpts From A Future Past, and the hit single “Star Rider”. Fans outside of the Nordic countries - don’t fret! After the album’s release in Scandinavia on January 31, Conundrum will be available internationally via Napalm Records. The release is currently planned for spring 2020.
Hällas on the signing: “We are excited to announce that Napalm Records will be responsible for the release of our new album Conundrum outside of Scandinavia. LAST IN LINE Begins Recording Third Album
LAST IN LINE has entered Steakhous studio in North Hollywood, California to begin recording its third album. The follow-up to last year's "II" is tentatively due before the end of the year via an as-yet-undisclosed record label.
Speaking to Heavy New York at last weekend's NAMM show in Anaheim, California, frontman Andrew Freeman stated about the LAST IN LINE songwriting process: "It's very organic now. We're not really trying to be anything but who we are. That being said, I do stay in the parameters of what I think our audience is. But I don't think we really know what our audience is. 'Cause we have the [BLACK] SABBATH connection, we have the RAINBOW connection, [and] we have the [DEF] LEPPARD connection. And a lot of our audience comes from the LEPPARD audience, and the DIO audience as well, but there's a whole new audience that's coming.
"I'm trying to keep it where I'm not writing about chicks and cars, like a typical '80s record would be," he explained. "I try to keep it thought-provoking. It's not very fantasy-oriented, lyric-wise. It's more what's going on today — more of a street perspective, like a real-person perspective; not rainbows and unicorns and dragons."
Formed in 2012 by drummer Vinny Appice, bassist Jimmy Bain and guitarist Vivian Campbell — Ronnie James Dio's co-conspirators and co-writers on the "Holy Diver", "Last In Line" and "Sacred Heart" albums — LAST IN LINE's initial intent was to celebrate Ronnie James Dio's early work by reuniting the members of the original DIO lineup. After playing shows that featured a setlist composed exclusively of material from the first three DIO albums, the band decided to move forward and create new music in a similar vein.
LAST IN LINE's debut album, "Heavy Crown", was released in February 2016, landing at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. Initially, the release had been preceded by tragedy when Bain unexpectedly passed away at the age of 68 on January 23, 2016. LAST IN LINE, honoring what they knew would be Bain's wish to keep the band moving, brought in Phil Soussan and committed to sustained touring in support of the album before beginning work on the follow-up release, the aforementioned "II".
Campbell revealed in a recent interview with the "Pat's Soundbytes Unplugged" podcast that LAST IN LINE is seeking a new record label home after issuing two albums through Italy's Frontiers Music Srl. | +2 | |

MANTICORA Officially Welcome Back Bassist KASPER GRAM
Danish thrash/power concept masters, Manticora, are welcoming back their former bass player extraordinaire, Kasper Gram.
Kasper originally joined the band in 2002 on the third album, Hyperion, and laid his thunderous patterns on the bass strings up and until late 2013, when he decided to leave to pursue other musical endeavours. In January 2019, he began playing with Manticora again, due to the departure of Sebastian Andersen (who had filled in for Kasper in the 6-year gap), and after a year of both European tour, summer festivals in Europe and shows in Japan, Kasper is now a full time member of the band, once again.
In Kasper's own words: Hello Manti-fans & bass lovers! For the past year I’ve been playing as a stand-in bass player in Manticora. I have had so much fun and really enjoyed being back in the band and hanging out with the guys again, after a 5 year break. Therefore I’ve decided to stay in the band for good, to embark on new adventures with the Manti-dudes in the future to come!"
Lineup:
Kristian Larsen - guitars
Lars F. Larsen - vocals
Stefan Johansson - guitars
Kasper Gram - bass
Lawrence Dinamarca - drums (session)

Performing The Great Adventure flawlessly and in its entirety 47 times in 2019, Neal Morse (vocals, keyboards and guitars), Mike Portnoy (drums, vocals and audience cheerleading), Randy George (bass), Bill Hubauer (keyboards and vocals) and Eric Gillette (guitars and vocals) brought audiences to their feet night after exhilarating night: “The tour delivered every night. We never got tired of playing it, and it always paid off”, says George.
One of the countries was the Czech Republic, and it was there in Brno that the band chose to film The Great Adventour 2019 - Live In Brno, the definitive record of the tour, as George explains: “This was our first time playing in the Czech Republic and this venue had a different look and vibe: the audience also turned out to be very energetic. They loved it!”

OPETH's MIKAEL ÅKERFELDT Pays Tribute To SEAN REINERT And NEIL PEART
OPETH's Mikael Åkerfeldt has paid tribute to influential drummers Sean Reinert (CYNIC, DEATH) and Neil Peart (RUSH), both of whom passed away earlier this month.
Earlier today (Tuesday, January 28), Mikael took to the OPETH social media to write: "Like many before me, we too want to give our condolences to the family and friends of Sean Reinert. His passing came as a big surprise and shock to us. We toured together with CYNIC in the past, as some of you might know. I remember Sean as a great guy with a splendid sense of humour. And a monster of a drummer! Very sad to hear about his passing! The last few weeks has seen a lot of tragic losses in the music world. Of course I also want to mention Neil Peart. I didn't know him personally, and I never met him but his influence on rock music cannot be understated, which is why I, on behalf of the band, want to pay our respects and give our condolences to the people close to him."
Sean was found unresponsive at his California home on Friday, January 24. He was only 48 years old.
Reinert was a founding member of CYNIC, along with guitarist/vocalist Paul Masvidal, and he remained in the group until September 2015.
In 1991, Reinert and Masvidal joined the legendary Florida band DEATH to record the "Human" album. After touring with DEATH, they returned to CYNIC.
Reinert played his last shows with CYNIC in September 2015 in Japan.
Peart died on January 7 in Santa Monica, California after a three-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He was 67 years old. The band announced his passing on January 10, setting off shockwaves and an outpouring of grief from fans and musicians all over the world.
Peart joined RUSH in 1974. He was considered one of the best rock drummers of all time, alongside John Bonham of LED ZEPPELIN; Keith Moon of THE WHO; and Ginger Baker of CREAM. Peart was also RUSH's primary lyricist, drawing inspiration from everything from sci-fi to Ayn Rand.
'Like many before me, we too want to give our condolences to the family and friends of Sean Reinert. His passing came as...

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY Drummer REED MULLIN Dead At 53
CORROSION OF CONFORMITY drummer Reed Mullin has died. He was 53 years old.
His bandmates confirmed his passing in a social media post earlier tonight. They wrote: "Reed, It's with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a friend, a brother and pioneer. Love and condolences to the family, friends and fans who will miss you and thanks for the music"
Earlier today, several of Reed's friends, including fellow drummer Felix Griffin (D.R.I. ), Scott Carlson (REPULSION) and Jimi Hazel (24-7 SPYZ), made social media posts indicating that Mullin had died.
Mullin, who co-founded CORROSION OF CONFORMITY in 1982 as a hardcore punk act alongside bassist Mike Dean and guitarist Woody Weatherman, had missed a number of shows in the past four years due to a variety of health issues, including an alcohol-related seizure he suffered back in June 2016.
Last summer, Dean said that Mullin needed "to take care of himself and get his shit together" before rejoining the band. "And if that happens, the door's open for him," Mike told the "Talk Toomey" podcast. "And if it doesn't, well, that's how it is. People need to wanna help themselves. You can't just push them to get help — they've gotta wanna help themselves."
Mike also praised Mullin's replacement, John Green from Manchester, U.K., who had previously worked with CORROSION OF CONFORMITY as a roadie.
"Reed had some sort of incident where, basically, just a few hours before getting on a plane to play Bloodstock [festival] a few years ago, I heard that he wasn't gonna be able to make the trip," Dean explained. "And as I was calling the tour manager in the U.K. to say, 'Hey, we're not gonna be able to make it,' he said, 'You know, John could learn all those songs.' And I thought about the idea of just pulling the plug on this whole thing we worked hard to do, and I said, 'You know what? Let's try that.' And he stepped up with 24 hours notice — slightly less than 24 hours notice — learned a bunch stuff, studied up and just went out there in front of basically 60,000 people who were there to see JUDAS PRIEST, et cetera, et cetera, and just nailed it, with energy and all that. So, it was, like, 'Well, this seems to be the way to go.'"
When Mullin suffered his alcohol-related seizure four years ago, Dean said in a statement that the episode had been "preceded by prolonged, extreme and unhealthy levels of alcohol consumption, not taking care of himself and who knows what else." Dean revealed that the "tragic event" echoed "a nearly identical" incident in Pittsburgh a few years earlier, where "Reed had a seizure just before taking the stage when the three-piece version of the band were also opening for CLUTCH. Both instances were preceded by concerns about Reed's well being and appearance. That incident resulted in five canceled shows. So years of assurances go by and we come full circle back to the same avoidable tragedy."
Mike went on to say that he and his bandmates would "not enable Reed to continue killing himself on our watch."
In a December 2015 interview with SideStage Magazine, Mullin reflected on the passing of former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland, who had just died of an accidental overdose of alcohol and drugs. He said: "I think a lot of people thought that it would have happened a long time ago. I didn't really know Scott, but I was really good friends with Layne Staley [ALICE IN CHAINS], and I've had my own problems with alcohol, you know; I think a lot of us have. But, you know, you have housewives that get addicted to pain pills and stuff like that. So it's not hard to understand, but at the same time it's tragic, especially in Layne's case when you knew it was going to happen. I didn't know Scott that well at all — I had met him several times, but I didn't really know him. I knew Layne very well. Like I said, I didn't know Scott, but I share a lot of the difficulties that he had before he passed so I understand, and I still struggle with some of that stuff."
CORROSION OF CONFORMITY's latest album, 2018's "No Cross No Crown", marked the band's first studio output with vocalist/guitarist Pepper Keenan in over a decade.

OZZY OSBOURNE: 'This Last Year Has Been Hell For Me'
Ozzy Osbourne made his first public appearance since announcing his Parkinson's disease diagnosis at last night's Grammy Awards. Speaking to CBS's "Grammy Red Carpet Live" pre-show with his daughter Kelly by his side, the BLACK SABBATH singer admitted that the past year has been a difficult one since he was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disorder last February.
"This last year has been hell for me," he said. "I've had surgery on my neck. I've announced to the world that I've got Parkinson's. It's been one rock 'n' roll year for me.”
The 71-year-old rocker, who walked with a cane, added that he hopes to resume touring soon.
"If I'm well enough, I'll work towards it," he said. "I'm having physical therapy every day, five days a week. I'm trying, doing the best I can. Neck surgery's not easy."
Kelly said that she is proud of her father's progress.
"Seeing how far Dad's come this year and how far he's come in the last week alone has just been incredible," she said. "I think coming out and telling his truth has been a weight lifted off of his shoulders. And even like his physical therapist is saying how far you have moved forward in this last week is insane."
Last week, Ozzy's wife Sharon explained to "Good Morning America" that Ozzy has "PRKN 2, which is a form of Parkinson's. There's so many different types of Parkinson's. It's not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination, but it does affect certain nerves in your body. It's like you have a good day, a good day and then a really bad day."
Sharon said that Ozzy will head to Switzerland in April to see a professor who specializes in helping people with their immune systems, in order to distinguish between her husband's symptoms. Sharon remarked: "We're going to go wherever we can go to seek answers," to which Ozzy added: "We're lucky enough to be able to afford to do that."
Ozzy is scheduled to return to North American arenas for another leg of his "No More Tours 2" tour this spring, while his first new solo album in 10 years, "Ordinary Man", is due for release on February 21.

SEAN REINERT's Husband Comments On Drummer's Passing: 'I'm Still In A State Of Disbelief'
Sean Reinert's husband has issued a statement on the influential drummer's passing, saying that "the lives of Sean's close friends and family have just been shattered."
Thomas Snyder wrote: "I'm broken. As many of you now know, my husband Sean passed away last night. Some of you in the inner circle I was able to reach via phone last night and this morning to try to let you know what happened before it spread across social media. For those I couldn't reach to tell you myself I'm sorry.
"I'm still trying to put together the events of the last 24 hours. After coming home from work last night I found Sean unresponsive on the floor, I administered CPR with the assistance of the 911 operator and he was taken to a local hospital via ambulance. There is no cause of death and an autopsy will be performed.
"Sean and I just completed our yearly physicals about 3 weeks ago and we were both in good health. Sean did not have any sort of drug abuse issues and I'm still in a state of disbelief. I can't begin to comprehend how my life and the lives of Seans close friends and family have just been shattered.
"That's about all I'd like to share at this point.
"It feels strange to even have to make this post over such a private matter but I understand Sean was a public figure and beloved by many around the world.
"For myself, Seans family and close friends I ask that you please give us time to grieve. The fans he adored so much lost an influence and phenomenal drummer. Some of us lost our Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle and Best Friend.
"Thank You."
Reinert was a founding member of the pioneering progressive metal band CYNIC, along with guitarist/vocalist Paul Masvidal, and he remained in the group until September 2015.
In 1991, Reinert and Masvidal joined the legendary Florida band DEATH to record the "Human" album. After touring with DEATH, they returned to CYNIC.
Reinert played his last shows with CYNIC in September 2015 in Japan.
After his exit from CYNIC, Sean was involved with the Los Angeles progressive rock group PERFECT BEINGS.

QUEEN's BRIAN MAY Congratulates ROGER TAYLOR For Becoming An OBE In U.K. New Year's Honors List
QUEEN guitarist Brian May has taken to Instagram to congratulate his lifelong friend and bandmate Roger Taylor for being awarded an OBE — Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
The 2020 New Years Honours list, which was drawn up and approved during Theresa May's premiership, rewards a lineup of well-known figures from the worlds of art and sport.
May wrote: “Congratulations Rog OBE !!! What does OBE mean ? Well, for all you non-Brits, let me explain.
"The letters stand for Order of the British Empire - a traditional honour presented to people who have achieved worthy things in the eyes of ... well, the British Monarchy, under advice.
"It's the beginning of a whole spectrum of honours. Next one up is the MBE - Member of the British Empire - and above that is the CBE - Commander of the British Empire.
"The next level of the game is a KBE - a Knighthood - which entitles the recipient to be known as Sir."
The 72-year-old guitarist added: "I received a CBE some years ago. It doesn't change your life very much apart from giving you some letters to put after your name in correspondence !
"The award which really moves you to a different place in Society is when they make you a LORD - which entitles you (or requires you) to sit in the a House of Lords, participating in the passing of British laws and policies.
"So there ya go ! Who decides these things ?
"Well, it's all done quietly behind closed doors by a small committee - but most awards have been lobbied for, by friends and colleagues who feel the person deserves recognition!!!"
Taylor's honor comes at a time when QUEEN continues to ride high on the momentum of their box-office-busting, Oscar-winning "Bohemian Rhapsody" biopic, which has introduced their music to new audiences with record-breaking results. Apart from becoming the highest-grossing music biopic of all time, in the U.K., it is also No. 1 biggest-selling film of 2019 on home release.
QUEEN's original soundtrack to the film has remained high in the U.K. album chart ever since its November 2018 debut; in the U.S., it became the band's highest-charting album in 38 years, and QUEEN sold more albums in North America than any artist in the first half of 2019. The timeless and groundbreaking "Bohemian Rhapsody" video has reached a historic one billion views on YouTube, making it the most viewed music clip of the 20th Century. In addition, YouTube views of "Don't Stop Me Now" have just passed the 500 million mark.
This month, Apple Music named QUEEN as the most-streamed rock artist globally among Apple Music users in 2019.

OVERKILL Drummer JASON BITTNER On SEAN REINERT: 'He Became A NEIL PEART-Type Influence For The Metal World'
Former FLOTSAM AND JETSAM and current OVERKILL drummer Jason Bittner has paid tribute to Sean Reinert, saying that the ex-DEATH and CYNIC drummer became a 'Neil Peart'-type influence for the metal world."
Reinert was found unresponsive at his San Bernardino, California home on Friday night (January 24). According to TMZ, he was transported to a hospital, but after life-saving measures proved ineffective, he was pronounced dead upon arriving. No foul play is suspected at this time. However, an official cause of death is pending an autopsy, which hasn't been conducted yet.
Earlier today, Bittner took to his social media to write: " I'm trying to really find all the words to sum the last week or so up, just as we were starting to mend from Neil [Peart], this happens.
"I can't explain just how much Sean meant to all of us in the metal community, and the drumming community alone — this guy was definitely NOT 'just a metal drummer.' Read all the posts about him and you will know. Neil influenced all of us to be play more fills and be experimental, and Sean took it to the Nth degree with everyone he played with, and he became a 'Neil Peart' type influence for the metal world. Go back and look at my first Modern Drummer feature — two of my Top 10 drumming albums are his — DEATH 'Human', and CYNIC's 'Focus'. Absolute stellar performances, unplayable by most of us mere mortals. I'm still trying. But on top of all this Sean was an awesome, awesome guy — just a laugh riot to hang out with.
"There's a contingent of people over the last decade who have become the 'Sickdrummer Magazine family/clique/gang' at NAMM, — Anton Hefele, Ian Macdonald, Derek Roddy, Gus Rios, Forrest Robinson, Brian Zink, myself, Tim Yeung, Matt Thompson, and a rotating cast of characters depending on the year — but there was always ONE GUY we were hoping was 'coming to the show this year', and that was Sean Landon Reinert — he was just that respected and loved by us, and by the drumming world.
"I was lucky enough to become friends with him back in probably 2005/6, and we always stayed in contact, and saw each other when the tour or NAMM permitted, or if I was just in CA for other business, we always made it a point to hang if possible — the last time I saw him was when he came to see me play in FLOTSAM AND JETSAM at the Whiskey in LA. We had just drove in all night from AZ,no sleep, I was TMing too, and just exhausted by time I took the stage — the only thing that was keeping me going was the fact of 'dude, Sean is watching, you BETTER bring it!' I did to my best ability, and he told me so after the show...... 'dude you kicked ass' — I still think he was just being nice!!
"RIP Sean — I hope you're up there trading 7's with 'The Professor' right now — or at least drinking some of his Macallan!! We all love and miss you already!!!!"

RATT Is In The Studio
Long-running California rockers RATT appear to be working on their first new music since 2010's "Infestation" album.
Earlier today, RATT singer Stephen Pearcy tweeted out a couple of photos of him and bassist Juan Croucier in the studio, and he included the following caption: "In the @Juan_Croucier 'Cellar' studio yesterday (all I can see) and again today. Good week with band. Looks like we’ll be holed up there for awhile. @theRATTpack #studio #rattontour2020 #yearoftheratt"
Earlier this month, Pearcy told The Metal Voice that the band would go into the studio this year "to dabble in a few things. And we'll see what happens," he said. "We're always writing, so it'll be great to have some new music and do the tour. And things are really moving along just fine."
Asked if the plan is still for RATT to return to the "harder edge" of its first two or three albums with the new material, Stephen said: "Yes. Except you can't get by something like… I don't wanna do another 'Round [And Round]', but I should certainly want a catchy kind of a tune RATT is known for."
As for RATT's touring plans, Pearcy said: "2020, we're just gonna tour the planet. We're gonna play countries we've never played. It's 35 years later. And that's what we're doing. We have a bunch of festivals overseas. And we'll announce the U.S. package tour soon enough."
During the interview, Stephen also revealed that a new RATT best-of compilation will be coming out soon.
In January 2019, Pearcy underwent knee surgery. The operation came three months after two disastrous RATT shows that saw the now-63-year-old singer incapacitated to the point where he had trouble remembering the words to some of the band's biggest hits.
RATT's current lineup includes Pearcy and Croucier, along with drummer Pete Holmes (BLACK 'N BLUE) and guitarists Jordan Ziff and Chris Sanders (BRITNY FOX, KNIGHT FURY).

MEGADETH's DIRK VERBEUREN Pays Tribute To SEAN REINERT: 'The World Lost A True Legend And A Beautiful Soul'
Former SOILWORK and current MEGADETH drummer Dirk Verbeuren has paid tribute to Sean Reinert, saying that the ex-DEATH and CYNIC drummer "is the ultimate reference when it comes to creativity and swing in metal drumming."
Earlier today (Sunday, January 26), Verbeuren took to his social media to write: "The world lost a true legend and a beautiful soul. Sean Reinert's innovative, dynamic, soulful playing on [DEATH's] 'Human' and [CYNIC's] 'Focus' completely changed the game of metal drumming. As a teenager, I went out and bought my first splash cymbal after hearing Sean use his splashes so beautifully. No one played like him and to many, including myself, Sean is the ultimate reference when it comes to creativity and swing in metal drumming.
"As a person, Sean was jovial, kind-hearted, thoughtful and always ready to crack a joke or tell a hilarious story. Through his heartfelt laughs during the many game/movie nights my wife and I shared together with him and his husband Tom, or his big hugs when it was time to head home to take care of his cats, Sean's warm presence filled the room in the best possible way. It's so hard to fathom that he's gone... We spoke just a few weeks ago and he sounded as happy as ever.
"My heart goes out to Tom as well as Sean's family, friends, bandmates and fans. We will miss you so much, Sean... Rest in peace, brother, and thank you for everything."

NIGHTWISH's FLOOR JANSEN Kicks Off Solo Tour In Nijmegen (Video)
NIGHTWISH vocalist Floor Jansen kicked off her solo tour of the Netherlands on January 23 at Doornroosje in Nijmegen. During the trek, she is performing songs that she originally sang during her recent appearance on the Dutch reality TV show "Beste Zangers" ("Best Singers"), as well as select tracks from her career.
Fan-filmed video footage of the Nijmegen concert can be seen below.
Jansen made her live debut as the frontwoman of NIGHTWISH on October 1, 2012 at Showbox Sodo in Seattle, Washington following the abrupt departure of the band's lead singer of five years, Anette Olzon.
Jansen officially joined NIGHTWISH in 2013 and made her recording debut with the group on 2015's "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" album.
Last year, when Jansen announced her participation in "Beste Zangers", she said: "This show is all about music and singing and despite the name, has nothing to do with whom is best. Seven singers participate and we will sing each other's music, but in our own style.
"I think it is great they asked me, as a metalhead, to be a part of this. As you might know about me, I think it is a pity that mainstream media in The Netherlands has avoided 'our music' for years and years. The 'stigma' metal makes that many great songs will never be heard by a larger audience.
"As an ambassador of good music, I think that everyone should have access to more diverse music, and then it is up to the listeners to decide whether they like it or not. This choice is not offered nowadays. Us metalheads know well what 'they' miss out on and because of this TV show I get a chance to share good music. I will also get challenged to dive into the genres and styles of the other singers, as they will be when they sing my music.
"I have always enjoyed diversity and I get a great opportunity to show this."
NIGHTWISH's ninth studio album, "Human. :II: Nature.", will be released on April 10 via Nuclear Blast. The long-awaited follow-up to 2015's "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" will be a double album containing nine tracks on the main CD and one long track, divided into eight chapters on CD 2.
"Human. :II: Nature." was recorded from August to October 2019 at Röskö campsite, Petrax Studios and Troykington castle, as well as Finnvox Studios, by Tero Kinnunen, Mikko Karmila and Troy Donockley. The mixing was done by Mikko Karmila at Finnvox, with Tuomas Holopainen and Tero Kinnunen. Mastering was done by Mika Jussila at Finnvox.

MACABRE Release Music Video For "The Ted Bundy Song" Starring CATTLE DECAPITATION's Travis Ryan; Entire Back Catalog Now Available Digitally
Chicago-based legends of murder metal/death metal, Macabre, have come back recharged with Nuclear Blast and are making their entire discography available digitally. Check out the entire Macabre catalog here.
In celebration, the band offers fans a music video for "The Ted Bundy Song", off their 1993 album Sinister Slaughter. Directed by Jeffrey Sisson, the video features Travis Ryan of Cattle Decapitation as Ted Bundy. Watch the video below.
Corporate Death comments, "We are a band that has been around a very long time. Making the entire Macabre catalog available digitally is something new school for us, so to help promote that we decided to do something old school embracing new and make a music video from something deep in our catalog. Going back to 1993, here is 'The Ted Bundy Song' from our Sinister Slaughter album.“
As a bonus, the band launches their new "Bundy" shirt which features Travis Ryan. Buy your "Bundy" shirt on the band webstore, here.
Watch the madmen of metal's return home to Nuclear Blast:
Formed in 1985, Macabre blends elements of true crime, math rock, nursery rhymes, punk, thrash, folk melodies, death metal, jazz fusion, black metal and more into an energetic, catchy and unmistakable amalgam. Murder Metal, refers to Macabre's signature style. It's a genre of one. The all-too-true tales of man's inhumanity to man are delivered with knife-edge precision, interspersed with Corporate Death's patented (back when he was a toddler) screech.
Fast and heavy, with a focus on things that make happy shiny people cringe, the original members, Corporate Death (guitar and vocals), Nefarious (bass and vocals) and Dennis the Menace (drums) are still together. Macabre have brought mayhem to the world in the past decades, playing dozens countries over the years. Macabre's rabid fans, including members of bands ranging from Carcass to Slipknot, relish the band's tight and increasingly sophisticated music; they exult in their musical chops as much as in the band's sense of humor, their killer music, and its deadly subjects.

10 - Metal Magic Festival - Denmark
16 - Obscene Extreme Festival - Czech Republic
